Task 2
Applying my own Research Methods
Unit 3 Task 2Getting myself organised for research
• Ensure all of your work is organised into a folder
• Use colour coded binders to separate your work
• Highlight important texts or sections of your work
• If your work is online store it into a Blog, Prezi or
Slideshare if it is a presentation
• When storing it in a blog ensure each piece of work
is separate with an easily identifiable title
• Create yourself a checklist of all the tasks that need
to be completed
Secondary Research
Unsigned.com
I carried out some secondary research during the process of the music video. One of my tasks was to find the song that would be played throughout the
music video. I visited multiple sites, one site that I came across was unsigned.com. This was a website that showed a variety of independent music, there
was a huge selection of independent music available for me to use. I spent a while on the website looking at the different range of bands and independent
singers, I came across a song called 2k which was narrowed down into our final song choices. I emailed 2k asking if they would give me permission to use
there song and play it over the top of my music video. To use songs on unsigned.com all you need to do is contact the artist that has produced the music
as they are all independent and do not have contracts with anyone. This made it easy for me to get hold of any music that I wanted as I only needed to
send a short email, this prevented any copywriter issues from occurring. The bands on unsigned.com where at the lower end of the scale, this meant they
would be ideal for my low to no budget music video. unsigned.com was one of my most favoured websites that I looked at the find the client who would
allow me to use their music.
Youtube - Low to No budget music videos
I had a look a youtube for some low to no budget music video ideas, this gave me a better understanding of what type of videos I would be able to
create with a low budget.
One Night
One of the music videos I found was a song called one night by Leah Daniels, she wrote and sang the song herself it is an original video. I looked
at the music video that had been produced to go with the song, i thought the music video was good considering it was done on a very low budget.
The images above show some clips of the music video that was produced, as you can see there where three main locations. One was a house,
one was a field and another was outside in a garden. All of these areas are low - no budget locations. The field would have been reasonably
accessible with no cost, the house would probably have been free. She may have needed to get permission.
Secondary ResearchAfter researching independent videos on youtube and getting an idea of how I would want to film my music video, I now wanted to take a look at at
the music video production work undertaken by an ex-student of my own school, The Beacon. I wanted to take a closer look at this student’s work
as I already had certain insight into how he films and puts together his footage. The very first video that he produced was done in 2008, I can tell
from this video the quality was weak. The first couple of videos that Chris Storrar (Ex Beacon student) produced where mainly being done for
practice. The reason he has done practice videos first was so he can get a feel of what it is like to produce a music video it helped give him an idea
of what it would be like when he wanted to produce something more serious.
I had a look at another video that Chris produced, this video was done a little bit later on after he was a lot more prepared with some experience
behind him. The next video was called Dominique Saint ft Junior Brat - work it out this was available on a website called Vimeo, Vimeo is a website
where independent music artists are able to share there work. If you want to upload footage onto Vimeo you need an account but if you just want to
take a a look at some of the videos available then it is free with easy access. Instantly I can see that the quality and way in which the footage has
been shot has massively improved. There is a distinctive difference between the first video he produced compared to the ones he is producing now.
The quality and camera angles are better, as well as the way the shots have been cut together to create a story.
On the left hand side I have print screened three
different sections of the video that he produced
and showed on vimeo. Below are three print
screened images of the very first video he
produced. As you can see there is a clear
difference between the image/footage quality. It is
also clear that the shot types he used where very
basic, compared to the variety of shots that he has
now used. After looking at the two videos i had a
clear idea of whatI didn't want my video to look like
and what I wanted my video to look like.
The problem I may face will be how I am able to
produce a high quality video like the one Chris has
done, on no budget. The work it out video that he
produced was done with a small budget which is
why the quality is much better, I need to ensure my
video is of the same quality. However, I will have
no budget.
Secondary ResearchI now looked at another ex Beacon student (Christian Fenton) This ex Beacon student was more recent, the work he has been involved with and
produced is also more frequent. I looked at a youtube video on youtube called BYOB - by kit rice. Christian had huge involvement in the making of
this video as he was the director. This meant that he had to visualise what the video would look like, what camera angles should be used etc.
From looking at the video that was directed by Christian I could tell immediately that it was of high quality standard. I could see this from the
setting, people in the video and camera angles used.
The location that Christian used to make this video was indoors in a hall. This was essential because of the moves the people in the video are
performing. There was specific lighting setup around the hall to create certain effect. This means that he had a low-medium budget to make the
video and also had access to high quality equipment. I will aim to make my video as high standard as this one. However, with a no budget that is
going to be difficult to execute.
Below are some screen shots of the music video. As you can see the quality of the image is very good and the use of lighting has played a huge
part in making the video look that way.
Secondary ResearchCorner Pilots - Come On is another video that I looked at, this time everything was done by christian, the
editing, production, filming etc was all done solely by him. The standard of the video was just as good.
Lighting again played a big part in the way the video looked, the lighting set the mood for the video
throughout. The shots where not as varied, However, this did not effect the video because the shots that he
used where used and executed very well. I found the video effective.
The reason the two music videos where so different was because of the type of music he was creating them
for. The first music video was upbeat and the second was more mellow. He has managed to match the
music video with the music, he has done this by editing the video smoothly together.

Activity: Producing a simple
questionnaire
Activity: Newspapers and magazines
I took a close look at the NRS website, I
browsed through the readership circulation
figures looking at the 12 months in
2013. January - December. From looking at
the top 10 newspapers I have found that the
Sun has come up as the most popular
newspaper. The statistics show that the
majority of suns' audience are adults. After
finding out that the sun newspaper is at the
top I took a closer look at the type of
headlines and story's the sun shares with it
audience.
On the left is an image of the front page of the sun newspaper. From
what I can see there are a lot of headings and sub headings in big
bold capital letters. This shows it is trying to catch the audiences
attention, it also shows that the sun are targeting an average
audience. The headlines lure customers in, the story's being shown
can be relatable in some cases which makes an audience feel as
though they have to read the sun newspaper.
The Sun Newspaper 14th May
Activity: Newspapers and Magazines
Social Class
From looking at the NRS data I found that the
C2DE grade people read the sun newspaper
more than ABC1 people do. This shows that the
sun is aimed at a lower working class audience,
the sun aim to please skilled working class,
working class and unemployed individuals.
After looking at the social class grades for the
sun newspaper I then compared it to the daily
telegraph newspaper which is the second one I
looked at. It shows that more people who are
categorised in the ABC1 class read the daily
telegraph where as only a few groups of people
from the C2DE class read the daily telegraph.
This will help the daily telegraph newspaper to
have a good understanding of who their
audience is and what they can do to please their
audience.
On the right is a a screenshot of some headlines and
story's in the daily telegraph newspaper. Instantly
comparing both The Sun newspaper and this one I
can see that the two newspapers are targeting two
very different audiences. The font and sizing of the
letters that the Telgraph have used are smaller more
held back. This would suggest that their target
audience are slightly more intelligent, As the sun
uses pictures and large headings this may suggest
that their target audience don't care much for reading
a large amount of text on the page.
Activity: Newspapers and MagazinesAge
After looking at social class I now took a closer look at the different
age categories of people who read both the sun newspaper and the
daily telegraph. I found that the group of people between the ages of
15-34 was very small for reading the daily telegraph newspaper.
However the numbers where significantly higher when it came to the
35+ category. This shows that maybe people below the ages of 35
have other resources to access information, other than reading the
newspaper. It may also show that people below the age of 35 don't
want to read about serious issues occurring in the world.
Now I looked at the sun newspaper statistics. I found that the
individuals aged between 15-34 did frequently read the sun
newspaper and the statistics where a lot higher than they where for
the daily telegraph. However, the data still showed that more people
in the 35+ age category read the sun newspaper. From looking
closely at these two sets out data I came to the conclusion that
generally newspapers are targeted at an older audience than a young
audience.
Gender
I moved on to look at gender, whether more men or more women
read the newspaper. I looked at the sun and the daily telegraph to
compare to two. Firstly the sun showed that 3340 men read the sun
newspaper and only 2501 women read the sun newspaper. The gap
between the two newspaper is not that significant. However, it still
shows that more men than women read the newspaper. This may be
because women are more interested in other reading material like
magazines etc.
I took a look at the data for the daily telegraph, this showed that again
more men read this newspaper. This time the gap between the two
sets of data where very close together. This may be because the
audience targeted are a lot smaller.
Look at the products and services that are being advertised in
them. Do they reflect what the audience profile says?
The Sun
The two newspapers I have chosen to look at are the sun and the
daily telegraph, I did a google search on sun newspaper
advertisements. I found a page dedicated to sun newspaper
advertising which also gives any individual the opportunity to
advertise in the sun newspaper. This shows that the sun is very open
to any kind of advertisement being put in their newspaper.
As you can see there are 8 different categories to choose from which gives
individuals the opportunity to advertise in any of them for a fee. This suggest that
the sun are not picky on the types of ads shown, in my opinion it reflects the
audience profile accurately.
The Daily Telegraph
The advertisement space in the daily telegraph is much more limited compared
to the sun newspaper. The type of adverts you can put in the daily telegraph are
also restricted.
Below are all the different categories sun give for an individual to advertise something they want.
An audience can be categorised in many other ways than age, gender social class
etc. Individuals can be categorised through geodemographics and psychographics.
Geodemographics is when a business or company may describe a group of people
because of there location and where they live. Individuals will be put into
categories because of there postcode area. For example a business who wants to
sell a high priced media product may only target people in good geodemographic
areas. Psychographics is a slightly more personal way of categorising a group of
people. Psychographics is how individuals are looked at based on their opinions,
way of life and attitudes towards things.
Case Study: The Ramblers1. Why were lifestyle and location important considerations for the designers of the website ?
During the process of creating this website it was vital to target the right people, keeping geodemographics in consideration. Ensuring the right location was chosen
from the start means they can build a strong reliable audience. If the ramblers website target areas that have no interest or potential interest in the activity they are
offering this mean they are wasting valuable time and money on advertising. When the designing of the website was taking place it is important to make it clear that
the activity they offer helps lead a better healthy lifestyle. I can see from looking at the website that they have made this clear to individuals who may be browsing
through. The website is easy to navigate around and has many links that give people an opportunity to click on them and explore further into what ramblers are
about. ramblers express who they are and what they offer.
2. How do the images used relate to the target audience?
After browsing through the website I found that the ramblers walking group is aimed at 20-30, 30-40 and 40+. Although these where the age groups available it is
clear that the ramblers walking group is aimed at almost all ages varying from 18+. Their are a minimum amount of images that are displayed on the website. Most
images are action shots showing a preview of what the walking ramblers website is about, some of the clips and images shown give the audience some insight in to
the type of locations that are shown. The type of images chosen will help the audience feel like they can relate to the individuals in the picture.
The image above shows the audience that they are able to trust the people who are leading them on routes, it also shows that any age is welcome. This shows
they are professional.
3. Do some further research into who the get walking website is aimed at
After looking in more depth into the get walking website I found that it is aimed at an older group of people. There is a signup member page, this means that they
are aiming it at individuals who want to take it seriously and really get involved. Although this does not mean the website isn't open to all types and demographics of
people. There is a set fee displayed on the website for when you become a member, varying from £3 - £750, this shows they are targetting individuals who are
committed, middle class individuals.
Case Study: Call of duty
1. Why do you think the call of duty games have been so successful?
As call of duty have stated they have a very good understanding of who there target audience is. I feel that if you know who you are aiming your product at your chances of being
successful are much higher. Call of duty know exactly what type of demographic of people want to buy there product, this means when they advertise it can be much more specific
and direct to those people. This will save time in the long run as call of duty wont be wasting any advertising on people who will not be interested in there product. They are able to
put all of there time and resources into their correct target audience.
Call of duty games have generally all been very successful. A lot of reasons for this success are because they made the right decision when they where planning and finalising
decisions for the game. They went with 1 theme and stuck with it throughout all the different sections of the game, the reason for there success was because their target audience
really took to the chosen theme. The most important part was the planning processing of the game and generating up different ideas. Call of duty chose the theme which
pacifically targets men. This was a good decision made by the creators of the game as the majority of the target audience that play video games are male.
2. What other games are in this market?
Another game that I looked at which is in the same market and has similarities, is gears of war. Gears of war is also a gunman game which is full of action and contains violence.
3.What Makes call of duty one of the leading products in this market?
From comparing both gears of war and call of duty together I found that gears of war has a third person shooter setting, whereas call of duty has a first person shooting setting.
This means if you were to play call of duty in the first person shooter mode you would be able to see the tip of the characters gun (images displayed below). This is a great feature
that call of duty have chosen as it really makes the game player feel as though they are the character. It makes movement easier and the visibility is greater. Gears of war is set
as a third person shooter, this limits the character to what they can see in front of them as the character they are playing is in front of them. It also makes the character feel less
involved with the action happening on the screen. I believe what makes call of duty so successful is the different features it has available to its audience. All features are very
realistic which makes the individual playing feel connected with the game.
Project Pave
The webpage I found contains information on 6 different abuse types that they feel are
most common in any sort of relationship. The website explains
physical, emotional, economic, verbal, sexual and mental abuse. Each abuse section has
a detailed piece of text explaining what the abuse is and whether you know you are
affected by that sort of abuse. As you can see below there are 6 points that the viewer
of the website is able to click on, underneath is a short summery of what could be
considered as being pinned physical, sexual, emotional abuse etc. This section of the
webpage is extremely clear, this means anyone is able to get access to the webpage
and understand it clearly, that means no one is ruled out of receiving help.
There was another section labelled warning signs, When I navigated onto the page
there was 12 warning sign points that explained 12 different signs of someone who
might be facing some sort of abuse. As you can see below it is displayed in a similar
format to the previous page. The individual in the website is able to gain access to each
point by clicking on the number. I feel as though this section of the website is targeted
at people who may be concerned about a close friend or family member. It gives
detailed a detailed description on what should be looked for to catch the signs of abuse.
It provides good solid information that could be helpful to many individuals.
Research Log -
Different types of
abuse
Cornwall Council
This webpage was created by the cornwall council, the websites focus is abuse and how you can escape from it. It provided information on different abuse types similar to
the previous website, these where, neglect, sexual, physical emotional and so on. This website provided a lot more further help to abuse victims as it had links navigating to
pages titled, where can I go to trust someone and what happens next.
there was a linked labelled who can you trusts, when I clicked on this link I was navigated to a page with 3 main phone contact numbers on the page. All of the numbers
provided where safe numbers that victims of friends and family of victims would have 24 hour access to call. Beside each contact number is a small logo. I feel as though
the use of the logo includes a sense of security and trusts within the victims. This is extremely important to victims as they feel as though they may not be able to trusts
anyone.
Lancashire Council
I have found a webpage called Lancashire council, what I have noticed is that a lot of areas have
enforced the preventation of abuse. A lot of councils have there own website to send out a
message that abuse is not ok as well as it being there as a helpline to victims. The website
contains different abuse types as well as contact numbers. There are a range of different contact
numbers on the website that are available to individuals if they feel the need to phone.
The contents of the website provides contact numbers, helplines and different types of abuse.
From the research I have gathered and the information I collected I can see that the use of abuse
on people is becoming more and more known and spoken about. It is clear that there are many
people aware of abuse happening and something is being done about it. There is more and more
information provided on different websites to stop abuse from occurring
Research Log - Audience
Gov domestic violence
I found a webpage that contains information on young people being abused and males being abused. From what I can see through the text I have read it appears
that a new procedure will be put in place which consists of a panel of 5 individuals aged between 16-22. Each member of the panel will take part in preventing any
form of abuse taking place, as well as providing there point of view from their age range.
The government is aiming to set there focus on young people being abused, they feel as though if they can get younger audiences to come forward and admit they
are facing abuse then this will encourage a broader audience. I believe this is a good direction to head in as they may not be able to target everyone but they are
able to target a specific audience which will create awareness.
From what I can see the website is not necessarily a helpline website it focuses more on the laws that are currently in place against abuse as well as laws that are
being considered, it explains what they are doing to prevent abuse.
After carrying out my research on this webpage and gathering up information I can see that the governments main target audience and focus at the moment is
individuals age from 16-22, it is clear that the younger age range is their main priority to create awareness about domestic abuse. Even though this is the case I
found that other websites focus on the older generation who are being abused or who have previously been abused. This is a good focus area as they may be
able to give insight on how to fight abuse, seeing as they have previously experienced this.
Above is a small piece of text located on the government website that is explaining a recent law put in place
regarding domestic and sexual violence towards males. This information is showing that the government
are also putting support and help in place for male abuse victims. This is extremely useful if I was going to
be creating a domestic abuse production as it clearly shows that not only women are getting abused. This is
a good piece of information to take into account as some people may forget that anyone can be abused
which is why male abuse still needs to be spoken about.
Research Log - Locations
Sutton film office
The sutton film office is a website displaying 100’s of different locations that are available to film on with permission. There are albums of
different photos some titled, council estate, wastelands etc. There are enough locations to fit what you are filming, there are numbers of
different locations that would suit your production that you are making. For example I feel council estate would be a good location and
area to film a domestic abuse production. It will give a run down feel to the production and make it look glum. However, domestic abuse
takes place through every social class not just the low one. So I could find an extremely large house that is displayed on sutton film office
and use that in a domestic abuse production. Some locations may be easier to get access to than others. for example landfill sites should
be fairly easy access where as libraries would be much more complicated to get access to. In terms of times the location would be free
and the amount of noise can be produced without causing a disturbance.
As you can see there are different albums, it then displays the number of photos within the album. There are pictures of each location
which is extremely useful as you would have an idea of what the location would look like colour wise. Whether the colours would be good
for a domestic abuse production or not.
I took a close look at two specific locations which where empty council estates and wasteland/landfill. I feel as though these two locations fitted in well with a domestic
abuse category. As you can see it says empty council estates. This means straight away before even visiting the location and carrying out location breakdowns and risk
assessment forms you can see that the location will be easy access. From what I can see from the wasteland/landfill location there is going to be a lot of risks and health
and safety issues that may occur. This means I know I would have to pay extra attention when filling out my risk assessment forms at the location.
I would have to take into consideration a child being on set in a wasteland/landfill as the healthy and safety risks are so high. I would think carefully whether I would
want to include a child in the production.
As you can see this website is extremely useful if I where to need to find a location for a domestic abuse production. I clicked on empty council estate it then
provided me with over a 100 pictures of different parts of that location. This is useful as before I even arrive at my chosen location I will already have a good idea of
accessibility and the level of risk it is.
Surrey Life
I found a second website that I did not find as useful in terms of imagery and visually being able to look at a location. There where no images on this
website so I would not have an idea of what the location is going to look like at all. There was also only a small description under the location and
minimum directions. If I was to pick a location from this website it may be time wasting as I do not have a visual image to go by.
The website has a list of movies with a location then displayed next to it along with a small description. It explains what movie was filmed within the
surrey borough and what part of it was filmed. This is extremely useful in terms of shots and framing as I am able to compare the shots that movie
was able to carry out which provides me with information on shots I am able to use. It will give me an understanding of the restrictions they where
faced with and the difficulties so I am able to avoid those.
Overall from the information I have gathered I can see that the first website was the most useful. However, if I use both I would be able to find an
ideal location for a domestic abuse production.
Research Log - Market Research
Murdered by my boyfriend - BBC
A documentary had recently been released onto the BBC channel with a
domestic violence storyline. The summary of what happened was a couple who
got together when they were very young at the age of 17. They had a family
together and during the 4 years of them being together she was persistently and
constantly being abused by her partner, in private and in public.
This documentary has only just come out on the bbd and is already extremely
popular already being put in the most popular category on BBC iplayer. Once I
looked further into the programme and gathered information on how popular it
was I could see that people had a genuine interest in gaining knowledge on
abuse.
I typed this in on google to see if there were any articles on it, one article was
written by the guardian. They stated that the aim of doing the programme was to
make people aware of domestic abuse as well as wanting individuals to feel safe
enough to talk about there experience that they have gone through or are going
through. Below is a piece of text that I found in the guardian explaining there end
goal for making “Murdered By My Boyfriend”.
Murdered By My Boyfriend was a very hard hitting programme with an
extremely likeable character which was the abuse victim. I viewed the
programme myself and I feel as though they made the character very
likeable so people feel sympathetic and the need to reach out to abuse
victims and prevent anything like this happening further.
Murdered By My Boyfriend was displayed on the BBC website I clicked on
a link which directed me onto a page with information. This shows that
BBC are willing to play a big part in creating awareness of domestic
abuse. If I was creating a domestic abuse production I would have a good
understanding that help lines should be shown throughout, at the start or
at the end of the clip. This is an essential piece of information that should
be provided as it could be the first step for a lot of abuse victims.
The above text was included at the end of the programme, I feel this was
a very powerful fact to put especially at the very end of the programme. It
is a fact that may stay with viewers who have watched the programme.
Overall after carrying out market research into domestic abuse I
can see that people are defiantly taking more and more of an
interest each day. It is clear that people want to help and want
to be aware but maybe just don't know how. If I was making a
production based around the subject area of abuse it would be
key that I include information and help line numbers so people
know exactly who they can trust. I feel if more channels like
BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and E4 produce more programmes
based around abuse people will have a whole better
understanding of it and it will reach a much larger audience.
People are going to put there trust in big TV channels if they are
displaying content like that. I understand now that the main
aims when making a domestic abuse production are to make it
as effective and hard hitting as possible, raise awareness and
include help lines at the end or throughout.

Abuse in relationships - Would you stop yourself?
After viewing the video I now have an understanding of the storyline. A boy and girl are in a relationship, they are sitting on her bed together. He advances
towards her even though she has told him no several times. She gets a text and proceeds to reply to it, instantly he grabs her phone and throws it on the floor.
When she gets up to get her phone he grabs her hair until she says she will do it. Whilst he is carrying out this abuse on his girlfriend there is a replica of him
located behind a glass wall shouting stop it, don't do it. From what I can tell the idea of this abuse video is to make people think whether they would get to a point
of being abusive and realise its wrong enough for them to stop. I gathered this from the title as well as the contents of the video.
I feel as though the shot near the end with a replica of himself behind a window was extremely powerful, it is saying that everyone has it in them to stop
themselves from getting angry and becoming abusive they are just choosing to not stop. The message being sent through this video is clear, if you could actually
see yourself in the act of abusing someone would you stop?
The first few shots used which were a medium shot, medium close, and a close up where a basic use of shots. I believe this has been done deliberately to make
the viewers watching feel awkward just like the girl character is feeling. If you can get your viewers to feel what the people on TV are feeling you are more likely
to like the character and feel sympathy for them.
As you can see there is an awkward build up for a total of 20 seconds.
There is no music all the way through out, this means all of the focus is going to be on the characters and what there dialogue is. They are trying to show that it is
important to listen to what is being said as some people may not see this as abuse or pay attention. At the very end there is banging on the window of the replica
male character. The banging is very powerful and the argument between the couple fades out. The banging at the end is much more powerful because of the lack of
music throughout the production.
The lighting throughout is very dull and dark. Not at any point is the lighting bright, even when the male replica character comes on it is an even darker setting. This
has been done to show the seriousness of the situation that is happening. It is trying to make the audience watching feel as though it is a miserable situation to be in.
The colours that the characters are wearing are also very dull, this represents there is nothing happy about the relationship.
Violence is violence - Domestic abuse mankind
I found a video that was in the most popular category on youtube within a week of upload. The video was called violence is violence - domestic abuse mankind.
both a male and female couple. They are in public with strangers, all the people in the background are not part of the production. They abuse each other
switching roles each time and wait to see the reaction from people. It was a very powerful video as it may make people realise that domestic is not always one
way. There was a small fact at the end stating
This production was made using 3 hidden cameras in a public park full of people. The
lighting was natural bright lighting which did not play a huge part in creating an affect on the
video, except for making it a realistic day to day setting. The use of hidden cameras was a
very good way to go about filming as no one knew they were there so there response to the
arguments taking place where genuine. This showed what people really thought.
The themes and issue taking place was physical and emotional domestic violence. From
both individuals.
Research Log - Professional Products
Hollyoaks - this is abuse - extra clip
I researched professional abuse videos to get some insight into how the professional producers do it. An extremely popular one at the moment is the hollyoaks domestic
abuse storyline that is being made into abuse adverts. Hollyoaks the TV programme is aired on E4 which is a very well known respected TV channel. I found a video clip
that thisisabuse had some involvement in making, the abuse clip featured patrick and maxine the two main characters in the abuse storyline aired on hollyoaks.
From research I have done I can see that thisisabuse has had a lot of involvement in making various different abuse videos. Most of there abuse videos are featured
around domestic abuse, being physical and emotional as they are the most common forms of abuse. I looked at all the hollyoaks abuse clips which gave me a good idea
of what to include when making it. I realise that domestic abuse can be a very sensitive issue which is what I would have to be careful of if I was making an abuse
production.
I am going to be creating a questionnaire with both open and closed questions. I will base it around domestic abuse,
specifically physical domestic abuse. My questionnaire will contain around 10-15 questions, once I have created them I
will hand out 15 copy’s to various different age ranges. From all of the result’s I receive back I will compile them into
graphs and bar charts, this will cover closed questions. To cover open questions I am going to analyse each response I

though it is not to personal to begin with. Domestic abuse is a very sensitive topic area which is why I do not want my
audience to feel like they cannot answer the questionnaire at ease. The open questions of my questionnaire will be asked
towards the end. I have done this so my audience now feel comfortable to open up and respond with something more
personal. This will ensure I receive back meaningful responses.
Below I have created a questionnaire with both open and closed questions, I have based my questionnaire around
domestic abuse, physical domestic abuse specifically. My questionnaire contains 11 questions. I decided to hand out 15
copies of my questionnaire to various different age ranges as you can see the age ranges are listed in the first question.
From all of the results I received back I compiled all my information in bar charts and pie charts.
If I was to do my questionnaire again I would add more questions based around the topic of domestic abuse, However, I
had to be careful and respectful as domestic abuse is a sensitive issue.

Secondary Research
Above is a small screen print from a list of 10 programme
ratings. I chose to look closely at hollyoaks programme ratings
because of the strong domestic abuse storyline that is being
featured in the TV programme. Hollyoaks has been listed third
on the list. A programme rating is something that shows what
position a TV programme is in.
The piece of text on the left

group of women who are all
singers and have chosen to

related DVD/CD. All CD

communities for no fee. The
majority of CD distribution
goes to women shelters. A lot
of CD/DVD’s are sold, all
money that is made is
donated to people in need or
who have been affected by
some form of abuse.
From what I can see the distribution of CD’s and DVD’s is extremely high, this s

I had recently wrote about a
domestic abuse programme called
murdered by my boyfriend that
aired on the BBC around 2 weeks
ago. The programme was on a
main channel at a popular time so I
knew it would have received a lot
of views due to those
circumstances. I left it about a
week and then looked into how
talked about murdered by my
boyfriend was. There were so
many programme reviews so I
took a look at one on the voice
website that was written by
Elizabeth Pears. She expressed
how hard hitting she thought this
programme was and not it is
almost similar to a horror. This
helped me to understand that a lot
of people took this programme
very seriously and the person who
made it set out to create
awareness has defnatly achieved
that.
After carrying out my research into domestic
abuse adverts I found that Hollyoaks seem to
have the most recent uploads of domestic abuse
awareness. I looked on youtube to find a
thisisabuse video featuring hollyoaks
actors/actresses in it. I watched the video
through and took some clips from it that show
clear signs of abuse taking place. I wanted to
find out what peoples responses would be to the
video so I took a look at a few comments posted
underneath. One comment said “No one should
go through this at all” This comment clearly
shows people have a good understanding that
these kind of acts are not acceptable. The
majority of people’s attitudes to media
products where positive in wanting to stop this
from happening.
Responses to advertising campaigns
I researched and had a look around at some advertising campaigns on abuse. I found a website that displaye
Emotional abuse campaign
poster produced in Lebanon.
The shapes of the cuts on the
women’s faces are actually
showing the sound frequency of
words. It is trying to explain to
people that not all abuse that
happens is physical. However,
it still effects the victim just as
much.
Physical abuse video that was produced in England. It is a 1:09
long video filmed from the neighbours point of view. The
neighbour is listening in and can hear a couple next door arguing.
The neighbour carrys on listening during that time the argument
worsens and it progresses into violence. The aim of this violence
ad is inform people that they should always call 911/999 if they
feel a physical domestic abuse crime is taking place. This video
was very powerful as there was only one shot used and it focused
on solely on the sound. This video was one of the most viewed
domestic abuse campaigns.
“He gave me this when he proposed (right ad: “for my anniversary”).
He gave me this for nothing at all (next to the broken bones).
There’s no excuse for domestic violence. Talk to someone who cares.”
The text above explains the X-Ray picture. It is
saying that when they secured their marriage that is
when the abuse started to begin. It is trying to show
the audience that it is not their fault, they don't
always know their partner is abusive until it is to late.
From what I can see, I can tell that this advertising
campaign is very held back, this may be because of
the country the advertising campaign was made in. If
it was any more brutal the responses to it may not
have been great.
Broken
Bone
This domestic abuse
campaign poster was
produced in France. A lot of
their domestic abuse videos
are quite brutal, they do not
hold back on getting the
message out to the audience.
The setting the ad was shot
in makes it stand out as it is a
public setting.
From what I have researched it is clear that some abuse campaigns
and videos are more ruthless in the way they present their work. Other
countries are more held back in how they get the message across to
their audience.
Responses to news coverage
I researched into newspaper
articles that have covered
story’s of forms of abuse. I
found one that received a lot
of negative feedback in the
way in which it was handled.
The audience feel as though
police are not doing
everything they can to prevent
domestic violence from taking
place. Since all of these
incidents have taken place
the awareness of domestic
abuse has been increased.

For my audience research section I am going to need to find out a lot of detailed in depth information from my target
audience. I am going to need to know the demographics of my audience as well as the geodemographics. This will
enable me to narrow down who I will be targeting. To gather this information I undertook a series of primary research
processes like focus groups, observations and questionnaires. All of these different research methods allowed me to get
a good idea of who my target audience will be. Taking into account age, gender, sexual orientation, occupation etc.
From the questionnaires I handed out the majority of individuals who answered them where aged 18-25. The majority of
individuals who said they faced some sort of abuse in there lifetime where aged 26-35. This meant that it was clear my
age focus should be 18-35. I felt that this was a good age to focus around. Most of the people I handed my
questionnaires out to where females. The questionnaire did not really affect my decisions to target females, as I had a
strong understanding from research that they where the most affected group of people.
Education was not a factor I considered massively as the majority of individuals I am targeting where out of education and
into a job, I focused more on individuals occupation. This meant looking at what type of job positions people are in who
are being affected by forms of abuse.
Audience Research - Age, Gender, occupation, education
These two graphics
showed both
gender and age
results from my
questionnaire. The
reason I went with
18-35 was because
I combined the two
age groups with
the most
individuals
together.
The geodemographic audience I will target is not going to be very specific. I will target all different
postcode areas and locations. I am not narrowing it down because I believe abuse can take place
anywhere. If I was going to choose any sort of geodemographic area then it would be a low postcode
area. Those types of locations do not have a lot of money. When making this decision I also
considered socio-economic factors, socio economic is how much money an individual makes and
how that affects there attitude. I came to the decision that the less money people are making they are
likely to be frustrated or stressed which may result in them lashing out. It also raises the risk of
economic abuse. The majority of individuals who responded on my questionnaire where in working
class, only a few where of the low class.
Audience Research - Geodemographic, Socio-Economic
The graph results from my questionnaire
showing what social class individuals
believe they are in. As you can see the
majority of people who answered said
they where in either working or lower
class. I found that the majority of people
in working and lower class where the
ones who faced forms of abuse. This
helped me make a decision when
covering geodemographics.
Psychographics was an area of research I looked at in a focus group. It is an individuals attitude
(personality). This type of research is something very useful when selling a media product or creating
a production on something. It helps the person creating the production understand how that person
lives there lifestyle whether they work or whether they are unemployed, active not active. For me
psychographics was not a key focus and it was not something I researched a lot. However, if I was
going to target my video at any kind of group it would be unemployed individuals who do not have an
active lifestyle. My reason for choosing this group of people would be because they have nothing
better to do which means there attention is going to be turned to forms of abuse.
Psychographics
When carrying out
research to find out the
psychographics of
someone, you will look
at those 5 key aspects of
it. It all comes down to
understanding a persons
behaviour and
personality.
Ethnographic means what ethnicity individuals can be categorised into. It represents culture and
what someones culture may be. Ethnographic is something I looked into with great detail, I
researched different cultures and the different laws there are surrounding those cultures. I found that
the majority of countries treat domestic abuse the same as a UK country would do. However, there
were a few countries amongst the majority that do not take forms of abuse very seriously. I took into
account all the different cultures and countries and decided I would focus on the UK. I did not want
to widen that to other countries as I wasn't sure how to go about different cultures.

Market Research - Competitor Analyse
After carrying out market research on abuse campaigns and videos I do not necessarily see them as competition in some
aspects. I see these videos as a process of learning. Most of the clips I have looked at are all trying to reach the end goal which
is to create awareness for forms of abuse.
Even though each video has the same end goal in terms of production it is different. In terms of production I am going to be in
competition with all abuse videos and campaigns on the market.
I have carried out competitor analyse through research on abuse campaigns and adverts on youtube and various different
search engines. This has allowed me to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of the video, which means I can avoid the
weaknesses they have and ensure I do not include them on my video. Some of the weaknesses I found where abuse campaigns
where not sensitive enough around the topic area of abuse. This has resulted in them videos being given a warning or the videos
being removed completely.
A small clip from an advert that had
been produced for the women’s aid
charity had been removed shortly
after it was aired. Clear cast, the ad
approval body, The individuals who
had involvement with the women’s
aid charity stated that the removal of
the video was"pathetic", arguing
that, in banning the advert, it is
shielding the public from the reality
of domestic violence.
Above is a small clip from a abuse video removed. This is what I need to be aware of if I want my content to be aired. It gives
me an idea of what would happen if I where to make my domestic abuse video to explicit. Even though I agree with what was
said, if all abuse video’s are being removed I will not be able to get my message out there.

Activity - Product Placement
Nokia and Hollyoaks made a deal that all hollyoaks
talent and crew would use the Nokia product
during filming. This means hollyoaks will feature

Hollyoaks - BARB - viewing figures
BARB viewing figures are extremely useful to advertisers, as well as
companies that want to find out what programme to sponsor.
Advertisers would have gone to barb figures to see if a certain
programme is receiving a lot of views or not. In some cases individuals
will also be able to see what type of people are watching a
programme. Whether it mainly men or mainly women, younger or older
people. This is useful so you can tell which programme your product
would suit the most.
Hollyoaks is listed 17th on the most viewed list. This means
advertisers who may want to sponsor hollyoaks can see this data
and make a decision based on this information.

As well as Georgina Campbell starring in murdered by my boyfriend she also had previous roles in

From the information I have gathered together from different sections on the IMDB, I can see that
both talent members have had a reasonable amount of experience each. This role was not there

serious topic that was being presented. It was essential that both talent where able to manage the
role equally.
Self-promotion is, after all, what the
NSPCC is all about. Last year, just £36m
of its annual £82m budget was spent on
direct services to children; much of the
rest went on publicity and campaigning.
I took a look at the NSPCC website. I also looked at articles relating back
to the NSPCC and looking closely at campaigns, adverts and fundraising
events that the NSPCC carried out. I found an article written by the
guardian that gave a rough outline of what the NSPCC is spending.
The majority of
NSPCC,s intake of
money goes on
advertisement and
campaigns to raise
awareness and
prevent child abuse.
The NSPCC's advertising budget last year was £1.58 million.
Our campaigning action is not just "publicity". The work covers
generating public awareness and education about child abuse;
policy and legislative work; information to professionals; and
providing advice, including free materials. We know that
people's attitudes to children are clearly influenced by our
campaigns.
NSPCC - Finance
I found another article that stated
how much had been spent in 1
year on advertising and
campaigns through the NSPCC.
They explain that the money for
advertisement does not just go
on production and videos, it also
goes on fundraising events and
campaigning.
Placement - Webcast
A webcast is a form of distributing media over the internet and making
media available to other individuals to view. It can be viewed either live or
on demand. The media that is distributed is a video with audio. Webcast is
unique in that it cannot be distributed via the TV it can only be shown
through the internet, a webcast has the potential to be accessed via the
internet, this will result in it being available in almost all parts of the world. A
webcast is useful for current news, informing the public of current events
that are taking place. Webcast is used widely in the business world, it is
extremely useful when having conference calls or presenting a presentation
to colleagues at work.
Placement - podcast
A podcast is another form of media which allows you to distribute
portable audio content via the internet. What separates a podcast
from a webcast is the use of video. With a podcast there is not
necessarily any use of video it is purely audio that is available. A
podcast can be distributed on a website, on blogger etc. This will
give viewers the chance to subscribe if they want to. If I was to do
a podcast for my domestic abuse video I would most likely upload
it onto my blog page to make it easy access to my audience. As I
am trying to create awareness by producing a forms of abuse
production podcast would be good as it is a quick process with
easy access. A podcast is unique because you are able to upload
it through a podcast feed which then allows individuals to
subscribe instantly. The majority of podcasts are available at no
fee for you to be able to subscribe.
Placement - Broadcast
A broadcast is relatively similar to a webcast. However, a
broadcast is distributed and aired through the TV using both video
and audio content. A broadcast is the most known media form out
of all three and is also probably the most used. For my domestic
abuse production I am going to choose to use a broadcast and a
webcast to distribute my material to viewers. I have chosen to use
these two because I am able to use video content easily as well
as audio content combined. The use of webcast to get my
message across to viewers is going to be extremely useful as
thousands of individuals will be able to access it not only from the
UK, that is something I would not be able to achieve solely using
broadcast.
Content - Locations
I used three main locations to shoot my domestic abuse
production. One of the locations which featured half way
through was the hallway. This was the first location used
when the audio track began to play over the footage. This
location had quite a high difficulty level as it was so
narrow. I struggled to experiment with shot types as I had
a limited amount of space, This prevented me from doing
a lot of side shots. I resorted to do a lot of shots from the
front and behind the talent. The location was reasonably
difficult but I managed to improvise with the space I had.
One positive of this location was that there where no
sound issues as I was inside. The ceilings where not tall,
this meant any sound content that would have been
included did not echo. I did not have to worry about the
weather as it was in a sheltered area. It was also not a
problem if it rained because I was using an audio track
over the top which would have blurred out the sound of
weather. In terms of permission for the location as it was
my parents house all I had to do was ask and get them to
sign a release form. This was not hard as I had access to
my parents most of the time and they did not mind me
filming in the house.
My next main location that was in the majority of my production was the kitchen. The kitchen was a very good
location choice which is why I made the decision to film the majority of my footage in the kitchen. There was large
amounts of space that I could work with. Lighting could be controlled as there where sensor lights and blinds.
This meant I could easily manage lighting, which was extremely useful as I wanted to work in a dark area to go
with the theme domestic abuse. Again the location was my parents house so all I needed to do was get
permission and a signed release form.As there was so much space I was able to be more creative with the shot
types I used. Although I was still limited to a certain extent because it was still in a household. Again it was inside
which meant I did not have to worry about weather issues. I took into consideration that I had a child on set. I
chose not to bring the child into the kitchen as there where to many natural health and safety risks, it would have
also required more supervision which meant more crew and costs and time.
Location - Hallway
Location - Holiday Inn Gym
This was one of the main
locations I used at the very
beginning of the video. This
was the location used to
introduce the lead male
character. I would say I had the
most problems filming in this
location it also had the highest
difficulty. I found it extremely
hard to film all of the footage I
needed due to all the mirrors
located around the gym as
walls. This made it difficult
when I tried to angle all of my
shots as it was hard for me not
to capture a reflection of my
self. It prevented me from doing
a lot of medium and long shots
as I could see myself in a
reflection.

Before I started my production I went through a planning process mind-mapping all my individual ide
Viability
Costs - Am I going to have the funds available to me for filming and how
much funding will I need? When filming my production I will need a minor
amount of funding as I have school equipment available to me at the time of
filming. I will also get my actors and actresses for free as they will volunteer.
Some of the minor funds will be spent on props for characters and some
scenes etc. Although the cost is not a big problem for me when filming my
production it is still important and i will need to take funding into account.
For me costs where not a problem and it was all viable to do.
Personnel - Am I going to have enough personnel to choose from. Also will
I have the right characters for my team. As I am going to need two main
adult characters in my production I may have some struggle finding the
right people as all of the students are 19 and under. However, one of my
characters will be a child under the age of 10 which should be easy to find.
Personnel did not end up being a problem I managed to find enough crew
and talent to take part.
Resources/facilities - Am I going to have the equipment and resources
available to me for the duration of my production? Resources is not a
huge issue for me as I have access to school cameras, tripods and
equipment from 8am-4pm. I will also get an opportunity to have a camera
on loan to me over the weekend. This will give me plenty of time to film
my production.

Brand/Product Preference
Brand and product preference is what a consumer
chooses when they are buying a certain product. Brand
preference is when a customer will choose a certain
brand simply because it has a certain logo and has been
branded high quality. It will show a customers loyalty to
that certain product. In my case I did not feel as though
product preference related because my video is not
being sold. I have created my video simply to create
awareness to consumers on the market. I am not trying
to compete with selling my video. I want people to
increase there knowledge on abuse.

Secondary Research Unsigned.com I carriedout some secondary research during the process of the music video. One of my tasks was to find the song that would be played throughout the music video. I visited multiple sites, one site that I came across was unsigned.com. This was a website that showed a variety of independent music, there was a huge selection of independent music available for me to use. I spent a while on the website looking at the different range of bands and independent singers, I came across a song called 2k which was narrowed down into our final song choices. I emailed 2k asking if they would give me permission to use there song and play it over the top of my music video. To use songs on unsigned.com all you need to do is contact the artist that has produced the music as they are all independent and do not have contracts with anyone. This made it easy for me to get hold of any music that I wanted as I only needed to send a short email, this prevented any copywriter issues from occurring. The bands on unsigned.com where at the lower end of the scale, this meant they would be ideal for my low to no budget music video. unsigned.com was one of my most favoured websites that I looked at the find the client who would allow me to use their music. Youtube - Low to No budget music videos I had a look a youtube for some low to no budget music video ideas, this gave me a better understanding of what type of videos I would be able to create with a low budget. One Night One of the music videos I found was a song called one night by Leah Daniels, she wrote and sang the song herself it is an original video. I looked at the music video that had been produced to go with the song, i thought the music video was good considering it was done on a very low budget. The images above show some clips of the music video that was produced, as you can see there where three main locations. One was a house, one was a field and another was outside in a garden. All of these areas are low - no budget locations. The field would have been reasonably accessible with no cost, the house would probably have been free. She may have needed to get permission.

Secondary ResearchAfter researchingindependent videos on youtube and getting an idea of how I would want to film my music video, I now wanted to take a look at at the music video production work undertaken by an ex-student of my own school, The Beacon. I wanted to take a closer look at this student’s work as I already had certain insight into how he films and puts together his footage. The very first video that he produced was done in 2008, I can tell from this video the quality was weak. The first couple of videos that Chris Storrar (Ex Beacon student) produced where mainly being done for practice. The reason he has done practice videos first was so he can get a feel of what it is like to produce a music video it helped give him an idea of what it would be like when he wanted to produce something more serious. I had a look at another video that Chris produced, this video was done a little bit later on after he was a lot more prepared with some experience behind him. The next video was called Dominique Saint ft Junior Brat - work it out this was available on a website called Vimeo, Vimeo is a website where independent music artists are able to share there work. If you want to upload footage onto Vimeo you need an account but if you just want to take a a look at some of the videos available then it is free with easy access. Instantly I can see that the quality and way in which the footage has been shot has massively improved. There is a distinctive difference between the first video he produced compared to the ones he is producing now. The quality and camera angles are better, as well as the way the shots have been cut together to create a story. On the left hand side I have print screened three different sections of the video that he produced and showed on vimeo. Below are three print screened images of the very first video he produced. As you can see there is a clear difference between the image/footage quality. It is also clear that the shot types he used where very basic, compared to the variety of shots that he has now used. After looking at the two videos i had a clear idea of whatI didn't want my video to look like and what I wanted my video to look like. The problem I may face will be how I am able to produce a high quality video like the one Chris has done, on no budget. The work it out video that he produced was done with a small budget which is why the quality is much better, I need to ensure my video is of the same quality. However, I will have no budget.
  • 5.
Secondary ResearchI nowlooked at another ex Beacon student (Christian Fenton) This ex Beacon student was more recent, the work he has been involved with and produced is also more frequent. I looked at a youtube video on youtube called BYOB - by kit rice. Christian had huge involvement in the making of this video as he was the director. This meant that he had to visualise what the video would look like, what camera angles should be used etc. From looking at the video that was directed by Christian I could tell immediately that it was of high quality standard. I could see this from the setting, people in the video and camera angles used. The location that Christian used to make this video was indoors in a hall. This was essential because of the moves the people in the video are performing. There was specific lighting setup around the hall to create certain effect. This means that he had a low-medium budget to make the video and also had access to high quality equipment. I will aim to make my video as high standard as this one. However, with a no budget that is going to be difficult to execute. Below are some screen shots of the music video. As you can see the quality of the image is very good and the use of lighting has played a huge part in making the video look that way.
  • 6.
Secondary ResearchCorner Pilots- Come On is another video that I looked at, this time everything was done by christian, the editing, production, filming etc was all done solely by him. The standard of the video was just as good. Lighting again played a big part in the way the video looked, the lighting set the mood for the video throughout. The shots where not as varied, However, this did not effect the video because the shots that he used where used and executed very well. I found the video effective. The reason the two music videos where so different was because of the type of music he was creating them for. The first music video was upbeat and the second was more mellow. He has managed to match the music video with the music, he has done this by editing the video smoothly together.

    Activity: Producing asimple questionnaire

Activity: Newspapers andmagazines I took a close look at the NRS website, I browsed through the readership circulation figures looking at the 12 months in 2013. January - December. From looking at the top 10 newspapers I have found that the Sun has come up as the most popular newspaper. The statistics show that the majority of suns' audience are adults. After finding out that the sun newspaper is at the top I took a closer look at the type of headlines and story's the sun shares with it audience. On the left is an image of the front page of the sun newspaper. From what I can see there are a lot of headings and sub headings in big bold capital letters. This shows it is trying to catch the audiences attention, it also shows that the sun are targeting an average audience. The headlines lure customers in, the story's being shown can be relatable in some cases which makes an audience feel as though they have to read the sun newspaper. The Sun Newspaper 14th May

Activity: Newspapers andMagazines Social Class From looking at the NRS data I found that the C2DE grade people read the sun newspaper more than ABC1 people do. This shows that the sun is aimed at a lower working class audience, the sun aim to please skilled working class, working class and unemployed individuals. After looking at the social class grades for the sun newspaper I then compared it to the daily telegraph newspaper which is the second one I looked at. It shows that more people who are categorised in the ABC1 class read the daily telegraph where as only a few groups of people from the C2DE class read the daily telegraph. This will help the daily telegraph newspaper to have a good understanding of who their audience is and what they can do to please their audience. On the right is a a screenshot of some headlines and story's in the daily telegraph newspaper. Instantly comparing both The Sun newspaper and this one I can see that the two newspapers are targeting two very different audiences. The font and sizing of the letters that the Telgraph have used are smaller more held back. This would suggest that their target audience are slightly more intelligent, As the sun uses pictures and large headings this may suggest that their target audience don't care much for reading a large amount of text on the page.
  • 11.
Activity: Newspapers andMagazinesAge After looking at social class I now took a closer look at the different age categories of people who read both the sun newspaper and the daily telegraph. I found that the group of people between the ages of 15-34 was very small for reading the daily telegraph newspaper. However the numbers where significantly higher when it came to the 35+ category. This shows that maybe people below the ages of 35 have other resources to access information, other than reading the newspaper. It may also show that people below the age of 35 don't want to read about serious issues occurring in the world. Now I looked at the sun newspaper statistics. I found that the individuals aged between 15-34 did frequently read the sun newspaper and the statistics where a lot higher than they where for the daily telegraph. However, the data still showed that more people in the 35+ age category read the sun newspaper. From looking closely at these two sets out data I came to the conclusion that generally newspapers are targeted at an older audience than a young audience. Gender I moved on to look at gender, whether more men or more women read the newspaper. I looked at the sun and the daily telegraph to compare to two. Firstly the sun showed that 3340 men read the sun newspaper and only 2501 women read the sun newspaper. The gap between the two newspaper is not that significant. However, it still shows that more men than women read the newspaper. This may be because women are more interested in other reading material like magazines etc. I took a look at the data for the daily telegraph, this showed that again more men read this newspaper. This time the gap between the two sets of data where very close together. This may be because the audience targeted are a lot smaller. Look at the products and services that are being advertised in them. Do they reflect what the audience profile says? The Sun The two newspapers I have chosen to look at are the sun and the daily telegraph, I did a google search on sun newspaper advertisements. I found a page dedicated to sun newspaper advertising which also gives any individual the opportunity to advertise in the sun newspaper. This shows that the sun is very open to any kind of advertisement being put in their newspaper. As you can see there are 8 different categories to choose from which gives individuals the opportunity to advertise in any of them for a fee. This suggest that the sun are not picky on the types of ads shown, in my opinion it reflects the audience profile accurately. The Daily Telegraph The advertisement space in the daily telegraph is much more limited compared to the sun newspaper. The type of adverts you can put in the daily telegraph are also restricted. Below are all the different categories sun give for an individual to advertise something they want. An audience can be categorised in many other ways than age, gender social class etc. Individuals can be categorised through geodemographics and psychographics. Geodemographics is when a business or company may describe a group of people because of there location and where they live. Individuals will be put into categories because of there postcode area. For example a business who wants to sell a high priced media product may only target people in good geodemographic areas. Psychographics is a slightly more personal way of categorising a group of people. Psychographics is how individuals are looked at based on their opinions, way of life and attitudes towards things.

Case Study: TheRamblers1. Why were lifestyle and location important considerations for the designers of the website ? During the process of creating this website it was vital to target the right people, keeping geodemographics in consideration. Ensuring the right location was chosen from the start means they can build a strong reliable audience. If the ramblers website target areas that have no interest or potential interest in the activity they are offering this mean they are wasting valuable time and money on advertising. When the designing of the website was taking place it is important to make it clear that the activity they offer helps lead a better healthy lifestyle. I can see from looking at the website that they have made this clear to individuals who may be browsing through. The website is easy to navigate around and has many links that give people an opportunity to click on them and explore further into what ramblers are about. ramblers express who they are and what they offer. 2. How do the images used relate to the target audience? After browsing through the website I found that the ramblers walking group is aimed at 20-30, 30-40 and 40+. Although these where the age groups available it is clear that the ramblers walking group is aimed at almost all ages varying from 18+. Their are a minimum amount of images that are displayed on the website. Most images are action shots showing a preview of what the walking ramblers website is about, some of the clips and images shown give the audience some insight in to the type of locations that are shown. The type of images chosen will help the audience feel like they can relate to the individuals in the picture. The image above shows the audience that they are able to trust the people who are leading them on routes, it also shows that any age is welcome. This shows they are professional. 3. Do some further research into who the get walking website is aimed at After looking in more depth into the get walking website I found that it is aimed at an older group of people. There is a signup member page, this means that they are aiming it at individuals who want to take it seriously and really get involved. Although this does not mean the website isn't open to all types and demographics of people. There is a set fee displayed on the website for when you become a member, varying from £3 - £750, this shows they are targetting individuals who are committed, middle class individuals.

Case Study: Callof duty 1. Why do you think the call of duty games have been so successful? As call of duty have stated they have a very good understanding of who there target audience is. I feel that if you know who you are aiming your product at your chances of being successful are much higher. Call of duty know exactly what type of demographic of people want to buy there product, this means when they advertise it can be much more specific and direct to those people. This will save time in the long run as call of duty wont be wasting any advertising on people who will not be interested in there product. They are able to put all of there time and resources into their correct target audience. Call of duty games have generally all been very successful. A lot of reasons for this success are because they made the right decision when they where planning and finalising decisions for the game. They went with 1 theme and stuck with it throughout all the different sections of the game, the reason for there success was because their target audience really took to the chosen theme. The most important part was the planning processing of the game and generating up different ideas. Call of duty chose the theme which pacifically targets men. This is a great feature that call of duty have chosen as it really makes the game player feel as though they are the character. It makes movement easier and the visibility is greater. Gears of war is set as a third person shooter, this limits the character to what they can see in front of them as the character they are playing is in front of them. It also makes the character feel less involved with the action happening on the screen. I believe what makes call of duty so successful is the different features it has available to its audience. All features are very realistic which makes the individual playing feel connected with the game.

Project Pave The webpageI found contains information on 6 different abuse types that they feel are most common in any sort of relationship. The website explains physical, emotional, economic, verbal, sexual and mental abuse. Each abuse section has a detailed piece of text explaining what the abuse is and whether you know you are affected by that sort of abuse. As you can see below there are 6 points that the viewer of the website is able to click on, underneath is a short summery of what could be considered as being pinned physical, sexual, emotional abuse etc. This section of the webpage is extremely clear, this means anyone is able to get access to the webpage and understand it clearly, that means no one is ruled out of receiving help. There was another section labelled warning signs, When I navigated onto the page there was 12 warning sign points that explained 12 different signs of someone who might be facing some sort of abuse. As you can see below it is displayed in a similar format to the previous page. The individual in the website is able to gain access to each point by clicking on the number. I feel as though this section of the website is targeted at people who may be concerned about a close friend or family member. It gives detailed a detailed description on what should be looked for to catch the signs of abuse. It provides good solid information that could be helpful to many individuals. Research Log - Different types of abuse

Cornwall Council This webpagewas created by the cornwall council, the websites focus is abuse and how you can escape from it. It provided information on different abuse types similar to the previous website, these where, neglect, sexual, physical emotional and so on. This website provided a lot more further help to abuse victims as it had links navigating to pages titled, where can I go to trust someone and what happens next. there was a linked labelled who can you trusts, when I clicked on this link I was navigated to a page with 3 main phone contact numbers on the page. All of the numbers provided where safe numbers that victims of friends and family of victims would have 24 hour access to call. Beside each contact number is a small logo. I feel as though the use of the logo includes a sense of security and trusts within the victims. This is extremely important to victims as they feel as though they may not be able to trusts anyone. Lancashire Council I have found a webpage called Lancashire council, what I have noticed is that a lot of areas have enforced the preventation of abuse. A lot of councils have there own website to send out a message that abuse is not ok as well as it being there as a helpline to victims. The website contains different abuse types as well as contact numbers. There are a range of different contact numbers on the website that are available to individuals if they feel the need to phone. The contents of the website provides contact numbers, helplines and different types of abuse. From the research I have gathered and the information I collected I can see that the use of abuse on people is becoming more and more known and spoken about. It is clear that there are many people aware of abuse happening and something is being done about it. There is more and more information provided on different websites to stop abuse from occurring

Research Log -Audience Gov domestic violence I found a webpage that contains information on young people being abused and males being abused. From what I can see through the text I have read it appears that a new procedure will be put in place which consists of a panel of 5 individuals aged between 16-22. Each member of the panel will take part in preventing any form of abuse taking place, as well as providing there point of view from their age range. The government is aiming to set there focus on young people being abused, they feel as though if they can get younger audiences to come forward and admit they are facing abuse then this will encourage a broader audience. I believe this is a good direction to head in as they may not be able to target everyone but they are able to target a specific audience which will create awareness. From what I can see the website is not necessarily a helpline website it focuses more on the laws that are currently in place against abuse as well as laws that are being considered, it explains what they are doing to prevent abuse. After carrying out my research on this webpage and gathering up information I can see that the governments main target audience and focus at the moment is individuals age from 16-22, it is clear that the younger age range is their main priority to create awareness about domestic abuse. Even though this is the case I found that other websites focus on the older generation who are being abused or who have previously been abused. This is a good focus area as they may be able to give insight on how to fight abuse, seeing as they have previously experienced this.

Above is asmall piece of text located on the government website that is explaining a recent law put in place regarding domestic and sexual violence towards males. This information is showing that the government are also putting support and help in place for male abuse victims. This is extremely useful if I was going to be creating a domestic abuse production as it clearly shows that not only women are getting abused. This is a good piece of information to take into account as some people may forget that anyone can be abused which is why male abuse still needs to be spoken about.

Research Log -Locations Sutton film office The sutton film office is a website displaying 100’s of different locations that are available to film on with permission. There are albums of different photos some titled, council estate, wastelands etc. There are enough locations to fit what you are filming, there are numbers of different locations that would suit your production that you are making. For example I feel council estate would be a good location and area to film a domestic abuse production. It will give a run down feel to the production and make it look glum. However, domestic abuse takes place through every social class not just the low one. So I could find an extremely large house that is displayed on sutton film office and use that in a domestic abuse production. Some locations may be easier to get access to than others. for example landfill sites should be fairly easy access where as libraries would be much more complicated to get access to. In terms of times the location would be free and the amount of noise can be produced without causing a disturbance. As you can see there are different albums, it then displays the number of photos within the album. There are pictures of each location which is extremely useful as you would have an idea of what the location would look like colour wise. Whether the colours would be good for a domestic abuse production or not.
  • 19.
I took aclose look at two specific locations which where empty council estates and wasteland/landfill. I feel as though these two locations fitted in well with a domestic abuse category. As you can see it says empty council estates. This means straight away before even visiting the location and carrying out location breakdowns and risk assessment forms you can see that the location will be easy access. From what I can see from the wasteland/landfill location there is going to be a lot of risks and health and safety issues that may occur. This means I know I would have to pay extra attention when filling out my risk assessment forms at the location.
  • 20.
I would haveto take into consideration a child being on set in a wasteland/landfill as the healthy and safety risks are so high. I would think carefully whether I would want to include a child in the production. As you can see this website is extremely useful if I where to need to find a location for a domestic abuse production. I clicked on empty council estate it then provided me with over a 100 pictures of different parts of that location. This is useful as before I even arrive at my chosen location I will already have a good idea of accessibility and the level of risk it is. Surrey Life I found a second website that I did not find as useful in terms of imagery and visually being able to look at a location. There where no images on this website so I would not have an idea of what the location is going to look like at all. There was also only a small description under the location and minimum directions. If I was to pick a location from this website it may be time wasting as I do not have a visual image to go by. The website has a list of movies with a location then displayed next to it along with a small description. It explains what movie was filmed within the surrey borough and what part of it was filmed. This is extremely useful in terms of shots and framing as I am able to compare the shots that movie was able to carry out which provides me with information on shots I am able to use. It will give me an understanding of the restrictions they where faced with and the difficulties so I am able to avoid those. Overall from the information I have gathered I can see that the first website was the most useful. However, if I use both I would be able to find an ideal location for a domestic abuse production.

Research Log -Market Research Murdered by my boyfriend - BBC A documentary had recently been released onto the BBC channel with a domestic violence storyline. The summary of what happened was a couple who got together when they were very young at the age of 17. They had a family together and during the 4 years of them being together she was persistently and constantly being abused by her partner, in private and in public. This documentary has only just come out on the bbd and is already extremely popular already being put in the most popular category on BBC iplayer. Once I looked further into the programme and gathered information on how popular it was I could see that people had a genuine interest in gaining knowledge on abuse. I typed this in on google to see if there were any articles on it, one article was written by the guardian. They stated that the aim of doing the programme was to make people aware of domestic abuse as well as wanting individuals to feel safe enough to talk about there experience that they have gone through or are going through. Below is a piece of text that I found in the guardian explaining there end goal for making “Murdered By My Boyfriend”.
  • 22.
Murdered By MyBoyfriend was a very hard hitting programme with an extremely likeable character which was the abuse victim. I viewed the programme myself and I feel as though they made the character very likeable so people feel sympathetic and the need to reach out to abuse victims and prevent anything like this happening further. Murdered By My Boyfriend was displayed on the BBC website I clicked on a link which directed me onto a page with information. This shows that BBC are willing to play a big part in creating awareness of domestic abuse. If I was creating a domestic abuse production I would have a good understanding that help lines should be shown throughout, at the start or at the end of the clip. This is an essential piece of information that should be provided as it could be the first step for a lot of abuse victims. The above text was included at the end of the programme, I feel this was a very powerful fact to put especially at the very end of the programme. It is a fact that may stay with viewers who have watched the programme. Overall after carrying out market research into domestic abuse I can see that people are defiantly taking more and more of an interest each day. It is clear that people want to help and want to be aware but maybe just don't know how. If I was making a production based around the subject area of abuse it would be key that I include information and help line numbers so people know exactly who they can trust. I feel if more channels like BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and E4 produce more programmes based around abuse people will have a whole better understanding of it and it will reach a much larger audience. People are going to put there trust in big TV channels if they are displaying content like that. I understand now that the main aims when making a domestic abuse production are to make it as effective and hard hitting as possible, raise awareness and include help lines at the end or throughout.

Research Log -Technical Elements Abuse in relationships - Would you stop yourself? After viewing the video I now have an understanding of the storyline. A boy and girl are in a relationship, they are sitting on her bed together. He advances towards her even though she has told him no several times. She gets a text and proceeds to reply to it, instantly he grabs her phone and throws it on the floor. When she gets up to get her phone he grabs her hair until she says she will do it. Whilst he is carrying out this abuse on his girlfriend there is a replica of him located behind a glass wall shouting stop it, don't do it. From what I can tell the idea of this abuse video is to make people think whether they would get to a point of being abusive and realise its wrong enough for them to stop. I gathered this from the title as well as the contents of the video. I feel as though the shot near the end with a replica of himself behind a window was extremely powerful, it is saying that everyone has it in them to stop themselves from getting angry and becoming abusive they are just choosing to not stop. The message being sent through this video is clear, if you could actually see yourself in the act of abusing someone would you stop? The first few shots used which were a medium shot, medium close, and a close up where a basic use of shots. I believe this has been done deliberately to make the viewers watching feel awkward just like the girl character is feeling. If you can get your viewers to feel what the people on TV are feeling you are more likely to like the character and feel sympathy for them.
  • 24.
As you cansee there is an awkward build up for a total of 20 seconds. There is no music all the way through out, this means all of the focus is going to be on the characters and what there dialogue is. They are trying to show that it is important to listen to what is being said as some people may not see this as abuse or pay attention. At the very end there is banging on the window of the replica male character. The banging is very powerful and the argument between the couple fades out. The banging at the end is much more powerful because of the lack of music throughout the production. The lighting throughout is very dull and dark. Not at any point is the lighting bright, even when the male replica character comes on it is an even darker setting. This has been done to show the seriousness of the situation that is happening. It is trying to make the audience watching feel as though it is a miserable situation to be in. The colours that the characters are wearing are also very dull, this represents there is nothing happy about the relationship. Violence is violence - Domestic abuse mankind I found a video that was in the most popular category on youtube within a week of upload. The video was called violence is violence - domestic abuse mankind. both a male and female couple. They are in public with strangers, all the people in the background are not part of the production. They abuse each other switching roles each time and wait to see the reaction from people. It was a very powerful video as it may make people realise that domestic is not always one way. There was a small fact at the end stating This production was made using 3 hidden cameras in a public park full of people. The lighting was natural bright lighting which did not play a huge part in creating an affect on the video, except for making it a realistic day to day setting. The use of hidden cameras was a very good way to go about filming as no one knew they were there so there response to the arguments taking place where genuine. This showed what people really thought. The themes and issue taking place was physical and emotional domestic violence. From both individuals.

Research Log -Professional Products Hollyoaks - this is abuse - extra clip I researched professional abuse videos to get some insight into how the professional producers do it. An extremely popular one at the moment is the hollyoaks domestic abuse storyline that is being made into abuse adverts. Hollyoaks the TV programme is aired on E4 which is a very well known respected TV channel. I found a video clip that thisisabuse had some involvement in making, the abuse clip featured patrick and maxine the two main characters in the abuse storyline aired on hollyoaks. From research I have done I can see that thisisabuse has had a lot of involvement in making various different abuse videos. Most of there abuse videos are featured around domestic abuse, being physical and emotional as they are the most common forms of abuse. I looked at all the hollyoaks abuse clips which gave me a good idea of what to include when making it. I realise that domestic abuse can be a very sensitive issue which is what I would have to be careful of if I was making an abuse production.

I am goingto be creating a questionnaire with both open and closed questions. I will base it around domestic abuse, specifically physical domestic abuse. My questionnaire will contain around 10-15 questions, once I have created them I will hand out 15 copy’s to various different age ranges. From all of the result’s I receive back I will compile them into graphs and bar charts, this will cover closed questions. To cover open questions I am going to analyse each response I receive back from my audience. To start of my questionnaire the majority of my questions are going to be closed questions, I have done this to make the audience feel comfortable with answering the questionnaire and so they feel as though it is not to personal to begin with. Domestic abuse is a very sensitive topic area which is why I do not want my audience to feel like they cannot answer the questionnaire at ease. The open questions of my questionnaire will be asked towards the end. I have done this so my audience now feel comfortable to open up and respond with something more personal. This will ensure I receive back meaningful responses. Below I have created a questionnaire with both open and closed questions, I have based my questionnaire around domestic abuse, physical domestic abuse specifically. My questionnaire contains 11 questions. I decided to hand out 15 copies of my questionnaire to various different age ranges as you can see the age ranges are listed in the first question. From all of the results I received back I compiled all my information in bar charts and pie charts. If I was to do my questionnaire again I would add more questions based around the topic of domestic abuse, However, I had to be careful and respectful as domestic abuse is a sensitive issue. Open questions Open questions are a form of questions that cannot be answered with Yes or No responses. When someones is asked an open ques Closed questions Closed questions is a very simple form of asking questions to your target audience. Closed questions do not require a long response, Domestic abuse questionnaire Introduction

Secondary Research Above isa small screen print from a list of 10 programme ratings. I chose to look closely at hollyoaks programme ratings because of the strong domestic abuse storyline that is being featured in the TV programme. Hollyoaks has been listed third on the list. A programme rating is something that shows what position a TV programme is in. The piece of text on the left explains that there are a group of women who are all singers and have chosen to feature on a domestic abuse related DVD/CD. All CD copy’s are distributed to different areas and communities for no fee. The majority of CD distribution goes to women shelters. A lot of CD/DVD’s are sold, all money that is made is donated to people in need or who have been affected by some form of abuse. From what I can see the distribution of CD’s and DVD’s is extremely high, this s

I had recentlywrote about a domestic abuse programme called murdered by my boyfriend that aired on the BBC around 2 weeks ago. The programme was on a main channel at a popular time so I knew it would have received a lot of views due to those circumstances. I left it about a week and then looked into how talked about murdered by my boyfriend was. There were so many programme reviews so I took a look at one on the voice website that was written by Elizabeth Pears. She expressed how hard hitting she thought this programme was and not it is almost similar to a horror. This helped me to understand that a lot of people took this programme very seriously and the person who made it set out to create awareness has defnatly achieved that.

After carrying outmy research into domestic abuse adverts I found that Hollyoaks seem to have the most recent uploads of domestic abuse awareness. I looked on youtube to find a thisisabuse video featuring hollyoaks actors/actresses in it. I watched the video through and took some clips from it that show clear signs of abuse taking place. I wanted to find out what peoples responses would be to the video so I took a look at a few comments posted underneath. One comment said “No one should go through this at all” This comment clearly shows people have a good understanding that these kind of acts are not acceptable. The majority of people’s attitudes to media products where positive in wanting to stop this from happening.

Responses to advertisingcampaigns I researched and had a look around at some advertising campaigns on abuse. I found a website that displaye Emotional abuse campaign poster produced in Lebanon. The shapes of the cuts on the women’s faces are actually showing the sound frequency of words. It is trying to explain to people that not all abuse that happens is physical. However, it still effects the victim just as much. Physical abuse video that was produced in England. It is a 1:09 long video filmed from the neighbours point of view. The neighbour is listening in and can hear a couple next door arguing. The neighbour carrys on listening during that time the argument worsens and it progresses into violence. The aim of this violence ad is inform people that they should always call 911/999 if they feel a physical domestic abuse crime is taking place. This video was very powerful as there was only one shot used and it focused on solely on the sound. This video was one of the most viewed domestic abuse campaigns.

“He gave methis when he proposed (right ad: “for my anniversary”). He gave me this for nothing at all (next to the broken bones). There’s no excuse for domestic violence. Talk to someone who cares.” The text above explains the X-Ray picture. It is saying that when they secured their marriage that is when the abuse started to begin. It is trying to show the audience that it is not their fault, they don't always know their partner is abusive until it is to late. From what I can see, I can tell that this advertising campaign is very held back, this may be because of the country the advertising campaign was made in. If it was any more brutal the responses to it may not have been great. Broken Bone This domestic abuse campaign poster was produced in France. A lot of their domestic abuse videos are quite brutal, they do not hold back on getting the message out to the audience. The setting the ad was shot in makes it stand out as it is a public setting. From what I have researched it is clear that some abuse campaigns and videos are more ruthless in the way they present their work. Other countries are more held back in how they get the message across to their audience.

Responses to newscoverage I researched into newspaper articles that have covered story’s of forms of abuse. I found one that received a lot of negative feedback in the way in which it was handled. The audience feel as though police are not doing everything they can to prevent domestic violence from taking place. Since all of these incidents have taken place the awareness of domestic abuse has been increased.

As you cansee displayed on the board is a list of 6 different types of abuse. The website she has chosen is very user friendly and visually striking. This is a good source to show a group of year 7’s because the use of colour is engaging to them. Books where handed out for the children to make notes on if they needed to, the majority of kids in there where very engaged and wanted to understand the topic.

As the lesson progressedI continued to observe and take some pictures of the event. She changed what was being shown on the board to a cornwall abuse website. Displayed on the website was how to receive help for cases of abuse. I feel as though this was a good message to get across to a young group of children at there age so they are aware for when they are older.

For my audienceresearch section I am going to need to find out a lot of detailed in depth information from my target audience. I am going to need to know the demographics of my audience as well as the geodemographics. This will enable me to narrow down who I will be targeting. To gather this information I undertook a series of primary research processes like focus groups, observations and questionnaires. All of these different research methods allowed me to get a good idea of who my target audience will be. Taking into account age, gender, sexual orientation, occupation etc. From the questionnaires I handed out the majority of individuals who answered them where aged 18-25. The majority of individuals who said they faced some sort of abuse in there lifetime where aged 26-35. This meant that it was clear my age focus should be 18-35. I felt that this was a good age to focus around. Most of the people I handed my questionnaires out to where females. The questionnaire did not really affect my decisions to target females, as I had a strong understanding from research that they where the most affected group of people. Education was not a factor I considered massively as the majority of individuals I am targeting where out of education and into a job, I focused more on individuals occupation. This meant looking at what type of job positions people are in who are being affected by forms of abuse. Audience Research - Age, Gender, occupation, education These two graphics showed both gender and age results from my questionnaire. The reason I went with 18-35 was because I combined the two age groups with the most individuals together.

The geodemographic audienceI will target is not going to be very specific. I will target all different postcode areas and locations. I am not narrowing it down because I believe abuse can take place anywhere. If I was going to choose any sort of geodemographic area then it would be a low postcode area. Those types of locations do not have a lot of money. When making this decision I also considered socio-economic factors, socio economic is how much money an individual makes and how that affects there attitude. I came to the decision that the less money people are making they are likely to be frustrated or stressed which may result in them lashing out. It also raises the risk of economic abuse. The majority of individuals who responded on my questionnaire where in working class, only a few where of the low class. Audience Research - Geodemographic, Socio-Economic The graph results from my questionnaire showing what social class individuals believe they are in. As you can see the majority of people who answered said they where in either working or lower class. I found that the majority of people in working and lower class where the ones who faced forms of abuse. This helped me make a decision when covering geodemographics.

Psychographics was anarea of research I looked at in a focus group. It is an individuals attitude (personality). This type of research is something very useful when selling a media product or creating a production on something. It helps the person creating the production understand how that person lives there lifestyle whether they work or whether they are unemployed, active not active. For me psychographics was not a key focus and it was not something I researched a lot. However, if I was going to target my video at any kind of group it would be unemployed individuals who do not have an active lifestyle. My reason for choosing this group of people would be because they have nothing better to do which means there attention is going to be turned to forms of abuse. Psychographics When carrying out research to find out the psychographics of someone, you will look at those 5 key aspects of it. It all comes down to understanding a persons behaviour and personality.

Ethnographic means whatethnicity individuals can be categorised into. It represents culture and what someones culture may be. Ethnographic is something I looked into with great detail, I researched different cultures and the different laws there are surrounding those cultures. I found that the majority of countries treat domestic abuse the same as a UK country would do. However, there were a few countries amongst the majority that do not take forms of abuse very seriously. I took into account all the different cultures and countries and decided I would focus on the UK. I did not want to widen that to other countries as I wasn't sure how to go about different cultures. Market Research -Competitor Analyse After carrying out market research on abuse campaigns and videos I do not necessarily see them as competition in some aspects. I see these videos as a process of learning. Most of the clips I have looked at are all trying to reach the end goal which is to create awareness for forms of abuse. Even though each video has the same end goal in terms of production it is different. In terms of production I am going to be in competition with all abuse videos and campaigns on the market. I have carried out competitor analyse through research on abuse campaigns and adverts on youtube and various different search engines. This has allowed me to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of the video, which means I can avoid the weaknesses they have and ensure I do not include them on my video. Some of the weaknesses I found where abuse campaigns where not sensitive enough around the topic area of abuse. This has resulted in them videos being given a warning or the videos being removed completely. A small clip from an advert that had been produced for the women’s aid charity had been removed shortly after it was aired. Clear cast, the ad approval body, The individuals who had involvement with the women’s aid charity stated that the removal of the video was"pathetic", arguing that, in banning the advert, it is shielding the public from the reality of domestic violence. Above is a small clip from a abuse video removed. This is what I need to be aware of if I want my content to be aired. It gives me an idea of what would happen if I where to make my domestic abuse video to explicit. Even though I agree with what was said, if all abuse video’s are being removed I will not be able to get my message out there.

Hollyoaks - BARB- viewing figures BARB viewing figures are extremely useful to advertisers, as well as companies that want to find out what programme to sponsor. Advertisers would have gone to barb figures to see if a certain programme is receiving a lot of views or not. In some cases individuals will also be able to see what type of people are watching a programme. Whether it mainly men or mainly women, younger or older people. This is useful so you can tell which programme your product would suit the most. Hollyoaks is listed 17th on the most viewed list. This means advertisers who may want to sponsor hollyoaks can see this data and make a decision based on this information.

I had a close look to see if each individual actor/actress had any other experience or involvement with other productions. As well as Georgina Campbell starring in murdered by my boyfriend she also had previous roles in Sadie J and One Night. Her role was a girl named whitney, she starred in 6 Episodes of the series. Georgina Campbell also had a role in a series called One Night. This was her second involvement in a produc

Murdered by myboyfriend - Talent - Reece Royce Pierreson (Reece) was the main male lead character. I clicked on his link which directed me to a full bio of himself as well as all programmes and films he has featured in. Royce Pierreson played a role in Thor: The Dark World. His role was as a student. Royce Pierreson played a role in London’s Burning. His role was Alex From the information I have gathered together from different sections on the IMDB, I can see that both talent members have had a reasonable amount of experience each. This role was not there first involvement in a production. I feel this is good because murdered by my boyfriend was a very serious topic that was being presented. It was essential that both talent where able to manage the role equally.

Self-promotion is, afterall, what the NSPCC is all about. Last year, just £36m of its annual £82m budget was spent on direct services to children; much of the rest went on publicity and campaigning. I took a look at the NSPCC website. I also looked at articles relating back to the NSPCC and looking closely at campaigns, adverts and fundraising events that the NSPCC carried out. I found an article written by the guardian that gave a rough outline of what the NSPCC is spending. The majority of NSPCC,s intake of money goes on advertisement and campaigns to raise awareness and prevent child abuse. The NSPCC's advertising budget last year was £1.58 million. Our campaigning action is not just "publicity". The work covers generating public awareness and education about child abuse; policy and legislative work; information to professionals; and providing advice, including free materials. We know that people's attitudes to children are clearly influenced by our campaigns. NSPCC - Finance I found another article that stated how much had been spent in 1 year on advertising and campaigns through the NSPCC. They explain that the money for advertisement does not just go on production and videos, it also goes on fundraising events and campaigning.

Placement - Webcast Awebcast is a form of distributing media over the internet and making media available to other individuals to view. It can be viewed either live or on demand. The media that is distributed is a video with audio. Webcast is unique in that it cannot be distributed via the TV it can only be shown through the internet, a webcast has the potential to be accessed via the internet, this will result in it being available in almost all parts of the world. A webcast is useful for current news, informing the public of current events that are taking place. Webcast is used widely in the business world, it is extremely useful when having conference calls or presenting a presentation to colleagues at work.

Placement - podcast Apodcast is another form of media which allows you to distribute portable audio content via the internet. What separates a podcast from a webcast is the use of video. With a podcast there is not necessarily any use of video it is purely audio that is available. A podcast can be distributed on a website, on blogger etc. This will give viewers the chance to subscribe if they want to. If I was to do a podcast for my domestic abuse video I would most likely upload it onto my blog page to make it easy access to my audience. As I am trying to create awareness by producing a forms of abuse production podcast would be good as it is a quick process with easy access. A podcast is unique because you are able to upload it through a podcast feed which then allows individuals to subscribe instantly. The majority of podcasts are available at no fee for you to be able to subscribe.

Placement - Broadcast Abroadcast is relatively similar to a webcast. However, a broadcast is distributed and aired through the TV using both video and audio content. A broadcast is the most known media form out of all three and is also probably the most used. For my domestic abuse production I am going to choose to use a broadcast and a webcast to distribute my material to viewers. I have chosen to use these two because I am able to use video content easily as well as audio content combined. The use of webcast to get my message across to viewers is going to be extremely useful as thousands of individuals will be able to access it not only from the UK, that is something I would not be able to achieve solely using broadcast.

Content - Locations Iused three main locations to shoot my domestic abuse production. One of the locations which featured half way through was the hallway. This was the first location used when the audio track began to play over the footage. This location had quite a high difficulty level as it was so narrow. I struggled to experiment with shot types as I had a limited amount of space, This prevented me from doing a lot of side shots. I resorted to do a lot of shots from the front and behind the talent. The location was reasonably difficult but I managed to improvise with the space I had. One positive of this location was that there where no sound issues as I was inside. The ceilings where not tall, this meant any sound content that would have been included did not echo. I did not have to worry about the weather as it was in a sheltered area. It was also not a problem if it rained because I was using an audio track over the top which would have blurred out the sound of weather. In terms of permission for the location as it was my parents house all I had to do was ask and get them to sign a release form. This was not hard as I had access to my parents most of the time and they did not mind me filming in the house.

My next mainlocation that was in the majority of my production was the kitchen. The kitchen was a very good location choice which is why I made the decision to film the majority of my footage in the kitchen. There was large amounts of space that I could work with. Lighting could be controlled as there where sensor lights and blinds. This meant I could easily manage lighting, which was extremely useful as I wanted to work in a dark area to go with the theme domestic abuse. Again the location was my parents house so all I needed to do was get permission and a signed release form.As there was so much space I was able to be more creative with the shot types I used. Although I was still limited to a certain extent because it was still in a household. Again it was inside which meant I did not have to worry about weather issues. I took into consideration that I had a child on set. I chose not to bring the child into the kitchen as there where to many natural health and safety risks, it would have also required more supervision which meant more crew and costs and time. Location - Hallway

Location - HolidayInn Gym This was one of the main locations I used at the very beginning of the video. This was the location used to introduce the lead male character. I would say I had the most problems filming in this location it also had the highest difficulty. I found it extremely hard to film all of the footage I needed due to all the mirrors located around the gym as walls. This made it difficult when I tried to angle all of my shots as it was hard for me not to capture a reflection of my self. It prevented me from doing a lot of medium and long shots as I could see myself in a reflection. Mirror

Viability Costs - AmI going to have the funds available to me for filming and how much funding will I need? When filming my production I will need a minor amount of funding as I have school equipment available to me at the time of filming. I will also get my actors and actresses for free as they will volunteer. Some of the minor funds will be spent on props for characters and some scenes etc. Although the cost is not a big problem for me when filming my production it is still important and i will need to take funding into account. For me costs where not a problem and it was all viable to do. Personnel - Am I going to have enough personnel to choose from. Also will I have the right characters for my team. As I am going to need two main adult characters in my production I may have some struggle finding the right people as all of the students are 19 and under. However, one of my characters will be a child under the age of 10 which should be easy to find. Personnel did not end up being a problem I managed to find enough crew and talent to take part.

Resources/facilities - AmI going to have the equipment and resources available to me for the duration of my production? Resources is not a huge issue for me as I have access to school cameras, tripods and equipment from 8am-4pm. I will also get an opportunity to have a camera on loan to me over the weekend. This will give me plenty of time to film my production. Resources/Facilities

Brand/Product Preference Brand andproduct preference is what a consumer chooses when they are buying a certain product. Brand preference is when a customer will choose a certain brand simply because it has a certain logo and has been branded high quality. It will show a customers loyalty to that certain product. In my case I did not feel as though product preference related because my video is not being sold. I have created my video simply to create awareness to consumers on the market. I am not trying to compete with selling my video. I want people to increase there knowledge on abuse.
