Unit 1: P1, M1, D1
Why would you complete research if you were creating a new media product?
· To find out if your target audience would buy your product
· To find out how much you could sell your product for
· To find out how to make your product more appealing to your target audience
· To find out how to market your product to your target audience
Find definitions of the 4 research methods and give your opinions as to advantages/disadvantages for each one.
Method Definition Advantage Disadvantage
Primary
Is the original materials that
are yet to be edited/filtered.
You hold proof of your pre
edited footage.
Takes up a lot of memory and
is not always needed after
production and editing.
Secondary
Is the use of discussion to
produce a product meant for
conversations such as the
news.
Easy to obtain and is often
used.
There are products that are
produced with the same
information that are used
more often today.
Quantitative
The use of questions to
obtain information that
concerns your business such
as question airs.
Gathers a lot of useful
information on the chosen
topics.
People would rather not do
surveys unless offered or
forced.
Qualitative
Is used to gather data about
people and the science
behind their actions.
Once known of what that
person likes producers of a
product can pitch ideas that
best suit them.
Intrudes on personal
information.
Unit 1: P1, M1, D1
What research techniques (e.g. using the library, the internet, watching videos, reading info, recces, practises,
plans etc) did you use when completing the assignments in year 10 for Unit 5 (Crime Drama and Music Videos)
and Unit 7 (Festival Bags) ?
I mostly used the internet as it is my most accessible resource it holds a lot of information, it contained all the resources I
needed to complete my task such as; readable articles, videos, images but I also used the radio as they give a lot of pop
culture, music and filming advice and info.
What research methods (e.g. primary, secondary, qualitative, quantitative) did you use when completing the
assignments in year 10 for Unit 5 (Crime Drama and Music Videos) and Unit 7 (Festival Bags) ?
I mainly used secondary; the main source I used was the chat rooms on the topics and internet articles concerning the
topic.
If you didn’t use some of the methods in year 10, would use you them if you were to do your projects again? How
and why would you do this?
I would use more methods that would be more eye catching and likeable to my audience.
How did you collate, store and use the information when researching for your year 10 units? (e.g. did you book
mark key websites? Keep a list of websites used? Print off or save any info for your folders?)
The main way I did this was copying the html into a word document and giving myself a little information helped me define
the sources.
