Research Paper On Pyrrolo
5.1. Introduction to Pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline
The chemistry of fused nitrogen heterocycles is very important because of their occurrence in
numerous natural products and their versatile applications in the pharmaceutical industry and
materials science 1. Among various synthetic approaches for fused nitrogen heterocycles, pyrrolo[1,2
a]quinolines and their oxidized and reduced forms are widespread among natural products and
biologically active pharmaceuticals 2. Moreover, the skeleton of pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline exists in
many biologically active natural alkaloids such as gephyrotoxin (Fig. 5.1), which is a substituted
perhydropyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline that was isolated by Daly and co workers in 1977 from secretions of
the frog Dendrobates histrionics 3 Moreover, the isolation of gephyrotoxin a natural alkaloid with
pyrrolo[1,2a]quinoline skeleton, which was subjected to numerous studies to investigate its biological
activity and has been a target for total synthesis 4.
Scheme 1. A few examples of pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline containing natural products and

Why I m Fine Rudolph
Imagine a Café in a quiet street with a European mood. A nice place, not a lot of people and it s 10 am.
There s a table where three men sit, all of them very sharp. They are speaking in German. So how are
you today Riccardo? says one. I m fine Rudolph, how are you? The third man is concentrated in coffee
and cigarettes.
Riccardo Klement is a technician who works in a metal factory and lives with his family in the elegant
Palermo Chico Neighborhood, in downtown Buenos Aires where the coffee place is located. Helmut
Gregor is the owner of a pharmaceutical company and lives with his family in the suburbs. The third
man is Emilio Meier who works as president Peron s air force advisor and lives in the same
neighborhood
Keep the same picture in mind, but now knowing that those are false identities and that these three
men are Adolf Eichman, Himmler s right hand during the war and charged with the logistics of the
extermination camps after final solution decision, Joseph Mengele, who chose who went to gas
chambers in Auschwitz and is known for his experiments with humans and Hans Ulrich Rudel, the
most highly decorated soldier of the German Air force during the war. It is 1950.

What Are The Positive Effects Of Speed Camera
On the hand, positive effect of speed cameras is economic benefit.
According to the survey, only in United Kingdom, car crashes got the live of 3100 people and more
(Pettinger). The total economic cost of the car accident death is predicted as about 1 million including
money spend on police and hospitals. If speed cameras were used more often, it would have save
many people s life. According to the data, in 2002, 3431 were dead because of the car accident and
more than 33 percent of the deaths were happened because of the over speed. The Association of Chief
Police Officers says that the most affectable factor to the car incident is speed, which is over drink
driving or drug driving. Another positive effect of speed camera is that it is benefit to the environment.
Basically, lower speed will make lower fuel consumption and this helps to decrease carbon emissions
and also global warming. On the other hand, disadvantage of speed camera, is that there is no way to
prove its safety. NMA, The National Motorist s Association believes that the companies that sell the

Even though it will not protect from total injury or death, it is helpful by doing the duty of cushioning
the passengers. Like seatbelt does, airbags decrease the impact that passengers receive directly and
also reduce the force by spreading it over wide areas. For other parts in the air bag, there is Crash
Sensor that is in the car to sensor the force receives when car accident happens and the direction of an
impact. When the sensor detects the force highly enough, it sends the sign which will set off the
igniter and that will lead up to inflating the air bag. When a car receives a harsh crash, small electric
charge will run and the chemicals around them will create a gas and that is the principle of inflating

Bowling For Columbine Documentary Essay
Documentary reflection
The assignment task for Term two was for a small group of people (three), to create a documentary
and then each person to write a reflection. Before starting this documentary, we studied the history and
development of documentaries. We then looked more into how different documentaries, Spellbound
(objective) and Bowling for Columbine (subjective), how each separate style was created and made
and how each different style affected people.
We ran into conflict when we were choosing what topic for our documentary. We all had many ideas
but most of them we had to rule out because they would not be suitable for Year 5 and 6. The target
audience only left us a few ideas. This is because when we first started off thinking ... Show more

We added some funny videos to please the target audience.
We interviewed most of or interviewees in a classroom. The reason why we choose this area is that
because when a student is at school, they are constantly in a classroom. So soon enough many feel
more comfortable in a classroom than other places. We interviewed some grade tens were their bags
are. We assumed they would be more honest if they were interviewed somewhere that was familiar
and in a sense comforting because if they feel comfortable, they would normally be more truthful. We
chose to do a mid shot because when most people are nervous, they tend to move their feet and we
didn t want to show them nervous to be interviewed. We also used different camera angles to show
different people. Some were smaller, so we lowered the angle and where the camera was positioned.
From watching Bowling for Columbine and Spellbound , we decided to choose a subjective
documentary because we were all more interested in Bowling for Columbine than Spellbound . When
editing we looked at what Bowling for Columbine did with editing things together and things out to
get what our point across more affected.
When working in a group, we found it hard to balance out the roles, but I think we did. I was the
editor and camera person which is a great duo because I imagined what I wanted to do with the
filming and just had to ask

Leadership Approach Paper – Behavioral Approach
Leadership Approach Paper
Organizations depend on the management and leadership skills of individuals in order to be
successful. Leaders do not have to be managers but are equally important. Leaders are individuals who
possess traits, behavior and abilities to influence others to accomplish tasks and other needed
objectives for the company. Leadership is defined as the ability of an individual to influence, motivate,
and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organization. . . . (House et
al., 1999, pg. 184).
According to Yuki, G. (2010) there are five different leadership approaches that are being researched.
These five approaches are:
1. Trait approach
2. Behavior approach
3. Power influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a not an easy task to change behavior, especially if a person is not interested in change. This is
approach seems to best fit my personal leadership approach. Looking back at my previous
employment as a financial associate at Boone County National Bank, I can relate to the definition of
the behavioral approach. I was always concerned about given tasks and people. My behavior
influenced others to follow and start behaving the same way I did. A great example is the way I used
to deal with my customers. I was friendly, concerned with their business and ensured that they were
well taken care of. By being concerned and open minded, I completed sales and other branch needed
tasks without pushing or forcing myself on someone. With a combination of traits and behavior me
and my colleagues made a great team and were able to complete all tasks on time, efficiently and
effectively as well as satisfy all of our customers and managers. Looking back over the
accomplishments of the branch I worked in as well as my personal accomplishments, I feel proud of
what I have helped accomplish.
Conclusion
Understanding the difference between effective management and effective leadership is important.
Leaders are not always born leaders; they can be formed into leaders if that is what they want. All five
leadership approaches combined would form the perfect leader but each individual has special traits
and behaviors that can make one into a leader. The behavioral

ADHD, Ritalin, Families, and Pharmaceutical Companies Essay
ADHD, Ritalin, Families, and Pharmaceutical Companies In today s fast paced society, it seems that
prescription drugs are a more reasonable and reliable solution for children and adults than diet and
exercise for the disease known as ADHD. Rather than take the time to play with their children, or
institute a proper diet, it seems that increasing numbers of parents would rather treat their children s
unexplained zest for life with pills and doctors. While there are some explanations and reasons for the
diagnosis of this popular disease, most children are improperly diagnosed, and are therefore taking
unneeded medication. This medication is costly and it can be argued those who benefit from the sale
of these drugs most are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the National Institute of Mental Health (2004) signs of ADHD become noticeable in
children during their preschool and early years of school. It is estimated that 3 to 5 percent of children
have ADHD, which is roughly about 2 million children in the United States. This means that 1 child
out of a classroom that has 25 30 students in it will have ADHD. The NIMH (2004) has stated this in
their article on ADHD that Dr. Heinrich Hoffman first described it in 1845. He was a physician who
wrote books on medicine and psychiatry, he also wrote books for children. He described the disease in
a book he was writing to his son, he wrote The Story of Fidgety Phillip which described a little boy
with the exact symptoms of what would be known today as ADHD. It was not until 1902 that Sir
George F. Still published a lecture to the Royal College of Physicians in London about impulsive
children with behavioral problems that he stated were caused by a genetic dysfunction and not by poor
education. Since then many studies have been done on the cause, symptoms, and treatment of ADHD.
There is no real evidence of what causes ADHD. There have been many theories and hypothesis on
the subject but no real concrete evidence of what causes the disease or how to prevent it. According to
WebMDHealth (2004) inherited genetic factors is the most common theory on the cause of ADHD,

The Complicated Relationship Between The Black And White...
The Complicated Relationship between the Black and White Americans
Amiri Baraka s play the Dutchman is a portrayal about the interactions between the two major
characters Lula and Clay. The two came from different races, whereas Clay is a twenty year old
African American, while Lula on her thirties is a white woman. It all started when Lula had the
courage to approach Clay, accusing the latter intent of staring from the window of a train. In their
conversation, it demonstrates how Lula was trying to manipulate the situation, depicting the
relationship between the two races and the problem about stereotyping. In the play, Lula first appeared
as a beautiful and attractive white woman with an apple at her hand (Baraka, 1). Somehow, if her
character will be interpreted based on Biblical teaching, it appears that she is more like a temptress
like Eve. Although, Lula only met Clay for the first time, but she acted like knowing everything about
the latter. She even mocked and insulted Clay, especially with regards to his intellect and clothing.
Through this portrayal, the Lula was trying to reveal her true nature as a rude individual, and there is
no way Clay could approach her on the same footing.
The Dutchman as a Play
Clearly, the character of Lula represents the White people and their racist attributes. Through her
actions alone, she was trying to show herself as more powerful than Clay.
Meanwhile, the character of Clay is the opposite of Lula, considering that he is an

Symbolism In A Rose For Emily
Symbolism is the use of an object or a word to represent an abstract idea. It s often used by writers to
represent a hidden message or a hint in a story. The short Stories A Rose for Emily by William
Faulkner and Everyday Use by Alice Walker are great examples of the use of symbolism. In A Rose
for Emily Faulkner uses symbolism to create a Story about a woman called Emily whose life is
surrounded by mysteries, especially after the death of her father and the disappearance of her beloved
Homer. Falkner uses symbolism to hide several messages through the Story which, in my opinion,
sounds very morbid as things happen. In Everyday Use, Alice Walker symbolizes her messages
through a beautiful detailed story where Mrs. Johnson also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Emily herself is also considered a symbol. She has a great admiration for her father for her father who
have always protect her from everything, specially from men. After he passes way Emily doesn t want
to accept his death and becoming completely isolated on her house refusing any kind of change
around her. Emily grows older and has a sort of tragic and serene (227) appearance. Her obsession of
keep the same life style she used to have when her father was alive makes Emily set her own rules in
Town. She wants to keep a verbal agreement her father had excusing her from paying taxes, refuses
the modernization on mail, and keeps her old fashioned world inside of her house while the world
outside is changing. Emily tries to keep the same status of the high society group she used to belong.
Her attempt to stay in the past represents the decline of this social group, the representation of an old
society refusing the new, the modernization, the technology. The symbols help the author of A Rose
for Emily address the message of we can t avoid the changes around us. The world is in constant
changing and we have to follow it. In Every Day Use , Alice Walker also uses several symbols to
transmit her message to the readers. Living in a rural area, Mrs. Johnson cleans her yard to the arrival
of her daughter Dee who s coming to visit her from city. On the first paragraph she prepares the yard
carefully and describes the yard carefully. A

The Creatures Outside Looked From Pig To Men In Animal...
In the book Animal Farm the last sentence is, The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from
man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which (Orwell,
p.141). This quote is saying that the pigs are not human, but their greed is just like a human.
In the book animal farm the pigs end up acting like humans at the end, which was one of the initial
rules that humans are bad. They are taking their power into granted and acting like a human. This is an
analogy because Orwell is comparing the pigs to a man. This quote is the last sentence in the book and
it is said by the narrator. It fits the plot because it wraps up the whole concept of how Napoleon and
the other pigs took advantage are now

Ancient Greek Lessons
In ancient Greece, children learned their lessons through myths told to them, just like how children
today often learn their lessons through the movies they watch and the stories they read. These lessons
that children learned from myths weren t exactly the type of lessons we learn today. Today we learn to
be kind to one another, follow the rules, be respectful, stay true to your friends, and a lot of other
things like that. But back then, the main lessons were often more based around religious values, and
were often more violent and exaggerated than the stories of today. The lessons taught to people in
Greek Mythology were meant to teach you to respect your gods, parents and the morals of society at
the time. From a lesson that teaches people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Antonia Nature Analysis
In My Antonia , nature consistently presents hardships for characters to overcome and also brings
forth inspiring beauty and life within the rural landscape of Nebraska. Throughout the novel, nature
plays an important role in shaping the lives of Jim and Antonia. And through a deeper analysis of how
nature causes growth in the lives of Jim and Antonia via both suffering and beauty, we are able to
develop a better understanding of the role of nature in the novel as a whole.
Throughout the novel, a naturalistic style of writing is evident not only in the vividly detailed
depictions of the Nebraska frontier, but also by how the characters interact with the land in which they
live. The common naturalist theme of man being controlled and at the mercy of nature appears many
times throughout the novel, particularly in the chapters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jim connects with the nurturing power of the summer as he appealingly describes the environment he
grew up in, burning summers when the world lies green and billowy beneath a brilliant sky, when one
is fairly stifled in vegetation, in the color and smell of strong weeds and heavy harvests (Cather 3).
Jim even dwells on the idea of the summer even during the winter, It was as if we were being
punished for loving the loveliness of summer (Cather 136). And with these nostalgic and romanticized
views of the moments in the kinder seasons in which nature in Nebraska is quiet pleasant, inspire Jim
and are what keep him wanting to return. Even the literature he reads at college seems to poke at the
fact that Jim longs to be back in Nebraska. This is specifically seen when he ironically begins to read
an instructive poem from the Georgics, written by Virgil about farming, It opened with the melancholy
reflection that, in the lives of mortals the best days are the first to flee (Cather

Redistricting, The Process Of Adjusting States
Redistricting, the process of adjusting states district lines to even the population among said districts,
has transformed into a science. Depending on a state s population, a certain amount of agents
represent that state in the House of Representatives. Well each representative has his or her own
district in their home state. These districts then play a role in electing that specific representative to the
House. This seems like a standard government function, but the Constitution does not specify any
limits on how or by who the districts should be drawn. This process has been left to the state
legislatures. The issue that we run into is that once placed in legislature hands, those in power have the
ability to draw the congressional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, let s say we have two districts in the same state. District A contains 900,000 people
compared to district B with 100,000. This means that the people in district A have about one eighth of
the vote that the people in district B have. The supreme court ruled that this was unconstitutional, and
now redistricting requires districts to be equivalent based on population. This was one of some court
cases that has constricted states when dealing with redistricting, but states still have a lot of wiggle
room. As long as they follow strict population equality and do not dilute the votes of ethnic minorities,
the states are in the clear. The subject at hand here is not about the legality of gerrymandering, but
whether or not the redistricting process should be nonpartisan. I believe that the current redistricting
process is unfair and illogical, and that the process should be nonpartisan to take the partisan politics
out of the process, create more competitive elections, correct this flaw in the democratic process, and
relieve some gridlock that redistricting produces.
The United States of America has been built on a democratic foundation to protect and serve we the
people. The current government has two main parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, and they
will stop at nothing to maintain their positions within the government. Unfortunately, gerrymandering
is an action

The Veldt By Ray Bradbury Analysis
Competing, as humans we compete so much throughout our lives, it s what makes us human. We even
try so hard that we distance ourselves from others. Ray Bradbury shows us in his two stories, The
Veldt and Marionettes, Inc. that there is something we can t contend with; technology. In these stories
the author shows us a world where people are distant because of and can t compete with technology.
In Ray Bradbury s short story The Veldt he shows us a family that is so distant from each other
because of technology. The Hadley family lives in a Happylife Home that does everything for them
and the children depend on their nursery that has raised them their entire lives. Mr. David McClean
comments to Mr. Hadley, You ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your
children s affections. This room is their mother and father, far more important in their lives than real
parents ( The Veldt 10). Children Wendy and Peter live in their own personal bubble because they don
t have to rely on their parents for anything. The children rely so much on their nursery that it has
replaced and made them so distant from their own parents. Technology has become the children s
parents; their role model. The nursery has caused the family to become distant, but it s more than that,
it s the entire house. Bradbury adds, And he marched around the house turning off the voice clocks,
the stoves, the heaters, the shoe shiners, the shoe lacers, the body scrubbers and swabbers

The Impact Of Macro Forces On The Sportswear Industry
The sportswear industry provides clothing, including footwear, worn for sport or physical exercise and
has now evolved as casual fashion clothing more than athletic wear. In this report I will be talking
about Kotler s macro forces and their effect on the sportswear industry. I will also be comparing two
organizations from the industry and evaluating the similarities and differences between them.
Macro environment or macro forces consists of the larger societal factors that have the potential to
affect an organization s strategies. According to Phillip Kotler, these variables include demographic,
economic, natural, technological, political, and cultural outside forces. ( Josbd , n.d, para. 7)

Technological environment is the combination some factors which develop new products and also

technology can either profit the organization, or create threats of more competitors in the market. In
the sportswear industry, technological factors could cause unemployment as machines replace
workers. It could, however, reduce cost as more products can be made at a lower cost and lesser

Marine Mammal Bycatch Essay
Throughout the years, marine mammal bycatch has continued to be a growing concern due to a steady
increase in mammal mortality rates. Mike Gaworecki mentions in his article that during this past
month the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration initiated a rule limiting seafood imports
from different countries that do not meet the United States new bycatch standards. Bycatch is a term
that means catching unwanted species when intending to fish for a different type of species. On a daily
basis multiple dolphins, whales, and other unwanted animals are being captured because of
inappropriate or ill suited forms of netting and traps. By implementing this rule the United States
government hopes to prevent and reduce future cases of inappropriate capture. NOAA claims that they
feel this is necessary because they want to enforce more restrictions on fishery related marine mammal
deaths, while influencing other countries to improve on their fishing methods.
The reason for this sudden ruling was because several conservation groups joined together to sue the
American government for lack of improvement throughout the years on fishery imports from other
countries. By losing this ruling, the United States government has been forced to change their
standards in order to support a previous act they made in 1972, The Marine Mammal Protection Act.
This act originally provided protection for all marine mammals and included their protection of
population sustainability. Over the years, the government had failed to continue this protection with
countries that they imported seafood supply from and thus led to stricter regulations. A key example
used to demonstrate some effects the seafood imports had include the ... Show more content on

The origins of American English date back to the beginnings of the seventeenth century and the first

had landed on the coast some three decades before, the attempts to establish a settlement failed due to
unexpected conflicts with Native Americans. Jamestown, the first English colony named after James I
was established in 1607. It was but one of many settlements that promptly started to fill the coast and

Interracial Marriage In Guess Who s Coming To Dinner
Stanley Kramer s film, Guess Who s Coming to Dinner, explores the controversial issue of interracial
marriage and reflects society s prejudicial views during the 1960 s. In the 60 s, the concept of an

The 1951 convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of
Refugees (The Refugees Convention) was designed for the protection of asylum seekers. It identifies
their rights to seek asylum whether it be from persecution in regards to race, religion, nationality, or
political opinion outside of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Coalition Government 2013 policy Operation Sovereign Borders reported that sending asylum
seekers back via military vessels patrolling Australian waters has restored the integrity of its borders
and prevented deaths at sea. Conversely, this is neither humanitarian nor helping solve the problem to
protect offshore asylum seekers already detained. This does not protect and promote individual rights
of those seeking asylum under the human rights convention. In addition to the indefinite detention has
had a major impact on the physical and mental health of asylum seekers. This has been evident in
protests from detainees that have resulted in deaths on Manus Island, in which security and police
were present. Is reported is widespread and systematic abuse, the cramped conditions of their
accommodation, and the lack of facilities causing illness and poor hygiene. Along with the lack of
medical treatment available all these conditions are well below international standards. If the
Australian government refuses to bring refugees to Australia then it must ensure that conditions of the
detention are humane. Australia has entered into an arrangement whereas by other states are used for
resettlement, it is however still responsible for ensuring human rights obligations and adhered to under
these paramagnets. The conditions of detention state that refugees are not to be held for lengthy stays
in solitary detention, and that they have access to key services such as health care, education and
mental health services. The Australian government s offshore operations are extremely guarded and
service providers working for the Australian government face criminal charges and civil penalties if
they disclose any information about the conditions of the asylum seekers and refuges. The border
forces act 2015 heightened security after the event that happened on the

Stephen Crane s The Open Boat and Jack London s To Build...
Stephen Crane s The Open Boat and Jack London s To Build A Fire
Stephen Crane s short story, The Open Boat speaks directly to Jack London s own story, To Build A
Fire in their applications of naturalism and views on humanity. Both writers are pessimistic in their
views of humanity and are acutely aware of the natural world. The representations of their characters
show humans who believe that they are strong and can ably survive, but these characters many times
overestimate themselves which can lead to an understanding of their own mortality as they face down
death.
In To Build A Fire , the main conflict throughout is man versus nature although it would be inaccurate
to say that nature goes out of its way to assault the man. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The man laughs him off because he views himself as superior towards other men and believes that he
can easily survive in the wilderness. The Man s ego allowed him to think that he had everything under
control, even though his fingers were numb from the cold.
Eventually, survival becomes the primary focus of the Man, who is trying, in vain, to protect himself
against the unforgiving force of nature. He fruitlessly tries to warm himself back up, which is a direct
contrast to the complete indifference displayed by Yukon. The environment merely remains the same
and does not care one way or another as to whether the man survives or not. Jack London also uses
numbers to reinforce the harsh realities of the Yukon, such as how fifty degrees below zero is the
marker for the danger zone. The use of numbers shows the desperation of the Man s situation and
readers can slowly see his situation deteriorating further and further. Also, the idea of naturalism
claims that the world is knowable only through objective science and that hard facts, such as
temperature degrees, makes this particular world knowable and present some semblance of familiarity.
Jay Gurian comments in his article, The Romantic Necessity in Literary Naturalism: Jack London ,
about how London, and other naturalist writers deal with the forces of nature:

Authors Note
This paper was prepared for MEA 205, taught by Melody Redman Abstract
This paper will explain what every woman, teenager, and parent who has female daughter s needs to
know about endometrial cancer. It is important for women to educate themselves about this common
disease, but it is also important for parents. If you have abnormal vaginal bleeding that is not related to
menses, there is a clear vaginal discharge, you have long and / or heavy bleeding after the age of 40,
difficult or painful urination, pain in the pelvic area, or if you feel any kind of pain after intercourse,

The endometrium is the lining of the uterus, a hollow, muscular organ in a woman s pelvis. The uterus
is where a fetus grows. In most non pregnant women, the uterus is about 3 inches long. The lower,
narrow end of the uterus is the cervix, which leads to the vagina . (www.cancer.gov 2017)
One of the risk factors for endometrial cancer is obesity. These women who are heavier they carry
more fat cells than someone who is not obese. Because there has been such a rise in obesity, this now
affects children and teens. There seem to be more cases in younger women today. Other risk factors
are the use of Tamoxifen. This is a drug that is used to treat breast cancer, and while tamoxifen is for
breast cancer it hinders the endometrium. It can cause cancer cells in the lining of the wall to grow,
therefore causing endometrium cancer.
Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (pcos) is another risk factor. PCOS happens when little cysts continue
to grow on the ovaries and, filling with fluid and causing pain. PCOS is an imbalance in a woman s
hormones; it causes the excess of progesterone, estrogen, and can cause

Religious Oppression And Religious Persecution
Religious oppression, persecution... The noun is related to persecute which comes from Latin
persecute meaning followed with hostility persecution means hassling or singling out a person, or
group, because of race, religion, or sexual orientation, gender, or social status to persecute.
Religious persecution is the systematic mistreatment of an individual or group of individuals as a
response to their religious beliefs or affiliations or lack thereof.
When I picked my topic, I chose to pick religious oppression because I feel being raised Jewish but
always believing in Jesus I was always kind of told by my rabbis not to talk about Jesus. I feel that I
ve been oppressed in many ways. I feel that on my Jewish heritage side my ancestors were ... Show

Even if Christ had not died the way he did there was no higher honor than the nature of his death and
it would ve always been held in the highest of esteem for Christ.
If you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed but praise God that you bear the name first Peter 4:16.
Many people might ask why did Christians and people that believed so highly in God and Jesus go
through so many sacrifices and such suffering so to give you a little bit of history Rome had accepted
the deities from the Italian tribes the Asian minor in these provinces there were great territorial gods
such as Saturn and North Africa and Jehovah among the Jews these were accepted as legal religion.
Even if people felt that some of the acts that these religious tribes did odd or unreligious it was still
considered tradition. There was local gods and local goddesses that were worshiped by people in the
Greco Roman world and they were named and known as the Roman deities. Despite all of this going
on in the second century there was a Roman governor named Bithynia who lived on the Black Sea and
he had no problem when it came to executing people who claimed to be a Christian the name alone
was a death warrant.
Another fact about Christianity is that we have endured hostility for over 300 years. A lot of people
believe that persecution started with the Roman authorities but in the New Testament s it tells about
the problems between the Christians and the

Mexican American Journey
The Journey of a Mexican American Feeling different isn t necessarily something uncommon to me,
especially growing up as a Mexican American living in the United States. It s interesting because you
would think I d feel like I belonged in America. After all, I was born in America. Just like Richard
Rodriguez mentions in his chapter Asians from the book Days of Obligation, I didn t like America...
(Rodriguez 172), until I started school and just like him ...I became Americanized (Rodriguez 172).
Like Rodriguez implies, the school system in America ensures that students learn about America and
the language which inevitably Americanizes them. With that being said coming to this point, where I
can say I am American was a journey of its own. I often find myself struggling to maintain my roots
while still being American. Rodriguez mentions early on in his chapter, The child of immigrant
parents is supposed to perch on a hyphen, taking only the dose of America he needs to advance in
America (Rodriguez 161). In other words, the child of immigrant parents are neither really Mexican
nor American, they re just somewhere in the middle or as Rodriguez states they re on the hyphen. It s
difficult to try to maintain your culture while still being American enough to succeed. As a Mexican
American, if you re too American , you lose a part of you and your culture. On the other hand, if you
re too Mexican , you will never find success in America. Now the

The Morphology Of Species Of Snakes
The term morphology refers to a division of biology that looks at the forms of living organisms and
the relationships between them and their physical structures. In terms of morphology, snakes are quite
interesting, especially when it comes to venomous snakes of Kansas. Here, we will describe snakes,
their structure, what they eat, how often, reproduction, habitat and other interesting facts about snakes
in general. Then, we will examine closely venomous snakes that are indigenous to Kansas. Snakes are
elongated, flexible, and limbless reptiles from the suborder Serpentes. There are approximately 2,900
different species of snakes. There are around 700 different species of venomous snakes and 250 of
these are able to kill a human with a single bite. Snake are generally carnivorous. They eat various
items such as termites, birds, eggs, mice, rabbits, and other reptiles/mammals. Snakes do not chew
their prey; they swallow it whole and their moveable maxillary allows them to swallow large prey
three times the size of their heads. They have rear facing teeth which helps them keep their prey
captive until they can swallow it. Some venomous snakes will inject their prey with venom while
constricting snakes will squeeze the breath from their prey until they die. Snakes do not need to hunt
food every day because they only eat once or twice per week. Large snakes such as anacondas and
pythons can survive for up to an entire year without food. Mostly snakes hunt at

Comparison Between Because He Loves Her And Girl Afraid
The poem Because He loves Her , by Emily Dickinson, and the song Girl Afraid by The Smiths share
a common topic: relationship dynamics. They discuss two different couples and show both ends of the
spectrum. In Dickinson s poem, the two are in love and the man treats his love exceptionally well. In
Girl Afraid , the couple is in a vastly different situation. They seem listless and completely lacking in
love or feelings of intimacy. Emily Dickinson s poem seems to be from an outsider s perspective. We
will pry and see if she is fair gives the impression that perhaps the narrator deems the man s paramour
maybe lacking, or maybe the narrator is jealous (Dickinson 2). This line sets the tone of the rest of the
poem as a possibly bitter narrator grows to grudgingly admit that the woman mentioned is beyond
suitable. Then there is That we are so far behind / Her Distances ... Show more content on

However, the two stay together despite their issues and their mutual cry of I ll never make that mistake
again . Emily Dickinson s Because He loves Her has a thriving relationship in comparison, and the
misery is that of the narrator s. In the song, the girl laments that her boyfriend doesn t notice her
despite her attempts to garner his attention. In contrast, Not hoping for his notice vast / But nearer to
adore means that the woman in the poem does not have to try to get her beau s attention, and that he
just adores her (Dickinson 9 10). The poem and the song both delve into the dynamics between a
romantically involved pair, and seem to have three characters. In Because He loves Her , the three
characters are the woman, the man, and the jealous narrator. In Girl Afraid , the three characters are
the girl, the boy, and the person they seem to be complaining to. This leads to the ideas of both the
poem and the song, and how they have similar tones, and the importance of the

Characteristics Of Oedipus The King
Oedipus the Tragic Hero A protagonist is a hero of a tragedy who has a high authority or power, and is
a somewhat okay person, who is brought down by an error in judgement. A good character example is,
Oedipus the King, by Sophocles. Oedipus is a tragic hero who is characterized by the definition
described. Oedipus the king had a hard way of life since after his birth he is abandoned by his parents
,who wanted him killed when he was cast out of Thebes. This however, does not stop him from being
completely happy in life. Oedipus is a tragic hero because he is not this perceived perfect guy. He has
bad qualities, but this is not why he experiences a downfall. Oedipus the King, by Sophocles is a greek
tragedy play about human suffering and pain, but is good at the same time because a person can learn
something and benefit from it.Oedipus is already considered to be somewhat of a hero in the
beginning, as he is seen as a good person. He made decisions that ultimately led to the changes that
occurred in his life. Oedipus is a perfect example of a tragic hero which can be seen in his
characteristics like his tragic flaws, the desire to know the truth, and the knowledge gained in the end.
The first thing as a tragic hero that Oedipus has is tragic flaws. Within the play Oedipus displays two
tragic flaws, his pride, and his arrogance, and determination. Tiresias, the oracle predicted to Oedipus
that he would in

Spring by Gerard Manley Hopkins
With every end, there is a beginning. When the cold winter ends, there is a new beginning in nature
where the trees and flowers start fresh as they grow once again. The poem Spring , takes us, readers,
to a setting where the place shows complete nature. We are to imagine aesthetic scenery where spring
has arrived and everything that happens during this season is happening right in front of us. The
speaker seems to appreciate nature so much that he sees the complete difference between the seasons
and that he admires the birth of the natural world. He explains his feelings in almost all aspects as he
describes the rinsing in his ears in one line which may mean that, his mind, soul, and body is refreshed
with what the natural sound that he hears during this season. As for him, he conceptualizes the natural
world as a pure creation of God and that it helps in spiritual awakening. Here is the interpretation and
analysis of the poem based on the sections that respect the grammar and meaning of its sentences:
Nothing is so beautiful as Spring When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
In the first line, the speaker says that there is no other thing that is as similar to the beauty of Spring.
With the dash after the word spring, it means that the speaker is trying to let the readers believe the
first statement that nothing is so beautiful as Spring. The weeds in wheels in the second line may
mean, that, weeds have grown in wheels or maybe the way the weeds

Us Financial Crisis
The US Financial System: A Crumbling Empire
The financial system has been crucial to the role of free enterprise. Financial markets have come to
supply non financial corporations with mechanisms for managing their risks and for comparing and
evaluating diverse investment opportunities in a highly complex global economy (Cindin, 2008).
However, despite the lifetimes it took to build our financial institutions, bad luck and careless risk
management have jeopardized careers and mortgaged these institutions futures (Wallace, 2008). The
nation is currently attempting to deal with the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. It is
now imperative that a way be found which will re regulate finance without undermining finance s ...

The ongoing plunge in bank capital is already forcing banks to significantly cut back on outstanding
loans, and businesses plans for major investment projects are being scaled back. These capital losses
are resulting in financial institutions going bankrupt or merging with stronger banks. Financial
services companies have cut more than one hundred thousand jobs this year and deeper layoffs may
come (Berenson, 2008). Even while cutting back on long term loans seems to be unbearable, short
term loans pose a greater threat to the survival of the financial system. The fourth and final threat
facing our economy is the necessity of short term loans. In an effort to reestablish tangible capital,
banks are beginning to cut back on short term loans. If the short term commercial paper and money
markets were to break down, the economy could go into a severe collapse because solvent and
profitable businesses would be unable to attract working capital (Sachs, 2008). This kind of collapse
in financial liquidity is the basic reason why the United States economy fell by around twenty five
percent during the Great Depression (Sachs, 2008). Already, some of the biggest names on Wall Street
have disappeared into thin air. Some attempts have been made to bring liquidity back to financial
institutions. In an effort to avoid an

The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century
The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal
welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural
theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should
hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas,
the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address
traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to
enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28).
The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull
baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort. In 1822, Colonel Richard Martin
succeeded in passing a bill to prevent cruelty to livestock (later amended to include ... Show more

She was not only an animal welfare advocate, but also a writer and a suffragist. In 1875, Cobbe
established the National Anti Vivisection Society (NAVS), which combatted medical establishments
and their methods for experimentation, influencing future research methods and animal testing. A year
later, the Cruelty to Animals Act was passed, establishing England s first attempt to regulate
experimentation of animals (Guerrini, 90). In the midst of the anti vivisection legislation, Anna Sewell
published Black Beauty, an animal autobiography illustrating the conditions of a working horse in the
nineteenth century. Black Beauty exposes the treatment of animals during this time, including the
cruelty of accessories such as the bearing rein, a strap restraining the horse s neck, causing damage
and pain. Sewell s novel raised enough public outcries to have the bearing rein abolished in England,
and spark anti cruelty legislation in

  • 2. Research Paper On Pyrrolo 5.1. Introduction to Pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline The chemistry of fused nitrogen heterocycles is very important because of their occurrence in numerous natural products and their versatile applications in the pharmaceutical industry and materials science 1. Among various synthetic approaches for fused nitrogen heterocycles, pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinolines and their oxidized and reduced forms are widespread among natural products and biologically active pharmaceuticals 2. Moreover, the skeleton of pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline exists in many biologically active natural alkaloids such as gephyrotoxin (Fig. 5.1), which is a substituted perhydropyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline that was isolated by Daly and co workers in 1977 from secretions of the frog Dendrobates histrionics 3 Moreover, the isolation of gephyrotoxin a natural alkaloid with pyrrolo[1,2a]quinoline skeleton, which was subjected to numerous studies to investigate its biological activity and has been a target for total synthesis 4. Scheme 1. A few examples of pyrrolo[1,2 a]quinoline containing natural products and pharmaceuticals. According to the survey, only in United Kingdom, car crashes got the live of 3100 people and more (Pettinger). The total economic cost of the car accident death is predicted as about 1 million including money spend on police and hospitals. If speed cameras were used more often, it would have save many people s life. According to the data, in 2002, 3431 were dead because of the car accident and more than 33 percent of the deaths were happened because of the over speed. The Association of Chief Police Officers says that the most affectable factor to the car incident is speed, which is over drink driving or drug driving. Another positive effect of speed camera is that it is benefit to the environment. Basically, lower speed will make lower fuel consumption and this helps to decrease carbon emissions and also global warming. • 6. Bowling For Columbine Documentary Essay Documentary reflection The assignment task for Term two was for a small group of people (three), to create a documentary and then each person to write a reflection. Before starting this documentary, we studied the history and development of documentaries. We then looked more into how different documentaries, Spellbound (objective) and Bowling for Columbine (subjective), how each separate style was created and made and how each different style affected people. We ran into conflict when we were choosing what topic for our documentary. We all had many ideas but most of them we had to rule out because they would not be suitable for Year 5 and 6. The target audience only left us a few ideas. This is because when we first started off thinking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We added some funny videos to please the target audience. We interviewed most of or interviewees in a classroom. The reason why we choose this area is that because when a student is at school, they are constantly in a classroom. So soon enough many feel more comfortable in a classroom than other places. We interviewed some grade tens were their bags are. We assumed they would be more honest if they were interviewed somewhere that was familiar and in a sense comforting because if they feel comfortable, they would normally be more truthful. We chose to do a mid shot because when most people are nervous, they tend to move their feet and we didn t want to show them nervous to be interviewed. We also used different camera angles to show different people. Some were smaller, so we lowered the angle and where the camera was positioned. From watching Bowling for Columbine and Spellbound , we decided to choose a subjective documentary because we were all more interested in Bowling for Columbine than Spellbound . When editing we looked at what Bowling for Columbine did with editing things together and things out to get what our point across more affected. When working in a group, we found it hard to balance out the roles, but I think we did. I was the editor and camera person which is a great duo because I imagined what I wanted to do with the filming and just had to ask ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Leadership Approach Paper – Behavioral Approach Leadership Approach Paper Organizations depend on the management and leadership skills of individuals in order to be successful. Leaders do not have to be managers but are equally important. Leaders are individuals who possess traits, behavior and abilities to influence others to accomplish tasks and other needed objectives for the company. Leadership is defined as the ability of an individual to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organization. . . . (House et al., 1999, pg. 184). According to Yuki, G. (2010) there are five different leadership approaches that are being researched. These five approaches are: 1. Trait approach 2. Behavior approach 3. Power influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a not an easy task to change behavior, especially if a person is not interested in change. This is approach seems to best fit my personal leadership approach. Looking back at my previous employment as a financial associate at Boone County National Bank, I can relate to the definition of the behavioral approach. I was always concerned about given tasks and people. My behavior influenced others to follow and start behaving the same way I did. A great example is the way I used to deal with my customers. I was friendly, concerned with their business and ensured that they were well taken care of. By being concerned and open minded, I completed sales and other branch needed tasks without pushing or forcing myself on someone. With a combination of traits and behavior me and my colleagues made a great team and were able to complete all tasks on time, efficiently and effectively as well as satisfy all of our customers and managers. Looking back over the accomplishments of the branch I worked in as well as my personal accomplishments, I feel proud of what I have helped accomplish. Conclusion Understanding the difference between effective management and effective leadership is important. Leaders are not always born leaders; they can be formed into leaders if that is what they want. All five leadership approaches combined would form the perfect leader but each individual has special traits and behaviors that can make one into a leader. The behavioral ... • 8. ADHD, Ritalin, Families, and Pharmaceutical Companies Essay ADHD, Ritalin, Families, and Pharmaceutical Companies In today s fast paced society, it seems that prescription drugs are a more reasonable and reliable solution for children and adults than diet and exercise for the disease known as ADHD. Rather than take the time to play with their children, or institute a proper diet, it seems that increasing numbers of parents would rather treat their children s unexplained zest for life with pills and doctors. While there are some explanations and reasons for the diagnosis of this popular disease, most children are improperly diagnosed, and are therefore taking unneeded medication. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (2004) signs of ADHD become noticeable in children during their preschool and early years of school. It is estimated that 3 to 5 percent of children have ADHD, which is roughly about 2 million children in the United States. This means that 1 child out of a classroom that has 25 30 students in it will have ADHD. The NIMH (2004) has stated this in their article on ADHD that Dr. Heinrich Hoffman first described it in 1845. He was a physician who wrote books on medicine and psychiatry, he also wrote books for children. He described the disease in a book he was writing to his son, he wrote The Story of Fidgety Phillip which described a little boy with the exact symptoms of what would be known today as ADHD. It was not until 1902 that Sir George F. Still published a lecture to the Royal College of Physicians in London about impulsive children with behavioral problems that he stated were caused by a genetic dysfunction and not by poor education. Since then many studies have been done on the cause, symptoms, and treatment of ADHD. There is no real evidence of what causes ADHD. There have been many theories and hypothesis on the subject but no real concrete evidence of what causes the disease or how to prevent it. • 9. The Complicated Relationship Between The Black And White... The Complicated Relationship between the Black and White Americans Amiri Baraka s play the Dutchman is a portrayal about the interactions between the two major characters Lula and Clay. The two came from different races, whereas Clay is a twenty year old African American, while Lula on her thirties is a white woman. It all started when Lula had the courage to approach Clay, accusing the latter intent of staring from the window of a train. In their conversation, it demonstrates how Lula was trying to manipulate the situation, depicting the relationship between the two races and the problem about stereotyping. In the play, Lula first appeared as a beautiful and attractive white woman with an apple at her hand (Baraka, 1). Somehow, if her character will be interpreted based on Biblical teaching, it appears that she is more like a temptress like Eve. Although, Lula only met Clay for the first time, but she acted like knowing everything about the latter. She even mocked and insulted Clay, especially with regards to his intellect and clothing. Through this portrayal, the Lula was trying to reveal her true nature as a rude individual, and there is no way Clay could approach her on the same footing. • 10. Symbolism In A Rose For Emily Symbolism is the use of an object or a word to represent an abstract idea. It s often used by writers to represent a hidden message or a hint in a story. The short Stories A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner and Everyday Use by Alice Walker are great examples of the use of symbolism. In A Rose for Emily Faulkner uses symbolism to create a Story about a woman called Emily whose life is surrounded by mysteries, especially after the death of her father and the disappearance of her beloved Homer. Falkner uses symbolism to hide several messages through the Story which, in my opinion, sounds very morbid as things happen. Emily grows older and has a sort of tragic and serene (227) appearance. Her obsession of keep the same life style she used to have when her father was alive makes Emily set her own rules in Town. She wants to keep a verbal agreement her father had excusing her from paying taxes, refuses the modernization on mail, and keeps her old fashioned world inside of her house while the world outside is changing. Emily tries to keep the same status of the high society group she used to belong. Her attempt to stay in the past represents the decline of this social group, the representation of an old society refusing the new, the modernization, the technology. The symbols help the author of A Rose for Emily address the message of we can t avoid the changes around us. The world is in constant changing and we have to follow it. In Every Day Use , Alice Walker also uses several symbols to transmit her message to the readers. In the book Animal Farm the last sentence is, The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which (Orwell, p.141). This quote is saying that the pigs are not human, but their greed is just like a human. In the book animal farm the pigs end up acting like humans at the end, which was one of the initial rules that humans are bad. They are taking their power into granted and acting like a human. Ancient Greek Lessons In ancient Greece, children learned their lessons through myths told to them, just like how children today often learn their lessons through the movies they watch and the stories they read. These lessons that children learned from myths weren t exactly the type of lessons we learn today. Today we learn to be kind to one another, follow the rules, be respectful, stay true to your friends, and a lot of other things like that. But back then, the main lessons were often more based around religious values, and were often more violent and exaggerated than the stories of today. • 13. My Antonia Nature Analysis In My Antonia , nature consistently presents hardships for characters to overcome and also brings forth inspiring beauty and life within the rural landscape of Nebraska. Throughout the novel, nature plays an important role in shaping the lives of Jim and Antonia. And through a deeper analysis of how nature causes growth in the lives of Jim and Antonia via both suffering and beauty, we are able to develop a better understanding of the role of nature in the novel as a whole. Throughout the novel, a naturalistic style of writing is evident not only in the vividly detailed depictions of the Nebraska frontier, but also by how the characters interact with the land in which they live. The common naturalist theme of man being controlled and at the mercy of nature appears many times throughout the novel, particularly in the chapters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jim connects with the nurturing power of the summer as he appealingly describes the environment he grew up in, burning summers when the world lies green and billowy beneath a brilliant sky, when one is fairly stifled in vegetation, in the color and smell of strong weeds and heavy harvests (Cather 3). Jim even dwells on the idea of the summer even during the winter, It was as if we were being punished for loving the loveliness of summer (Cather 136). And with these nostalgic and romanticized views of the moments in the kinder seasons in which nature in Nebraska is quiet pleasant, inspire Jim and are what keep him wanting to return. Even the literature he reads at college seems to poke at the fact that Jim longs to be back in Nebraska. This is specifically seen when he ironically begins to read an instructive poem from the Georgics, written by Virgil about farming, It opened with the melancholy reflection that, in the lives of mortals the best days are the first to flee (Cather ... • 14. Redistricting, The Process Of Adjusting States Redistricting, the process of adjusting states district lines to even the population among said districts, has transformed into a science. Depending on a state s population, a certain amount of agents represent that state in the House of Representatives. Well each representative has his or her own district in their home state. These districts then play a role in electing that specific representative to the House. This seems like a standard government function, but the Constitution does not specify any limits on how or by who the districts should be drawn. This process has been left to the state legislatures. The issue that we run into is that once placed in legislature hands, those in power have the ability to draw the congressional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, let s say we have two districts in the same state. District A contains 900,000 people compared to district B with 100,000. This means that the people in district A have about one eighth of the vote that the people in district B have. The supreme court ruled that this was unconstitutional, and now redistricting requires districts to be equivalent based on population. This was one of some court cases that has constricted states when dealing with redistricting, but states still have a lot of wiggle room. As long as they follow strict population equality and do not dilute the votes of ethnic minorities, the states are in the clear. The subject at hand here is not about the legality of gerrymandering, but whether or not the redistricting process should be nonpartisan. I believe that the current redistricting process is unfair and illogical, and that the process should be nonpartisan to take the partisan politics out of the process, create more competitive elections, correct this flaw in the democratic process, and relieve some gridlock that redistricting produces. The United States of America has been built on a democratic foundation to protect and serve we the people. The current government has two main parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, and they will stop at nothing to maintain their positions within the government. • 15. The Veldt By Ray Bradbury Analysis Competing, as humans we compete so much throughout our lives, it s what makes us human. We even try so hard that we distance ourselves from others. Ray Bradbury shows us in his two stories, The Veldt and Marionettes, Inc. that there is something we can t contend with; technology. In these stories the author shows us a world where people are distant because of and can t compete with technology. In Ray Bradbury s short story The Veldt he shows us a family that is so distant from each other because of technology. The Hadley family lives in a Happylife Home that does everything for them and the children depend on their nursery that has raised them their entire lives. Mr. David McClean comments to Mr. Hadley, You ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your children s affections. This room is their mother and father, far more important in their lives than real parents ( The Veldt 10). Children Wendy and Peter live in their own personal bubble because they don t have to rely on their parents for anything. The children rely so much on their nursery that it has replaced and made them so distant from their own parents. Technology has become the children s parents; their role model. The Impact Of Macro Forces On The Sportswear Industry The sportswear industry provides clothing, including footwear, worn for sport or physical exercise and has now evolved as casual fashion clothing more than athletic wear. In this report I will be talking about Kotler s macro forces and their effect on the sportswear industry. I will also be comparing two organizations from the industry and evaluating the similarities and differences between them. Macro environment or macro forces consists of the larger societal factors that have the potential to affect an organization s strategies. In the sportswear industry, technological factors could cause unemployment as machines replace workers. It could, however, reduce cost as more products can be made at a lower cost and lesser amount of time compared to labor made garments. Moreover, technology can benefit the sportswear marketers as a form of market research as social media and internet has outrageously developed over the past decade. • 17. Marine Mammal Bycatch Essay Throughout the years, marine mammal bycatch has continued to be a growing concern due to a steady increase in mammal mortality rates. Mike Gaworecki mentions in his article that during this past month the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration initiated a rule limiting seafood imports from different countries that do not meet the United States new bycatch standards. Bycatch is a term that means catching unwanted species when intending to fish for a different type of species. On a daily basis multiple dolphins, whales, and other unwanted animals are being captured because of inappropriate or ill suited forms of netting and traps. By implementing this rule the United States government hopes to prevent and reduce future cases of inappropriate capture. NOAA claims that they feel this is necessary because they want to enforce more restrictions on fishery related marine mammal deaths, while influencing other countries to improve on their fishing methods. The reason for this sudden ruling was because several conservation groups joined together to sue the American government for lack of improvement throughout the years on fishery imports from other countries. By losing this ruling, the United States government has been forced to change their standards in order to support a previous act they made in 1972, The Marine Mammal Protection Act. This act originally provided protection for all marine mammals and included their protection of population sustainability. Over the years, the government had failed to continue this protection with countries that they imported seafood supply from and thus led to stricter regulations. A key example used to demonstrate some effects the seafood imports had include the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stephen Crane s The Open Boat and Jack London s To Build A Fire Stephen Crane s short story, The Open Boat speaks directly to Jack London s own story, To Build A Fire in their applications of naturalism and views on humanity. Both writers are pessimistic in their views of humanity and are acutely aware of the natural world. The representations of their characters show humans who believe that they are strong and can ably survive, but these characters many times overestimate themselves which can lead to an understanding of their own mortality as they face down death. In To Build A Fire , the main conflict throughout is man versus nature although it would be inaccurate to say that nature goes out of its way to assault the man. The ... The Man s ego allowed him to think that he had everything under control, even though his fingers were numb from the cold. Eventually, survival becomes the primary focus of the Man, who is trying, in vain, to protect himself against the unforgiving force of nature. He fruitlessly tries to warm himself back up, which is a direct contrast to the complete indifference displayed by Yukon. The environment merely remains the same and does not care one way or another as to whether the man survives or not. Jack London also uses numbers to reinforce the harsh realities of the Yukon, such as how fifty degrees below zero is the marker for the danger zone. The use of numbers shows the desperation of the Man s situation and readers can slowly see his situation deteriorating further and further. Also, the idea of naturalism claims that the world is knowable only through objective science and that hard facts, such as temperature degrees, makes this particular world knowable and present some semblance of familiarity. We are to imagine aesthetic scenery where spring has arrived and everything that happens during this season is happening right in front of us. The speaker seems to appreciate nature so much that he sees the complete difference between the seasons and that he admires the birth of the natural world. The Animal Protection Movement Of The Nineteenth Century The animal protection movement of the nineteenth century was based on the concept of animal welfare; that is, the moral obligations required by human society. Such morals stem from natural theology, specifically, the Book of Nature, which proposes that humans, the superior beings, should hold dominion over animals, but have mercy, care, and stewardship toward them. From these ideas, the animal protection movement was formed with two responsibilities in mind: first, to address traditional moral concerns, such that an individual pledges to do no harm to animals; and second, to enforce the prevention of cruelty to animals inflicted by others (Fan, 10/28). The first anti cruelty bill was introduced to Parliament in England in 1800 in an attempt to end bull baiting; this initial legislation was the start of a long effort.
