How to perform a basic search finding literature on uKwazi 4. The citation (or reference) options available to you.
- 3. uKwazi online tutorial To access the uKwazi video, you need to click on How to use uKwazi.
- 4. Access to the Library’s e-Resources from Off- Campus • Please be advised that the website will automatically detect Off -Campus users and will thus prompt for your Username: student no. & Password: date of birth (yyyymmdd) OR passport no. when required. Please be advised that the site is optimised for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. • UWC website : http://www.uwc.ac.za • UWC Library website : http://lib.uwc.ac.za/
- 5. 3. How to perform a basic search for literature If you are looking for literature on a particular topic you might need to start off by using uKwazi (Library catalogue). uKwazi is a search engine that host the library’s books, subscribed databases as well as open access resources.
- 6. Perform a search by entering your keywords/phrases for example, environmental health and infection control in the search box and click on Search to obtain a list of books, journal articles, videos etc.
- 7. Once the list has been generated, you can Sign in to get complete results and to request items.
- 8. Login with UWC login details
- 9. The results list indicates what format the source is in. You can Tweak your Results on the left hand side. Choose limiters to narrow down results uKwazi allows you to limit to peer- previewed journals, Full text online as well as items available in the library
- 10. Scrolling down you can refine by a Resource Type by selecting books, articles, reviews, newspaper articles, and more
- 11. Ukwazi also allows you to further limit to Subject, Author/Creator, Year of publication, Databases, Journal title, location and more.
- 12. Select Held by Library for items available in the library.
- 13. Click on the Title of the book to display more information. Click Available at UWC Main Library to see if the item is available for check out.
- 14. Item availability on the shelf Click on the X to take you back to the results list
- 15. Selecting the Citation option shows the citation of the item. Select your preferred Reference style and copy & paste the citation information directly into your reference page.
- 16. Choose Reset filter to remove the previous limiters
- 17. Locate a journal article on the same topic by Limiting to Peer-Reviewed Journals
- 18. Click on the Title to display the details of the article OR Available Online to access the full text of the article
- 19. Choose one of the databases to view the full text of the article
- 20. Access the Full text of article
- 21. 4. Selecting the Citation option shows the citation of the item. Select your preferred Reference style and copy & paste the citation information directly into your reference page.
