The Battle Of The St. Lawrence Seaway
The Battle of the St. Lawrence Seaway refers to the attacks on Allied shipping in the Gulf of the
St. Lawrence from 1942 through to the end of the shipping season in 1944 . German submarines,
commonly called U boats, entered into these Canadian waters to hinder and delay Allied supplies
from reaching Britain across the Atlantic . However, Allied convoys still made voyages to Britain
and back, constantly supplying them with goods. Sailing across the middle of the Atlantic itself
was considered far more dangerous than just leaving the Canadian ports. Therefore, through
examining Germany s intent for entering the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, effect on Allied shipping,
and subsequent response by the Allies with respect to the attacks, it can be shown that U boats
entering into Canadian waters had very little impact on impeding Allied shipping. Allied shipping
from North America to Britain needed to supply at least a million tonnes of goods to allow Britain
to survive and fight against the Axis . Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Britain for the duration
of the Second World War, called the Battle of the Atlantic the [most] dominating factor all through
the war. Never for one moment could we forget that everything happening elsewhere, on land, at
sea or in the air depended ultimately on its outcome . Therefore, whoever held the upper hand in
the Battle of the Atlantic held the advantage in supplies for the war. Germany decided to employ
their U boats to try to delay and strike

Disillusionment In Frankenstein
Contemporary literature reflects on contemporary life and culture. It is sometimes reflected by a
persons disillusionment. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley love glorified nature, dreams
and visions, the power of the individual, and one s emotions and feelings about something. In Mary
Shelley s Frankenstein, the character of the creature discovers a lack of love and passion within
Victor toward him which represents that man s need to inspire love causes him to become evil. In
regards to the character of Victor Frankenstein, he show his love for science. Shelley portrays love
as a contemporary monster.
Love is seen through the novel, while there are many events that influence the choices of

His need to demand a creature of another sex so that he can dig in dreams of bliss that cannot be

feature of his character (Shelley). Therefore, the monster s desire for Victor to make another
creature to be his significant other represents the monster s want for love, which for a time
overrides his desire for revenge. Interestingly, the monster s desire is important when one considers
that Frankenstein features non traditional case of love. By having the monster beg for a companion
that will encircle the traditional aspects of a human relationship comparable to the period of the
book, Shelley adds to the psychological makeup of the monster. This is because regardless of his
non human nature, the monster desire to have a functional relationship in the novel that contains

Green Fluorescent Protein Lab Report
1.The technique that allows scientists to follow with their own eyes the dynamic movements of
specific proteins as they occur within the living cell is the green fluorescent protein. This is a
protein that is extracted from only a few jellyfish. This diffuses a green fluorescent colored light.
The green fluorescent protein can be blended to the protein and can work normally and so does the
protein itself that it is binded to. The protein is not affected and can be moved and transported
throughout the cell and can then be seen.

role in the evolution of life in earth is that RNA is able to encrypt information and is able to
assemble chemical reactions. Before ribozymes were discovered, proteins were only able to
catalyze and only nucleic acids encrypted information. Obviously, RNA can do both and since the
discovery of it, many scientists now believe RNA played an important role in the evolution of life.

Essay on Communism and Socialism in George Orwell s Animal...
Communism and socialism in animal farn
Communism and socialism plays an important role in Animal Farm by George Orwell. All of the
events that occurred in the book represent actual events that happened to a communist country, now
known as Russia. Both communism and socialism have similar beliefs but still have their
differences. There has never been a communist society where people were happy and treated as
equals to high ranking government officials. There has been a time in Animal Farm when all
animals were treated equal, but that was only in the start of the post revolution. In the end of the
book however, there is a different story. The motif of the book is that any attempt to achieve the
goals of a communist and socialist society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pigs were without a doubt the leaders of Animal Farm. They could do anything to you, they
could make you live and could make you die. The socialist system is that the production and
distribution of products is maintained by the community. In Animal Farm , the animals were put
in even more smaller communities by species. There was groups made during the early post
revolution like the Egg Production Committee, the Clean Tails League and the Whiter Wool
Movement. Also all political actions are done by the community. There was the Meeting every
Sunday where all the animals met in the barn. What they did in the barn was they planned what
to do next week and also debate resolutions. The resolutions were put by pigs who were the only
ones with the ability to make them. Soon Napoleon and Snowball were debating against each
other and were trying to get majority for themselves. All the other animals couldn amp;#8217;t
think up of anything for themselves but both of the pigs were throwing many at them. They soon
got out of their Socialist ways and started to become closer to communism. An example of the
complete end of Socialism in Animal Farm was when Napoleon ordered the hens to lay a certain
amount of eggs. The hens refused to do so but was forced to which is definitely not socialistic. It
isn amp;#8217;t socialistic because the production of products is maintained by the community and

Decision Making Of The Petroleum Industry
Decision Making As anything there is always a decision having to be made, but in the petroleum
industry, decision making can be very convoluted. Reason being is because in the past couple of
years a considerable amount of approaches to fix things have arisen. Said by Review, The
difference between a good decision and a bad one can be the difference between success and
disaster, profit and loss, or even life and death. Before making any critical choices always be
sure to have a strategic plan that will follow though to the best end result. As some observations
have shown, is that the choice of oil and gas relates to prices as well as cash flow in this industry.
A key factor for companies is strategically making wise choices on what oil, gas and companies
to make investments in. To begin with, the most essential part of decision making process is to
be fully aware of what is being agreed upon. Weather it be investments or selling crude oil to
another company, the research before any decisions is a very crucial. First, set up a performance
target that is realistic and always stick to it. Set up team meetings and always be sure to have
everyone on board and have agreements within the company. Next would be to follow through
with the decision you are aiming to achieve. It is also very important to stay up to date with the
choice you have chosen to not fall behind on any new technology that can also benefit yourself or

system disorder that is characterized by progressive muscle wasting and weakness. Symptoms
include; myotonia (prolonged muscle contractions), the inability to relax certain muscles after
use, slurred speech, temporary locking of jaw, cataracts, abnormalities of the electrical signals
that control the heartbeat, and early balding and infertility in men. There are two major types of
myotonic dystrophy, type 1 and type 2. Many of the symptoms are overlapping, the only
differences are type 1 is generally more severe than type 2 and type 1 affects the lower legs, hands,

This protein may play a role in the communication within cells, especially those of the heart, brain
and skeletal muscles. It is believed that the protein is involved in the communication between cells
and regulates the production and function of important structures inside muscles cells by
interacting with other proteins. The DMPK gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 19 at
position 13.3. It is between base pairs 45,769,708 and 45,782,556 making it 12848 base pairs long.
It consists of a trinucleotide repeat of the nucleotide sequence CTG. Meaning that the nucleotides
CTG are repeated multiple times. In a normal DMPK protein the number of CTG repeats ranges
from 5 34. The mutation that causes myotonic dystrophy is known as trinucleotide repeat
expansion, meaning it increases the number of times CTG is repeated in the gene. People with
myotonic dystrophy can have 50 to 50,000 repeats, the more repeats an individual has the worse
their symptoms are. The increased number of repeats produces an expanded version of mRNA,
which then forms clumps inside the cell that interfere with the production of many other proteins.
These clumps prevent muscle cells and cells in other tissues from functioning

Procedure Of The Bernoulli s Theorem Apparatus
Procedure Experimental set up The Bernoulli s theorem apparatus is set up on the hydraulic
bench so that its base is horizontal for accurate height measurements from the manometer. The
rig outflow tube is positioned above the volumetric tank. The rig inlet is then connected to the
bench flow supply followed by closing the bench and the apparatus flow control valve. The
pump is then started. The bench valve is gradually opened to fill the test rig with water. The
bench valve and rig flow control valve are closed in order to bleed air from pressure tapping
points and manometers. Then, the air bleed screw is opened and the cap from the adjacent air
valve are removed. A length of small bore tubing from the air valve to volumetric tank is
connected. The bench valve is then opened and allowed to flow through the manometers to
eliminate all air from them. After that, the air bleed screw is tightened and bench valve and test
rig flow control valve are partly opened. The air bleed screw is opened to allow air to enter the
top of the manometers. Lastly, the screw is re tightened when the manometer levels reach a
convenient height. Experimental procedure to obtain results Pump is turned on and bpth the
control valve on hydraulic bench and the venturi tube are adjusted so the tube is filled up with
water. Using the valve on the manifold at the top of the manometer, the air bubbles are bleed off.

Compare and Contrast Tumor Suppressor Genes and...
Compare and contrast tumour suppressor genes and proto oncogenes. Discuss an example of how
recent advances in our understanding of these genes have led to the development of a novel therapy
that is being used in the treatment of human cancer.
Cancer known in medicine as a malignant neoplasm is one of the biggest killers worldwide. In
2007, cancer caused roughly 13% (7.9 million) of the planet s deaths (Jemal, 2011). This will
more greatly affect an aging society such as ours in years to come, and yet it is already the
foremost cause of death in the developed world. The main reason cancer causes so many fatalities

Mutations (for most cancers) must appear in both tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes for
cancers to form. The tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes act in complementary fashion to one
another; one pulls forward, and the other pushes back ensuring that the cell cycle occurs in a
controlled manner (Sherr, 2004).
Oncogenes were discovered in the 1960s, when it was discovered that some animal cancers such
as lymphomas were caused by viruses. Some of these viruses were notable due to the simplicity
of their RNA genome. These viruses only had three distinct transcription units, involved in the
replication of the virus (coat proteins and reverse transcriptase etc.), and an extra gene. This was
an oncogene. When oncogenes are properly functioning they are termed proto oncogenes (Todd
R, 1999). Their normal function is to control cell proliferation. These function in growth
signalling pathways, and conversely to tumour suppressing cells are activated through a gain in
function rather than a loss of it. This occurs in two ways, by producing more of a product, or
producing a subtly different product, as a result of a mutation similar to tumour suppressor genes
(Croce, 2008). Oncogenes play a particularly strong role in the development of breast cancers.
Often the normal ERBB2 and other related genes are amplified in late stage neuroblastomas and
rhabdomyosarcomas. ERBB2 encodes HER2 which is a member of the epidermal growth factor

is experiencing her last connection to the human world where she states I m only half here. I m

fact that since she is a sum of her actions she is indeed fully wicked but, it is also in her refusal to

He later is attempting to convince Inez that he is not a coward and states Can one possibly be a
coward when one s deliberately courted danger at every turn? And can one judge a life by a
single action. (No Exit 43). If it were the case that this was the only time Garcin were acting like
a coward it may not be possible to fully judge him based upon one action but, Inez points out that
For thirty years you dreamt you were a hero and condoned a thousand petty lapses. (No Exit 43).
Inez is arguing that Garcin has always been lying to himself and has been dreaming that he was
a hero but, has actually just been self deceiving himself whenever he did something cowardly
which she points out by saying he condoned a thousand petty lapses which is referring to perhaps
smaller cowardly acts that he has done throughout his life that he refused to accept as indicating
he was a coward. Then even past that she states Then a day came when you were up against it,
the red light of real danger and you took the train to Mexico. (No Exit 43) Inez perfectly points
out how Garcin has always been acting in bad faith up until the last actions he ever took. By
denying the fact that he is a coward and not the hero he attempts to paint himself as it reveals
that Garcin lived a life full of inauthenticity since he has never accepted the fact that he is a
coward because his actions are that of a coward. Garcin then tries defending himself one last
time against Inez as he argues I died to soon. I wasn t allowed time to to do my deeds. (No Exit
43) he is attempting to blame the fact that he died too soon as the reason he was never able to act
as the hero he tries to show himself as. This argument is directly counteracted by existentialism
which is pointed out by Inez when she says One always dies too soon... And yet one s life is

This paper can analyze the context within which the work of art, Death on the Pale Horse was

Two copies of the painting, each of that are exhibited and reproduced as authentic works by

California s Gas Prices Overpriced
California s Gas Prices Overpriced California since the gold rush has been known as the Golden
State where it s flooded with multicultural richness from the beaches to the mountains. California
today is the most densely populated state with 38.8 million residents and is still rising, however,
not only is the population ever increasing so are gas prices. Allysia Finley an editorial writer
from The Wall Street Journal states, The national average is $2.76 a gallon, while the Golden
State drivers pay $3.88. Eco virtue is expensive (Finley 1). Gas prices in Californiahas left an effect
of overpriced due to many contributing factors: regulation over the environment, overconsumption,
and how rational people think at the margin.

However, mostly these regulations have affect only those small refineries drastically to the point of
a shut down and let only the big and powerful industrial companies take over and collect more
profit. Jennifer L. Brown author of The Market Effects of Going Green states, Additionally, trends
in industry concentrations during the time period reformulated gasoline regulation compliance
appear to have favored large refiners as small refiner market share decreased and industry
concentration increased simultaneously from 1997 to 1999 (Brown 126). Meaning that
regulations in California can be visible from the 90 s and have slowly increased, yet unnoticed to
the public until now. While these large corporations have slowly eliminated its small rivals and
maintain more of the power of the market in gasoline. Which later can have an effect of market
failure.
Multiple solutions to California s problem have a rise in order to prevent a long run effect or a
market failure. For instance, Tom Steyer a billionaire environmentalist has proposed an oil
extraction tax. However, adding another tax can lead into two directions. First, if it becomes a
corrective tax to corporations it can correct their actions, and take account of the social cost. Which
leads to low prices for consumers, and at the same time protect the environment because the seller
will have the incentive to reduce low pollution. Or it can create

Extreme Measure Comes With Extreme Percaution Essay
Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of
deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. We have taken the necessary security precautions and are
prepared to do whatever is necessary to protect America and Americans. President George W. Bush
On September 11, 2001, terrorists initiated multiple attacks on America that took the lives of
nearly three thousand innocent people. It was a day of destruction and horror that will be branded
in the minds of many for a long time. The tragedies on 9/11 could have been avoided if airport

late for the flight the airport attendants were willing to lend a helping hand. As the struggling
mother and children hurry to the ticket counter the airport personnel help with her bags, quickly
check her in, and ask as no questions. The attendant moves her to the front of the line, grabs her
bag and the baby carrier, and carries them through for her. Nothing is said about the nail file or the

Those days of helping a mother with two children are long gone. Instead, the government has
attempted to add procedures to airport security that supposedly provides more protection for
Americans. In her essay, Zeltser discusses how people are now examined with a fine tooth comb.

Trials And Tribulations In Mental Health
It has been noted by many that it is important for us to understand that the present is directly
influenced by the past and it will directly influence the future. If we are to ignore the events that
have led us to where we are then we are destined to repeat our often tragic and ill fated past. We
also have no way of truly making a difference in the field of mental health if we are unable to
build upon both the successes and the failures of those who have come before us (Gerig, 2014).
This paper examines some of the literature written to detail the trials and tribulations in the mental
health field from the early Greek times to presentday in the hopes of gaining some perspective on

Jung developed intricate theories surrounding the collective unconscious and archetypes or

combined to directly influence human personality. These theories incorporated an aspect of culture,

Many other highly notable influences on mental health and wellness exist and deserve great respect

Utopia By Thomas Moore s Utopia
Thomas Moore s Utopia appears to be a perfect society where everyone is treated fairly and
equally. However, Utopia is not as egalitarian as it appears. This can be determined through the
implications about and restraints placed on women. The attitude toward women in Utopia may
have been seen as acceptable in 1516, but in contrast with today s standards this approach in the
book towards women is misogynistic and oppressive. In Utopia, values are critical to the
preservation of peace in society. Yet, these values do not include fair and proper treatment of every
individual. Utopia appears to be a land of no persecution but women still suffer and are harassed
through the societal standards pressed upon them as a condition of their sex. While the land of
Utopia at first appears to give more rights to women than many countries did at the time, it becomes
evident that the treatment of women and their rights are not representative of the supposed
egalitarian principles applauded in the novel.
There are multiple cases in Utopia where conflict is evident between the treatment of men and the
treatment of women. There are many moments in Utopia when it appears that the women are equal
to men, only to turn around and suggest they are not. One of these examples is when Raphael
Hythloday is discussing the terms and conditions of marriage, or rather, conditions prior to even the
engagement. He says that Whether she is a widow or a virgin, the women is shown naked to the

Brave New World Article Analysis
A Brave New World is a world in which people try to create their own Utopia (a perfect place to
leave) but they try to do this by creating humans and training them when they are children to stop
thinking, feeling and only achieve society s goals. They are divided by castes: alpha, betas,
gammas, delta and epsilons. I chose to write a newspaper article because I think that they try to
achieve their perfect place in a wrong way by using somaas a drug of happiness and relaxation. In
my work, I am a writer of the London Telegraph who makes an article about that drug and their
effects in the castes, also it says how they are going to solve their problems. This work is written
in a formal, serious and informative tone, in order to avoid affecting the population s general point
of view about the topic. The purpose of the newspaper is to inform people about what is happening
in the world state, the castes and what are the possible consequences of this occurrence. This
article describes the effects of the drug soma and their purpose on using it in their social castes.
The target audience is general public, which have to know about these problems and the
changes in the creating human s industry in London. London telegraph Is soma still a safe
option to control the castes? Last week, several cases have been presented where certain
individuals of the castes were affected apparently provoked by a malfunction of the soma (drug
that is used to calm them) provoking a negative reaction in the individuals. Recently a group of
Alphas said they felt bad and very stressed with their work. In the case of gammas that are a little
more primitive the soma does not act as a sedative, on the contrary, it is acting as a stimulant that
leads to insanity and very severe anger attacks. According to the institute in charge of developing
and creating humans this can be due to an alteration of the soma or a side effectwith the new borne
individuals. The scientists do not know with certainty if that is what can be provoking it, but
surely this means a decrease in the yield of these two varieties, which can lead the world state to
great difficulties since everything is supposed to be perfect for the creation of the ideal metropolis,
a utopia

Ants With Your Order Today
Ants with Your Order Today, Sir? The majority of people in this country would dream of
working in an ice cream shop and sweeping rainbow sprinkles off the floor everyday; I had
accomplished this aspiration. I found my way into the ice cream business as a lowly sophomore
and stayed there until I was a senior, three seasons. By ice cream standards, this means I am an
experienced veteran and can make a perfect soft serve swirl with my eyes closed. This particular
ice cream shop was filled with only girl employees and was mainly a high school position; you
may be thinking my boss is a pedophile, but he s not. As a senior, one has to show others that she
is maturing and put on a leadershiprole to convince onlookers that she is almost at a functioning
adult level. I had always loved my job, but this past summer I stepped in the leadership role in a
way that I never had before; I had to confront my boss with a serious problem. Before I jump to
far ahead, it is important to note that I was quickly becoming a head girl within the
establishment. Many older girls were leaving, and younger girls were filling the gaps. I became
accustomed to orienting new employees that my boss didn t have time for. It was a new challenge
for me and demanded all my patience, which happens to be one of my faults. The accumulation of
duties were moments of obligation in themselves, yet I consider the climax of these moments to

This quote helps show Mr. Clutter s love for church and following God and so that is probably
why people were so worried when they did not show up for church on the Sunday morning after

Taking a Look at Hinduism
Many religions offer an exact path to the afterlife; illuminated by various rules and regulations that
one must follow to reach enlightenment. Hinduism, on the other hand, is much more complex,
offering multiple ways to achieve moksha and providing many answers to the ancient question of
what happens after we die? Many people think that Hindus believe in many deities, but the Hindu
concept of Godis much broader than that. In fact, Hinduismitself encompasses much more than just
one specific set of religious beliefs. While some Hindus believe that God is a divine being with
certain identifiable attributes, others believe that God cannot be defined and is an all pervading
being that extends beyond everything. Although some beliefs differ, the majority of Hindus see
the concept of God in multiple ways. Among these are the concepts of God as one and many,
God and the soul, God as sound, God as image, God in nature, cows, and avatara. One of
Hinduism s most distinguishing features is the concept of multiple gods. These multiple gods are
manifestations of the various powers of the divine. Hindus believe that the all pervasive God is
both one and many. Because this concept carries the idea of God as an omnipresent being,
everything can be seen as being God s form. Hindus worship many Gods, but they also believe that
the divine is singular or one. These Gods are representations of different aspects of the overall God.
Although their worship of multiple

Summary Of The Banking Concept Of Education By Paulo Freire
Paulo Freire is an author who poses questions and arguments that challenge everything that his
readers think and know. The Banking Concept of Education from Pedagogy of the Oppressed poses
the question about the education system and how teachers are narrators and students are recorders.
In his essay he discusses how the students who he refers to as containers receive their information
from teachers. However, the teachers never communicate with their subordinates. The idea of
banking suggests that students are only receiving, memorizing and receiving facts from the
depositor which made the students depositories. The main ideas drawn from this article are related
to education, knowledge and communication.

The Constitution Holds Great Credit
The constitution holds great credit even after two hundred and twenty eight years of existence.
Why? This is because of a number of reasons, first due to the fact that this document is the

Even the country shut down production of consumer goods to meet the needs of the war. The
changes brought about an increase in industrial production. The labor force significantly
increased. Almost a third of the country had a disposable income for the first time, a drastic

goal simply became developing an economy capable of providing an adequate livelihood to all
its citizens, the American Dream . The 1940 s marks the rise of suburbs and the ideal good life
or American Dream as many veterans returned home and purchased houses. In the late 1940 s

The Development Of Engineers Without Borders
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Engineers without Borders aims to provide those living in poverty a higher standard of living
through initiatives specifically engineered for their regions. One such project designed by
Engineers without Borders is the Bambui initiative. Bambui, a village located in the North West
Region of Central Africa s Cameroon contains a small portion of Cameroon s total population of
22.25 million people. Bambui, with a population of 50,000 people and its poor standard of living
proves to be an obstacle. Due to the lack of infrastructure and urban planning of the markets which
provide the village with much needed income, Engineers without Borders aims to improve the area
by addressing these current problems with solutions.
2.0 PROBLEM DEFINITION
The market of Bambui is one of the largest and most important aspects of the region, providing a
source of income to the local community as well as the surrounding population who sell clothes,
shoes and raw foods as well as food stalls and restaurants. The pollution identified throughout the
markets comes mainly from the inability for them to dispose of waste properly due to lack of
transportation in and out of the market, and also the sprawl of stalls. The accessibility of owners
and locals through the market comes as a struggle and therefore require a plan in which would
assist owners to receive their transported goods and also dispose of waste that was not sold
throughout the day.

My Hero As A Hero
Growing up we all have our heroes, and I was no different. I grew up in a family who loved
superheroes and all things nerdy, so I was obviously exposed to that aspect of a hero at a young

So ever since I was very young I was surrounded by animals and was fascinated by anyone who
worked with them. Because of this the two most prominent heroes I remember from my
childhood were both complete opposites, but still inspired me and influenced my growing up and
even who I am today. The heroes of my childhood are no less my heroes now that I have grown

My cousins were obsessed with all things comic books, so of course (even with me being the
only girl in the family) the second I could read they began to lend me comics and as soon as my
parents allowed me to, they made me sit through a superhero movie marathon. They were always
obsessed with Superman, Thor, Spiderman, Batman and all the other very mainstream superheroes.
Which there is no problem with those heroes, I was just a little girl who wanted to see another
girl be a superhero, because I was sick of having to sit through all the guy superhero movies with
all my guy cousins. Which is why when I first heard of her, Batgirl quickly became my favorite
superhero. I don t remember when I first found out about her, but I remember how much I came to
admire her and how much I wanted to read every comic

A Groundbreaking Pilot And Inspirational Figure
A groundbreaking pilot and inspirational figure, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly
solo across the Atlantic Ocean and set many other records throughout her career. Her
disappearance in 1937 during an attempt to revolve the globe devastated admirers across the
United States and around the world. Her public career lasted less than a decade starting at 1928 and
ending in 1937. She used her fame to promote two causes dear to her: the advancement of
commercial aviation and the advancement of women. Earhart symbolizes the fascination that
aviation held for Americans in the 1920s and 1930s. Aviator Amelia Earhart
was born on July 24,
1897 in Atchison, Kansas. In 1923, Earhart, known as Lady Lindy, became the 16th woman to be...

Earhart came to know many of the wounded who were pilots. She developed a strong admiration
for aviators, spending much of her free time watching the Royal Flying Corps practicing at the
airfield nearby. In 1919, Earhart enrolled in medical studies at Columbia University. She quit a year
later to be with her parents, who had reunited in California.
Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a
challenge to others. Earhart was legally declared dead in 1939. Earhart s entire life had a certain
restless quality. By 1928, she had found a calling of sorts as a social worker in Boston who flew
in her spare time. When New York publisher George Palmer Putnam asked if she wanted to be
the first woman to fly the Atlantic, she agreed. June of 1928 Amelia flew from Newfoundland to
Burry Port, Wales, made her an instant celebrity, although she was quick to note that she had
been merely a passenger, a sack of potatoes, who kept the log. When she flew solo in the Atlantic
during 1932, another first for women, she proved to the world and, more important, to herself that
1928 had not been an accident. Amelia did not have many supporters in the beginning, during this
time women were not believed to have a role as such a pilot like Amelia did. After midnight, the
moon set, and I was alone with the stars. I have often said that the lure of flying is the lure of
beauty, and I

Running head: MACROECONOMIC IMPACT ON BUSINESS OPERATIONS
Macroeconomic Impact on Business Operations
University of PhoenixпїЅ
This paper will address the how the monetary policy has an impact on the factors of
macroeconomics, such as gross domestic product (GDP), interest rates, inflation, and
unemployment. According to the Federal Reserve, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve
System and the Federal Open Market Committee shall maintain long run growth of the monetary
and credit aggregates commensurate with the economy s long run potential to increase production,
so as to promote effectively the goals of maximum employment, stable prices, and moderate long
term interest rates. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other unpredictability that the Fed works with is the Money Multiplier; the factor by which
the Monetary Base will increase or decrease, for money that the Fed is releasing into or taking out
of the system. On the surface it may seem simple, it appears the Fed is trying to use the money
supply as a lever to keep the economy on the right track without de railing it. But on the contrary, it
takes complex analyses to find the balance between key macroeconomic variables in light of these
ever changing times. (Online Simulation)
_The Effects of Monetary Policy on the Economy_
Policy is implemented by raising and lowering the interest rate, affecting the demand for goods
and services from consumers and businesses alike. There are two types interest rates, real rate of
interest and the nominal rate of interest. According to McConnell and Brue, p.146, The real interest
rate is the percentage increase in purchasing power that the borrower pays the lender. The nominal
interest rate is the percentage increase in money that the borrower pays the lender, including that
resulting from the built in expectation of inflation, if any. The interest rate affects both consumers
and businesses demand for goods and services. The consumers demand is affected by changes in
real interest rates. If this rate is increased, it alters the costs of borrowing on credit, banks
availability to loan money, household incomes, and foreign exchange rates. If real interest rates are
lowered,

Effects Of Urbanization On Food Supply And Human Security
McKinney s book discusses homogenization as the main effect of urbanization, arguing that major
cities homogenize the physical environment in their attempt to meet the narrow needs of human
beings without regard for indigenous species.McKinney identifies key challenges such as human
disconnection from the natural environment which is a disadvantage of urbanization. The strength
of this source lies in its relevance as it will provide sufficient information for the research topic with
regard to the effects and disadvantages of urbanization.
This book focuses attention on the socio economic and environmental effects of rapid urbanization
and population growth in the developing countries with particular reference to Africa. This source
is useful as the author analyzes the magnitude and causes of urbanization and considers the impact
of rapid urbanization on climate change, phenomena whose spiral effect extends to the future
impact of global warming, health, food security and environmental change. As climatic and
environmental effects of urbanization are most visible in major urban cities, the author also
considers the implications of urbanization on food supply and human security.
This article briefly explains the history of urbanization and its transition over the past decades.
before critically analyzing four mainstream theories of urbanization, their pros and cons. The
authors take into account the micro and macro spiral effects of urbanizationon society by analyzing

The Class About Benedict Spinoza s Ethics
Riley Fichter
COMM 101, Sec. 33
October 7th, 2014
My goal is to inform the class about Benedict Spinoza s Ethics: Part One.
My central idea is how Spinoza s idea of God brings a new perspective on existence to those who
take the time to listen.
Spinoza s Ethics and You
I.Introduction
A.What is the truth behind the universe?
B.Many people have asked themselves this question over the course of history.
C.Today, however, I am going to focus in on one individual and explore his work around this
subject: Benedict de Spinoza.
D.Spinoza was a Dutch philosopher of the 17th century, and was considered a rationalist, or
someone who mainly uses reason in their pursuit of knowledge and understanding, and, especially
in Spinoza s case, applied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2.As a result, substances are also self caused, as no two substances can exist at the same time, nor
can a substance create another substance.
When something is created by something else, the original object s knowledge would depend and
be determined by its creator, and would thus be unable to be a substance, as it is now dependent.
3.Substances are characterized by their attributes, or what one s intellect perceives as a way of
defining that substance s essence
Attributes are not outright accurate ways of defining a substance, but instead act as way to
conceptualize a substance in many different ways.
4.Now that we can conceptualize a substance, we can now attempt to understand Spinoza s idea that
there is only one substance. (TRANSITION)
B.Spinoza argues that there can only be one substance.
1.We do not generally perceive substances, but we instead perceive modes.
Modes are things that depend upon something else for its existence, in this case a substance.
All things that exist within the universe are modes.
This means that you and I are modes of one substance, reflecting some of its infinite attributes.
2.The reason why we cannot perceive the one substance is because that one substance has and
infinite number of attributes, which express an infinite essence, and thus becomes the
encompassing everything. (air quotes)
3.The everything we perceive are the modes of the one substance, and thus shows how there

Is The Argument Of Academic Work Can Be Channeled Through...
The essays are related because Graff proposes the argument of academic work can be channeled
through personal interests. Peacocke s essay provides an example of Graff s argument because
she provides a remarkable piece of literature talking about the pros and cons of her favorite show
Family Guy. I really enjoyed how Peacocke used examples from very comical moments in Family
Guy like the Business instructional video in the 1950s that had some sexism on how to treat
women in the workplace. She showed the negative impacts of the show like the protests of parents,
but it was brought back two times after fans pressured Fox into reopening the show. Video games
are an interest of mine, which can be intellectual because of how they are made,... Show more

Then the animation and motion stage begins. The programmers then used advanced coding
technology to make the exoskeleton move in the background and it begins to come to life. Next is
the environment the game takes place. Details like a shimmering reflection off a window, or how
realistic water in a lake looks often goes unnoticed by the players, but it makes the game
environment look that much more impressive. 3 D objects are created by using polygons, which
are just like blank sheets of paper that are used to make creative ideas that come together.
Consoles and computers use a special chip that allows images to be applied on to the polygon.
Then this allows a 3 D environment to be created and interacted with the characters. The game is
then coded and the testing phase begins.
Coding is what puts all the gaming elements together to work as one. Games are written based on
C programming to generate the codes for the polygons to make the environment with the shadows
and textures. After the coding is complete, the testing phase begins by selecting a group of people
interested in the game to find bugs or problems in the games. The alpha version is the first version
released to fix the major flaws and the beta version is tested until the developers release the final
version. The marketing phase begins with the publisher spending money to advertise for games for
profit. Some methods include a

Emma s View Of Love
Emma Bovary allows herself to be destroyed by the people she encounters and her obsession
with falling in love. Emma is not happy with herself and her relationship so she looks for other
people to fill the void. Emma never really realizes that she is the root of all of the troubles in her
life. If she were more in touch with reality, she would realize that she needs to work on herself
before blaming her love interests for not being like the men that she has read about in the past.
Emma has a very unrealistic perception of love. Emma is unable to fall in love with anyone
because she will always be dissatisfied. She destroyed her own marriage before it even started
because of her preconceived idea of love. Charles is absolutely in love with Emma and would do
anything for her but she does not feel the same way about him due to her fairytale idea of love. It
seems as if she is not capable of separating her real life romances from the romance novels that she
read when during her time at the convent.
In Gustave Flaubert s novel, Madame Bovary, Emma Bovary is unknowingly a slave to her desires.
Emma is so infatuated with the thought of falling in love that it causes her to experience many
problems in every aspect of her life. For example, Emma is married to Charles Bovary, however,
she is not particularly in love with him. Most people get married because they are in love with each
other and want to spend the rest of their lives together. Nevertheless, the thought of spending the

The Identity Of The Arab Nations National Identity
Cultures in MENA are traditions, beliefs, and behaviors shaped by history, religion, ethnic
identity, language, and nationality . MENA consists of a mix of ethnic, language, and religious
groups. The diversity of these groups allow for cultures to co exist in the region. The family is
very import and the values that come from having strength in a solid extended family allows for
respect, honor, and loyalty. Religion plays a huge influence in the daily lives of the people in
MENA.
Language, culture, social, and political, economic interests, and a collective memory of their
place and role in history. The logic of nationhood is frequently being formed and reformed,
reflecting changing conditions and self conceptions; together these deny total separation as well as
complete incorporation in the way communities relate to one another is fortified by shared images
and origins (Barakat, Halim). The national identity of the Arab Nations national identity is said to
be focused on language. Albert Hourani stated in his most famous book, Arabic Thought in the
Liberal Age by Albert Hourani asserts that Arabic people are more focused on their language more
than any other peoples of the world. This theory is also stated by Jacques Berque, saying the East
is the home of the word the Arabic language does not really belong to the world of men; rather, it
seems to be lent to them, and that Arabic writing is more suggestive than informative.
The origin of Arab identity as relating

Anne Bradstreet Religion
Imagine waking up to a scream of terror, your room engulfed in flames, and smoke filling your
lungs as you choke coughing for air. Look deeper, and further imagine having a house full of
your own children scrambling to exit in time before the house burns and crumbles to ashes. This
is what Anne Bradstreet woke up too as she explained in Upon the Burning of the House on July
10th, 1666, as she stood and watched her house glow in a blaze of flames. Anne has many
concerns as her house has burned down, but she looks on the brighter side, the Puritan side, and
she knows that God has made her a house in heaven and that everything happens for a reason and
God has better things waiting for her than Anne had before the fire. She starts to show her... Show

All of her concerns are hidden in the story and you have to go deep to comprehend her feelings
in her writing. Anne believes everything happens for a reason because of God. Everything that
was on fire she did not actually own for herself, for everything she owned actually belonged to
God. So, she could not mourn and ache the lost because God had the right to take all of her
valued items away. Anne, having very religious beliefs, does not want to shame god by showing
her emotions. Although she had often questioned the strict concept of her judgmental God, as
God was Anne s almighty idol, she had never hesitated to trust the actual existence of her higher
being. Anne believes that she is a good enough Puritan that she has a special place in heaven
waiting for her when it is her time to go. She believes a heavenly place will be built for her on
permanent grounds and her house will consist of many expensive furnishings all financed by
God, for Anne does not know the actual value of these items, but she does not need to know that
as she does not even need expensive stuff now, in the real world, if all of it is waiting for her up in
heaven. All three of these concerns are her main concerns through her

How Physical Geography And How It Affected My Life
Physical geography has been broad subject that includes a lot of things occuring on Earth. I never
really thought about physical geography and its impact in my life until I took this course. Some
lessons coincided with topics from my other classes such as sea erosion and outgoing longwave
radiation. Other topics applied more to my life and somewhat affected my lifestyle. I think the
ones that made most of an impact was the tsunami warning lesson and the imbalances of outgoing
longwave radiation. A few times a month my cousin and I go to Santa Monica State Beach to work
out on the stairs. Just recently I noticed the signs that read Tsunami hazard zone. Coincidentally a
few weeks after we learned about tsunamis. I looked up where there were evacuation

In theory, it has been proved that futures and swaps can be equal to the combination of forwards.
(Hull J C, 1997)Generally, a foreign exchange settlement contract will be signed by banks and
their customers, which stipulates the type of foreign currency to be used, the sum, the exchange
rates and duration. On the due date when income or expenditure of foreign exchange occurs,
currency exchange settlement will be operated in accordance with the contract. In order to
improve efficiency, it s necessary to adjust the hedging when using forward contracts. (Brealey R,
Kaplanis E. 1995)When the interest rate fluctuates randomly, the forwards strategy can be divided
into three smaller parts: the Minimum Variance Hedging, Merton / Breeden Hedging and
speculation. (Briys E, Solnik B. 1992)When the interest rate is certain, there is no price difference
between futures contracts and forward contracts. Perfect hedge can be achieved, no matter what
type of hedging tools is used. However, the two is no longer able to replace each other when
interest rates move randomly, because of the existence of marking to market in futures market
operation. The above selection is based on the effectiveness of futures and forwards. Next, the
selection rules will emphasis on other features. Futures contracts are standardized by the Exchange,
where the transactions usually take place. Forward contracts are signed between

  • 3. The Battle Of The St. Lawrence Seaway The Battle of the St. Lawrence Seaway refers to the attacks on Allied shipping in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence from 1942 through to the end of the shipping season in 1944 . German submarines, commonly called U boats, entered into these Canadian waters to hinder and delay Allied supplies from reaching Britain across the Atlantic . However, Allied convoys still made voyages to Britain and back, constantly supplying them with goods. Sailing across the middle of the Atlantic itself was considered far more dangerous than just leaving the Canadian ports. Therefore, through examining Germany s intent for entering the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, effect on Allied shipping, and subsequent response by the Allies with respect to the attacks, it can be shown that U boats entering into Canadian waters had very little impact on impeding Allied shipping. Allied shipping from North America to Britain needed to supply at least a million tonnes of goods to allow Britain to survive and fight against the Axis . Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Britain for the duration of the Second World War, called the Battle of the Atlantic the [most] dominating factor all through the war. Never for one moment could we forget that everything happening elsewhere, on land, at sea or in the air depended ultimately on its outcome . Therefore, whoever held the upper hand in the Battle of the Atlantic held the advantage in supplies for the war. Germany decided to employ their U boats to try to delay and strike ... Procedure Of The Bernoulli s Theorem Apparatus Procedure Experimental set up The Bernoulli s theorem apparatus is set up on the hydraulic bench so that its base is horizontal for accurate height measurements from the manometer. The rig outflow tube is positioned above the volumetric tank. The rig inlet is then connected to the bench flow supply followed by closing the bench and the apparatus flow control valve. The pump is then started. The bench valve is gradually opened to fill the test rig with water. The bench valve and rig flow control valve are closed in order to bleed air from pressure tapping points and manometers. Then, the air bleed screw is opened and the cap from the adjacent air valve are removed. A length of small bore tubing from the air valve to volumetric tank is connected. The bench valve is then opened and allowed to flow through the manometers to eliminate all air from them. After that, the air bleed screw is tightened and bench valve and test rig flow control valve are partly opened. The air bleed screw is opened to allow air to enter the top of the manometers. Lastly, the screw is re tightened when the manometer levels reach a convenient height. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mutations (for most cancers) must appear in both tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes for cancers to form. The tumour suppressing genes and oncogenes act in complementary fashion to one another; one pulls forward, and the other pushes back ensuring that the cell cycle occurs in a controlled manner (Sherr, 2004). Oncogenes were discovered in the 1960s, when it was discovered that some animal cancers such as lymphomas were caused by viruses. Some of these viruses were notable due to the simplicity of their RNA genome. These viruses only had three distinct transcription units, involved in the replication of the virus (coat proteins and reverse transcriptase etc.), and an extra gene. This was an oncogene. When oncogenes are properly functioning they are termed proto oncogenes (Todd R, 1999). Their normal function is to control cell proliferation. These function in growth signalling pathways, and conversely to tumour suppressing cells are activated through a gain in function rather than a loss of it. This occurs in two ways, by producing more of a product, or producing a subtly different product, as a result of a mutation similar to tumour suppressor genes (Croce, 2008). Oncogenes play a particularly strong role in the development of breast cancers. Often the normal ERBB2 and other related genes are amplified in late stage neuroblastomas and rhabdomyosarcomas. Inez is arguing that Garcin has always been lying to himself and has been dreaming that he was a hero but, has actually just been self deceiving himself whenever he did something cowardly which she points out by saying he condoned a thousand petty lapses which is referring to perhaps smaller cowardly acts that he has done throughout his life that he refused to accept as indicating he was a coward. • 28. Utopia By Thomas Moore s Utopia Thomas Moore s Utopia appears to be a perfect society where everyone is treated fairly and equally. However, Utopia is not as egalitarian as it appears. This can be determined through the implications about and restraints placed on women. The attitude toward women in Utopia may have been seen as acceptable in 1516, but in contrast with today s standards this approach in the book towards women is misogynistic and oppressive. In Utopia, values are critical to the preservation of peace in society. Yet, these values do not include fair and proper treatment of every individual. Utopia appears to be a land of no persecution but women still suffer and are harassed through the societal standards pressed upon them as a condition of their sex. While the land of Utopia at first appears to give more rights to women than many countries did at the time, it becomes evident that the treatment of women and their rights are not representative of the supposed egalitarian principles applauded in the novel. There are multiple cases in Utopia where conflict is evident between the treatment of men and the treatment of women. There are many moments in Utopia when it appears that the women are equal to men, only to turn around and suggest they are not. One of these examples is when Raphael Hythloday is discussing the terms and conditions of marriage, or rather, conditions prior to even the engagement. He says that Whether she is a widow or a virgin, the women is shown naked to the suitor by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I chose to write a newspaper article because I think that they try to achieve their perfect place in a wrong way by using somaas a drug of happiness and relaxation. In my work, I am a writer of the London Telegraph who makes an article about that drug and their effects in the castes, also it says how they are going to solve their problems. This work is written in a formal, serious and informative tone, in order to avoid affecting the population s general point of view about the topic. The purpose of the newspaper is to inform people about what is happening in the world state, the castes and what are the possible consequences of this occurrence. This article describes the effects of the drug soma and their purpose on using it in their social castes. The target audience is general public, which have to know about these problems and the changes in the creating human s industry in London. London telegraph Is soma still a safe option to control the castes? Last week, several cases have been presented where certain individuals of the castes were affected apparently provoked by a malfunction of the soma (drug that is used to calm them) provoking a negative reaction in the individuals. Recently a group of Alphas said they felt bad and very stressed with their work. In the case of gammas that are a little more primitive the soma does not act as a sedative, on the contrary, it is acting as a stimulant that leads to insanity and very severe anger attacks. According to the institute in charge of developing and creating humans this can be due to an alteration of the soma or a side effectwith the new borne individuals. The scientists do not know with certainty if that is what can be provoking it, but surely this means a decrease in the yield of these two varieties, which can lead the world state to great difficulties since everything is supposed to be perfect for the creation of the ideal metropolis, a utopia ... Many people think that Hindus believe in many deities, but the Hindu concept of Godis much broader than that. In fact, Hinduismitself encompasses much more than just one specific set of religious beliefs. While some Hindus believe that God is a divine being with certain identifiable attributes, others believe that God cannot be defined and is an all pervading being that extends beyond everything. The changes brought about an increase in industrial production. The labor force significantly increased. After the war the goal simply became developing an economy capable of providing an adequate livelihood to all its citizens, the American Dream . The 1940 s marks the rise of suburbs and the ideal good life or American Dream as many veterans returned home and purchased houses. In the late 1940 s and throughout the 1950 s, many pursued the American Dream of hard work rewarded by middle class signs of success such as a house, a car, a college education, and household appliances. Miller wrote Act 1 of Death of a Salesman in less than twenty four hours, and completed the rest of the play within six weeks in a small studio built on his farm in Roxbury, Connecticut. Many believe the town was an ideal location for authors to settle down way from the public eye. Authors William Styron and Frank McCourt also found refuge in the New England farm town. I grew up in a family who loved superheroes and all things nerdy, so I was obviously exposed to that aspect of a hero at a young age. But I also grew up watching Animal Planet and with a father who is an animal behaviorist. So ever since I was very young I was surrounded by animals and was fascinated by anyone who worked with them. Because of this the two most prominent heroes I remember from my childhood were both complete opposites, but still inspired me and influenced my growing up and even who I am today. The heroes of my childhood are no less my heroes now that I have grown up. Add how they are still your heroes My cousins were obsessed with all things comic books, so of course (even with me being the only girl in the family) the second I could read they began to lend me comics and as soon as my parents allowed me to, they made me sit through a superhero movie marathon. They were always obsessed with Superman, Thor, Spiderman, Batman and all the other very mainstream superheroes. Which there is no problem with those heroes, I was just a little girl who wanted to see another girl be a superhero, because I was sick of having to sit through all the guy superhero movies with all my guy cousins.
