British Independence Research Paper
Imagine that your homeland, for which you feel nothing but the most overwhelming pride, has
been occupied by a neighboring power for the past 750 years, and that they have continually
degraded your indigenous culture, and at times committed acts which bordered on genocide. I m
willing to bet you would not stop short of bloodshed to remove the invasive neighbor. Now
imagine that after you ve fought, and bled, and killed, and died to establish an independent
republic in your homeland, you send a delegation including one of your greatest leaders to the
enemy s capital to negotiate for independence, and the delegation comes back with a treaty which
provides that the enemy will keep one sixth of your territory, while the other five sixths must still,...

In order to achieve this end, they resorted to low intensity asymmetrical warfare, utilizing guerrilla
tactics that the British Army was wholly ill equipped to counter. By 1921, in fact, the British had
realized that it was politically impossible for them to win the war. Victory, for the British, would
have required an even more heavy handed implementation of martial law than what they had
already implemented, which undoubtedly would have been noticed on the other side of the
Atlantic. The United Kingdom needed the support of the United States for various vital strategic
agendas in Asia and the Pacific. But the Irish cause already had immense support among the
American population, such that Г‰amon de Valera had already raised $5.5 million from
American supporters of the Irish cause. The American people were very unlikely to be happy if
the British resorted to such tactics, which would have derailed the possibility of American support
for the United Kingdom s agendas in the Far East. Upon making this realization, the Government
of Prime Minister David Lloyd George offered a truce to some very confused Irish

The School That I Would Give Temple University Essay
I have attended only three different schools before NECC. The school that I thought was by far
the most dynamic and helped me retain information better was Temple University. I would give
Temple University an A, because I was exposed to several different teaching styles, which made
the classes much more memorable. I remember sitting in my Language in Society Class thinking
Why are we taking a group quiz? He might as well just hand out the A s. But it was much deeper
than that. I had to learn how to balance speaking and listening for group participation, in addition
to time management. It wasn t like a group project, because we were just working together for one
timed class period instead of having days of preparation. These were skills that I came to realize
were much more important outside of school. I ve noticed a lot at work, when we have to make a
timed decision especially, that people would dominate conversations and leave people s opinions
out. Now, I actually want to hear from people who are quieter as opposed to just thinking that they
agree with whatever is being said. I had several different teachers that would challenge the structure
of a normal classroom.
Being a Linguistics/Speech Pathology major at Temple University meant a lot of my classes
were voice and sound related. I can t begin to describe the weird sounds and phrases we had to
produce with our mouths. Learning this way really helped because learning where my alveolar

Persuasive Essay On Nike Advertising
People take in all sorts of advertisements from all around them every day, from weight loss
solutions to new gaming apps. We are all surrounded with different advertisements where ever
we go, in airports, hospitals, even our schools. Companies have strategies to get people of all
ages to want their product. The main question is, how do they actually get people to buy their
product? The birth of an ad requires a lot of hard work, in order to have a successful launch.
Companies spend copious amounts of money, as well as time, to get achieve their number one
goal, making money. Nike, a very popular company around the world, has clearly accomplished
their dream. Nike has made a lot of advertisements throughout the years, in which now they have
several strategies to get people to wantthe products they make. They include certain appeals in their
ads that make the customers feel the needfor their products. For example, the need to achieve and
dominate take place in several of Nike s advertisements, which actually get people to want their
products. It is not known but Nike, and countless of other companies, include much more in their
advertisement than just the product using emotional seductiveness, to have a successful product.
Advertisers use a certain approach in the visual appearance of their ad to get the public s attention.
For example, the colors, models, proximity and contrast play a sizeable role. This Nike ad contains
a unique characteristic that grabs everyone s

Carbon Dioxide And Its Effect On The Environment
1. A
Carbon dioxide (CO2) absorbs energy from the sun, then releases it back into earth; it is the
second largest greenhouse gas after water vapour. Carbon dioxide releases out a harmful gas,
which is dissolved out to the atmosphere determined by temperature. However CO2 is not one of
the main impulsive forces in causing climate shifts, but as the climate cools the concentration of
CO2 decreases this then has a further cooling effect. Causing this irregular rise and fall in CO2
levels is the shift where carbon moves between the atmosphere, the earths crust and the ocean.
Furthermore, the rapid change of seasons also has an effect in how CO2 levels act, as such in
winter the saturation levels in the ocean increases. This then influences the CO2 levels to dissolve
in the ocean, resulting to a rise in sea levels and causes such as loss of biodiversity.
Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are visible to radiation that delivers the sun s energy
to the earth. Different types of radiation influence the temperature occurrence in carbon dioxide;
this is because the molecules found in the air by carbon dioxide absorb infrared radiation.
Carbon dioxide takes up a big amount of infrared radiation this is due to the process in how the
gas prevents its escape into space making radiation warm up the atmosphere. An example that we
can relate to this matter is how quickly a closed up car heats up under the summer sun. This is
similarly the case of carbon dioxide, like with the

How Is Harry Potter Related To Religion
The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure. Thoughts are not etched on
the inside of skulls, to be perused by an invader. The mind is a complex and many layered thing.
(Severus Snape, Book five.) The book series entitled Harry Potter has Biblical themes hidden
beneath all of the spells, charms, and enchantments. Harry Potter, in my own opinion, is very Christ
like and I feel like the book series could be looked at like a modernized version of the bible. He
resembles Jesus Christ in multiple ways. J.K Rowling has subtly featured religious symbolism in
her books such as, Harry dying for the wizarding world much like Jesus died willingly for our sins.
After they died, they were both resurrected. Fawkes, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The presence of a phoenix reinforces the underlying theme of conquering death by embracing life,
just like Harry and Jesus did.
Harry and Jesus know a lot about Sacrifice and selflessness. All of the characters in the Harry
Potter series experiences sacrificial love. Hermione Granger, one of Harry s two sidekicks
throughout his school years, has to obliviate her parents minds because she doesn t want them
getting hurt. Her mother and father are both muggles, therefore Voldemort would find them and
murder them. Ronald Weasley, Harry s other sidekick, sacrifices himself in a game of Wizard s
Chess for Hermione and Harry in their first year at Hogwarts. Dobby the house elf, who has saved
Harry s life on many occasion, sacrificed his life to save Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna Lovegood
and Mr. Olivander out of pure love and friendship. Harry s mother and father, Lily and James
Potter, sacrificed their selves for their only son just like Jesus Christ sacrificed his body for us and
he sacrificed his life on earth for us. Both Harry and Jesus did such a selfless thing for the people
they loved and cared for.
Every character from the bible resembles a person from the bible. Harry resembles Jesus because
he s the chosen one who died willingly for the people of the wizarding world. The D.A.
(Dumbledore s Army) and the Order are his disciples. Voldemort resembles the Satan. Lucifer

A Brief History of Antibiotics, Antibiotic Resistance, and Antibiotic Alternatives
Antibiotic Resistance and Alternatives
Antibiotics have been commonly, though mistakenly, thought of as the ultimate cure, for almost
all illness, for over half a century now. However, the intended use of antibiotics is for the
treatment of bacterial infections and diseases. Viruses or fungi related illnesses will not be
affected by antibiotics. This misunderstanding of the use of antibiotics has led to overuse, or the
misuse, of antibiotics, in a wide range of countries worldwide. As a result of overuse, misuse, and
abuse, antibiotics, once hailed as the savior of mankind, are an increasing threat as bacteria grow
ever stronger. (Bunyard) The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
aureus was one of the first publicized bacteria known to have become resistant to penicillin. (Ed.
Bonomo and Ed. Tolmasky) In London, just a few years after the introduction of penicillin, strains
of staphylococcus appeared that were resistant to penicillin, not simply by keeping it out, but by
actually destroying it. (Bunyard) S. aureus caused serious illnesses, such as pneumonia,
endocarditis, osteomylitis, and toxic shock syndrome. (Ed. Bonomo and Ed. Tolmasky) The clinical
impact of this resistance was staggering; this harmful pathogen had once again become untreatable.
Since the 1940 s, antibiotic production has increased rapidly. By 1946, in one hospital, 14% of
the strains isolated from patients had gained such resistance. In 1949, the U.S. produced
penicillin and streptomycin at the rate of 6.5 tons per month. (Bunyard) In the early 1950 s,
nearly 60% of the strains isolated from patients had gained resistance. (Bunyard) By 1954, the
rate of production of broad spectrum antibiotics had tripled to 220 tons a year. Today, the
quantity produced in the U.S. alone is 18,000 tons a year, nearly half of which is used in the
intensive rearing of animals as growth promoters and for controlling disease on the farm, which
itself is largely a product of closely confined livestock. In the U.K., the Swann Committee of 1969
warned of the dangers of antibiotic resistance from farmers using antibiotic growth promoters, and
recommended a ban specifically on the use

Being part of the younger generation, advertisers often target my generation and its easy to

the advertisers have become more deceptive and sneaky in their wording, preparation, and

In Search For Women s Rights
In the late nineteenth to early twentieth centuries, women s rights was a hot topic. Virginia Woolf
and Alice Walker are two women with two views that somewhat agree about this topic, with the
goal of finding a way to use the limited resources that they have for the good of others. They
particularly use womenof their time period as the major examples in their essays. But it all comes
down to this. Walker in her essay In Search of Our Mother s Gardens agrees with Woolf that
women s abilities were scarce and that we need to look harder for their contributions, along with
challenging Woolf s writing of In Search of a Room of One s Own that women in her day were

In Walker s essay In Search of Our Mothers Gardens, there are some points where she agrees with
Woolf in that women s abilities and resources of materials was scarce. But Walker challenges
Woolf s writing of In Search of a Room of One s Own that women in her day were able to use
them more efficiently than in Woolf s day with her mother s garden. Woolf points out that it
would be incapable for women to write if they don t make an impact. Walker points out that her
mother did a garden no matter what people thought about her and that art in some cases is a daily
part of life for some women. We need to care for the fact that women are having trouble even
today with being limited in what they can do. These two views surely help with the cause. But
most importantly, it shows what some can do when nobody sees it, doesn t give them credit, and

terms of the presidential campaign. This campaign in particular comes with a lot of
responsibilities and these candidates need to prove that they are capable of attacking any issue

While Bush has his concerns on the economy, he also brings up climate change and a solution he
proposes on executing if elected president. In an article, it is mentioned that Bush proposed a
solution to this climate change issue and it states, Bush has said the U.S. should work with other
countries to cut carbon emissions and has stressed the role of private industry in addressing the
problem (PBS 1). Jeb Bush wants the United States to seek help from other countries and try to
control the climate change by that. His solution is not realistic because even is the carbon
emissions are cut out, there are other ways to hurt nature which effects the climate. His solution is
worth a try but it cannot be guaranteed that those are the reasons our climate is changing. He
needs to put a strict enforcement of no littering because even though there are fines, no one really
abides by that rule. Other things affecting the climate would be pollution, so smoke and gas, and
that will never lessen because people are dependent on cars, and other means of transportation that
requires gas and pollutes the air with the smoke they release. Another issue brought up by Jeb Bush
is gun control, he believes that people that own guns should have more rights towards them but that
cannot be good for the people in the United States because murders and kidnapping is already an
issue as it is with or without any

Discrimination And Discrimination Against Discrimination
In many countries as well as the United States there are various laws that protect individuals
from discrimination, in the United States there are protected classes under the Civil Rights laws
that makes it illegal to discriminate against people that fall into these categories, these protected
classes are Race, Color; National Origin; Sex; Age; or Disability (Peck, 2006, p. 11). However, is
there ever a time that it is lawful to discriminate against an older person? We ll examine this
question and describe scenarios when this might be allowed.
Civil Rights Basics and Scenario 1 When Age discrimination is lawful (legal)
Civil Rights was enacted in the mid sixties in the United States to protect potential employees
from unlawful discrimination, therefore if you can prove that you weren t hired based on one
of the protected classes, Race, Color, National Origin, Sex, Age or Disability, you can very well
initiate litigation against a potential employer. For Example:A black woman that is
discriminated against simply because she is black and doesn t get the job based on her skin
color is facing racial discrimination and therefore might have the basis for a lawsuit alleging
unlawful discrimination. This same protection applies to older individuals, age 40 and up to
preserve their ability to be considered in the employment pool, and therefore can t be
discriminated against just because they have began to age. However, the law allows for some
discrimination as long as it

The Horror Of The Zombie Apocalypse
Daniel Drezner book addresses how the world would potentially react should the Zombie
Apocalypse start while relating it to international relations. While discussing the anarchical nature
of the world, in the realist argument, he addresses the fact that it is not likely that any one state
would be able to gain complete control of the world. However, if the entire world is being
overtaken by a zombie plague it is not outside the realm of possibility that survivors of various
nations would come together and merge with whatever power still existed and divvy out more
power to that group or individual. A good old fashioned militarytakeover would be just the thing to
create an uneasy world wide alliance with other militaristic organizations across the world against
the zombie hordes. The military would easily be able to take charge in a global catastrophe of this
nature relatively quickly and with little resistance from the common people. They are one of the
most disciplined and structured organizations in regards to bureaucracy and other political
organizations, and would not hesitate to change the protocols of war against an end of the world
type of threat such as a zombie takeover. Also, military tradition and codes of conduct cross borders
with significantly more similarities than do political ideologies and governmental structures, which
would result in there being a much easier and more unified alliance than could ever be achieved in
any other global unification setting.

The Canadian Progressive Rock Band Rush
Books, movies, paintings, music, and other types of art are connected in various ways, but one
connection seems to stand out. All art mediums are constructed in a way that disallows a median
to be reached regarding one s opinion from another. If a group of people favors one thing, another
group most likely exists that has the opposite, or conflicting opinion. 2112, read Twenty one twelve,
is a 7 part conceptual album by the Canadian progressive rock band Rush, illustrates this conflict in
its main plot. Regardless of its vivid storytelling and impactful instrumentals that glues everything
together, it is evident that each listener will break apart in terms of their personal opinions.

cherish their unique identities that they possess. The main character, named Anonymous, retaliates
against the idea by not conforming to what is expected by the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx , but
the factor driving him ultimately was the will to venture outward and appreciate something that
seemingly no one else sees. The conversation between Anonymous, and the priest during IV.

The Process Of Evolution And Evolution

The Process of Evolution
Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have
developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth, Google. Google.
Google, n.d. Web. 11 Apr. 2015. Evolutionis the reason there is change in the genetic makeup of a
population, the reason organisms are linked by common ancestors, and evolution is still happening
today because of the constant change in environment. This paper focuses on these subjects within
evolution and will explore all areas of the process of evolution that creates diversity and unity in
life.
One key component of evolution is natural selection. Natural selection is a theory, first presented
by Charles Darwin, that is well known across the globe. It is the reason why there is change of
genetic makeup in evolution. Natural selection is caused by the variation between generations, as
well as the survival of different individuals with different combinations of traits. The theory poses
that organisms with characteristics that increase their probability of survival will be given the
chance to produce more offspring. This means that the organism is more fit . These offsprings are
then given the benefiting characteristic. With time more variation throughout the species will
develop. For an example of why evolution is dependent on natural selection Berkeley College talks
about a population of beetles.

The Enlightened Histori An Article Authored By Jeffrey...
Aregai 1 The Enlightened Archaeologist an article authored by Jeffrey Hantman and Gary Dunham
chronicles Thomas Jefferson s investigation of the Indian burial mound located on the South Fork
of the Rivanna River in the 18th century. The site excavated by Jefferson, however, is no longer
visible, most likely due to dissipation by inevitable natural occurrences (I.E. excessive rainfall,
flooding rivers, etc.) or human activity such as farming. The Father of American Archaeology
correctly predicts the latter in his book, Notes on the State of Virginia, in which he states, mounds
...put under cultivation are much reduced in their height, and spread in width, by the plough, and
will probably disappear in time (1787). Fortunately for Archaeologists of the late 20th century
(1988) an Indian burial mound identical to that of the one Jefferson described in his book was
uncovered just 14 miles from the South Fork of the Rivanna River. The Rapidan mound in spite of
being reduced to its southern edge, provided archaeologists Hantman, Dunham, and colleagues a
unique, yet waning opportunity to record and excavate the quickly abrading site. What they
discovered from their digging surprised them; the content and order within the mound also
resembled Thomas Jefferson s descriptive notes. However, what he noted as the random placement

Research Paper
Lord Byron, one of the major poets of England during the Romantic Period (1785 1830), epitomized
the essence of this movement of literature because Romanticism was flourishing in the arts. In
painting, literature, and music, one of the great Romantic obsessions was the ancient past ( The
Destruction of the Sennacherib ). Some of the characteristics of Romanticism are belief in the
common man, reverence for nature, interest in the past, and optimism. All of Byron s poetry
reflects most of the characteristics, such as She Walks in Beauty and The Destruction of the
Sennacherib. Lord Byron acted as the model of the Romantic period by not only reflecting most of
or all of the Romantic ideals in just those two pieces, but he ... Show more content on

The International Monetary Fund s main goal is to ensure the stability of the international
monetary and financial system. It helps resolve crises, and works with its member countries to
promote growth and alleviate poverty (Imforg, 2016). My research seems to point to the main
failure of the IMF policies as pointing to the same issues faced by any bank math vs. people. While
its goals may be to help alleviate poverty, those same policies are what causes the patient to become
sicker or possibly die from the cure. Economists attempt to apply the rigidity, demanding constraints,

An example of this is when a country is caught in a death spiral they are stuck in a taxes spending
debt cycle. When a country spends more than it takes in (tax revenue) debt is incurred. Debt can
be a healthy sign, like a company that wants to buy another truck to be able to meet its requests
for more services. However, when a country takes on too much debt, investors start to lose trust in
that country s ability to pay its debt, so in order to get more funds, the creditors raise the interest
rate, thereby increasing its debt; and higher debt leads to lack of investor trust which leads to higher
interest rates, increasing the debt. (Khanacademyorg, 2012) And the death spiral begins.
As with an individual, when they get a pay raise, they can afford the new debt. With a country,
they must raise the taxes. If the citizens are not growing financially as a whole (Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) the broadest quantitative measure of a nation s total economic activity
(Investinganswerscom, 2016)), then the ability of the country to raise taxes safely becomes
problematic. Thus, the well being of the individuals of a society help that country to grow. In other
words, in 1776, Adam Smith called this being led by an invisible hand (Smith, Cannan, 1904). This
invisible hand is the self interest of the individuals of society to better their lives through their own
hard work which leads to the betterment of the country. However, when a

Experience Of A Blind Man In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
The Experience of a Blind Man
In the short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the narrator known as the husband has an
encounter with one of his wife s lifelong friends Robert. Robert is a blind man that plays an
integral roll in the climax of this story when the narrator has a life changing experience with
Robert and seeing life through the eyes of a blind man. In this essay, we will delve into the various
character aspects of the husband, and Robert. We will also discuss the relationship, and dynamic
between these two characters as well as how they change throughout the story.

Up until this point, the narrator seems appear as more of an anti hero or negative lead character,
this is the beginning of the turning point for the husband s perspective. Back in the first part the
husband eludes to Roberts eyes as creepy if you looked close, there was something different
about them. Too much white in the iris, for one thing, and the pupils seemed to move around in
the sockets without his knowing it or being able to stop it. Creepy. (Carver, 2013). Based on this
quote we can really see, that the narrator at this point bases a lot of his perception on what he
sees, and he has trouble with opening his mind. Robert on the other hand, is not at all what the
narrator expects He wore brown slacks, brown shoes, a light brown shirt, a tie, a sports coat. Spiffy.
He also had this full beard. But he didn t use a cane and he didn t wear dark glasses. I d always
thought dark glasses were a must for the blind. Fact was, I wished he had a pair. At first glance, his
eyes looked like anyone else s eyes. (Carver, 2013). As the narrator, his wife, and Robert sit down
for dinner, the narrator is mentally in awe of how Robert seems to have no signs of trouble
managing to navigate the food on his plate. The blind man had right away located his foods, he
knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with admiration as he used his knife and
fork on the meat. He d cut two pieces of meat, fork the meat into his mouth, and then go all out
for the scalloped potatoes, the beans next, and then he d tear off a hunk of buttered bread and eat
that. He d follow this up with a big drink of milk. It didn t seem to bother him to use his fingers
once in a while, either. (Carver, 2013). After dinner the narrator, his wife and Robert sit in the

Cultural and Ethical Environment
Individuals have their own ethical standards to varying degrees. Businesses have ethical standards
in the same way individuals do. Business standards in the United States are consistent with what
most westerners would consider ethical and proper marketplace behavior. Just because ethical dos

awareness while setting acceptable business standards (Cotton, 2017).

The Pothole Friend Friends are like roads. Back roads, highways, freeways each present different
challenges and experiences, much like the relationships one forms during a lifetime. Genuine
relationships, just like a smooth, newly paved road, make the journey of life pleasant, but every
now and again one hits a pothole. Although the damage potholes cause can be aggravating at first,
they are equally important as the smooth part of the road, for it is these nuisances in life that teach
valuable lessons necessary for individual learning and growth. In On the Road, Dean Moriarty is a
pothole that Sal Paradise encounters during his travels. Upon reflection of the flawed friendship
between Dean and Sal, I have come to realize that I have experienced a similar relationship. Dean
is popular, attractive, and in Sal s eyes, is just about the coolest person ever. Personally, I can

Reasons of Conspiracy People come up with crazy ideas all the time, many of which are torn

Before the discussion if furthered, it is important to lay down the basics of who really is a
conspiracy theorist. By Conspiracy Theorist , it is meant to reference a person who has spent at
least ten years of their life to the ideas which counter those of larger accepted organizations (ex:
Government). These persons must have published at least two books about their topics and must
have some sort of mass following and audience. According to PBS, a Conspiracy Theorist is:
someone who postulates on the existence of secret agreements between two or more people or
government to perform unlawful acts. (PBS: Strange Days) that definition is what will be used in
conjunction with the stated qualifications above for each person discussed in this paper. Due to
the limited resources and time constraints I cannot claim that the stated characteristics are the
only factors of a conspiracy theorists. There are many factors that influence one to become
interested in devoting ones life to counter history. It is possible to deeply research the personal
background of a large number of conspiracy theorists, but due to time and general interest, I will

Food Safety Act 1990:
The food safety acts are lay down rules that apply to everyone involved in a production, storage,
distribution or sales of foods.
Under the food safety act 1990 it is illegal to sell food unfit for human intake.
This act gives power to the health environment inspectors to inspect food and also seize food unfit
for the human intake and condemn it. Any establishment breaching food hygiene standards can be
served a notice for improvement, but in extreme conditions they can be closed down eternally, if
the practices are reflected to be a health hazard then their business can be act against for breaching
hazards.
The food safety act states that people working with food must practice working with good food
hygiene in the workplace. Food for people who use services and for visitors must be safely stored
and prepared and also must not be injurious to health.
Local authority health inspectors enforce this law.
The food safety (General Food Hygiene) regulates 1995, 2005 and 2006 referring to the need of

to Tweedledee, a character in Lewis Carroll s famous children s work Through the Looking Glass
(Complete Works 181). Of course, Lewis Carroll is most well known for that particular book, and
maybe even more so for the first Alice book, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland
. The connection
between Lewis Carroll and logic is less obvious for most people. In reality, Lewis Carroll is the

reflected through his incorporation of such logic games and problems in all of his children s

each contains characters that are portrayed by cards or pieces in a chess game. The two books,
especially Through the Looking Glass, are rich in mathematical humor. In the latter, Alice takes
a journey into the reversed world behind the Looking Glass, allowing Dodgson to introduce not
only reversals of space, but reversals of time as well this world is abundant in left and right

Dry White Season Essay
Summary Dry White Season Adam Simon CGW 4U1 Dry White Season was what I felt to be an
exemplary interpretation of how native South Africans truly condemned the immoral Apartheid
political system of the mid 1900 s. Though the film was quite graphic, explicit nature seemed
necessary to prove how racial brutality towards the black community really did exist. I enjoyed
the whole idea of a narrow minded white man making the transition from a life of socially
superior racial prejudice to become a devoted supporter of black rights. I found this really helped
create a strong liberal message to aid viewers in understanding the sick intolerance of the majority

represented the loyal and resourceful character that led the viewer to believe there was a shed of

bystander that provides the cathartic release by ultimately giving the villain what he deserved.
Despite some predictable qualities, the characters were still interesting. I thought Donald
Sutherland played the part of Benjamin superbly. His air of seriousness and integrity really keep
me interested in his character. Sure, he was naГЇve before the death of Gordon, and it was best to
just let it go at first, but he grew from being pessimistic and cynical, to an entirely optimistic,
likeable person to me the end by going neck deep into the mystery of Gordon s disappearance.
My favourite character of all though, was no doubt Mr. McKenzie. Though he only was vaguely

I Am A Guinea Pig Of Sorts
As humans we create a certain image of ourselves , we are aware of who we are and measure our
own worth. It s called self concept, it is one of the most influential parts of our personality it helps
us create the present and future way we will act. One of the most common ways we do this is
through the self fulfilling prophecy. For this essay I became a guinea pig of sorts and
experimented with this idea. Even before I took the rosenberg s Self esteem test I knew for a
fact that I suffer from low self esteem. My sever depression, anxiety and several psychologists
can attest to that. Another thing I knew for a fact is that faux positive self talk and notes wasn t

results but it did prove that I like most others also go through self fulfilling prophecies. It also
made me realize i have a very negative outlook on life, that i usually blame on my lack of
serotonin. I understand that I have full power over the way I feel about myself, sometimes i
think that i use my mental illnesses as handicaps for my low self esteem. I hear it often enough
to know that Self esteem comes from within and one must work on developing a positive view of
themselves so that they have confidence in their own value and not depend on external forces to
feel a sense of worth. I realize that i skimmed over what a self fulfilling prophecyis that is because I

Merchants In The Canterbury Tales
The Merchant in The Canterbury Tales is influenced by the standards of society of the tale. The
Merchant acts in interesting ways in response to his background and people s view of him. Some
of the standards of the society cause the Merchant to act in self interest and that factor propels many

the role of merchants in society, his pompous attitude, and his unhappy marriage.
The view of a merchant in the Middle Ages sculpted how the Merchant was viewed in Canterbury
Tales. As Britain was evolving out of a feudal state during the Middle ages, a middle class
emerged. With this, economic activity increased and [t]he merchant himself changed in his attitude
towards his work, in his duties and abilities, and in his educational background (Decameron Web).

GDP, on top of having several different components, has a few different ways in which it
measures output. Two different measurements that are widely used are Nominal GDP and Real
GDP. The main difference between nominal GDP and real GDP is that nominal GDP doesn t
adjust for inflation and real GDP does. 2 While real GDP is adjusted for differences in price
levels, nominal GDP when calculated is not and, as a result, will often appear higher and can be
misleading. With measurements that require adjustments, one will always encounter
discrepancies. Gross domestic input or GDI measures the sum of all income earned while
producing goods and services within a nation s borders. 3 The difference between GDI and GDP
is that GDI calculates economic activity based on income, and GDP calculates economic activity
based on spending. While they are similar, the two measurements use different methods to gauge
the economy and thus, the data collected by GDP and GDI will almost never be the same.

underdeveloped countries. Socialism believes the government needs to intervene to make sure no
feudalism or unjust land ownership systems are being enforced.
For many years, Third World countries were being exploited by the British. Many of these... Show

There are many aspects of socialism that many of the third world countries practice. The first aspect
of socialism is the rejection of communism and capitalism. Capitalism reminds them of their hated
feudal system and the exploitation that it involved. They also feel that communism lacks incentive
because it states that people should work only according to their abilities and will receive what
they need from the government. Due to the injustices that these people faced under a similar
system, it is obvious that capitalism or communism will not provide any motivation for it s people
to work harder.
Third World socialism also advocates the idea of natural resources belonging to the nation and it s
people and not to the individual whose land they are located on. For instance, if a family owns a
home and oil is discovered there, the government will take the oil and distribute it to the nation.
This is very important because previously, under feudalism, if a person owned land containing oil,
than that person owned the oil. Since the majority of the landowners were the rich British,
feudalism helped the rich get richer and kept the poor in poverty. It is easy to see why Third
World countries feel it is so important to distribute the wealth more equally. Since many of these
Third World countries are rich in natural resources, it makes sense to make sure that nobody can
exploit their resources again.
Another idea of Third World Socialism is that all public

Abigail Adams Rhetorical Analysis
Abigail Adams constructs a well composed letter to her beloved son John Quincy Adams in order to
support and advice John Adam. The letter is written in the twelfth of January 1780 when John
Adam was traveling abroad with his fate. The tone of Abigail Adams can be best described as being
gentle and complimentary. Furthermore, the purpose of Abigail Adams was to advise John Adam
concerning the future of his nation and to advise him on how to take charge of his country.
Throughout the affectionate letter, Abigail Adams uses parallel structure, similes, pathos, and
alludes to figures from history.
In the third paragraph of the sensible letter, Abigail Adams begins by using a simile to compare and
motivate her son John Adams about how he should work diligently and steadily. Abigail Adams
recalls an author compares a judicious traveler to a river, that increases its stream the further it
flows from its source. (paragraph 3 line 15 20) Furthermore, the use of simile indicates that Abigail
Adams wants John Adams to make a good representation of his country and acquire wisdom from
his experiences. This has a positive effect by encouraging Adams to stay true to his root. ... Show

The National Socialist Left s dirty little secret
The Left s Dirty little secret.

A society based on the freedom to choose is better than a society based on the principles of
socialism, communism and coercion. Milton Friedman
MIT Press of all places has just published a new book extolling the virtues of collectivism for our
children. It s overview reveals yet again that the left would it have that you and your children can
seemingly revel in a worker s paradise without Stasi, KGB, AVO or Gulags:
Once upon a time, people yearned to be free of the misery of capitalism. How could their dreams
come true? This little book proposes a different kind of communism, one that is true to its ... Show

This is also repeated ad nauseam by the left to deny it s incessant failure. This little bit of
ideological legerdemain is accomplished by arbitrarily redefining a collectivist regime as
something else, and voila! Communism [or any variant thereof] magically has a zero in the fail
column.
One only has to take a look at the current events in Venezuela to see how collectivism plays out in
a practical sense. Instead of a worker s paradise the people are staving, having to eat garbage to
survive. They suffer from improper medical care and the worst possible crime rates. Instead of
being free from authoritarianism there is a multilayered system of oppression that ranges from gun
toting government thugs known as colectivos (collectives) to a secret police apparatus Bolivarian

British Independence Research Paper Imagine that your homeland, for which you feel nothing but the most overwhelming pride, has been occupied by a neighboring power for the past 750 years, and that they have continually degraded your indigenous culture, and at times committed acts which bordered on genocide. I m willing to bet you would not stop short of bloodshed to remove the invasive neighbor. Now imagine that after you ve fought, and bled, and killed, and died to establish an independent republic in your homeland, you send a delegation including one of your greatest leaders to the enemy s capital to negotiate for independence, and the delegation comes back with a treaty which provides that the enemy will keep one sixth of your territory, while the other five sixths must still,... In order to achieve this end, they resorted to low intensity asymmetrical warfare, utilizing guerrilla tactics that the British Army was wholly ill equipped to counter. By 1921, in fact, the British had realized that it was politically impossible for them to win the war. Victory, for the British, would have required an even more heavy handed implementation of martial law than what they had already implemented, which undoubtedly would have been noticed on the other side of the Atlantic. The United Kingdom needed the support of the United States for various vital strategic agendas in Asia and the Pacific. But the Irish cause already had immense support among the American population, such that Г‰amon de Valera had already raised $5.5 million from American supporters of the Irish cause. The American people were very unlikely to be happy if the British resorted to such tactics, which would have derailed the possibility of American support for the United Kingdom s agendas in the Far East. Upon making this realization, the Government of Prime Minister David Lloyd George offered a truce to some very confused Irish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The School That I Would Give Temple University Essay I have attended only three different schools before NECC. The school that I thought was by far the most dynamic and helped me retain information better was Temple University. I would give Temple University an A, because I was exposed to several different teaching styles, which made the classes much more memorable. I remember sitting in my Language in Society Class thinking Why are we taking a group quiz? He might as well just hand out the A s. But it was much deeper than that. I had to learn how to balance speaking and listening for group participation, in addition to time management. It wasn t like a group project, because we were just working together for one timed class period instead of having days of preparation. These were skills that I came to realize were much more important outside of school. I ve noticed a lot at work, when we have to make a timed decision especially, that people would dominate conversations and leave people s opinions out. Now, I actually want to hear from people who are quieter as opposed to just thinking that they agree with whatever is being said. I had several different teachers that would challenge the structure of a normal classroom. Being a Linguistics/Speech Pathology major at Temple University meant a lot of my classes were voice and sound related. I can t begin to describe the weird sounds and phrases we had to produce with our mouths. Learning this way really helped because learning where my alveolar ridge is and how a specific ... • 5. Carbon Dioxide And Its Effect On The Environment 1. A Carbon dioxide (CO2) absorbs energy from the sun, then releases it back into earth; it is the second largest greenhouse gas after water vapour. Carbon dioxide releases out a harmful gas, which is dissolved out to the atmosphere determined by temperature. However CO2 is not one of the main impulsive forces in causing climate shifts, but as the climate cools the concentration of CO2 decreases this then has a further cooling effect. Causing this irregular rise and fall in CO2 levels is the shift where carbon moves between the atmosphere, the earths crust and the ocean. Furthermore, the rapid change of seasons also has an effect in how CO2 levels act, as such in winter the saturation levels in the ocean increases. This then influences the CO2 levels to dissolve in the ocean, resulting to a rise in sea levels and causes such as loss of biodiversity. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are visible to radiation that delivers the sun s energy to the earth. Different types of radiation influence the temperature occurrence in carbon dioxide; this is because the molecules found in the air by carbon dioxide absorb infrared radiation. Carbon dioxide takes up a big amount of infrared radiation this is due to the process in how the gas prevents its escape into space making radiation warm up the atmosphere. An example that we can relate to this matter is how quickly a closed up car heats up under the summer sun. This is similarly the case of carbon dioxide, like with the ... Harry Potter, in my own opinion, is very Christ like and I feel like the book series could be looked at like a modernized version of the bible. He resembles Jesus Christ in multiple ways. A Brief History of Antibiotics, Antibiotic Resistance, and Antibiotic Alternatives Antibiotic Resistance and Alternatives Antibiotics have been commonly, though mistakenly, thought of as the ultimate cure, for almost all illness, for over half a century now. However, the intended use of antibiotics is for the treatment of bacterial infections and diseases. Viruses or fungi related illnesses will not be affected by antibiotics. This misunderstanding of the use of antibiotics has led to overuse, or the misuse, of antibiotics, in a wide range of countries worldwide. As a result of overuse, misuse, and abuse, antibiotics, once hailed as the savior of mankind, are an increasing threat as bacteria grow ever stronger. (Bunyard) The ... (Bunyard) S. aureus caused serious illnesses, such as pneumonia, endocarditis, osteomylitis, and toxic shock syndrome. (Ed. Bonomo and Ed. Tolmasky) The clinical impact of this resistance was staggering; this harmful pathogen had once again become untreatable. Since the 1940 s, antibiotic production has increased rapidly. By 1946, in one hospital, 14% of the strains isolated from patients had gained such resistance. In 1949, the U.S. produced penicillin and streptomycin at the rate of 6.5 tons per month. (Bunyard) In the early 1950 s, nearly 60% of the strains isolated from patients had gained resistance. (Bunyard) By 1954, the rate of production of broad spectrum antibiotics had tripled to 220 tons a year. Today, the quantity produced in the U.S. alone is 18,000 tons a year, nearly half of which is used in the intensive rearing of animals as growth promoters and for controlling disease on the farm, which itself is largely a product of closely confined livestock. Virginia Woolf and Alice Walker are two women with two views that somewhat agree about this topic, with the goal of finding a way to use the limited resources that they have for the good of others. They particularly use womenof their time period as the major examples in their essays. But it all comes down to this. Walker in her essay In Search of Our Mother s Gardens agrees with Woolf that women s abilities were scarce and that we need to look harder for their contributions, along with challenging Woolf s writing of In Search of a Room of One s Own that women in her day were able to use them more efficiently than in Woolf s day in her mother s garden.... Woolf points out that it would be incapable for women to write if they don t make an impact. Walker points out that her mother did a garden no matter what people thought about her and that art in some cases is a daily part of life for some women. We need to care for the fact that women are having trouble even today with being limited in what they can do. These two views surely help with the cause. Jeb Bush wants the United States to seek help from other countries and try to control the climate change by that. His solution is not realistic because even is the carbon emissions are cut out, there are other ways to hurt nature which effects the climate. His solution is worth a try but it cannot be guaranteed that those are the reasons our climate is changing. He needs to put a strict enforcement of no littering because even though there are fines, no one really abides by that rule. Other things affecting the climate would be pollution, so smoke and gas, and that will never lessen because people are dependent on cars, and other means of transportation that requires gas and pollutes the air with the smoke they release. Discrimination And Discrimination Against Discrimination In many countries as well as the United States there are various laws that protect individuals from discrimination, in the United States there are protected classes under the Civil Rights laws that makes it illegal to discriminate against people that fall into these categories, these protected classes are Race, Color; National Origin; Sex; Age; or Disability (Peck, 2006, p. 11). However, is there ever a time that it is lawful to discriminate against an older person? We ll examine this question and describe scenarios when this might be allowed. Civil Rights Basics and Scenario 1 When Age discrimination is lawful (legal) Civil Rights was enacted in the mid sixties in the United States to protect potential employees from unlawful discrimination, therefore if you can prove that you weren t hired based on one of the protected classes, Race, Color, National Origin, Sex, Age or Disability, you can very well initiate litigation against a potential employer. For Example:A black woman that is discriminated against simply because she is black and doesn t get the job based on her skin color is facing racial discrimination and therefore might have the basis for a lawsuit alleging unlawful discrimination. This same protection applies to older individuals, age 40 and up to preserve their ability to be considered in the employment pool, and therefore can t be discriminated against just because they have began to age. While discussing the anarchical nature of the world, in the realist argument, he addresses the fact that it is not likely that any one state would be able to gain complete control of the world. However, if the entire world is being overtaken by a zombie plague it is not outside the realm of possibility that survivors of various nations would come together and merge with whatever power still existed and divvy out more power to that group or individual. A good old fashioned militarytakeover would be just the thing to create an uneasy world wide alliance with other militaristic organizations across the world against the zombie hordes. The military would easily be able to take charge in a global catastrophe of this nature relatively quickly and with little resistance from the common people. They are one of the most disciplined and structured organizations in regards to bureaucracy and other political organizations, and would not hesitate to change the protocols of war against an end of the world type of threat such as a zombie takeover. Also, military tradition and codes of conduct cross borders with significantly more similarities than do political ideologies and governmental structures, which would result in there being a much easier and more unified alliance than could ever be achieved in any other global unification setting. ... The Process Of Evolution And Evolution Sachs 1 Ella Sachs Mrs.Jarvis AP Biology April 6th, 2015 The Process of Evolution Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth, Google. Google. Google, n.d. Web. 11 Apr. 2015. Evolutionis the reason there is change in the genetic makeup of a population, the reason organisms are linked by common ancestors, and evolution is still happening today because of the constant change in environment. This paper focuses on these subjects within evolution and will explore all areas of the process of evolution that creates diversity and unity in life. One key component of evolution is natural selection. Natural selection is a theory, first presented by Charles Darwin, that is well known across the globe. It is the reason why there is change of genetic makeup in evolution. Natural selection is caused by the variation between generations, as well as the survival of different individuals with different combinations of traits. The theory poses that organisms with characteristics that increase their probability of survival will be given the chance to produce more offspring. This means that the organism is more fit . These offsprings are then given the benefiting characteristic. With time more variation throughout the species will develop. For an example of why evolution is dependent on natural selection Berkeley College talks about a population of beetles. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aregai 1 The Enlightened Archaeologist an article authored by Jeffrey Hantman and Gary Dunham chronicles Thomas Jefferson s investigation of the Indian burial mound located on the South Fork of the Rivanna River in the 18th century. The site excavated by Jefferson, however, is no longer visible, most likely due to dissipation by inevitable natural occurrences (I.E. excessive rainfall, flooding rivers, etc.) or human activity such as farming. The Father of American Archaeology correctly predicts the latter in his book, Notes on the State of Virginia, in which he states, mounds ...put under cultivation are much reduced in their height, and spread in width, by the plough, and will probably disappear in time (1787). Fortunately for Archaeologists of the late 20th century (1988) an Indian burial mound identical to that of the one Jefferson described in his book was uncovered just 14 miles from the South Fork of the Rivanna River. The Rapidan mound in spite of being reduced to its southern edge, provided archaeologists Hantman, Dunham, and colleagues a unique, yet waning opportunity to record and excavate the quickly abrading site. What they discovered from their digging surprised them; the content and order within the mound also resembled Thomas Jefferson s descriptive notes. An example of this is when a country is caught in a death spiral they are stuck in a taxes spending debt cycle. When a country spends more than it takes in (tax revenue) debt is incurred. Debt can be a healthy sign, like a company that wants to buy another truck to be able to meet its requests for more services. However, when a country takes on too much debt, investors start to lose trust in that country s ability to pay its debt, so in order to get more funds, the creditors raise the interest rate, thereby increasing its debt; and higher debt leads to lack of investor trust which leads to higher interest rates, increasing the debt. (Khanacademyorg, 2012) And the death spiral begins. As with an individual, when they get a pay raise, they can afford the new debt. With a country, they must raise the taxes. If the citizens are not growing financially as a whole (Gross Domestic Product (GDP) the broadest quantitative measure of a nation s total economic activity (Investinganswerscom, 2016)), then the ability of the country to raise taxes safely becomes problematic. Thus, the well being of the individuals of a society help that country to grow. In other words, in 1776, Adam Smith called this being led by an invisible hand (Smith, Cannan, 1904). He believed every object, person, act, behavior has a meaning and it depends on each individual how to interpret them. In fact, things have multiple meanings and what people interpret comes from what they know and what experiences they have had in their life. The more people dig in a painting, the more they would understand. When he started using paranoiac critical method he had been influenced by Jacques Lacan s idea about paranoia. That s logic, according to Tweedledee, a character in Lewis Carroll s famous children s work Through the Looking Glass (Complete Works 181). Of course, Lewis Carroll is most well known for that particular book, and maybe even more so for the first Alice book, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland . The connection between Lewis Carroll and logic is less obvious for most people. In reality, Lewis Carroll is the nom de guerre for the Reverend Charles L. His hope that it might be of real service to the young, and be taken up, in High Schools and in private families, as a valuable addition to their stock of healthful mental recreations was reflected through his incorporation of such logic games and problems in all of his children s books (qtd Braithwaite 174). His love of chess and card games is apparent in his Alice books; each contains characters that are portrayed by cards or pieces in a chess game. The two books, especially Through the Looking Glass, are rich in mathematical humor. In the latter, Alice takes a journey into the reversed world behind the Looking Glass, allowing Dodgson to introduce not only reversals of space, but reversals of time as well this world is abundant in left and right symmetries. The Tweedle brothers, who are mirror images of each other, exemplify these symmetries (Gardner, Universe 3). In addition, the White Queen s memory works both forward and backward in time she can feel pain even before the sharp point of a pin touches her finger (3). There is also an example of a somewhat recursive sequence of events. The reader can easily lose himself or herself in what Gardener calls endless labyrinths. While sleeping, the Red King dreams about Alice, who is also napping and dreaming about the Red King. In both of these dreams, each dreams of the other, forming a pair of infinite regresses (3). Dry White Season Essay Summary Dry White Season Adam Simon CGW 4U1 Dry White Season was what I felt to be an exemplary interpretation of how native South Africans truly condemned the immoral Apartheid political system of the mid 1900 s. Though the film was quite graphic, explicit nature seemed necessary to prove how racial brutality towards the black community really did exist. I enjoyed the whole idea of a narrow minded white man making the transition from a life of socially superior racial prejudice to become a devoted supporter of black rights. I found this really helped create a strong liberal message to aid viewers in understanding the sick intolerance of the majority of white South Africans at that time.... Benjamin is the hero; the incoherent individual that learns an unpleasant lesson due to one event that changed the course of all events prior, (Gordon s death) Captain Stoltz was the villain; the sadistic, power hungry oppressor with manipulative ways that ended up determining his fate, Johan represented the loyal and resourceful character that led the viewer to believe there was a shed of hope throughout any struggle, and Stanley was the character I ve seen way too often, the random bystander that provides the cathartic release by ultimately giving the villain what he deserved. Despite some predictable qualities, the characters were still interesting. I thought Donald Sutherland played the part of Benjamin superbly. His air of seriousness and integrity really keep me interested in his character. Sure, he was naГЇve before the death of Gordon, and it was best to just let it go at first, but he grew from being pessimistic and cynical, to an entirely optimistic, likeable person to me the end by going neck deep into the mystery of Gordon s disappearance. My favourite character of all though, was no doubt Mr. McKenzie. Though he only was vaguely present, he absolutely dominated the screen during the courtroom trial. I found his use of sarcastic remarks in the courtroom hilarious, yet so fittingly applicable to his realist character. He clearly is a trail blazer in the sense that he is a white man fighting for black rights, yet he does so anyways, just to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s called self concept, it is one of the most influential parts of our personality it helps us create the present and future way we will act. One of the most common ways we do this is through the self fulfilling prophecy. For this essay I became a guinea pig of sorts and experimented with this idea. Even before I took the rosenberg s Self esteem test I knew for a fact that I suffer from low self esteem. My sever depression, anxiety and several psychologists can attest to that. Another thing I knew for a fact is that faux positive self talk and notes wasn t going to help me, Rejecting the idea before even doing the experiment probably altered my end results but it did prove that I like most others also go through self fulfilling prophecies. It also made me realize i have a very negative outlook on life, that i usually blame on my lack of serotonin. I understand that I have full power over the way I feel about myself, sometimes i think that i use my mental illnesses as handicaps for my low self esteem. I hear it often enough to know that Self esteem comes from within and one must work on developing a positive view of themselves so that they have confidence in their own value and not depend on external forces to feel a sense of worth. I realize that i skimmed over what a self fulfilling prophecyis that is because I wanted to explain it to the best of my abilities. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Merchant acts in interesting ways in response to his background and people s view of him. Some of the standards of the society cause the Merchant to act in self interest and that factor propels many of his choices throughout The Canterbury Tales. The Merchant s portrayal in the story is affected by the role of merchants in society, his pompous attitude, and his unhappy marriage. The view of a merchant in the Middle Ages sculpted how the Merchant was viewed in Canterbury Tales. As Britain was evolving out of a feudal state during the Middle ages, a middle class emerged. With this, economic activity increased and [t]he merchant himself changed in his attitude towards his work, in his duties and abilities, and in his educational background (Decameron Web). The main difference between nominal GDP and real GDP is that nominal GDP doesn t adjust for inflation and real GDP does. 2 While real GDP is adjusted for differences in price levels, nominal GDP when calculated is not and, as a result, will often appear higher and can be misleading. With measurements that require adjustments, one will always encounter discrepancies. Gross domestic input or GDI measures the sum of all income earned while

However, the predominant ideology in most Third World countries is socialism. There are many reasons why Third World countries have turned to socialism as their form of government. The main reason the Third World has taken on the concept of socialism is because of the history of feudalism and colonialism that these countries faced for so many years. Socialism was seen as a way to reform the land of many underdeveloped countries. Socialism believes the government needs to intervene to make sure no feudalism or unjust land ownership systems are being enforced. For many years, Third World countries were being exploited by the British. Many of these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many aspects of socialism that many of the third world countries practice. The first aspect of socialism is the rejection of communism and capitalism. Capitalism reminds them of their hated feudal system and the exploitation that it involved. They also feel that communism lacks incentive because it states that people should work only according to their abilities and will receive what they need from the government. Due to the injustices that these people faced under a similar system, it is obvious that capitalism or communism will not provide any motivation for it s people to work harder. Third World socialism also advocates the idea of natural resources belonging to the nation and it s people and not to the individual whose land they are located on. For instance, if a family owns a home and oil is discovered there, the government will take the oil and distribute it to the nation. This is very important because previously, under feudalism, if a person owned land containing oil, than that person owned the oil. Since the majority of the landowners were the rich British, feudalism helped the rich get richer and kept the poor in poverty. It is easy to see why Third World countries feel it is so important to distribute the wealth more equally. Since many of these Third World countries are rich in natural resources, it makes sense to make sure that nobody can exploit their resources again. Another idea of Third World Socialism is that all public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, the purpose of Abigail Adams was to advise John Adam concerning the future of his nation and to advise him on how to take charge of his country.
