Speech-Language Pathology Research Paper
A Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is a specialist who evaluates and treats patients or students
with speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all
ages, according to MedicineNet (MedicineNet). People of all ages can struggle with speaking
whether it be articulating letters, stuttering or dyslexia. It is easiest to help correct these challenges
at a younger age, but not impossible when you are older. Regardless of the age or the reason behind
the treatment, the most important part is that the individual receives the therapy that is needed to
help them reach their optimum ability in communication and speaking.
Before starting this project, I didn t know very much about Speech Language Pathology. I ... Show

While with Ms. Smith, I was able to learn more about the difference between Medical Speech
Language Pathology and School Speech Language Pathology. One of the major differences was
the schooling you have to go through to become each type of pathologist. In a school, they
require a masters to pass the national test, and a teaching certificate, where as a medical SLP s
need a masters to pass the national test, and a certificate of clinician competence. Another
difference is what each type of pathology pays. A school pathologist starts at around $40,000 a
year with a scheduled step raise yearly of between $2,500 to $3,000. Medical SLP s start out at
around $10,000 more than in a school and can increase significantly more over time. According
to Learn.org, the highest mean salary someone can expect to receive in a hospital/laboratory
setting is about $105,680 as of 2015 (Learn.org). One question I was eager to learn more about
was how exactly does an SLP help children? While researching this question, I came across a
video that explains exactly how it helps children. Speech Language Pathology can help with
children s communication skills. It allows them to better understand what is being said to them
and how to express themselves to others. It encourages them to talk with others more, and
improves reading and writing skills. Communication can impact a child s social skills and can be
an area kids may struggle. With some help with their speech, they can share a common focus with
another person, play with others and share toys, understand feelings, and make friends. Overall,
Speech Language Pathology helps them interact better with people around them and makes them
feel more comfortable in a classroom (ASHA). One last thing that I was able to come to a
conclusion on was the common terminology used as a Speech Language Pathologist. Like most

By a research conducted at the Registrar-General s...
By a research conducted at the Registrar General s Department, it has been seen that far back
early as 1800 s, the Registrar General s Department has been a 100% paper based environment. All
transaction including registration of deeds, selling or interchanged of property, state land lease
documents and site plan were solely on hardcopy. Deeds search was done by manual procedures,
which mean an individual has to go through many archived books to search a specific document.
From 2010 onwards, the Registrar General s Department has been using a computer platform which
has modernised land administration. This has been possible when the Information Management
System (IMS) has been put in place by the Government. Following LAVIMS ACT in 2008, a...

Infoterra has used aerial photos to build up a mosaic picture of the whole island. They brought
the aeroplane equipped with three digital cameras which have photographed the island. To be
able to use this aerial photo as a digital cadastre, a control network (Geodetic Datum) had to be
implemented to support the DCDB. Therefore the Ministry of Housing and Lands (MHL)
identified the need to develop a new geodetic datum to support and maintain the Digital
Cadastral Database DCDB. In 2008, Landgate (Australia) had assessed all available geodetic
survey data comprising the 1934 triangulation survey, and GPS surveys conducted in 1994 and
2001. After his analysis Langate revealed that these surveys, either in combination or singularly,
had not sufficient level of accuracy for the basis of a new geodetic datum. Moreover, new GPS
observations were required to be able to position the Island of Mauritius accurately in a global
sense. Landgate recommended the MHL to

The Anti Federalist Argument Against A Weaker Federal...
The focus point of the anti federalist argument revolved around the support of a weaker federal
government. After the Declaration of Independence was signed, there was a necessity to unite the
nation. A way was needed to govern the land amassed by the thirteen colonies. On the twelfth of
July, 1776, eight days after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Second Continental
Congress began efforts to create the fundamental principles on which to govern the nation while
managing the colonial war effort. Once a version was complete it was sent to be ratified by the
states in 1777. Ratification by the states was completed in 1781. This document is known as the
Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation were deliberately weak, which followed
logically after breaking away from the strong British government. There was however a group that
opposed the weak federal government created by the Articles of Confederation, and they came to be
known as the federalists. The group that supported a weaker government thus came to be known as
the anti federalists. As the government played out on the nations stage, members of the anti
federalist party would change, uphold or augment their ideals.
The Articles of Confederation failed because of its deliberate lack of power. It was inherently
weak first and foremost because it called for a confederacy which gave sovereign power to the
states. We see this in Article II, which states that: Each state retains its

Biography of Andy Whorl
Andy Whorl Andy Whorl was a popular American print artist in the 1960. He helped create the
style of art known as Pop Art. Pop Art showed what was popular in American culture; products,
celebrities, etc. Andy Whorl s career started out as a commercial artist. Some of his fellow artists
admired him and his work, while other did not consider him a true artist. He displayed some of
his work in museums and became famous. A friend of Andy told him to make art based on
everyday things, so Andy made his famous picture of the multiple Campbell s soup cans. Whorl
used mass production to make some of his artwork like the Ten Lizes featuring Elizabeth Taylor.
His mass production method involved silk screening. Before he could make the silk screen
products, he had to have the images enlarged several times. The method of silk screening and
mass production allowed Andy Whorl to have a team create his work instead of himself slaving
away on his work. His team worked out of his studio in New York City. His studio, which he
called The Factory , had three locations throughout New York City. Andy Whorl used
consumerism in his art. He made prints of pictures of famous people like Marilyn Monroe and
Elizabeth Taylor. Some of his artwork has sublime tones of death. For instance his obsession with
Elizabeth Taylor started when her husband died. He also started his artwork of Marilyn Monroe
after her death. His inspiration for his Jackie Kennedy series was the assassination of her husband,

Russia And The Soviet Union
Russia had many complications before Mikhail Gorbachev came into power for the Soviet
Union. During 1939 through 1945, Russian took part in World War II heavily and were led by
Dictator Joseph Stalin. Following the war, Russia was in a nuclear arms race with America,
riding on everyone s fear of there being a World War III and a nuclear war. Post World War II
Russia and the rest of the Soviet Unionhad very poor living conditions due to the mass of poverty.
In 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis took place, which was also known as the October Crisis. This
was when American President John F. Kennedy was informed that there were Soviet nuclear tipped
missiles in Cuba where he then made a deal with Soviet President Nikita Khrushchev where
America would not invade Cuba as long as the Soviet Union withdrew its missiles. Following this
was the Brezhnev Era, Soviet Union circa 1964 through 1982, in the Soviet Union.
The Brezhnev Era is the time in the Soviet Union that Leonid Brezhnev was in power of Russia and
the Soviet Union from October 1964 through November 1982. During this era, the Soviet Union
began with a high economic growth and prosperity but then it ended in a weaker Soviet Union
with a social, political and economic lack of progress. Nikita Khrushchev was President before
Brezhnev but he was kicked out of office due to his lack of accomplishing his set goals. During the

Recording Review
Title: So Far So Near
Release Date: 1993
Label: Verve Records
Name: Joe Henderson
Cultural Heritage: American Jazz saxophonist
Liner Notes: The liner notes provide detail on the style Joe uses. It says how he uses harsh tones
and blunt rhythms, and how his solos were architectural with recognizable elements. All these
things added up to make Joe stand out and make is own style. Though he has he own style, So
Near, So Far is a departure from his earlier work. Historically, in the 60 s Henderson stood in the
shadow of people like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman and a few others, but his
records stood with the jazz world. The information given in the notes is enough to understand that
Joe Henderson had his own style that may or may not have been influenced by the people worked
for/with. These notes can be improved by providing more information on a visual aspect.
Henderson s music has a changing texture, and different form of rhythm.

A Comparison of Fahrenheit 451 and Dover Beach Essay
Fahrenheit 451 is a well written book that tells a story of a dream world and one man who wakes
up from that dream. Montag, the protagonist of the story, brings home a book of poetry one day
and begins to read the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold to his wife and her guests. Many
critics think that Bradbury picked this poem because it paralleled life in his book. The poem
Dover Beach can be compared to Fahrenheit 451 because both pieces of writing talk about themes
of true love, fantasy and allover hopelessness.
One of the ways Fahrenheit 451 can be related to Arnold s Dover Beach is by connecting the
absense of true love in both of them. Throughout the book, Montag slowly ... Show more content on

Firemen are there to keep the peace. Beatty even says to Montag quot;I don t think you realize
how important you are, we are, to our happy world as it stands now (62) quot;. He is implying
that they, being the firemen, keep the world that they live in happy, because that is the world they
are used to being happy in. Their land of nonsense information is their dream world that people live
in without thinking of other possibilities for living. The beauty of the real world is masked by the
tall buildings of the city, which the firemen keep up to make the people happy. When people are
discovered hiding books in their houses, they are letting the light of the real world show
through. Outside of the city, the real world really shines through. The gang of men who
memorize books is showing that the real world does exist, though it cannot fully be real without
the actual books. In the poem Dover Beach, Arnold says quot;the world, which seems to lie
before us like a land of dreams, so various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neither joy, nor love,
nor light, Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain... quot;. This can be compared to Bradbury s
dream world of the city, which is a land of dreams, yet has no real love, joy, or peace. Yet, quot;we
are here as on a darkling plain quot;.
Both Arnold and Bradbury use their writings to talk about the cycles of life and its

Child Labor In Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo has changed a lot due to child labor. The children of Congo
work hours mining gold, cassiterite, and most commonly cobalt as well as use the children as
soldiers to fight in wars. The Democratic Republic of Congo has not done anything to prevent child
labor until very recently. The country s economy has been crashing which is why they used child
labor to start with. About twenty five percent of children between the age of five to fourteen,
which is over four million kids in Congo. Luckily there is at least fifty nine percent of Congos

This plan plans to get rid of child labor by 2020. The only problem with this plan is that this plan
is not being paid by congo s government meaning that they are waiting for other countries to
help them get out of child labor. Not a lot of people know about this issue meaning that there
needs to be a spread of awareness. The democratic republic of Congo government started a
program to get children out of these bad situations and to get child labor out of Congo in. The
government got support from Sweden and Japan, the USAID (which advances the U.S. s
national security), and the world bank. The goal of This program was to get about 1,500 or more
children out armies. After this program, once a child was identified in an army in Congo they

Essay on Current State of the Republican Party
It was a commonly held belief among the Republican party that Mitt Romney was almost a
guaranteed win in the 2012 presidential election. This view wasn t necessarily because Romney
followed Republican policy to a T but rather because of Obama s disastrous job with the
economy in the previous four years. History was well in the minds of most Republicans in that
particular matter since no president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt had ever won a presidency
after the economy had gone as low as it did and was in a serious struggle to rebound. With this
piece of history in the minds of most Republicans the assumptions was history would continue to
repeat itself even if Romeny wasn t the Republican parties knight in shinning armor. The election...

The first such way is in social issues. The traditionally narrow minded view on most social issues
has almost all but gone away and the open mindedness of the american people is more apparent.
One of these issues is gay marriage and the acceptance it has been met by. We see this with
certain states that have already legalized it and in more and more states contemplating proposing
gay marriage and placing it on the ballot. According to a ABC News poll, conservative support
for gay marriage has gone from 10 percent support in 2004 to 19 percent in 2006 and 30 percent
currently (Abramowitz). Another important issue is abortions and the womens right to choose.
This has always been an issues of friction in america but abortion has become more open and a
more commonly used option among women. For women who do not necessarily agree with the
practice of abortion they still share the idea that women should have the right to choose and
make decisions that are inherently theirs because it is their body. Womens rights have always
been a debated subject in american and it has only expanded over the years. Telling women they
have no say in their body and their future in the way of having children is taking a drastic step
backwards from the forward moving expansion of rights. Republicans failed to budge on their
view on womens right to choose while the Democrats made it clear they supported the right to
choose. According to exit polls 53 percent of the voters in the 2012 elections were

Taking a Look at Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the most common type of carcinoma and the second leading cause of cancer
death in men, following carcinoma of the lung. The risk of developing prostate cancer increases
with age, beginning at age 50, and is also higher among African American men. The two highest
age subpopulations diagnosed are men 55 64 and 65 74 years of age, comprising 29.0% and 35.6%
of all prostate cancerdiagnoses, respectively. The age adjusted incidence rate of prostate canceris
159.3 per 100,000 men per year2. By race, black men have the highest incidence rate of this
disease with an incidence rate of 239.8 per 100,000 men, while Hispanic men have the lowest
with a rate of 133.4 per 100,000 men. The death rate of African Americans is more than double
that of any other race with a mortality rate of 56 per 100,000 men2. Recent data indicates that
cancer develops in 30% of black men ages 50 59 and in 39% of black men 60 692. This is in
contrast to 8% of black men developing it between the ages of 40 and 49. Similar data has been
shown for men with a family history . The age adjusted death rate from prostate cancer has
fortunately decreased by 3.4% between 2001 and 2006 and the lifetime risk of developing prostate
cancer is 15.9% for American men (i.e. 1 in every 6 men) 2.
Though relatively prevalent, the death rate of prostate cancer is lower than that of lung cancer in
men because of, among many other reasons, its slow natural course . Prostate cancer is a very

Mutjinga Myth Summary
The story about Mutjinga, a woman of spiritual and asomatous power, is a tale that seeks to explain
the relationships between men and women in early Australian societies, while also tying these
motifs and themes into the greater collective Dreamtime cosmology of the Aboriginals. This story
suggests that women and men did not hold tantamount positions within their early societies
justifying the superiority of men, while also implying that there was a time when women had the
upper hand, and may return to challenge male authority once again. To explain, the myth illustrates
that in the Dreamtimeland of the Murinbata people, a place existed where an old womannamed
Mutjinga, a woman of power, lived. Aboriginals believed that all the things in the world had
both a palpable physical form as well as a spirit form, which was invisible. When living things
passed away, it was regarded that their spirits went to a secret cave, of which Mutjinga was the
caretaker; and only Mutjinga had the power to speak with these spirits. The tale insinuates, that
women, such as Mutjinga, once had the power and authority over men, because they possessed
abilities men did not have. As evidenced in The Man Eater: The Mutjinga Myth, Mutjinga could
speak with the spirits. Because she had this power, she could do many things which men could not.
[...] The men feared the power of Mutjinga and did not consort with her. They called upon her to
lead their dances and teach them songs, but none came to

For a two year span in the early 1960s, Tommy Davis was probably the best hitter in baseball. His
1962 season was one in which Tommy Davis set Dodger records that still stand. Tommy Davis had

Tommy Davis won the batting titles of the Midwest and Pacific Coast Leagues on his way up

average; Tommy Davis would win it again by batting .326 in 1963. Only Mike Piazza

Behavior Of Rural Consumers Towards Mobile Phones Essay
AN ANALYTIC STUDY TO EVALUATE BEHAVIOUR OF RURAL CONSUMERS TOWARDS
MOBILE PHONES
1.0 Introduction The future lies with those companies who see the poor as their customers
C.K.Prahalad
Villages are an integral part of nation. They become even more important in the Asian and African
context, where a majority of population is residing in rural areas.
For centuries the rural world in India was static as a self sufficient unit of production and
consumption, but it is no longer so. The rural setting is changing every day, with the corporate
sector acting both as the carrier and bearer of the consequences of this change which is happening
at an accelerating rate. Demographic profiles and spending patterns in rural India too are changing
and marketers have to junk their old perception about rural India. Rural consumers who were on
the receiving end so far are now gradually getting into position to dictate terms for the first time.
Although there is a long way to go, the beginning has already been made.
Corporate world needs to realize that, to be successful in the rural market, they must go in with a
clear long term strategy. There must be a willingness to invest in rural market with as much
energy as they utilise to build brands in the urban one. Since rural efforts take longer to give
sustained results, they must be prepared for a long haul. Short term efforts may not deliver the
desired results on a sustained basis in rural areas.

had happened to the Palestinians after the war that brought a major division between the muslims
and the jews. This is an example of the unfair treatment that the Israeli merchants had done to the
Palestinian work force. These interactions could be directly associated with the rise of jews
moving into the area described in the book. After several hearings in April of 1946 the Anglo
American Committee of Inquiry recommended that 100, 000 people of the jewish descent be
admitted to Palestine and that there should neither be a Arab state or a Jewish state. The influx of
jews into the same areas as the arabs makes sense of the increasing competition of jobs between
the two people groups which would only cause the divide between them to grow larger and

Similarities And Differences Between Telecommuting And...
Telecommuting, remote work,[1] or telework is a work arrangement in which employees do not
commute to a central place of work. A person who telecommutes is known as a telecommuter ,
teleworker , and sometimes as a home sourced, or work at home employee. Many telecommuters
work from home, while others, sometimes called nomad workers , use mobile telecommunications
technology to work from coffee shops or other locations. According to a Reuters poll,
approximately one in five workers around the globe, particularly employees in the Middle East,
Latin America and Asia, telecommute frequently and nearly 10 percent work from home every day
.[2] Today, as annual leave or vacation is today seen as absence from the workplace rather than
ceasing work, telecommutingis used by office employees to work while on vacation.
The terms telecommuting and telework were coined by Jack Nilles in 1973.[3] ... Show more

All types of technology assisted work conducted outside of a centrally located work space
(including work undertaken in the home, outside calls, etc.) are regarded as telework.
Telecommuters often maintain a traditional office and usually work from an alternative work site
around 1 to 3 days a week.[4] Telecommuting refers more specifically to work undertaken at a
location that reduces commuting time. These locations can be inside the home or at some other
remote workplace, which is facilitated through a broadband connection, computer or phone lines,[5]

Cervical Stenosis Case Study Essay
The patient is a fifty six year old male who was admitted on 10/3/16. His reason for admission
was his involvement in a motor vehicle accident where his car was t boned by another vehicle.
Upon arrival to the emergency department, his chief complaint was his inability to detect
sensation from the nipple line down, and his inability to move his extremities. He was otherwise
alert, oriented and able to breathe on his own. After an assessment confirmed his inability to feel
anything from the chest down, a portable x ray of his chest was ordered, but this did not show any
acute findings. Multiple computed tomography scans were then ordered for his head, cervical
spine, abdomen and pelvis, chest and thoracic spine; but all of these scans resulted in no acute
findings. However, a computed tomography scan of the lumbar spine did show spinal stenosis
secondary to disc protrusion, and magnetic resonance imaging scans were then ordered for the
cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. The magnetic resonance scans showed multiple compression
fractures from the C3 to C5 vertebrae, with ligament injuries from C5 to C7, bruising of the
spinous process of C6, mass bone bruising and soft tissue injuries at C3 and C4 with edema,
severe spinal stenosis with cord compression at C3 and C4, and cord contusion at T2. The patient

Socrate and the Examined Life
The significance of the Examined life
Adrian Eames 951105878
Section leader: Elizabeth Grosz
The Trial and Death of Socrates takes place during a time in Socrates life where he becomes most
reflective. During these final moments of Socrates life a theme arises, that of the unexamined life.
Socrates claims that the unexamined life is not worth living (Apology 38a). Profound as the
statement may seem it creates many questions; what is the unexamined life? And why is the idea
of an examined life so dear to Socrates? It s clear throughout the dialogues of The Trial and Death
of Socrates has a sort of obsession with questioning the world around him, and discovering truth.
These dialogues highlight an inner struggle within Socrates as he ... Show more content on

Socrates uses his apology to to attack the wealthy and those who chase after positions of power
Wealth does not bring about excellence, but excellence makes wealth and everything else good
for men, both individually and collectively (apology 30b). This quote provides two insightful
pieces of knowledge about Socrates. The first is that it shows his perception of wealth and what it
is to be truly wealthy, to Socrates quality of life is wealth. The second is it shows that Socrates
believes that doing the right thing will lead to a better quality of life, or what he considers to be
wealth.
Above all Socrates greatest interest is the state of ones soul. While Socrates is accused and put
to death for being an atheist it is clear that Socrates does believe in the gods and in fact believes
them to be all powerful. Socrates seems aware that he is destined to be put to death from the start
of the dialogues as his main focus is always on right and wrong, pious and impious. After spending
what seems like an eternity trying to define pious and impious Socrates and Euthyphro arrive at a
dead end, Socrates shows his determination by saying so we must investigate again from the
beginning what piety is, as I shall not willingly give up before I learn this ( Euthyphro 15d). It s
clear that Socrates

Sherlock Holmes Personality
While the reasons for Sherlock Holmes popularity in the nineteenth century and the beginning of
the twentieth are comprehensible enough in the light of the abovementioned facts, the explanation
for Sherlock`s continuing success requires a more detailed analysis. Many characters that were
popular at the time of their creation are forgotten today; at the same time some images developed
hundreds of years ago are still famous and have become iconic in modern culture. Such characters
as Batman, Robin Hood, Harry Potter, Hobbits, and definitely Sherlock Holmesare the obvious
examples of such phenomena of popularity.

Socrates Analysis
A philosopher in the Socratic sense is seen as possessing knowledge beyond the scope of his
peers. Socrates ambiguously notes this the knowledge of that which is. A knowledge so
forthcoming, others are simply oblivious to the ultimate truth of the world around them, going
about their lives without ever truly knowing what is. Does such a knowledge prepare the
philosopher for efficient, auspicious governance, though, as Socrates states? Surely, our leaders
should be well informed, but leadership is a composite skill which requires skills beyond mere
knowledge that which is. The leadership necessary to most skillfully conduct over the affairs of a
regime involve dexterity, anticipation, and much calculation. However, the knowledge of what is

A democratic regime presents itself as a pure regime without despotic rulers. As such, equality is
echoed throughout the city, with equality being bestowed upon both equals and unequals alike
(558 c). The city is full of free speech and freedom, with the choice to do as one wishes, granting
the private citizens to organize their lives as it suits them (557 b). With such a variety of
dispositions found in the citizens, Socrates introduces the metaphor of a many colored cloak,
decorated in all hues, representing the most pleasant and fair looking object (557 c). The eclectic
variety of the democratic city ensures a harmony unakin to any other regime.
However, the most important similarity between the philosophic and the democratic man is their
complete absence of the compulsion to rule. The philosopher and democrat only dredge in politics
because they know it to be just and their duty (557 e). This creates a certain objectivity in
government, with the whim of the leader unimportant. Without the selfish need for pride or power,
a leader governs according to which is most advantageous for the city, and not to which is simply
advantageous for himself. With this certain lack of pettiness, a noble regime

Class Inequality And The American Class
A response to Class in America 2009 makes some good points why Americans hate the word
class. Class is a word to classify a group of people to a certain social status. Americans do not like
to be put in a category based off of their money. Gregory Mantsios the author, explains how we
view ourselves. For example, most American citizens identify themselves with work. Mantsios
gives other reasons, and a solution to fix the American class labeling. Mantsios made some
really good points about how Americas view word class, and made me agree with some of his
myth. He also presented a weak solution that would go against our government to fix the
problem of class in America. Class in America by Gregory Mantsios is a profile of class
inequality in today s society in America. He begins by mentioning that people in America, rich or
poor, do not seem to talk about class or class differences. He says that is why classes divide. He
mentions myths most Americans believe that this country is classless, and full of equal
opportunity, and replaces them with realities. These realities are that class inequality is not pretty
bad but getting worse. Emphasized by profiles of citizens of various classes. He concludes that the
main problems are capitalism, racism, and androcentric, and the solution is redistribution of wealth.
Mantsios says, Workers are most likely to identify with their employer, industry, or occupational
group (177). When you ask most people what they do for a living they

This field first became more known in the late nineteenth century. It was able to develop so much
because of the commercialization of the electric telegraph and the electrical power supply.
Electrical engineers mostly deal with power, optoelectronics, digital electronics, analog electronics,
computer science, artificial intelligence, control systems, electronics, signal processing and
telecommunications. An electrical engineer is able to create, manipulate, transmit and receive
data by electronic means such as 1 s and 0 s. What electrical engineers do is deal with problems
associated with large scale electrical systems such as power, transmission, and motor control.
Electrical engineers deal with electrical components that can span from the earth all the way to
intergalactic space. One life changing invention is that of the transistors. The transistor is small
semiconductor that allows the flow of current to a source, it is able to stop or it amplify it

Causes of Liberian Civil War
Have you ever been asked if you want long sleeves or short sleeves? If you were asked this, you
thought about shirts. In Liberia during the civil war, if the rebels caught you and asked this
question, they meant do you want your arms cut off at the shoulder or wrist. Liberia is located along
the Atlantic Coast of West Africa and its capital is Monrovia (Vinck, Pham, Kreutzer, 8). There
are about 4 million people and 17 major ethnic groups (9). Liberia s civil war between 1989 and
2003 left hundreds of thousands dead and many more affected by the extreme violence that ravaged

In the 1970 s when educated indigenous Liberians protested the raise in rice prices, the Tolbert
government violently put down the protest by killing 40 students and wounding 400 (59). This
set the stage for a group called The People s Revolutionary Council led by Samuel Doe to lead a
coup on April 12, 1980 that took over the government killing President Tolbert and many others
(61). Doe became a dictator who put his ethnic Krahn tribe in charge of everything and took all
the natural resources for his own profit (62). Any ethnic groups not of the Krahn tribe were
persecuted and many were killed (63). Due to the atrocities suffered under Doe s dictatorship,
different ethnic groups formed rebel organizations to try to defeat Doe. Charles Taylor led an
invasion into Liberia with the backing of the Gola and Mano tribes (Global Security, 2). The Gio
tribe under Prince Johnson formed its own rebel force (2). This began a bloody three way war.
Although the reason given for the civil war was to provide different ethnic groups with the right to

He states that procreative beneficence is Couples (or single reproducers) should select the child,
of the possible children they could have who is expected to have the best life, or at least as good
a life as the others, based on the relevant, available information . (Savulescu 295). This definition
suggests that people have a moral obligation to choose what is best for their child based on what
they know. He argues that there is a way to select from a large range of possible children people
could have; most commonly, this is done by using fetal selection through prenatal testing and
termination of pregnancy (Savulescu 296). Technology is already in place for procreative
beneficence , it just needs to be utilized properly. He is not arguing for the positive selection of
traits that will correspond to those that result in a better life. When he presents the example of
testing for the genetic predisposition for poor memory, he suggests that there is a positive
obligation to test for memory profiles if the results of poor memory are horrible (298).
Savulescu seems to support the idea of a decent life, but not the best life possible for all traits.
The boundaries about what defines intelligence are still vague, but plato claims that life is a
mixture of wisdom and pleasure (Savulescu 298). These factors need to be balanced, and if there is
a genetic code that selects for these traits, Savulescu would likely support them being chosen.

The first way to make more money online is to sell items on the site eBay. eBay is an online
auction and shopping website that allows you to sell your own household items online for a profit
or buy a product from the site and then resell it for a greater profit. It is probably the biggest and
most popular of this type of websites throughout the entire Internet. A good aspect of this money
making plan is that it is easy to sell products on the site.
There are some cons associated with this way of earning though. Such as the fees correlated with
the selling a product, there is more than one. Another issue is that it is not easy and a lot of work
for sometimes less than satisfactory outcome. Along with all this it can be quite difficult to
determine the right niche for your products in order to beat the heavy competition involved with
whatever it might be. All that said, there is money to be made.

History of African Americans and Higher Education Essay...
For blacks, the history of higher education typically points to segregated education. Before the Civil
War, the social system promoted the belief that blacks wouldn t get return on their time spent in
higher education. Brown and Ricard (2007) noted that most North institutions were reluctant to
allow black enrollment in colleges and universities, and in the South, where slaveholder s were still
powerhouse businessmen, slaves would never be allowed to become more educated than their
owners. The reluctance of the White leaders to allow blacks to formally be accepted into higher
educationprograms held blacks back from achieving what many aspired to, and were fully capable
of, experience.

When ex slaves demanded a formal public schooling, they were really asking the South to develop
and embrace a relatively new philosophy of education. Effectively, they were having white
southerners pay for the education of people they once owned as property, and had the right to
receive what most whites in the region hadn t had available previously. According to Anderson
(n.d.), the Reconstruction Era (1877) presented a unique problem for black professionals. Although
more blacks were becoming qualified for educational and employment opportunities, the job
demand shifted to industrial needs. For black leaders, having to get industrial training instead of a
broader, more useful education was a beneficial short term answer for employment. The primary
advocate for industrial training was Booker T. Washington. Washington, educated at the Tuskegee
Institute located in Alabama, expressed publicly that manual labor will be more beneficial to
individuals because that was the type of work available (Anderson, n.d.). On the opposite side of
Washington s argument for occupational training was W. E. B. Du Bois. Du Bois, who came from
Harvard, had higher aspirations than occupational education, with a conviction that Black life and
culture should be a primary topic of Black thought and investigation (Anderson, n.d. p.1).

##us The King As A Good Leader In King Oedipus The King
Throughout history, stories, legends, tall tales and such, are molded around leaders that have
achieved astonishing feats of heroism, although through time the great hero makes mistakes that
he cannot undo. Hardships and issues emerge from the depths of evil and mischief; the leader
struggles to stay rational as time goes on, so he begins to use everything in his power to solve the
issue. He becomes fast to temper in arguments on what should be done, he begins to focus on the
current state and doesn t take into account on what may lie ahead, but he can t seem to try and
choose what is best. In the Greek Tragedy, OedipusRex, a great leader, King Oedipus struggles to
choose what is best and remain rational so he can be true to his people. Oedipus, attempting to
out due his fate set upon him by the gods makes decisions to sometimes help himself over his
people showing him to be ineffective at leading; however, on the other hand, he tries to be as
true as he can to attempt to rid Thebes of a cursed plague, demonstrating that Oedipus is both a
ineffective and effective leader. Oedipus displays to be a good leader one must understand what
his people need and choose decisions that will benefit Thebes and the people whom live in it. By
making decisions he was able to gain the support of the people and pursues to end the plague
ravaging the city. Oedipus constantly seeked answers improve the city, he found out the reason
Thebes was cursed with a plague was due to that they were sheltering the murderer of Laius, he
then responded with a statement to all his people, If any man knows by whose hand Laius, son
Labdacus, met his death, I direct that man to tell me everything. No matter what he fears for having
so long withheld it. (Sophocles211) Oedipus begs that if anyone knows who anything even the
shortest of statements would suffice his current concern of the situation. What Oedipus doesn t
realize is how dramatically ironic his statement was, he was the one whose hands met Laius s death,
only one man knows the truth. Although, even if any man were aware of what had happened,
Oedipus would not punish the man, he would probably as well reward the man with wealth and
fame. A good leader would not punish or

Work related stress develops because a person is unable to cope with the demands being placed
on them. Stress, including work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and is
known to be linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other issues such as
more errors. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a
motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform
better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when
they perceive that the demands of their work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping
means balancing the demands and pressures placed on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your
skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example, if you give a member of your team a
tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills nor ability to do well, they may
begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress. Stress can also result
from having too few demands, as people will become bored, feel undervalued and lack
recognition. If they feel they have little or no say over the work they do or how they do it, this
may cause them stress. Stress affects people in different ways and what one person finds stressful
can be normal to another. With each new situation a person will decide what

Gender Differences In The Wonder Woman, Like Superman
Throughout my research paper I am going to compare and contrast the differences between how
everyday people look at a female superhero, like Wonder Woman, and male superhero, like
Superman. In the paper, I would like to look at the differences in the amount of clothing Wonder
Woman has on and the amount of clothes a male superheronormally has on. I would also like to
look at the physical differences the two genders have when it comes to muscle physique.
Another interesting topic to look at is how we look at a female character and a male character, as
in who the intended audience is. I would like to look at superhero action figures, and show how
the boy toy section differs from the girl section when it comes to superheroes. Even though
Wonder Woman is just as powerful and important as other male superheros she is often easily
centered out from other superheroes because of her physique, lack of clothes, sex appeal and her
gender.
One could use this source in order to compare and contrast the differences between the boy toy
sections and the girl toy sections in stores. In the article, Paige Averett explains how her and her
friend went to the store to look for a Wonder Woman toy, but failed to find a single Wonder Woman
action figure. Averett explains, No Wonder Woman. But even more fascinating was that she was on
a group of packages but not actually made into a figurine. Wonder Woman is a character in the
League of Justice, and all the other characters, all male,

How Insects Are Affected By Different Food And...
Animal behavior can be defined as how animals respond to different environmental inducements
(Schussler 2014). Furthermore, by studying how animal s react to these stimulus we can
determine what shapes an animals behavior. In addition, the way an insect travels can define how
prosperous or how non prosperous an insect will be in finding vital resources such as finding
nutrients, reproducing, and their habitat location (Romero et. al. 2010). One interesting question is
how insects are affected by different food and environmental ques. Based upon earlier research
conducted by Stephen P. Yanoviak, insects prefer salt when compared against to sugar because
they are less exposed to salt. (Sanders 2008). For that reason, in this study we are investigating how
the flour beetle(Tribolium spp.) is affected by a variety of food resources. From earlier research
conducted on ground beetles, the researchers found that beetles feast on a variety of food sources
(Lovei Sunderland, 1996). The reason we are studying this is because we believe that the type food
sourceplays a dynamic role in flour beetle behavior. One question that lead us to perform this
study is that food is a vital resource that beetles must have to survive. We wanted to see what food
sources is most influential and why. This study was focused on how beetle behavior is influenced
by a variety of food sources. We conducted two test in this study. We based our first hypothesis
off
of earlier research on the topic.

Bill Lentsch, Delta s S.V.P. Airport Customer Service and Cargo Operations, said. We appreciate
the hard work of our employees and think the SkySpa will add real value to the airport work
environment (as cited in Thomas, 2015, para 8). Providing such an atmosphere and a place of

According to Delta s S.V.P Allison Ausband stated the following: making sure our employees are
well taken care of and have the tools to look and perform their best is something we re proud to
do for our people. We know working at the airport or on board can take a toll, and offering the

Flight Service (as cited in Thomas, 2015, para. 3). With Delta making strides such as this, they are
communicating with their employees that there are ways to relax even when at work and that can
help to cut down on the stress that a person is facing. Delta is also communicating to their
organization that their health and well being is important. As an organization there are some things
that can be done to help prevent stress according to Nelson and Quick (2013) job redesign, goal

these components serve to motivate the employees towards higher performance standards. The

California is a democratic republic consisting of three branches of government. The first is the
executive branch, i.e. the governor and a group of elected constitutional officers. Second is the
judicial branch which consists of the Supreme Court of California and the various local courts.
Officials are appointed by the Governor and ratified in the next general election. The third branch of
government in Californiais the legislative branch. It is a bicameral body which includes California

In 1910, California Progressive Party member Hiram Johnson ran for governor. Restore absolute
sovereignty to the people that we may yet live in a free republic was his slogan. In years prior to
the election Californians began to notice a trend in their state government. Californians were not
being represented properly by the legislature (Kesler). This is a reflection of California at the time.
The gold rush had brought massive amounts of people into the state. This led to an unprecedented
opportunity for new business. The Southern Pacific Railroad among other big business infiltrated
politics and corruption followed for decades. Law makers passed laws which benefited them. The
Progressives sought to give the people greater say in making and dismantling legislation. In doing
so the Legislative branch lost power.
To accomplish their goal in 1911 they enacted the ballot measures in order for citizens to bypass
legislature approval and have a measure placed on the ballot. An initiative is a proposal for a new
law that allows any citizen or organization to gather a state defined amount of citizen signatures to
qualify. Another ballot measure enacted by the Progressives is a popular eferendum. This allows
citizens to create a ballot measure to repeal a specific legislative act by gaining a predetermined
number of signatures. Voters ratified these amendments in a special election of October 10, 1911
(Initiative Reform Institute).
Since their enactment,

Compatibilism Vs Calvinism
Third, the two will concept is not explicit in Scripture; whereas, as cited by Piper, the express will

Ezekiel 18:23, 32; 33:11). Both terms thГ©l? (1 Timothy 2:4) and boГєlomai (2 Peter 3:9) are used

various distinctions that may matter in Extensivist soteriological approaches are distinctions

Surely the Calvinists endeavor to defend the two wills of God makes their claim of sola scriptura
seem a frail stalwart for defending the sufficiency of Scripture against foes who employ the same
tactics; an ineffectualness born and sustained by their own forays into the academy of secrecy to
bolster their theology when it conflicts with explicit revelation.
David Engelsma, a strong Calvinist, says of this position and the Calvinists who retreat to mystery
that God is gracious only to some in predestination, but gracious to all in the gospel, and that God
wills only some to be saved in predestination but wills all to be saved by the gospel, is flat,
irreconcilable contradiction. It is not paradox, but contradiction. I speak reverently: God Himself

The, A Independent Label Executive Essay
As a Independent label Executive; I am in a constant game of playing the sheep in a padded

Purpose Of Epic Theatre
Epic theatre is always intended for the actors quite as much as for the spectators. The essential
reason why the didactic play falls into a category of its own is that, through the exceptional
austerity of its apparatus, it facilitates and encourages the interchangeability of actors and audience,
audience and actors. Every spectator can become one of the actors . (Walter Benjamin). What do
you discern as the didactic element of Mother Courage and Her Children and how does it relate to
dramatic form/ theatrical techniques?
Is Theatre for Pleasure or Theatre for Instruction?
Epic theatre refers to a form of drama that attracts spectator s mind more than his feelings. The term
was developed and adopted by Bertolt Brecht in Germany in 1920 s. Epic theatre presents a
narrative which turns the observer into spectator. The main aim of epic theatre is to arouse the
spectator s capacity to take action by provoking rational self reflection. Brecht has followed the
epic theatre because he realised that the traditional theatre of his time is inadequate for his
purposes. Epic theatre serves the purpose of social function. Through its narrative, Brecht presents
social, political and economic problems. His main aim is to invoke the audience into analysing
the play rather than getting attached with the characters or the plot. This form was empolyed by
Brecht in his play Mother Courage and Her Children which was performed in 1941. The play
consists of twelve scenes that tackles the thirty year war (1618 1648) between Sweden and Poland.

You wake up this morning get out bed trying to decide what to wear today. You check the
weather app on your phone and see that it will be sunny and warm outside with zero chance of
rain. You throw on your flip flops and shorts and head outside to begin your day. Weather can be
quite predictable in this day and age. High tech technology and decades of weatherknowledge have
allowed us to predict the weather with great accuracy, but it was not always this way. Isaac Cline,
a meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Bureau failed to understand what was happening in

arrogance became known when they received a warning of a hurricane from Cuba. Cuba at the
time was becoming quite knowledgeable of hurricanes. Moore felt as they were no match for the
technologically advanced Weather Bureau so he halted telegraphs during the peak of hurricane
season. Instead of listening to the Cuban warnings and sounding the alarm, the Weather Bureau
chose to remain silent. Isaac noticed something was amiss when he noticed the swells of the ocean.

Analysis Of The Film Portrait Of Disability
Portrait of Disability in the Film Industry
Perceptions and stereotypes of people with disabilities have tended to remain the same over the
past year, despite the continual progressing technology and legal rights. People with physical and
mental disabilities are stigmatized because their bodies and minds do not reflect the norm.
Different organizations and scholars have argued that the film industry in most of the cases has
unjustly represented disabled people. Using the method of observation to analyze A Beautiful Mind
(2001), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), The Intouchables (2012), and Me Before You (2016) one

Human Nature And Savagery In William Golding s Lord Of The...
Man is at bottom a wild and terrible animal. We know him only as what we call civilization has
tamed and trained him to be; hence we are alarmed by the occasional breaking out of his true
nature. But whenever the locks and chains of law and order are cast off, and anarchy comes in, he
shows himself for what he really is. Arthur Schopenhauer
In today s world, human behaviours are driven by the civilization preset by society. In the rare
occasion that the civilization is taken away, humans unveil their true selves: animals with a savage
and evil nature. In 1954, after leaving the Royal Navy, William Golding wrote his story Lord of
the Flies, which focuses on a group of young boys stranded on an island after their plane crashed. ...

I thought, by myself The madness came into his eyes again. I thought I might kill (51). This
quotation shows the change in character from innocent to savage. Jack, who started the story off
as simply a selfish British boy now has a compulsion to kill . Jack s evil nature is starting to
appear and this nature is swallowing him up . This connects to The Garden of Eden because in that
story it is shown that Adam and Eve start out innocent, but as time goes on their natural evil is
released and they sin by taking the apple from the tree. The allegory shown by Jack s action
exhibits how this story is an example of the unveiling of evil and savage when taken from
civilization. The boy s natural savage appears moments after they are released from civilization.
In Lord of The Flies, Golding also uses the characterization of Ralph to illustrate how the natural
savage is inescapable and that no matter one tries they can t change that. For a majority of the
story Ralph is seen as the most innocent and civilized. From the moment they arrive on the island,
Ralph spends a lot of time trying to keep order and stop the savage actions of Jack and his group.
Though he tries to stay completely innocent, even Ralph begins to reveal evil traits on the island.

My Journey From Southeast High School At The University Of...
Everyone has had a different journey of getting to college. Now that I have gotten to college I
want to reflect on my journey from Southeast High School to the University of Central Florida

about some challenges I experienced so far. Also, I want to tell you about how collegehas been so

about what went well in high school, some challenges, my college experiences and also how my
professors would describe me, this will have shown you my college journey so far. I went to a
relatively small high school by the name of Southeast High School during the four years there I
did the IB program, which had an even smaller class around forty five kids. There are three
experiences I would like to talk about. One experience would be my participation in the IB
program, which allowed me to be better prepared for college. Having a IB class under fifty
allowed for many of the students to succeed in every class and on the IB exams. My family was
very supported in my decision to join the IB program. Secondly, since the first day of middle
school, I was involved in an origination called the Technology Student Association (TSA), I

  • 2. Speech-Language Pathology Research Paper A Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is a specialist who evaluates and treats patients or students with speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages, according to MedicineNet (MedicineNet). People of all ages can struggle with speaking whether it be articulating letters, stuttering or dyslexia. It is easiest to help correct these challenges at a younger age, but not impossible when you are older. Regardless of the age or the reason behind the treatment, the most important part is that the individual receives the therapy that is needed to help them reach their optimum ability in communication and speaking. Before starting this project, I didn t know very much about Speech Language Pathology. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While with Ms. Smith, I was able to learn more about the difference between Medical Speech Language Pathology and School Speech Language Pathology. One of the major differences was the schooling you have to go through to become each type of pathologist. In a school, they require a masters to pass the national test, and a teaching certificate, where as a medical SLP s need a masters to pass the national test, and a certificate of clinician competence. Another difference is what each type of pathology pays. A school pathologist starts at around $40,000 a year with a scheduled step raise yearly of between $2,500 to $3,000. Medical SLP s start out at around $10,000 more than in a school and can increase significantly more over time. According to Learn.org, the highest mean salary someone can expect to receive in a hospital/laboratory setting is about $105,680 as of 2015 (Learn.org). One question I was eager to learn more about was how exactly does an SLP help children? While researching this question, I came across a video that explains exactly how it helps children. Speech Language Pathology can help with children s communication skills. It allows them to better understand what is being said to them and how to express themselves to others. It encourages them to talk with others more, and improves reading and writing skills. Communication can impact a child s social skills and can be an area kids may struggle. With some help with their speech, they can share a common focus with another person, play with others and share toys, understand feelings, and make friends. Overall, Speech Language Pathology helps them interact better with people around them and makes them feel more comfortable in a classroom (ASHA). One last thing that I was able to come to a conclusion on was the common terminology used as a Speech Language Pathologist. Like most fields of study, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. By a research conducted at the Registrar-General s... By a research conducted at the Registrar General s Department, it has been seen that far back early as 1800 s, the Registrar General s Department has been a 100% paper based environment. All transaction including registration of deeds, selling or interchanged of property, state land lease documents and site plan were solely on hardcopy. Deeds search was done by manual procedures, which mean an individual has to go through many archived books to search a specific document. From 2010 onwards, the Registrar General s Department has been using a computer platform which has modernised land administration. This has been possible when the Information Management System (IMS) has been put in place by the Government. Following LAVIMS ACT in 2008, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They brought the aeroplane equipped with three digital cameras which have photographed the island. To be able to use this aerial photo as a digital cadastre, a control network (Geodetic Datum) had to be implemented to support the DCDB. Therefore the Ministry of Housing and Lands (MHL) identified the need to develop a new geodetic datum to support and maintain the Digital Cadastral Database DCDB. In 2008, Landgate (Australia) had assessed all available geodetic survey data comprising the 1934 triangulation survey, and GPS surveys conducted in 1994 and 2001. After his analysis Langate revealed that these surveys, either in combination or singularly, had not sufficient level of accuracy for the basis of a new geodetic datum. Moreover, new GPS observations were required to be able to position the Island of Mauritius accurately in a global sense. Landgate recommended the MHL to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Anti Federalist Argument Against A Weaker Federal... The focus point of the anti federalist argument revolved around the support of a weaker federal government. After the Declaration of Independence was signed, there was a necessity to unite the nation. A way was needed to govern the land amassed by the thirteen colonies. On the twelfth of July, 1776, eight days after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Second Continental Congress began efforts to create the fundamental principles on which to govern the nation while managing the colonial war effort. Once a version was complete it was sent to be ratified by the states in 1777. Ratification by the states was completed in 1781. This document is known as the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation were deliberately weak, which followed logically after breaking away from the strong British government. There was however a group that opposed the weak federal government created by the Articles of Confederation, and they came to be known as the federalists. The group that supported a weaker government thus came to be known as the anti federalists. As the government played out on the nations stage, members of the anti federalist party would change, uphold or augment their ideals. The Articles of Confederation failed because of its deliberate lack of power. It was inherently weak first and foremost because it called for a confederacy which gave sovereign power to the states. We see this in Article II, which states that: Each state retains its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pop Art showed what was popular in American culture; products, celebrities, etc. Andy Whorl s career started out as a commercial artist. Some of his fellow artists admired him and his work, while other did not consider him a true artist. He displayed some of his work in museums and became famous. A friend of Andy told him to make art based on everyday things, so Andy made his famous picture of the multiple Campbell s soup cans. Whorl used mass production to make some of his artwork like the Ten Lizes featuring Elizabeth Taylor. His mass production method involved silk screening. Before he could make the silk screen products, he had to have the images enlarged several times. His studio, which he called The Factory , had three locations throughout New York City. Andy Whorl used consumerism in his art. He made prints of pictures of famous people like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor. Some of his artwork has sublime tones of death. During 1939 through 1945, Russian took part in World War II heavily and were led by Dictator Joseph Stalin. Following the war, Russia was in a nuclear arms race with America, riding on everyone s fear of there being a World War III and a nuclear war. Post World War II Russia and the rest of the Soviet Unionhad very poor living conditions due to the mass of poverty. In 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis took place, which was also known as the October Crisis. This was when American President John F. Kennedy was informed that there were Soviet nuclear tipped missiles in Cuba where he then made a deal with Soviet President Nikita Khrushchev where America would not invade Cuba as long as the Soviet Union withdrew its missiles. Following this was the Brezhnev Era, Soviet Union circa 1964 through 1982, in the Soviet Union. The Brezhnev Era is the time in the Soviet Union that Leonid Brezhnev was in power of Russia and the Soviet Union from October 1964 through November 1982. • 9. Joe Henderson Recording Style Briana Merritt Music 131 November 9, 2016 Recording Review Title: So Far So Near Release Date: 1993 Label: Verve Records Name: Joe Henderson Cultural Heritage: American Jazz saxophonist Liner Notes: The liner notes provide detail on the style Joe uses. It says how he uses harsh tones and blunt rhythms, and how his solos were architectural with recognizable elements. All these things added up to make Joe stand out and make is own style. Though he has he own style, So Near, So Far is a departure from his earlier work. Historically, in the 60 s Henderson stood in the shadow of people like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman and a few others, but his records stood with the jazz world. The information given in the notes is enough to understand that Joe Henderson had his own style that may or may not have been influenced by the people worked for/with. • 10. A Comparison of Fahrenheit 451 and Dover Beach Essay Fahrenheit 451 is a well written book that tells a story of a dream world and one man who wakes up from that dream. Montag, the protagonist of the story, brings home a book of poetry one day and begins to read the poem Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold to his wife and her guests. Many critics think that Bradbury picked this poem because it paralleled life in his book. The poem Dover Beach can be compared to Fahrenheit 451 because both pieces of writing talk about themes of true love, fantasy and allover hopelessness. One of the ways Fahrenheit 451 can be related to Arnold s Dover Beach is by connecting the absense of true love in both of them. Throughout the book, Montag slowly ... Their land of nonsense information is their dream world that people live in without thinking of other possibilities for living. The beauty of the real world is masked by the tall buildings of the city, which the firemen keep up to make the people happy. When people are discovered hiding books in their houses, they are letting the light of the real world show through. Outside of the city, the real world really shines through. The gang of men who memorize books is showing that the real world does exist, though it cannot fully be real without the actual books. In the poem Dover Beach, Arnold says quot;the world, which seems to lie before us like a land of dreams, so various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light, Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain... quot;. This can be compared to Bradbury s dream world of the city, which is a land of dreams, yet has no real love, joy, or peace. Yet, quot;we are here as on a darkling plain quot;. This view wasn t necessarily because Romney followed Republican policy to a T but rather because of Obama s disastrous job with the economy in the previous four years. History was well in the minds of most Republicans in that particular matter since no president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt had ever won a presidency after the economy had gone as low as it did and was in a serious struggle to rebound. • 15. Mutjinga Myth Summary The story about Mutjinga, a woman of spiritual and asomatous power, is a tale that seeks to explain the relationships between men and women in early Australian societies, while also tying these motifs and themes into the greater collective Dreamtime cosmology of the Aboriginals. This story suggests that women and men did not hold tantamount positions within their early societies justifying the superiority of men, while also implying that there was a time when women had the upper hand, and may return to challenge male authority once again. To explain, the myth illustrates that in the Dreamtimeland of the Murinbata people, a place existed where an old womannamed Mutjinga, a woman of power, lived. Aboriginals believed that all the things in the world had both a palpable physical form as well as a spirit form, which was invisible. When living things passed away, it was regarded that their spirits went to a secret cave, of which Mutjinga was the caretaker; and only Mutjinga had the power to speak with these spirits. The tale insinuates, that women, such as Mutjinga, once had the power and authority over men, because they possessed abilities men did not have. As evidenced in The Man Eater: The Mutjinga Myth, Mutjinga could speak with the spirits. Because she had this power, she could do many things which men could not. They become even more important in the Asian and African context, where a majority of population is residing in rural areas. Gregory Mantsios the author, explains how we view ourselves. For example, most American citizens identify themselves with work. He argues that there is a way to select from a large range of possible children people could have; most commonly, this is done by using fetal selection through prenatal testing and termination of pregnancy (Savulescu 296). Technology is already in place for procreative beneficence , it just needs to be utilized properly. When he presents the example of testing for the genetic predisposition for poor memory, he suggests that there is a positive obligation to test for memory profiles if the results of poor memory are horrible (298). Savulescu seems to support the idea of a decent life, but not the best life possible for all traits. The boundaries about what defines intelligence are still vague, but plato claims that life is a mixture of wisdom and pleasure (Savulescu 298). According to Anderson (n.d.), the Reconstruction Era (1877) presented a unique problem for black professionals. The primary advocate for industrial training was Booker T. Washington. On the opposite side of Washington s argument for occupational training was W. E. B. Du Bois. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform better. Furthermore, by studying how animal s react to these stimulus we can determine what shapes an animals behavior. In addition, the way an insect travels can define how prosperous or how non prosperous an insect will be in finding vital resources such as finding nutrients, reproducing, and their habitat location (Romero et. al. 2010). One interesting question is how insects are affected by different food and environmental ques. Based upon earlier research conducted by Stephen P. Yanoviak, insects prefer salt when compared against to sugar because they are less exposed to salt. (Sanders 2008). For that reason, in this study we are investigating how the flour beetle(Tribolium spp.) is affected by a variety of food resources. From earlier research conducted on ground beetles, the researchers found that beetles feast on a variety of food sources (Lovei Sunderland, 1996). The reason we are studying this is because we believe that the type food sourceplays a dynamic role in flour beetle behavior. One question that lead us to perform this study is that food is a vital resource that beetles must have to survive. We wanted to see what food sources is most influential and why. David Engelsma, a strong Calvinist, says of this position and the Calvinists who retreat to mystery that God is gracious only to some in predestination, but gracious to all in the gospel, and that God wills only some to be saved in predestination but wills all to be saved by the gospel, is flat, irreconcilable contradiction. It is not paradox, but contradiction. I speak reverently: God Himself cannot reconcile these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Purpose Of Epic Theatre Epic theatre is always intended for the actors quite as much as for the spectators. The essential reason why the didactic play falls into a category of its own is that, through the exceptional austerity of its apparatus, it facilitates and encourages the interchangeability of actors and audience, audience and actors. Every spectator can become one of the actors . (Walter Benjamin). What do you discern as the didactic element of Mother Courage and Her Children and how does it relate to dramatic form/ theatrical techniques? Is Theatre for Pleasure or Theatre for Instruction? Epic theatre refers to a form of drama that attracts spectator s mind more than his feelings. The term was developed and adopted by Bertolt Brecht in Germany in 1920 s. Epic theatre presents a narrative which turns the observer into spectator. The main aim of epic theatre is to arouse the spectator s capacity to take action by provoking rational self reflection. Brecht has followed the epic theatre because he realised that the traditional theatre of his time is inadequate for his purposes. Epic theatre serves the purpose of social function. Through its narrative, Brecht presents social, political and economic problems. His main aim is to invoke the audience into analysing the play rather than getting attached with the characters or the plot. • 50. Isaac s Storm Book Report You wake up this morning get out bed trying to decide what to wear today. You check the weather app on your phone and see that it will be sunny and warm outside with zero chance of rain. You throw on your flip flops and shorts and head outside to begin your day. Weather can be quite predictable in this day and age. High tech technology and decades of weatherknowledge have allowed us to predict the weather with great accuracy, but it was not always this way. Isaac Cline, a meteorologist for the U.S. Weather Bureau failed to understand what was happening in Galveston before it was too late. On September 8, 1900, no one was ready for what was about to happen to this prosperous port city. A monster hurricane swept in and destroyed the city killing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wanting to maintain the prominent presence of weather forecasting, the Bureau took its orders from the chief Willis L. Moore. Moore wanted the meteorologists to refrain from stirring up a public scare in the event of a hurricane unless they were given permission to do so. Moore s arrogance became known when they received a warning of a hurricane from Cuba. Cuba at the time was becoming quite knowledgeable of hurricanes. Moore felt as they were no match for the technologically advanced Weather Bureau so he halted telegraphs during the peak of hurricane season. Instead of listening to the Cuban warnings and sounding the alarm, the Weather Bureau chose to remain silent. Isaac noticed something was amiss when he noticed the swells of the ocean. • 52. Human Nature And Savagery In William Golding s Lord Of The... Man is at bottom a wild and terrible animal. We know him only as what we call civilization has tamed and trained him to be; hence we are alarmed by the occasional breaking out of his true nature. But whenever the locks and chains of law and order are cast off, and anarchy comes in, he shows himself for what he really is. Arthur Schopenhauer In today s world, human behaviours are driven by the civilization preset by society. In the rare occasion that the civilization is taken away, humans unveil their true selves: animals with a savage and evil nature. In 1954, after leaving the Royal Navy, William Golding wrote his story Lord of the Flies, which focuses on a group of young boys stranded on an island after their plane crashed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought, by myself The madness came into his eyes again. I thought I might kill (51). This quotation shows the change in character from innocent to savage. Jack, who started the story off as simply a selfish British boy now has a compulsion to kill . Jack s evil nature is starting to appear and this nature is swallowing him up . This connects to The Garden of Eden because in that story it is shown that Adam and Eve start out innocent, but as time goes on their natural evil is released and they sin by taking the apple from the tree. The allegory shown by Jack s action exhibits how this story is an example of the unveiling of evil and savage when taken from civilization. The boy s natural savage appears moments after they are released from civilization. In Lord of The Flies, Golding also uses the characterization of Ralph to illustrate how the natural savage is inescapable and that no matter one tries they can t change that. For a majority of the story Ralph is seen as the most innocent and civilized. From the moment they arrive on the island, Ralph spends a lot of time trying to keep order and stop the savage actions of Jack and his group. Though he tries to stay completely innocent, even Ralph begins to reveal evil traits on the island. I went to a relatively small high school by the name of Southeast High School during the four years there I did the IB program, which had an even smaller class around forty five kids. There are three experiences I would like to talk about. One experience would be my participation in the IB program, which allowed me to be better prepared for college. Having a IB class under fifty allowed for many of the students to succeed in every class and on the IB exams. My family was very supported in my decision to join the IB program. Secondly, since the first day of middle school, I was involved in an origination called the Technology Student Association (TSA), I continued this club onto high school and I plan on becoming a alumni.
