Introduction
• At University, I am applying to mostly Media
Production Courses that specialise in Film and
TV, however I am hoping to get on a TV
production course as I think TV is a wider
platform that doesn’t just include the filming
of dramas but news broadcasting and
documentary making.
Academic History
• Sadly my secondary school didn’t offer many
media based courses, however I took GCSE Digital
Graphics which was my first large introduction to
programmes such as photoshop, and I also took
iMedia which was a mixture of practical as well as
critical studies into the sector. These courses set
me up for moving on to college where I am
currently taking Level 3 Media Production, which
involves many of the aspects I had learnt at GCSE,
however allows me to push myself to a higher
level.
Current Study
• By taking the Level 3 Media Production Course, I have been able to experiment with
lots of different aspects of media such as Audio, Game Design, and also Music Video
production and Print work, which has really solidified in me that I want a career in the
media sector. The course has also introduced me to lots of new kit that I hadn’t
worked with before such as LED lightboxes, and programmes I hadn’t used before
such as Adobe Audition. I have also learnt lots more new skills with this course, as I
have been able to really focus on the product and think why I have done it this way
and not that way. I have also improved by working with programmes such as Premier
Pro and Photoshop in a way I hadn’t improved before and I feel really confident with
these applications now. I have really enjoyed on this course how we do lots of smaller
projects in the different areas of media production I had mentioned, and see what
aspects we liked, and also do something that is completely ours, and not too
managed by a syllabus. I am really excited to move onto further education and
continue with Media Production, as I am looking forward to working in settings
similar to real life, with a mixture of people, and be submerged into new and exciting
projects, where we will have more resources, and more people in our production
teams to contribute and create new ideas.
The Future
• In the future I would like to work in either the TV or Film
Sector, mostly behind the scenes in the production/ post
production jobs, such as editing, cinematography ect.
Currently I am not 100% certain of what job I would like to
specialise in, as I enjoy many areas of production and post
production work, however I am hoping going to university
and working on more projects in different roles will help
me decide this. I would also be interested in doing
freelance work in the future once I have decided the sector
I want to work in, as it would give me the ability to work for
myself and have freedom in work life, but I would prefer to
work for a company as I think it would give me more
security and better networking connections.
Outside College
• Outside of college I currently have a part-time job working at a BnB
where I have been for almost 3 years. My hobbies include drawing
and sketching, and I am currently trying to develop my art style so I
can translate it onto some hand drawn animation work. I enjoy
watching films, going to the cinema, and I also like going to music
events such as gigs and festivals, where I enjoy being around people
who have similar interests to me. I also find it fun to take
photographs and videos there to document my evening, and I have
used some of these images in projects at college. These attributes
would make me a good candidate for university because I like to
throw myself into new things, and when I have people around me
that enjoy doing the same things too and have the same passions
as me, I find that I flourish, and that I tend to feel more confident,
which may transfer over to my work at the university as well as
independent projects.
Conclusion
• Overall, I have always known that university was going to be an important
step in the right direction to reach a successful career in the Film and TV
industry. It will give me valuable life experience to grow as a person, as
well as giving me the experience I will need to move closer to my career
goals. I would be a great candidate for university, as I enjoy learning and
don’t take for granted the opportunities I have been given, and I feel
passionately about the projects and the people I work with, and I believe
that this helps me work harder and keep me motivated. I am so excited to
take the first steps into adulthood, and do it whilst studying and working
on projects that will directly help me in my future enterprises. I am excited
not only for the ups, but the downs when things might not go so well, as it
is all a learning curve and I want to learn and grow. University is going to
be an important factor for me, as in the Media industry, especially film and
TV, experience is so important, and being able to show up to a job, and
immediately begin what you have been asked to do. I cannot wait to
begin the next step of my life as well as my education.
