This document discusses the three main types of natural selection: stabilizing selection, directional selection, and disruptive selection. Stabilizing selection preserves existing traits by eliminating extreme variants, directional selection favors individuals with more extreme traits better suited to the environment, and disruptive selection favors intermediate and extreme trait values over median traits. Examples are given for each type of selection, like clam size in disruptive selection.
