2. What is Transducer ?
 Transducer is Device which converts one Energy form to another form.
 It can divide into two main part.
 i) Electrical Transducer
 ii) Mechanical Transducer

3. Electrical Transducer
 It is Device which converts the Non-Electrical quantity into Electrical
quantity.
 E.g. Strain, Temp., Pressure, Displacement, etc. into Voltage, Current,
Resistance, etc.

 It is classified according to their structure, application, energy conversion,
etc.
 Active and Passive
 Analog and Digital
 Primary and Secondary
 Transducer and Inverse Transducer

5. Active and Passive
 Transducers are not need any external source of power for their operation
is called ACTIVE TRANSDUCERS.
 e.g. Thermocouple, Photocell, etc.

 Transducers are need external source of power for their operation is
called PASSIVE TRANDUCER.
 e.g. Thermistor, LVDT, etc.

7. Analog and Digital
 The output of transducers is in analog form that means it is a continuous
function of time is called ANALOG TRANSDUCER.
 e.g. Thermocouple, LVDT, Strain Gauge, etc.

8. Analog and Digital
 The output of transducers is in digital form that means it is in form of
digital pulses discrete in time is called DIGITAL TRANSDUCER.
 e.g. Optical Encoder and Shaft Encoder.

9. Primary and Secondary
 Some transducer have mechanical as well as electrical devices. The
mechanical device converts physical quantity to be measured into
mechanical signal. This device called PRIMARY TRANSDUCER.
 The electrical device then converts this mechanical signal in to electrical
signal. This device known as SECONDARY TRANSDUCER.
