Understanding Pupil Motivation
• One thing to consider is the expectancy-value
theory.
• The degree to which a pupil is motivated to
engage in an academic task is jointly determined
by his expectancy for success and by the value
that he has attached to a specific task.
• Why am I doing this? + Will I be successful at it?
= Level of student motivation
• Pupils actively participate and asking
immediate feedback about their
performance.
• Pupils brave enough to practice newly
acquired skills and knowledge.
• Pupils are able to develop self directed
learning without depending too much on
the teacher.
• Pupils are able to relate the content and
activities to their daily lives.
