Report #1 Checks and Balances After reading Chapter 2 of your t.docxaudeleypearl
Report #1: Checks and Balances
After reading Chapter 2 of your text, “The Constitution,” and watching the C-Span video “Checks and Balances: Intentions of the Founders” (link to the video below, it is about an hour and a half long), write a brief report. The report should contain three separate sections that address all the points in each question. Notice the expected word count for each section (exceeding the word count will not negatively affect your grade, but please try to stay within the range).
1. Based on your reading of Chapter 2 of the text, describe the major checks and balances in the Constitution that are intended to limit the power of each of the three branches of government. Be specific in indicating how each branch checks the others. (approximately 200-250 words)
2. According to the discussion in the video, what makes some people worry that these checks and balances are not as effective as they once were in limiting power (particularly the power of the president)? What possible reforms or changes might be needed to restore the balance of power among the branches? (approximately 200-250 words)
3. List and describe two points made during the discussion on the video concerning checks and balances that you found particularly interesting, novel, or insightful. (approximately 100-150 words)
Be careful not to plagiarize. If you want to quote directly from your book or from the video, do so by using quotation marks and by indicating the page number (if available). But try to do this sparingly and simply use your own words in addressing the questions.
In your writing, use an analytical tone that is free of your personal opinions. In other words, try to answer the questions in a straightforward and objective manner.

Article Critique Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
Articles are written to inform, misinform, influence, or misdirect, among other reasons. Sometimes they serve as nothing more than a vehicle for an author to
achieve fame, notoriety, and wealth. You should never take at face value the elements of any article you read, but you should be able to:
• Differentiate between fact and opinion
• Recognize and evaluate author bias and rhetoric
• Determine cause-and-effect relationships
• Determine accuracy and completeness of information presented
• Recognize logical fallacies and faulty reasoning
• Compare and contrast information and points of view
• Develop inferential skills
• Make judgments and draw logical conclusions
When writing an article critique, you will need to summarize, evaluate, and offer critical comment on the ideas and information that the author(s) presents in
the article.
Starting in Module Two, you are assigned two articles to read, which are located in Module Resources for that specific module. You have to select one of the two
articles and write a critique of it. In your paper, cite any and all information taken f ...

Assessment 3: Reflective Learning Journal
Weight: 35%
Task Description:
You are required to maintain a record of what you have learned from readings, lectures and class discussions and incorporate them in a written report of 1800 words (plus or minus 10%), excluding cover page, contents, references and appendices.
The report is to comprise three main components:
1. Reflective observation — what you consider you have learned from the course:
• What did you notice or learn that you want to remember?
• How did what you have learned relate to your previous personal/professional experience?
2. Abstract generalisation — your conclusions from the learning outcomes:
What conclusions, principles, or guidelines can you draw from what you have learned from the course?
• About what you have learned from the topics covered?
• About your prior assumptions regarding the topics covered?
• About yourself?
3. Application — how you are going to apply what you have learned from the course:
• To future academic assignments (this course and/or others)?
• As a change agent/leader in the workplace?
Marking Criteria:
• Understanding and critical analyses of course concepts, theories and frameworks
• Evidence of critical reflection and evaluation of what you have learned
• Demonstrated ability to synthesise and apply course information to your future studies and or/work
• Report presentation (clarity, internal flow, referencing)
Reflective Learning Journal
Step 1: Record your reflections
· Use the Reflective Log Template (table attached below, full version can be found under the ‘Assessment tab’ at [email protected] to record your learning activities throughout the semester.
· The three columns in the learning log correspond with the three sections in the report.
· Reflections can be recorded during or closely after the sessions.
· The focus of the reflection could be the weekly lecture topic, or you may like to focus on a particular reading for the week.
· Remember you will need to incorporate at least 6 of the weekly readings into the final report.

Discussion Assignment Instructions
Instructions
The student will complete 4 Discussions in this course.
As you read the chapters assigned to each week, you will find some concepts more interesting and applicable to your personal or work situation than others. Review the key terms listed in the assigned chapters; then, choose a key term that you wish to write on for your thread.
Include the exact key term you selected in your thread’s subject line.
Thread (600 words minimum)
After you have successfully chosen the key term that interests you the most, research a minimum of 5 recent international business/management articles that relate to the concept on which you wish to focus your research. Articles must be found in reputable professional and/or scholarly journals and/or business/trade journals that deal with the content of the course (i.e., not blogs, Wikipedia, newspapers, etc.). After reading the articles, select the 1 article that you wish to discuss.
It is highly recommended that you use Liberty University’s Jerry Falwell Library online resources. A link is provided in the Discussion Assignment Resources. A librarian is available to assist you in all matters pertaining to conducting your research, including what constitutes a scholarly article.
Your thread must be placed in the Discussion textbox and adhere precisely to the following headings and format:
1. Key Termand Why You Are Interested in It (100 words minimum)
After reading the textbook, specifically state why you are interested in conducting further research on this key term (e.g., academic curiosity, application to a current issue related to employment, or any other professional rationale). Include a substantive reason, not simply a phrase.
2. Explanation of the Key Term(100 words minimum)
Provide a clear and concise overview of the essentials relevant to understanding this key term.
3. Major Article Summary(200 words minimum)
Using your own words, provide a clear and concise summary of the article, including the major points and conclusions.
4. Discussion
In your own words, discuss each of the following points:
a. How the cited work relates to your above explanation AND how it relates specifically to the content of the assigned module. This part of your thread provides evidence that you have extended your understanding of this key term beyond the textbook readings. (100 words minimum)
b. How the cited work relates to the other 4 works you researched. This part of your thread provides evidence that you have refined your research key term to a coherent and specialized aspect of the key term, rather than a random selection of works on the key term. The idea here is to prove that you have focused your research and that all works cited are related in some manner to each other rather than simply a collection of the first 5 results from your Internet search. (100 words minimum)
5. References
A minimum of 3 recent articles (as described above), in current APA format, must be ...

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

8. TMA 2 – Looking at children’s
learning
2000 words
10th January 2011
Part 1 > 1450 words
Part 2 > 500 words
Part 3 > 50 words
Based on STs 3- 7
9. Part 1
Provide an analysis of a selected video extract, discussing
what it illustrates about children’s progress and how it is
supported, and how this relates to your own experience.
Link your observations to theories of learning which you
have learnt about in Study Topic 3, 4, and also to official
requirements on welfare and provision Study Topic 5 and
6.
10. From the Assessment Guide
Part 1
1450 words
Analysis of video sequence
This first part of the assignment is based on one of three video sequences that you have already encountered in
previous study topics. Choose a ten-minute sequence from:
‘Hospital play’ (Study Topic 3)
‘Lark Children’s Centre’ (Study Topic 4)
‘Bilingualism’ (from Study Topic 6).
You should begin by explaining why you have chosen a particular video sequence out of the three options, and why this
is pertinent to your role. This might be because of your type of setting or because the children are in the age range
you have most experience of supporting.
Take care to identify clearly and provide the full reference for the video sequence you have chosen, so that it can be
easily found by your tutor. You should then show what you think this sequence illustrates about how children learn
and about official requirements on welfare and provision, as follows:
Children’s learning
Discuss what your chosen sequence illustrates about how children learn. In particular, make specific reference to your
reading about approaches to early years learning in Study Topic 3, and about how children learn, in Study Topic 4.
Statutory requirements for welfare and provision
What does your chosen sequence demonstrate about legislation on welfare and provision? Refer to your reading in
Study Topic 5 or 6 in particular.
Be specific when you refer to the video material. Try to avoid rather wide and sweeping statements about what is
observed – for example, ‘All the children seem to be enjoying themselves and are involved’ is probably too general.
Try to provide evidence of what was happening and what made you consider the children were indeed involved – for
example, ‘As the children explored the materials, they could be seen to communicate with the adults and share their
experiences ... this told me the children were ... .’ You may find that it helps to focus on a specific child or specific
children.
11. Video extract
TMA 2 should be based on ONE of
following extracts:
• ‘Hospital play’ (ST 3)
• ‘Lark Children’s Centre’ (ST 4)
• ‘Bilingualism’ (ST 6)
• You can use up to 10 Minutes but note this is a guide for
those using Lark centre.
12. Children’s Learning – approx
750 words
Discuss:
What this sequence illustrates about how children learn and how learning is
supported
Make specific references to:
Approaches to early years learning in ST 3
How children learn in ST 4
The Readers
Be specific when you refer to video material – give clear evidence (description)
based on fact rather than judgement.
13. Brainstorm activity in fours
How do children learn and how do we support children’s learning?
Consider:
Relationships – peers / adults
Roles
Environment
Types of activity and approach
14. Watch sequence –Lark Centre
Consider:
Evidence from sequence
What does it show about how children learn?
Links to ST 3 or 4 to support this
How does it relate to your practice?
Do you do this?
Examples?
Do this for each piece of evidence
15. Official requirements on welfare and provision –
approx 750 words
What does this sequence demonstrate about legislation on welfare and
provision re health or inclusion?
Refer to your reading in ST 5 or 6 in particular.(ie pick up on ‘health and well
being’ or ‘inclusion’ as focus)
Need to consider key concepts arising from ST 5 or 6 and base your analysis
around these. Which requirements in EYFS relate to health and well-being
and inclusion?
Find evidence in video to support requirements and provide links to materials
and official documents. Relate also to your practice
16. Part 2 – Implications for
practice
500 words
Give two implications for your practice from your analysis of sequence of
following:
> supporting children’s learning
>official requirements on children’s welfare and provision
What have you learnt about your practice in these two areas that you want to
develop? How? Why will it improve practice - impact? Reference to materials
to support this aspect of practice and why it is important.
Can present in bullet points, table or prose
17. The Guide says
You must demonstrate and claim that you have met learning outcomes KU1,
KU2, KU4, KU5, KU6, CS2 ,CS3 and PS3.
Your tutor will claim the remaining leaning outcomes CS1, KS1, KS2 and KS4
when reading your assignment.
Editor's Notes
Some got high marks some got quite low marksRemember that we do not give marks for hard work: there is no effort gradeWe do not given marks for ‘good practice’ but we do for demonstrating good practice. You can not really ‘fail’ TMA01: your course work marks are averaged to get a pass/fail. A low mark simply means you need to get higher on other TMA
LO- only claim those you are asked to, claim only once in TMA, claim with just a small marker.
Multiple claims and the use of big comment markers disrupts the flow of writingNo claim will be perfect and all the TMA should be reflecting one outcome or anotherWork with the claiming outcomes sheet and post in the Tutor Group Forum (TGF) if you are not sure
Referencing is vital to gaining a good mark: look at the criteria which ones need to show referencing!
The TMA is asking you to show your understanding about how chn learn and how we support chn’s learning– not what they are learning. If talking about how they learn though, you will need to give evidence about you know this from the video. Eg the children develop their understanding of a specific skill or aspect of knowledge through adult modelling and guiding. This is shown in the video when….BRAINSTORM > HOW DO CHN LEARN and how do we support children’s learning? 5 mins
Relationships >-adult role > modelling, play mate, asking questions, teaching direct skill, providing resources, language, observation, key worker system-peers> support from peers > working together.
