2. What is Vibration Analysis
• Vibration Analysis is used to detect early precursors to machine failure, allowing
machinery to be repaired or replaced before an expensive failure occurs.
• There is three ways to know vibration:
1. Early detection of mechanical fatigue and breakdown
2. Accurately monitor the health of your plant machinery
3. Decrease downtime and increase savings
3. Phase
• Phase is the position of a rotating part at any
instant with respect to a fixed point. Phase
gives us the vibration direction. Tuning a car
engine using a timing light and inductive
sensor is an application of phase analysis.
• A phase study is a collection of phase
measurements made on a machine or
structure and evaluated to reveal
information about relative motion between
components. In vibration analysis, phase is
measured using absolute or relative
techniques.
4. Single phase
• Example case:
Early fault diagnosis of bearing and stator faults of the single-phase
induction motor using acoustic signals.
Describes an early fault diagnostic technique based on acoustic signals. The
presented technique was used for a single-phase induction motor. The following
states of the motor were analysed: healthy single-phase induction motor, single-
phase induction motor with faulty bearing, single-phase induction motor with
faulty bearing and shorted coils of auxiliary winding.
5. 3 Phase
• Example case:
Fault Detection and Diagnosis of 3-Phase Inverter System. Wich presents
systematically the novel approach to detect the inverter faults of closed loop fuzzy
controlled induction motor. The wavelet transform of stator currents has been used
to identify the inverter faults. The results are extremely important for the
monitoring and fault detection of the inverter in drives system. The work can be
extended to other converter configurations or drives with other type closed loop
controller.
6. Why use phase analysis?
• If we use phase analysis we don’t need to shut the engine
Because phase analysis analyze phase on some point and compared to
another we simply put a accelerometer sensor to find out the phase
then make it into pattern
• Can be used when the source of vibration is not clear
• Can confirm imbalance
• can be used to detect shaft misalignment
7. Spectrum single-phase
The frequency spectrum of
acoustic signal of the single-phase
induction motor with faulty
bearing.
The difference between spectra of
frequency of acoustic signal of the
healthy single-phase induction motor
and the single-phase induction motor
with faulty bearing and shorted coils
of auxiliary winding
The difference between spectra of
frequency of acoustic signal of the single-
phase induction motor with faulty
bearing and the single-phase induction
motor with faulty bearing and shorted
coils of auxiliary winding
