All Creatures Great And Small By James Herriot
Introduction All Creatures Great and Small was James Herriot s first book to be published in the
United States. In this book, the mature Herriot tells about his youthful self, when he graduated from
veterinary school and began working in rural veterinary practice. The narrator like the reader is able to
laugh at his naïveté of Herriot, as well as at the people who surround him, including Siegfried Farnon,
and his brother, Tristan Farnon. This memoir of James Herriot flashes the simple and laid back lives of
the countryside folks. It exhibits their struggles, cultures, etiquette, hardships and relationships. The
stories that are depicted in this book is loosely based on Herriot s life as a young veterinarian in the
rough English countryside pre WWII. There he encounters many different people and animals from
dogs and cats to livestock.
From the first day of Herriot s arrival at Skeldale House, being greeted by a troop of enthusiastic,
leaping, barking dogs, to the week of tuberculin testing that brings the book to a close, we share the
moments of joy, laughter, tears, nerves, confidence, mix ups, and triumphs involved in his Yorkshire
veterinary practice of the 1930s. We meet the eccentric Siegfried Farnon and the carefree Tristan
Farnon and many interesting people around the Dales, not to mention those marvellous animals who
shall live on just like the human characters. Who could ever forget Tricki Woo and Nugent that made

Porter s Porter, 1992 Model Of Competitive Advantage
Porter, (1992) model of competitive advantage has three generic strategies these are cost
leaders¬¬¬¬hip, differentiation and focus strategy. An organization can accomplish greater profit rates
over their competitors in either of the two ways (Grant, 2005).
By supplying a product at a comparatively lower cost which means cost leadership strategy. By
supplying an item which is differentiated from their rival s product in such a way that the consumers
are ready to pay at a quality price for the product. This is known as differentiation strategy.
Cost Leadership
Cost leadership is where an organization accomplishes relatively lower costs than their rivals and
competes across a broad range of divisions Thompson, (2005). An organization must be willing to
offer their products at the lowest possible price without making any compromises in the quality of the
product. It does not imply that the company has to offer their product at the lowest market price as
those products are often regarded as inferior. A company which concentrate on cost leadership strategy
will be able to produce greater profit margins by marketing more product units. Cost leadership can be
accomplished by superior management, concentrating on cost saving opportunities, ... Show more

Symbols In Waiting For Godot
The characters are symbolic figures who convey Beckett s message and vision. The major characters
are Vladimir and Estragon. They function as the mouthpiece of anger and irritation, and through them
Beckett gets his message across to the audience. They do not know who they are and where they are.
In this respect, the endless country road is symbolic of endless anguish of modern man. Godot for
them means a certain state of certainty. The idea of waiting means a static and immobile attitude
towards life. They do not take any action, so they can never reach certainty. As long as, they wait
doing nothing, they can never achieve this certainty. They are leading a life of boredom and
frustration. They have no past, no present, and are waiting hopelessly ... Show more content on

The play has a tragic depth, though on the surface meaning it is a comedy of two tramps which makes
us laugh. Their language is also absurd in that it is void of meaning to reflect the psychological
destruction of man. Beckett has portrayed his characters as pair of tramps representing humanity at
large, as aimless. However, they are not characters, but the embodiment of basic human attitudes. As
mentioned before, the play starts on a country road, by a tree where two old tramps are waiting. The
tree is used as a stage image. It may stand for hope, death or passage of time. The road is also a stage
image in that it reflects the aimless figures who have no definite destination. Time is also significant;
hence, it is not definite time. It signifies the spiritual

The Usefulness of Functionalism for an Understanding of...
The Usefulness of Functionalism for an Understanding of the Family
The Functionalists see the family as an important and vital institution in society. They take a MACRO
view and look at interdependence between the family and other organisations. Functionalists look at
the positive parts to society but overlook the negatives. They emphasise on the value consensus and
see the family as being universal. Other people s outlooks disagree with this view, such as the
Marxists, the Marxist Feminists and the Radical Feminists.
Item B describes the way in which functionalists view the functional pre requisites or the essentials of
societies if they are to survive. Functionalists writers such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An example of such a group are the Kibbutz. The Israeli Kibbutz is a form of commune, and is one of
the most famous and successful attempts to establish an alternative to the family. Here, the emphasis is
on collective child rearing, the community as a whole taking over the tasks of the family. Murdock
does not consider diversity when considering these pre requisites.
Functionalists also believe in value consensus. It is the idea which suggests that the role of agencies
such as the family is to socialise members of society into shared norms and values, which is the basis
for social order. Primary socialisation completes this value consensus. Parsons was an American
functionalist writer who examined family life in the 1950s. He argued that there are two basic
functions of the family that are found in every society. These are the primary socialisation of children
and the stabilisation of human personalities. Parson believes that this socialisation in the family is so
powerful that society s culture actually becomes part of the individuals personality people are
moulded in terms of the central values of the culture and act in certain ways almost without thinking
about it. Parsons therefore argues that families are like factories producing human personalities, and
only the family can provide the emotional warmth and security to achieve this. Parsons,

An Elephant Crack Up Analysis

Intrusions Leading to Decays
Although elephants and humans are different species, they share some important psychological and
cultural tendencies from which we can learn. Elephants are not only known for being religious
symbols, but they are also recognized for being a main source of income much like processed foods in
America. In The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food, Michael Moss reports on the role of
the media and how major food companies use it to get people hooked on foods that are convenient and
inexpensive (Moss 262). Whereas, in Charles Sibert s, An Elephant Crackup?, we learn technology s
role in revealing elephant behavior and its congruence to what we know ... Show more content on

Researcher Gay Bradshaw sought to combine traditional research into elephant behavior with insights
drawn from human neuroscience (Siebert 355) in order to understand exactly why elephants function
the way they do. Scientists performed an MRI scan on an elephant brain to conclude that brain
organization and early development of elephants and humans are extremely similar (Siebert 357). We
learn that elephants are capable of exhibiting behavior typically associated... with trauma related
disorders in humans (Siebert 356). This helps us understand that elephants are developing violent
behaviors because, like humans, they can experience trauma. The discovery of the relations between
humans and elephants help understand the severe emotional affect that human involvement can have
on elephants. Scientists and doctors are also realizing that food industries may have gone too far in
creating and marketing products that posed the greatest food concerns (Moss 260). Food companies
are using technology to collect the opinions that consumers have on their products (Moss 263). This is
benefitting food companies because they are making products that are helping their profit sales since
they are appealing to the demands of their consumers. As the Prego food company is making
consumers happy with their sauces, scientists discover that the largest ingredient, after tomatoes, is
sugar (Moss 263). Through this we learn that companies will do anything, like toxifying their products
and increasing obesity risks, in order to gain

Describe The Difference Between Right Atrium And Right...
The heart is made up of four chambers, two atriums and two ventricles. The right side of the heart
receives deoxygenated blood and pumps the blood to the lungs, whereas the left side of the heart
receives the oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the rest of the body.
The right side of the heart consists of the right atrium and right ventricle. The right atrium receives the
deoxygenated blood via the vena cava (both the inferior and superior) from the rest of the body. The
blood then travels through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle where it then gets pumped to the
lungs, where gas exchange can occur. The chambers on the left side of the heart are the left ventricle
and atrium. The left atrium receives the oxygenated blood from the lungs via the pulmonary vein. It is
then pumped through the atrioventricular valve into the left ventricle, where it is pumped through the
aorta and to the rest of the body. One adaptation of the heart is the thickness of the walls. The
ventricles have thicker walls than the atria as blood gets pumped out with higher pressures. The left
ventricle is even thicker as it must withstand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The contraction, known as systole, pumps blood out of the heart. The relaxion phase, diastole, is when
the heart muscles relax, and fill will blood. These cause the stereotypical heart sounds, lub and dub .
The lub occurs when the atrioventricular valves close, and the dub when the semilunar valves close.
An athletes heart has some slight adaptations that make it more efficient. In response to endurance
training, both the right and left ventricles expanded. For strength athletes, the muscle of the heart
thickened, but only for the left ventricle. These adaptations cause the heart to pump blood more
effectively as the myocardial contractions are more forceful, and the filling and ejection of blood from
the heart chambers is

The Success Of Cruise Ships
Looking at today s mega fleets with their mammoth ships that hold 4,000 or more passengers, it is
easy to forget how far the industry has come in these past twenty five years. While cruise ships are
now situated around the globe in ports ranging from Europe to Australia, the Americas to Asia, and
drawing passengers from the local populaces, it was not always that way. In the 1980s, while most
observers believed the industry had the potential for rapid growth, cruising struggled to cast off
misconceptions and widen its appeal to the mass market. It was still largely a North American focused
business.
Pleasure Cruising s Heritage

The industry, however, got past its fears of new construction and by the early 1980s a second
generation of cruise ships was being built. This group began with HAPAG s 30,000 gross ton mv
Europa launched in 1981 followed by Carnival Cruise Lines 35,265 gross ton mv Tropicale, Home
Lines 35,143 gross ton mv Atlantic and Royal Caribbean s 37,584 gross ton mv Song of America. Yet
while the second generation of cruise ships had gotten larger and carried over 1,000 passengers, they
remained mostly focused on the Caribbean. There were few exceptions to what was considered the
optimal size for a cruise ship, one being the ss Norway. While she was a converted liner as opposed to
be new build, at 70,000 gross ton and able to carry 2,000 passengers, she tantalized the industry with
the potential for big ships. It would take eight years, but in 1988 Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines
responded by introducing the 73,192 gross ton mv Sovereign of the Seas, with a capacity of 2,282, the
first new build of this size since the rms Queen Elizabeth 2 in 1968.
The industry however was struggling to propel its growth and overcome self inflicted problems
including overcapacity. In 1980, there were only about thirty cruise lines and seventy five ships with
just around 40,000 berths worldwide. Nevertheless, as the decade progressed the industry s growth
started to accelerate so that by 1990 thirty six companies operated 100

The Importance Of Electronic Media And Communication
We are to meet the people where they are at. With whatever means are available.
What about our youth. If we aren t able to understands our youths way of communication and not only
get involved with their language we have to educate them of the pitfalls of electronic media and
communications. If the church doesn t find a way to stay in step with our youth we are going to lose
them.
What I propose is to teach them proper ethical and spiruitual principles as it realates to electronic
communication (i.e. texting, email, video conferencing, facebook). We would not be able to
participate in on line educational discussions if we didn t have the electronic means to do so.
This vision demands that leaders in the church wrestle with the complexity of embodying the Gospel
in culture. As the church rediscovers its unique role in culture, and supports the calling of their cultural
influencers, it will be a force for good in our communities, cities and the country.
The call to the church to all Christians is to rediscover the cultural mandate, embracing the
opportunity to influence culture. In the church, we must teach about calling and cultural influence and
provide vital support to cultural leaders. We must become an integral piece of the local culture,
convening and encouraging creation of future culture that serves the common good. We must become
connoisseurs of good culture, recognizing and celebrating the good, the true, and the beautiful to the
glory of God, and begin to

Plagiarism Is More Effective Than Just Punishing Students
Later Draft
Scott Jaschik discusses various situations of plagiarism in college in his article, Winning Hearts and
Minds in War on Plagiarism, in order to argue that there are more efficient solutions to prevent
plagiarism. Jaschik published this article in Inside Higher Ed, which is an online news source, that he
cofounded, targeting first year English and college writing instructors. In the article, he explores
different ways of preventing plagiarism and emphasizes the importance of academic integrity. By
drawing on different instructor perspectives, he employs various situations such as an online student
discussion board and an assignment to purposely plagiarize in order to highlight common issues with
why students plagiarize. Jaschik ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there still was some unintentional plagiarizing, the open minded conversation between
Hagopian and her students was more beneficial and effective for the students because it taught them
the, difference between deliberate fraud and failed apprenticeship (Jaschik 262). This example
strengthens
Jaschik s idea by specifically illustrating how first year writing instructors being more open minded
towards plagiarism can be more beneficial for the students. Jaschik also describes another example
with Roy Stamper, an associate writing director, who followed an online student discussion board
where students discussed how they felt about plagiarizing which led
Stamper to discover that there was also a strong, intense reaction from other students much of it
critical (263). Jaschik uses this to illustrate how his lurking online raised many questions and whether,
an intense workload puts an emphasis for students on efficiency as opposed to quality (263 4). This
example also strengthens Jaschik s argument in that it appeals to the first year writing instructors by
giving insight on various students opinions on plagiarizing. This is effective to the instructors because
it allows them to learn some reasons why students plagiarize, such as being overloaded and not having
enough time. Even Stamper himself asks, Should writing instructors be looking to

Religious Tradition in Shirley Jackson s The Lottery Essay
Religious Tradition in Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
While The Lottery is a fictitious story it can be argued that it mirrors the attitude of American culture
in how it addresses religious tradition in its major holidays and celebrations.
Two of the biggest holidays in the United States are Christmas and Easter. Both of which are derived
from Christian beliefs. Even though The Lottery is apparently a pagan ritual, violent and horrific, it is
appropriate, only by the fact that the participants no longer remember, or seem to care, what the
original intent of the ritual or the significance of its traditions.
When we are introduced to the lottery, we see the traditions that are currently observed. These include

Only when we are introduced to Old Man Warner, the only man in the village old enough to remember
some of the traditions, do we get an idea of the purpose of the lottery. It seems to be a pagan harvest
ritual, as expressed by his old saying: ??Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon?? (Jackson 369). By
participating in the lottery the villages crops will prove to be bountiful. He justifies the use of the
lottery simply by stating ?There?s always been a lottery? (Jackson 369).
Furthermore, Old Man Warner is horrified at the thought of ever stopping the lottery. When another
villager speaks of other towns that have done away with the lottery he says, ?Pack of crazy fools?
(Jackson 369),and ?Nothing but trouble in that? (Jackson 369)
Only two traditions survive from the original ritual: the drawing of lots by the head of the households
and subsequent drawing of the chosen family, and the use of stones for the dastardly deed.
By using the heads of households in the initial round of the lottery, the blame could be passed off to
him. The eldest men, and only the men were supposed to draw from the first round as expressed by ?
Don?t you have a grown boy to do it for you, Janey?? (Jackson 368) and ?Glad to see your mother?s

The Jazz Age was one of the many highlights of the 1920 s before the stock market crash that
triggered the start of the Great Depression in 1929. Because of the distress that the American soldiers
faced during World War 1, many of them returned questioning the true meaning of life. Their solution
was to recklessly enjoy their lives since you only live once. A completely new culture bloomed during
the decade through it s new music, crazy dancing and brand new atmosphere. While the country
seemed to be rather optimistic as a whole during the 1920 s, this decade actually had quite a few

As women achieved greater equality, many of them shifted from the countryside to towns and cities.
In 1920 women were given the right to vote and could participate in government. More jobs were
open to women giving them money and independence (C). They had more personal freedom in their
choice of clothes, make up and style which led to what we now know of as the flappers. It became
socially acceptable for women to smoke, drink and go to parties unaccompanied. As independent
citizens, women were also given the choice of birth control. This was a drastic change in the lives of
Americans since the decision to not give birth to a baby had never been a decision that a women
should make alone (E). Like women, young people found confidence in forming their futures. They
envisioned life to fall into place on its own and thought that there was no need to stress out (I). Even
though people were starting to feel confident, there was a sense of disillusionment through the
political and cultural aspects of society. Many citizens became nervous towards communists, fascists,
and socialists in fear that they would change society the way that it had been. Because they were so
scared, many Americans decided to take harsh measures and single out all of the people that belonged

Barbarians At The Gate By Kohlberg Kravis Roberts And Co.
Barbarians at The Gate is a prominent book within the financial industry and a great book to read for a
deeper look inside how the private equity world works. The book is an account of one most famous
leveraged buyout cases in the history of private equity. The story is about the leveraged buyout of RJR
Nabisco, Inc. by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts Co., more commonly known as KKR, a tycoon in the
private equity business in 1988. The book is written by two journalists of the wall street journal, Bryan
Burrough and John Helyar and the chain of articles they wrote about during the entire longevity of the
buyout process, through interviews with the key players in the deal. For anyone who is interested in
the complex yet simple world of leveraged buyouts, the book is a must read to understand the nature
of the deals and how anything goes and the characters and the psychology of people.
The chieftain of the book is Ross Johnson, the fiery, energetic and entertaining Chief Executive
Officer of RJR Nabisco. The Canadian businessman got his start in General Electric as an accountant,
after graduating from University of Manitoba in 1952, through a military scholarship. After General
Electric, he moved on to T. Eaton Company where he was the Vice President of merchandising.

The Effect of Education on Economic Growth
The Effect of Education on Economic Growth
Abstract
Education is one of the primary factors of development. Countries can t achieve economic
development without investment in human capital. Vocational training and higher education equip a
worker to perform certain jobs or functions .It improves the quality of their lives and leads to social
benefits to individuals and society like improving income distribution. Education increase people s

This function is not accurate because it doesn t take into account the quality or type of education an
individual has. Human capital is also an important variable in the variation wage function which is
hard to measure too. Human capital includes some feature such as education, work experience, and
health. To estimate human capital, scholars Suggested quantitative measures of quality include costs
per student, library expenditures, number of earned doctorates among Faculty and administrators, and
student faculty ratios. However, this estimation of human capital is not accurate too. Some scholars
argue pupil teacher ratio is alternative measure of resources invested in education which measure the
quantity of education but not the quality. Further more, some research didn t use the system approach
(input, throughputs, and output.) which made some scholar to believe it underestimate the effect of
education spending by failing to observe the possible indirect effect on economic growth. All these
inaccurate measures and disagreements make it difficult to compare the findings of empirical studies
to determine how strong the effect of investment in human capital to promote growth rates of the
economy, but macroeconomists in many research stressed the importance of education to promote
growth.

The Subplots In Holes, By Louis Sachar
In the book Holes, written by Louis Sachar, there are multiple subplots that are all intertwined. In
particular, the Elya and Madame Zeroni subplot is tied very closely with the main plot of the book.
Madame Zeroni gives Elya a family lullaby that is actually about his future descendent, Stanley and
Madame Zeroni s future descendent, Zero. The if only song in Holes foreshadows Stanley and Zero s
character development. The reader is first introduced to the lullaby in the subplot of Elya and Madame
Zeroni. Madame Zeroni gave this song to Elya, telling him that if he sang the lullaby to his pig while
it was drinking, then it would grow bigger. She also told him that he had to come back and carry her
up the mountain and sing the lullaby to her or Elya and his descendants would be cursed forever.
However, Elya doesn t follow Madame Zeroni s directions, and he instead leaves for America, where
he meets his future wife Sarah. The lullaby that Elya receives from Madame Zeroni is actually a
family song that Madame Zeroni gave to her son who lives in America. However, when Elya
translates the song for Sarah, the song is changed because Elya is cursed. Sachar writes, Elya tried his
best to translate it from Latvian into English, but it wasn t the same, (39). This means that there are
two versions of the lullaby: one is the cursed, Yelnat s version and the other one is the unchanged,
Zeroni version. Both versions are about Stanley and Zero; the Yelnat s translation is about

Flossing Research Paper
Everything You Need To Know About Flossing
Taking care of your teeth goes beyond just brushing twice a day. It is equally important that you floss
every day as well. Brushing will help get the plaque off your teeth that is on the front and back
surfaces, and it will help remove the food particles and bacteria that are hiding between your teeth.
Flossing also plays a role in reducing your risk of gum disease, tooth decay, and controls bad breath.
Unfortunately, many people do not know how they should be flossing their teeth. Picking the right
type of flossing and using the correct movements can make a huge difference in your oral health. Here
is everything you need to know about flossing.
Picking the Right Type of Floss

Start by unraveling enough floss so that it is approximately an arms length long. Wrap most of the
floss around one middle finger, and leave a couple inches free to wrap around the middle finger on the
opposite hand. You ll be discarding the floss as you go by unraveling it around the finger on one hand
and wrapping it around the finger on the opposite hand. Every tooth should get a new section of dental
floss so that it is free of any bacteria.
Glide your dental floss between the teeth by using your index finger and thumb. You ll want to use a
gentle motion that goes up and down rather than back and forth.
You ll need to curve your dental floss against the tooth so that it slides into the space where the tooth
meets the gums. Keep the floss close to the teeth, and try to avoid irritating the papilla, which is the
part of the gums that sticks up between your teeth.
With these tips in mind, you ll be sure to have teeth and gums that are in better health for your next
dental cleaning. For more advice about flossing, ask a dentist during your next cleaning at Treman

Similarities and Differences in the Aeneid and the Odyssey.
Both the Odyssey and the Aeneid describe the journeys of the two Greek heroes Odysseus and Aeneas,
as they struggle towards their goal through the crises and deadly situations caused by the wrath of the
gods upon them. In the Odyssey, we see that Poseidon (god of the sea/earth shaker) has a grudge
against Odysseus while Athena, god of wisdom, aids him throughout his journey. Similarly in the
Aeneid, we see that goddess Juno dislikes Aeneas as he is destined to destroy the city of Carthage
loved by Juno during his mission to find a new land Rome, whereas Aeneas mother Venus aids him.
In these epics, many points of similarity and differences arise such as the characters of the heroes, how
their journeys are delayed by women obsessed with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some serious and important situations, Odysseus is more cunning and intellect than Aeneas.
Something common in the two epics about their journey is that both Odysseus and Aeneas are
distracted from what they are destined for; by the lust and arousal of women obsessed by love. In the
Odyssey, Odysseus is first encountered by Circe s love and then by the over obsession of Calypso.
Circe is an immortal goddess and enchantress who is extremely beautiful and sexy. In the Aeneid,
Aeneas after reaching Carthage meets Dido who is a mortal woman and queen of Carthage. She is
foreign, exotic, mysterious, sexually and politically potent. Talking about Odysseus, we see that
Odysseus is approached by Hermes who warns him against Circe. She offers Odysseus to have sex
with her and it happens. Odysseus now distracted, lives with her on her island for a year until his
comrades remind him of Ithaca. The longest delay in Odysseus journey is at the island of Calypso.
Calypso lives alone on an exotic and beautiful island. After Odysseus crash lands here, he is rescued
by her and held captive for seven years. Calypso loves Odysseus unconditionally and offers him
immortality. Calypso could never impress Odysseus like Circe did. But in the Aeneid, we see that
Aeneas loses sight of his mission of founding Rome in Italy. Dido makes Aeneas forget about what he
is destined for as they fall in love. Both Dido and Circe keep men away from their

You Have No Friends by Farhad Manjoo
Journalist, Farhad Manjoo, in his article, You Have No Friends, emphasizes the social and networking
benefits Facebook has to offer. Manjoo s purpose is to convince people that have not joined the
networking giant that the benefits of joining Facebook outweigh the arguments to avoid it. He adopts a
cogent tone in order address any concerns of the Facebook holdouts. Manjoo opens his article by
reciting a message that Mark Zuckerberg posted to the company s blog, which stated that Facebook
had reached its 150 millionth member. It was a quintessential moment for the social networking giant,
because it demonstrated the popularity and prominence in how people network and stay connected
with one another. For comparison purposes, Manjoo states, If Facebook were a country, it would be
the eight most populated in the world, just ahead of Japan, Russia and Nigeria (Manjoo, 2009). He
estimates that Facebook will grow to nearly 300 million people by this time next year in order to show
the continuing popularity and growth of Facebook (Manjoo, 2009). Manjoo was correct in his
estimation in terms of growth and has continued since the time of publication of the article. In fact, as
of January 2014, the number of monthly individual Facebook users surpassed 1.3 billion ( Facebook
statistics, 2014). These numbers are significant because it shows a shift in how people interact with
one another and that the majority of people with access to the internet use Facebook. In order to find

Madoff
Bernie Madoff amp; the Worst Pyramid Scheme in U.S. History It is said that we are the product of
our upbringing, so it probably would not surprise you to learn that the biggest and worst financial
fraud committed through a pyramid scheme in US History, was achieved by a man who was raised by
parents that also commit financial frauds. Bernie Madoff was raised watching his parents Ralph and
Sylvia Madoff run a business that was not successful in the financial trading world. That company was
named Gibraltar Securities. Due to the fact that Sylvia failed to accurately report their company s
financial condition, the SEC closed the business in 1963 and started its investigative proceedings to

(Cook, 2014) The question becomes, how did Bernie pull this off for so many years? Actually having
a legitimate legal running successful company to further your reputation as a highly successful
investor really helps, but how do you have billions of dollars invested in your company, that is
ultimately already lost before you even cash the check given to you? That in itself must have taken a
lot of time and energy, and when the scheme was discovered, Bernie stated that he alone ran his
scheme. For someone that has no problem stealing money from his investors, it seems odd that his
reason to take all the credit for the running of this scheme would be to protect the others that were
involved. Is he really protecting them or is his ego so big that he wants all the credit? That is a
question that we will never have the answer to unless Bernie himself answers it. But there is one
person who has come forward. Frank DiPascali, the former financial chief, became the star witness
against Bernie Madoff. Mr. Depascali was very forthcoming in giving information and he detailed
how the scheme was able to be hidden for so long, and how it all comes down to technology. What?
How does technology have anything to do with hiding a pyramid scheme? Well, Bernie had an
emergency operations building that housed different versions of computers, software programs,
printers, copiers, paper, company logos, and company

Carter Racing Case
Carter Racing Case
Situation
Bj Carter and Chris Carter are siblings and business partners. They have to decide to run their race car
in a high stakes race against tougher competition than they have seen all year. The problem being,
their car has failed 7 times out of 24 this season and if it fails in this race, not only will they be out a
$50,000 engine, but they will also be out a full season contract from Goodstone worth two million per
year. If they decide not to race, they will be out $15,000 in entry fees and for sure lose Goodstone and
end up $80,000 in debt on the season. Lastly, if they race and they do blow and engine, they will lose a
sponsorship worth $80,000 from oil company because they don t want their name on a car that ...

Another problem not addressed is what the temperature at the trace will be at race time because it will
likely be warmer than the 40 degrees it is at 8:23. In my opinion, the second issue of the newly
designed turbo system is likely at fault for the gasket problems. If other racing teams are not using
these new turbo systems and also not having gasket problems, it seems likely this could be causing too
much pressure on the gaskets, causing the failures. If that is the case, they would have to make the
decision to race based on the chance of failure to be 29%. In order for this problem to be fixed,
research would have to be done to find out how they could rebuild the turbo so that it would not break
the gaskets or rebuilding the gaskets so they can with stand the extra stress from the turbo. This brings
about the main constraint in this case, time. Even if they had better gaskets, they do not have time to
replace them in one hour.
Action Plan
In this case, they do not have any alternatives when it comes to making fixes to the car s engine.
Meaning the only alternatives they have are with their sponsors. They have several options as the race
approaches.
Option 1
They could forfeit the race and cut their losses and look long term to how to fix the problem. The

The old album was snapped shut about the time the Swede arrived. Peach s gleeful rush to meet him

From the back of the room Abel directed the young lady to where they heard what did sound like
military chatter. Most were in code with call signs rather than in the clear. At least one call sure
sounded like an aircraft asking for permission to land. Approaching without the code would probably
earn a pilot a missile in his lap.
Fascinated Trey looked around finding himself alone. Looking at his watch he discovered it was very
late. Removing his boots he fell asleep on the love seat listening to the cryptic radio calls. Peach woke

the National Leadership Conference in Chicago Illinois. The National Leadership Conference is the
biggest and most anticipated conference of the year and is also where members of FBLA have the
opportunity to see who is the best of the best by competing in competitions that they qualified for at
the State Leadership Conference. This year Lakeland High School FBLA had seven competitors
competing in Future Business Leader, Parliamentary Procedure Team, Job Interview, Banking and
Financial System and Help Desk. All our competitors spend a lot of hard work and dedication
studying for their competitions unfortunately however our competitors fell short this year of getting on

Arranging A Marriage In India Summary
Arranging a Marriage in India by Serena Nanda is an insightful article in my opinion. As an American,
our culture regarding marriage is very basic with searching for love on our own and then deciding for
ourselves who we should marry or even if we shall marry at all. This article gives insight into how this
process is viewed as acceptable and the complex process of arranging a marriage for a son.
The author begins with the basics of marriages in India, explaining that arranged marriages are so
common that marriages not setup have a special term. She goes on to speak of how the couples set to
wed usually do not meet before the ceremony and that if they do, it is for only a momentary
conversation after the decisions have been made. However, she points out, that if one person objects to
the match that the parents agreed to, they do not have to wed.
The author then leads into her own opinions and cultural biases. She finds the tradition unjust and

Sita gives her own view point and justifies how she so readily hands over this responsibility to her
parents. In Sita s culture, parents are highly respected and are seen as experienced enough to offer
guidance in such an important decision. Sita goes on to explain how in India young persons do not
date and have minimal social interaction with the opposite sex. Sita then reasons that instead of
wasting all their time searching for the right person like Americans, young people readily give up this
duty to their parents so that they can enjoy their lives and let their parents worry. Sita s next
justification on how she knows she will marry a good man is that her parents investigate their
background, checks their social standing, and various other particulars. Her final defense against the
author s questioning about how she marries a stranger is that she has a lifetime to get to know and love

Domestic Violence Social Problem
Domestic Violence as a Social Problem Domestic violence or intimate partner violence has been a
social problem for almost as long as humans have inhabited the earth. Domestic violence is often
defined as a pattern of abusive tactics aimed to maintain power and control over an intimate partner,
such as physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse. Like many social problems, domestic
violence can happen to anybody and can be perpetrated by anybody. It is generally accepted that as
many as 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an
intimate partner in their lifetime (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010). Furthermore, it is
believed that domestic violence impacts individuals with disabilities ... Show more content on

This may be the result of the lack of differences among the help seeking behavior and requested
services of survivors across identities. For example, one study found that LGBTQ individuals have
sought help at rates similar to their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts (Turell Cornell Swanson,
2005). With that being said, the study also reported a low rating of helpfulness of service providers
from this group (Turell Cornell Swanson, 2005). LGBTQ indidivuals reported that domestic violence
programs, police, attorneys, and clergy were the least helpful when seeking help related to a violent
incident, while family and friends were able to satisfy their needs (Turell Cornell Swanson, 2005).
While this could be interpreted as a lack of response from these agencies regarding domestic violence
towards LGBTQ individuals, it should also be noted that some of these agencies receive low ratings of
helpfulness from survivors across all identities. For example, the police response to domestic violence
has long been criticized by survivors of partner violence (Li et al., 2015). In some ways, the police
response to domestic violence has even worsened since the implementation of VAWA with mandatory
arrest policies disproportionately impacting women and other minorities (Qtd. in Li et al., 2015;
Sudbury, 2003). Furthermore, Chen Ullman predicted that the police response to sexual and domestic
violence is greatly influenced by myths perpetrated by rape culture such as disbelief of victims (Chen
Ullman, 2014). One benefit and service related to VAWA that has received a lot of criticism from
intersectional analysts is shelter services. Shelter services are typically gender based services (Turell
Cornell Swanson, 2005). Despite VAWA requiring an alternative service of equal opportunity being
offered, LGBTQ

Identification Of Unknown Organisms And Two Eukaryotes
Identification of Unknown Organisms

Introduction
The purpose of this study is to identify four unknown organisms. The unknown organisms have been
assigned randomly to six research groups by Professor Hoffman. Each research group was provided
two eukaryotes and two prokaryotes. The unknown organisms will fall into the following
classifications: bacteria, algae, fungi, or protozoans. All living organisms are organized into one of
three domains of life, Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya.
The Domain Bacteria
Bacteria and Archaea are prokaryotic, which are mostly single celled incomplex microorganisms. Both
Bacteria and Archaea have a variety of prokaryotes classified in multiple kingdoms (Reece, et al.,
Campbell Biology, 2014). There are a number of scientists who believe that Archaea cells may be the
precursor to Eukaryotic cells and that they have more in common with Eukaryotes than Prokaryotes
(Madigan, Martinko, Dunlap, 2009).
Prokaryotes are ubiquitous, successfully adapting to diverse environments as well as developing
symbiotic relationships with host organisms (Lengeler, Drews, Schlegel, 1999). Prokaryotes may have
both autotrophic and heterotrophic characteristics. A cyanobacteria is photosynthetic, commonly
called blue green algae, and may produce toxins (Crayton, 1993). Bacteria are most commonly

In 1983, Pope John Paul II visited Nicaragua in response to word that a growing alliance between
priests and Marxists revolutionaries was emerging in Latin America. Historically, the Catholic Church
in Europe had taken a strong anti communist stance. And so the emerging alliance troubled Pope John
Paul II despite the fact that priests claimed they were simply doing what Christ would do in

philosophical underpinnings suggest that change comes through political activism and even war and
revolution if peaceful means have failed. In addition, liberation theologians view sin as the root of
poverty and capitalism as the most ruinous form of sin on earth. Thus, Liberation Theologists argue
that capitalism should be confronted as pure evil and replaced by a more just and equitable socialist
system. The Pope unequivocally denounced these ideas as ideologically misguided. Many Nicaraguan
Catholics were disappointed with the Pope s position on political action because they felt like he
missed a chance to bolster the revolution and support much needed change for the people. They had
lived under years of tyranny and oppression at the hands of the conservative regime. And thousands of
innocent Nicaraguan citizens had suffered gross social injustices and even death at the hands of their
oppressors. If the Pope had supported their revolutionary cause, the people would have enjoyed the
backing of the Catholic Church. And if that had occurred, it would have provided the people with a
sense of spiritual support in their fight for freedom and equality. But the Pope s denouncement of

1. Explain the structure of neurons. How do neurons communicate with each other? How does the
Endocrine system communicate?
A neuron consists of a cell body, axon and dendrites. The cell body has a neuron, which is the control
centre that controls and regulates the activities of the neuron. The dendrites are extending in a branch
formation, projecting out from the cell body, which receives nerve impulses. The nerves travels down
the axon until it reaches the synapse, which are the gap between two neurons. The nerve impulse must
be converted into a neurotransmitter to be received by the other neuron triggering an electrical
impulse.
With the endocrine system, messages are sent into the bloodstream by hormones, which amplify the
signal to the whole body. Only the cells with the correct receptors will activate.
2. Describe the Peripheral Nervous System and explain the two systems involved in work/exercise and
rest.
The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that branch out from the brain and the spinal cord. It
has two components, the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The somatic
nervous system is made up of nerves that connect to voluntary skeletal muscles and to sensory

Cultural Secrecy Breed s Suspicion
Due to their ambiguity secretive religions open themselves up to many misconceptions and issues
especially when concerning the law. In my research paper I will identify a religion that has had
problems arise due to their secretive nature. I popular culture secrecy breed s suspicion. Religion in
particular is expected in the west to be open, honest and welcoming, based largely on the model of
Christianity. Plenty of religions involve secrecy, where believers are told things forbidden to outsiders,
and where further information is often revealed in stages as believers rise through the ranks. With
religion there are lot of reasons for secrecy, to avoid outsiders obtaining sacred knowledge only privy
to people in a certain religion or occult. Most religions believe that knowledge is sacred and to be
shared with only insiders in the religion who wholehearted believe and respect the religion. I recall as
a child I was apart of a free Mason group called Order of the Eastern Star. We had weekly meetings
and before the meetings adjourned we were reminded that we could not let anyone know what happen
in the meeting, not even our mother, which to say did not sit well with her. The information that is
shared often is not highly classified, but with many religious groups it s more so about inclusiveness.
Because you are apart of this particular group you are included in something bigger than yourself,
which is what some people search for in religion. On the on the side of secrets

Taking A Look At Bodybuilding Supplements
Taking a look at bodybuilding supplements
Supplements can come as a great solution for the bodybuilder that wants to get better results from his
workouts. But before diving into the land of bodybuilding supplements, buying everything you can
and everything you heard that might be good for bigger gains, you should calm a little bit and inform
yourself on what does what. There are a plethora of products on the market. There is the real
supplement, the product that will aid you in your workout to become the next bodybuilding world
champion. Then there are tons and tons of miracle products. Unfortunately for us, they are legally sold
and can not be put down, despite the fact that there are just simple scams that promise the unthinkable.
You need to know what to look for, what to buy and how a product may affect you. Also, you need to
understand that supplements are nothing more than little boosters in your already carefully planned
workout and diet that you follow religiously. Supplements without hard work is just mindless
consumption of useless products. Working hard is what makes bodybuilding such a great sport which
attracts so many people. Nutrients are there to help you harden up in your hard work, resulting into
advancing to even harder work. As it was mentioned, products are plenty. There are plenty of products
for the most specific of needs. The most popular ones are creatine, protein powders, whey protein,

Weiss reports that for a number of years, language has been included in successive foreign operations

of the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, FY2015 (P.L 113 235). Some of the
more important statements of the act are: (i) the Arab League boycott of Israel, and the secondary
boycott of American firms that have commercial ties with Israel, is an impediment to peace in the

According to the Department of Commerce s Office of the Antiboycotting Compliance (OAC), the
legislation was enacted to encourage, and in specified cases, requires U.S. firms to refuse to
participate in foreign boycotts that the United States does not sanction (Security).
The US s reaction to the Arab League boycott of Israel lays the foundation for the reaction of states
and federal to the BDS Movement. A number of the reactions by different states including Illinois and
South Carolina were discussed above. The federal regulations in an attempt to stamp the US anti Arab
League boycott of Israel included, the Export Administration Act of 1979 (EAA) and the Ribicoff
Amendment to the Tax Reform Act of 1976 (TRA). Under section 8 of the EAA, all US persons and
company were prohibited from complying with an unsanctioned foreign boycott and require anyone
who is requested to do so, to report such request to the OAC in the Bureau of Industry and Security
(BIS). The EAA recommends penalties for violators.
As is seen, the US has long opposed boycotts of Israeli entities. Some Members of Congress have
argued the US needs to continue this trend and enact legislation which will protect the integrity of
trade as well as protect the state of Israel. In fact, it could be argued that protecting trade freedom of
Israel is the only way to protect the state as a trade isolation would leave it vulnerable and susceptible
to different forms of deterioration.

Is Hercules A Hero
What makes a hero? Is it slaying a mighty monster? Saving a town? Hercules, son of zeus, may have
done such things, but is he really one of the good guys? His twelve labours created by king Eurystheus
may be seen as heroic acts, but in reality most were along the lines of stealing and murder. That leads
to the question, is Hercules a hero or hitman? Hercules is definitely one of the most famous greek
heroes in history, is supposedly brainwashed by a jealous Hera into murdering his family, was to make
up for it by completing twelve famous labours for king Eurystheus. Not only did he murder his family,
the twelve labours mostly consist of stealing goods and possessions from others and murdering people
that get in his way. He has killed some grand pesky beats, but he is still being ordered to kill, and
following those orders without hesitation. Hercules is not the hero that greek mythology glorifies him
to be. His ruthless acts to purify himself from killing his family, are nothing but him following
commands of robbery, whether it be of a life or possession. He is less of a hero and more of a modern
day hired hitman . Hercules agreed to completing the twelve tedious labours, however bad they might
be. If he was ordered to steal something, he would. If he was told to kill something, he would do it.
His actions are more alike the ones of an assassin or hitman rather than a selfless hero.
Hercules labours mostly consisted of taking things and giving them to the king,

There is a grammar and literacy to each of these forms of communication. Bombarded with a wide
variety of images regularly, students need sharp visual interpretation skills to interact with the media
analytically. Each form of communication has its own rules and grammar and should be taught in
ways that lead students to be more specific and concise in communicating (Edutopia).
So remediating a text through a different tool ultimately will change the way it is communicated to its
audience. For example, imagine the oratory medium that Tupac used to convey his hit song, Changes
was instead only a written form of the lyrics. This traditional technology would not only affect the
message behind the song but the audience s acceptance of it. The second way I have communicated
this song is visually. I have constructed a collage of what I thought the song was trying to convey. This
leaves area for the original message to be interpreted differently among each individual and losing
sight of the originality of it. Although these mediums are proper for some texts, I think that Tupac
choose the correct form, auditory to communicate his message. I began my remediation process

Igor Stravinsky s piece the Rite of Spring is probably one of the well known pieces during the 20th

popular piece the Rite of Spring. In the beginning of Stravinsky s piece the Rite of Spring the rhythm
is somewhat fast. The tempo of the piece changes throughout the piece. At times the piece can have an
average pace and then pick up to a fast tempo again. There is no clear solid rhythm to the piece
because the tempo changes throughout the entire piece. The melody of this piece for the most part is

multiple melodies being played at the same time. In some aspects of the piece it can be considered

texture and structure. For the duration of this piece a large amount of instruments were used. Some of
these instruments include bassoon flutes, flutes, horns, trumpets, trombones, tubs, strings, drums, and

Compare And Contrast David And Goliath
The story of David and Goliath from the Old Testament has been told not just from the Bible, but also
from art. The people of Florence identified themselves with David because they shared the belief that
they defeated their own enemy with the help of God. Three artists sculpted a portrayal of David;
Donatello, Michelangelo, and Bernini. Within each period, a different sculpture was created of David
to represent new art ideas and techniques. Artists from the early Renaissance strived to portray lifelike
human forms with accurate proportions and realistic clothing. They developed new techniques to give
paintings a more three dimensional form in an effort to better understand their subjects. Donatello s
bronze statue of David is the first free standing nude sculpture since the Roman Era. It depicts David
with a slight smile, posed with his foot on Goliath s head after the defeat. The statue is completely

because they were scared of the rock being thrown at them. Artists were more correct when it came to
the human body. It portrays David is the middle of the battle against Goliath. It was one of the first
statues that involved its surroundings. David s body position is powerful from all angles and shows a
very fierce facial expression in anger, ambition and concentration. Another significant part of this
sculpture is that David is wearing a robe to demonstrate movement which was encouraged during the

Essay on Imperialism in America
Imperialism in America
At the turn of the century, America and the views of its people were changing. Many different ideas
were surfacing about issues that affected the country as a whole. The Republican Party, led by William
McKinley, were concentrating on the expansion of the United States and looking to excel in power
and commerce. The Democratic Party at this time was led by William Jennings Bryan, who was
absorbed in a sponge of morality and was concerned with the rights of man. The nation s self interest
was divided into different ideas between the two parties. At this time imperialism and anti imperialism
were the dominant topics regarding America s destiny.
One argument backing U.S. imperialism is by naval ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In turn it was just easier and more accessible to the Chinese market if the U.S. had stake in the
Philippines.
All of these articles demonstrate a very high self interest and also somewhat aggressive outlook on
U.S. imperialism. All three seem to agree that expansion equaled commerce, which in turn equaled
power. The articles chiefly suggest that other nations would be privileged to have the U.S. control
them. They all take basically the same ethnocentric view that the U.S. is best.
On the reverse was the anti imperialistic argument. This argument was supported by Democratic
presidential nominee, William Jennings Bryan and the National Liberty Congress of Anti Imperialists.
Bryan was a very moral person and was concerned with the freedom of all men. He believed that
expansion was wrong because the U.S. was trying to constitutionalize lands and people out of its
jurisdiction. He felt that people s rights were being sacrificed for cash flow. In reference to dealing
with the Filipino problem, he proposed that the U.S. merely aid rather than control. The U.S. was able
to help Cuba stabilize a government while protecting them with the Monroe Doctrine. Bryan felt that
the same solution could have been asserted to the Philippines problem. The difference in the self

Case Study Of Bhopal Gas Tragedy
HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL PROJECT December 2nd of 1984 marked the eve of one of the world s
most extensive and deadliest industrial disasters, known now, thirty years later, as The Bhopal Gas
Tragedy or The Bhopal Disaster , among others. Essentially: between twenty seven and forty tons of
methyl isocyanate gas and other assorted chemicals leaked from a tank at a plant owned by Union
Carbide India Limited (UCIL), the Indian subsidiary of the American company Union Carbide
Corporation (UCC), itself a subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company (Eckerman). This catastrophic
failure followed the introduction of water into an MIC storage tank, which caused an explosive chain
reaction (Dhara). The chemical cloud produced by the reactions, which the plant s ... Show more

The plant s placement (near a densely populated area) was noted as hazardous years before the
tragedy, but UCC insisted on the location. The planning board s motivation for their insistence was
primarily that it was cheaper to build using a pre existing plant in the non ideal location as a basis
rather than building an entirely new plant in the more thinly populated area the Bhopal government
had designated for hazardous industry (Eckerman). Had the plant been built in a more sparsely
populated area, casualties and damage from the gas leak might have been drastically reduced. The
tragedy might have been completely averted had UCC opted to use the more expensive production
process (obviating the need for MIC) instead of the cheaper, more dangerous process (as discussed
above). More economies were taken with the safety and security systems (Eckerman), which, properly
installed and maintained, might have kept the tragedy from happening or lessened its effects; although
the company maintained at first that the Bhopal plant was equipped as well as were its plants in other
countries, UCC later admitted that the safety equipment in the plant was subpar

The Resistance Of Bacteria And Antibiotics
The resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is becoming a grave and global medical problem. This is
because whenever antibiotics are taken the development of resistance is a given consequence; bacteria
adapt to changing environmental conditions through the continuous process of evolution. The main
issue with antibiotics is not whether but when antibiotic resistance will occur.
This resistance is caused by the lack of new antibiotics available and continuing over prescription of
antibiotics. Any bacteria that acquire resistance alleles, by either random mutation or genetic exchange
with other bacteria, have the capability to resist multiple antibiotics. Therefore, the process of bacteria
gaining multiple resistance attributes over time gives bacteria the ability to become resistant to many
different families of antibiotics.
Nosocomial infections are, in particular, an progressively prevalent problem. This is because
weakened immune systems of hospital patients make them particularly vulnerable to infection. E. coli
is frequent cause of infection, especially in the urinary tract. This means patients catheters could easily
be at risk to a resistant strand of E.coli. In the US alone, the overall cost for medical intervention of
nosocomial urinary tract infections is staggering, with approximately $424 million to $451 million
spent annually in the United States to manage these infections (source).
Alarmingly, 17.3% infections requiring hospitalisation have been attributed to

Because squared units are not intuitive, we square root the variance, known as the standard deviation.
Diversification and Variance Reduction
When uncertain numbers are averaged together, the distribution of the average goes up in the middle
and down on the ends, becoming more centralized. This centralizing of the distribution is the primary
manifestation of diversification.
The width or narrowness of a distribution defines the range of uncertainty of the number. The wider
the distribution, the greater the variance, standard deviation and uncertainty.
The Central Limit Theorem
If enough independent samples of almost any distribution are averaged together, then the resulting
distribution will be normal .
The Normal Distribution
The normal distribution is an idealization of the result of averaging a large number of identical,
independent random variables. They are centered at their mean or average. Their width is measured by
the standard deviation, or the square root of the variance.

The Utah Symphony And Utah Opera Essay
Introduction
This memo will examine the possible merger that the Utah Symphony ( the Symphony ) and the Utah
Opera ( the Opera ) have recently announced under the leadership of Scott Parker, the chairman of the
board of the Utah Symphony. By examining the organizational, cultural, and communicative results of
the merger this memo will highlight the costs and benefits of partaking in this merger using the given
information to make a final conclusion to help you decide the best course of action for the Utah Opera
moving forward.
Issue for Analysis
Mergers like the one proposed have had both positive and negative results for other arts companies in
the past, based on their specific region and composition. Whether or not the merger will be beneficial
the Utah Symphony and the Utah Opera will be based on if their individual cultures and structures are
conducive to each other, an issue subject to my analysis. If the following aspects are not addressed, in
my opinion, this merger will not be successful and will be detrimental to both organizations.
Analysis of Current Situation
When looking at the merits it s important to completely understand all the differences between the two
companies that need to be hurdled as well as any similarities that can be used to make the merger as
seamless as possible. The Utah Symphony and the Utah Opera are to very different structurally and
culturally, so it is important to analyze the pre merger and post merger condition from the

Retirement Planning
Retirement
By: tena

Retirement Retirement seems to be one of the most often overlooked areas of people s future plan.
Simply because it seems so far away, it is an area that is subject to procrastination. People are
expected to live longer now than ever before, this is another reason why young adults and teenagers
are not worried about saving for their retirement. The baby boom generation, the seventy seven
million people born between 1943 and 1960, face an entirely different retirement plan. As they began
to retire, people are starting to think that there will be no money left and this will turn into a crisis.
What will happen when seventy seven million baby boomers begin to want the money they paid in

The Roth Ira is mainly for people who do not want to deal with all of the complex rules or worry
about paying taxes on future withdrawals. What are 401k s? A 401k s is an employee s best friend. It
is a plan that allows employees to contribute a certain percent of their salary up to a specified
maximum. These contributions are tax deductible and your earnings are tax deferred until withdrawn.
Your employer can also provide matching contributions up to a certain percent as an additional
benefit. According to the Washington, D.C. based Employee Benefit Research Institute, about forty
percent of all workers are offered a 401k type plan, and of those, seventy five percent participate in it.
The employees that are not taking advantage of the 401k plan just have not been educated about it,
says Tom Foster, ERISA attorney for John Hancock Life in Boston. Another thing that is good for
retirement is Mutual funds. A mutual fund is an investment vehicle that invests in the financial
markets, such as stocks, bonds, and so on. Mutual funds give investors a chance to play with their
money under the supervision of an experienced fund manager. There is a wide variety of funds

there are Balanced Funds for the middle of –the road investors who want to combine equity

The Application Of Measuring And Improving Quality
American Quality Experts
The application of measuring and improving quality in the United States have been heavily influenced
by four individuals. This paper will examine the contributions and theories of Walter Shewhart, W.
Edwards Deming, Philip Crosby, and Joseph Juran. Finally, these theories will be used to develop a
proposal for a quality monitoring system for the Pharmacy Department at Munson Medical Center.
Quality Experts
Walter Shewhart Walter Shewhart, Ph.D., earned both a bachelor s and master s degree from the
University of Illinois (Brombacher Montgomery, 2011). He then went on to the University of
California at Berkley where he earned his doctoral degree in physics. Shewhart developed a theory of

This is a technique for learning and improvement containing four phases, plan, do, study and act. An
interesting insight into the basis for this idea is that there is no knowledge with interpretation of data
(Mauleon Bergman, 2009). Nearly 50 years after his death, researchers are continuing to incorporate
Shewhart s principles in an effort to improve quality in healthcare. In a recently published paper,
control charts were used to identify patients who developed adverse outcomes following elective
colon resection (Fry, Pine, Jones Meimbah, 2012). These patients may have experienced a special
cause variation resulting in an increased length of stay in the hospital. An awareness of the factors that
may contribute to the occurrence of these variations may lead to improved outcomes and decreased
costs.
W. Edwards Deming William Edwards Deming earned his bachelor degree in electrical engineering
from the University of Wyoming. He subsequently earned his master s degree as well as his doctoral
degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Colorado and Yale, respectively. This
background in science and mathematics served as his foundation for statistics. Deming worked
extensively in Japan after World War II and was recognized by the Deming Application Prize awarded
by the Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers (Evans, 2014).

Dust Bowl Essay
According to answers.com, a dust bowl is a region reduced to aridity by drought and dust storms. The
best known dust bowl is doubtless the one that hit the United States between 1933 and 1939.
One major cause of that Dust Bowl was severe droughts during the 1930 s. The other cause was
capitalism. Over farming and grazing in order to achieve high profits killed of much of the plain s
grassland and when winds approached, nothing was there to hold the devastated soil on the ground.
The Dust Bowl affected the Great Plains which consist of parts of the U.S. states of Colorado, Kansas,
Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming.
Storms also reached the East Coast of the United States. The Dust Bowl ... Show more content on

With youth and ambition ground into the very dust itself, I can only drift with the tide.
Lawrence Svobida most likely joined the Dust Bowl exodus, the largest migration in American
history. By 1940, 2.5 million people had moved out of the Plains states; of those, 200,000 moved to
California. Arriving in California, the migrants were faced with a life almost as difficult as the one
they had left.
Many California farms were corporate owned. They were larger, and more modernized that those of
the southern plains, and the crops were unfamiliar. Many farmers from the Great Plains ended up
picking cotton and grapes for wages as low as 0.75 $ a day.
Other asylums included Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and New Mexico. The vast majority of Dust
Bowl migrants stayed on the West Coast permanently.
The Dust Bowl also inspired painters and other artists. One of the best known artists in connection
with the Dust Bowl is Alexandre Hogue. His picture s name is simply Dust Bowl .
An artist who compares the Dust Bowl to nowadays air pollution is Heather Watts. Her best known
picture is the New Dustbowl Blues .
Dorothea Lange became a well known photographer with pictures of the Dust Bowl. According to
Garland 2003 her photography obtained government relief for Dust Bowl migrants because she
visually demonstrated the hunger, poverty, hardship, and the plight of the migrants.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ramadhan Bazaars
In Muslim culture, there will be one holy month every year. Muslims will need to fast during the day.
There are not allowed to consume any food, water and any other things into their body. Early in the
morning, they will get to eat and drink, which is called suhoor. Suhūr (Arabic: ‫سحور‬‎

dawn , pre dawn meal ; also spelled suhoor, sahur, sehri and in Yoruba sãrì) is an Islamic term
referring to the meal consumed early in the morning by Muslims before fasting, sawm, before dawn
during or outside the Islamic month of Ramadan. When the day turns dark, this is when they break
their fast. It is called ftar (or Fatoor) (Arabic: ‫إفطار‬‎

putu bamboo. I always hunt for the best putu bamboo and have been looking for the really good ones

called suji, filled with palm sugar, and steamed in bamboo tube, hence its name, and served with
grated coconut. The price at the USJ 4 and SS19 Ramadhan bazaar is RM3 for a packet. Each packet

Early Childhood Development Is A Beneficial Tool, It...
Babies are fascinating. According to the Center for Disease Control, 3,932,181 of them were born in
the United States in 2013, of which 40.6% were born to unmarried women. It is true that most parents
want what is best for their children; however, the methodology and resources for childrearing vary
from home to home. Today s society is built on self discipline, self reliance, and skill; therefore, the
development of little ones must take center stage. However, this development is unique just as the
children and the parents who are responsible for their upbringing are unique. While preschool
programs can be a beneficial tool, it should not be mandatory because there is no significant evidence
of success for federally funded programs; early childhood development occurs diversley among
children; and parents alone are best qualified and responsible to nurture their preschoolers as they see
fit.
Some believe that the best way to tackle the challenge of a high functioning society is to mandate a
well defined preschool program. In 1965, Head Start became a federally funded organization designed
to foster early development for families who could not access it otherwise. (Clemmitt, 2014). These
families were classified as low income and benefitted from additional health services, social and
emotional skills development, academic skills, as well as education on parenting. So much emphasis
has been placed on the development of preschool age children that in 2014, Congress not

The Mafia Phenomenon in Italy
When non Italian citizens think about Mafia they picture huge villas in which bosses spend their entire
time surrounded by bodyguards, beautiful women, and a lot of drug. Despite this scenario could
resemble a perfect Hollywood movie, the Italian Mafia is all but showing one s power and wealth.
One of the most powerful but at the same time more hidden Mafias, is the Ndrangheta, the Calabrian
one. To reflect briefly on the etymology of the word Ndrangheta is not merely an academic exercise,
but could instead give us important cues on its historical analysis. The most convincing etymological
hypothesis is that the word Ndrangheta derives form the ancient Greek term ἀνδραγαθία, or
andragathia, that means virile virtue, courage (La ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can make a distinction between the Minor and the Major Society. The Picciotto is the first step of
the Ndrangheta s career in the Minor Society: he is merely an executor of orders, forced to obey the
high levels of the ndrina with the only hope of gaining immediate benefits. The Camorrista is an
affiliate that deserves a certain importance because he reached this position after a period of training.
He can complete missions that the Picciotto cannot afford. The Sgarrista is the last step of the Minor
society, and has the highest relevance. Within the major society we have a huge variety of roles,
among which we can mention the Vangelo (gospel), that is a person who has sworn with his hand on
the gospel. It is interesting to notice that all the people that don t belong to the Ndrangheta are called
the Contrasts, while those who are not members but sympathize with it are called Honored Contrasts.(
Roberto Saviano La Ndrangheta al Nord ) Another feature that differences Ndrangheta from the other
Italian Mafias is the role of females as members. Women had an important role in this organization,
not only because their marriages could strengthen the ndrine, but also because they were admitted to
the organization and could have climbed the structure to the highest female role, the Sisters of
Humility. This position requires to take care of the

  • 2. All Creatures Great And Small By James Herriot Introduction All Creatures Great and Small was James Herriot s first book to be published in the United States. In this book, the mature Herriot tells about his youthful self, when he graduated from veterinary school and began working in rural veterinary practice. The narrator like the reader is able to laugh at his naïveté of Herriot, as well as at the people who surround him, including Siegfried Farnon, and his brother, Tristan Farnon. This memoir of James Herriot flashes the simple and laid back lives of the countryside folks. It exhibits their struggles, cultures, etiquette, hardships and relationships. The stories that are depicted in this book is loosely based on Herriot s life as a young veterinarian in the rough English countryside pre WWII. There he encounters many different people and animals from dogs and cats to livestock. From the first day of Herriot s arrival at Skeldale House, being greeted by a troop of enthusiastic, leaping, barking dogs, to the week of tuberculin testing that brings the book to a close, we share the moments of joy, laughter, tears, nerves, confidence, mix ups, and triumphs involved in his Yorkshire veterinary practice of the 1930s. We meet the eccentric Siegfried Farnon and the carefree Tristan Farnon and many interesting people around the Dales, not to mention those marvellous animals who shall live on just like the human characters. Who could ever forget Tricki Woo and Nugent that made Alf their uncle ? Or the Labrador ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Porter s Porter, 1992 Model Of Competitive Advantage Porter, (1992) model of competitive advantage has three generic strategies these are cost leaders¬¬¬¬hip, differentiation and focus strategy. An organization can accomplish greater profit rates over their competitors in either of the two ways (Grant, 2005). By supplying a product at a comparatively lower cost which means cost leadership strategy. By supplying an item which is differentiated from their rival s product in such a way that the consumers are ready to pay at a quality price for the product. This is known as differentiation strategy. Cost Leadership Cost leadership is where an organization accomplishes relatively lower costs than their rivals and competes across a broad range of divisions Thompson, (2005). An organization must be willing to offer their products at the lowest possible price without making any compromises in the quality of the product. It does not imply that the company has to offer their product at the lowest market price as those products are often regarded as inferior. A company which concentrate on cost leadership strategy will be able to produce greater profit margins by marketing more product units. • 4. Symbols In Waiting For Godot The characters are symbolic figures who convey Beckett s message and vision. The major characters are Vladimir and Estragon. They function as the mouthpiece of anger and irritation, and through them Beckett gets his message across to the audience. They do not know who they are and where they are. In this respect, the endless country road is symbolic of endless anguish of modern man. Godot for them means a certain state of certainty. The idea of waiting means a static and immobile attitude towards life. They do not take any action, so they can never reach certainty. As long as, they wait doing nothing, they can never achieve this certainty. They are leading a life of boredom and frustration. They have no past, no present, and are waiting hopelessly ... Their language is also absurd in that it is void of meaning to reflect the psychological destruction of man. Beckett has portrayed his characters as pair of tramps representing humanity at large, as aimless. However, they are not characters, but the embodiment of basic human attitudes. As mentioned before, the play starts on a country road, by a tree where two old tramps are waiting. The tree is used as a stage image. It may stand for hope, death or passage of time. The road is also a stage image in that it reflects the aimless figures who have no definite destination. Time is also significant; hence, it is not definite time. It signifies the spiritual ... The Usefulness of Functionalism for an Understanding of the Family The Functionalists see the family as an important and vital institution in society. They take a MACRO view and look at interdependence between the family and other organisations. Functionalists look at the positive parts to society but overlook the negatives. They emphasise on the value consensus and see the family as being universal. Other people s outlooks disagree with this view, such as the Marxists, the Marxist Feminists and the Radical Feminists. Item B describes the way in which functionalists view the functional pre requisites or the essentials of societies if they are to survive. Functionalists writers such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of such a group are the Kibbutz. The Israeli Kibbutz is a form of commune, and is one of the most famous and successful attempts to establish an alternative to the family. Here, the emphasis is on collective child rearing, the community as a whole taking over the tasks of the family. Murdock does not consider diversity when considering these pre requisites. Functionalists also believe in value consensus. It is the idea which suggests that the role of agencies such as the family is to socialise members of society into shared norms and values, which is the basis for social order. Primary socialisation completes this value consensus. Parsons was an American functionalist writer who examined family life in the 1950s. He argued that there are two basic functions of the family that are found in every society. These are the primary socialisation of children and the stabilisation of human personalities. Parson believes that this socialisation in the family is so powerful that society s culture actually becomes part of the individuals personality people are moulded in terms of the central values of the culture and act in certain ways almost without thinking about it. Parsons therefore argues that families are like factories producing human personalities, and only the family can provide the emotional warmth and security to achieve this. Parsons, ... An Elephant Crack Up Analysis Zainab Jafri Mr. Ballinger ENG 101 ML 3 October, 2016 Intrusions Leading to Decays Although elephants and humans are different species, they share some important psychological and cultural tendencies from which we can learn. Elephants are not only known for being religious symbols, but they are also recognized for being a main source of income much like processed foods in America. In The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food, Michael Moss reports on the role of the media and how major food companies use it to get people hooked on foods that are convenient and inexpensive (Moss 262). Researcher Gay Bradshaw sought to combine traditional research into elephant behavior with insights drawn from human neuroscience (Siebert 355) in order to understand exactly why elephants function the way they do. Scientists performed an MRI scan on an elephant brain to conclude that brain organization and early development of elephants and humans are extremely similar (Siebert 357). We learn that elephants are capable of exhibiting behavior typically associated... with trauma related disorders in humans (Siebert 356). This helps us understand that elephants are developing violent behaviors because, like humans, they can experience trauma. The discovery of the relations between humans and elephants help understand the severe emotional affect that human involvement can have on elephants. Scientists and doctors are also realizing that food industries may have gone too far in creating and marketing products that posed the greatest food concerns (Moss 260). Food companies are using technology to collect the opinions that consumers have on their products (Moss 263). This is benefitting food companies because they are making products that are helping their profit sales since they are appealing to the demands of their consumers. • 7. Describe The Difference Between Right Atrium And Right... The heart is made up of four chambers, two atriums and two ventricles. The right side of the heart receives deoxygenated blood and pumps the blood to the lungs, whereas the left side of the heart receives the oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the rest of the body. The right side of the heart consists of the right atrium and right ventricle. The right atrium receives the deoxygenated blood via the vena cava (both the inferior and superior) from the rest of the body. The blood then travels through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle where it then gets pumped to the lungs, where gas exchange can occur. The chambers on the left side of the heart are the left ventricle and atrium. The left atrium receives the oxygenated blood from the lungs via the pulmonary vein. It is then pumped through the atrioventricular valve into the left ventricle, where it is pumped through the aorta and to the rest of the body. One adaptation of the heart is the thickness of the walls. The ventricles have thicker walls than the atria as blood gets pumped out with higher pressures. The call to the church to all Christians is to rediscover the cultural mandate, embracing the opportunity to influence culture. Jaschik also describes another example with Roy Stamper, an associate writing director, who followed an online student discussion board where students discussed how they felt about plagiarizing which led Stamper to discover that there was also a strong, intense reaction from other students much of it critical (263). Madame Zeroni gives Elya a family lullaby that is actually about his future descendent, Stanley and Madame Zeroni s future descendent, Zero. The if only song in Holes foreshadows Stanley and Zero s character development. The reader is first introduced to the lullaby in the subplot of Elya and Madame Zeroni. Madame Zeroni gave this song to Elya, telling him that if he sang the lullaby to his pig while it was drinking, then it would grow bigger. Manjoo s purpose is to convince people that have not joined the networking giant that the benefits of joining Facebook outweigh the arguments to avoid it. He adopts a cogent tone in order address any concerns of the Facebook holdouts. Manjoo opens his article by reciting a message that Mark Zuckerberg posted to the company s blog, which stated that Facebook had reached its 150 millionth member. It was a quintessential moment for the social networking giant, because it demonstrated the popularity and prominence in how people network and stay connected with one another. For comparison purposes, Manjoo states, If Facebook were a country, it would be the eight most populated in the world, just ahead of Japan, Russia and Nigeria (Manjoo, 2009). He estimates that Facebook will grow to nearly 300 million people by this time next year in order to show the continuing popularity and growth of Facebook (Manjoo, 2009). Manjoo was correct in his estimation in terms of growth and has continued since the time of publication of the article. In fact, as of January 2014, the number of monthly individual Facebook users surpassed 1.3 billion ( Facebook statistics, 2014). These numbers are significant because it shows a shift in how people interact with one another and that the majority of people with access to the internet use Facebook. In order to find ... Madoff Bernie Madoff amp; the Worst Pyramid Scheme in U.S. History It is said that we are the product of our upbringing, so it probably would not surprise you to learn that the biggest and worst financial fraud committed through a pyramid scheme in US History, was achieved by a man who was raised by parents that also commit financial frauds. Bernie Madoff was raised watching his parents Ralph and Sylvia Madoff run a business that was not successful in the financial trading world. That company was named Gibraltar Securities. Due to the fact that Sylvia failed to accurately report their company s financial condition, the SEC closed the business in 1963 and started its investigative proceedings to determine if charges were needed to be ... Actually having a legitimate legal running successful company to further your reputation as a highly successful investor really helps, but how do you have billions of dollars invested in your company, that is ultimately already lost before you even cash the check given to you? That in itself must have taken a lot of time and energy, and when the scheme was discovered, Bernie stated that he alone ran his scheme. For someone that has no problem stealing money from his investors, it seems odd that his reason to take all the credit for the running of this scheme would be to protect the others that were involved. Is he really protecting them or is his ego so big that he wants all the credit? That is a question that we will never have the answer to unless Bernie himself answers it. But there is one person who has come forward. Frank DiPascali, the former financial chief, became the star witness against Bernie Madoff. Mr. Depascali was very forthcoming in giving information and he detailed how the scheme was able to be hidden for so long, and how it all comes down to technology. What? How does technology have anything to do with hiding a pyramid scheme? Well, Bernie had an emergency operations building that housed different versions of computers, software programs, printers, copiers, paper, company logos, and company ... If other racing teams are not using these new turbo systems and also not having gasket problems, it seems likely this could be causing too much pressure on the gaskets, causing the failures. If that is the case, they would have to make the decision to race based on the chance of failure to be 29%. In order for this problem to be fixed, research would have to be done to find out how they could rebuild the turbo so that it would not break the gaskets or rebuilding the gaskets so they can with stand the extra stress from the turbo. This brings about the main constraint in this case, time. Even if they had better gaskets, they do not have time to replace them in one hour. As an American, our culture regarding marriage is very basic with searching for love on our own and then deciding for ourselves who we should marry or even if we shall marry at all. This article gives insight into how this process is viewed as acceptable and the complex process of arranging a marriage for a son. Domestic violence is often defined as a pattern of abusive tactics aimed to maintain power and control over an intimate partner, such as physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse. Like many social problems, domestic violence can happen to anybody and can be perpetrated by anybody. It is generally accepted that as many as 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010). Furthermore, it is believed that domestic violence impacts individuals with disabilities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may be the result of the lack of differences among the help seeking behavior and requested services of survivors across identities. For example, one study found that LGBTQ individuals have sought help at rates similar to their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts (Turell Cornell Swanson, 2005). With that being said, the study also reported a low rating of helpfulness of service providers from this group (Turell Cornell Swanson, 2005). LGBTQ indidivuals reported that domestic violence programs, police, attorneys, and clergy were the least helpful when seeking help related to a violent incident, while family and friends were able to satisfy their needs (Turell Cornell Swanson, 2005). While this could be interpreted as a lack of response from these agencies regarding domestic violence towards LGBTQ individuals, it should also be noted that some of these agencies receive low ratings of helpfulness from survivors across all identities. For example, the police response to domestic violence has long been criticized by survivors of partner violence (Li et al., 2015). In some ways, the police response to domestic violence has even worsened since the implementation of VAWA with mandatory arrest policies disproportionately impacting women and other minorities (Qtd. in Li et al., 2015; Sudbury, 2003). Furthermore, Chen Ullman predicted that the police response to sexual and domestic violence is greatly influenced by myths perpetrated by rape culture such as disbelief of victims (Chen Ullman, 2014). Identification Of Unknown Organisms And Two Eukaryotes Identification of Unknown Organisms Benjamin Nibarger Professor Hoffman Monday 11:15 AM Group Members Jamie Jerome, Natalie Perez, Ruth Pinzon September 27, 2014 Introduction The purpose of this study is to identify four unknown organisms. The unknown organisms have been assigned randomly to six research groups by Professor Hoffman. Each research group was provided two eukaryotes and two prokaryotes. The unknown organisms will fall into the following classifications: bacteria, algae, fungi, or protozoans. All living organisms are organized into one of three domains of life, Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya. The Domain Bacteria Bacteria and Archaea are prokaryotic, which are mostly single celled incomplex microorganisms. Both Bacteria and Archaea have a variety of prokaryotes classified in multiple kingdoms (Reece, et al., Campbell Biology, 2014). There are a number of scientists who believe that Archaea cells may be the precursor to Eukaryotic cells and that they have more in common with Eukaryotes than Prokaryotes (Madigan, Martinko, Dunlap, 2009). Prokaryotes are ubiquitous, successfully adapting to diverse environments as well as developing symbiotic relationships with host organisms (Lengeler, Drews, Schlegel, 1999). Prokaryotes may have both autotrophic and heterotrophic characteristics. A cyanobacteria is photosynthetic, commonly called blue green algae, and may produce toxins (Crayton, 1993). Thus, Liberation Theologists argue that capitalism should be confronted as pure evil and replaced by a more just and equitable socialist system. Biological bases of mental life and behaviour Task A. Answer the following five learning objectives [maximum 100 words per objective] 1. Explain the structure of neurons. How do neurons communicate with each other? How does the Endocrine system communicate? A neuron consists of a cell body, axon and dendrites. The cell body has a neuron, which is the control centre that controls and regulates the activities of the neuron. The dendrites are extending in a branch formation, projecting out from the cell body, which receives nerve impulses. The nerves travels down the axon until it reaches the synapse, which are the gap between two neurons. The nerve impulse must be converted into a neurotransmitter to be received by the other neuron triggering an electrical impulse. With the endocrine system, messages are sent into the bloodstream by hormones, which amplify the signal to the whole body. Only the cells with the correct receptors will activate. 2. Describe the Peripheral Nervous System and explain the two systems involved in work/exercise and rest. The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that branch out from the brain and the spinal cord. It has two components, the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. Plenty of religions involve secrecy, where believers are told things forbidden to outsiders, and where further information is often revealed in stages as believers rise through the ranks. With religion there are lot of reasons for secrecy, to avoid outsiders obtaining sacred knowledge only privy to people in a certain religion or occult. Most religions believe that knowledge is sacred and to be shared with only insiders in the religion who wholehearted believe and respect the religion. He believed that expansion was wrong because the U.S. was trying to constitutionalize lands and people out of its jurisdiction. He felt that people s rights were being sacrificed for cash flow. In reference to dealing with the Filipino problem, he proposed that the U.S. merely aid rather than control. The U.S. was able to help Cuba stabilize a government while protecting them with the Monroe Doctrine. Bryan felt that the same solution could have been asserted to the Philippines problem. The difference in the self interest of Anti imperialists is that they are viewing it from the Filipinos point of view. The annexation of the Philippines was justified by President William McKinley in 1898, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Case Study Of Bhopal Gas Tragedy HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL PROJECT December 2nd of 1984 marked the eve of one of the world s most extensive and deadliest industrial disasters, known now, thirty years later, as The Bhopal Gas Tragedy or The Bhopal Disaster , among others. Essentially: between twenty seven and forty tons of methyl isocyanate gas and other assorted chemicals leaked from a tank at a plant owned by Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL), the Indian subsidiary of the American company Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), itself a subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company (Eckerman). This catastrophic failure followed the introduction of water into an MIC storage tank, which caused an explosive chain reaction (Dhara). The chemical cloud produced by the reactions, which the plant s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The plant s placement (near a densely populated area) was noted as hazardous years before the tragedy, but UCC insisted on the location. The planning board s motivation for their insistence was primarily that it was cheaper to build using a pre existing plant in the non ideal location as a basis rather than building an entirely new plant in the more thinly populated area the Bhopal government had designated for hazardous industry (Eckerman). Had the plant been built in a more sparsely populated area, casualties and damage from the gas leak might have been drastically reduced. The tragedy might have been completely averted had UCC opted to use the more expensive production process (obviating the need for MIC) instead of the cheaper, more dangerous process (as discussed above). More economies were taken with the safety and security systems (Eckerman), which, properly installed and maintained, might have kept the tragedy from happening or lessened its effects; although the company maintained at first that the Bhopal plant was equipped as well as were its plants in other countries, UCC later admitted that the safety equipment in the plant was subpar ... • 39. The Resistance Of Bacteria And Antibiotics The resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is becoming a grave and global medical problem. This is because whenever antibiotics are taken the development of resistance is a given consequence; bacteria adapt to changing environmental conditions through the continuous process of evolution. The main issue with antibiotics is not whether but when antibiotic resistance will occur. This resistance is caused by the lack of new antibiotics available and continuing over prescription of antibiotics. Any bacteria that acquire resistance alleles, by either random mutation or genetic exchange with other bacteria, have the capability to resist multiple antibiotics. Therefore, the process of bacteria gaining multiple resistance attributes over time gives bacteria the ability to become resistant to many different families of antibiotics. Nosocomial infections are, in particular, an progressively prevalent problem. This is because weakened immune systems of hospital patients make them particularly vulnerable to infection. E. coli is frequent cause of infection, especially in the urinary tract. This means patients catheters could easily be at risk to a resistant strand of E.coli. In the US alone, the overall cost for medical intervention of nosocomial urinary tract infections is staggering, with approximately $424 million to $451 million spent annually in the United States to manage these infections (source). Alarmingly, 17.3% infections requiring hospitalisation have been attributed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diversification and Variance Reduction When uncertain numbers are averaged together, the distribution of the average goes up in the middle and down on the ends, becoming more centralized. This centralizing of the distribution is the primary manifestation of diversification. The width or narrowness of a distribution defines the range of uncertainty of the number. The wider the distribution, the greater the variance, standard deviation and uncertainty. The Central Limit Theorem If enough independent samples of almost any distribution are averaged together, then the resulting distribution will be normal . The Normal Distribution The normal distribution is an idealization of the result of averaging a large number of identical, independent random variables. They are centered at their mean or average. This is a technique for learning and improvement containing four phases, plan, do, study and act. An interesting insight into the basis for this idea is that there is no knowledge with interpretation of data (Mauleon Bergman, 2009). Nearly 50 years after his death, researchers are continuing to incorporate Shewhart s principles in an effort to improve quality in healthcare. In a recently published paper, control charts were used to identify patients who developed adverse outcomes following elective colon resection (Fry, Pine, Jones Meimbah, 2012). These patients may have experienced a special cause variation resulting in an increased length of stay in the hospital. An awareness of the factors that may contribute to the occurrence of these variations may lead to improved outcomes and decreased costs. W. • 45. Dust Bowl Essay According to answers.com, a dust bowl is a region reduced to aridity by drought and dust storms. The best known dust bowl is doubtless the one that hit the United States between 1933 and 1939. One major cause of that Dust Bowl was severe droughts during the 1930 s. The other cause was capitalism. Over farming and grazing in order to achieve high profits killed of much of the plain s grassland and when winds approached, nothing was there to hold the devastated soil on the ground. The Dust Bowl affected the Great Plains which consist of parts of the U.S. states of Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming. By 1940, 2.5 million people had moved out of the Plains states; of those, 200,000 moved to California. Arriving in California, the migrants were faced with a life almost as difficult as the one they had left. Many California farms were corporate owned. They were larger, and more modernized that those of the southern plains, and the crops were unfamiliar. Many farmers from the Great Plains ended up picking cotton and grapes for wages as low as 0.75 $ a day. Other asylums included Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and New Mexico. The vast majority of Dust Bowl migrants stayed on the West Coast permanently. The Dust Bowl also inspired painters and other artists. One of the best known artists in connection with the Dust Bowl is Alexandre Hogue. His picture s name is simply Dust Bowl . An artist who compares the Dust Bowl to nowadays air pollution is Heather Watts. Her best known picture is the New Dustbowl Blues . • 47. Early Childhood Development Is A Beneficial Tool, It... Babies are fascinating. According to the Center for Disease Control, 3,932,181 of them were born in the United States in 2013, of which 40.6% were born to unmarried women. It is true that most parents want what is best for their children; however, the methodology and resources for childrearing vary from home to home. Today s society is built on self discipline, self reliance, and skill; therefore, the development of little ones must take center stage. However, this development is unique just as the children and the parents who are responsible for their upbringing are unique. While preschool programs can be a beneficial tool, it should not be mandatory because there is no significant evidence of success for federally funded programs; early childhood development occurs diversley among children; and parents alone are best qualified and responsible to nurture their preschoolers as they see fit. Some believe that the best way to tackle the challenge of a high functioning society is to mandate a well defined preschool program. In 1965, Head Start became a federally funded organization designed to foster early development for families who could not access it otherwise. (Clemmitt, 2014). These families were classified as low income and benefitted from additional health services, social and emotional skills development, academic skills, as well as education on parenting. So much emphasis has been placed on the development of preschool age children that in 2014, Congress not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite this scenario could resemble a perfect Hollywood movie, the Italian Mafia is all but showing one s power and wealth. One of the most powerful but at the same time more hidden Mafias, is the Ndrangheta, the Calabrian one. To reflect briefly on the etymology of the word Ndrangheta is not merely an academic exercise, but could instead give us important cues on its historical analysis. The Picciotto is the first step of the Ndrangheta s career in the Minor Society: he is merely an executor of orders, forced to obey the high levels of the ndrina with the only hope of gaining immediate benefits. The Camorrista is an affiliate that deserves a certain importance because he reached this position after a period of training. He can complete missions that the Picciotto cannot afford. The Sgarrista is the last step of the Minor society, and has the highest relevance. Within the major society we have a huge variety of roles, among which we can mention the Vangelo (gospel), that is a person who has sworn with his hand on the gospel. It is interesting to notice that all the people that don t belong to the Ndrangheta are called the Contrasts, while those who are not members but sympathize with it are called Honored Contrasts.( Roberto Saviano La Ndrangheta al Nord ) Another feature that differences Ndrangheta from the other Italian Mafias is the role of females as members.
