Jerks In The Workforce
Jerks are a problem in the workforce because no one wants to work with them. They are toxic
people who effect everyone around them. Jerks are a problem in most every field of work and
they are hard to avoid. They can cause people to quit or be less productive because of their
toxicity. The group in the podcast classifies jerks as the people who are always bad mouthing,
they take credit for everything, they are over confident and they are the most productive
workers. These features cause jerks to be more toxic. They talk about research done at Harvard
that states a net loss occurs when you combine these features. Jerks are also the people whom are
suck ups to the bosses and who stay later than everyone else to be seen as a hard worker. Toxic

The Themes Of Hope And Freedom In The Shawshank Redemption
In the film, The Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont, symbolism was used to
highlight the main idea of holding onto hope. Darabont has effectively used different symbols
throughout the film to convey the themes of hope and freedom in Shawshank. Remember Red,
hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. This quote said by
Andy Dufresne in a letter to Red shows that Shawshank was portrayed as a place of hopelessness
at the start. But it was through the use of these symbols, music, the library, and the birds, that
made the viewer truly understand how Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no
good thing ever dies. Music was used as a symbol in Shawshank to show the importance of... Show

This symbol was firstly shown used through Jake the crow. Jake was a very close friend of
Brooks. He had taken care of Jake ever since he had found it with an injured wing and nursed it
back to health. Jake was used as a symbol in the film to highlight the theme of hope, as Jake was
found by Brooks with an injured wing after it had fallen out of its nest. Jake shows that hope was
still present even in the darkest of times in life. Later on in the film, we see that Brooks was
released from prison because of parole. This lead to Brooks releasing Jake before leaving prison
and represents Brooks letting go of any hope he has of surviving life in the outside world. He
symbolically looks for Jake while feeding the birds in the park, thinking he just might show up
and say hello. Sadly, he neither finds Jake nor hope outside of prison. Brooks could not cope
with the world outside of prison as he was institutionalised and results in him committing
suicide. Another instance of birds being used as a symbol was after Andy escaped Shawshank
prison. Red symbolizes Andy as being a caged bird in prison when he says, Sometimes it makes
me sad, though... Andy being gone. I have to remind myself that some birds aren t meant to be
caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was
a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much

The History and Production of Yummy Jelly Beans Essay
Jelly Beans
Around the world small, sweet, sugar filled candies bring enjoyment to those who consume them.
What are these tiny, pleasure inducing sweets? The answer is jelly beans. Jelly beans are produced
in numerous varieties and flavors; therefore, their story is just as diverse and colorful as they are.
The History of Jelly Beans Initially, the first jelly bean was created in the early 1800s by an
unknown American candy maker. However, one can trace back the beginnings of their production
process to 17th century France. The French made Jordan Almonds, sugar glazed almonds, by a
process called panning, which is now used to make the hard sugar coating on jelly beans. Panning
is the rocking of a desired item in a container filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the trays are coated with a light layer of cornstarch, which is then left to dry overnight. The
next day, the cornstarch layer is removed, the middles are put through a moisture steam bath, and
are finally sprayed with sugar and left to sit for another twenty four to forty eight hours. Next, is
the panning process where the centers of the bean are set in a rotating drum, called an
engrossing pan. While the center is rotating, sugar is added gradually to build the hard outer
shell. During this time, colors and flavors are also added to get the unique look and taste of the
bean. Once finished, confectioner s glaze is added to give the beans a shiny, smooth, and silky
appearance. After the beans have been polished (a process that can take two to four days) they are
ready to be shipped to companies and stores. Overall, the whole process can take between seven to
twenty one days depending on the manufacturer. Consumers can find jelly beans in most candy
shops, mini marts, and grocery stores. If interested in specifically buying Jelly Belly brand,
consumers can go to the Jelly Belly website to make their specialized orders.
Flavors To begin with, there were only a few flavors of jelly beans; however, today there are many
brands all with their own unique renditions on numerous flavors. The Jelly Belly Company is
known for its wide and unusual range of flavors. Their most popular has changed throughout the
years, but Very Cherry

Safe Space Research Paper
Safe spaces have gotten plenty of media attention in recent years, commonly being talked about as
a way to influence college campuses. From what I ve heard, many students want a place to be free
from scrutiny and discrimination. I have also heard about how guest lectures at colleges are
affecting the demand for safe spaces, depending on the speaker and their chosen subject, students
choose to protest lecturers they find offensive or violating to their personal beliefs. Thus, causing
the collective demand for a spacefree from threatening opposing views. I can understand why
students would want safe spaces, but it just seems unnecessary and potentially problematic. My
goal is to learn as much as I can about the potential implications of safe... Show more content on

One thing I notice over and over again in my research is that adults all seem to believe that
college is not supposed to make students comfortable, it s meant to push them and expose them
to new people and ideas. Former President of the United States, Barack Obama argues, the
purpose of college is not just, as I said before, to transmit skills. It s also to widen your horizons;
to make you a better citizen; to help you to evaluate information; to help you make your way
through the world; to help you be more creative. Students should have a place they feel safe and
able to be themselves. However, the belief that I need to be safe ideologically, I need to be safe
emotionally, I just need to feel good all the time. And if someone else says something that I don t
like, that is a problem for everyone else is very harmful and unattainable. Katherine Byron, a Brown
University student and an advocate for safe spaces wants to make her campus a safe place for
rape victims. So when a guest lecturer came to Brown and was going to talk on the issue of rape
culture Byron set up a safe space for anyone who found the debate too upsetting. The room was
equipped with cookies, coloring books, bubbles, Play Doh, calming music,

The On The Gaming Industry
The gaming industry took America so far in entertainment for generations of young and old to
play for decades to come. Starting from one of the developers of the atomic bomb used in World
War II to the present day console wars of PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo games have been
played. Computer engineers took steps and chances with their ideas, making them into
successful business men in a brand new industry, creating new products of imagination, science,
and reality. If there were no video games modern day products and small industries such as apple
would not exist since Atari hired Steve Jobs to come work for them and not pushing him to the
limit of the apple computer. New worlds were in place for developers and customers to explore
and enjoy. The developer of the atomic bomb and first person to take a chance was William
Higinbotham. His game started in Brookhaven in which he took charge and calling it Tennis for
Two. His invention was simulated on a screen was a vertical side view of a tennis court showing
the edge floor with the edge of a floor with the edge of the net perpendicular to it (Games...). The
game system came with two controls having one knob and button on each one giving players to hit
a small dot representing the ball moving back and forth. The actual device was connected to an
oscilloscope having a simple design, although Higinbotham worked with technical specialist Robert
V. Dvorak, who built it and Alexander Elia is designing, designs the blueprints.

The Importance Of Communication In My Culture
In society today, people have friends that belong to numerous diverse cultural groups. When it
comes to meeting new people from unique cultural groups, the form of communication are all
different. Those that do not use the correct form of communication when encountering new people
from different ethnicity, it can lead to misunderstanding and tremendous conflicts. For instance, I
am Vietnamese and in our culture, the way people communicate determines their characteristics,
personalities, and how educated they are. This is extremely important in my culture since it reveals
how we treat adults and if we admire them or not. On the other hand, my friend Yary, who is
Cambodian, her way of communicating defines how respectful one is, based on their tone. The
Cambodian and the Vietnamese s lifestyle tends to have multiple similarities, but also have a few
differences about certain topics. When it comes to communicating, the situational context, physical
appearance, and self presentation all plays a different role in every heritage. To learn extend my
knowledge about different cultures and their way of communicating, I interviewed my friend Yary,
to compare and contrast our way of communicating through our culture.

Essential Competencies For Electrician
Essential Competencies for an Electrician
The work of electricians demands the application of specific knowledge, skills, and abilities among
other competencies. The competencies span a wide range of requirements. Notably, these
competencies are imperative, but not all of them are critical or essential. The set of essential
competencies delineates high performers from average performers. The following are some of the
essential competencies in this field.
Building and construction Knowledge
The knowledge of building and construction is imperative as it encompasses other skills as well. It
includes the utmost knowledge of methods, tools and materials applied in the construction and

Moreover, it is not uncommon for this student to represent the community college as an athlete; in
keeping with traditional four year colleges and universities, student athletes enjoy the benefit of
housing as one prong of their athletic scholarship package, i.e. tuition, room and board. Other
attributes include vast numbers of first generation students, students of color, and full time students.
Perhaps the rationale behind the lack of on campus housing offered at community colleges, which
is in stark contrast to that of four year colleges and universities, is the fact that a large number of
community college students live in the community, or the urban community colleges are situated
whereby students may make use of mass transit means to get back and forth. This is how the

Athenian Comedy Research Paper
Athenian Comedy Way back when, only males were allowed to be in plays. Since there was
limited males who actually wanted to perform, some guys had to take on more than one role. The

Athenian comedy is broken up into three section: Old comedy, New comedy, and Middle comedy.
OLD COMEDY
Old comedy came about in honors of Dionysus. It was based on Fertility riots and political satire.
It was comedy of the 5th century B.C. The only play that was completed from the earliest days was

They joked around about all kinds things that were happening around them. It could be about
famous people to the neighbors dog. They joked about religion and mythology, but they never
seemed to mention the higher gods. They would over exaggerate and have such colorful language.

Do The Right Thing Analysis
Do the Right Thing
Films document critical historical events, entertain masses and educate the public on particular
practices. Depending on the theme and intent of the director, films have a substantial contribution
to the human civilization. Do the Right Thing directed by Spike Lee is a1989 American comedy
drama that highlights the racial tension in the ancient society. The filmdepicts a typical day for Lee
in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn when strains between the whites, Indians and African Americans
were on the rise. The production of the film took place when the issues regarding the African
Americans were largely ignored. Therefore, the setting of the video in a black dominated
community illuminates the style as well as outcomes of good and bad (Townsend). It addresses the
stereotypical notions that defined Africans as dangerous and violent by portraying a picture of

Battlestar Galactic A Space Exodus
Battlestar Galactica: A Space Exodus
Battlestar Galactica an epic space opera about the last remnants of humanity, the few survivors of
nuclear attack banded together in fleet of spaceships, on an intergalactic journey to find there
mythic homeland of Earth. Though there are other versions of this television show this paper
refers to the 2003 reimagining by showrunner Ronald D Moore. On the surface Battlestar
Galactica might not look like it has a lot in common with The Torah, the story of the Jewish
people who after an exile from their homeland ended up founding Israel, but when looked at
closely these two stories share many commonalities. The book of Exodus, found in The Torah as
well as the old testament of the Bible, tells the story of the enslaved Jewish people who are lead, by
Moses, out of Egypt and after a long and harrowing journey arrive at a divinely promised
homeland. In the following books of Numbers and Deuteronomy we learn that Moses is
forbidden from entering the Promised Land after disobeying God. Battlestar Galactica also
features a people who have lost their home, the Colonist, who end up living under an oppressive
regime on New Caprica. Their leader, President Roslin, is prophesized about in a holy text to have
been predestined to lead the Colonist to their new home. Both the narrative in The Torah and in
Battlestar Galactica share many similar beats; they feature a long suffering people, made up of

Big Data And Business Innovation
Introduction In this modern age of constant technological advancement and business innovation, a
relatively new feature has unlocked more potential for businesses to improve: Big Data. Big Data
can be defined in many different ways. It has become important primarily for business decision
making.
One aspect of business that Big Data is now affecting is the auditing profession. Many
opportunities exist for Big Data to improve the standard auditing procedure. However, certain
challenges may prevent it from assisting in its full potential. In addition to challenges in the
auditing profession, Big Data also has its own ethical implications. In this report, all of these facets
of Big Data will be discussed in detail.
Definitions Big Data refers to the large amounts of data that businesses deal with on a day to
day basis. Big Data can be defined in many ways, but this is one of the most general definitions.
One of the primary uses businesses have for Big Data is to provide assistance for decision
making. In order for Big Data to be effective, organizations must utilize the data to their advantage.
The quality of information is what matters, not the quantity. Organizations may have virtually
unlimited amounts of data to work with, but they must locate the helpful portions of data in order
for it to be effective and serve its purpose. In addition, some data may not be helpful at the present
moment in time, but will be needed for analysis in the future ( What Is Big Data? ,

Analysis Of Don t Blame The Eater
Is Greed actually not of a financial use rather than a emotional use. If so would employees who
work at fast food establishments or even major corporate heads of these billion dollar fast food
chains allow their own children to indulge themselves in them, knowingly aware of the vast
risks they could embark on later in life due to their unhealthy choices? David Zinczenko brings
up valid points on how fast food is harmful to one s body in Don t Blame the Eater, . Zinczenko
is able to effectively argue against the manipulation of the food industry by showing the reader
that the consumer is the victim while the food industry is the one to blame. His use of
questioning, personal appeals, imagery, direct tone and colorful diction results in a compelling
case that supports his accusations of manipulation by the fast food industry. Zinczenko asks
questions to support his arguments and guide the reader to what he believes to be actually true.
He starts off the essay using an analogy: is the case of children who sued McDonald s for their
obesity the same as the case of middle aged men suing Porsche for their speeding tickets?
(Paragraph 1). He points out the fallacy of the men suing someone else for something that was their
own fault (such as receiving a speeding ticket), but brings attention to children who shouldn t be
blamed for what society claims is their responsibility. The next question he asks relates to what fast
food restaurants would argue/rebuttal with; shouldn t we

Tell them what you have learned from the relationship and let them know that you will carry on this
knowledge forever. You can further use your experience from this relationship when you come to
problems in future relationships. Do not attack the person with how they hurt you or hit them with
personal blows. True, there is a reason you are breaking up, but there is no need to include that
because it will only start an argument. This leads us to our next matter, what to do if they ask what
went wrong?
If the person asks what went wrong do not verbally attack them. This could lead to many
situations that could make the break up more difficult, including an unwanted fight. Tell them
simply that it is you and blame yourself. If you blame them they could try to convince you that
they can change when you know they can?t. However, if you blame yourself, he or she cannot

you, you don?t want a serious relationship right now or you have other priorities to tend to. Make
sure the excuse is something that they could not change about their self. This could lead to being
manipulated into staying.
After the initial break up is over, make sure to cut off all contact with this person. Do not call them
or go places you might see them. Avoid them at all costs. If you continue to

Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease past infancy among children in the
United States. At a very young age, childhood cancer had impacted my life physically, mentally and
emotionally. It definitely changed my perspective on how I will live my life through on out.
According to the American Cancer Society, there are sixteen major types of childhood cancers and
over 100 subtypes. Leukemia and Lymphoma cancer are the most common cancers that
children get at a young age. Everyday forty six kids are diagnose with childhood cancer and
seven children die every day. Childhood cancer kills more kids than Cystic Fibrosis, AIDS, and
asthma combined! The worst part about childhood cancer is that the treatment side affects can
last a lifetime for these kids. People do not understand that childhood cancer only gets a small
percentage of the budget for all cancers. National Cancer Institute budget is around $4.9 billion

What Is The Spread Of English
Distribution of the English verb forms used to talk about Future Event The development of the
rules of English grammar were given from the every written language. We always think about who
has given impact or development of the grammar rules, and who has made them. In most of the
European countries, the grammar had been developed in order to teach Latin, and because of that it
had became the Lingua de Franca in the western countries of Europe, because the rule of the Roman
Empire. And because of their presence, they had forced countries to study and communicate in
Latin language, and that why today the science, and medicine generally are always taught or used
in Latin language. Talking about English language grammar impact, we automatically specify the
West Saxon or Wessex dialect, which it remains to be the very first English Standardised language

important spoken dialect in the Monastery of Winchester, which it was also the main city of the
English Kings. During the fourteenth century, the England kingdom had lost most of it dominion
to the French, and because of that, the eminence or their leaders lost the totality of their connections
of the French speakers. Some of the great writers like Geoffrey Chaucer and John Wycliffe the bible

Essay Silver Linings Playbook Review
SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK REVIEW Everyone has quirks that make him or her an
individual. We filter through life, attempting to seamlessly weave our oddities into a normal
person. As difficult as trying to fit circles into squares, the silver lining in these valiant attempts is
that the normal person doesn t exist. That is what writer director David O. Russell understood
when making The Silver Linings Playbook, The film is a fantastic study in how our individual
quirks, though varying in degree, have the ability to render all of us completely insane. The film
focuses on disgraced former schoolteacher Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper) as he attempts to reinvent
himself using life s silver linings. The film begins when Solitano is... Show more content on

The film is obviously based on a novel. The dialogue, setting and subtle incongruities lend itself
to pen and paper as opposed to a movie theatre. It needs a novel s freedom to slowly develop
characters. The dialogue between Cooper and Lawrence feels ridiculous when your reality has
only been suspended for the film s 122 minute run time. However, this is not the fault of either
actor. In fact, Lawrence is stellar as the blunt, widowed sex addict who refuses to allow Pat to
pretend that his relationship with is ex wife is salvageable. In fact, Tiffany becomes Pat s reason
even though she is just insane as he is. The humor and sexual tension between the actors is
palpable despite sappy, unrealistic lines such as Pat s love confession: The only way to beat my
crazy was by doing something even crazier. Thank you. I love you. I knew it from the moment I
saw you. I m sorry it took me so long to catch up. The catalyst in the story is not, in fact, Pat s
mental illness, so much as his father s own problems. Robert De Neiro is stupendous as an aging
Eagles fan that refuses to give up on his idea of normal. Solitano Sr. is the antagonist; frequently
begging Pat to abandon his silver linings and conform to Solitano Sr s own demented ideas. The
tension between Cooper and De Neiro is amazing. The most realistic aspect of the entire film is

stories are one of the most popular genres of fiction. The authors are many who have found
inspiration from the well known authors Edgar Allan Poe and Conan Doyle. What characterizes
detective fiction is that a crime is introduced and investigated and the culprit is revealed. Once a

The Paralysis Of Eveline
Eveline faces a difficult dilemma: remain home like a dutiful daughter, or leave Dublin with her
lover, Frank, who is a sailor. Eveline Hill sits at a window in her home and reminisce the times
when she as a child played with other children in a field which now has been developed with
new homes As Eveline was trying to make a major decision whether or not to move to Buenos
Ayres (escape) with Frank. She holds two letters, one to her father, one to her brother Harry. She
begins to favor the sunnier memories of her old family life, when her mother was alive and her
brother was living at home. She thought back of the moment she promised her mom that she will
put all her dedication in maintaining this home. And she reasons that her life at home and doing
all of those chores are hard, but perhaps not in the worst position her father isn t always mean,
after all. This memory is also important for another reason as it suggests that a bond (or
connection) still remains between Eveline, her siblings and her father. Despite how her father
treats her, Eveline still feels connected to him. This pushes her to escape from the fate and embark
on a new phase of life. Eveline s action, of dusting every week for so many years is significant as it
suggests repetition, doing the same thing, which in turn would suggest a paralysis within Eveline. It
is also significant that the dust remains. This suggests that no matter how much Eveline does while
at home nothing will change. Appears

пѓ пЂ Since DEA is an extreme point technique, noise (even symmetrical noise with zero mean)
such as measurement error can cause significant problems.
пѓ пЂ DEA is good at estimating relative efficiency of a DMU but it coverage‟s very slowly

not compared to a theoretical maximum.
пѓ пЂ Since DEA is a non parametric technique, statistical hypothesis tests are difficult and are the

Ethical Issues Of Legalizing Marijuana
The legalization of cannabis, much better known as marijuana, is one of the most controversially

better alternative to other medications already permitted for medical use. In 2012, two states
legalized marijuana for recreational use. An additional 18 states, plus the District of Columbia, had
already legalized medical marijuana. Even though marijuana is still illegal at the Federal level,

Improving Feeding Outcomes in the NICU:
Establishing an Infant Driven Feeding Pathway
Laura Pabich BSN, RN
The University of Iowa College of Nursing Improving Feeding Outcomes in the NICU:
Establishing an Infant Driven Feeding Pathway
The most common reason preterm infants face prolonged hospitalization in a Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU) is a delay in acquiring full oral feedings (Shaker, 2013). The purpose of this
project is to improve feeding outcomes for preterm infants at Blank Children s Hospital s (BCH)
NICU in Des Moines, Iowa. Traditionally, feeding practices in the NICU have followed a
physician led, volume driven model based on an infant s weight and gestational age. This model
defines a preterm infant s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feeding difficulties often persist past NICU discharge with an incidence ranging from 19 to 80
percent (Shaker, 2013; Sundseth, 2013). The average daily cost for NICU care often exceeds
$3,500 per infant and a delay in establishing full oral feedings further increases the cost of care
(Murakas, 2008). Delayed discharge also places infants at risk for hospital related morbidity, leads
to prolonged maternal child separation and increases parental stress (Gennattasio, Perri, Baranek,
Rohan, 2015).
Preterm infants face a number of challenges in attaining full oral feedings including physiologic
instability, neurologic immaturity and behavioral state disorganization (Gennattasio, Perri,
Baranek, Rohan, 2015). The time in which preterm infants are learning to feed is characterized
by rapid motor and neurodevelopment in which every feeding experience plays a role (Shaker,
2013). Physiologic stress during feeding may encourage sensory motor pathways in the brain,
leading to maladaptive feeding behaviors, learned feeding refusals and long term feeding
aversions (Shaker, 2013). Traditional, volume driven feeding practices fail to account for an infant
s hunger cues, the physiologic stress caused by the challenge of oral feeding and the quality of an
individual feeding (Newland, Weems L Huillier, Petrey, 2013). According to Sundseth Ross and
Browne (2013), feeding practices must move from

The Prejudice of Maycomb All men are created equal , one of the most ignored statements that our

Prejudice is a topic that is constantly revisited in Harper Lee s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Her
novel focuses on Scout, the daughter of Atticus Finch, living her life in the 1930s of rural
Maycomb, Alabama. Scout witnesses the injustice and prejudice against many people, not only
Negroes. The heat of prejudice rises when Atticus decides to defend Tom Robinson, a black who is

Calpurnia responds that folks don t like to have somebody around knowin more than they do. It
aggravates em. You re not gonna change any of them by talking right, they ve got to learn
themselves, and when they don t want to learn, there s nothing you can do but keep your mouth
shut or talk their language. (Lee 167) Calpurnia s insight offers us a look at the language divide
between whites and blacks. White people dislike a person who speaks like a black and black people
dislike a person who speaks like a white. The fact that the black community despises the way
whites act and vice versa shows the fear of difference. Scout s neighbor, Mrs. Dubose also
dislikes people who act differently, including Atticus, which is shown when, she shouts at Scout.
Yes indeed, what has the world come to when a Finch goes against his raising? I ll tell you. She
put her hand to her mouth. When she drew it away, It trailed a long silver thread of saliva. Your
father s no better than the niggers and trash that he works for! (Lee 135) Mrs. Dubose dislikes
people who act differently than expected. Atticus acted differently than other people earning him
the hatred of Mrs. Dubose. Mrs. Dubose also compares Negroes to trash, showing that she also
hates Negroes, probably because they have different skin color from her. The town of Maycomb

The Woman In Black and The Signalman are both of the same genre horror/ghost stories. This
genre is ideal to create a distinct atmosphere for the reader to be drawn into. The atmosphere the
author creates for the reader is done so by mainly 2 things. Firstly, the characters, descriptions of
supernatural presence, disbelief of the character or narrator and their uncertainty or confusion of
conflict.
Secondly, the setting, the type of setting chosen is very important and the way in which the author

Specific words such as watchfulness and unusually precipitous are used to convey feeling to the
reader. Descriptions of the setting and character s feelings along with the narrator s reaction to all
of these play a crucial part in creating the atmosphere wanted by Dickens. There is a contrast from
nothing; silence and stillness, to something; noise and movement.
The story starts with a shout Halloa! Below there! This is a sudden noise and disturbs the silence.
Dickens describes the shadows from the sunset as a violent pulsation ; the language used here
creates an element of strangeness as if the author is creating almost a horror effect for the reader.
The signalman continues not to respond, this makes the narrator feel uncomfortable because he
knows he is being ignored. The cutting was extremely deep this description suggests danger within

A Brief Note On Seismic Hazard Analysis On The Event Of A...
Summary of proposed research
Seismic hazard analysis is an important tool in mitigating risks in the event of a disastrous seismic
event like an earthquake. This can be done by studying the behaviour of the soil in locations that
are within seismically active regions using several geophysical methods. This project employs the
use the cost effective microtremor method in studying the site response in Kathmandu, Nepal,
following the April 25, 2015 M7.8 Gorkha. Analysis of the field data will yield information that
could be used by the Government and people of Kathmandu, Nepal, in reviewing their building
construction codes and other policies to minimize casualties in the event of an earthquake. This is
very important considering the location of Kathmandu which is within the seismically active
Himalayas.
Statement of the problem
Kathmandu lies within the tectonically active Himalayan mountain range, which is a continental
continental convergent boundary. Kathmandu is located in an approximately 500 m deep
sedimentary basin, which is likely to amplify earthquake shaking (Paudyal et al, 2012). More
than 9000 people were killed and about 22000 injured in Nepal during the magnitude 7.8 Gorkha
earthquake on April 25, 2015, and the M 7.3 aftershock on May 12, 2015, (Nepal National

Crimmins research addresses the many differences in men with coronary artery disease compared to
women with coronary artery disease. The study noted that men have a higher mortality rate
from heart disease than do women (Crimmins et al., 2008). This article also notes that 40 50

Crimmins and colleges noted men develop heart disease 5 to 10 years earlier in life than do
women ( 2008). Evidence suggests that women who are hospitalized for cardiovascular issues
are less likely to receive certain types of drugs and diagnostic and treatment procedures

working class were all welcomed at all sorts of public places including restaurants. Renoir

Sacrifices
Hello, my name is Villette Jones and I am here to give my thoughts, definition, and analysis on
Sacrifice. Sacrifice has many different meaning and even more synonyms to go along with it, a few
words or phrases that catch my immediate attention when thinking of Sacrifice are ( Cede,
Immolate, Endure, and Part With ). However when I asked associates and my peers majority of
them thought of Forfeit. When I take time to really think, in my own opinion Sacrifice is Forfeit,
Suffering, and Offering. These are very significant second hand words to my original word
(Sacrifice), and as you read along I will show you exactly what I mean by it.
The meaning I get from the word Forfeit is Loses, a Penalty, and being deprived of something.
Forfeit is such a major second hand word to Sacrifice and the reason forfeiting is so major, is
because majority of the time you re losing something of significant value. A great story of
someone having to forfeit something for a greater cause is Everett Alvarez Jr. Alvarez Jr is a
former U.S Navy Commander who endured one of the longest periods as a prisoner of war
(P.O.W) in American military history. Alvarez was the first U.S pilot to be downed and detained

Populism In The Wizard Of Oz
One of the Great Classics of the last 100 years has been The Wizard of Oz. Nearly everyone has
seen it and if they haven t seen it, they ve heard about it. The Wizard of Oz has been considered a
vividly imaginative work of fantasy in both its book and movie form. When the movie came out
in 1939 America had its eye turned to the rest of the world as World War 2 unfolded yet it still
captured the attention of many with its use of the new technology Technicolor and its fantastic
story. At the time no one had ever considered it to be anything more than a work of fantasy,
however as the years have gone by people have begun to notice certain aspects of the movie that
relate to a time and eventually a movement that developed earlier in American history.... Show more

Dorothy start on her way down the yellow brick road and meets three important characters. First she
meets the scarecrow with no brain. He represents Farmers and agricultural workers who are
ignorant of many city things but honest and hardworking. Farmers were string supporters of the
populist movement and the scarecrow ends up being a strong supporter of Dorothy throughout the
entire film. Next they meet the tinman. The tinman represents industrial workers. He is a
lumberjack whose body has been replaced with metal. This represents how many workers had
been dehumanized and viewed as only a means to make money. Finally they meet the cowardly
lion. When they first meet the lion he does his best to scare them but ends up being afraid of
them. He tells them he wants to go the emerald city so the wizard can give him courage. He
represents politician William Jennings Bryan. Bryan was a populist presidential candidate and the
out spoken leader of the populist movement. He had been criticized as being a coward for not
supporting the U.S. and its decision to go to war with Spain. Bryan wanted to get into Washington
so he could change American politics. This reflects the lion wanting to go to the emerald city to get
his courage from the wizard. Along the way they run into the wicked witch of the west. She tries to
stop them from getting to the emerald city.

Criminal Justice Vs Restorative Justice
Restorative Justice is the response to bad behaviour criminal restoration and the solution of the
problems caused by a crime (Heath Thorton). In 1994 Restorative Justice began to become more
common. This happened when the American Bar Association approved victim offender mediation.
Restorative Justice first appeared in 1970 as a substitute for the court process. It came out at the
same time as the victims rights movement, which wanted more involvement of victims in the
criminal justiceprocess. Today more than thirty states either have Restorative Justiceprinciples in
their mission statements and policy plans or their lawmaking committee.(Armour)

upon the victim and the offender, accompanied by a small number family members and friends.
Family group conferencing originated in New Zealand and its purpose was to divert young

Important Place In My Life
One of the most important places in my life is a quiet place in Cook County, Illinois.
That place would be a cemetery called St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. To many, this may be a
weird place to choose, but to me it is a safe place to vent and think. You see, St. Mary is the
resting place of my mother, Kimberly Bitsie. Those reasons, are why it is the most important place
in my world.
Cook County is not a place I have ever lived, but my family and I try to visit as often as we can.
My Dad, little brother and I usually try visit once every two to three years, because we visit our
grandparents while in Illinois. When we visit though, we always try to make time to visit the
cemetery because we don t know the next we will be able to see her. It s about a thirty five
minute drive from my grandparent s house, but it s worth the drive. We spend on average thirty
to forty minutes at the cemetery. Before we go into the cemetery, we always stop by this one
store near the cemetery, that sells flower and decorations, to buy a spinner to put on mom s
grave. I was only four when my mom died of cancer, and I only have a few memories of her. So,
being able to visit and try to connect is what makes it special to me. When we go to visit the
cemetery, it is usually around midday. Unlike other cemeteries I have seen or visited, this cemetery
I would put on the better side of the list, with upkeep and location. When you first drive into the
cemetery, you see a big gate and a beautiful stone white

Identity in Good Country People
Characterization is the biggest component that helps build on the themes of identity in the short
story Good Country People written by Flannery O connor. The theme itself is dependent where as
the characters are independent of each other. The characters behaviors build within each other.
Firstly, the main character in this short story is thirty two year old Joy who is now known as
Hulga. Her character is described as vulnerable to other people but in her eyes is seen as superior
to every other character. The feeling of superiority plays a role with her numerous degrees in
philosophy. The perspective of Hulgas identity to other people is indebtedness, this is because of

Hulga, limited by her disabilities of being handicapped and her weak heart as she grew older,
her life has been restricted to the home she grew up in which is why she distants herself from
everyone and has only sticked with her belief in philosophy. Mrs. Hopewell s character is based
on her simplistic view of everyone either being a good country people whom are described as
poorer than landowners like mrs Hopewell and Hulga or white trash describes as poor and
uncultured. She is just like Hulga in the sense that she believes she is superior to everyone else
and thinks she can distinguish between these two classes which are the hard working people or
the untrustworthy people. Mrs. Hopewell has never really let Hulga grow up and still treats her
as if she was still a ten year old because she does think philosophy would open many doors for her
daughter and has never accepted her the way she is. Hulga has all the education and degrees to
start her own life but her mother is the cause of this pause in her life. In comparison to, Mrs.
Freeman who is the complete opposite of Mrs. Hopewell whom she has worked for, for four
years. O connor does not show her point of view in this short story only what Mrs. Hopewell and
Hulga describe her to be. She is described as very outspoken on whatever he thoughts are. She is
very familiar and used to the unexpected due to her daughter Carramaes early marriage and
pregnancy at the age of fifteen.

they spend their money on their cars. The fancier the better. They get all these gadgets for them

People spend their lives wanting more and no matter how much money they have, they never

The Reign Of Ancient Greek Philosophers
Aristotle
The reign of ancient Greek philosophers was one that was remembered for centuries. One
philosopher stood out amongst the rest. He is known as Aristotle. Aristotle made extremely
significant contributions to human knowledge. His writings were extremely incredible and he
paved the way for philosophers long after him. Aristotle was born in 384 B.C in a town called
Stagira in the northern part of Greece. He was born to a set of parents who were members of
medical families. His father was a physician to the King of Macedonia, but later died when
Aristotle was a young boy. Because his father was so close with the court of Macedonia,
Aristotle was still affiliated for the rest of his life. After the death of his father, Aristotle was left
without a guardian. His sister s, Arimneste, husband became his guardian until he was legally
old enough to take care of himself. Around the age of 17, he was sent to Athens to get an
education. Athens was known as the academic core of the world. Aristotle enrolled in Plato s
academy and was one of the top scholars. Plato s academy was one of the top learning centers at
the time. Aristotle formed a relationship with Plato, who was a Greek philosopher, and taught at
the academy for 20 years. Plato died in 347 B.C. Despite their relationship, Aristotle did not agree
with Plato s philosophy, so he did not become the director of the academy after Plato s death.

Essay On The Crucible Charlie Chaplin
Arthur miller s play the crucible and the film the king in New York directed by Charlie Chaplin
explores the way politics and people are intertwined. Both these composers, through their texts,
sagaciously convey the notion of how oppressive politics can be. They instil on the responder of
the way in which politicscan ruin and lead both people and societies to destruction when given too
much power. Arthur miller and Charlie Chaplin were profoundly affected by the mass hysteria of
communism led by the politician Joseph McCarthy that happened in America in the 1950 s. They

Moreover, Abigail challenges the theocratic society through the symbolism of her rising up to

miller demonstrates the way rebellion can be engendered by political systems that repress its

The Buckminster Fullerene Is The Third Allotropic Form Of...
In general, the Buckminster Fullerene is the third allotropic form of Carbon, with the other two
being Graphite and Diamond. The more proper term used to describe these compounds in regards
to Carbon compounds would be Graphenes. (22)
The Buckminster Fullerene was first discovered in 1985 by scientists Harold Kroto, Rickard
Smalley and Robert Curl. (1) They were able to discover that when Graphite is vaporized by a
laser, a variety of large Carbon cluster compounds were formed, the C60 compound or Buckminster
Fullerene, being the most abundant. (1) The other Fullerenes found were C28 C32, C44 and C78.
The C60 compound was named after Buckminster Fuller, as he was responsible for the creation of
many geodesic domes, which resemble ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This involves setting up an arc between two graphite electrodes and using a stream of inert gas,
such as Helium. (1) This causes the Carbon to form vapors, which then condenses into the C60
Fullerene as well as additional types of Fullerenes. Source: S. Chuanchen, G. Haibin, F. Dufei,
Extraction of C60 cluster ion beam, Review of Scientific Instruments, 65, 1405 1407 (1994).
Due to the cage like structure formed during the synthesis of the Fullerene, the compound is able
to trap small molecules of the inert gas within the structure. The general formula used to represent
a gas enclosed within the structure of the Fullerene is nX@C60, where n is the number of
trapped atoms and X represents the trapped gas. (1) The interior diameter of the C60 compound
is 7.09Г…, which is large enough to trap a variety of the noble gases including Helium, Neon,
Argon, Krypton and Xenon. (##) In addition to trapping gases, the Fullerenes are also able to hold
metal ions within the structure. Since the C60 compounds have a high electron affinity, they can
readily accept electrons from alkali metals. The compounds that are formed from the enclosure of
metal ions are known as Endohedral Metallofullerenes. (1) Examples of alkali metals that can be
placed inside the C60 compound include Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium and Caesium. For the alkali
metals, the formula would resemble, M3C60. (1) The process of putting the alkali metals inside the

also has henchmen, which is another characteristic of a villain.
Nowadays, it is hard to understand why it is so horrific that Hero isn t a virgin(but she was). But
in those times being a virgin until marriage was a huge thing. Hero would have been cast out of
court and it would have been the end of her life. Although some women would have gone off to
be nuns. Don John, knowing what would happen to her; carries out his plan to ruin Hero s life
anyway in order to hurt Claudio. The fact that Don John shows no mercy , is more evidence that
he is a credible villain. Don John does not let his emotions get the better of him.

The Effect Of Angular Momentum On Classical Mechanics
INTRODUCTION
We know the importance of Angular Momentum in Classical Mechanics; the total angular
momentum of an isolated physical system is a constant of the motion. For example, if a point
particle P, of mass m, is moving in a central potential (one which depends only on the distance
between P and a fixed point O), the force to which P is subjected is always directed towards O. Its
moment with respect to O is consequently zero, and the angular momentum theorem implies that
derivative of L (Angular momentum of P with respect to O) with respect to time is zero.
This fact has important consequences: the motion of the particle P is limited to a fixed plane (the
plane passing through O and perpendicular to the angular momentum L); moreover, this motion
obeys the law of constant areal velocity (Kepler s Second Law).
All these properties have their equivalents in Quantum Mechanics. With the angular momentum L
of a classical system is associated with an observable L, actually a set of three observables, Lx, Ly,
and Lz, which correspond to the three components of L in a Cartesian Frame. These three
observables commute with the Hamiltonian H for a particle in the central potential V(r). This
property simplifies the determination and classification of eigenstates of H.
Quantization of Angular Momentum: the component, along a fixed axis, of the intrinsic angular
momenta are quantized, which enables us to understand atomic magnetism, the Zeeman Effect, etc.

  • 3. The Themes Of Hope And Freedom In The Shawshank Redemption In the film, The Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont, symbolism was used to highlight the main idea of holding onto hope. Darabont has effectively used different symbols throughout the film to convey the themes of hope and freedom in Shawshank. Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. This quote said by Andy Dufresne in a letter to Red shows that Shawshank was portrayed as a place of hopelessness at the start. But it was through the use of these symbols, music, the library, and the birds, that made the viewer truly understand how Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. Music was used as a symbol in Shawshank to show the importance of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This symbol was firstly shown used through Jake the crow. Jake was a very close friend of Brooks. He had taken care of Jake ever since he had found it with an injured wing and nursed it back to health. Jake was used as a symbol in the film to highlight the theme of hope, as Jake was found by Brooks with an injured wing after it had fallen out of its nest. Jake shows that hope was still present even in the darkest of times in life. Later on in the film, we see that Brooks was released from prison because of parole. This lead to Brooks releasing Jake before leaving prison and represents Brooks letting go of any hope he has of surviving life in the outside world. He symbolically looks for Jake while feeding the birds in the park, thinking he just might show up and say hello. Sadly, he neither finds Jake nor hope outside of prison. Brooks could not cope with the world outside of prison as he was institutionalised and results in him committing suicide. Another instance of birds being used as a symbol was after Andy escaped Shawshank prison. Red symbolizes Andy as being a caged bird in prison when he says, Sometimes it makes me sad, though... And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then the trays are coated with a light layer of cornstarch, which is then left to dry overnight. The next day, the cornstarch layer is removed, the middles are put through a moisture steam bath, and are finally sprayed with sugar and left to sit for another twenty four to forty eight hours. Next, is the panning process where the centers of the bean are set in a rotating drum, called an engrossing pan. While the center is rotating, sugar is added gradually to build the hard outer shell. During this time, colors and flavors are also added to get the unique look and taste of the bean. Once finished, confectioner s glaze is added to give the beans a shiny, smooth, and silky appearance. After the beans have been polished (a process that can take two to four days) they are ready to be shipped to companies and stores. Overall, the whole process can take between seven to twenty one days depending on the manufacturer. Consumers can find jelly beans in most candy shops, mini marts, and grocery stores. It s also to widen your horizons; to make you a better citizen; to help you to evaluate information; to help you make your way through the world; to help you be more creative. And if someone else says something that I don t like, that is a problem for everyone else is very harmful and unattainable. • 22. Analysis Of Don t Blame The Eater Is Greed actually not of a financial use rather than a emotional use. If so would employees who work at fast food establishments or even major corporate heads of these billion dollar fast food chains allow their own children to indulge themselves in them, knowingly aware of the vast risks they could embark on later in life due to their unhealthy choices? David Zinczenko brings up valid points on how fast food is harmful to one s body in Don t Blame the Eater, . Zinczenko is able to effectively argue against the manipulation of the food industry by showing the reader that the consumer is the victim while the food industry is the one to blame. His use of questioning, personal appeals, imagery, direct tone and colorful diction results in a compelling case that supports his accusations of manipulation by the fast food industry. Zinczenko asks questions to support his arguments and guide the reader to what he believes to be actually true. He starts off the essay using an analogy: is the case of children who sued McDonald s for their obesity the same as the case of middle aged men suing Porsche for their speeding tickets? (Paragraph 1). He points out the fallacy of the men suing someone else for something that was their own fault (such as receiving a speeding ticket), but brings attention to children who shouldn t be blamed for what society claims is their responsibility. The next question he asks relates to what fast food restaurants would argue/rebuttal with; shouldn t we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the person asks what went wrong do not verbally attack them. This could lead to many situations that could make the break up more difficult, including an unwanted fight. Eveline Hill sits at a window in her home and reminisce the times when she as a child played with other children in a field which now has been developed with new homes As Eveline was trying to make a major decision whether or not to move to Buenos Ayres (escape) with Frank. She holds two letters, one to her father, one to her brother Harry. She begins to favor the sunnier memories of her old family life, when her mother was alive and her brother was living at home. She thought back of the moment she promised her mom that she will put all her dedication in maintaining this home. And she reasons that her life at home and doing all of those chores are hard, but perhaps not in the worst position her father isn t always mean, after all. This memory is also important for another reason as it suggests that a bond (or connection) still remains between Eveline, her siblings and her father. Despite how her father treats her, Eveline still feels connected to him. This pushes her to escape from the fate and embark on a new phase of life. Eveline s action, of dusting every week for so many years is significant as it suggests repetition, doing the same thing, which in turn would suggest a paralysis within Eveline. It is also significant that the dust remains. This suggests that no matter how much Eveline does while at home nothing will change. Appears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Improving Feeding Outcomes in the NICU: Establishing an Infant Driven Feeding Pathway Laura Pabich BSN, RN The University of Iowa College of Nursing Improving Feeding Outcomes in the NICU: Establishing an Infant Driven Feeding Pathway The most common reason preterm infants face prolonged hospitalization in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a delay in acquiring full oral feedings (Shaker, 2013). The purpose of this project is to improve feeding outcomes for preterm infants at Blank Children s Hospital s (BCH) NICU in Des Moines, Iowa. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feeding difficulties often persist past NICU discharge with an incidence ranging from 19 to 80 percent (Shaker, 2013; Sundseth, 2013). The average daily cost for NICU care often exceeds $3,500 per infant and a delay in establishing full oral feedings further increases the cost of care (Murakas, 2008). Delayed discharge also places infants at risk for hospital related morbidity, leads to prolonged maternal child separation and increases parental stress (Gennattasio, Perri, Baranek, Rohan, 2015). Preterm infants face a number of challenges in attaining full oral feedings including physiologic instability, neurologic immaturity and behavioral state disorganization (Gennattasio, Perri, Baranek, Rohan, 2015). The time in which preterm infants are learning to feed is characterized by rapid motor and neurodevelopment in which every feeding experience plays a role (Shaker, 2013). Physiologic stress during feeding may encourage sensory motor pathways in the brain, leading to maladaptive feeding behaviors, learned feeding refusals and long term feeding aversions (Shaker, 2013). Traditional, volume driven feeding practices fail to account for an infant s hunger cues, the physiologic stress caused by the challenge of oral feeding and the quality of an individual feeding (Newland, Weems L Huillier, Petrey, 2013). The study noted that men have a higher mortality rate from heart disease than do women (Crimmins et al., 2008). This article also notes that 40 50 percent of postmenopausal women will develop heart disease (Crimmins et al., 2008). Crimmins and colleges noted men develop heart disease 5 to 10 years earlier in life than do women ( 2008). Evidence suggests that women who are hospitalized for cardiovascular issues are less likely to receive certain types of drugs and diagnostic and treatment procedures (Crimmins et al., 2008). Low socio economic status and poor educational levels also have a marked effect on men and women s knowledge of cardiovascular disease and the timing of when they seek treatment (Hemingway, 2007). Crimmins and colleges in their study results noted, on average, the onset for heart disease in men is around 50 to 70 years of age and 73 years of age for women (Crimmins et al., 2008). Sacrifice Research Paper Villette Jones Mrs. Melissa Rigney English 101 Friday, August 14, 2015 Sacrifices Hello, my name is Villette Jones and I am here to give my thoughts, definition, and analysis on Sacrifice. Sacrifice has many different meaning and even more synonyms to go along with it, a few words or phrases that catch my immediate attention when thinking of Sacrifice are ( Cede, Immolate, Endure, and Part With ). However when I asked associates and my peers majority of them thought of Forfeit. When I take time to really think, in my own opinion Sacrifice is Forfeit, Suffering, and Offering. These are very significant second hand words to my original word (Sacrifice), and as you read along I will show you exactly what I mean by it. The meaning I get from the word Forfeit is Loses, a Penalty, and being deprived of something. Forfeit is such a major second hand word to Sacrifice and the reason forfeiting is so major, is because majority of the time you re losing something of significant value. A great story of someone having to forfeit something for a greater cause is Everett Alvarez Jr. Alvarez Jr is a former U.S Navy Commander who endured one of the longest periods as a prisoner of war (P.O.W) in American military history. • 55. The Effect Of Angular Momentum On Classical Mechanics INTRODUCTION We know the importance of Angular Momentum in Classical Mechanics; the total angular momentum of an isolated physical system is a constant of the motion. For example, if a point particle P, of mass m, is moving in a central potential (one which depends only on the distance between P and a fixed point O), the force to which P is subjected is always directed towards O. Its moment with respect to O is consequently zero, and the angular momentum theorem implies that derivative of L (Angular momentum of P with respect to O) with respect to time is zero. This fact has important consequences: the motion of the particle P is limited to a fixed plane (the plane passing through O and perpendicular to the angular momentum L); moreover, this motion obeys the law of constant areal velocity (Kepler s Second Law). All these properties have their equivalents in Quantum Mechanics. With the angular momentum L of a classical system is associated with an observable L, actually a set of three observables, Lx, Ly, and Lz, which correspond to the three components of L in a Cartesian Frame. These three observables commute with the Hamiltonian H for a particle in the central potential V(r). This property simplifies the determination and classification of eigenstates of H. Quantization of Angular Momentum: the component, along a fixed axis, of the intrinsic angular momenta are quantized, which enables us to understand atomic magnetism, the Zeeman Effect, etc. We shall denote by ...
