The Dubble Campaign:
Write an evaluation of how effective you think the Dubble campaign has been so far and how your
advertising has aimed to reach Dubble s target audience effectively.
In October 2000, Comic Relief and The Day Chocolate Company teamed up with Kuapa Kokoo, a
co operative of 35,000 Ghanaian cocoa farmers, to launch Dubble, a unique chocolate bar aimed at
10 16 year olds.
In January 2001, Dubble was introduced to the public through a
chocolate challenge competition launched by Comic Relief on the Live and kicking show. The

The Day Chocolate Company carried out research on the target audience.
They found out that the 10 16 age range was a tribal and friendship orientated age group, which
knew global issues, trusted the ideas behind comic relief and understood the concept of fairness,
but were unfamiliar with Fair Trading. They chose chocolate based on brand appeal and taste.
Therefore, by exploiting links with comic relief and
Fair Trade the target audience would see Dubble as a popular and trusted product which aimed to
increase fairness in the world.
From my market research, I wanted to find out how popular the product was, and whether any
improvements could be introduced. I needed to ascertain key forms of entertainment used by 10
16 year olds so that the selling and advertising of Dubble could be more focussed. I needed to
find out the proportion of average pocket money spent on chocolates, so that Dubble could be
priced accordingly, and to see if people had heard about fair trading and if not, as to how to best
convey the Fair Trade message. Most teenagers shopped at Safeway s, visited the cinema often,
used a varied range of media and were fairly familiar with the new product. Most spent about a ВЈ1
/week on chocolate. My findings also demonstrated that Dubble is best advertised on T.V, as this
was the main form of media used which, influenced teenagers when it came to buying products.
One of the T.V adverts I created was based on the nursery

Russia, India, China, Mexico, and South Korea are commonly referred to as the Big Six ( B6 ) by
global management consulting firm Accenture, as they are the leading developing economies.
Earlier, owing to their low cost structures, the developing economies served as mere outsourcing
locations for the MultiNational Companies (MNCs) of the West. However, the changing global
economic scenario had brought down trade and investment barriers and integrated global supply
chains, thereby paving the way for the development of emerging markets. Some of the developing
countries were witnessing rapid growth and thus the nomenclature Rapidly Developing Economies
(RDEs) was assigned to them. The term Rapidly Developing Economies was used to denote
emerging markets such as China, India, Mexico, Brazil,
Russia, South Africa, Poland, Indonesia, Turkey, and South Korea.
Moreover, the importance of the emerging markets to the global economy came into sharp focus as
the world came out of the global economic recession. Experts said that the importance of emerging
economies to world trade had been steadily increasing. Between
1990 and 20 I0, the annual growth rate of exports and imports from emerging and developing
economies averaged around 7.5% compared to the figure of around 5% for developed economies.4
It was reported that the share of the RDEs in global trade was growing significantly. Notably,

Analysis Of The Poem Porphyria s Lover By Alfred Lord...
Somebody s Instead of Somebody
Women were to be seen, but not heard. Women were expected to become wives and use their
wombs to create a family. Women were expected to obey their husbands and do as they were
told. A women s role in Victorian society was to raise the children and make sure the household
was kept clean. Women were obligated to fulfill these societal values because they lived in a world
where the men dominated the social hierarchy, and women were not free to express nor be
themselves. In the poem, Mariana , written by Alfred Lord Tennyson, a womannamed Mariana is
waiting all night for a man to come proclaim his love for her. Mariana desperately needs this man
to come to her rescue, so she can fulfill her purpose in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Writers such as Tennyson and Browning explored the societal expectations placed on Victorian
women in their poems by describing them as powerless and weak woman who, in one way or
another, need a man. Having to rely on a man for survival was normal for Victorian woman.
Women understood that their destiny was to follow in the traditions of finding a husband and
keeping him happy and never having an opinion on anything. It is as if the woman was
purposely meant to be silenced and left to just be a small detail in terms of the big picture just to
ensure the guarantee of the official male power, a power that, deeming women unprincipled and
emotional, advocated confining them to the domestic sphere where their true self could be
easily neutralized (Avarvarei 536). Men created the idea of women being these fragile human
beings who aren t smart enough to make their own decisions and needing a man to make them
happy. Men needed to convince themselves that women were not capable of caring for
themselves nor making their own decisions because men need to feel needed. A man s ego is not
satisfied unless a damsel in distress needs him to save her and become this huge hero that she will
forever have to repay for essentially saving her life. Tennyson sets the tone of Mariana by
describing the setting in a way that makes it sound ugly, sad and

Marijuana, as a legitimate medication has for some time been a front running issue in the Medical
Field here in the United States. With many states legalizing medicinal marijuana, and with even a
few having legalized recreational marijuana consumption, the subject has become very popular over
the last few years. Marijuana research, in the medicinal sense, has provided us with a flood of
information on the benefits of medical applications, but also indicates certain risks that come with
consumption. While many people support medicinal use of marijuana, there are still many
unanswered questions about the validity of its effectiveness. There is no denying that medical

The Battle of Verdun Essay
The battle of Verdun was one of the bloodies battles in WW1, in fact it was one of the bloodiest
battles in world history up to that point. It was also the longest battle of WW1 lasting at around 10
months (In class notes). The battle was kicked off by letter sent the the Kaiser by German Chief of
Staff Falkenhayn (Intro to the documents at the top of the page). He states that the key to winning
the war did not rely on the Eastern Front against Russia, but rather on the Western front (First
paragraph in The battle of Verdun, 1916). He claimed that defeating France would incline Britain to
seek terms with Germany (End of first paragraph).
The battle lasted from February 21st, to December 18, 1916 (In class notes).

Advantages Of Economic Profit
1.0INTRODUCTION
In finance, the proposed objective of the firm is the maximisation of economic profit. This
maximising objective is expressed in terms of the market value of the firm s shares. These notions
should not be confused with accounting profit which usually attempts to match periodic revenues
and expenses as well as other concepts. As a result, accounting profit is somewhat arbitrary and fails
to take account of all factors which affect shareholders wealth.
The discussion on the forms of corporate organisations revealed that, there are a number of
advantages that investors and owners derive. What business firms are seeking to achieve and
therefore what investment and financing decisions should seek to promote is a question central to
business finance and one which has attracted considerable discussion as the subject has developed

However, maximization of profit is far too broad a definition of what is likely to be beneficial to
shareholders.
2.1Why is profit maximisation not the best operational goal?
Emery and Finnerty (1997) posit three important reasons why profit maximization is not the best
operational goal. First, profit maximization is vague. Profit has many different definitions. Do we
mean accounting profits (based on book values) or economic profit (based on market value and
beyond a fair return)?
Secondly, profit maximization ignores differences in when we get the money. Profit maximization
does not distinguish between getting a cedi today and getting a cedi in the future, such as a year
from today.
Third, profit maximization ignores risk differences between alternatives. When given a choice
between two alternatives that have the same return but different risk, most people choose the less
risky one. This makes the less risky alternative more valuable. Profit maximisation ignores such
differences in

Heroin Problem
Heroins cheap and widely available status has spread to many cities throughout the United States;
these users are buying and shooting up right away, often in public. Many police officers find users
unconscious or dead in cars, restaurants, in parks, hospitals, and libraries. Not only does this add to
visibility of the drug to public eye, but leaving behind dirty needles in these public locations lead to
a health hazard. The heroinepidemic needs to be stopped immediately by understanding where the
problem starts, the effects of the drug, and educating the public about treatment, addiction, and the
problems the addiction causes on a personal level. Keeping heroin addiction under control can lead
to less overdoses and a more positive future for the youth of this county.
Most of the time, heroin addicts are addicted to another form of prescription opioid, which makes
this the root of the problem. When these people cannot get ahold of their drug of choice, many turn

Affermative Action
By: Elissa Thomas
E mail: elissa@usais.net
Affirmative Action Affirmative Action efforts were started in 1964 to end the long history of
overlooking qualified people of color and women from higher education. Affirmative Action sets
standards for a business or office of admissions, so that a white man does not have the upper hand
over an equally or greater educated minority. The initial way the government tried to justify
Affirmative Action was to develop a human resource approach: first identifying the problem, which
is racism then establishing the solution (Phillips 67). The intent of Affirmative Action helps cut
down discrimination in the work place and in schools, despite the fact that some believe that

Some might believe that this could be just a random occurrence, but the same results showed in
the University of Texas Law School s enrollment, three blacks this fall to last years fifty nine

for blacks and other minorities in Texas and California s prominent universities. Therefore,
proving that without Affirmative Action, any minority will not have a fair chance in today s
society. Professor Lino Graglia, a critic of Affirmative Action points out The whole reason you
have racial preferences is that the racially preferred do not meet the standards applied to others,
if you require that they meet the standards, then they don t get in. This might be true in some
maybe all cases, but in this very true rebuttal to Graglia s statement Rodney Ellis, Texas state
senator, graduate of the University Law School in 1976 says I clearly got in through an
Affirmative Action program, and I don t apologize for it... I m proud of it. It got me in, but it

needed a fighter jet to replace the highly popular P 51 Mustang. North American Aviation
Corporation was granted the contract to build these medium range, single seat, high altitude,
multi purpose fighter jet/bombers. There were over 6,000 of the jets produced between the two
facilities in Los Angeles, California and Columbus, Ohio. This plane was the first United States

As the technology advanced in China and North Korea the MiG 15 came in to play and was far
more superior than the piston engine aircraft the United States and UN forces were flying. One
of the most significant things about the MiG 15 is that with its superiority over the P 51
Mustang the United States Air Force had to keep all of the B 29 Superfortress grounded due to
the lack of security. The B 29 Superfortress had been a major game changer in World War II. The
B 29 was designed for the high altitude strategic bomber role. One of the B 29 s final roles
during World War II was carrying out the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
After the F 86 Sabre was introduced in Korea, they patrolled the area just south of the Yalu, the
so called Mig Alley, in long figure eights, always turning towards the north to keep from being
surprised. The F 86 Sabre s and the MiG s were evenly matched. Both had 6,000 pound thrust jet
engines, and could go supersonic in a dive. The MiG was smaller, and it could climb higher and
faster. The Sabre was faster in level flight and in a dive, had a greater range, and could turn
tighter in a fast dive. The Sabre carried six 50 caliber machine guns, while the MiG relied on a
single 37 mm and two 23 mm cannon. (Sherman, Acepilots, 2011) With the facts that were out

The Evolution Of Allergies On Homo Sapiens

The evolution of allergies in Homo sapiens
As of 2008, approximately 25% of people in the developed world suffer from allergic disorders
(Galli, Tsai, Piliponsky, 2008). These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay
fever, asthma, eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as
allergic disorders. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is
even higher than in the general population with 40 50% of children susceptible to one or more type
of allergy (Pawankar et al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the
developed world for over 50 years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can
often take years to find a completely effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can
severely disrupt everyday life. With so many suffering from allergies it is no surprise that this area
of health has been thoroughly studied. Interestingly enough though, while we do know what
happens in the human body during an allergy attack there is still debate as to why we as humans
evolved allergic disorders in the first place.
On a biological level, when an allergen enters your system it triggers a Type 2 immune response
(Pulendran, Artis, 2012). Th2 cells and IgE antibodies control this type of immune response as
opposed to the Th1 and IgM, IgA and IgG used a Type 1 immune response (Palm, Rosenstein,

self worth; person who doesn t have a strong self image may feel that he or she is not getting the

Despite its name, the NBPP s founding was independent; it is not an official successor organization
to the Black Panther Party. Members of the original Black Panther Party have insisted that this
party is illegitimate and have vociferously objected that there is no new Black Panther Party.
Critics characterize what they see as the NBPP s actively destructive extremism by pointing to
examples such as Muhammad s Million Youth March , a youth equivalent of the Million Man

speakers calling for the extermination of whites in South Africa. The rally ended in scuffles with
the NYPD as Muhammad urged the crowd to attack those officers who had attempted to

Ocho There cannot be a discussion about borders without also discussing the metaphors that are
linked to them. When speaking about the border people know the physical borderlines between
countries, but to understand borders one must look pass the physical boundaries. As a society we
must be and make ourselves more aware of the cultural identity, language, and community
surrounding the Latino American population. During the Mexican American War the border
moved, but the people didn t. History has shown us that no matter how thick the border might be
Latino Americans have a strong connection to their culture and roots; instead of assimilating,
Mexicans live between two worlds. The film, Ballad of Gregorio Cortez gave us a perspective of
two cultures; Two cultures the Anglo and the Mexican lived side by side in state of tension and
fear . Cortez is running for his life as he heads north, while the Anglo believe that because of his
Mexican ethnicity, he would travel south to Mexico. Throughout the film there were cultural
tensions and misunderstandings; language plays an important part of someone s identity, and for
many Latino Americans Spanish is their first language. The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez also shows
us that language plays an important role, and can cause confusion between two different groups.

Third Party
Third party has been widely used in the Islamic community in Malaysia to handle family matters
especially in marital dispute. They have played their role especially in resolving conflict
including civil suit in Syariah Court (Osman, 1999). Previous research showed that third party
has played it roles to resolve conflict among Malays. Some of the examples of the third party
are, Imam or religious leader, Ketua Kampung (Village Head) and the Penghulu (Village Chief)
(Syed Hussin, 1977, and Yaacob, 1991). These peoples became the advisor in the Malay tradition
to help in resolving conflict. Most of the time they became the third party that is referred to, for
any problem or occasion in the village. In the extended family, each family was not only depending
on their close family, thus all of them were also considered as family (Yaacob, 1991). The
implementation of Syariah Enactment as well as Islamic Family Law since 1880 then amended in
1885 did not isolate the role of those parties in any family matters (Ahmad Ibrahim, 1987 and
Osman, 1999). Only after the implementation of Islamic Administration Enactment, the role of third
party had shifted from those mentioned earlier to the Religious Officer appointed by the
government.

This same idea can be applied to the rap artists who get paid by the sponsors that endorse them.
These artists are making millions off these companies who are mainly there to use the artist s

Disney s Strengths Of Disney
Disney Studio s main focus is on idea generation and storytelling through film and animation. In
order to be successful in its mission, Disney needs to be a strong, financially stable company, and
judging by its recent blockbuster hits, it is obvious Disney is achieving that mission. Disney s
strengths lie most notably in its ability to appeal to different crowds through a variety of studios, its
strong, internationally recognized brand, its reputation for doing good and treating others well, and
having the monetary funds to attract and keep the best talent. Despite its many strengths, Disney
still encounters problems; it ammasses high sunk costs through expensive movie ventures and does
not make a lot of that money back; Disney films bring in a very small percentage of Disney s
overall income when compared to its theme parks and attractions, television networks, and other
holdings. Disney Studios may just be one department of an international conglomerate, but it sets
the tone for the rest of the corporation.
One of Disney s greatest strengths lies in its diversification. The Walt DisneyCompany is in and of
itself a very diverse organization, with holdings in film production, amusement parks, cruises,
hotels, performances, and toy manufacturing. However, even within its film production, Disney is
incredibly diverse. What started out as a singular entity, Disney Bros. Cartoon Studio, has grown
into a massive conglomerate of animation studios, entertainment universes like

Compare And Contrast Benign And Malignant Tumors
Tumors are one of the most feared diseases of our time. Many people upon hearing the word tumor
immediately resonate to the conclusion of it being cancer, which is not necessarily true. Tumors
fall into to two main types, benign and malignant. Although they are considerably different in tissue
invasion, their nature that makes them distinct and symptoms, they are also quite similar in the
way they recur in the same location, growth size and their health risks.
The first difference in malignant and benign tumors is how they invade cell tissue. Malignant
tumors in general, have a tendency to penetrate tissues, whereas benign tumors don t though they
can add pressure to organs resulting in organ damage1. A simplified... Show more content on

The first similarity is that just like malignant tumors, benign tumors can also be quite large. A
common mistake patients often make is confuse benign tumors with malignant tumors because of
the size. Although malignant tumors are usually larger than benign tumors, that alone does not
make the difference. In fact, a benign tumors weighing over a hundred pounds have been removed.
An example of a large benign tumor is a 32 year old man from Vietnam who survived a 12 hour
operation in which a massive 198 pound benign tumor from his right leg was removed at France
Vietnam Hospital (FV) on January 5, 2012.2 The second similarity is that both malignant and
benign tumors recur locally, to be more specific, the location where the recurrence of the tumor
most likely happens. To elaborate further, both benign and malignant tumors have the ability to
reappear near or in the same area where the previous tumor was located. For instance, recurrent
breast tumors are tumors that have come back in the same breast or chest wall after the treatment
for a period of time when the tumor couldn t be detected.3 The third and final similarity is the
danger both malignant and benign tumors pose to the health of the patient. Similar

Dehumanization Of Women In The Handmaids Tale
To dehumanize someone is to strip them of everything that makes them human, all their good
qualities, all their basic rights, everything that can label them an individual. Similarly, in
Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the Republic of Gilead are degraded in
such a way that they are stripped of their previous selves. Women in Gilead are outfitted by their
functions, forced to have sex and they, especially handmaids, are used as tools. In The Handmaid
s Tale, Atwood utilizes motifs to further dehumanize the women of Gilead. To begin, the
Republic of Gilead outfits women based on their function to strip them of their individuality. The
process starts by colour coding women into easily identifiable class groups. This is seen when
Offred makes her way to town, narrating the scene and drawing attention to the other women by
saying, There are other women with baskets, some in red, some in the dull green of the Marthas
(Atwood 27). Women in Gilead have been colour coded to be easily identifiable and known under
their respective colours, completely erasing their identities. Furthermore, the colours they wear
identify their sole purposes to society. When Offred first introduces Econowives she notes that
...the striped dresses, red and blue and green... Econowives, they re called. These women are not
divided into functions. They have to do everything... (Atwood 27). The Econowives are the wives
or the poorer men, wearing the medley of all three colours to

Vladek Maus Changes
The character Vladek in Art Spiegelman s Maus greatly changed throughout the book. Events due
to the Holocaust shaped Vladek into the person he is at the end of the book. The Holocaust caused
Vladek to become extremely frugal, to have an obsession with tidiness, and to not be able to trust
anyone.
Vladek became extremely frugal from living through the Holocaust. In the beginning he was poor
and couldn t buy extravagant things. The event that led him to become so frugal was when Art
s store was robbed. All of Vladek s possessions were taken from him. He was scarred from that
situation because his family had to starve between meals. They had to live off of rations and
food coupons and Vladek could not help his family. His family suffering like that had a serious
effect on Vladek. It shows how frugal Vladek is when Mala makes a lot of comments about how
Vladek has a lot of money saved up but never spends any of it, like not buying her a comb. The
author also shows how frugal Vladek is when he refuses to spend money on necessary items.
When he is an older man he becomes pretty wealthy but due to the Holocaust his mind is greatly
impacted by it leaving him in the mindset of being frugal. Another example of Vladek s frugality is
when Vladek tries to return half eaten boxes of cereal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Elizabethan Era s Effect on Shakespeare s Works
The Elizabethan Era s Effect on Shakespeare s Works
If every playwright in Shakespeare s time aspired, as he did, to paint a portrait of an age in their
works, his would have been the Mona Lisa, leaving the most lasting impression on generations to
come and at the same time, one of the world s most baffling mysteries. Surely it is no coincidence
that the world s most celebrated dramatist would ve lived during the time when one of the world s
most powerful rulers in history reigned. Or was it?
How much influence from the Elizabethan era was infused into Shakespeare s plays? Especially
since it was a time of religious reformation and fluctuating political relations, in which England was
very much in the thick of. The events and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An English student from Calvin College writes that, Several themes that are only Catholic also
can be incurred throughout his works. For example, Shakespeare, at times, used the word holy in
the sacramental sense that Catholics used it. Characters in his plays showed devotion to various
saints. They also blessed themselves with the sign of the cross. Shakespeare incorporated
references to Purgatory into some of his plots... [His] upbringing certainly came into play in his
familiarity of these subject. (Brydon). It is true that Shakespeare did have all of those references
and signs of Catholicism in his plays, it should also be remembered that what a playwright instills
in his characters does not necessarily reflect what he himself believes.
In any case, because the values and beliefs of the Protestant and Catholic religions were not
extremely different, it would have been easy for Shakespeare to cater to both without showing any
specific preference towards one or the other. Theologically speaking, they do have different
doctrines and leaders, but in the context of Shakespeare s plays, both religions have a God, Bible,
and other foundational values. His play, Measure for Measure, is based on the themes of morals and
justice. He sets his characters into contemplating some tough ethical issues, which could be applied
to both Protestantism and Catholicism.

Christian Persecution From Early Civilizations
Persecution is a serious issue that throughout history has shown to be misinterpreted and
sometimes even taken out of context. Defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the act or
practice of persecuting those who differ in origin, religion or social outlook/ the condition of being
persecuted, harassed or annoyed. Other sources define it as hostility and even ill treatment towards
these groups. My goal with this paper is to focus specifically on Christian persecution from early
civilizations (more specifically within the Roman Empire) and then fast forwarding to persecution
within the world today. For modern persecution I ll be focusing on the RSS () which is ..... in
India. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and
of God rests on you. (1 Peter 4:14)
When people often reflect back on persecution in the early church, the first place that the mind
goes is to the region that the early church started spreading through to begin with. The Roman
Empire, where we see many of our first missionaries emerge during Christ s life and after his
death. For persecution to happen there must be a green light or go ahead from someone whom
holds authority, even if they personally are indifferent about the issue they must be okay with
others persecuting for it to actually take place. Throughout the history of the Roman Empire there
were several rulers that became labeled as persecutors (whether they were the ones killing with their

Minimum Wage Pros And Cons Essay
Cons of the minimum wage: As discussed earlier, the minimum wage would ultimately increase
unemployment levels due to the labour getting costlier. This would not only threaten the current
workers, but would also affect the unemployed people looking for jobs. Securing a job would be
more challenging as employers would want to hire the best possible candidates who they deem
worthy of the minimum wage.
10 Another disadvantage of having a minimum wage is the Deadweight loss from Minimum Wage
. Plenty of people who work in the unorganised sector, have those jobs because they are willing to
work for less. They provide cheap labour and thus are affordable to hire in those industries.
However, with minimum wage, a business would prefer having ... Show more content on

Achievements Of The Mughal Empire
As the Mughal Empire embarks the start to the highest points of tradition and culture in India, this
age began with the creation of India s greatest Empires The Mughals. The Mughal rulers brought
India to its pinnacle of political power, and cultural success (Spielvogel 530). To acknowledge
some of the greatest rulers of the Mughal EmpireBabur, Akbar, and Aurangzeb; these rulers created
some of the greatest achievements in India, and some of the greatest controversies as well.
The founder of the Mughal Empire was Babur, who had an esteemed background, in regards to
his family. Babur s father was an Asian conqueror of Tamerlane, and Babur inherited a part of
the empire. At his youth, Babur led a group of soldiers who conquered Kabul in 1504. With
Babur s past working an an authoritative figure for the Tamerlane s Empire, helped him to seize
Delhi, and other parts of North India, until his death in 1530 (Spielvogel 530). However, it was
not his revere background that made Babur a powerful model during this time, it was Babur s
resilience and dominance that led India into one of it s highest peaks. With only twelve thousand
troops against a significantly large army, Babur captured Delhi, and established his rule there
(Spielvogel 531). With Babur s explicit intelligence, and prowess, Babur established himself to be
one of the greatest rulers in India, and led India into a time of achievement and success.

Dangers In Norman Podhoretz s Looking Back AtCatch 22
However, the possible dangers are not limited to ones pertaining to physical injury. An example
of this is Yossarian s conversation with an italian family who is told that Yossarian is their dying
son, wincing and feel[ing] sick at his barefaced lie (Heller 184 185). This scenario serves as a
broad implication of moral loss and danger faced by soldiers. Their lives affect those around them
and their families, and their decisions can also weigh on their conscience. They also rely on each
other, and occasionally may form emotional ties amid all of the superficial relationships, putting a
part of their soul at risk. Reinforcing this assertion that all these conflicts are legitimate fears,
Norman Podhoretz in his article Looking Back at Catch 22agrees that Yossarians paranoia... [is] not
a disease but a sensible response to real dangers (Podhoretz 5). Podhoretz s assertion that Yossarian
s paranoia, while humorous in its absurdity, is legitimate illustrates the danger inherent in the
common facets of everyday life, establishing the tumultuous atmosphere in the novel. After this,
Heller makes the conflict between Yossarian much more relatable to the reader by adding in
personal enemies and personal struggles to show the individual applicability of the chaotic uncaring
nature of life. The first enemy of Yossarian embodied in an individual person is Colonel Cathcart.

Operation Iraqi Freedom And Operational Design
In order to develop effective solutions for complex military problems, the Joint Community within
the US Military adopted the methodology of Operational Design in Joint Doctrine. This
methodology addresses the concept of complex, ill structured or wicked problems. In fact,
Lessons Learned as a result of operations conducted over the last 15 years played an instrumental
role in the continued development of this doctrine. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) illustrates a
perfect case study for evaluation utilizing this methodology. Therefore, the intent of this paper is to
evaluate US Military campaign planning for OIF by using operational design as the framework for
this analysis. First, this paper looks at how planners and commanders interpreted pre invasion
civilian policy guidance, their understanding of the current operational environment, and how these
commanders defined the problem. Next, it identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the initial
approach. After discussing this initial approach, this paper examines how commanders assessed
the campaign and refined the approach to include how the reframing occurred. Lastly, it provides
examples of how these lessons learned shaped current joint planning policy and doctrine. Based on
initial guidance received from Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Donald Rumsfeld in November
2001, CENTCOM Commander, GEN Tommy Franks and his team of planners perceived that the
original contingency plan developed in the event of war with Iraq

The Cons of the Standard Aptitude Test
You are sitting in the testing room, anxiety rushing down your body. The smell of the freshly
printed scantrons consumes your nose. The fears of forgetting the math formulas, running out of
time, and not knowing the answer distract you from focusing on the test. The SAT, in other words,
the scholastic aptitude test, also known as the test that destroys the lives of millions of high school
students, is about to take place and determine your intelligence in the perspective of the various
colleges you are about to apply to. The SATis a collection of multiple choice sections that unreliably
measure a student performance through critical reading, math, and writing sections, asking
questions intended to trick the test taker and convince them into picking the wrong answer choice.
A majority of colleges and universities require students to take the SAT in addition to submitting
their transcripts and college applications, however they have a standard as to what score a student
must receive in order to be accepted. Thousands of students have their dreams crushed and are
rejected from their ideal school because of the inability to score high on the test out of 2400.
Students with limitless amounts of talent never get the opportunity to nurture their unique skills
because the schools focus more on the student s SAT score, instead of their overall strengths and
expertise. SAT scores should not have a prominent role in college acceptance in that the test is

Reflection Paper On Court Hearing
This reflection paper is over my fifth week at my practicum site. This week I was in the office on
Monday and Tuesday. This week I was able to attend a court hearing and I wrote up my visitation
log from the visit that happened last week.
There are a lot of things that has to happen when the Department of Children and Family Services

they have to have court within 2 days. The court date is considered the first court hearing. The
perpetrator is encouraged to come and they have been appointed and attorney. The attorney will be
there to represent their client at this first initial court hearing.
The first court hearing consists of many different things. The first thing that happen is the
investigator is called to the stand and asked questions about what happened during the investigation
that were significant enough to take PC. This is a precaution step to make sure the kids were
removed for a legitimate reason. At this point the judge can sign off on the order of PC or return the
kids home to the perpetrator. The investigator explained this process to me prior to going into the
courtroom and she said the judge never sends the kids back home. The perpetrator can be called to
the stand but most of the time they are not. The next thing that is put in place is a permanency
order for the child. The permanency order is put in place for temporary housing. The last thing that

Shoulder impingement syndrome is a progressively worsening condition in many individuals. The
use of a chiropractic adjustment or myofascial dry needling as forms of treatment are both yet to
be differentiated as to which is more beneficial (Fitness Pain Free. 2016).
The aim of this study is to research the effect of a chiropractic adjustment on the shoulder and the
cervical spine, and compare to dry needling of the shoulder and cervical musculature.
The research study will include three separate groups that will receive chiropractic adjustments, dry
needling or a combination of the two treatments. The results will then be evaluated and an outcome
will be based on these results as to which treatment is more effective.

Robert Merton s Theory Of The Strain Theory
Strain Theory Throughout history many sociologist and criminologist have developed theories
to explain crimes in society. Robert Merton was an American sociologist. He believed societies
like the United States create deviant citizens because they do not give them the tools to create
The American Dream . There are various things that can turn a citizen deviant such as the
inability to achieve valued goals, the presence of negative stimuli, and the removal of positive
stimuli. A deviant citizen is not always a criminal, deviant citizens are simply defined as
someone who goes out of societies norm. The behavior of citizens lead Merton to developed the
Strain Theory. This theory explains how the strains of society effect and generate criminal
behavior in order to achieve the American Dream. The American Dream is a social construct that
has been created through media to promote an acceptable living status. The social status is
constantly changing, but overall, it s a reflection of upper middle class and possessing higher
education. Countries like the United States have such a great emphasis on wealth, but don t
provide the things needed to achieve it. For example, if you attend public schools in a under
privileged neighborhood you may not have the funds or opportunity to go to college. Not having a
certain level of education can prevent you from jobs which has a ripple effect on your

A year after the English outlawed slavery, Sierra Leone became a British crown colony.
New courts were established, new codes and new laws were introduced, chiefs were confirmed or
deposed and new ones appointed, direct and indirect taxation was introduced, and forced labour was
demanded for the construction of roads and railways. All these measures naturally generated
various reaction (Cohen and Boahen 68).
In 1899, while still under colonialization, the Temne and Mende people of Sierra Leone led a
rebellion, the Hut Tax Rebellion, in protest to taxes imposed by the British because, Sierra
Leoneans did not passively accept such manipulations. ( World Culture ) Before the Portuguese
arrived in Ghana in the fifteenth century, kingdoms in that region had already developed among
various Akan speaking and neighboring groups and were in the process of expanding their wealth,

The Theory Of Child Rearing
1. Dr. John Watson, in his advocation in favor of nurture stated essentially, as we had discussed
in some of our class sessions, that his approach to child rearing would have a direct impact on
outcomes. It could be argued that child rearing is the one thing that could counter cultural
influences as being more impactful. We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east
where members work in a collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the
individualist societies similar to the western cultures where individual achievement for self is
considered to be of more value. Which I believe contributes more to selfishness and an over
emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me back to the behavior modification class I had as
an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to behave in different social settings that may be
presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave differently in a social settings such as,
school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location may be acceptable but not another
location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked in the privacy of your own
home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down upon what they may
perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other cultures may be
given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying. Those from
these collectivist societies that travel to the west cannot

The Importance Of Team Building A Team Based Environment...
INTRODUCTION
Team building can be collectively termed for various types of activities used to enhance social
relations and define roles within teams, which often involves collaborative tasks. It is very much
distinct from team training, which is designed to improve efficiency, rather than interpersonal
relations.
Many team building exercises are aimed to expose and address the interpersonal problems within
the group.[1]
These activities are intended to improve performance in a team based environment.[2] The formal
definition of team building includes:
aligning around the goals
building effective working relationships among teammates
reducing team members role ambiguity
finding solutions to team problems collectively
For group development activities in organizations team building is widely used.
Recent meta analyses show that team development activities, including team building and team
training, improve both team s objective performance as well as team s subjective supervisory
ratings.[1]
FOUR APPROACHES
Salas and his team have described four approaches to team building ie..:[3][4]
1.Setting Goal
This emphasizes on the importance of clear objectives of individual and team goals. Team members
now become involved in action planning to identify ways to define success and failure and achieve
goals. This is intended to strengthen motivation and encourage a sense of ownership. By identifying
specific outcomes and tests of incremental success, the teams can

I Am Insane-Personal Narrative
I trembled with an overwhelming feeling of terror regarding the impossibility of the previous
day s events. I could not no matter how hard I tried wrap my head around them. Had they been
ghosts? Had the died that day three years ago, and now have been haunting the house, going
about their past lives? Or maybe I didn t really see them, Maybe they weren t really there. Maybe
I m insane. Though, of course I suppose that would also have to qualify Vera and Mrs. Sappleton
for insanity as well. After all, they saw them, too. I started thinking of any scientifically sound
Explanation for what had happened to cloak the supernatural one that had arisen first in my mind.
However, I was snapped out of my thoughts by the eminently distressing sound of the ringing
telephone. I dubiously answered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nuttel, I didn t think you d come back after yesterday. It s scary, really. They return on the
anniversary of their disappearance every year.
Yes, that s actually why i came back. You see, I wasn t always this nervous. It all began after my
wife disappeared about six years ago. We looked for her everywhere, but she was never found. It
took me years to accept the fact that she is gone. Though, sometimes I can still hear her voice. It
sings, she loved singing. It sings the same song over and over again and i can never remember
the name of it. Once or twice in the past i have even seen her. She dances around the house. It is
truly terrifying, but I know that it was always all in my head. You see, the events of yesterday
reminded me of her, I began telling my own tale.
Vera s face transformed into one full of guilt, Oh. I m so sorry about your wife, Mr. Nuttel. I lied
about those things yesterday, I didn t know about your wife. I must have caused you so much pain,
remembering your tragedy. I hope you can forgive me, I was only trying to have a little fun.
It s quite alright, but maybe now you will think twice before telling another tall

The Minoan Civilization On The Mediterranean Island Of...
The Minoan Civilization began on the Mediterranean island of Crete. It was first excavated by Sir
Arthur Evans. The possible civilization sparked his interest when a charm that the Minoans use to
wear was found, and it was brought to his attention. He started at Knossos, where the possible
civilization became a reality. He uncovered multiple palaces, which have all been named since then.
They are named: Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, and Zakros. Each one shows signs of religion, trade,
and politics. They believed these palaces controlled the Minoan civilization. These Palaces seemed
to co exist on this small island because there are no signs of wall fortifications or protection.
Although they were able to stand their ground when challenged because they made swords,
daggers, and armor. The Minoan civilization was intellectually advanced for their time.
Hieroglyphics, writing, art, frescos, and pottery. This civilization created three different writing
styles, although the first was not complex and structure enough to be considered a writing style. It
only involved pictures and symbols simply drawn to express a thought. This type of writing was
mainly found in Knossos and Phaistos. The next type of style was called Script A. Cretan
Hieroglyphs and Linear A were likely very closely related and in fact might be two scripts of the
same writing system, but we do not know enough about either system to draw any conclusions at
this time (ancientscripts.com). Historians are unable to

Paper Towel Research Paper
Paper towels were invented by a school teacher in 1907. She felt the germs were being spread by the
students who dried their hands on the same cloth towel. At the same time Arthur Scott heard about
it and his company. Scott paper company accidentally made toilet paper too thick. When Arthur
Scott heard about the story, he thought of making more thick toiletpaperrolls and introduce them as
Sani towels. And they were to be used in the kitchen to clean up messes.
Currently paper towels are used for lots of different things. Some examples are drying hands,
wiping tables or desks, cleaning the windows, cleaning the bathrooms etc.
Each year we use 13 billion pounds of tissue paper and towels. Most of it is not recycled and goes
into the landfills.

Rosalind Franklin s Isolation
(1): Rosalind Franklin feels isolated early on when she arrived at Kings and began to set up her
equipment. Maurice Wilkins decides to check on Rosalind, Well, we like to keep in touch.
[pause, Franklin looks away]. Just as you wish. Keep me posted [Franklin tilts her head
suddenly, displeased]. (Scene 3). Rosalind is displeased after Wilkins wants to know when she
makes progress with her work. This could mean that Rosalind is afraid that King s College is
using her just to gather more information about DNA. Another scene where Rosalind feels unequal
when compared to others in the film is when her research assistant Raymond Gosling shows
Rosalind s work to Maurice Wilkins. I wonder why we bother to do experiments. [Clearly upset.]

It s as if I m surrounded by children, Vittorio. Adolescents. They all want to have the theories
without doing the work. I miss Paris. (Scene 6). This shows that she can talk freely and have
someone to talk to when she is talking to her friend, making her feel more trustworthy and
showing that she is not always isolated when she is around the right people. When compared to
previous scenes, Rosalind Franklin feels uneasy and more unequal when she is at King
surrounded by fellow scientists, but when she is out near friends or on a walk, she can be more
approachable since she can feel treated equally and no longer alone when she has someone to
talk to. Another scene for when Rosalind feels more sociable is when she gets Vittorio to visit
her workplace at Kings. I just wanted you to see for yourself, Vittorio. Sometimes I think it s all
in my head. (Scene 9). In this scene, Rosalind gets a friend to see what condition she is working
in at Kings, so that she can see whether she is feeling as if she is treated unequally or not just
because she is a woman, which her friend agrees on when he says, Reserved for men. Women are
not allowed. (Scene 9).

Business and the Economy
Business and the Economy
1. Business is one of the principal elements fueling the economy and the way that functions
reflects on society as a whole. Businesses are responsible for the creation of a competitive market
and it is only safe to say that they make it possible for a community to achieve economic progress.
Individuals in a competitive environment feel pressured to act as effectively as possible and they
are thus enabled to put across behavior that contributes to the wellbeing of the economy. Even with
the fact that businesses are not exactly meant to cause a great deal of social benefits, they are
nonetheless essential in keeping the economy alive.
Although it would be absurd to claim that businesses has a moral role in society, one can claim
that it is one of the most important tools assisting people achieve progress. Many people experience
stress as a result of their involvement in the economy, as they are unable to keep up with the fact
that it is constantly growing and they end up being unable to sustain themselves.
2. In spite of the fact that people generally focus on public and private entities when they think
about the economy, nonprofit organizations are also an important actor in the economy. Public
institutions are in charge of producing goods and services that are generally considered to be
wanted by everyone. Private agencies focus on providing people with personalized goods and
services and are largely dependent on market competition in order to

Information Visualization And Data Mining
Part 1: Introduction 1.1 Information Visualization and Data Mining The continuous developing
advanced technology has been leading to the generation of millions of terabytes of information
every year. Most of them can be available in digital forms [1]. The large amount of information is
no longer hard for human to locate and achieve thanks to the quick development of search engine
such as Google. However, understanding information is still a problem for most humans.
Information visualization utilizes computer based visual representations of information to enhance
and extend human thinking. Visual components are broadly used because human eyes can process
visual signals more rapidly and human brains can understand them more easily. Since the first
IEEE conference on Information Visualization in 1990 [1], this technology has been broadly used
in various subjects such as earth science, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science in
order to represent copious data and potential patterns visually and obviously. In non science
disciplines, such as business, digital libraries, human behavior, information visualization has also
been applied. The emerging data from the everywhere in the world make the birth of big data era.
There exist potential values in those data, while the big volume, variety and velocity [2] of the data
make it nearly impossible for humans to analyze resources manually so as to find the hidden
treasures. Under this circumstance, the concept and technique

Disappearing Machiya
3.1 Disappearing Machiya Due to ageing of the building, the number of Machiya are decreasing
year by year and facing the possibility of extinction today. Expensive maintenance costs for
owners and stricter disaster or fire prevention regulations in japan are also big concerns. Since
the Japanese economy started receding about 15 years ago, existence of Machiya are in the
crucial states are this has in turn affecting Kyoto city in its historical and traditional factors.
According to a survey conducted in 2003, more than 50% of matey residents stated that finical

of Machiya were destroyed. Over 80% of existing Machiya have lost some of their distinct... Show

It was built circa 1935 and had been empty for the last ten years. It is composed of the original
structure (omoya) and a first floor extension to the south and west sides circa 1965 80. The
particular L shaped addition created a novel linkage between the omoya and garden which would
rarely be seen in a newly built house, effectively capturing the timeline of the house. Machiya can
never be built again under Japan s current law, since the construction of new Machiya is prohibited
since end of World War II. Thus, restoration of historic machiya is only way for Japanese
carpenters and craftsmen to maintain a link with a rich building tradition. The restorations began
when groups of concerned citizens from Kyoto called for efforts to protect the matey and to create
positive motivational influences for their preservations. Machiya in Kyoto were included on the

Mapping the Man behind the Qing period Garden The symposium, Artful Retreat: Garden Culture
of the Qing Dynasty , jointly organized by the Peabody Essex Museum and Harvard University
and held on 12 13 November 2010, reveals Qianlong s emotional relationships to the Qing gardens.
Gathering scholars from Australia, China, Europe, and the United States, it provides an exceptional
opportunity for ten scholars, such as Hui Zou (Professor of Architecture at the University of
Florida) and Mark Elliott (Professor of Chinese and Inner Asian History in the Department of East
Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University), to share their perspectives on the artistic,
political, historical, and economic aspects of the Qing period garden culture.... Show more content

Berliner s article, however, is less compelling than these. In order to explain the blend of the artifact
and the natural settings in the Liubei Ting (жµЃжќЇдє), she gives an example of a Qianlong period
vase with different designs and glazes, asserting that Qianlong liked contrast and preferred to
amalgamate different design elements together. The evidence, yet, is not solid enough to support
this argument. First, the lecturer does not show her evidence objectively, because she only talks
about the feature of a specific vase, rather than a general type. The type of vase that shows sharp
contrast between glaze colors is the wucai (дє”еЅ©) ware, developing from the sancai (дё‰еЅ©)
technique in the Tang dynasty. Apart from the mixed color vases, there were a lot of other
categories of vases in the Qianlong period. One dominant type is the blue and white ware.
Porcelains with famille rose overglaze enamel decoration were also popular. This kind has the
harmonious combination of colors of green, yellow, black, and rose with blurry edges between
colors. Also, these types of porcelain often have auspicious themes. For instance, the Blue and
White Vase of Soft Paste Porcelain with a Lion and an Eagle (Fig. 2) depicts a theme of longevity
and happiness. Presenting unity in both the subject matters and the glaze colors, these vases do not
suggest contrast. Instead of rushing into the conclusion that most Qianlong period vases show
contrasts in design, the speaker should have taken other types of vases into account. Therefore, it
cannot persuasively support the argument against the emperor s propensity for implementing
different elements in design. Neither could it justify Qianlong s conscious choice of integrating the
abstract manmade water channel into the realistic natural landscape

Lithium in the Treatment of Bipolar I Disorder
Introduction Lithium is the medication most extensively used to treat the mania and depression of
Bipolar I. However, due to the high incidence of inadequate preventive response, as well as a host of
undesirable side effects and a narrow therapeutic index, health care providers have sought other
mood stabilizing medications for either monotherapy or use with Lithium. One such medication is
Carbamazepine, used either in monotherapy or in combination with other medications. While
pharmacotherapy is classically used to treat Bipolar I Disorder, health care providers are finding
that psychosocial treatments can assist in more effective treatment of some facets of the disease,
encouraging patient collaboration, participation and education, which ultimately may enhance long
term mood stabilization, occupational and social functioning, and quality of life. Body: Lithium in
the Treatment of Bipolar I Disorder, including Parameters and Strength of Evidence Supporting
Treatment. Lithium is the medication most extensively used to treat the mania and depression of
Bipolar I. Marketed under the brand names of Eskalith or Lithobid (Martin, 2011), Lithium is often
prescribed as maintenance therapy due to its highly reported success in reducing the frequency
/severity of mania, preventing mania, lessening depression and reducing the risk of suicide (Wyatt,
2011). What is more, researchers have found that the earlier Lithium is used, the higher the
reduction of morbidity among

Taking a Look at Virtual Currencies
Virtual currencies such as bitcoin are portrayed as an innovative design in the distribution of money
throughout the world through the use of peer to peer transactions due to it being fraudulent and
impossible to counterfeit. However, bitcoin holders are anonymous and could act in a similar way
to black markets, their bitwallet is unregulated and untaxed. Using bitcoin as a currency also delves
into the problem where users purchase illegal objects and substances anonymously.
Bitcoin is essentially an electronic cash currency and is perceived as a great success since its
launch in 2009. Most e cash schemes require a centralized bank, which acts as a safeguard for
potential scams or for double spending detection. (Simon Barber et al. 2012 p 401), In contrast,
the bitcoin protocol allows individuals to freely send bitcoins without any third party interference.
The fee for sending bitcoins is very little in comparison to other online payment methods such as
PayPal thus bitcoin is considered to be cost efficient. (Grinberg, R. 2012 p 160). Bitcoin is
considered ethical because it is unique to the characteristics of credit cards. Banks have attempted
to remove the issue of fraud and find mechanisms to stop hackers and phishers from obtaining
personal data. This is because traditional transactions require the transmission confidential data,
making data vulnerable to interception by hackers (Simon Barber et al. 2012 p 402). In regards to
bitcoin, only a bundle of characters

The Dubble Campaign: Write an evaluation of how effective you think the Dubble campaign has been so far and how your advertising has aimed to reach Dubble s target audience effectively. In October 2000, Comic Relief and The Day Chocolate Company teamed up with Kuapa Kokoo, a co operative of 35,000 Ghanaian cocoa farmers, to launch Dubble, a unique chocolate bar aimed at 10 16 year olds. In January 2001, Dubble was introduced to the public through a chocolate challenge competition launched by Comic Relief on the Live and kicking show. The competition was to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Day Chocolate Company carried out research on the target audience. They found out that the 10 16 age range was a tribal and friendship orientated age group, which knew global issues, trusted the ideas behind comic relief and understood the concept of fairness, but were unfamiliar with Fair Trading. They chose chocolate based on brand appeal and taste. Therefore, by exploiting links with comic relief and Fair Trade the target audience would see Dubble as a popular and trusted product which aimed to increase fairness in the world. From my market research, I wanted to find out how popular the product was, and whether any improvements could be introduced. I needed to ascertain key forms of entertainment used by 10 16 year olds so that the selling and advertising of Dubble could be more focussed. I needed to find out the proportion of average pocket money spent on chocolates, so that Dubble could be priced accordingly, and to see if people had heard about fair trading and if not, as to how to best convey the Fair Trade message. Most teenagers shopped at Safeway s, visited the cinema often, used a varied range of media and were fairly familiar with the new product. Most spent about a ВЈ1 /week on chocolate. My findings also demonstrated that Dubble is best advertised on T.V, as this was the main form of media used which, influenced teenagers when it came to buying products. The group of Brazil , Russia, India, China, Mexico, and South Korea are commonly referred to as the Big Six ( B6 ) by global management consulting firm Accenture, as they are the leading developing economies. Earlier, owing to their low cost structures, the developing economies served as mere outsourcing locations for the MultiNational Companies (MNCs) of the West. However, the changing global economic scenario had brought down trade and investment barriers and integrated global supply chains, thereby paving the way for the development of emerging markets. Some of the developing countries were witnessing rapid growth and thus the nomenclature Rapidly Developing Economies (RDEs) was assigned to them. The term Rapidly Developing Economies was used to denote emerging markets such as China, India, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Poland, Indonesia, Turkey, and South Korea. Moreover, the importance of the emerging markets to the global economy came into sharp focus as the world came out of the global economic recession. Experts said that the importance of emerging economies to world trade had been steadily increasing. Between 1990 and 20 I0, the annual growth rate of exports and imports from emerging and developing economies averaged around 7.5% compared to the figure of around 5% for developed economies.4 It was reported that the share of the RDEs in global trade was growing significantly. • 4. Analysis Of The Poem Porphyria s Lover By Alfred Lord... Somebody s Instead of Somebody Women were to be seen, but not heard. Women were expected to become wives and use their wombs to create a family. Women were expected to obey their husbands and do as they were told. A women s role in Victorian society was to raise the children and make sure the household was kept clean. Women were obligated to fulfill these societal values because they lived in a world where the men dominated the social hierarchy, and women were not free to express nor be themselves. In the poem, Mariana , written by Alfred Lord Tennyson, a womannamed Mariana is waiting all night for a man to come proclaim his love for her. Writers such as Tennyson and Browning explored the societal expectations placed on Victorian women in their poems by describing them as powerless and weak woman who, in one way or another, need a man. Having to rely on a man for survival was normal for Victorian woman. Women understood that their destiny was to follow in the traditions of finding a husband and keeping him happy and never having an opinion on anything. It is as if the woman was purposely meant to be silenced and left to just be a small detail in terms of the big picture just to ensure the guarantee of the official male power, a power that, deeming women unprincipled and emotional, advocated confining them to the domestic sphere where their true self could be easily neutralized (Avarvarei 536). Men created the idea of women being these fragile human beings who aren t smart enough to make their own decisions and needing a man to make them happy. Men needed to convince themselves that women were not capable of caring for themselves nor making their own decisions because men need to feel needed. A man s ego is not satisfied unless a damsel in distress needs him to save her and become this huge hero that she will forever have to repay for essentially saving her life. • 8. Advantages Of Economic Profit 1.0INTRODUCTION In finance, the proposed objective of the firm is the maximisation of economic profit. This maximising objective is expressed in terms of the market value of the firm s shares. These notions should not be confused with accounting profit which usually attempts to match periodic revenues and expenses as well as other concepts. As a result, accounting profit is somewhat arbitrary and fails to take account of all factors which affect shareholders wealth. The discussion on the forms of corporate organisations revealed that, there are a number of advantages that investors and owners derive. What business firms are seeking to achieve and therefore what investment and financing decisions should seek to promote is a question central to business finance and one which has attracted considerable discussion as the subject has developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, maximization of profit is far too broad a definition of what is likely to be beneficial to shareholders. 2.1Why is profit maximisation not the best operational goal? Emery and Finnerty (1997) posit three important reasons why profit maximization is not the best operational goal. First, profit maximization is vague. Profit has many different definitions. Do we mean accounting profits (based on book values) or economic profit (based on market value and beyond a fair return)? Secondly, profit maximization ignores differences in when we get the money. Profit maximization does not distinguish between getting a cedi today and getting a cedi in the future, such as a year from today. Third, profit maximization ignores risk differences between alternatives. When given a choice between two alternatives that have the same return but different risk, most people choose the less risky one. This makes the less risky alternative more valuable. Many police officers find users unconscious or dead in cars, restaurants, in parks, hospitals, and libraries. The heroinepidemic needs to be stopped immediately by understanding where the problem starts, the effects of the drug, and educating the public about treatment, addiction, and the problems the addiction causes on a personal level. • 10. Affermative Action By: Elissa Thomas E mail: elissa@usais.net Affirmative Action Affirmative Action efforts were started in 1964 to end the long history of overlooking qualified people of color and women from higher education. Affirmative Action sets standards for a business or office of admissions, so that a white man does not have the upper hand over an equally or greater educated minority. The initial way the government tried to justify Affirmative Action was to develop a human resource approach: first identifying the problem, which is racism then establishing the solution (Phillips 67). Thus, bans on Affirmative Action are having negative effects on enrollment for blacks and other minorities in Texas and California s prominent universities. Therefore, proving that without Affirmative Action, any minority will not have a fair chance in today s society. Professor Lino Graglia, a critic of Affirmative Action points out The whole reason you have racial preferences is that the racially preferred do not meet the standards applied to others, if you require that they meet the standards, then they don t get in. This might be true in some maybe all cases, but in this very true rebuttal to Graglia s statement Rodney Ellis, Texas state senator, graduate of the University Law School in 1976 says I clearly got in through an Affirmative Action program, and I don t apologize for it... North American Aviation Corporation was granted the contract to build these medium range, single seat, high altitude, multi purpose fighter jet/bombers. There were over 6,000 of the jets produced between the two facilities in Los Angeles, California and Columbus, Ohio. This plane was the first United States jet fighter with swept wings, which allowed it to unofficially break the sound barrier on 1 October 1947. As the technology advanced in China and North Korea the MiG 15 came in to play and was far more superior than the piston engine aircraft the United States and UN forces were flying. One of the most significant things about the MiG 15 is that with its superiority over the P 51 Mustang the United States Air Force had to keep all of the B 29 Superfortress grounded due to the lack of security. The B 29 Superfortress had been a major game changer in World War II. The B 29 was designed for the high altitude strategic bomber role. One of the B 29 s final roles during World War II was carrying out the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the F 86 Sabre was introduced in Korea, they patrolled the area just south of the Yalu, the so called Mig Alley, in long figure eights, always turning towards the north to keep from being surprised. The F 86 Sabre s and the MiG s were evenly matched. Both had 6,000 pound thrust jet engines, and could go supersonic in a dive. The MiG was smaller, and it could climb higher and faster. The Sabre was faster in level flight and in a dive, had a greater range, and could turn tighter in a fast dive. The Sabre carried six 50 caliber machine guns, while the MiG relied on a single 37 mm and two 23 mm cannon. • 12. The Evolution Of Allergies On Homo Sapiens Sarah Husted Anth 423 The evolution of allergies in Homo sapiens As of 2008, approximately 25% of people in the developed world suffer from allergic disorders (Galli, Tsai, Piliponsky, 2008). These disorders can be mild, but they can also be severe. Hay fever, asthma, eczema, and anaphylaxis are a few examples of what can be categorized as allergic disorders. The morbidity rates among school aged children in the industrialized world is even higher than in the general population with 40 50% of children susceptible to one or more type of allergy (Pawankar et al., 2011). The pervasiveness of allergies worldwide has risen in the developed world for over 50 years. Many people take medication for their allergies but it can often take years to find a completely effective regime, if ever. For some, allergic disorders can severely disrupt everyday life. With so many suffering from allergies it is no surprise that this area of health has been thoroughly studied. Interestingly enough though, while we do know what happens in the human body during an allergy attack there is still debate as to why we as humans evolved allergic disorders in the first place. On a biological level, when an allergen enters your system it triggers a Type 2 immune response (Pulendran, Artis, 2012). Th2 cells and IgE antibodies control this type of immune response as opposed to the Th1 and IgM, IgA and IgG used a Type 1 immune response (Palm, Rosenstein, Medzhitov, 2012). If we are ashamed of feeling jealous, we have the natural instinct to try to mask it with protective emotion such as anger, frustration, or resentment. Despite its name, the NBPP s founding was independent; it is not an official successor organization to the Black Panther Party. Members of the original Black Panther Party have insisted that this party is illegitimate and have vociferously objected that there is no new Black Panther Party. Critics characterize what they see as the NBPP s actively destructive extremism by pointing to examples such as Muhammad s Million Youth March , a youth equivalent of the Million Man March in Harlem in which 6000 people protested police brutality but also featured a range of speakers calling for the extermination of whites in South Africa. The rally ended in scuffles with the NYPD as Muhammad urged the crowd to attack those officers who had attempted to confiscate the NBPP members guns. Analysis Of The Movie Ballad Of Gregorio Cortez Borders Citizenship Rosalinda Castro Hispanics in the US 8:00 10:05am Midterm PART A Ariana Ocho There cannot be a discussion about borders without also discussing the metaphors that are linked to them. When speaking about the border people know the physical borderlines between countries, but to understand borders one must look pass the physical boundaries. As a society we must be and make ourselves more aware of the cultural identity, language, and community surrounding the Latino American population. During the Mexican American War the border moved, but the people didn t. History has shown us that no matter how thick the border might be Latino Americans have a strong connection to their culture and roots; instead of assimilating, Mexicans live between two worlds. The film, Ballad of Gregorio Cortez gave us a perspective of two cultures; Two cultures the Anglo and the Mexican lived side by side in state of tension and fear . Cortez is running for his life as he heads north, while the Anglo believe that because of his Mexican ethnicity, he would travel south to Mexico. Throughout the film there were cultural tensions and misunderstandings; language plays an important part of someone s identity, and for many Latino Americans Spanish is their first language. The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez also shows us that language plays an important role, and can cause confusion between two different groups. For example, Anglos refer to a male ... Dehumanization Of Women In The Handmaids Tale To dehumanize someone is to strip them of everything that makes them human, all their good qualities, all their basic rights, everything that can label them an individual. Similarly, in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the Republic of Gilead are degraded in such a way that they are stripped of their previous selves. Women in Gilead are outfitted by their functions, forced to have sex and they, especially handmaids, are used as tools. In The Handmaid s Tale, Atwood utilizes motifs to further dehumanize the women of Gilead. To begin, the Republic of Gilead outfits women based on their function to strip them of their individuality. The process starts by colour coding women into easily identifiable class groups. This is seen when Offred makes her way to town, narrating the scene and drawing attention to the other women by saying, There are other women with baskets, some in red, some in the dull green of the Marthas (Atwood 27). Women in Gilead have been colour coded to be easily identifiable and known under their respective colours, completely erasing their identities. Furthermore, the colours they wear identify their sole purposes to society. When Offred first introduces Econowives she notes that ...the striped dresses, red and blue and green... • 37. Robert Merton s Theory Of The Strain Theory Strain Theory Throughout history many sociologist and criminologist have developed theories to explain crimes in society. Robert Merton was an American sociologist. He believed societies like the United States create deviant citizens because they do not give them the tools to create The American Dream . There are various things that can turn a citizen deviant such as the inability to achieve valued goals, the presence of negative stimuli, and the removal of positive stimuli. A deviant citizen is not always a criminal, deviant citizens are simply defined as someone who goes out of societies norm. The behavior of citizens lead Merton to developed the Strain Theory. This theory explains how the strains of society effect and generate criminal behavior in order to achieve the American Dream. The American Dream is a social construct that has been created through media to promote an acceptable living status. The social status is constantly changing, but overall, it s a reflection of upper middle class and possessing higher education. Countries like the United States have such a great emphasis on wealth, but don t provide the things needed to achieve it. For example, if you attend public schools in a under privileged neighborhood you may not have the funds or opportunity to go to college. Not having a certain level of education can prevent you from jobs which has a ripple effect on your environment and home life. This ripple effect is well known in today s society causing citizens ... Differences Between Sierra Leone And Ghana Christina Freeman Professor Darren Osburn COL 299 10 July 2017 Comparing Cultures There are elements present in every culture, the roots of which make each country unique. To compare and show how similar Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian cultures are, I will focus on the emergence of each nation, as well as each culture s national identity. The historical backgrounds found within the countries of Sierra Leone and Ghana have shaped each of their national identities. Exploring how Sierra Leone and Ghana emerged as individual nations is crucial in understanding their national identities as well as necessary to show the similarities between Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian cultures. New courts were established, new codes and new laws were introduced, chiefs were confirmed or deposed and new ones appointed, direct and indirect taxation was introduced, and forced labour was demanded for the construction of roads and railways. All these measures naturally generated various reaction (Cohen and Boahen 68). In 1899, while still under colonialization, the Temne and Mende people of Sierra Leone led a rebellion, the Hut Tax Rebellion, in protest to taxes imposed by the British because, Sierra Leoneans did not passively accept such manipulations. • 39. The Theory Of Child Rearing 1. Dr. John Watson, in his advocation in favor of nurture stated essentially, as we had discussed in some of our class sessions, that his approach to child rearing would have a direct impact on outcomes. It could be argued that child rearing is the one thing that could counter cultural influences as being more impactful. We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east where members work in a collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the individualist societies similar to the western cultures where individual achievement for self is considered to be of more value. Which I believe contributes more to selfishness and an over emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me back to the behavior modification class I had as an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to behave in different social settings that may be presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave differently in a social settings such as, school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location may be acceptable but not another location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked in the privacy of your own home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down upon what they may perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other cultures may be given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying. Those from these collectivist societies that travel to the west cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Forms, counterforms and volumes of shape that interact with other characters and space are important considerations in a character. Matthew Carter took the in depth knowledge he gained of the physical forms of letters and transcribed new and ever lasting typefaces from it to become one of the most impactful typography designers of current times. From the Beginning Born in 1937 in London, Carter grew up with an expanded knowledge of typography. His father, Harry, worked in the same field, designing books and type. By the 1970s, he was back in London, still working with Linotype but also freelancing. In 1974 he created Bell Centennial (Figure 1) for AT T which is still used in telephone directories today. After years of freelance work, Carter eventually moved back to the United States and established his own company, Bitstream, in Massachusetts. When traditional typesetting became less profitable and the digital age set it, Bitstream created a collection of digital typefaces. A decade after its creation, Carter left Bitstream to pursue more design work. The Phone Book Bell Centennial was the first digital typeface design that Matthew Carter worked on in 1974. Originally, AT T had wanted to use Helvetica. Erik Spiekermann notes that Helvetica is meant to be consistent and homogeneous. The letters are all similar to one another. INTRODUCTION Team building can be collectively termed for various types of activities used to enhance social relations and define roles within teams, which often involves collaborative tasks. It is very much distinct from team training, which is designed to improve efficiency, rather than interpersonal relations. Many team building exercises are aimed to expose and address the interpersonal problems within the group.[1] These activities are intended to improve performance in a team based environment.[2] The formal definition of team building includes: aligning around the goals building effective working relationships among teammates reducing team members role ambiguity finding solutions to team problems collectively For group development activities in organizations team building is widely used. Recent meta analyses show that team development activities, including team building and team training, improve both team s objective performance as well as team s subjective supervisory ratings.[1] FOUR APPROACHES Salas and his team have described four approaches to team building ie..:[3][4] 1.Setting Goal This emphasizes on the importance of clear objectives of individual and team goals. • 43. The Minoan Civilization On The Mediterranean Island Of... The Minoan Civilization began on the Mediterranean island of Crete. It was first excavated by Sir Arthur Evans. The possible civilization sparked his interest when a charm that the Minoans use to wear was found, and it was brought to his attention. He started at Knossos, where the possible civilization became a reality. He uncovered multiple palaces, which have all been named since then. They are named: Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, and Zakros. Each one shows signs of religion, trade, and politics. They believed these palaces controlled the Minoan civilization. These Palaces seemed to co exist on this small island because there are no signs of wall fortifications or protection. Although they were able to stand their ground when challenged because they made swords, daggers, and armor. The Minoan civilization was intellectually advanced for their time. Hieroglyphics, writing, art, frescos, and pottery. This civilization created three different writing styles, although the first was not complex and structure enough to be considered a writing style. It only involved pictures and symbols simply drawn to express a thought. This type of writing was mainly found in Knossos and Phaistos. The next type of style was called Script A. Cretan Hieroglyphs and Linear A were likely very closely related and in fact might be two scripts of the same writing system, but we do not know enough about either system to draw any conclusions at this time (ancientscripts.com). Businesses are responsible for the creation of a competitive market and it is only safe to say that they make it possible for a community to achieve economic progress. Individuals in a competitive environment feel pressured to act as effectively as possible and they are thus enabled to put across behavior that contributes to the wellbeing of the economy. Even with the fact that businesses are not exactly meant to cause a great deal of social benefits, they are nonetheless essential in keeping the economy alive. Although it would be absurd to claim that businesses has a moral role in society, one can claim that it is one of the most important tools assisting people achieve progress. • 47. Information Visualization And Data Mining Part 1: Introduction 1.1 Information Visualization and Data Mining The continuous developing advanced technology has been leading to the generation of millions of terabytes of information every year. Most of them can be available in digital forms [1]. The large amount of information is no longer hard for human to locate and achieve thanks to the quick development of search engine such as Google. However, understanding information is still a problem for most humans. Information visualization utilizes computer based visual representations of information to enhance and extend human thinking. Visual components are broadly used because human eyes can process visual signals more rapidly and human brains can understand them more easily. Since the first IEEE conference on Information Visualization in 1990 [1], this technology has been broadly used in various subjects such as earth science, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science in order to represent copious data and potential patterns visually and obviously. In non science disciplines, such as business, digital libraries, human behavior, information visualization has also been applied. The emerging data from the everywhere in the world make the birth of big data era. There exist potential values in those data, while the big volume, variety and velocity [2] of the data make it nearly impossible for humans to analyze resources manually so as to find the hidden treasures. In order to explain the blend of the artifact and the natural settings in the Liubei Ting (жµЃжќЇдє), she gives an example of a Qianlong period vase with different designs and glazes, asserting that Qianlong liked contrast and preferred to amalgamate different design elements together. The evidence, yet, is not solid enough to support this argument. First, the lecturer does not show her evidence objectively, because she only talks about the feature of a specific vase, rather than a general type. The type of vase that shows sharp contrast between glaze colors is the wucai (дє”еЅ©) ware, developing from the sancai (дё‰еЅ©) technique in the Tang dynasty. Apart from the mixed color vases, there were a lot of other categories of vases in the Qianlong period. One dominant type is the blue and white ware. Porcelains with famille rose overglaze enamel decoration were also popular. This kind has the harmonious combination of colors of green, yellow, black, and rose with blurry edges between colors. Also, these types of porcelain often have auspicious themes. For instance, the Blue and White Vase of Soft Paste Porcelain with a Lion and an Eagle (Fig. 2) depicts a theme of longevity and happiness. Presenting unity in both the subject matters and the glaze colors, these vases do not suggest contrast. Instead of rushing into the conclusion that most Qianlong period vases show contrasts in design, the speaker should have taken other types of vases into account. Therefore, it cannot persuasively support the argument against the emperor s propensity for implementing different elements in design. Neither could it justify Qianlong s conscious choice of integrating the abstract manmade water channel into the realistic natural landscape ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, due to the high incidence of inadequate preventive response, as well as a host of undesirable side effects and a narrow therapeutic index, health care providers have sought other mood stabilizing medications for either monotherapy or use with Lithium. One such medication is Carbamazepine, used either in monotherapy or in combination with other medications. While pharmacotherapy is classically used to treat Bipolar I Disorder, health care providers are finding that psychosocial treatments can assist in more effective treatment of some facets of the disease, encouraging patient collaboration, participation and education, which ultimately may enhance long term mood stabilization, occupational and social functioning, and quality of life. However, bitcoin holders are anonymous and could act in a similar way to black markets, their bitwallet is unregulated and untaxed. Using bitcoin as a currency also delves into the problem where users purchase illegal objects and substances anonymously. Bitcoin is essentially an electronic cash currency and is perceived as a great success since its launch in 2009. Most e cash schemes require a centralized bank, which acts as a safeguard for potential scams or for double spending detection. The fee for sending bitcoins is very little in comparison to other online payment methods such as PayPal thus bitcoin is considered to be cost efficient. (Grinberg, R. 2012 p 160). Bitcoin is considered ethical because it is unique to the characteristics of credit cards. Banks have attempted to remove the issue of fraud and find mechanisms to stop hackers and phishers from obtaining personal data.
