The Impact Of Residential Schools On Communities And Families
The Impact of Residential Schools on Communities Families When residential schools began the kids
were forcibly taken away, leaving the parents at home alone with no one to look after but each other.
This became a huge issue within the communities because a huge part of First Nations life and culture
is to educate your children, pass on the culture and to take care of them. These parents couldn t do
that, which left them feeling helpless and broken. Children are a huge part of First Nations culture,
they are the future of the indigenous culture, if they are taken out of that cultural bubble at a young
age and assimilated they will not be able to continue passing on the traditional ways of their ancestors.
First Nations children are the future of the Aboriginal culture and its history by taking them away to
those residential schools so long ago the churches/government have disrupted the education they
would have received from their parents. Patricia Angus Monture explains that First Nations children
are the building blocks for the future of First Nations peoples,
When children of original ancestry are removed from their homes and communities: The traditional
circle of life is broken. This leads to a breakdown of the family, community, and breaks the bonds of
love between the parents and the child. To constructively set out to break the Circle of Life is
destructive and is literally destroying Native communities and Native cultures (Angus,1995).

Literary Analysis Of Johnny Got His Gun
Dalton Trumbo, author of Johnny Got His Gun, is known for his unique style of writing. Many
acclaimed authors of books such as Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice have a formal writing style , on
the other hand, Trumbo s is informal. It consists of short sentences and punctuation techniques. This
writing style is what sets Trumbo apart from others because this writing style is difficult to execute
and it is hard to apply to other works of literature. His book, Johnny Got His Gun has won the award
for National Award for Most Original Book . This book is about a soldier named Joe who has become
handicapped after a bomb blast and experiences flashbacks which reflect back onto his past and
present time. The authors style of writing affects the way a reader interprets the story through the use
of literary elements and literary devices. Fine
Three elements that define an author s style of writing include diction (the word choice), syntax
(sentence analysis), and figurative language (language analysis). An example of diction arises from the
main character, Joe, contemplating what they fight for in the war. The quote, Pay no attention when
they tap you on the shoulder and say come along we ve got to fight for liberty or whatever their word
is there s always a word, ( Trumbo, 118) displays Joe s frustration with the war. The word choices of

Alexander Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life Of Ivan...
Alexander Solzhenitsyn s classic novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a short novel about
a prisoner trying to survive a Soviet labor camp, known as the Gulag. Solzhenitsyn s writing style and
subject matter is similar to the pre Revolutionary writers than the writers of his time. Socialist realism
was the style of literature that was widely spread throughout Joseph Stalin s Soviet Union. Therefore,
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich consists mainly of socialist realist literature intended to
function as Communist propaganda, through optimistic and positive portrayals of workers satisfaction
on collective farms and in government factories. Thesis. The theme of work is prevalent throughout
the novella and throughout the history of the Soviet Union.
Soviet literature was increasing in popularity beginning in 1921. (DoaP). In the Soviet Union,
literature was to respond to social demand. The proletarians in literature had two goals: to root out
class alien culture, and to create new art forms in its place. The Cultural Revolution changed the face
of mass culture by means of industrialization and collectivization. Centralized institutions took over
local cultural production. On April 23, 1932, the Central Committee issued a decree On Restructuring
Literary Artistic Organizations , this created the new Writers Union. (PW)

Analysis of The Giver Book by Lois Lowry
The Giver starts off as the ordinary story of an eleven year old boy named Jonas. When we meet the
protagonist, he is apprehensive about the Ceremony of Twelve, at which he will be assigned his job.
Although he has no clue as to what job he might be assigned, he is astonished when he is selected to
be the Receiver of Memory. He learns that it is a job of the highest honor, one that requires him to bear
physical pain of a magnitude beyond anyone s experience. As the story progresses, we realise that the
society in it is not as ordinary as it seems. Among the inklings that we get that something is unusual is
when the author describes elephants as imaginary creatures . Later we learn that this community is
governed by a Committee of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, Jonas father, a Nurturer, has brought home a baby, Gabriel, who has had trouble sleeping
in the Nurturing Center. Jonas volunteers to have Gabe sleep in his room. While patting Gabe s back,
Jonas unintentionally transfers a memory to him. Gradually, Jonas develops an attachment to Gabriel,
one that mimics the familial attachments he has experienced in his memories. He forges a similar bond
with the Giver. Subsequently, Jonas discovers that release, the ultimate fate of old people, problematic
children and disobedient citizens, is synonymous with death. Jonas is shocked to see his own father
kill an innocent baby. Disgusted by his hypocrisy, Jonas refuses to go home. That night, the Giver and
Jonas devise a plan to change the community forever. According to the plan, Jonas will escape and the
Giver will remain to help the community deal with the memories that will return from Jonas.
However, Jonas is forced to change this plan and set out with Gabriel when he finds out that the latter
is to be released the following morning. With nothing but a few meals to help them through the
journey to Elsewhere, Jonas perseveres, seeking comfort in his memories. Eventually, they find their
way to a world full of colours, animals and seasons. The book ends on and ambiguous yet hopeful
note. The community depicted in the book

The Influence Of Political Culture In The United States

political behavior. This includes judgments, myths, beliefs and ideas about what makes a good society.
Political culture is a part of the government but it also has elements of history or traditions that may
impact the current regime. Political cultures are important because they shape a population s political
ideas or actions. The way the government can shape political culture or public opion is through
education, public events and things that have happened in the past. Political cultures vary from state to

Throughout the recent transmission of chikungunya, it has affected many countries in Central America

the Central American countries include Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Guatemala(CDC). Some
examples of the Caribbean countries would include Anguilla, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Haiti,
Jamaica, and many more(CDC). Each of these countries share a major thing in common, all of their
economies rely a great amount on Tourism and the people visiting their scenic lands(ABS 1 5). That

Essay on Jim Jones as a Prophet
Jim Jones as a Prophet
November 18, 1978 it all ended. Jim Jones and his
followers committed mass suicide in Guyana, South
America. The history of Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple
is still studied a great deal today. Why did all those
people follow Jones? Were they forced, were they brain
washed, or was Jones just that charismatic. In
this paper we will probe deep into Jonestown and answer
some of these questions. We will be using Max Webber s
article The Prophet find out if Jones was a prophet, if
so what kind of prophet was he. We will also compare and
contrast Webber s theories of charismatic leadership at
an attempt to understand Jim s activities, successes, and

California Jones appeared to be out primarily for his own
self interest not the church. Because of this Jones
shifts from an ethical prophet to an exemplary prophet.
After the subversive tactics of the Peoples Temple,
they started to feel the pressure from the society around
them. So again Jones moved the Church and anyone able to

they named their society Jonestown. The Church made
everything they needed and were essentially isolated from
the rest of the world. In Guyana, Jim was becoming less

so everyone had somewhat of stock invested, making Jim
less important. When Jim saw his importance fading, he
faked numerous injuries to gain attention. Jim claimed to
have cancer although an autopsy showed no cancer was
present in his body. Even though Jones forbid the use of
drugs, he became dependent on barbiturates and
painkillers. His excuse was that he needed them for the
pain of his non existent injuries. Then as quickly as it
grew it ended. The People Temple killed a congressman
coming to observe their life style. Knowing the
repercussions of this Jones organized a revolutionary
suicide that proved to everyone that they would not

Essay On Apollo Space Program
The Apollo space program was arguably one of the most important missions in the entire history of
mankind. This program represented the hopes of one nation and the fears of another. The middle of the
20th century the United States and the Soviet Union were locked in a battle to see who could get to the
moon first known as the space race. This race was intensified by the cold war that was going on
between the two countries at the time as well. The Apollo program first began in 1961 because of the
Soviet Union and very quickly became the backbone for the space program (CSN website). President
Kennedy wanted the program to land a man on the moon by the end of the decade, as he wanted
America to beat the Russians to it. This however, was an extreme ... Show more content on

This program represented the most remarkable scientific feat of the entire 20th century, and perhaps of
the entire human existence on earth.
For the astronauts to land on the moon new vehicles would have to be implemented for the them to
land. NASA designed the Apollo Command Module for this program (NASA website). It was a
capsule that had room for up to three men. The men would ride in the Command module to the moon
and back. The vehicle that was used for landing on the moon was the lunar module, which carried the
astronauts from the orbit around the moon to the surface of the moon and back to the Command
Module (NASA website). In the Apollo program, there were two types of rockets that were developed
to get to the moon from earth. The first flights of the Apollo Program utilized a smaller vehicle known
as the Saturn 1 B rocket (Nasa website). This rocket was 22 stories tall and had two stages. The first
stage would run out of fuel and then disconnect from the other part of the vehicle and then fall back
into earth s atmosphere and burn up. The other part of the rocket would then continue to fly
positioning itself in the earth s orbit. This was to

Evaluation Of An Individual s History And Early Life Span...
Sampson Laub (1993) focus on how delinquency arises in specific life span phases. They examine
what they call the stages of life course. The examination of an individual s history and early life gives
rise to the reasons behind their engagement in delinquency. Furthermore, the theory explicitly explains
why some individuals are more prone to pursue the criminal life than others.
The phases of the life span include the onset, continuance, escalation/de escalation, and desistance.
The onset phase is the reasons why individuals start committing crime. Continuance involves the
reasons the crimes keep occurring. The escalation phase involved the reasons behind the crime
becoming more severe. The de escalation phase is the reason why the crimes diminish in severity or
frequency. Finally, the desistance phase explains why offenders ultimately stop committing the crimes.
These stages of life course include young childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. The young
childhood stage is up to age 17, and includes adolescence. Any poor attachments created in this stage
give rise to the onset of delinquency. These poor attachments can emerge from their family or in
school. Common examples include parental neglect, a one parent household, and inconsistent parental
guidance and or supervision. In school, an individual may lack the ability to excel within their peer
groups, or may have a difficult time participating in extracurricular activities that take up their time.

The low tapping on the roof signaled the arrival of yet another summer shower. My mind was

(ESSAY QUESTION #1)
Assessment of the Establish Civil Security (LOE) and the linkage to the overall end state: The overall
depiction of the Establish Security LOE is both accurate and relevant to the end state of producing a
safe and secure environment. However, the order of decisive points within the LOE is out of order and
could develop complications of achieving the end state if not properly structured. Currently, the
decisive points within the Establish Civil Security LOE focus emphasis on protecting the
populace/infrastructure, disarming insurgents, clearing explosives, and recruit/train security forces to
successfully achieve a safe and secure environment. In contrast, the reordering of the decisive points
within the Establish Civil Security LOE will allow for a greater chance of success if executed
accordingly. Therefore, it is imperative that the Establish Civil Security LOE should reestablish the
decisive points as follows, thus ensuring both ease of transition as well as local security success.
(Recruit/Train Security Forces, Protect the Populace, Disarm Insurgents, Clear Explosives) If executed
in this order the ease of achieving a safe and secure environment is much more feasible.

Goodness me, isn t Australia big? With one hand on my hip, the other shading my vision, I gazed

thought. I could see a patch of pink in the distance, amongst all the dry land. Nowadays my eye sight

Christianity In Beowulf
Beowulf is an exciting tale about a Scandinavian man named Beowulf, who saves the Danes from an
unconquerable monster called Grendel. It is not known who the author of Beowulf. It is theorized that
the book had more than one author over a period of time. Another theory is that Beowulf only had one
author and other writers changed or added content to the story. Beowulf has many Christian aspects.
God is brought up many times throughout the book. The different monsters also represent the different
sins that humans commit almost daily. Grendel is envy and anger, Grendel s mother is feuding, and the
dragon is greed and hoarding. Beowulf was written in the time when England was being converted to
Christianity from paganism. Because of this, there are doubts that the authors of Beowulf knew about
God. Throughout the book, there are many indications that the author(s) of Beowulf knew about God s
existence. While it is doubted, they still praised God, acknowledged that he ... Show more content on

Cormac Mccarthy s No Country For Old Men
No Country for Old Men, by Cormac McCarthy, is about a Vietnam War veteran stumbling upon an
irreversible mistake of witnessing a drug deal going completely south and his journey of being on run
from these dealers. This novel has the adaptation of becoming a screenplay as Robert Mckee writes in
his novel, Story. No Country for Old Men has elements Mckee describes incorporated within the
novel, such as character development and controlling ideas. McCarthy s novel incorporates a defeat
for the protagonists instead of the typical victory against evil. Victories are cliché which Mckee
believes should be avoided when creating a film, so McCarthy s novel fits the role well.

Ethical Issues In Huck Finn
Throughout its history, Huck Finn has faced many controversies. It was shunned by many news outlets
at the time of its writing for its subject matter, being called trash by many publications. It was even
banned from some libraries for this reason. However, despite its flaws, Huck Finn proves to be an
entertaining novel that offers an interesting look into pre Civil war America, and should be freely
avaliable for all to read. Despite its inherent value as an examination of its time, many people had a
problem with the manner in which it was portrayed. One of these apparent issues was noted by a
censor of the Concord public library, who called into question the use of the dialect and grammatical
style of the book. To quote the New York Herald, who were reporting on the situation, Another
committeeman perused the volume with great care and discovered that it was couched in the language
of a rough, ignorant dialect and that all through its pages there is a systematic use of bad grammar and
an employment of inelegant expressions. These mannerisms, combined with other offenses, led to the
book garnering a trashy reputation in the eyes of the censors, who quickly banned it from their library.
however, to view these mannerisms as trashy and nothing more would be to misunderstand a large
portion of the novel s appeal. This novel is a period piece, set in the south before the onset of the Civil
War. In order to fully immerse the reader into this setting, Twain made sure to include all of the
different dialects that a person in that setting might hear. As the Athenaeum deftly explains, (The
characters are) schooled in half a dozen extraordinary dialects the Pike County dialect in all its forms,
the dialect of the Missouri negro, and the extremest form of the backwoods South Western dialect, to
wit. This makes the story and characters more entertaining, as it allows the reader to truly immerse
themselves into the narrative. However, some would argue that this immersion isn t entertaining in it s
own right. These people would say that, despite its the lengths it take to immerse you in its story, it s
generally coarse nature would drive off anyone who would try to endure it for more than five minutes.

Synthesis Of T-Butylbenzene Lab Report
he electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction leads to form 1,4 di t butylbenzene from the reaction of
benzene and t butyl chloride. The t butyl cholride is considered not electrophilic enough to react with
benzene, so it needs aluminium chloride catalyst to make it strong electrophile. Aluminium chloride is
a lewis acid. The chloride atom will be separated from t butyl chloride and attached to the aluminium
chloride to become AlCl4. So, the t butyl will be a carbocation, and it will be good electrophile due to
its ability to form carbon carbon bond.
( The equation of AlCl3).
( The mechanism of AlCl3).
The electrophile, t butyl cation, reacts with benzene. One of the three pi bonds of the aromatic ring

This is because the alkyl group substituent has lone pairs of electron, so it is electron donating group.
This leads to activate the aromatic ring through its work on increasing the electron density on the
aromatic ring by the effect of resonance. The resonance with para position will give carbocation on
two secondary carbons and one tertiary carbon. Para position makes the compound strongly stable
because the alkyl group will push the electrons toward the carbocation on tertiary carbon on the ring.
Mechanism 000000000000000
The resonance with ortho position, like para position, gives one carbocation on tertiary carbons, which
is the carbon that is next to the substituent. Also, ortho position gives carbocation on two secondary
carbon. The positive charge on the tertiary carbon on the ring makes it more stable because of its
location next to electron donating group which pushes the electrons toward the ring. Both ortho and
para positions forms a carbocation of the tertiary carbon. But, para position is more common. This is
because of the effect of steric

Color-Blind Racism
Sociologist define race as a socially defined category based on real or percived biological differnces
between groups of people . In the 19th century biologist came up with the three different categories
that groups the three human races: Mongoloid, Causasoid and Negroid. They belived that different
races where charaterized by biological makeup. But modern sciences have proved that theory to be
wrong because there is no such thing as a pure race. We are 99.9% genetically idenitcal. Race is just a
concept humans made up, it isn t actually real.
A minortiy group is the percentage of a ethnic group in a certain area. While dominate culture stay
dominant even if thy are technically the minorty, people of color are still considered to be minorties.
Sociologists define a minority as a group of people that are different from others in the same society
by race, nationality, religion, or language. A minortiey group is a social group that is systematically
denided access to power and resources avaible to the dominant groups of society (pg 220). Minorties
tend to lack in power roles which then are subjected to certain discriminations, and other unfair

ignore the realities of race, it still exsists and so does racism. Race consiouness can play a role in this
because the goal is for people to reconize and be aware for race in our everyday lives. We have to

Compare And Contrast Hurricane And Tornadoes
If you have never seen a tornado or hurricane, one day you might. Tornadoes and hurricanes are
severe storm systems that can devastate communities, towns, and cities. Storms such as these are very
dangerous and should not be taken lightly. Tornadoes and hurricanes have several similarities as well
as differences. These similarities and differences can be seen in their appearance, casualties, and costs
and damages of the storms. Interestingly, the appearance of a tornado and a hurricane are very
different. A tornado appears as a giant cone shaped figure that touches the ground. A hurricane appears
with heavy rains and strong winds, and appears near the ocean. Tornadoes are rapidly spinning
columns of air that extend from the sky and touch

Access Controls And Access Control
This chapter is basically based on access control in regards to computer information security. Access
control is seen as the fundamental mechanism put in place to help make information security
successful. Access control feature, in a particular system, will control how users can communicate,
access and modify system resources and programs. Access control was described in this chapter as a
very useful tool for the computer information security because it helps with ensuring that unauthorized
person or program have no access to what they are not supposed to. Access control is regarded as the
first line of defense to control, protect and monitor organization s resource s availability,
confidentiality and integrity.
Furthermore, this chapter illustrates how users can be granted access to network resources. It
explained that for a user to be allowed access to a network he must satisfy the condition of
identification and authentication. The identification part could be something of user ID, name or
account number. The identification key is not enough to grant access, but it s simply a way of
introducing yourself by saying who you are. Then, at that point the system will request for you to
authenticate yourself (confirm who you said you are) by requesting for an authentication key. The
authentication key could be password, passphrase, personal identification number (PIN), or a token.
Once, the authentication is verified and the system found it to be correct, then access will be

South Asia And Australia Essay
Every country in our world today shares some sort of relationship with another country. Whether it s
peaceful, aggressive, wanted or unwanted, each place shares a link with another. Australia has
countless connections across the world, but one continent we have a major connection with is Asia,
more specifically South Asia. The Asia Australia relationship can be separated into cultural and
political links. These cultural links include customs and traditions, religion, literature and art and food
and language. The political connections are history, politics and economy and trade.
CULTRUAL
Australia is one of the most multicultural countries on Earth, meaning people from many different
countries reside there. This can also make it difficult to find what a broad term for Australian culture
is, due to its many influences. But the aboriginal part to Australia s history does have a specific culture
we can identify. On the other hand South Asia s culture can be clearly defined. South Asia has
influenced Australia, and vice versa. They also share similarities and differences throughout each
other s customs, religions, art and food and language.
CUSTOMS
Within South Asia, most of them share similar social behaviours to one another. One of these customs
include wearing modest clothing and covering their heads with scarves. Clothes are typically draped
and colourful. Most people in the younger generation, now dress in more western clothes (such as
jeans and t shirts), but for special

The Thought and Influence of Voltaire Essay
The Thought and Influence of Voltaire
I The legacy of François Marie Arouet, or Voltaire is not only a vast collection of writings, but also a
world that has been radically and directly affected by these works and the activities of their author.
While Voltaire did not create many of the ideas he professed, his success at disseminating these is
unparalleled. He summed up with the most panache of anyone of his day the central issues of the
Enlightenment, and rallied with the greatest fervour to see his beliefs tangibly realised.
This paper will focus on Voltaire s stances on vital issues, their weight versus the ideas and practices
against which they are reactions, and their influence on both 18th century Europe and the modern
West. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cosmology Like many of the philosophes, Voltaire was a deist. He believed that, although God was
not one to intervene in earthly affairs, such an entity did exist. The scientific revolution had
demonstrated that the universe operated according to rational mechanics. Therefore, resembling a
machine, it must have an engineer behind it.5[5] While deist theories about space and time are
muddled and confusing for those of us who take modern science for granted (particularly in their
dependence on the concept of God),6[6] their nascent determinism is very familiar in this age where
behaviourism is so popular. Mired in Newtonian causality, Voltaire (echoing John Locke) believed that
action is the effect of which the will is the cause. The cause of the will is the effect of environment.
The environment is part of the clockwork universe made and wound by God.7[7] While this theory
brings environment into the discussion of development of personality, it makes people into passive
receptacles and cogs in machines.8[8]
Voltaire s belief in God was partly pragmatic. He recognised the difficulty of maintaining an ethical
system without rewards and punishments. The Christian tradition had so long used heaven and hell as
motivational factors that it was hard by the 18th century to imagine morality for its own sake. While
just laws would ensure just actions by the general population,

Sacrifice Of Animals In War Essay
Introduction You might know that humans are dying in wars, but show some love to the animals that
sacrifice their lives as well! Imagine that you were taken out of college or taken out of the place where
you are now and be put into the battlefield without any sign up sheets. The anxiety YOU have from
the bullets zooming across your face, hoping that YOU would be alive and in one piece. Doesn t that
sound scary to you? This is what military animals have to live by. They are thrown into training and
when they are old enough to be in battle, they don t have the voice to say a simple No. if they had the
choice to be in war. Indeed, military animals have saved countless amount of lives and have truly
change the outcome of war, but is this all worth the sacrifice? The sacrifice of bringing your best
friend that grew a bond with you and have the chance to die in front of you? Many people will believe
that animals should be used in the modern warfare because history shows that animals like the
messenger pigeon has delivered many messages that soldiers has wrote about the locations of enemy
lines. While other people believe that animals shouldn t be in war because it will traumatize the
animal. In this paper I will present alternative position on the topic of animals that are used in the
modern warfare, considering a variety of perspectives, and concluding with a position on animals that
are used in battlefields that seems most justifiable. Pros of Using Animals in War Yes!

Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Doll House
A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, is a play that follows Nora Helmer and her husband Torvald Helmer
through the holiday season and the fall of their marriage. Within the two acts there are many figurative
language devices used to help further the story along, however, there are a few in specific that stand
out. The play s foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony all contribute the most to the play s overall
development of Nora s self affirmation. Foreshadowing in A Doll House is present from the beginning
of the story. Much of which is not noticeable until later events. In the beginning of Act 1 Nora hides
her macaroons from Torvald, HELMER: Hasn t Miss Sweet Tooth been breaking rules in town today?
... taken a bite at a macaroon or two? NORA: No, Torvald. (Ibsen, 1657). Although it is minor in
nature, it reveals Nora s character of being rebellious despite Torvald s wishes. The effect this
characterization has on the story is that she is not the obeying wife that many were in the Victorian
Era. Through this foreshadowing the reader can begin to identify the conflicts of Nora and Torvald s
relationship that get developed on as the play progresses. Another example of foreshadowing is in Act
2 when Nora is getting ready to leave out to town, when she engages in a conversation with Anne
Marie about the children asking, Do they ask for me much? . To which Anne Marie responds, They re
so used to having Mama around, you know. . This is important because Nora replies with, Yes, but
Anne Marie, I can t be together with them as much as I was. (Ibsen, 1675). This hints towards Nora
abandoning her role as a mother, which in the end occurs when she leaves Torvald to find herself and
become independent. The foreshadowing throughout the play contributed to the dramatic ending.
Symbolism in A Doll House is another key element in the development of the play. The setting of the
play was during Christmas Eve throughout December 26th. Typically, this is the ending of the year
and represents family being together. However, as the play progresses, the optimistic outlook on
Christmas that is expected changes. In the opening description of the setting in Act 1 Nora tells
Helene, Hide the tree well... The children mustn t get a

Essay about Marijuana Should Be Legalized
In a country where tobacco products and alcohol are legal, I have always wondered, why not
cannabis? Why did this plant still have the stigma of being illegal when it does not cause any deaths,
is not nearly as physically addicting, nor as harmful as its legal counterparts? Clearly, the law of
marijuana prohibition is one that is up for debate and one that is up for change. Currently, many state
laws have been passed that are either decriminalizing marijuana or allowing it for purely medicinal
purposes. Although these laws are moving towards legalization, they do not come close to the actual
goal. The definition of legalization advocates are striving to reach refers to legalized wholesale

Essentially, people will always use marijuana because it is an alternative source of relaxation and
recreation. The government should learn to embrace these people s ability to choose rather than
prohibiting this source of intoxication which, despite its illegality, is already prevalent in society.
Not only would there be an increase of freedom of choice, but many people would literally gain
freedom. Allen St. Pierre, the Director of NORML (National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws)
states that since 1965, nearly 20 million citizens have been arrested in the United States on cannabis
related charges. More astonishingly, nine out of ten of these charges are for mere cannabis possession.
Such arrests are so frequent that almost everyone I have come in contact with has a friend or family
member affected by these petty laws. Even with new decriminalization laws, in nearly every state, a
person who commits a marijuana offense and fully serves his or her sentence (or successfully
completes probation) is nonetheless subject to continuing and long lasting professional debilitation,
barriers to family life, and limits on civic participation (Pierre). It is unfair that many people have to
go through life with a criminal record especially for mere possession of the drug. As a result, jails are

The Canadian Justice System And Capital Punishment
On December 11th, 1962 an important event occurred, an event that would change the
Canadian justice system in its views on capital punishment. Two men, Arthur Lucas, and Ronald
Turpin was to be executed in Canada for committing crimes. Both had been accused of committing
murder, Lucas for killing an officer while fleeing a robbery and Turpin for murdering an undercover
narcotics officer. Both were hanged back to back at midnight and buried side by side with no marking
on their graves. Lucas and Turpin were the last to be executed under capital punishment and since then
Canada has stopped this practice. Capital punishment has become the subject of debate in Canada of
whether it should be reintroduced. But the question is, does Canada really need to re introduce capital
punishment? Canada as a country is doing perfectly fine with its justice system and the need for
capital punishment seems unnecessary.
Capital punishment is expensive to maintain and raises the question of human rights and morals as
well as to injustice to those who are innocent who might be wrongfully executed.
The cost of maintaining any civil service is expensive to maintain, this is especially true for
correctional facilities. It costs an average of $117,888 for each prisoner in Canadas 54 federal

understand her identity she still has one. In contrast, in The Handmaids Tale most of the characters
aren t even given an identity, they are nameless. No character is represented by their own names, more
part of groups such as Handmaid, Wife or Martha. This shows that in this novel the body of women
and the functions are more important than their minds and identity. Most women were often described
by their features, their eyes and hands , this is to show the audience the lack of identity they hold and
how their psychical features are deemed more important than their mental ability. When one Ofglen is

Addiction To Heroin Essay
Heroin is an illegal opioid drug that is synthesized of morphine. The substance occurs in the Asian
opium poppy plant naturally and is then extracted ( DrugFacts:Heroin ). Heroin can be taken in many
different ways including being inhaled, injected or smoked. It creates a reaction within the body that
gives the user a feeling of euphoria and what is typically described as a rush . It is estimated that about
23 percent of users become dependent ( Genetic Susceptibility ). Heroin addiction is a chronic

physical dependence. Addiction to heroin is a worldwide public health crisis.
Today more people are using heroin, sometimes they start using because they have become addicted to

Alexander III of Macedon, known as Alexander the Great was the son of the king, Philip II of
Macedon. Alexander went on to conquer the largest western empire of the ancient world, after
becoming king at 20 when his father passed away. Alexander was interested in fusing the East and the
West for his new empire, which started with him and his army marching into the capital of Persia,
Persepolis, in 330 BC where they remained for roughly four months. Alexander originally allowed his
men to loot and kill as they liked, allowing many natives to be killed.
After everything had settled Alexander made it clear to everyone that he had intended to adopt a

When investing in a term deposit, the individual must invest a minimum of $5000. This sum of money
can be kept in a term deposit for as little as 1 month or as long as 5 years. A term deposit has a low
rate of risk, so the invested money is guaranteed to earn interest over a period of time. However, since
it is a fixed rate, investment returns are likely to be minimal. This negative is counterbalanced by the
absolute security of this investment contract. Returns will be comparable to those from non fixed rates
depending on the economic environment. Additionally, this investment is a suitable option for young
people as it allows them to redraw the money after the maturity date. With the expenses that typically
arise when starting a home or family, it is likely that the ability to access this fund after the investment
has ceased would provide a major financial benefit. This money cannot be accessed throughout the
investment period, ensuring that the sum cannot be spent. Interest on a term deposit is compounded
every 4 weeks, 6 months or yearly, depending on the preference of the individual. The individual must

influence on a generation is Atticus Finch, father of the protagonist in To Kill A Mockingbird . Both as
a father, and a lawyer, he has served, and still today serves as a pillar of righteousness and morality.
The ability for his morality to translate to all people, across ages, races, and cultures, is a feat
preformed by Harper Lee in her masterpiece, To Kill A Mockingbird . She establishes Atticus Finch as
the moral center of the novel by juxtaposing his actions and the relationships with those of the
majority of Maycomb. In doing so, she has made him a cultural, and oftentimes personal icon. The
relationships established by Atticus Finch with his children, the Ewells, and the rest of the town,
including the black community, are a large reason why he is known as the moral center, and why it
seems all immoral conflict revolves around him. The reader sees it play out in the plainest terms with

paternal relationship with him, demonstrated by how they refer to him as Atticus instead of Father .
We see him teach Scout how to read, and the amount of time he spends with his children, even though
the majority of the novel takes place during an important court case in his career. Along the way, he
teaches them lessons, like how it s

Marius s Life
Marius, a Romanian 8 year old boy, lived a life just as every other kid his age. He attended school,
played with his friends and his dog, and helped his family with chores. Once the accident occurred,
life changed for Marius although he was always positive during his recovery process. Both of Marius s
parents died during the accident, however, he still had a large support system. This support came from
both Marius s older sister and brother who were not home at the time of the accident. Also, the interns
at the hospital provided a large amount of help to Marius as did the interns parents and other family
members. Shriners Hospital for Children in Los Angeles as well as all of the support from teachers,
home tutors, and the translator, Teodora, made the entire recovery process possible. So even though
Marius did not have his parents, he still had an abundance of support and assistance. ... Show more

The burns were so severe that they resulted in Marius being in a coma. Additionally, all ten of Marius
s fingers were amputated and the skin from his back was grafted onto his legs. Unfortunately, Marius s
nose was basically all burned off so it appeared as if he had no nose. Also, the skin around his eyes
was burned, so he was unable to blink. The doctors feared Marius would lose his sight so they had to
place a gel in his eyes in order to hopefully maintain sight. The burns made it difficult for Marius to
complete ADLs and it was months before he left bed and attempted to walk. Therefore, this was a
long, expensive process in order to

The Cruelty Of Animal Hoarding In The United States
While the argument can be made that the animals are being treated equally as humans, others assert
there is harm towards the animals. One should be concerned with the pros and cons about animals. All
evidence considered, rather than harming animals, one needs appreciate and merit the animals.
Obviously, animals over the years have been harmed by the society. But do the people know the
animals are being harmed? According to dosomething.org, it s been estimated that there are 900 to
2,000 new cases every year of animal hoarding in the US, with 250,000 animals falling victim.
Meaning that animals are going through one of the most egregious forms of animal cruelty, that has
been affecting tens of thousands of animals particularly cats and dogs in communities nationwide.
Hoarders keep abnormally gargantuan amount of animals for whom they do not provide even the most
basic care. Animal victims of hoarders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, animal protein weakens your bones, they tend to be acidic and your body is naturally
alkaline. As an incident, the buffering solution comes from your bones and it causes a lot of calcium to
alkaline. Along with that calcium that is building block of strong bones. So, if your bones are getting
rid of calcium that s not a effusive thing for the bone health. Recognizing that some did not know that
animals protein would actually not benefit you but instead weakens your bones. To the Animal Waste
and Waste Management: By definition, AFO s produced large amounts of waste in small areas. As
another example, a single dairy cow produces approximately 120 pounds of wet manure per day. The
waste produced per day one dairy cow is equal to that of 20 40 people. So, if the owners of the cows
are willing to actually produce healthy dairy, and avoid the healthy dairy, my theory is convivial that
people should think about the products they sell before it s in the store

  • 2. The Impact Of Residential Schools On Communities And Families The Impact of Residential Schools on Communities Families When residential schools began the kids were forcibly taken away, leaving the parents at home alone with no one to look after but each other. This became a huge issue within the communities because a huge part of First Nations life and culture is to educate your children, pass on the culture and to take care of them. These parents couldn t do that, which left them feeling helpless and broken. Children are a huge part of First Nations culture, they are the future of the indigenous culture, if they are taken out of that cultural bubble at a young age and assimilated they will not be able to continue passing on the traditional ways of their ancestors. First Nations children are the future of the Aboriginal culture and its history by taking them away to those residential schools so long ago the churches/government have disrupted the education they would have received from their parents. Patricia Angus Monture explains that First Nations children are the building blocks for the future of First Nations peoples, When children of original ancestry are removed from their homes and communities: The traditional circle of life is broken. This leads to a breakdown of the family, community, and breaks the bonds of love between the parents and the child. To constructively set out to break the Circle of Life is destructive and is literally destroying Native communities and Native cultures (Angus,1995). Showing First Nations ... • 4. Literary Analysis Of Johnny Got His Gun Dalton Trumbo, author of Johnny Got His Gun, is known for his unique style of writing. Many acclaimed authors of books such as Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice have a formal writing style , on the other hand, Trumbo s is informal. It consists of short sentences and punctuation techniques. This writing style is what sets Trumbo apart from others because this writing style is difficult to execute and it is hard to apply to other works of literature. His book, Johnny Got His Gun has won the award for National Award for Most Original Book . This book is about a soldier named Joe who has become handicapped after a bomb blast and experiences flashbacks which reflect back onto his past and present time. The authors style of writing affects the way a reader interprets the story through the use of literary elements and literary devices. Fine Three elements that define an author s style of writing include diction (the word choice), syntax (sentence analysis), and figurative language (language analysis). An example of diction arises from the main character, Joe, contemplating what they fight for in the war. The quote, Pay no attention when they tap you on the shoulder and say come along we ve got to fight for liberty or whatever their word is there s always a word, ( Trumbo, 118) displays Joe s frustration with the war. Alexander Solzhenitsyn s classic novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a short novel about a prisoner trying to survive a Soviet labor camp, known as the Gulag. Solzhenitsyn s writing style and subject matter is similar to the pre Revolutionary writers than the writers of his time. Socialist realism was the style of literature that was widely spread throughout Joseph Stalin s Soviet Union. Therefore, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich consists mainly of socialist realist literature intended to function as Communist propaganda, through optimistic and positive portrayals of workers satisfaction on collective farms and in government factories. In the Soviet Union, literature was to respond to social demand. The proletarians in literature had two goals: to root out class alien culture, and to create new art forms in its place. The Cultural Revolution changed the face of mass culture by means of industrialization and collectivization. Centralized institutions took over local cultural production. On April 23, 1932, the Central Committee issued a decree On Restructuring Literary Artistic Organizations , this created the new Writers Union. The middle of the 20th century the United States and the Soviet Union were locked in a battle to see who could get to the moon first known as the space race. This race was intensified by the cold war that was going on between the two countries at the time as well. The Apollo program first began in 1961 because of the Soviet Union and very quickly became the backbone for the space program (CSN website). • 14. Evaluation Of An Individual s History And Early Life Span... Sampson Laub (1993) focus on how delinquency arises in specific life span phases. They examine what they call the stages of life course. The examination of an individual s history and early life gives rise to the reasons behind their engagement in delinquency. Furthermore, the theory explicitly explains why some individuals are more prone to pursue the criminal life than others. The phases of the life span include the onset, continuance, escalation/de escalation, and desistance. The onset phase is the reasons why individuals start committing crime. Continuance involves the reasons the crimes keep occurring. The escalation phase involved the reasons behind the crime becoming more severe. The de escalation phase is the reason why the crimes diminish in severity or frequency. Finally, the desistance phase explains why offenders ultimately stop committing the crimes. These stages of life course include young childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. The young childhood stage is up to age 17, and includes adolescence. Any poor attachments created in this stage give rise to the onset of delinquency. These poor attachments can emerge from their family or in school. Common examples include parental neglect, a one parent household, and inconsistent parental guidance and or supervision. It was shunned by many news outlets at the time of its writing for its subject matter, being called trash by many publications. It was even banned from some libraries for this reason. However, despite its flaws, Huck Finn proves to be an entertaining novel that offers an interesting look into pre Civil war America, and should be freely avaliable for all to read. Despite its inherent value as an examination of its time, many people had a problem with the manner in which it was portrayed. One of these apparent issues was noted by a censor of the Concord public library, who called into question the use of the dialect and grammatical style of the book. To quote the New York Herald, who were reporting on the situation, Another committeeman perused the volume with great care and discovered that it was couched in the language of a rough, ignorant dialect and that all through its pages there is a systematic use of bad grammar and an employment of inelegant expressions. These mannerisms, combined with other offenses, led to the book garnering a trashy reputation in the eyes of the censors, who quickly banned it from their library. however, to view these mannerisms as trashy and nothing more would be to misunderstand a large portion of the novel s appeal. In the 19th century biologist came up with the three different categories that groups the three human races: Mongoloid, Causasoid and Negroid. They belived that different races where charaterized by biological makeup. But modern sciences have proved that theory to be wrong because there is no such thing as a pure race. Access control is seen as the fundamental mechanism put in place to help make information security successful. Access control feature, in a particular system, will control how users can communicate, access and modify system resources and programs. Access control was described in this chapter as a very useful tool for the computer information security because it helps with ensuring that unauthorized person or program have no access to what they are not supposed to. Access control is regarded as the first line of defense to control, protect and monitor organization s resource s availability, confidentiality and integrity. Furthermore, this chapter illustrates how users can be granted access to network resources. It explained that for a user to be allowed access to a network he must satisfy the condition of identification and authentication. The identification part could be something of user ID, name or account number. • 29. South Asia And Australia Essay Every country in our world today shares some sort of relationship with another country. Whether it s peaceful, aggressive, wanted or unwanted, each place shares a link with another. • 30. The Thought and Influence of Voltaire Essay The Thought and Influence of Voltaire I The legacy of François Marie Arouet, or Voltaire is not only a vast collection of writings, but also a world that has been radically and directly affected by these works and the activities of their author. While Voltaire did not create many of the ideas he professed, his success at disseminating these is unparalleled. He summed up with the most panache of anyone of his day the central issues of the Enlightenment, and rallied with the greatest fervour to see his beliefs tangibly realised. This paper will focus on Voltaire s stances on vital issues, their weight versus the ideas and practices against which they are reactions, and their influence on both 18th century Europe and the modern West. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cosmology Like many of the philosophes, Voltaire was a deist. He believed that, although God was not one to intervene in earthly affairs, such an entity did exist. The scientific revolution had demonstrated that the universe operated according to rational mechanics. Therefore, resembling a machine, it must have an engineer behind it.5[5] While deist theories about space and time are muddled and confusing for those of us who take modern science for granted (particularly in their dependence on the concept of God),6[6] their nascent determinism is very familiar in this age where behaviourism is so popular. Mired in Newtonian causality, Voltaire (echoing John Locke) believed that action is the effect of which the will is the cause. The cause of the will is the effect of environment. The environment is part of the clockwork universe made and wound by God.7[7] While this theory brings environment into the discussion of development of personality, it makes people into passive receptacles and cogs in machines.8[8] Voltaire s belief in God was partly pragmatic. He recognised the difficulty of maintaining an ethical system without rewards and punishments. The Christian tradition had so long used heaven and hell as motivational factors that it was hard by the 18th century to imagine morality for its own sake. While just laws would ensure just actions by the general population, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Doll House A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, is a play that follows Nora Helmer and her husband Torvald Helmer through the holiday season and the fall of their marriage. Within the two acts there are many figurative language devices used to help further the story along, however, there are a few in specific that stand out. The play s foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony all contribute the most to the play s overall development of Nora s self affirmation. Foreshadowing in A Doll House is present from the beginning of the story. Much of which is not noticeable until later events. In the beginning of Act 1 Nora hides her macaroons from Torvald, HELMER: Hasn t Miss Sweet Tooth been breaking rules in town today? ... taken a bite at a macaroon or two? NORA: No, Torvald. (Ibsen, 1657). Although it is minor in nature, it reveals Nora s character of being rebellious despite Torvald s wishes. The effect this characterization has on the story is that she is not the obeying wife that many were in the Victorian Era. Through this foreshadowing the reader can begin to identify the conflicts of Nora and Torvald s relationship that get developed on as the play progresses. Another example of foreshadowing is in Act 2 when Nora is getting ready to leave out to town, when she engages in a conversation with Anne Marie about the children asking, Do they ask for me much? . To which Anne Marie responds, They re so used to having Mama around, you know. . This is important because Nora replies with, Yes, but Anne Marie, I can t be together with them as much as I was. (Ibsen, 1675). This hints towards Nora abandoning her role as a mother, which in the end occurs when she leaves Torvald to find herself and become independent. The foreshadowing throughout the play contributed to the dramatic ending. Symbolism in A Doll House is another key element in the development of the play. The setting of the play was during Christmas Eve throughout December 26th. Typically, this is the ending of the year and represents family being together. However, as the play progresses, the optimistic outlook on Christmas that is expected changes. In the opening description of the setting in Act 1 Nora tells Helene, Hide the tree well... Why did this plant still have the stigma of being illegal when it does not cause any deaths, is not nearly as physically addicting, nor as harmful as its legal counterparts? Clearly, the law of marijuana prohibition is one that is up for debate and one that is up for change. Currently, many state laws have been passed that are either decriminalizing marijuana or allowing it for purely medicinal purposes. Although these laws are moving towards legalization, they do not come close to the actual goal. The government should learn to embrace these people s ability to choose rather than prohibiting this source of intoxication which, despite its illegality, is already prevalent in society. Allen St. Pierre, the Director of NORML (National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws) states that since 1965, nearly 20 million citizens have been arrested in the United States on cannabis related charges. More astonishingly, nine out of ten of these charges are for mere cannabis possession. Such arrests are so frequent that almost everyone I have come in contact with has a friend or family member affected by these petty laws. Even with new decriminalization laws, in nearly every state, a person who commits a marijuana offense and fully serves his or her sentence (or successfully completes probation) is nonetheless subject to continuing and long lasting professional debilitation, barriers to family life, and limits on civic participation (Pierre). The Canadian Justice System And Capital Punishment On December 11th, 1962 an important event occurred, an event that would change the Canadian justice system in its views on capital punishment. Both had been accused of committing murder, Lucas for killing an officer while fleeing a robbery and Turpin for murdering an undercover narcotics officer. Both were hanged back to back at midnight and buried side by side with no marking on their graves. Lucas and Turpin were the last to be executed under capital punishment and since then Canada has stopped this practice. Capital punishment has become the subject of debate in Canada of whether it should be reintroduced. But the question is, does Canada really need to re introduce capital punishment? Canada as a country is doing perfectly fine with its justice system and the need for capital punishment seems unnecessary. Capital punishment is expensive to maintain and raises the question of human rights and morals as well as to injustice to those who are innocent who might be wrongfully executed. Although Celie doesn t really understand her identity she still has one. In contrast, in The Handmaids Tale most of the characters aren t even given an identity, they are nameless. No character is represented by their own names, more part of groups such as Handmaid, Wife or Martha. This shows that in this novel the body of women and the functions are more important than their minds and identity. The Morality Of Atticus Finch The Morality of Atticus Finch In recent literary history, perhaps the strongest contender for the one character that has had the greatest influence on a generation is Atticus Finch, father of the protagonist in To Kill A Mockingbird . Both as a father, and a lawyer, he has served, and still today serves as a pillar of righteousness and morality. The ability for his morality to translate to all people, across ages, races, and cultures, is a feat preformed by Harper Lee in her masterpiece, To Kill A Mockingbird . She establishes Atticus Finch as the moral center of the novel by juxtaposing his actions and the relationships with those of the majority of Maycomb. In doing so, she has made him a cultural, and oftentimes personal icon. The relationships established by Atticus Finch with his children, the Ewells, and the rest of the town, including the black community, are a large reason why he is known as the moral center, and why it seems all immoral conflict revolves around him. The reader sees it play out in the plainest terms with his children. He is their father, and they respect him as such, but their respect for him surpasses their paternal relationship with him, demonstrated by how they refer to him as Atticus instead of Father .
