TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE
Transport infrastructure refers to the framework that
supports our transport system. This includes roads, railways,
ports and airports. Because of the intensive use of
infrastructures, the transport sector is an important
component of the economy and a common tool used for
development.

TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE
PROBLEMS
The most common problems of transportation infrastructure
are the:
• Traffic congestion and parking difficulties
• Larger Community
• Public transport inadequacy
• Difficulties for non-motorized transport
• Loss of public space
• High infrastructure maintenance costs
• Environmental impacts and energy consumption
• Accidents and safety
• Land Footprint
• Freight distribution
• Congestion
• Urban Transit challenge
• Broken roads
• The increase in number if trucks and commercial vehicles
which move slowly and as a results in the congestion of
traffic
The road network of Pakistan
• Motorways
• National Highways
• Expressways
• Strategic Roads
• Major Arterial Roads
The different types of
transport systems which
have been done by 2010
with the financing details.
Environmental
•Air Pollution
•Consumption of
land/urban sprawl
•Depletion of ozone
layer
•Global Climate
Change
•Disruption of
ecosystems and
habitats
•Pollution
•Solid Waste
•Visual intrusion and
aesthetics
•Release of toxic/
hazardous
substances
Social
•Accidents
•Declining
community
•Human Health
Impact
•Inequalities
associated with
negative
environmental and
health impacts
•Time wastage
•Visual Pollution
Economical
•Costs of
transportation to
customer/consumers
•Costs related to
accidents
•Transportation
facility costs
•Traffic Congestion
•Transportation
related health costs

CAUSES OF POOR TRANSPORT
INFRASTRUCTURE
EFFECTS OF POOR TRANSPORT
INFRASTRUCTURE
Wasting time of motorists and passengers, as a non-productive activity for
most people, reduces regional economic health are the effects of traffic
congestion.
The environmental pollution can cause an increased risk of heart
attack, wheezing, coughing, and breathing problems, and irritation of
the eyes, nose, and throat.
The safety issues may include the road accidents which have the
adverse effects e.g. pain, death, financial loss, incarceration, night
terrors, anxiety attacks.
The health issues includes the headache long time waiting on road
just due to congestion, any kind of injury due to the poor road
leveling.
The global warming have its effects on any area that are physical and
social. Physical includes effects on weather, cry sphere and on oceans.
Social effects include on food supply, health and on water resources.
If there is poor connectivity between the urban and rural, the connectivity
between the roads there will be less economic growth.
SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVE TRANSPORT
INFRASTRUCTURE
Development of additional road capacity
Parking restrictions
Promoting the bicycle
Encouraging walking
Promote public transport
Shades on pathways for walkability
Making of transport rules and laws
Efficient Vehicles
Park and Ride Concept
