Using a potometer setup, the transpiration rates of plants with and without an applied air current were measured every 3 minutes for 30 minutes. The results showed that the plant exposed to wind had a 68% higher transpiration rate compared to the control plant without wind. This supports the hypothesis that wind increases transpiration by blowing away humid air at the leaf surface and replacing it with drier air, accelerating the evaporation of water from the plant.

Exercise 14 - Cellular Respiration in Yeast
Cellular respiration in yeast was studied using 5 Smith Fermentation tubes containing different reagents. Tube 1 contained glucose and yeast, tube 2 contained just glucose, tube 3 contained boiled yeast and glucose, tube 4 contained starch solution and yeast, and tube 5 contained just yeast. The production of CO2 was observed and measured over 40 minutes. Tube 1, which contained both glucose and live yeast, produced the most CO2, indicating that yeast undergo aerobic respiration in the presence of oxygen and glucose to produce energy. The other tubes produced less or no CO2, demonstrating the importance of both yeast and glucose for cellular respiration.

Internal structure of a leaf
A leaf consists of the following layers from top to bottom: cuticle, upper epidermis, palisade mesophyll, spongy mesophyll, lower epidermis, and pores called stomata. Stomata are pore-like openings found on the underside of leaves that allow gases like carbon dioxide, oxygen, and water vapor to diffuse in and out. They are surrounded by guard cells that open and close to regulate gas exchange and water loss from the leaf. Keeping stomata open all the time would cause excessive water loss, threatening plant survival.

Plant transport
Plant transport systems include xylem and phloem. Xylem transports water and minerals upwards from roots to shoots passively, using no energy. Xylem vessels are located towards the edges of stems to resist bending forces, while located centrally in roots to withstand stretching. Transpiration is the evaporation of water from plant leaves, powered by the transpiration stream which replaces lost water. Transpiration cools plants and transports minerals upwards from roots.
Photosynthesis
The light-dependent reactions convert solar energy to chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH. These products are then used in the light-independent reactions (Calvin cycle) to fix carbon dioxide into sugars. Therefore, the function accomplished by the light-dependent reactions is energy storage. The answer is A.
