TRANSMISSION’S
I will start to discuss all the transmission's, starting from the motor.
I will discuss the different types, some calculations and the usage
of each transmission.
PART 1: MOTOR-PLANING SHAFT (LINE SHAFT)

Conclusion:
The shaft is adjustable to 2
speeds:7410rpm and 2978rpm. The
first is to make (thickness) planing
(A) . The second for deep drilling
operations (B). This last can be used
when an extra piece is mounted on
the table. The high speed is
necessary for a fine planing result.
The slower speed prevents the wood
from becoming black when drilling
long holes.

This transfer includes three subcategories: belt transmission, gear and
chain
transmission.
NOTE: The roles are functional when thicknessing is planed. We use the
previously calculated transmission that delivers us 7410rpm.
a) Belt Transmission from planing shaft
n3 = 7409.75 rpm
Ratio: i = D3/D4 = 25/74 = 0.34
Speed Disk 2: n4= i.n3 = 2503.29rpm
Belt speed: v= π.D4.n4 = 9.7 m/s
Strength: F1=F3
Mb=F3a.s  Mb= 1.93Nm
F3b=Mb/s  F3b= 77.3N

c) Transmission chain (10T) to the feed rollers (16T)
The chain drive ensures synchronously driven feed rolls and that
with a constant speed of 63rpm. They’ve chosen for 16T gears
so the chain could pass just above the planing shaft.
They’ve opted for 16T gears,
in this way, the chain just passes
above the planing shaft.
CALCULATING THE FEED RATE
 With the diameter of the roll, we can calculate the operating speed with
which the timber passes through the blades.
Ø feed rollers: 35mm
revolutions: 63rpm
v = π.D1.n1=3,14*0,035m*63rpm=6.9m/min (=11.5cm/s)
 We can compare the result with a benchmark to see if we are correct:
 Bench: Vlak- en vandiktemachine Robland SD(B) 510
 4 speedrates 5/8/10/16 m/min

  • 9. PART 2: PLANING SHAFT – FEED ROLLERS c) Transmission chain (10T) to the feed rollers (16T) The chain drive ensures synchronously driven feed rolls and that with a constant speed of 63rpm. They’ve chosen for 16T gears so the chain could pass just above the planing shaft. They’ve opted for 16T gears, in this way, the chain just passes above the planing shaft.
  • 10. CALCULATING THE FEED RATE  With the diameter of the roll, we can calculate the operating speed with which the timber passes through the blades.
