2. TRAINED NURSES ASSOCIATION OF INDIA (TNAI)
Trained Nurses Association of India is the national professional association
of nurses. It began as association of superintendants and has its beginning
as “Trained Nurses Association” in 1908. In 1922, the Association of
Nursing Superintendents and Trained Nurses’ Association were
amalgamated and called The Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI).
3. Aims of TNAI
• To establish standards and qualifications for nursing practice
• To upgrade and standardization of nursing education
• To improve living and working conditions for nurses
• To register the qualified nurses and reciprocity of registration within
different states.
4. Objectives of TNAI
• To uphold the dignity and honor of the nursing profession
• To promote high standards of health care to nursing practice
• To advance professional, educational, economic and general welfare of nurses
• To promote a sense of espirit de corps among all nurses
• To enable the members to take counsel together on matter related to nursing
profession and represent their grievances and express their point of view to
concerned quarters in events of problematic situations.
5. Functions of TNAI
• To establish standards and qualifications for nursing practice
• To initiate standards of nursing education
• To establish a code of ethical conduct
• To promote legislation and to speak for nurses in regard to legislative
action
• To promote and protect the economic welfare of the nurses
• To provide professional counseling
• To represent nurses & to serve as their spokesman with allied national
and international agencies
• To serve as the official representative of TNAI as a member of ICN.

• Conducting continuing education programme

7. STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION OF INDIA
The Student Nurses Association (SNA) is the organization of student
nurses in India, which was established in 1929 at the time of the Annual
Conference of the Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI).
8. Objectives of SNA
• To help the students to uphold the dignity and ideals of nursing profession for
which they are qualifying
• To promote a cooperative spirit among students
• To furnish nurses in training with the advice in their course leading to the
qualification
• To aid in overall development of the nursing students
• To encourage optimal achievement in the professional role of the nurse
• To help in participating in educational and other co-curricular activities
• To provide FNSNA (Foundations of National Student Nurses Association)
scholarship, awards and conferences.
