Here is the common diseases which cause many dental problems. It should be know about them because of wide occurrence of these dental diseases in our daily life.
The document provides information on atraumatic restorative treatment (ART). Some key points:
- ART was developed in the 1980s in Tanzania as a minimally invasive approach to dental caries that aims to preserve tooth structure. It uses manual excavation and glass ionomer restoration to avoid anesthesia and expensive equipment.
- ART has several advantages, including being non-invasive and painless, making it highly acceptable to patients. It also releases fluoride and bonds to tooth structure.
- The principles of ART are removing carious lesions using hand instruments only and restoring the cavity with glass ionomer, which bonds to the tooth. This simplifies infection control compared to traditional rotary drills.
-
Ethics is concerned with judging what is right and wrong in human conduct. Dental ethics refers to the moral duties of dentists towards patients, colleagues, and society. Key principles of dental ethics include non-maleficence (do no harm), beneficence (do good), respect for patient autonomy and informed consent, justice, truthfulness, and confidentiality. Unethical practices include using unregistered assistants, falsifying records, improper advertising, and undercharging to solicit patients. Historical events like the Nazi experiments, Tuskegee trials, and Declaration of Helsinki established standards to protect research participants through informed consent and review boards. Adherence to an ethical code is important for maintaining trust in the dental profession.
An overview of the diagnostic process in endodontics, including information about the pain system, referred pain, non-odontogenic pain, the diagnostic process, tests and treatment planning in endodontics.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help boost feelings of calmness, happiness and focus.
This document discusses the epidemiology of periodontal disease. It defines periodontal disease and the periodontium. It describes the epidemiological triad of host factors, agent factors, and environmental factors that influence periodontal disease. Key points include plaque and calculus as the main etiological agents. Host factors like age, sex, race, and systemic diseases can increase risk. Environmental influences include nutrition, geography, urbanization, and stress levels. The conclusion emphasizes that periodontal disease is highly prevalent and prevention is the best solution.

Endodontic emergencies include pain and swelling that can occur before, during, or after root canal treatment. Common causes are pulpal and periapical pathosis or traumatic injury. A flare-up during root canal therapy results from irritants left in the root canal system and causes pain, swelling, or both. Management depends on the specific clinical condition but generally involves re-establishing drainage, debriding and irrigating the root canal, and prescribing medications.

This document provides guidelines for preparing metal-ceramic crown restorations. It describes the indications and contraindications for metal-ceramic crowns as well as their advantages and disadvantages. The preparation involves placing depth grooves, reducing the incisal/occlusal, labial/buccal, and axial surfaces, and finishing the margins. The preparation aims to provide at least 1-2mm of tooth reduction, maintain a continuous 90 degree shoulder, eliminate unsupported enamel, and avoid undercuts.
Space maintainers are appliances used to maintain space or regain minor amounts of space lost after a primary tooth is lost. There are several types of space maintainers including fixed appliances like band and loop, lingual arch, and distal shoe appliances as well as removable partial dentures. Key factors in determining the appropriate space maintainer include the amount of time since tooth loss, dental age of the patient, amount of bone covering the unerupted tooth, and sequence of eruption of surrounding teeth. Space maintainers aim to guide unerupted teeth into proper positions and prevent over-eruption of opposing teeth.
Dental caries is caused by bacteria in dental plaque that produce acids which demineralize tooth structure. The most common bacteria involved are Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacilli. There are several theories for how dental caries progresses, but it is now accepted that acids produced by bacteria lower the pH and cause the enamel and dentin to demineralize. Dental caries can affect the pits and fissures of teeth, smooth surfaces, or root surfaces. It is classified based on location, rate of progression, extent of damage, and other factors. Histologically, dental caries progresses through zones in enamel and dentin as the mineral content is reduced by acid attacks from bacteria.
Tooth resorption can occur internally or externally and is classified based on location and etiology. Internal resorption is caused by damage to the pulp and occurs from within the tooth, appearing radiographically as a smooth, rounded radiolucency within the root canal. External resorption involves loss of cementum and dentin from outside the tooth, and appears as ragged radiolucencies on the root surface, often with accompanying bone loss. Management depends on severity and location of resorption and may include root canal therapy, surgery, or extraction.
This document discusses early childhood caries and nursing caries. It begins with definitions of dental caries and classifications based on anatomic site, severity, progression, and chronology. It then focuses on nursing caries, describing the etiological agents, clinical features, progression, implications, management, and prevention. Nursing caries is distinguished from rampant caries, with nursing caries being a specific form that occurs in infants/toddlers due to improper bottle feeding habits, while rampant caries can occur at any age from multiple factors. The document provides details on diagnosing, treating, and preventing nursing caries.
Is a dental condition that is commonly seen in patients with a completely edentulous maxilla and partially edentulous mandible with preserved anterior teeth
Dental caries, also known as cavities, are caused by bacteria in the mouth that feed on sugars and produce acid, which demineralizes tooth enamel over time. The main bacteria involved are Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus. These bacteria live in dental plaque on the teeth. Factors like frequent sugar consumption, poor oral hygiene, and low saliva flow can promote the growth of these cariogenic bacteria and lead to tooth decay. Other contributors include tooth anatomy, acid erosion, and lack of fluoride exposure.
Dental caries is caused by an imbalance between tooth minerals and biofilm fluids due to acid production from cariogenic bacteria in dental plaque. It begins as demineralization of enamel and progresses to destruction of dentin and pulp if left untreated. Key factors that influence caries development include the cariogenicity of dental biofilm and bacteria like Streptococcus mutans, diet high in fermentable carbohydrates, low salivary flow and buffering capacity, tooth morphology, and prolonged exposure time. Histopathologically, enamel caries shows irregular fissures and intercrystalline spaces widening while dentin caries exhibits tubular sclerosis and liquifaction necrosis.
This document discusses various pulpal diseases, their causes, symptoms and treatment. It covers reversible and irreversible pulpitis caused by physical, chemical and bacterial factors. It also covers chronic hyperplastic pulpitis, characterized by a fleshy pulpal mass filling the pulp chamber. Internal resorption is discussed as an idiopathic resorptive process in the dentin and root canals, often asymptomatic with a history of trauma. Classification schemes and histopathological features of different pulpal conditions are also presented.

This document provides an overview of pulpectomy procedures for primary teeth. It discusses the classification of pulp diseases, causes of pulp involvement, and different techniques for performing pulpectomies. Pulpectomies can be either single-visit or multiple-visit procedures, and involve complete removal of the pulp tissue from both the pulp chamber and root canals, followed by disinfection and obturation of the canals. Successful pulpectomies aim to retain primary teeth as functional components and allow for normal exfoliation and eruption of permanent teeth.
This document discusses dental trauma, including an overview, epidemiology, clinical presentation of dental injuries, defining types of dental injuries, management of dental injuries, outcomes of dental injuries, and prevention of dental injuries. It references several sources on this topic, including textbooks and medical journal articles.
This document provides an overview of abscesses of the periodontium, specifically focusing on periodontal abscesses. It defines a periodontal abscess and classifies them based on location, course, number, affected tissue, and cause. Periodontal abscesses are most prevalent in molar sites and those with pre-existing periodontal pockets. They can be caused by factors like untreated periodontitis, foreign bodies, or changes after periodontal procedures or antibiotics. The pathogenesis involves bacterial entry triggering an inflammatory response that leads to tissue destruction and pus formation.
Dental attrition is a type of tooth wear caused by tooth-to-tooth contact, resulting in loss of tooth tissue, usually starting at the incisal or occlusal surfaces. Tooth wear is a physiological process and is commonly seen as a normal part of aging.

The key to maintaining good oral health is brushing for two minutes twice a day and flossing once a day to prevent cavities and gum disease.
Some studies show that people with gum disease are more likely to have heart disease than those with healthy gums, though gum disease has not been proven to cause other diseases. Maintaining good oral hygiene, like brushing after meals and flossing daily, can help reduce the risk of gum disease and related health problems. Stress, certain medications, and various medical conditions like diabetes, Sjögren's syndrome, and HIV/AIDS can increase the risk of oral health issues by causing dry mouth or weakening the immune system.

The document discusses the history and importance of dentistry. It notes that while dentistry has been practiced since 7000 BC, it was not a professionalized trade until the 1700s. Major advances occurred in the 19th century, making dental care more widely accessible. However, access to dental coverage has declined recently. Untreated oral diseases can have serious health impacts, and regular dental checkups are important to diagnose conditions early. The three most common oral disorders are tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer, all of which can be prevented or treated through proper dental hygiene and professional care.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
