My Experience With Parenting And Home Schooling
The focus of this paper is to talk about my experience with learning about qualitative research
method and design, engaging participants through a research interviewing and obtaining
information about the participants live experiences and transcribing the data (Caswell, 2007).To
interview the participant, I formulated the researchproblem; what is your experience with parenting
and home schooling. I generated research open ended research interview questions for a one and
one interview with the participant. The purpose of the research interview to gain experiences in
collecting and interpreting data through interviewing and to gain an insight into parenting and

What differentiates my social location?
Throughout the research interview, I was aware that it was essential for me to respect the
participant. I was also aware of the power imbalance embedded throught the research process
between myself and the participant, from research topic design to the interpretation of the data and
the need for ethical consideration(Caswell, 2007, Wash, 2007 and Daley, 2007). In addressing the
importance of research ethics, Caswell states we must consider ethical considerations involving our
roles as insiders/outsiders ( Caswell, p.156). Therefore, it was important for me to tell the
participant about her rights to participate in the research interview, the benefits, the potential risk
and the informed consent. For example, before I interviewed the participant, we reviewed the
informed consent and when I asked if she understood it, she reported, I do , that it was straight
forward and that she would definitely participate. Failure to establish and implement ethical
consideration throughout the research process can impact the interview, the data and the
intereptation of the data( Caswell, 2007).It was important for me to be transparent and maintained a
good rapport with the participant.

Austin s Theory Of Speech Act Theory
Austin s Speech Act Theory
In 1994 the philosopher John L. Austin had investigated the various aspects of speech acts. Speech
acts theory is a subfield of pragmatics concerned with the ways in which words can be used not only
to present information but also to carry out actions (http://grammar.about.com/). In other words,
Speech act is function based on the goal of communication. According to Austin, there are three
kinds of speech acts, namely locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. Three of
them have correlation to each other. In order to explain what can go wrong with statements we
cannot just concentrate on the proposition involved as has been done traditionally. We must
consider the total situation in which the utterance is issued the total speech act if we are to see the
parallel between statements and performative utterances, and how each can go wrong. Therefore,
the total speech act in the total speech situation is emerging from logic piecemeal as important in
special cases: and thus we are assimilating the supposed constative utterance to the performative. ...

Human Culture Exploded With The Invention Of Agriculture
Human culture exploded with the invention of agriculture approximately 10,000 years ago in the
Fertile Crescent. For the first time, instead of being largely nomadic, following herds of game
animals through their migrations, humanity could settle down into permanent settlements. For
the first time since the dawn of man, not every waking hour revolved around food. Man finally
had a large amount of leisure time, and energy to spare. This energy went into the creation of
vast cities and temples, great public works of art and engineering marvels. Less than 500 years
after wheat and barley were first grown by humans, we were brewing the first beers, and it was
only up from there (O Neil). In the blink of an eye, empires rose and fell again and again:
Babylon, Egypt, Rome, Greece, and countless more. As these empires grew, they spread out. This
spreading out increased trade and globalization in ways never before heard of. Continents no
longer connected by land became connected by people. Ships were sent off to distant lands and
returned with new plants and animals, many of which became the first invasive species. With no
natural predators in their new environment, these newcomers could quickly destabilize an
ecosystem, and they often did. Muscles clinging to the hulls of ships could become detached in
foreign ports and establish a foothold on the ocean floor, quickly decimating the native marine flora
and fauna. Rats which had stowed away on the hulls of ships would sometimes

Asymmetry In Crabs
On the other hand, symmetry is an ancestral trait and that asymmetry is believed to be a
secondary characteristic developed by an animal organism as a response to stressors in its
environment (McLaughlin, et al., 2004). Symmetry and asymmetry is usually measured among
bilateral characters in an organism such as the bilateral segments in a decapod pereiopods. The
decapod crab Ranina ranina have several bilateral characters such as the spines on its carapace and
the segments comprising its pereiopods. Asymmetry in crabs has been a subject of interest among
evolutionary biologist as it gives the idea as to how a certain character evolve in shape in order to

Asymmetry in decapods has been a focus of an on and off interest as observed by Oppenheimer
(1974) in McLaughlin, et al.,(2004) among carcinologist as decapod asymmetry has been a
focus of importance for nearly a century (Przibram 1905; Emmel 1908), then interest plummeted
and risen again. Asymmetry in abdomen shape between male and female crab have been
observed among Ranina ranina as early as the instar 1 larval stage (Minagawa, 1993) rendering
this character to be sexually dimorphic among these crabs. Posteriorly attached to the carapace,
these structure provides adherence for eggs for ovigerous females. What makes the R. ranina
abdomen unique among crab species is it attachment to the carapace. While in most crabs,
abdomen are folded towards the ventral aspect of the crab, in R. ranina, it is partially extended
away from the ventral aspect that it looks like a tail instead of as an abdomen. The abdomen also
participates in the digging activity of the crab (Faulks, 2006). Asymmetry in pleopods was
observed among paguroids as an offshoot of the type of shells they are inhabiting. Asymmetry in
shapes are often associated with the frequent use of a particular character such as handedness or
constant use (McLaughlin, et

Analysis Of The Raid By Leo Tolstoy
While reading The Raid by Leo Tolstoy, one is instantly struck by the strong contrast between the
peaceful nature scenes and the violent battle scenes. One minute the sounds of crickets and frogs
are charmingly echoing through the night, and the next you can hear the clang of a heavy gun and
the sound of bayonets touching one another (Tolstoy 20). In one scene, the generals and majors
stand watching the gory battle below, yet they continue to discuss the beautiful nature around them
as if nothing else could possibly be worth their attention (Tolstoy 25). However, upon closer
readings, it becomes evident that the warand nature scenes are not as separate as they seem. As the
story progresses, the two begin to weave together, until distinguishing them is nearly impossible.
Indeed, this subtly merger can be seen throughout multiple scenes as the story evolves. From the
start, nature and warare both extremely prominent in the story. But, they are presented separately
from each other. The best example of this is on page thirteen. The sun had done half its journey, and
cast its hot rays through the glowing air onto the dry earth...the motionless air seemed full of
transparent dust, the heat was becoming unbearable (Tolstoy 13). This entire paragraphdescribes the
nature all around the marching soldiers. Then, it is followed by a separate paragraph: Half way on
their march the troops reached a small stream and halted. The soldiers stacked their muskets and
rushed to the

The Impact Of Police Personality And Coping
Impact of Police Personality and Coping on Perceived Job Stress Currently, there is a lack of
research that connects personality and its impact on stress and coping (Lau, Hem, Berg,
Ekeberg, Torgersen, 2006). Research in this area is particularly important for law enforcement
because personality can influence how police interact, react, and cope with stressors (Larsen
Buss, 2002). Clearly, police face a wide array of stressors everyday due to the nature of their job.
According to Violanti and Aron (1994), being a police officer is one of the top three most
stressful occupations one can have. How they deal with that stress can impact the individual
officer, the department, and society itself. Research has shown that many officers use
maladaptive coping skills to deal with these stressors (Patterson, 2003). Although police stress
has been widely researched, most studies do not look at police stress over the different stages of
their careers and through the different officer ranks. Personality, perceived stress, and coping
may change throughout a police officer s career (Jensen, 2009). Knowing at what point in the
officer s career and at what rank the most stress is experienced will also aid in creating a
preemptive plan. Literature Review What is the police personality, how does it form, and how is it
assessed? Larsen and Buss (2002) define personality as, a set of psychological traits within the
individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence

Martin Luther King Jr Influence
For centuries, African Americans and indigenous peoples have been overlooked, discriminated
against, and seen as inferior for one reason: the colour of their skin. Over time, society has
evolved in many ways due to many people s courage and determination, notably Martin Luther
King Jr a Baptist Minister and the leader of multiple civil rights protests and movements. In
Australia, Aboriginal people were granted voting rights before Federation in 1901, but only if they
had served in the army and were over 21. It wasn t until 1962 that all Aboriginal Australians were
allowed to vote. In 1924, all Native Americans were granted the right to vote, regardless of cultural

Martin Luther King Jr. enlightened so many lives. He shifted the world s balance and changed
the way people see. In the modern day, society are more trusting and inclusive of people from
different cultures every day, and King was the spark that lighted that fire of equality. To order
King s most to least successful achievements and attempts, I could not decipher, as his entire
career was a complete success and society would not be where we are today if it weren t for each
accomplishment. But to name all his massive political triumphs in order of their occurrence I can:
King was chosen to head the Montgomery Improvement Association, he became the youngest
recipient of the Spingarn Medal, he became president of a group known as the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference, he led a nonviolent army to protest against discrimination in Albany, he
campaigned to achieve the desegregation of many public facilities in Birmingham, he received a

day march from Selma to the capitol in Montgomery, he organized protests against the city s
discrimination in housing and employment, he inspired and planned the Poor People s Campaign, a

Jeanette Winterson s Story Of A Mother Story
In Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal, Jeanette Winterson reflects on why she had to
become a writer. Winterson s, alternative to not writing her life story would be losing herself in
the narrow mesh of her adoptive mother s story (698): Winterson experiences a power struggle
between her adoptive mother s narrative and her needs to preserve her personal story. Winterson s
mother story is one of severe unhappiness and resentment, or an unlived life as Winterson describes
it (695). Through her adoption, Winterson was thrust into a dysfunctional familyand suffered
extensive abuse at the hands of her angry mother. Winterson alludes the strength she has been
forced to gain in order to survive. In a chaotic and abusive household, she was forced to become
a bare knuckle fighter to endure the pandemonium (696). As Winterson says about her family
dynamic, the one who wins is the one who hits the hardest (696). Winterson s life experiences
portray a struggle to exist as she suggests, she has been fighting alone her whole life without
anything to help her or back her up. Often being forced to fend for herself, thus revealing her need
to preserve her story and prevent it from drowning in the tragic narrative of her mother. While
Winterson s descriptive literary devices paint a picture of the pain and suffering she endured as an
adopted child, the reader may struggle while interpreting the true source of her childhood pain.

A Plan For A University Facilities Project Manager
INTRODUCTION Teams, as discussed this semester, referred to individuals at one firm brought
together to, for example, complete a project, develop a new product, or define a new process.
However, I as a university facilities project manager, have a different sort of team; one consisting of
individuals from different firms brought together to complete a building project. How might the
principles of team building be utilized in my team consisting of end user group (who will occupy
the building), facilities operations staff, architect, and contractor or construction manager?
The construction industry has utilized a concept called partnering on large projects with the goal
of creating a cooperative environment to minimize conflicts which could result in claims or
litigation (GSA 2016). It is hoped to achieve this goal by creating an environment of trust and open
communication among the participants. Caltrans is a strong advocate of partnering; requiring the
process on all projects over $10 million (Caltrans 2013). They have an admirable field guide and
partnering training program. We also have PMI s Project ManagementBook of Knowledge
providing guidance in developing a project management plan (PMP). The PMP documents much of
what is covered in partnering sessions. Yet in reviewing the Caltrans field guide, creating PMPs,
reading partnering articles, and participating in partnering sessions myself; the process is missing
something.

Archetypes In The Bloody Chamber
Very few texts have had as much influence on the theological thought or have indelibly marked
the Western World morals as the story of the earthly paradise of Genesis. Very few female
archetypes have become so engraved in the Western collective unconscious or imagination as that
of Eve, the first woman, the mother of mankind, the temptress, the directly responsible for the Fall
and the destruction of mankind who, therefore, is stigmatized, blamed for it and conceptualized
as inferior to Adam, the man. In this sense, Mary Wollstonecraft s argument that myths such as
the Fall are designed to persuade us that we are naturally inclined to evil seems to be true. This
essay seeks to examine, in the first place, the way in which this thought, with particular reference
to women as the eternal culprit, appears to be deeply rooted in the religious reading of the book of
Genesis, thus laying the foundations for a patriarchal society. Then one can analyse how the writer
Angela Carter, despite including references to this myth in her book The Bloody Chamber,
desacralizes and demystifies this patriarchal view of women by rewriting... Show more content on

The problem with myths, according to Carter, is that they only pretend to explain things and, in
fact, they are actually much more focused on, and only explain, a very small part of the world.
In this case, it is a world in which women are controlled by dominant stories that look as if they
are explaining the world, but are actually deciding how things are meant to be seen. The thing
among myths and the problem of myths is that they uphold a patriarchal view of the world that
dismisses or leaves out the role of women almost entirely: while myths shot down the world, Carter,
with her retelling, opens the world back

Meeting A Hero
Meeting a Hero
It was hot in Oklahoma City. The concert had been terrific. Steven and his dad, Rudy, would never
forget being in the same room as one of the greatest blues musicians of all time. They had heard
rumours that, if you waited around the artist s entrance long enough after a show, Isaac Smith
would eventually allow you to come in and meet him. Steven and Rudy were in no hurry. So, they
decided to wait.
Steven passed the time by checking to make sure his camera was in working order. Rudy wanted an
opportunity to have his picture taken with his hero; Steven wanted to take advantage of the
opportunity. An hour and a half passed. Just when Steven was about to suggest they give up, the
artist s entrance door opened. A large man in a black suit announced, Mr. Smith will see you now.
The corridor to the dressing room was barely wide enough to accommodate one person standing in
the middle. The security guard instructed the group to form a single file line against one wall.
We can only let in two at a time. The room is small, he said. Steven s heart sank. He was fourth in
line and Dad was fifth. They wouldn t be able to get in at the same time and Dad wouldn t get his
photo. That s when the man standing third in line said, He s going to see all of us. Take my spot
and then you and your dad can go in together. It was a huge relief.

room. In front of their eyes was Isaac Smith

Alternative Dispute Resolution And Some Of Its Processes
Along the years, conflicts have become inevitable in our day to day activities. In resolving a
dispute, several factors have to be considered. Factors such as the nature of the conflict, the role of
the parties resolving the dispute, the rights and interests of the parties and the procedures used to
resolve the dispute. The court system is an unpleasant means of dispute resolutionwhen it comes to
civil or domestic issues. When resolving such issues, alternative means should be consulted. The
first part of this paper will look at Alternative Dispute Resolutionand some of its processes, and the
public availability and voluntary nature of alternative dispute resolution in reference to the Article
6(1) of the European Convention on Human Rights. The second part of this paper, however, would
try to advise a client using alternative means to effectively resolve the dispute in question.
Part A
Alternative Dispute Resolution also known as ADR is a dispute resolving mechanism that was
introduced under the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 in order to provide a cost effective and
less time consuming alternative method for individuals to resolve their dispute. This mechanism
includes any method of resolving a dispute in place of litigation going to court. ADR is a great
substitute for litigation as the high cost of litigation would not be affordable for individuals with
low income. Nevertheless, ADR is not a panacea, nor is it cost free. With the Civil Justice reforms,

Goodfellas Film Analysis
Based on a true story, Goodfellas is arguably one of the best gangster movies made. The 1990 s
film is about a man named Henry who grows up in the mob. It tells the ups and downs of not only
his story, but what it takes to be in a mob. Many mob styled movies focus on one thing only, the
murder. While Goodfellasis based around murder, there is much more to it. You are shown what
it does to people, how it corrupts families and changes people s outlook on life. You are shown
the betrayal of people you call family . This is what makes Goodfellas one of the greatest mob
movies ever made. Films need something to keep the viewers interested or they will not be

There could be a great screenplay and a great director, but if the right people are not casted, the
whole movie can flop. Ellen Lewis, the casting director for Goodfellas, did an amazing job. When
you have a lineup consisting of Ray Liotta , Joe Pesci (Tommy) and the great, Robert De Niro
(Jimmy), you have something special. The chemistry between the three is something you do
not just find anywhere. The bond between their characters is very believable and the transition
into their dark times comes naturally. When things get tough for the three, relationships are
tested and things go downhill at a rapid velocity. Being in a mob, you have to be careful who
you mess with and when one of these men whacks the wrong guy, things go from bad to worse.
The directing of the story makes it easy to understand and puts everything into place. The
transition from the good times to the bad is outlined with the heartfelt narration of Henry and a
great soundtrack . As Roger Ebert says in his review, He [Scorsese] doesn t simply compile a
soundtrack of golden oldies; he finds the precise sound to underline every moment, and in
GoodFellas, the popular music helps to explain the transition from the early days when Henry
sells stolen cigarettes to guys at a factory gate, through to the frenetic later days when he s selling
cocaine in disobedience of Paul Cicero s orders, and using so much of it himself that life has
become a paranoid labyrinth. I completely agree. The use of asynchronous sound is vital in a film
like this and Scorsese (along with the editor, Thelma Schoonmaker) delivers everything needed to
make this an amazing

Honky by Dalton Conley Essay
Growing up in the projects in hard enough as it is, but throw in the fact that you are a white kid,
and you have an idea of what Dalton Conley has had to grow up with. Now a successful
sociologist, Dalton Conley explains in his book, the trials and tribulations he had to face in order
to survive in the projects and his battle with race. Conley had more exposure to the idea of race
than most children, growing up one of the only white kids in New York public housing projects
populated by Black and Puerto Rican families. His parents were artists, whose low income and
desire to break societal molds led them to apply for housing in the then fairly new projects. As
most children are, Conley was at first fairly oblivious to race, a fact... Show more content on

When his sister Alexandra got involved with drugs, she was able to escape unscathed and go on
to college, while a non white friend ended up serving 25 years in prison after a drug raid.
These references show that just because a person may not seem to fit in a certain environment, or
are just to poor to do anything about it, doesn t mean they have to settle with this concept.
Triumphing over obstacles such as race and economic position are some of the ideas the author is
able to throw out and try to inspire people. Don t settle with something mediocre, when a person is
capable of so much more. This is a theme that seems to sustain through out the entire book.
It almost seems as though the author is glad to have had to grow up in such diverse conditions.
People may read this book and think, the guy really had it rough , but if anything he seems to
have benefited from it. Through his experiences, Conley is able to take with him, a small but
vital idea of unity. If he was able to adapt and coexist in a environment not suited for him, it will
give a lot of hope for a lot of people.
Because this book is about race, people seem to forget how amusing this book can really be. One
line that seems to stick out is when one of the children comments to Conley about his mother and a
wedding dress. Your mom s so white she went to her

Benefits Of Effective Teams Within Healthcare
Introduction
It is critical for employees in the healthcare industry to work collaboratively across disciplines to
meet the needs of patients. Fewster Thuente (2015) state that ineffective collaboration between
providers and nurses account for roughly 70% of major medical errors. Therefore, it is critical for
disciplines to work collaboratively to prevent fragmentation of care and provide positive patient
outcomes (Fewster Thuente, 2015; Havens, Vasey, Gittell Lin, 2010). Buchbinder and Shanks
(2012) state that the benefits of effective teams within healthcare include coordination of care,
efficient use of healthcare services, increased productivity, increased trust among team members,
increased job satisfaction, and higher patient satisfaction.
Ezziane et al. (2012) described five core components of teamwork that include team leadership,
mutual performance monitoring, backup behavior, adaptability, and team orientation. High
performing teams use these elements to develop a culture for speaking up, and situational
awareness among team members. Situational awareness refers to a person s perception and
understanding of their dynamic environment, and human errors often result from a lack of such
awareness (Ezziane et al., 2012). These teamwork constructs provide the foundational basis for
understanding how hospitals can identify teamwork challenges, assess team performance, and
design effective interventions.
Benefits of teams include sharing different ideas and

GREENLIGHT
The project objective was quality monitoring costs reduction while at the same time improving the
quality of the product. The improvements in quality control processes were focused along with
reducing the number of samples. The plan consisted of three distinct elements:
1. Statistical process control would be adapted as processes in control and capable of producing
within specifications would produce more consistent quality.
2. Production operators would be given the process control tools that the process engineering
technicians had been using and in conjunction with sampling would be expected to make
disposition decisions themselves.
3. Quality control auditors would concentrate on training operators and operationalizing
specifications on their new products.
The statistical process control system involving both acceptance sampling and automated process
control was to be implemented. SPC involved testing for productions within a pre specified range.
If the production went beyond the range, the production process had to be shut down maintenance
was to be called to perform maintenance and recalibration. As a part of the process, the operators
were to take six random measurements of a process characteristic during the course of their shift
and then plot the mean measured value.

countries which are the United Statesand Saudi Arabia. we can compare and contrast both cities in

Blood Diamond both depict how it was living in Sierra Leone, Africa during the Civil War in the

for many years, Blood Diamond focuses mainly on how the country is torn apart by the struggle

the RUF gained support, by forcing people to become their soldiers and workers and killing any

followers by taking in men and boys displaced by the war and looking for a place to live and for

Inner Journey Cosi
Inner Journey Assessment William F Buckley quoted If all difficulties were known at the outset of
a long journey most of us would never start at all . This quote relates to journeys, specifically to
inner journeys with the intention that many journeys are difficult and if individuals knew how
difficult the journey was going to be, then most of us would not even commence the journey. A
journey is simply a movement from one place to another. Physical journeys are gateways to inner
journeys, which is a journey of the mind and spirit. Inner journeys take place when an individual
experiences events or is involved in relationships that act as a catalyst to gain greater understanding
about themselves and the world. Inner journeys can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metaphor transfers the journey from a physical one. The persona is confronted with the
choice of two roads, both fairly similar two roads diverged in a yellow wood , and must decide
which one he wants to travel. This is similar to Lewis s situation where he has to decide between
politics, and true love and fidelity and which is more important. The persona, with ultimately
choosing the one that was grassy and wanted wear and the one less travelled by . He wanted to
break away from the norm and experience something new. This road may be more rewarding
despite the fact it presents more challenges. The inner journey is depicted through the use of
language techniques such as, extended metaphor, first person pronoun, repetition and symbolism.
The use of first person pronoun I shows that it is a personal journey where choices need to be
made. The repetition of I in the last stanza highlights the speaker s solitude and that he is proud
of the choice he has made and I I took the one less travelled by , also emphasises that we are
responsible for our own decisions on our own journey. It helps the audience connect to the poem
and inturn reflect on their own inner journey experiences. Frost uses symbolism in the word in the
first line of the first stanza in yellow of the wood. This symbolises the season autumn and the
autumnal time in ones life where time is running out and decisions need to be made, this

The Great Gatsby Soundtrack Analysis
The soundtrack made the film The Great Gatsby such a huge success. The artists were specially
chosen by the producer Anton Monsted to compliment the novel. The artists integrated the
intense emotional feelings described in the book as well as direct quotations into their songs.
This helps the music better fit the novel. It also blends genres such as today s hip hop and 1920
s Jazz in an incredible way. The soundtrack was beautiful and flattered the movie while
incorporating the books themes and imagery. Interviews were later given to discuss the
filmmaking and production of the soundtrack, which gave background to the reasoning behind
the music. Along with this were critical reviews as well. In a review by Brendan Dempsey the
soundtrack and specifically the song No Church in the Wild was analyzed. In an explanation
behind some of the lines Dempsey begins to say, Rolling in a Rolls Royce Corniche: Gatsby s
yellow Rolls convertible is a key symbol in the story. (Dempsey) This obvious connection between
the song lyrics and the novel is undeniable. Cocaine seats/All white like I got the whole thing
bleached/Drug dealer chic (Jay Z, Kanye West) The drug references and involvement in drug
dealing is relative to Gatsby s past. He goes to say in the novel Oh, I ve been in several things,
he corrected himself. I was in the drug business and then I was in the oil business. But I m not in
either one now. It is easy to see that Jay Zand Kanye West wrote this song based off the
descriptions from the novel. (Fitzgerald) Another line from the song that concerns the characters
in the novel is I live by you, desire/I stand by you, walk through the fire/Your love, is my scripture
This shows the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy. We are sure of this relationship in the novel
because of descriptions such as the following:
It was a strange coincidence, I said.
But it wasn t a coincidence at all.
Why not?
Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay.
Then it had not been just the stars to which he had aspired on that June night. He came alive to me,
delivered suddenly from the womb of his purposeless splendor.
He wants to know, continued Jordan, if you ll invite Daisy to your

It was his last work and is considered to be his masterpiece. It was first produced on January 17,
1904 by the Moscow Arts Theater, on the twenty fifth anniversary of his career. The Cherry
Orchard then was established as a classic in the 1950?s. It was recognized as a new type of drama
due to the controversy of whether it was a comedy or drama.
Anton Chekhov conceived The Cherry Orchard as a comedy but had trouble persuading people it
was not a drama. The play fulfills all the conventional requirements of a classical and of a realist
drama. It aligns the action with time, from hopeful spring to despairing autumn. It has a crux to
the plot that remains unresolved until the end of the third act Will the estate be sold or saved? It
has couples who seem destined to be married, servants who fail to serve a heroine with both
grave flaws and charisma. The Cherry Orchard can be read in many ways, as a conflict between
hope and despair, between conflicting illusions, or nature and mankind. Above all, it can be read as
an evocation of honest pessimism about the outcome of all these conflicts, with only a glimmer of
hope and no false consolations. This idea is seen throughout the views of the major characters.

In the modern era, travel and tourism industries seem to go beyond the mere need of attracting
sizable visitors by incorporating macroeconomic and non customary variables to earn monetary and
non monetary benefits. Cost is an important aspect of growth and profitability in an organization.
Organizations lose money because of heavy costs and they require decreasing the cost for better
profits. Sale and cost has direct relation because as the sales volume increases, total cost of the
entire production also increases. However, at the same time, as the quantity of sales increases, cost
of production decreases so as to achieve economies of scale. In addition, the assignment elaborated
three key pricing strategies including rack rate, seasonal pricing and Last minute pricing that
seemed appropriate for WHG. Moreover, management accounting information is a process through
which an organization forecasts to improve business decision making. Management accounting
information helps to advice the business ways of moving forward, for example, whether an

Throughout the epic tales described in J.R.R. Tolkien s Lord of the Rings, as well as in The
Hobbit and The Silmarillion, philology and language prove to be important aspects of creating a
fictional universe of which has become irrevocably interlaced with mainstream culture. This is
significant as Tolkien s works are one of very few literary ventures that has been successful at
applying a realness to the fictional imaginative eloquently enough to appeal and resonate so
deeply within popular culture, similar only to that of J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and George

Tolkien s literary works have been shaped by a genuine interest in creating a realistic fictional
phenomena. According to Tolkien s biography, by a young age he had mastered the Latin and
Greek which was the staple fare of an arts education at that time, and was becoming more than
competent in a number of other languages, both modern and ancient, notably Gothic, and later
Finnish, and began creating languages purely for fun (David Doughan MBE). It seems that
Tolkien s early interest stemmed from watching coal trucks going to and from South Wales
bearing destinations like Nantyglo , Penrhiwceiber and Senghenydd from his home in King s
Heath (David Doughan MBE). In fact, it was Tolkien s early interest in linguistics which caused
him to embark on the challenge of creating a world for his artificial languages, making them the
most prevalent aspects of his works. Tolkien, whom studied linguistics before eventually
becoming an author, wrote in one of his letters, now known as letter 205, that The invention of
languages is the foundation. The stories were made rather to provide a world for the languages
than the reverse. [. . .] It is to me, anyway, largely an essay in linguistic aesthetic , as I sometimes

technique used by organizations to protect their computer systems from security threats is
encryption this is a method used by organizations to send data to others it works by using special
mathematical algorithms to convert the data into scrambled code before transmission and when
the data is received it is decoded when an authorized user accesses it. In my opinion, this is very
effective because it stops people from being able to read or use data if they intercepted it as the is

Anti virus software and Antispyware Software works by identifying suspicious software based on a
list of known threats it then checks the computer against that list and tells the user if it finds
anything on its list. In my opinion, Anti virus software and Anti Spyware Software is very
effective because it stops malicious software getting onto a computer which could steal or leak
sensitive company data. One security technique is protecting systems with usernames and
passwords to access any equipment, wireless networks and sensitive data should be guarded
with unique usernames and passwords for each member of staff, this is for two reasons it is an
added layer of security so if someone hacks in they have to get passed the password and it also
allows companies to see what exactly their employees are accessing, also the passwords that are
used should be very strong so the passwords should include numbers, letters and symbols and not
have standard dictionary terms or dates such as birthdays which are easy to guess. In my
opinion, usernames and passwords are very effective because it makes it harder for hackers to
hack in and it allows companies to keep an eye on employees for example they will be able to
see what files they are accessing and if they are a risk to the company. One more security technique
is keeping sensitive data out of the cloud, Cloud computing offers businesses many benefits like

Why Pro Choice is the Right Choice
With the evolving moral standards of society, abortions are becoming more and more justified.
Abortions, the practice of removing a fertilized egg from a mother, has become a controversial
issue in American society, but should be generally supported because women should have the
choice on how they choose their eggs to go on, whether it be to end further growth of the fetus or
not. Women have a right to control what happens in and with their body.
Being a pro choice defender means taking sympathies to this woman while she then gets called a
murderer by pro life supporters. Abortions sometimes results in the woman being harassed because

Google Is Not A Conventional Company
As Sergey and I wrote in the original founders letter 11 years ago, Google is not a conventional
company. We do not intend to become one. As part of that, we also said that you could expect us
to make smaller bets in areas that might seem very speculative or even strange when compared to
our current businesses. From the start, we ve always strived to do more, and to do important and
meaningful things with the resources we have.
We did a lot of things that seemed crazy at the time. Many of those crazy things now have over a
billion users, like Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and Android. And we haven t stopped there.
We are still trying to do things other people think are crazy but we are super excited about.
We ve long believed that over time companies tend to get comfortable doing the same thing, just
making incremental changes. But in the technology industry, where revolutionary ideas drive the
next big growth areas, you need to be a bit uncomfortable to stay relevant.
Our company is operating well today, but we think we can make it cleaner and more accountable.
So we are creating a new company, called Alphabet. I am really excited to be running Alphabet as
CEO with help from my capable partner, Sergey, as President.
What is Alphabet? Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is
Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of

Examples Of Stoism In The Movie Gladiator
This is because Stoicism teaches us that, before we try to control events, we must control
ourselves first. Our attempts to exert influence on the world are subject to chance, disappointment,
and failure but control of the self is the only kind that can succeed 100% of the time. Leaders
have found that a Stoic attitude earns them respect in the face of failure, and guards against
arrogance in the face of success. In the movie Gladiator we see this tactic from Maximus Decimus
Meridius who shows stoic qualities demonstrated by prominent followers of the Ancient Greek
principle. Although he is a Roman citizen and should not, under the Roman laws, be a slave,

The first step in preparing the ester involved placing 10mL of an alcohol, 1 butanol, and 10mL
of an carboxylic acid, ethanoic acid, in a 50mL pear shaped flask in the staff fume hood. An
alcohol and carboxylic acid was added together as they undergo an oxidation reaction together that
produces an ester as a result, in this case, 1 butyl ethanoate. After this, the teacher added 1mL of
concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4) into the pear shaped flask to be used as a catalyst to increase
the rate of reaction between the two reactions, 1 butanol and ethanoic acid. The sulphuric acid acts
as a catalyst by lowering the activation energy of the reactants, and therefore, providing an

A distillation apparatus was then set up. This distillation apparatus was used to help separate the
ester, to hopefully obtain a pure ester as a distillate. The ester was distilled by heating the pear
shaped with a Bunsen burner. However, before beginning the boiling of the ester, a mercury
thermometer was placed in the fractioning column. The bulb of the thermometer was levelled with
the intake to the condenser so that it was ensured that the temperature recorded was that of the ester
vapour that was condensed in the condenser and not the fractioning column. This was important as
the temperature of the vapour that was being condensed in the condenser represented the boiling
point of the ester, which had to be recorded to obtain a distillation range. Using a 10mL measuring
cylinder, the volume of the collected ester distillate was measured and recorded to determine the
yield. The clarity, appearance, and odour of the ester were then noted to help determine how pure

Human Experimentation
TOPIC #4: Human Experimentation PRO: Prisoners should be allowed to participate in human
research CON: Prisoners should not be allowed to participate in human research History and
definitions Dating back to 1965, seventy five prisoners at Holmesburg prison in Pennsylvania were
purposely exposed to a poisonous agent. This study was conducted to determine the effects of
dioxin, a potentially harmful substance. Dermatologist Dr. Albert Kligman, exposed prisoners to a
dosage 468 times greater than the required dosage for the experiment. All evidence has been
destroyed; however, participants are still experiencing dermatologic issues. As a result of research
and experiments like these conducted in prisons, the Department of Health,... Show more content on

(p. 11) Prisoners have a constitutional right to exercise their autonomous choice to participate in
such trials. Although autonomy is limited due to incarceration, it should be expressed if the
opportunity is presented. Going beyond constitutional rights, the contemporary code of decency
suggests that if there is a chance that prisoners with life threatening diseases, can be alleviated of
pain or have death delayed through therapeutic treatment, than decency should be upheld
(Pacquerella, 2002). Because of research done in the past, where ethical questions arose, there are
rules and guidelines in place to prevent the abuse of prisoners. Advocates say that, in certain
instances where the risks for general participants are equivalent to those of prisoner participants,
and the risks were approved and accepted by general participants then prisoners should not be
restricted in order to protect them from abuse (Pacquerella, 2002). Prisoners should not be allowed
to participate in human research argument. Generally, research participants are offered incentives as
compensation for their time. In a correctional facility incentives may include, cash, more suitable
living quarters and a reduced sentence. The American Medical Association (AMA) claims that such

The Asian Tiger Mom Story
Keep your grades up, son. Ask lots of questions. Get lots of scholarships. These were the kind of
things that I would often hear as a child. My parents were always mindful of my brother s and
my grades, making sure we were working to bring up those pesky A minuses and B s. It seemed
to fit the strict Asian parents stereotype. However, I surely don t have a problem with the way
my parents raised me; they aren t as bad as the Asian Tiger Mom stories I occasionally hear. All
they want is for me and my brother to have a proper education, something that they couldn t
receive. Both of my parents are native to Vietnam, and immigrated to the United States following
the end of the Vietnam War. Neither of my parents attended college

The Scientific Reasoning Behind Seatbelts
Motion is how everything in the universe moves, movement of the solar system never stops and
is constantly moving but at a very slow speed. There are three laws in motion that explain
movement, they are the Newton s three laws of motion named after Isaac Newton. The Newton
s first law states that an object that is a rest will stay at rest unless an outside force is acted upon
it and an object that is in motion will stay in motion unless an outside force is acted upon it. This
is also called as inertia , which means the property of an object to restrict its motion. Examples
of inertia would be when a car is driving at a constant speed and instantly stops the person will
fall forward if there is no seatbelt. The seatbelt is a safety device that is commonly found on car
seats and aircraft seats, it is made from strong durable materials such as fabric, nylon or
polyester. Cars that are manufactured are required to have seatbelts due to road safety laws. The
law was introduced in the 1970s, it was shown that having seatbelts reduced the amount of road
deaths. The seatbelt was invented by George Cayley in the 1800 s, the seatbelt appeared on
planes in the 1900 s but was later developed to a three point seatbelt by Nils Bohlin. The purpose
of seatbelts is to save lives during a sudden stop of movement. The seatbelt was designed to
restrain the person from forward motion that may occur in a collision or a sudden stop. Wearing a
seatbelt is the simplest way to reduce death or

World War I Predicted as the War to End all Wars
With the end of Great War in 1918, the world struggled to form a structure of peace that would
avoid another world conflagration. It was anticipated that World War I would be the war to end
all wars. President Woodrow Wilson was the primary leader to achieve this goal with his 14 Points
making and keeping the peace in the world. Albeit the Treaty of Versailles
amalgamated many of
Wilson s points, it struggled to be ratified in the Senate. The defeat of the Treaty of Versailles was
largely due to the Senate and popular opposition of the treaty.
Some might argue that President Wilson s actions and mindset was moderately to blame for the
failure of the Treaty of Versailles to persuade the Senate. After all, President Woodrow Wilson
refused to take any Republican Senators with him to the Paris Peace Conference. Additionally,
President Wilson held strong unwillingness to compromise during his whirlwind tour throughout
the nation to gain support for the treaty, until when he suffered a stroke and collapsed from the
public view. However, these mistakes of Wilson seem very miniscule when compared to the
immense impact the opposition of the public and the Senate had on the defeat of the Treaty of
Versailles.
Still previous to his downfall, President Wilson s assertions that the Founding Father envisioned
America as the light of the world created to lead the world and protect rights of people and free
nations (Doc. F). On the other hand, this contradicts the American institution

Essay on Descartes Mind and Body
Descartes has a very distinct thought when thinking about the mind, and how it relates to the body,
or more specifically then brain. He seems to want to explain that the mind in itself is independent
from the body. A body is merely a physical entity that could be proven to be true scientifically and
also can be proven through the senses. Such things are not possible with the meta physical mind
because it is independent of the body. Building on his previous premises, Descartes finally proves
whether material things exist or not and determines whether his mind and body are separate from
each other or not. In Meditation Six, Descartes lays the foundation for dualism which has become
one of the most important arguments in philosophy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my eyes this does not cancel out that God is real, because it is possible that at first God
created everything with good intentions, and left individuals to live and react to certain situations
their own ways. He then begins to address the problem of imagination. If he realizes that things
are around him, that rules out the possibility that he is imagining such entities. He says that
imagination is not essential to his existing, so he removes himself from these thoughts. After
seeing this, he then attempts to see if the body truly does exist. He explains the beliefs he has
about the outside world. He understands his body and such experiences it goes though, and
through that he realizes that they must be present, and if they were not it would be impossible for
him to feel them. He distinguishes the body from other things because the body must always be
present, while other things could be merely different feelings. He here uses premises that he
developed in Meditations three and four to help state that mind and body both exist, but separately.
He says that his mind is different from his body, so therefore it must be separate from it. He then
comes back to his Truth Rule from Meditation Four. Every judgment that I make concerning
matters that are clear and distinct to me is most assuredly true. He says that god has made him
think that his mind and body at distinctly separate, so they must be. He argues that his body and
mind are

Nursing Peer Review Committee
Peer review is the assessment of nursing services, the quality of patient care provided by nurses,
the benefits of a complaint concerning a nurse or a nursing care, and a purpose regarding a
complaint. The nursing review committee is a process in which fact finding, analysis and study of
events by nurses in a climate of mutual problem solving focused on obtaining all relevant
information about an event. Section 303.0015(c) requires that nursing peer reviewcommittee that
conducts a peer review involves professional nursing must have two thirds of its members as RN
and may have only RN s as voting members.
Incident based peer (IBPR) review occurs when a hospital receives a complaint regarding a nurse s
conduct or hospital has concerns about a nurse s qualifications or the quality of patient care
rendered by the nurse. During IBPR the nursing peer review committee must determine whether a
nurse s conduct should be reported to the board of nursing. Under the hospital licensing rules, the
Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) requires hospitals to implement a program for
incident based peer review and compliance with the reporting requirements established by the BON.

Gender Roles And Expectations Of Men And Women
Since the last few decades, there has been a trend of shift in roles and expectations of men and
women. The shift was dynamic in the latter half of the twentieth century. World had been made a
great stride in acquiring and adapting to the new definition of gender roles. These changes can be
seen in the fields of education, media, economics as well as many other things. The reason for the
change is a rapid increase in the number of women at workplaces worldwide. Unlikely, this wave
of change is not limited to developing countries. Initiated from the west; it is spreading all over
the world. Gender roles can be described as the attitudes and behaviours expected of male and
female members of a society by itself. Gender roles vary a lot. Different cultures impose different
expectations upon the different genders of that culture. Older generations have historically held
more traditional views on gender than young people and that is fortunate!
From the past 50 years the world has experienced tremendous upheaval and revising of its
traditions. The factors affecting the changes in gender role can be the carrier paths, education,
marriage and upbringing of children. These changes in gender roles influence the environment
in homes, offices, schools and eventually the whole society. Firstly, the ideology of gender role
is mostly inherited from the guardians. Children learn from their parents. The way they teach how

Media s Impact On Society And The Individual
Despite there being numerous sources and names for media and information, large conglomerate
companies have emerged over the last several decades that own a majority of media outlets in the
United States and throughout the world. These conglomerates operate in an assortment of business
opportunities. The big six as they are commonly referred, own up to 90% of the American media
market share (Lutz), and that number is growing. The big six companies include G.E., News
Corporation, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, and CBS. To demonstrate this growth of consolidation,
that same 90% of the American media was owned by fifty independent companies in 1983 (Lutz).
These figures are outstanding, as they relate and intersect with Stuart Hall s idea of... Show more

For example, the conglomerate Comcast corporation is a cable television provider, internet
service provider, phone service provider, the owner of various broadcast stations like NBC and
the Spanish network Telemundo, the owner of film networks like Universal pictures, and the
owner of internet sites like Hulu and Fandango. Comcast even owns the Universal Studios theme
parks and a professional hockey team, the Philadelphia Flyers. This is just a short list of the
various businesses and services that a conglomerate, like Comcast, may own. As of 2017, Comcast
reported a whopping $146 billion dollar market cap (Selyukh). By further understanding these
motives, one is able to realize the role that media plays in their daily lives and the influence that
they may have that extends outside the television broadcast.
The power that these conglomerates hold may cause given information and facts to be distorted,
possibly in order to better benefit themselves and their own corporate interests. This information
highlights Hall s ideal of how knowledge and power intersect. Hall brings up the idea of how there
is this Gap of representation, a figurative gap between the actual facts and how the media represent
it (Hall). This gap between representation and the true facts must be measured by the individual,
when he or she may think something is reported inaccurately or in a biased mannered. In order to
understand this gap that may be presented by

In this book D artagnan is a very strong minded person who knows what he wants and he will get

starts off in this book as a young man in his twenties, and he is not very wealthy. He left Gascony
with a horse, fifteen crowns, and a letter of recommendation. He left so that he could find his
fortune somewhere else and his dream was to become a musketeer and be loyal to the king. D
artagnan is brave, smart, ambitious, and crafty. He is very brave because he is willing to

Bonacieux is introduced into the book by coming to D artagnans s door asking him for help. His

something to do with the kidnapping. The Cardinal is in love with the queen and she does not love
him, but Bonacieux s wife works with the queen and this is the Cardinal s way of getting back at
the queen. He hires this man with the scar to watch his wife and end up kidnapping her, so that
he could get back at the queen for not loving him. In my opinion Bonacieux is a coward. He says
to D artagnan that he has seen this guy following his wife over a period of time, but yet he hasn t
done anything about it. He hasn t tried to get help or get it done himself but he waits until his
wife is kidnapped to do something about it, but even then he goes to ask someone else for help
because he is too scared and too worried about his own life to do it himself. He isn t a man and
he doesn t have a backbone. D artagnan on the other hand does because he is always willing to
help others. So, he agrees to help find his wife and help him out. They both want to help and
they both care, but Bonacieux is not being a man about this. It makes it look like he only cares
about himself and his life rather than his wife. Bonacieux is more worried about his life and what
will happen to him than his wife and what will happen to her. He is still

Molybdenum Essay
Molybdenum is a chemical element with symbol Mo and atomic number 42. The name is from
Neo Latin molybdenum, from Ancient Greek ОњПЊО»П…ОІОґОїП‚ molybdos, meaning lead,
since its ores were confused with lead ores. The mass number is 95.94, number of neutrons is 54,
the electron configuration is [Kr]4dвЃµ5sВ№. Molybdenum is used as glass furnace electrodes due
to its high melting point. It is also used in the petroleum industry, to catalyze the removal of
organic sulfur compounds in coal liquification and gas liquification processes. Molybdenum is an
essential trace element for animals and plants. molybdenum can cause diarrhea, growth
retardation, infertility, low birth weight, and gout; it can also affect the lungs, kidneys, and liver.
The Climax Mine is located approximately 13 miles northeast of Leadville, Colorado and is a
porphyry molybdenum deposit with molybdenite as the primary sulfide mineral. The other major
source of molybdenum is by product from copper mines in the western part of the United States,
Canada, Chile, Mexico and Peru. Molybdenum is a valuable alloying agent, contributing to
quenched and tempered steels ability to harden and toughness. molybdenum has been used as
electrodes for electrically heated glass furnaces and forehearths. As a filament material in electronic
and electrical applications. It is a valuable catalyst for refining petroleum. It is used in certain

Advantages to the Industrial Revolution in Early Modern...
Prior to industrialization, the population of Europe saw a dramatic growth from 110,000,000 to
190,000,000. What triggered this growth? Likely the end of feudalism. The end of feudal contracts
gave people a little more say in their day to day working activities, resulting in more time spent at
home, which ultimately resulted in childbearing. This would leave citizens scrambling both to
provide needs for the populationas a whole, and to improve the individuals overall quality of life.
This resulted in economists, like Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations (1776), examining the most
cost effective method of producing the goods and services citizens demanded (such as clothing and
food). It also left others, such as Thomas Malthus in his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was essential because the population boom that occurred from 1650 1800, where population
climbed from 110,000,000 to 119,000,000, created the need for materials food and clothing to
be produced faster to sustain growth. Machines such as the scribbling mill, and spinning jenny
did the work of a hundred hands, for every single human hand. Initially these machines were met
by workers with despair, as one machine in twelve hours could do the work of ten men by hand .
These machines also reduced labour by a third, which resulted in an increase in wage for
workers and it also worked to increase trade since nations were about to compete with one another
for cheaper resources . From an economic standpoint this shift in labour was beneficial to the
masses because instead of people exerting themselves to compete with other nations, machinery
could just take on the majority of the work, assisting in this movement. This benefitted business
owners because they did not need as many labourers, and they could also afford to lower taxes.
Smith declares the invisible hand as a necessity for society because capitalism drives people to
seek cheaper sources, and in return if you provide that you will ultimately gain wealth.
Adam Smith wrote in The Wealth of Nations that division of labour was the greatest improvement
resulting from the industrial revolution. Division of labour was beneficial to both the employee and
the employer. The

Public Housing Policy in Singapore
1INTRODUCTION
The Singapore public housing policy since its establishment has proved to provide shelter for the
population and has contributed significantly to the economic, social and political development of
Singapore. This policy has been the benchmark for the best public housing by other countries
notably China and Hong Kong (Yang, 2010; Wong, 2011).
The public housing policy implementation has been spearheaded by Housing and Development
Board (HDB) to tackle post war economic problems such as rapid population growth, high
unemployment rate and a critical shortage of sanitary housing (HDB, 2014). The policy was also
aimed to mitigate social problems such as riots and strikes among the different ethnic groups (HDB,
2014).
The success story of public housing policy implementation lies in the higher economic growth and
social stability of Singapore. Economic growth saw 82% of the population live in 879,000 HDB
flats located across 23 towns and estates with home ownership rate at 95% high (Department of
Statistics, 2014). In terms of social stability, the policy implementation has freed Singapore from
race riot since 1969 (Department of Statistics, 2014).
However, rising issues and concerns of ageing population, income disparity and higher housing
price have destabilized Singapore s public housing policy (Population White Paper, 2013). In light
of these challenges, new measures and directions have to be introduced by the Government to keep
public housing policy relevant

finally transmits the data via a physical or wireless medium so that the second CEO receives the

Similarities Between Ancient Egypt And Ancient Athens
A Comparison of Societies in Ancient Egypt and Periclean Athens
Midterm Essay Maureen Cairns
In comparing and contrasting the societies of Periclean Athens and ancient Egypt, we must first
mention some of the characteristics of an actual society: a society has a stable food supply, social
levels and classes, specialization of labor, a system of government, and a highly developed culture.
Both the societies of ancient Athens and Egypt fit into these parameters. In this essay we will
explore social classes, gender relations, social inequality, and hierarchy as they apply to these
societies. Both ancient Athens and Egypt adhered to a strict hierarchical framework, ranking
people as superiors or inferiors. Old Kingdom Egyptian hierarchy is described as having the king
and queen at the top, with priests, administrators, governors and army commanders coming
second, then the commoners who worked mostly in agriculture, and finally, slaves, who had
been captured in war. (Hunt, pg. 22). According to Esolen, (pg. 35), Egyptian society was
structured as such: the Pharaoh came first, and was believed to be God on earth. Next came the
Vizier , who was the pharaohs chief advisor. Nobles were next in the hierarchy, responsible for
making local laws. Priests came next, and were responsible for performing rituals and
ceremonies. Scribes were a very important group, as they were the only ones who could read or
write, so they were the record keepers. A small percentage

Purpose Of A Qualitative Purpose
A purpose statement is one, or a number of sentences providing a summary of the principle
objective of a piece of research (Creswell, p.123, 2014). The role it plays is crucial in every study
regardless of an approach being quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method. It stands as the most
important statement in and entire piece of work, therefore it must be clear, specific, and

Throughout the research interview, I was aware that it was essential for me to respect the participant. I was also aware of the power imbalance embedded throught the research process between myself and the participant, from research topic design to the interpretation of the data and the need for ethical consideration(Caswell, 2007, Wash, 2007 and Daley, 2007). In addressing the importance of research ethics, Caswell states we must consider ethical considerations involving our roles as insiders/outsiders ( Caswell, p.156). Therefore, it was important for me to tell the participant about her rights to participate in the research interview, the benefits, the potential risk and the informed consent. For example, before I interviewed the participant, we reviewed the informed consent and when I asked if she understood it, she reported, I do , that it was straight forward and that she would definitely participate. Failure to establish and implement ethical consideration throughout the research process can impact the interview, the data and the intereptation of the data( Caswell, 2007).It was important for me to be transparent and maintained a good rapport with the participant. • 4. Austin s Theory Of Speech Act Theory Austin s Speech Act Theory In 1994 the philosopher John L. Austin had investigated the various aspects of speech acts. Speech acts theory is a subfield of pragmatics concerned with the ways in which words can be used not only to present information but also to carry out actions (http://grammar.about.com/). In other words, Speech act is function based on the goal of communication. According to Austin, there are three kinds of speech acts, namely locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. Three of them have correlation to each other. In order to explain what can go wrong with statements we cannot just concentrate on the proposition involved as has been done traditionally. We must consider the total situation in which the utterance is issued the total speech act if we are to see the parallel between statements and performative utterances, and how each can go wrong. Therefore, the total speech act in the total speech situation is emerging from logic piecemeal as important in special cases: and thus we are assimilating the supposed constative utterance to the performative. ... • 7. Human Culture Exploded With The Invention Of Agriculture Human culture exploded with the invention of agriculture approximately 10,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent. For the first time, instead of being largely nomadic, following herds of game animals through their migrations, humanity could settle down into permanent settlements. For the first time since the dawn of man, not every waking hour revolved around food. Man finally had a large amount of leisure time, and energy to spare. This energy went into the creation of vast cities and temples, great public works of art and engineering marvels. Less than 500 years after wheat and barley were first grown by humans, we were brewing the first beers, and it was only up from there (O Neil). In the blink of an eye, empires rose and fell again and again: Babylon, Egypt, Rome, Greece, and countless more. As these empires grew, they spread out. This spreading out increased trade and globalization in ways never before heard of. Continents no longer connected by land became connected by people. Ships were sent off to distant lands and returned with new plants and animals, many of which became the first invasive species. With no natural predators in their new environment, these newcomers could quickly destabilize an ecosystem, and they often did. Muscles clinging to the hulls of ships could become detached in foreign ports and establish a foothold on the ocean floor, quickly decimating the native marine flora and fauna. Rats which had stowed away on the hulls of ships would sometimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Asymmetry In Crabs On the other hand, symmetry is an ancestral trait and that asymmetry is believed to be a secondary characteristic developed by an animal organism as a response to stressors in its environment (McLaughlin, et al., 2004). Symmetry and asymmetry is usually measured among bilateral characters in an organism such as the bilateral segments in a decapod pereiopods. The decapod crab Ranina ranina have several bilateral characters such as the spines on its carapace and the segments comprising its pereiopods. Asymmetry in crabs has been a subject of interest among evolutionary biologist as it gives the idea as to how a certain character evolve in shape in order to accommodate genetic and environmental perturbations resulting to the formation of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Asymmetry in decapods has been a focus of an on and off interest as observed by Oppenheimer (1974) in McLaughlin, et al.,(2004) among carcinologist as decapod asymmetry has been a focus of importance for nearly a century (Przibram 1905; Emmel 1908), then interest plummeted and risen again. Asymmetry in abdomen shape between male and female crab have been observed among Ranina ranina as early as the instar 1 larval stage (Minagawa, 1993) rendering this character to be sexually dimorphic among these crabs. Posteriorly attached to the carapace, these structure provides adherence for eggs for ovigerous females. What makes the R. ranina abdomen unique among crab species is it attachment to the carapace. While in most crabs, abdomen are folded towards the ventral aspect of the crab, in R. ranina, it is partially extended away from the ventral aspect that it looks like a tail instead of as an abdomen. The abdomen also participates in the digging activity of the crab (Faulks, 2006). Asymmetry in pleopods was observed among paguroids as an offshoot of the type of shells they are inhabiting. Asymmetry in shapes are often associated with the frequent use of a particular character such as handedness or constant use (McLaughlin, et ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis Of The Raid By Leo Tolstoy While reading The Raid by Leo Tolstoy, one is instantly struck by the strong contrast between the peaceful nature scenes and the violent battle scenes. One minute the sounds of crickets and frogs are charmingly echoing through the night, and the next you can hear the clang of a heavy gun and the sound of bayonets touching one another (Tolstoy 20). In one scene, the generals and majors stand watching the gory battle below, yet they continue to discuss the beautiful nature around them as if nothing else could possibly be worth their attention (Tolstoy 25). However, upon closer readings, it becomes evident that the warand nature scenes are not as separate as they seem. As the story progresses, the two begin to weave together, until distinguishing them is nearly impossible. Indeed, this subtly merger can be seen throughout multiple scenes as the story evolves. From the start, nature and warare both extremely prominent in the story. But, they are presented separately from each other. The best example of this is on page thirteen. The sun had done half its journey, and cast its hot rays through the glowing air onto the dry earth...the motionless air seemed full of transparent dust, the heat was becoming unbearable (Tolstoy 13). This entire paragraphdescribes the nature all around the marching soldiers. Then, it is followed by a separate paragraph: Half way on their march the troops reached a small stream and halted. • 10. The Impact Of Police Personality And Coping Impact of Police Personality and Coping on Perceived Job Stress Currently, there is a lack of research that connects personality and its impact on stress and coping (Lau, Hem, Berg, Ekeberg, Torgersen, 2006). Research in this area is particularly important for law enforcement because personality can influence how police interact, react, and cope with stressors (Larsen Buss, 2002). Clearly, police face a wide array of stressors everyday due to the nature of their job. According to Violanti and Aron (1994), being a police officer is one of the top three most stressful occupations one can have. How they deal with that stress can impact the individual officer, the department, and society itself. Research has shown that many officers use maladaptive coping skills to deal with these stressors (Patterson, 2003). Although police stress has been widely researched, most studies do not look at police stress over the different stages of their careers and through the different officer ranks. Personality, perceived stress, and coping may change throughout a police officer s career (Jensen, 2009). Knowing at what point in the officer s career and at what rank the most stress is experienced will also aid in creating a preemptive plan. Literature Review What is the police personality, how does it form, and how is it assessed? Larsen and Buss (2002) define personality as, a set of psychological traits within the individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martin Luther King Jr Influence For centuries, African Americans and indigenous peoples have been overlooked, discriminated against, and seen as inferior for one reason: the colour of their skin. Over time, society has evolved in many ways due to many people s courage and determination, notably Martin Luther King Jr a Baptist Minister and the leader of multiple civil rights protests and movements. In Australia, Aboriginal people were granted voting rights before Federation in 1901, but only if they had served in the army and were over 21. • 13. Jeanette Winterson s Story Of A Mother Story In Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal, Jeanette Winterson reflects on why she had to become a writer. Winterson s, alternative to not writing her life story would be losing herself in the narrow mesh of her adoptive mother s story (698): Winterson experiences a power struggle between her adoptive mother s narrative and her needs to preserve her personal story. Winterson s mother story is one of severe unhappiness and resentment, or an unlived life as Winterson describes it (695). Through her adoption, Winterson was thrust into a dysfunctional familyand suffered extensive abuse at the hands of her angry mother. Winterson alludes the strength she has been forced to gain in order to survive. In a chaotic and abusive household, she was forced to become a bare knuckle fighter to endure the pandemonium (696). As Winterson says about her family dynamic, the one who wins is the one who hits the hardest (696). Winterson s life experiences portray a struggle to exist as she suggests, she has been fighting alone her whole life without anything to help her or back her up. Often being forced to fend for herself, thus revealing her need to preserve her story and prevent it from drowning in the tragic narrative of her mother. While Winterson s descriptive literary devices paint a picture of the pain and suffering she endured as an adopted child, the reader may struggle while interpreting the true source of her childhood pain. A Plan For A University Facilities Project Manager INTRODUCTION Teams, as discussed this semester, referred to individuals at one firm brought together to, for example, complete a project, develop a new product, or define a new process. However, I as a university facilities project manager, have a different sort of team; one consisting of individuals from different firms brought together to complete a building project. How might the principles of team building be utilized in my team consisting of end user group (who will occupy the building), facilities operations staff, architect, and contractor or construction manager? The construction industry has utilized a concept called partnering on large projects with the goal of creating a cooperative environment to minimize conflicts which could result in claims or litigation (GSA 2016). It is hoped to achieve this goal by creating an environment of trust and open communication among the participants. Caltrans is a strong advocate of partnering; requiring the process on all projects over $10 million (Caltrans 2013). They have an admirable field guide and partnering training program. We also have PMI s Project ManagementBook of Knowledge providing guidance in developing a project management plan (PMP). The PMP documents much of what is covered in partnering sessions. Yet in reviewing the Caltrans field guide, creating PMPs, reading partnering articles, and participating in partnering sessions myself; the process is missing something. • 15. Archetypes In The Bloody Chamber Very few texts have had as much influence on the theological thought or have indelibly marked the Western World morals as the story of the earthly paradise of Genesis. Very few female archetypes have become so engraved in the Western collective unconscious or imagination as that of Eve, the first woman, the mother of mankind, the temptress, the directly responsible for the Fall and the destruction of mankind who, therefore, is stigmatized, blamed for it and conceptualized as inferior to Adam, the man. In this sense, Mary Wollstonecraft s argument that myths such as the Fall are designed to persuade us that we are naturally inclined to evil seems to be true. This essay seeks to examine, in the first place, the way in which this thought, with particular reference to women as the eternal culprit, appears to be deeply rooted in the religious reading of the book of Genesis, thus laying the foundations for a patriarchal society. Then one can analyse how the writer Angela Carter, despite including references to this myth in her book The Bloody Chamber, desacralizes and demystifies this patriarchal view of women by rewriting... The problem with myths, according to Carter, is that they only pretend to explain things and, in fact, they are actually much more focused on, and only explain, a very small part of the world. In this case, it is a world in which women are controlled by dominant stories that look as if they are explaining the world, but are actually deciding how things are meant to be seen. The thing among myths and the problem of myths is that they uphold a patriarchal view of the world that dismisses or leaves out the role of women almost entirely: while myths shot down the world, Carter, with her retelling, opens the world back ... Steven and his dad, Rudy, would never forget being in the same room as one of the greatest blues musicians of all time. They had heard rumours that, if you waited around the artist s entrance long enough after a show, Isaac Smith would eventually allow you to come in and meet him. Steven and Rudy were in no hurry. So, they decided to wait. Steven passed the time by checking to make sure his camera was in working order. Rudy wanted an opportunity to have his picture taken with his hero; Steven wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. An hour and a half passed. Just when Steven was about to suggest they give up, the artist s entrance door opened. A large man in a black suit announced, Mr. Smith will see you now. The corridor to the dressing room was barely wide enough to accommodate one person standing in the middle. The security guard instructed the group to form a single file line against one wall. We can only let in two at a time. The room is small, he said. Steven s heart sank. He was fourth in line and Dad was fifth. They wouldn t be able to get in at the same time and Dad wouldn t get his photo. That s when the man standing third in line said, He s going to see all of us. There could be a great screenplay and a great director, but if the right people are not casted, the whole movie can flop. Ellen Lewis, the casting director for Goodfellas, did an amazing job. When you have a lineup consisting of Ray Liotta , Joe Pesci (Tommy) and the great, Robert De Niro (Jimmy), you have something special. The chemistry between the three is something you do not just find anywhere. The bond between their characters is very believable and the transition into their dark times comes naturally. When things get tough for the three, relationships are tested and things go downhill at a rapid velocity. Being in a mob, you have to be careful who you mess with and when one of these men whacks the wrong guy, things go from bad to worse. The directing of the story makes it easy to understand and puts everything into place. The transition from the good times to the bad is outlined with the heartfelt narration of Henry and a great soundtrack . As Roger Ebert says in his review, He [Scorsese] doesn t simply compile a soundtrack of golden oldies; he finds the precise sound to underline every moment, and in GoodFellas, the popular music helps to explain the transition from the early days when Henry sells stolen cigarettes to guys at a factory gate, through to the frenetic later days when he s selling cocaine in disobedience of Paul Cicero s orders, and using so much of it himself that life has become a paranoid labyrinth. I completely agree. The use of asynchronous sound is vital in a film like this and Scorsese (along with the editor, Thelma Schoonmaker) delivers everything needed to make this an amazing ... Fewster Thuente (2015) state that ineffective collaboration between providers and nurses account for roughly 70% of major medical errors. Therefore, it is critical for disciplines to work collaboratively to prevent fragmentation of care and provide positive patient outcomes (Fewster Thuente, 2015; Havens, Vasey, Gittell Lin, 2010). Buchbinder and Shanks (2012) state that the benefits of effective teams within healthcare include coordination of care, efficient use of healthcare services, increased productivity, increased trust among team members, increased job satisfaction, and higher patient satisfaction. Ezziane et al. (2012) described five core components of teamwork that include team leadership, mutual performance monitoring, backup behavior, adaptability, and team orientation. High performing teams use these elements to develop a culture for speaking up, and situational awareness among team members. Situational awareness refers to a person s perception and understanding of their dynamic environment, and human errors often result from a lack of such awareness (Ezziane et al., 2012). • 31. The Great Gatsby Soundtrack Analysis The soundtrack made the film The Great Gatsby such a huge success. The artists were specially chosen by the producer Anton Monsted to compliment the novel. The artists integrated the intense emotional feelings described in the book as well as direct quotations into their songs. This helps the music better fit the novel. It also blends genres such as today s hip hop and 1920 s Jazz in an incredible way. The soundtrack was beautiful and flattered the movie while incorporating the books themes and imagery. Interviews were later given to discuss the filmmaking and production of the soundtrack, which gave background to the reasoning behind the music. Along with this were critical reviews as well. In a review by Brendan Dempsey the soundtrack and specifically the song No Church in the Wild was analyzed. In an explanation behind some of the lines Dempsey begins to say, Rolling in a Rolls Royce Corniche: Gatsby s yellow Rolls convertible is a key symbol in the story. (Dempsey) This obvious connection between the song lyrics and the novel is undeniable. Cocaine seats/All white like I got the whole thing bleached/Drug dealer chic (Jay Z, Kanye West) The drug references and involvement in drug dealing is relative to Gatsby s past. He goes to say in the novel Oh, I ve been in several things, he corrected himself. I was in the drug business and then I was in the oil business. But I m not in either one now. It is easy to see that Jay Zand Kanye West wrote this song based off the descriptions from the novel. (Fitzgerald) Another line from the song that concerns the characters in the novel is I live by you, desire/I stand by you, walk through the fire/Your love, is my scripture This shows the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy. We are sure of this relationship in the novel because of descriptions such as the following: It was a strange coincidence, I said. But it wasn t a coincidence at all. Why not? It aligns the action with time, from hopeful spring to despairing autumn. It has a crux to the plot that remains unresolved until the end of the third act Will the estate be sold or saved? It has couples who seem destined to be married, servants who fail to serve a heroine with both grave flaws and charisma. The Cherry Orchard can be read in many ways, as a conflict between hope and despair, between conflicting illusions, or nature and mankind. Above all, it can be read as an evocation of honest pessimism about the outcome of all these conflicts, with only a glimmer of hope and no false consolations. This is significant as Tolkien s works are one of very few literary ventures that has been successful at applying a realness to the fictional imaginative eloquently enough to appeal and resonate so deeply within popular culture, similar only to that of J.K. According to Tolkien s biography, by a young age he had mastered the Latin and Greek which was the staple fare of an arts education at that time, and was becoming more than competent in a number of other languages, both modern and ancient, notably Gothic, and later Finnish, and began creating languages purely for fun (David Doughan MBE). It seems that Tolkien s early interest stemmed from watching coal trucks going to and from South Wales bearing destinations like Nantyglo , Penrhiwceiber and Senghenydd from his home in King s Heath (David Doughan MBE). In fact, it was Tolkien s early interest in linguistics which caused him to embark on the challenge of creating a world for his artificial languages, making them the most prevalent aspects of his works. Tolkien, whom studied linguistics before eventually becoming an author, wrote in one of his letters, now known as letter 205, that The invention of languages is the foundation. The stories were made rather to provide a world for the languages than the reverse. One security technique is protecting systems with usernames and passwords to access any equipment, wireless networks and sensitive data should be guarded with unique usernames and passwords for each member of staff, this is for two reasons it is an added layer of security so if someone hacks in they have to get passed the password and it also allows companies to see what exactly their employees are accessing, also the passwords that are used should be very strong so the passwords should include numbers, letters and symbols and not have standard dictionary terms or dates such as birthdays which are easy to guess. In my opinion, usernames and passwords are very effective because it makes it harder for hackers to hack in and it allows companies to keep an eye on employees for example they will be able to see what files they are accessing and if they are a risk to the company. Abortions, the practice of removing a fertilized egg from a mother, has become a controversial issue in American society, but should be generally supported because women should have the choice on how they choose their eggs to go on, whether it be to end further growth of the fetus or not. Women have a right to control what happens in and with their body. Being a pro choice defender means taking sympathies to this woman while she then gets called a murderer by pro life supporters. From the start, we ve always strived to do more, and to do important and meaningful things with the resources we have. We did a lot of things that seemed crazy at the time. Many of those crazy things now have over a billion users, like Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and Android. And we haven t stopped there. After this, the teacher added 1mL of concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4) into the pear shaped flask to be used as a catalyst to increase the rate of reaction between the two reactions, 1 butanol and ethanoic acid. The bulb of the thermometer was levelled with the intake to the condenser so that it was ensured that the temperature recorded was that of the ester vapour that was condensed in the condenser and not the fractioning column. This was important as the temperature of the vapour that was being condensed in the condenser represented the boiling point of the ester, which had to be recorded to obtain a distillation range. There are three laws in motion that explain movement, they are the Newton s three laws of motion named after Isaac Newton. The Newton s first law states that an object that is a rest will stay at rest unless an outside force is acted upon it and an object that is in motion will stay in motion unless an outside force is acted upon it. This is also called as inertia , which means the property of an object to restrict its motion. Examples of inertia would be when a car is driving at a constant speed and instantly stops the person will fall forward if there is no seatbelt. The seatbelt is a safety device that is commonly found on car seats and aircraft seats, it is made from strong durable materials such as fabric, nylon or polyester. Cars that are manufactured are required to have seatbelts due to road safety laws. The law was introduced in the 1970s, it was shown that having seatbelts reduced the amount of road deaths. The seatbelt was invented by George Cayley in the 1800 s, the seatbelt appeared on planes in the 1900 s but was later developed to a three point seatbelt by Nils Bohlin. The purpose of seatbelts is to save lives during a sudden stop of movement. The seatbelt was designed to restrain the person from forward motion that may occur in a collision or a sudden stop. It was anticipated that World War I would be the war to end all wars. President Woodrow Wilson was the primary leader to achieve this goal with his 14 Points making and keeping the peace in the world. Albeit the Treaty of Versailles amalgamated many of Wilson s points, it struggled to be ratified in the Senate. The defeat of the Treaty of Versailles was largely due to the Senate and popular opposition of the treaty. Some might argue that President Wilson s actions and mindset was moderately to blame for the failure of the Treaty of Versailles to persuade the Senate. After all, President Woodrow Wilson refused to take any Republican Senators with him to the Paris Peace Conference. Additionally, President Wilson held strong unwillingness to compromise during his whirlwind tour throughout the nation to gain support for the treaty, until when he suffered a stroke and collapsed from the public view. However, these mistakes of Wilson seem very miniscule when compared to the immense impact the opposition of the public and the Senate had on the defeat of the Treaty of Versailles. Such things are not possible with the meta physical mind because it is independent of the body. In my eyes this does not cancel out that God is real, because it is possible that at first God created everything with good intentions, and left individuals to live and react to certain situations their own ways. He says that imagination is not essential to his existing, so he removes himself from these thoughts. After seeing this, he then attempts to see if the body truly does exist. He explains the beliefs he has about the outside world. He understands his body and such experiences it goes though, and through that he realizes that they must be present, and if they were not it would be impossible for him to feel them. The end of feudal contracts gave people a little more say in their day to day working activities, resulting in more time spent at home, which ultimately resulted in childbearing. Machines such as the scribbling mill, and spinning jenny did the work of a hundred hands, for every single human hand. Initially these machines were met by workers with despair, as one machine in twelve hours could do the work of ten men by hand . These machines also reduced labour by a third, which resulted in an increase in wage for workers and it also worked to increase trade since nations were about to compete with one another for cheaper resources . From an economic standpoint this shift in labour was beneficial to the masses because instead of people exerting themselves to compete with other nations, machinery could just take on the majority of the work, assisting in this movement. This benefitted business owners because they did not need as many labourers, and they could also afford to lower taxes. Smith declares the invisible hand as a necessity for society because capitalism drives people to seek cheaper sources, and in return if you provide that you will ultimately gain wealth. Adam Smith wrote in The Wealth of Nations that division of labour was the greatest improvement resulting from the industrial revolution. Division of labour was beneficial to both the employee and the employer. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Public Housing Policy in Singapore 1INTRODUCTION The Singapore public housing policy since its establishment has proved to provide shelter for the population and has contributed significantly to the economic, social and political development of Singapore. This policy has been the benchmark for the best public housing by other countries notably China and Hong Kong (Yang, 2010; Wong, 2011). The public housing policy implementation has been spearheaded by Housing and Development Board (HDB) to tackle post war economic problems such as rapid population growth, high unemployment rate and a critical shortage of sanitary housing (HDB, 2014). The policy was also aimed to mitigate social problems such as riots and strikes among the different ethnic groups (HDB, 2014). The success story of public housing policy implementation lies in the higher economic growth and social stability of Singapore. Economic growth saw 82% of the population live in 879,000 HDB flats located across 23 towns and estates with home ownership rate at 95% high (Department of Statistics, 2014). In terms of social stability, the policy implementation has freed Singapore from race riot since 1969 (Department of Statistics, 2014). However, rising issues and concerns of ageing population, income disparity and higher housing price have destabilized Singapore s public housing policy (Population White Paper, 2013). In light of these challenges, new measures and directions have to be introduced by the Government to keep public housing policy relevant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Nt1310 Unit 1 Network Analysis Paper Each layer has a specific function and the layers work together to allow an application to send data over a computer network without really specifying the exact protocols and/or physical wiring within each layer. In line with the figure above, when the first CEO sends an email message to the second CEO, email application worker firstly prompts the first CEO to enter a message and specify that the receiver is the second CEO. The application worker then creates the necessary data package with message contents and the destination email address and send s this to a transport worker . The transport worker provides transport integrity. The transport worker may establish a connection with the receiver (second CEO); monitor the overall flow between sender and receiver, and perform the overall error control to recover any lost data to protect... The network worker then takes the data package from the transport worker and adds routing information as to assign the package with a specific PO BOX address or rather a network address (if you may) in order to navigate through the network. The network access worker then inserts error checking information and prepares the data for transmission. The physical worker finally transmits the data via a physical or wireless medium so that the second CEO receives the message. The following figure shows how the data is transmitted from the application layer to the physical layer. In the case of sending an email, in the same breadth, the OSI model follows similar logical and physical connections when transmitting the email from one CEO s email mailbox to the other s. The other difference is that though the TCP/IP protocol suite has 5 layers, the OSI model has seven layers which basically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Similarities Between Ancient Egypt And Ancient Athens A Comparison of Societies in Ancient Egypt and Periclean Athens Midterm Essay Maureen Cairns In comparing and contrasting the societies of Periclean Athens and ancient Egypt, we must first mention some of the characteristics of an actual society: a society has a stable food supply, social levels and classes, specialization of labor, a system of government, and a highly developed culture. Both the societies of ancient Athens and Egypt fit into these parameters. In this essay we will explore social classes, gender relations, social inequality, and hierarchy as they apply to these societies. Both ancient Athens and Egypt adhered to a strict hierarchical framework, ranking people as superiors or inferiors. Old Kingdom Egyptian hierarchy is described as having the king and queen at the top, with priests, administrators, governors and army commanders coming second, then the commoners who worked mostly in agriculture, and finally, slaves, who had been captured in war. (Hunt, pg. 22). According to Esolen, (pg. 35), Egyptian society was structured as such: the Pharaoh came first, and was believed to be God on earth. Next came the Vizier , who was the pharaohs chief advisor. Nobles were next in the hierarchy, responsible for making local laws. Priests came next, and were responsible for performing rituals and ceremonies. Scribes were a very important group, as they were the only ones who could read or write, so they were the record keepers. A small percentage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Purpose Of A Qualitative Purpose A purpose statement is one, or a number of sentences providing a summary of the principle objective of a piece of research (Creswell, p.123, 2014). The role it plays is crucial in every study regardless of an approach being quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method. It stands as the most important statement in and entire piece of work, therefore it must be clear, specific, and informative (Creswell, p 123, 2014). Without it, comprehension amongst audiences is challenging. The aim of this essay is to describe the elements required to produce a qualitative purpose statement of suitable standard as well as to apply such elements to an area of research. Before further procedure, attention must be drawn to the fact that the sole focus is on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, most of such elements constituting a purpose statement of descent quality are included, with the exemption of one. Most importantly, the intent of this study is stated through the word purpose. There is also a focus on one sole concept which is the development of social and affective relationships in an online learning and their influence on [the learning processes and outcomes of the students] (Wang, 2005). The manner in which the writer s observations and research has been conducted is indicated through the use of the action verb to explore. Yet another element included in this purpose statement is the use of neutral words or phrases. There is nothing stated that indicates any particular outcome. The study participants and site have also been mentioned, which are students within the online learning community; however the online community and group of students were not specified in this above purpose statement. Instead, they could have been specified earlier on in the introduction as well. There has also been an indication of the limitation of the study which was to learning online , instead of merely ...
