This document outlines the procedure for making a butt joint between two metal strips using arc welding. It describes checking the work pieces, preparing the edge to be a 1.6x1.6 root, positioning the pieces horizontally on the table with the welding rod holder and ground clamp in place. The welding is then done by producing an electric arc from the welding rod to melt and join the two metal plates, with slag removed afterwards using a chipping hammer.
