Analysis Of George Green s Spell Of The Magic Play
Spell of the Magic Play by George Green Just like a vivid dream with the most energetic scenes,
Spell of the Magic Play will take you on an adventure. This piece not only makes the viewer
question what reality is, but it also pulls you into another dimension. It is booming with colorful
energy at all angles, and will make any adult feel like a child again. Strategically placed acrylic
paint is smoothly brushed on birch wood, creating multiple square and rectangular shapes. These
shapes of colors are so precise in angle, that it s almost as if they were part of the wood itself.
Tiny squares of color are scattered along it adding to the visual energy. As the eye travels to the
bottom right side of the painting, a thick glob of acrylic paint... Show more content on

Edges permit interface of seemingly disparate visual systems; each with its own internal logic.
The greater the local differences of systems the greater the energy produced (OSU library).
Green is a post modern abstract painter who works primarily with acrylic paint, and as a
founding member of the abstract illusionists, he has left a huge impact on the art world. Not
only are his works shown in over 60 museums worldwide, he has also had 160 exhibitions in the
U.S. and Europe. Spell of the Magic Play has the ability to change one s view on reality with the
use of trompe l oeil illusion, and it contains repeated overlapping elements and colors. Green is
able to create depth using shadows so strategically that it makes it impossible to tell what is flat
and what isn t. To the left of the painting, a large spiraling cone is seen that pushes the viewer to
look inside of it, and even reach inside into the unknown. This urge to look more closely never
ceases throughout the piece. Little windows are also created by the use of shadow. In these
windows there are tiny details of painted clouds which makes it seem like there could be
something beyond the surface. Looking at these puts the viewer in a comfortable space, almost as
if one is looking outside of their own bedroom window. The combination of trompe l oeil

Similarities Between Tiananmen Square And Fahrenheit 451
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things
that matter. Such a thought is common among people that want to spark change. To keep
themselves alive, they rebel. Silence is the equivalent of death. It is death to hope for a better future.
In China, many students shared this common idea. Beginning in the spring of 1989, Beijing s
students gathered in a famous square known as Tiananmen Square. They were protesting their
communist government. There was unemployment, inflation, corruption of the government, and
restrictions on the future of the students. They wished for a life of democracy where they could
have a dialogue with the government. They refused to let silence kill them. Millions of students
gathered, protested, paraded, held meetings, staged sit ins, and hunger strikes. At first, the
government let the protests continue. When it was out of control, the students were pushed to
leave. When the students refused, chaos broke loose. Many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Tiananmen Square, the protesters were given a warning. The were ordered to clear the square
before punishment arrived. The protesters refused to clear, so On June 2, Yang ordered a military
crackdown on the student demonstrators and the clearance of Tiananmen Square on the grounds
that a counter revolutionary riot was fermenting and continued instability would retard economic
reform (Tiananmen Square Incident: Cold War). This shows that after being advised to halt the
rebellion, consequences ensued. The reasoning behind the consequence was that this demonstration
caused instability even though part of the protest was requesting government stability. It is clear
that in the rebellion of Tiananmen Square, protesters were given a chance to clear away before

Charles Taylor And The Civil War
Liberia has suffered two major civil wars. The first civil war happened from 1989 until 1997. In
1980, Samuel Doe had led a coup d Г©tat to overthrow the government of Tubman. In 1985,
elections were held in the country, and it was considered to be highly fraudulent. A coup was
organized, but it was not successful. In 1989, Charles Taylor arrived in the country from Ivory
Coast and led an uprising against the government of Samuel Doe. During the uprising, two factions
arose with one staying with Taylor and the other supporting Prince Johnson. Johnson fought for the
capital, and he executed Doe while taking the city. The emerging conflicts saw Taylor and Johnson
fighting over the control of Monrovia. The civil warled to over 200,000 deaths. After the election
of Taylor, peace reigned for two years before the second civil war started. The war began in 1999
when a rebel group that was backed by Guinea, which was a neighboring country, invaded northern
Liberia. The Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) fought against Taylor
forces. Civilians were the most affected because they were between the two warring factions. In
2003, another rebel group was formed known as Movement for Democracy in Liberia. This group
emerged from the south and by mid 2003, the government controlled only a third of the country.
The two rebel group oversaw the deaths of thousands of people. Much more were displaced.
Currently, the population of Liberia consists of more than 51%

The Impact Of Alexander I On Russia
Alexander I was the Tsar at the time Napoleon marched his Grand Army of more than 600,000 men
into Russia during June of 1812. The Russians called this war the Patriotic War due to the strong
resistance and outstanding endurance that ensued by the entirety of the population. The Russians
retreated for much of the war and the French advanced at a quick and efficient pace, conquering
much of Russiaon the way to Moscow. Napoleon was under the impression that once Moscow had
been captured and occupied, the Tsar would capitulate. However, this was not the case.
On September 14, 1812, what is now known as the Fire of Moscow broke out. The majority of
historians attribute the initial fired to the Russian army as a form of sabotage. Вѕ of the

Essay On University Life Study
Over a consecutive 3 and a half years, a web based study referred to as the University Life Study
was conducted among a group of students enrolled at a large university. They had to complete a
web based questionnaire and a 2 week daily diary each semester. A maximum of $80 was awarded
to each student based off the pre incentive and completion ($5 pre incentive,$25 for completing the
initial survey, $3 for each daily survey, and an $8 bonus for completing all surveys).

based survey (University Life Study) about a wide range of topics related to student life and
health. Of the students asked first, 66% consented by submitting an online electronic signature
and providing data. The morning following completion of the semester survey, students received
an email with an invitation to begin the daily surveys. Each morning for the next 13 days, they
received emails with hyperlinks to the daily questionnaire. Fifteen items assessed the amount of

Maze Runner Themes
Loss of innocence, good versus evil, duality, and humankind s tendency to abuse power are
common themes used in books to grab the reader s opinion. The book I decided to write about is
The Maze Runner. Thomas, who is a teenager, arrives at the glade with no memory of his past.
The glade is in the center of a giant maze. There he discovers that he is not the only one that has
no memory. The only thing that any one of them remembers in their name. He quickly adjusts to
life in the glade and surprises everyone with his curiosity and bravery, which causes some
suspicion from a glader named Gally. Because of that, he is rewarded being a runner. Thomas
wanted to be a runner from the start because runners get to go into the maze and he was... Show

This disease was called the flare. With most everyone dead and others dying, it was thought
impossible to save humankind. But then an age of immunes showed up. A group of scientists
came together determined to find a cure. They called themselves World In Catastrophe Killzone
Experiment Department (W.I.C.K.E.D. for short). They wanted to made a testing facility with an
environment that caused stress. That was how the maze was created. They gathered as many
immunes they could find, taking them from their families. These trials killed so many young
immunes, who could have lived otherwise. Some even went insane from the torture that went on
in the maze. One character in the book says if you ain t scared, you ain t human. He has a point
because if Thomas showed up to the glade acting like everything was normal, people would be
suspicious. They overpowered them and they did not care about the lives of the children they
were experimenting on. Thus could be compared to Romeo and Juliet because of Lady and Lord
Capulet s selfishness. They did not care about their daughter Juliet as W.I.C.K.E.D did not care
about their test subjects. Good versus evil also ties in with that theme. W.I.C.K.E.D. is portrayed as
evil throughout the series and put the gladers through horrible experiments. They d wiped his
memory and put him inside a gigantic maze. Their ways of testing were appalling and unethical.

Personal Media Manifesto Essay
Personal Media Manifesto Media usage can be a positive thing, it benefits many businesses as a
way to promote their brand and items, as well as creates networks for young entrepreneurs.
Media usage however, also has it down falls, from cyber bullying to misrepresenting news to
people as well as portraying a false image of what one should look like. Media is a blank canvas
for young minds to express themselves, and it is advancing so fast that it is being integrated in
our everyday lives. Which ever way you look at it, media can be interpreted in many different
ways, as the consumers are all different and have all had many different experiences. I
personally try not to let the media surrounding my life affect how I think, it is just hard, because
even though I am aware of it I still tend to let it get to me because it is in almost every aspect of
my life. I personally do not use media as much as society tends to interpret about my generation
and peers. I limit myself and have control over how much time I spend on my social accounts. I
have one Instagram account and a snapchat account. Instagram was originally made to allow users
to post pictures and it is now used for news, pictures, videos, direct messages and much more.
These changes have been added because of the demand that lies within its users, who get easily
bored. Almost every time I log onto my account I see pictures of nearly naked women and
inappropriate comments from men. What is dangerous about this

Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London
A story s setting can be impacted by plot, theme and mood. One thing that impacts setting is plot.
An example of how plot impacts setting is the location. The evidence that I found in the story, To
Build a Fire, by Jack London, to support how the location affects the plot is that it sets the tone. The
main characters goal was get to camp to meet up with his boys . With the weather getting bad and
the man not making it to the location it just makes the story. Could you imagine the story taking
place at a park, or at the beach? The next piece of evidence would of course be how the blizzard
affects the setting of the story. London describes the ground that the man was walking on was a
thin sheet of ice with three feet of snowon top of that. This plays an important part because later in
the story the man starts walking and doesn t notice that he was actually walking on the frozen
lake until he falls through. So with there being a blizzard going on it snowed a lot on the Yukon
Mountains. This means you could see the footprints of other traveler but unfortunately those
footprints would be gone in an hour. The second impact would be theme. In To Build a Fire,
there are three themes throughout the story. Those themes are listen to your elders, to be
prepared, and learn from your mistakes. Because of the time period of the story, people were
raised to respect their elders. Unfortunately, the main character didn t. The man from Sulphur
Creek had spoken the truth when telling how cold it sometimes got in the country, and he had
laughed at him at the time! (pg 4) Within a few paragraphs later the man wishes he would have
listened to the old man s advice which was not to travel alone when it gets to 50 degrees below
or lower. The second theme discussed throughout the story is how to be prepared. London tells
us that the man that the man did pack but not like he was suppose do. He felt that he was strong
and could handle anything so all he needed was his bag and jacket. Meaning he definitely didn t
pack the correct clothes to wear in a blizzard. That is why he got frostbite. Later we even find out
that the man only had his two biscuits with bacon warm in his jacket for him and his dog. The last

Justification For Osteoporosis
Justification
Osteoporosis is commonly known around the world as the numbers continue to increase every year.
Osteoporosis is known to cause problems in middle aged women and occasionally effecting some
men (1), currently reaching the number of 200million women diagnosed with osteoporosis (2).
Arthritis Organisation states that anyone can get osteoporosis but women are about four times more
likely than men to develop it, with two main reasons contributing to this fact. For several years
after menopause occurs (ovaries stop producing oestrogen), the process of bone loss speeds up,
increasing the chance of being diagnosed with osteoporosis. Yet men generally reach a higher level
of bone density before the process of bone loss begins. Although ... Show more content on

As osteoporosis occurs due to calcium deficiency, diet habit changes are crucial, allowing the body
to recover and strengthen the bones. Bone strengthening nutrition often includes an increase intake
of calcium and vitamin D (5).
As recommended, nutritionists often say that a sufficient amount of calcium intake per day is
1000mg for women over the age of 19 (6). Unfortunately, many people find it difficult to meet
the requirements as not all calcium we take in is used effectively. Some is lost and some
excreted. However, with the menu provided, calcium intake levels have been boosted to fit
patients diagnosed with osteoporosis. For example, the glass of milk provided at breakfast
contains 300mg per cup, providing approximately 1/3 of the recommended amount (7). Not only
does milk boost up the calcium, but most dairy products, tinned sardines or salmons, soy based
products and dark leaved vegetables also contain calcium (8). Some of these meals include the
cream of potato soup. As it remains as a side dish of the lunch, only 37mg of calcium has been
added. With all other meals and their calcium levels, the body is able to receive enough calcium per
day, as recommended. One other example throughout the menu that consists of calcium is the apple
turnover and custard for the dessert. This dessert comprises of ingredients such as milk and cream
allowing the body to consume a sufficient amount of calcium. Other calcium products has been
added throughout the meal to balance out the calcium intake of the day, without an overdosage as it
can have other side effects such as hypercalcimia which occurs due to too much calcium in the
bloodstream. To prevent osteoporosis the menu provides suitable amounts calcium, where the
calcium intake approximately adds up to 1087.17 mg (7) per day, meeting the recommendations,
which proves that the calcium consumption level is just right to help with the

because some teenager thinks of a weird way to express himself and it sticks. Take it back to the

Slang is evolving and has become mediocre in everyday life. When a new slang word is created,
it is superlative for seconds because teens are desperate to sound cool and fit in with everyone. It is

The Somalian Refugee Crisis Essay
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced, Somalia s drought and refugee
crisis is the most severe humanitarian emergency in the world, (UNHCR, 2011). Although
estimates vary, about 800,000 people have left Somalia seeking asylum. Most now reside in
refugee camps in bordering Kenya and Ethiopia. Many trek for days with little or food to seek
safety and assistance in refugeecamps only to find conditions that are no better. Host nations and
humanitarian organizations cannot support the vast number of refugees that have already crossed

By early summer (1992), at least 300,000 civilians had already died and in July (2009) the
International Committee of the Red Cross re iterated its six month old estimates that 95 percent of
the population of Somalia was malnourished and 70 percent in imminent danger of death by
starvation, (Jon Western, 1999). Between 1992 and 1995 a UN Peacekeeping force and a small
American lead coalition attempted to stabilize the country. After limited success, both eventually
pulled out. In the decade that followed fighting between warlords, political groups, and neighboring
countries have contributed to numerous failed attempts to establish a functioning government. The
country is considered a failed state.
To compound the issues, in the last two years limited rain fall has caused the worst drought in
over 60 years. The already overwrought food situation exponentially worsted as crops and
livestock die due to water shortages. As a result the numbers of refugees have recently increased
dramatically, with over 330,000 Somalis seeking refuge since January of 2011, (UNHCR, 2011).
For the Somali people, options are very limited. Warlords have actually banned humanitarian efforts

The Influence Of Augustus
Gaius Octavius, who later became known as Augustus, was part of the Second Triumvirate along
with Antony and Lepidus. Caesar s assassination had instigated multiple civil wars caused by
disagreements between aristocrats fighting for power. Augustus rose to power during that period of
war and chaos. When Augustusemerged, he was readily accepted because the Romans were tired
of all of the power struggles and also because Augustus did not impose himself on the Romans.
Under Augustus rule, Rome entered the Pax Romana, which was a period of peace that lasted for
200 years. He was a kind ruler and did not act like a tyrant. During Augustus reign, improvements
occurred in Rome s economy, military, government and architecture. Because the Romans... Show

This was mostly because of all his achievements for the empire. He divided Rome into fourteen
districts, each with an administrator elected by the locals, to make the empire easier to manage,
thus solving Rome s previous expansion problem. After the death of Caesar, the number of senators
had increased greatly. Many of them were unworthy and had gotten the position through bribery. In
order to lower the number of senators, Augustus instructed each member to nominate one another
and then chose personally from that list of names. In doing this, Augustus was able to cut the
number of senators from 1000 to 600. This raised the standards of being a senator and lowered the
chance of corruption. Furthermore, Augustus extended the borders of the empire in the Iberian
Peninsula, Gaul, Germany, Middle East and Asia Minor. He created alliances with other kingdoms
that wanted to avoid war with the Romans. Augustus also restored and erected great public
buildings, temples, theatres, bathhouses, arches and his own mausoleum. He repaired roads and

Defining Marriage

Defining Marriage I take thee to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse,
for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part,
according to God s holy ordinance and thereto I give thee my troth. With this ring, I thee wed,
with my body I thee worship, and with all my worldly goods I thee endow (The Book of
Common Prayer, 423). This is one of the famous wedding vows that people around the world use
to get married. But what does marriage mean? What does for better or for worse and till death do

The power of pooling has great benefits as couples often only need one house, one set of furniture
and appliances, plus they can also share gas and electricity. However, this new view of cohabitation
also carries an emphasis on personal and financial independence (Waite 46). This means that
couples are only willing to go fifty fifty on things like money and time. It is evident that this
unwillingness to financially support or spend more time with their partner often causes this kind
of relationships to fail. In the other hand, when marriage involves giving a hundred percent of
what the couple has to offer, the results are different. To further analyze this point, Waite writes in
her book that when married couples pool all of their money together, they are also showing a
financial union that is one of the cornerstones of what Americans mean by marriage (41). This is
evident in a married couple that rely on the wife to manage the spending and savings on the
household, while the husband turns over his check to the wife. This kind of commitment helps
them manage money easier and evading problems that the cohabitation couple would have. All in
all, to find the meaning of marriage today requires a more thoughtful and inspirational approach.
Furthermore, the meaning of marriage is changing with today s high pace and individualistic life
style. People now days expect a quick high level of

Romanticism And Gothicism In Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey
The class of the novel started just in the eighteenth century however since its exceptionally
beginning it grew quickly. The distinctive sorts of the class gain for instance a novel of conduct, a

and has a critical effect on the improvement of the entire type of the novel. In opposition to
Neoclassicism which adulated realism, Gothicism did not trail the principles of etiquette, did not

lines, Gothic fictionincreased tremendous prevalence among the users. In any case, after numerous

Jane Austen displays the differentiation between the world as it is and the world as seen by the
exaggerating whom she wished to disparage. She communicates it by the difference between a
typical, sound natured young lady and the sentimental courageous women of fiction, and by
demonstrating the young lady marginally influenced with sentimental ideas. Gothic books and their
traditions happen all through the novel, particularly in its second part. In transit from Bath to
Northanger Abbey, the Tilney family situate, Henry recounts a comical speculative tale about
Catherine s first night in the Abbey, including common highlights of gothic novel. He teasingly

The Pros And Cons Of Sugar
Sugar
Sweets are fun, Sweets are yum!
But too much sugar is bad for your tum!
Theodora
Now days we find sugar in almost every food we buy in the supermarket. Most people don t take a
look of the amount of sugar they are ingering in their daily diet, but there are many things they
should know before buying something and not looking at the amount of sugar it has. Before all the
pros and cons of sugar appear, do you know what sugar is? Well, sugar is a carbohydrate called
sucrose. Sugar is made up of fructose and glucose, glucose is used by the body for energy and
fructose if rapidly changed into glucose in the body. Now that we know what sugar is it would be
good to know why it is bad or good for our body.
As everything in the world we always find more bad things than good things about anything, so i ll

First of all we can t denny that sweets are delicious for most people. An interesting good fact
about sugar is thath it helps food last longer acting like a preservative in foods like jam, fruit and
vegetables. It is used to balance the acid taste in food, it Works within yeast to make bread rise
and it also make food taste and look good, for example; when you sprinkle some of it on top of
cakes and pies. Also sugar raises up your energy surprisingly fast. But you need to make sure that
if you want long lasting energy is better to eat a fruit high in sugar as a bannana or an Apple.
This is because if you eat things like a chocolate, coke, Candy bars or other sweets with added
sugar your energy eventhough it would be raised realy fast it would not last long and would make

Conflict Between Arabs And Arabs
For such a young and geographically small country, Israel boasts one of the most complicated
geopolitical situations in the world today. Situated in Western Asia on the southeastern shore of the
Mediterranean Sea, it shares borders with Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan, the Palestinian territories,
which include the West Bank and Gaza, Egypt, and the Red Sea. The Jewish state was created at
the conclusion of World War II by the United Nations when the British Mandate expired and the
State of Israelwas officially established on May 14, 1948, but it lacked clear borders in an area
where tensions between Arabs and Jews had already been in existence for thousands of years.
Even though Israel is The Jewish State , demographics for 2014 show the population to be 75%
Jewish and 24% Arab. This Arab population, mostly Palestinian, occupies what is known as the
West Bank, which is controlled by the Palestinian Authority, but the Israeli Occupation and
Military officially controls it and the Gaza Strip. The two groups struggle over how to divide the
land, who should be allowed to live there, and who should be in control has led to the longest
military occupation in history and one of the world s largest geopolitical conflicts.
The Jewish people, the inhabitants of Israel, trace their heritage back to Abraham, who, along with
his son and grandson, lived in present day Israel in the Land of Canaan establishing it as a holy
land for the Jewish people. These religious ties to the land fuel

Correlation Between Dietary Sugar Intake And Risk For Cancer
The body requires sugar (Espat, 2015). However, there is recent speculation that sugar can cause
cancer. More than one million people in the United States (US) get cancer each year (American
Cancer Society, 2016). Most Americans eat more than double the recommended daily intake of
sugar each day (Espat, 2015). According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015 2020,
individuals should not consume more than 10% of their calories from sugar(US Department of
Agriculture, 2016). While increased sugar intake can lead to other issues, such as obesity, which is
associated with cancer, diabetes and cancer occur together more often than would be expected by
chance alone (Oncology Nutrition, 2016).
The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on a topic that should be of great
importance to the public. Everyone should be informed of preventable factors that can be linked
to an increased risk of cancer. This study will explore the correlation between dietary sugar
intake with risk for cancer. Many experts argue over the relation of sugar and cancer, and very
little research has been done on the topic. The University of Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center
associates obesity, a result of high sugar diets, to be the actual correlating variable between cancer
and sugar (Espat, 2015). However, the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine (Osher Center for
Integrative Medicine, 2012) reports that elevated blood sugar levels lead to mutations in DNA,

Terrorism In Marshall Curry s When A Tree Falls
In a modern world with so many different competing views, philosophies and ideologies the term
terrorism is very politically and emotionally charged. Because of this it has become nearly
impossible to come up with a universal definition of what terrorism actually is. In the documentary
directed by Marshall Curry and titled When a Tree Falls. In the film the idea of what is a terrorist
is examined through the criminal prosecution of members of the Earth Liberation Front, focusing
primarily on the prosecution of Daniel McGowan. There are as many as 109 different definitions of
terrorismin use around the world, the United States has multiple legal definitions of terrorism in use
at any one time (Potter, Green Is the New Red, p. 36,37). With this vague soup of definitions
governments across the globe demonize any groups of opposition that oppose their actions and
ideologies. It is on these grounds and the fact that Daniel McGowan s actions were nonviolent
property crimes, without any actual direct attempt to coerce an audience into political action that he
should not receive a terrorism enhancement on his conviction.
If one were to ask a cross section of individuals to define what terrorism means, there would
ultimately be multiple definitions similar in many aspects but not able to be unified to create a
single definition. Terrorism is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gun Control versus The Right to Bear Arms Essay
With the topic of gun control comes a widely split crowd. There are those that believe that gun
control is necessary for decreasing crime and making a nation a safer place to live. And on the
other end of the spectrum, they are those that speak of how anti gun control is what would make
our nation a safer place to live. After all, ?Would a person be as likely to break into another

everyone will agree that felons, addicts, morons, juveniles, alcoholics, the mentally incompetent,

take a look back at how the Bill of Rights comes into play with the second amendment. In 1689
the English Bill of Rights was passed, by Parliament in response to King James II trying to
disarm his subjects. The English Bill of Rights allowed people to be armed ?suitable to their
conditions? and ?allowed by law.? This right was then transferred to the American colonies, and
after the American Revolution, our Bill of Rights of 1791, further strengthened the second
amendment claim of the people?s right to bear arms, with the words ?the right of the people to
keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.? The Bill of Rights limits the power of the federal
government. How does it do this? How about an example? Can the federal government establish a

The Rorschach Inkblot Test Essay
The Rorschach inkblot test is one of the most widely known psychological projective test of
personality, and the most controversial. In general, projective tests are psychoanalytically based
tools that assist clients to reveal their unconscious conflicts via responses towards ambiguous
stimuli, and can also help psychologists to determine psychological disorders. Specifically, the
Rorschach allows individuals to interpret a series of abstract inkblots based on their emotional and
cognitive function, as well as interaction (Barlow Durand, 2009). Apparently it was Leonardo da

folding it in the middle, but still the cards were not random but selected out of thousands that H.
Rorschach created. The test consists five black and white symmetrical inkblots with different
shades of gray, two black/gray with red stains, and three multicolored. Each inkblot is printed on
a separate white card, approximately 18x24 cm in size (Kaplan, Saccuzzo, 2008). To administer
the test, an examiner, trained in the field of psychology, presents one inkblot at a time and the
person he assesses says what each card portrays based on his emotional, and intellectual state. The
examiner keeps notes of clients verbal interpretation as well as his nonverbal behavioral responses,
such as silence, facial expressions, and gestures. Next, he asks the client based on which
perceptions, internal (personality) and/or external (inkblot) characteristics he utilized or was
influenced by in order to respond, and once again the administrator keeps notes. Afterwords, the
responses are categorized and evaluated based on client s distinguished observations and/or
movements derived from the cards,

The Importance Of Cultural Diversity In Schools
When it comes to cultural diversity in schools, a lot of issues have the potential to come up.
Currently, I feel that I am somewhat competent of the cultural diversity that exists in the world,
but I have a lot more to learn. Some important things to consider when working with diverse
populations are the morals and values that specific cultures hold and how they differ from what I
know and live by. Becoming more aware of other cultures will help me be able to work with
everyone no matter what culturethey identify with. One thing that I think students will benefit
from in schools is having a group to identify with whether is may be a culturally diverse group of
people from many different places or a group solely for a specific culture. With these groups, we
can help educate all students in the school to help them become more aware of their peers and help
create a healthier and more accepting environment.
Section 2: Personal Application of Theory: Learning about all of the different theories that

future students. Reflecting back upon the content, I have found that the theories that I identify with

School Start Times And High Quality Sleep
The American education system is diverse and unique, and one aspect that varies wildly across
the country is school start times. Deciding the start times for schools is dependent on many
factors including bus schedules (Edwards, 2012), biological development (Borlase, Gander,
Gibson, 2013; Perkinson Gloor, Lemola, Grob, 2013), and parental preference (Edwards, 2012;
Perkinson Gloor et al., 2013). School start times are considered one aspect that can affect sleep
duration, since they affect wake time. Adequate, high quality sleep is extremely important for
adolescents and inadequate sleep can lead to a number of negative outcomes including poorer
physical and mental health, as well as poorer academic performance (Borlase et al., 2013;
Edwards, 2012; Keller, Smith, Gilbert, Bi, Haak, Buckhalt, 2015; Paksarian, Rudolph, Jian Ping,
Merikangas, 2015; Perkinson Gloor, et al., 2013). Therefore, school start times are important to the
field of education, because start times affect sleep and sleep, or lack thereof, can affect cognitive
ability and performance. We are always looking to improve our schools and better educate our
children, and the adjustment of the start time is a small change that may have a big impact.
Overall, the results of these studies suggest that early school start times are detrimental to all
students, as elementary, middle, and high school students were examined in at least one of the five
studies. Students at schools with early school start times

Disney handles a lot of resources in its businesses, but we can consider that there is one main
critical resource that it tries to leverage: creativity, and in a way, all the resources that are linked
to it (intellectual property for instance). Actually, over the years, Walt Disney adopted different
strategies, diversified its activity, always trying to manage creativity in the best way. Under Einer,
creativity was handled through the brain storming meetings, and when they were reduced or

Explain The Differences Between The Hayward Gallery
Explain the differences between the Hayward gallery (1968) and its South Bank neighbour, the
Royal Festival Hall (1951) in terms of their planning and finishing and in the different ways they
relate to their urban context.
While there are many similarities between the Hayward Gallery
and Royal Festival Hall, there also are a number of differences in terms of planning and finishing
in relation to urban context. Higgs and Hill built the Hayward Gallery, which opened on The 9th
of July. It is an art gallery located in the Southbank Centre, which is a key arts venue in Central
London. Until early 2011 the gallery was simply known as the Hayward. The Royal Festival
Hall is situated adjacent to the Hayward Gallery. It is a famous dance, concert and talks venue
with a capacity of 2500. It was the first the post war building to listed as a Grade 1 building. The
Hall officially opened on 3rd May 1951 and was built as part of the Festival of Britain for the
London County Council. Planning plays an integral role in the procedure to achieve any given
outcome. Without any planning it would be extremely challenging for the architects to succeed

Artemisia Gentileschi was born Artemisia Gentileschi Lomi in Rome on 8 July 1593, although her
birth certificate from the Archivio di Stato indicated she was born in 1590, the eldest child of the
Tuscan painter Orazio Gentileschi and Prudentia Montone.[3] Artemisia was introduced to painting
in her father s workshop, showing much more talent than her brothers, who worked alongside her.
She learned drawing, how to mix color, and how to paint. Since her father s style took inspiration
from Caravaggio during that period, her style was just as heavily influenced in turn. Her approach
to subject matter was different from her father s, however, as her paintings are highly naturalistic,
where Orazio s are idealized. At the same time, Artemisia had

Piracy Is The Only Media Losing Money
Even though file sharing can spread the word on any media and increase its popularity, online
piracy should be regulated and stopped to support the maker of the source. Piracy is stealing
content from the makers and the entertainment industry loses billions of dollars each year due to
piracy. The economy takes a huge blow from piracy. The people who make the movies come to life
lose jobs. Over 750,000 jobs have been lost due to online piracy. That s 71,060 jobs a year. This
includes technicians, editors, producers, camera operators, and many more. These people make up

If more people don t see these movies in the theaters, the business may go extinct. All the money
the movies make does not go to the theaters. They make all their money from popcorn and drinks.
If people stay home and watch the movie illegally, not only does the people who make the movie
lose money but the theater also loses money and more business go out of business.
If we re losing so much money from these pirates, how much piracy is there. That s a very hard
question to answer because there is so much. It s like counting ants; the figures are so small. A lot
of companies use the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) statistics. They re not
perfect but they work for research purposes.
It seems obvious that most pirates are located in countries where there are computers and
internet access. These locations are most likely in developed countries like the United States,
Russia, and the United Kingdom. Tracking what is uploaded onto sites is possible but is
difficult. Networks called peer to peer networks track uploads but are slowing dying because of
legal issues and the shutdown of websites like Megaupload and RapidShare. Copying media does
not also happen on the internet. Simply putting media on hard drives, cds, flash drives and handing
them to people is not trackable unless you re caught by law

will have its own public key and private key. Let s assume Alice and Bob are the sender and

Natural Vs Anthropogenic Climate Change
Natural versus Anthropogenic climate changes
Anthropogenic climate change occurs due to something that is caused by humanity. One example
of this is fossil fuels, the carbon dioxide is higher than in the previous centuries due to humans
burning fuel like coal for energy. As with emissions of methane along with greenhouses rising those
affects also add to change of climate. The second example of anthropogenic climate changes is due
to agriculture. Before humans began burning fuels for energy climate change occurred by
deforestation, agriculture and also irrigation. The change happened as people had reduced
vegetation ground cover, which changes how sunlight may be reflected and absorbed. Natural
climate change occurs due to events such as volcanoes eruption and the ash being spread
everywhere. One example for natural climate change is solar energy, there are fluctuations which
occur over time and predicts some pattern for change. Another example of natural climate change is
from earth itself, the orbiting from the earth around the sun will alter at different positions which
has an effect of what level of energy earth gets. How these changes are similar they both alter

With the assistance and guidance of savvy leaders, who recognized his ability to lead and
influence others, Welch progressed to the position of CEO, where he served from 1981 to 2001.
Through this process, Welch elevated himself to one of the most influential business leaders in
the world (Wikipedia, 2004). General Electric is a large company involved in a variety of
products and services. One of their most memorable slogans is Imagination at Work (Van Camp,
2004). With the myriad of products and services that General Electric provides, this slogan gives
you a peek into the GE culture. With such a creative machination, GE has continued to regenerate
new ideas from its products and services strategy. In order to help leaders embrace this philosophy,
all GE managers spend time at a place called the Croton on Hudson campus, or, Crotonville, for
short. At Crotonville, the extensive training program is infused with informality, a key element put
in place by Welch, that sets the pace for instilling the culture (Byrne, 1998). Each member of the

Peoria Argumentative Essay
Throughout the 1800 s there were many crucial debates on the idea of slavery. One of the
biggest controversies in this time was the Kansas Nebraska act, passed in May of 1854. The act
was the deciding factor of if Nebraska and Kansas would be a slave or free state, it would later
repeal the Missouri Compromise. Lincoln was considered a very moral man, he used his political
power for what he believed in. Lincoln would be considered a strong advocate for the abolitionist
movement. Although with this Lincoln did share the racial views of his time, he still spoke out
against slavery and was considered to free slaves. Lincoln s good out ways his bad in the questions

The Peoria speech, prior to the Kansas Nebraska act, was in fact fueled by the act Lincoln the act
accelerated his views on the African American race as a whole and the ways they were treated.
He realizes how misguided slavery was from the constitution. In his Peoria speech he calls
slavery a monstrous injustice and repeatedly tries to get the point of how wrong slavery is
throughout the speech. Lincoln realizes how much the African Americans suffer through this. In
August of 1862, Abe meets with a couple of the African American leaders in order to discuss
what would the future look like for their race. He does this as an act of sincerity although some
of his talk would have been considered racist from him telling them that their race would never
prosper here and should move outside the nation. In him saying this it does sound a bit racist but
in all reality this was because he truly believed that this would be best after watching what us going
on with the Kansas Nebraska act it seemed to be the best and most thoughtful option. Although his
plans fell through and the 13,000 eager blacks were unable to colonize from the denial of the
government, Lincoln s kind gestures and ideas help with him as an

The Hurt Man
Life is full of loss and you cannot avoid experiencing it and well as sorrow. As people grow up
they come to realize that the world is not as it seemed to be when they were younger. They get
more independent and their perspective of life changes. They will have to realize that they are not
going to live forever. In the short story The Hurt Man, written by Wendell Berryand published in
2003, we meet Mat who learns all of this.
During the short story Mat is growing up. He is born unexpected but he is still very much
appreciated. His parents watch him closely so he does not get hurt but this change as he becomes
older. At the age of five, the household gets busier and Mat is now more independent.

Cass s husband has previously been a slave. In 1772 it became illegal to sell slaves in Britain but
this does not of necessity mean that people did not have slaves. In addition to the appearing
people the environment tells a lot about the time, too. To get hot water Nancy has to bring a
kettle over a noon fire. It is also difficult for them to find a doctor. They cannot just telephone
one. They have to go searching for one and they are not always findable. This gives you an idea
about the theme of the short story is timeless. It was, as said before, published in 2003 which
means that the writer wrote the short story many, many years later. But it is still current and
relevant. Loss, sorrow, growing up, independence and changing perspectives are all universal.
Mat sees the seriousness and hardness of life during the incident of the hurt man. Al though the hurt
man does not die Mat realizes that he could have. That he will someday. Besides, the graveyard of
the town is more populous than the town itself. This illustrates that death is such a massive part of
the town, the world, and life.
This is not the only thing Mat realizes in the course of the hurt man s presence and his mother s
actions. After that, her losses would be his. The losses would come. They would come to him and
his mother. They would come to him and Margaret, his wife [...] (ll. 139 142)
The mentioning of his wife shows that Mat is all

What Is Nonverbal Communication In American Culture
As the Middle East continues to be ravaged by war and extremist threats, over 1.2 million
Pakistanis have been displaced, primarily due to insurgencies in north west Pakistan. After
traveling through Iran and Turkey by foot and bus and finally spending two years in a refugee
camp in Greece, a 40 year old Pakistani teacher, her husband, and two pre teen children finally
arrive in the United States. As they begin to settle into their new home, an organization I work with
has enlisted me to aid them in transitioning to their new home. They self identify as followers of
Islam, observing most all rules of the faith, yet are unadmitted unsatisfied and distant in their faith.
Communication Elements While relating with this mother and her family, an understanding of their
cultural context as it pertains to communication is key. Subtle to observe yet incredibly vital, non
verbal communication shapes the majority of interactions and is especially decisive when working
cross culturally. In this cultural context, heavily influenced by the Islamic faith and the Arab cluster

and abiding by their rules of modesty in fashion is one of the largest non verbal ways to
communicate friendship and acceptance. Working from the general Pakistani framework of
modesty, I, as a woman, should be intentional to dress myself with loose clothes that cover my arms

modesty to be prepared for any unexpected encounters. Furthermore, when entering their apartment,
it s important to recognize that most Pakistani families take their shoes off when going inside and

Essay On Fighting Obesity Through Taxation
Fighting obesity through taxation: Are fat taxes effective?
1.Introduction
The global growing number of obese among adults and children is alarming and is one of the
biggest public health issues that health systems are facing (Laura Cornelsen et al. 2014). In 2014
adults overweight prevalence was estimated at 1.9 billion worldwide of these 600 million were
obese and this number keeps increasing at a noticeable pace. Nearly one thirds of the world
population is obese or overweight and 41 million children under five were overweight or obese
according to WHO (2016).
Imbalance between high level of energy intake and low physical activity has been shown as the
main drivers of the high rocketing of obesity rate (Malik Hu, 2011). Although... Show more content

2006). Evidence from studies has shown that high intake of sugar and junk food is associated with
weight gain and adverse obesity health outcome (Hu and Malik, 2010). According to Willett and
Ludwig (2013), low level of satiety in SSBs compared to sugar contains in solid food stimulate
their overconsumption. Indeed SSBs are highly addictive and they are associated with obesity
and a range of diseases related to obesity. According to Basu et al (2014), 1% increase in
consumption of SSBs was associated with 7.1% increase in the prevalence of overweight or
obesity among adults in India . In the UK, SSBs account for 29% of sugar consumption amongst
children, and around 16% for younger children, and for adults according Public Health England
(2015). These factors combined have been determinants to impose fat tax. In addition sugary drinks
are aggressively marketed, easy to purchase at home, schools through vending machine.
By introducing fat tax policy, governments expected consumers to switch to healthier substitutes
and encourage physical activity which may lead to weight lost and the drop of diseases related to
obesity. A healthier diet reduces the risk of developing any of the health related problems
associated with obesity.
Most studies assessing the effectiveness of fat taxes are focused on SSBs, this paper will try to
understand the logical pathway of fat taxes intervention and its effectiveness and whether the
impact of these taxes are sustained

Voting And Voting Behavior
Introduction
Throughout the world, scholars of political science have tried to introduce different approaches on
how to analyse voting in democratic states. This helps not just to analyse election results, but also
to predict future moves of the key agents in elections. This includes political parties, politicians,
interest groups and voters. Different models reache from sociological to psychological as well as
from economical to candidate focused approaches (Hague and Harrop 2013). Hence there is a
general argument of which theory is most sophisticated and enables us most to understand voting
behaviours.
This essay seeks to explore to what extend the Downs model of voting helps us to understand, in
which ways political parties align themselves in general elections. Political parties shall be seen as
Вґa team of people seeking to control the governing apparatus by gaining votes in a duly constituted
electionВґ (Down 1957, p.25). General elections shall be defined and restricted to democratic
elections and the state level, which are held within periodic intervals to determine its government.
Due to the limitations of this essay, this shall be restricted to a two party system and illustrated by
certain examples during both the 2008 and 2012 Presidential election of the United States of
America.
The Downs model of voting, introduced in An Economic Theory of Democracy (1957) by Anthony
Dows, develops two main hypotheses that (1) `parties act to maximise votes` (Downs 1957, p.

Analysis Of Paulo Freire s The Banking Theory Concept...
In the essay The Banking Concept of Education, Paulo Freire creates the argument that teachers
simply deposit knowledge into students and the students then only store the deposits, without
having any input of their own. He says that the student records, memorizes, and repeats these
phrases without perceiving what four times four really means.... (318).
The teacher teaches and the students are taught; the teacher chooses and enforces his choice, and
the students comply; the teacher chooses the program content, and the students (who were not
consulted) adapt to it. Those are only some of the points made by Freire in the banking theory.
Although Freire is talking about education, this theory can also be applied to modern day
advertisement. Companies plaster advertisements anywhere they can, from billboards to television
screens, telling viewers what they need to look like, act like, be like, and talk like, while the
viewers simply take in that information and conform to it.
In this Sisley advertisement, two models are snorting what would be expected to be cocaine, but
instead it is a white dress. The words Fashion Junkie are printed underneath the brand name. The
bright white of the dress creates a contrast with the pitch black background, creating an atmosphere
of darkness. Additionally, both models are caked with heavy eye makeup, and the model on the
right has her eyes rolled back giving the appearance of being high. This Sisley advertisement uses

  • 3. Analysis Of George Green s Spell Of The Magic Play Spell of the Magic Play by George Green Just like a vivid dream with the most energetic scenes, Spell of the Magic Play will take you on an adventure. This piece not only makes the viewer question what reality is, but it also pulls you into another dimension. It is booming with colorful energy at all angles, and will make any adult feel like a child again. Strategically placed acrylic paint is smoothly brushed on birch wood, creating multiple square and rectangular shapes. These shapes of colors are so precise in angle, that it s almost as if they were part of the wood itself. Tiny squares of color are scattered along it adding to the visual energy. As the eye travels to the bottom right side of the painting, a thick glob of acrylic paint... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edges permit interface of seemingly disparate visual systems; each with its own internal logic. The greater the local differences of systems the greater the energy produced (OSU library). Green is a post modern abstract painter who works primarily with acrylic paint, and as a founding member of the abstract illusionists, he has left a huge impact on the art world. Not only are his works shown in over 60 museums worldwide, he has also had 160 exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. Spell of the Magic Play has the ability to change one s view on reality with the use of trompe l oeil illusion, and it contains repeated overlapping elements and colors. Green is able to create depth using shadows so strategically that it makes it impossible to tell what is flat and what isn t. To the left of the painting, a large spiraling cone is seen that pushes the viewer to look inside of it, and even reach inside into the unknown. This urge to look more closely never ceases throughout the piece. Little windows are also created by the use of shadow. In these windows there are tiny details of painted clouds which makes it seem like there could be something beyond the surface. Looking at these puts the viewer in a comfortable space, almost as if one is looking outside of their own bedroom window. The combination of trompe l oeil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such a thought is common among people that want to spark change. To keep themselves alive, they rebel. Silence is the equivalent of death. It is death to hope for a better future. In China, many students shared this common idea. Beginning in the spring of 1989, Beijing s students gathered in a famous square known as Tiananmen Square. They were protesting their communist government. There was unemployment, inflation, corruption of the government, and restrictions on the future of the students. They wished for a life of democracy where they could have a dialogue with the government. They refused to let silence kill them. Millions of students gathered, protested, paraded, held meetings, staged sit ins, and hunger strikes. At first, the government let the protests continue. This shows that after being advised to halt the rebellion, consequences ensued. The reasoning behind the consequence was that this demonstration caused instability even though part of the protest was requesting government stability. • 5. Charles Taylor And The Civil War Liberia has suffered two major civil wars. The first civil war happened from 1989 until 1997. In 1980, Samuel Doe had led a coup d Г©tat to overthrow the government of Tubman. In 1985, elections were held in the country, and it was considered to be highly fraudulent. A coup was organized, but it was not successful. In 1989, Charles Taylor arrived in the country from Ivory Coast and led an uprising against the government of Samuel Doe. During the uprising, two factions arose with one staying with Taylor and the other supporting Prince Johnson. Johnson fought for the capital, and he executed Doe while taking the city. The emerging conflicts saw Taylor and Johnson fighting over the control of Monrovia. The civil warled to over 200,000 deaths. After the election of Taylor, peace reigned for two years before the second civil war started. The war began in 1999 when a rebel group that was backed by Guinea, which was a neighboring country, invaded northern Liberia. The Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) fought against Taylor forces. Civilians were the most affected because they were between the two warring factions. In 2003, another rebel group was formed known as Movement for Democracy in Liberia. This group emerged from the south and by mid 2003, the government controlled only a third of the country. Media usage however, also has it down falls, from cyber bullying to misrepresenting news to people as well as portraying a false image of what one should look like. Media is a blank canvas for young minds to express themselves, and it is advancing so fast that it is being integrated in our everyday lives. • 10. Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London A story s setting can be impacted by plot, theme and mood. One thing that impacts setting is plot. An example of how plot impacts setting is the location. The evidence that I found in the story, To Build a Fire, by Jack London, to support how the location affects the plot is that it sets the tone. The main characters goal was get to camp to meet up with his boys . With the weather getting bad and the man not making it to the location it just makes the story. Could you imagine the story taking place at a park, or at the beach? The next piece of evidence would of course be how the blizzard affects the setting of the story. London describes the ground that the man was walking on was a thin sheet of ice with three feet of snowon top of that. This plays an important part because later in the story the man starts walking and doesn t notice that he was actually walking on the frozen lake until he falls through. So with there being a blizzard going on it snowed a lot on the Yukon Mountains. This means you could see the footprints of other traveler but unfortunately those footprints would be gone in an hour. The second impact would be theme. In To Build a Fire, there are three themes throughout the story. Those themes are listen to your elders, to be prepared, and learn from your mistakes. Because of the time period of the story, people were raised to respect their elders. Unfortunately, the main character didn t. The man from Sulphur Creek had spoken the truth when telling how cold it sometimes got in the country, and he had laughed at him at the time! (pg 4) Within a few paragraphs later the man wishes he would have listened to the old man s advice which was not to travel alone when it gets to 50 degrees below or lower. The second theme discussed throughout the story is how to be prepared. London tells us that the man that the man did pack but not like he was suppose do. He felt that he was strong and could handle anything so all he needed was his bag and jacket. Meaning he definitely didn t pack the correct clothes to wear in a blizzard. That is why he got frostbite. Later we even find out that the man only had his two biscuits with bacon warm in his jacket for him and his dog. The last theme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arthritis Organisation states that anyone can get osteoporosis but women are about four times more likely than men to develop it, with two main reasons contributing to this fact. In order to lower the number of senators, Augustus instructed each member to nominate one another and then chose personally from that list of names. In doing this, Augustus was able to cut the number of senators from 1000 to 600. This raised the standards of being a senator and lowered the chance of corruption. The power of pooling has great benefits as couples often only need one house, one set of furniture and appliances, plus they can also share gas and electricity. However, this new view of cohabitation also carries an emphasis on personal and financial independence (Waite 46). This means that couples are only willing to go fifty fifty on things like money and time. It is evident that this unwillingness to financially support or spend more time with their partner often causes this kind of relationships to fail. In the other hand, when marriage involves giving a hundred percent of what the couple has to offer, the results are different. To further analyze this point, Waite writes in her book that when married couples pool all of their money together, they are also showing a financial union that is one of the cornerstones of what Americans mean by marriage (41). This is evident in a married couple that rely on the wife to manage the spending and savings on the household, while the husband turns over his check to the wife. This kind of commitment helps them manage money easier and evading problems that the cohabitation couple would have. Situated in Western Asia on the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, it shares borders with Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan, the Palestinian territories, which include the West Bank and Gaza, Egypt, and the Red Sea. The Jewish state was created at the conclusion of World War II by the United Nations when the British Mandate expired and the State of Israelwas officially established on May 14, 1948, but it lacked clear borders in an area where tensions between Arabs and Jews had already been in existence for thousands of years. More than one million people in the United States (US) get cancer each year (American Cancer Society, 2016). Most Americans eat more than double the recommended daily intake of sugar each day (Espat, 2015). According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015 2020, individuals should not consume more than 10% of their calories from sugar(US Department of Agriculture, 2016). While increased sugar intake can lead to other issues, such as obesity, which is associated with cancer, diabetes and cancer occur together more often than would be expected by chance alone (Oncology Nutrition, 2016). The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on a topic that should be of great importance to the public. Everyone should be informed of preventable factors that can be linked to an increased risk of cancer. This study will explore the correlation between dietary sugar intake with risk for cancer. Many experts argue over the relation of sugar and cancer, and very little research has been done on the topic. The University of Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center associates obesity, a result of high sugar diets, to be the actual correlating variable between cancer and sugar (Espat, 2015). Deciding the start times for schools is dependent on many factors including bus schedules (Edwards, 2012), biological development (Borlase, Gander, Gibson, 2013; Perkinson Gloor, Lemola, Grob, 2013), and parental preference (Edwards, 2012; Perkinson Gloor et al., 2013). School start times are considered one aspect that can affect sleep duration, since they affect wake time. Adequate, high quality sleep is extremely important for adolescents and inadequate sleep can lead to a number of negative outcomes including poorer physical and mental health, as well as poorer academic performance (Borlase et al., 2013; Edwards, 2012; Keller, Smith, Gilbert, Bi, Haak, Buckhalt, 2015; Paksarian, Rudolph, Jian Ping, Merikangas, 2015; Perkinson Gloor, et al., 2013). The act was the deciding factor of if Nebraska and Kansas would be a slave or free state, it would later repeal the Missouri Compromise. Lincoln was considered a very moral man, he used his political power for what he believed in. Lincoln would be considered a strong advocate for the abolitionist movement. Although with this Lincoln did share the racial views of his time, he still spoke out against slavery and was considered to free slaves. The Peoria speech, prior to the Kansas Nebraska act, was in fact fueled by the act Lincoln the act accelerated his views on the African American race as a whole and the ways they were treated. He realizes how misguided slavery was from the constitution. In his Peoria speech he calls slavery a monstrous injustice and repeatedly tries to get the point of how wrong slavery is throughout the speech. Lincoln realizes how much the African Americans suffer through this. In August of 1862, Abe meets with a couple of the African American leaders in order to discuss what would the future look like for their race. He does this as an act of sincerity although some of his talk would have been considered racist from him telling them that their race would never prosper here and should move outside the nation. In him saying this it does sound a bit racist but in all reality this was because he truly believed that this would be best after watching what us going on with the Kansas Nebraska act it seemed to be the best and most thoughtful option. What Is Nonverbal Communication In American Culture As the Middle East continues to be ravaged by war and extremist threats, over 1.2 million Pakistanis have been displaced, primarily due to insurgencies in north west Pakistan. After traveling through Iran and Turkey by foot and bus and finally spending two years in a refugee camp in Greece, a 40 year old Pakistani teacher, her husband, and two pre teen children finally arrive in the United States. As they begin to settle into their new home, an organization I work with has enlisted me to aid them in transitioning to their new home. They self identify as followers of Islam, observing most all rules of the faith, yet are unadmitted unsatisfied and distant in their faith. Communication Elements While relating with this mother and her family, an understanding of their cultural context as it pertains to communication is key. • 43. Voting And Voting Behavior Introduction Throughout the world, scholars of political science have tried to introduce different approaches on how to analyse voting in democratic states. This helps not just to analyse election results, but also to predict future moves of the key agents in elections. This includes political parties, politicians, interest groups and voters. Different models reache from sociological to psychological as well as from economical to candidate focused approaches (Hague and Harrop 2013). Hence there is a general argument of which theory is most sophisticated and enables us most to understand voting behaviours. This essay seeks to explore to what extend the Downs model of voting helps us to understand, in which ways political parties align themselves in general elections. Political parties shall be seen as Вґa team of people seeking to control the governing apparatus by gaining votes in a duly constituted electionВґ (Down 1957, p.25). General elections shall be defined and restricted to democratic elections and the state level, which are held within periodic intervals to determine its government. Due to the limitations of this essay, this shall be restricted to a two party system and illustrated by certain examples during both the 2008 and 2012 Presidential election of the United States of America. The Downs model of voting, introduced in An Economic Theory of Democracy (1957) by Anthony Dows, develops two main hypotheses that (1) `parties act to maximise votes` (Downs 1957, p. ... • 44. Analysis Of Paulo Freire s The Banking Theory Concept... In the essay The Banking Concept of Education, Paulo Freire creates the argument that teachers simply deposit knowledge into students and the students then only store the deposits, without having any input of their own. He says that the student records, memorizes, and repeats these phrases without perceiving what four times four really means.... (318). The teacher teaches and the students are taught; the teacher chooses and enforces his choice, and the students comply; the teacher chooses the program content, and the students (who were not consulted) adapt to it. Those are only some of the points made by Freire in the banking theory. Although Freire is talking about education, this theory can also be applied to modern day advertisement. Companies plaster advertisements anywhere they can, from billboards to television screens, telling viewers what they need to look like, act like, be like, and talk like, while the viewers simply take in that information and conform to it. In this Sisley advertisement, two models are snorting what would be expected to be cocaine, but instead it is a white dress. The words Fashion Junkie are printed underneath the brand name. The bright white of the dress creates a contrast with the pitch black background, creating an atmosphere of darkness. Additionally, both models are caked with heavy eye makeup, and the model on the right has her eyes rolled back giving the appearance of being high. This Sisley advertisement uses Freire s ...
