The United States initially sought to remain neutral in World War I due to public opinion favoring isolationism. However, several key events drew the US into the war on the side of the Allies. Germany's unrestricted submarine warfare led to the sinking of American passenger ships like the Lusitania, killing over 100 US citizens and angering the American public. Germany's intercepted Zimmerman Telegram, which proposed a German-Mexican alliance against the US, also increased tensions. By early 1917, diplomatic relations between the US and Germany had broken down, and America entered the war in April 1917.

This document provides a summary of four historical British plays: Everyman, The Second Shepherds Play, Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and Marlowe's The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus. It notes that the plays reflect the themes and concerns of their times. While the endings of the plays contrast significantly, the themes in each play set up the audience for the conclusion. Everyman and Doctor Faustus explore death, but in opposite ways - Everyman tries to convince others to join his journey to death, while Faustus has others trying to persuade him away from his deal with Lucifer. By the end, Everyman finds company while Faustus must face the consequences of his deal alone.

that no longer exists. By many of the amputees the pain is described as totally
unbearable. Phantom limb pain has even driven some victims crazy. For the amputee
population this is a very real problem that definitely needs to be solved.
After James Peacock had his right arm amputated last December, he expected some
difficulties. With those difficulties came pain so unbearableit could not be controlled
with all the medicine in his cabinet. Derek Steen, otherwise known as The one armed

When a body part is lost the corresponding part of the brain is not able to handle the
loss and rewires its circuitry to make up for the signals it was no longer receiving
from the missing digit. The rewiring might occur in one of two ways. Perhaps nerve
impulses in the sensory cortex begin to course down previously untraveled pathways.
The second theory is that neighboring neurons in the cortex may actually invade the
territory left fallow because sensations are no longer received from the missing limb.
Birbaumer, Lutzenberger, Montoya, and Wolfgang (1997) examined the functional
relationship between cortical reorganization and phantom limb pain. Neuroelectric
source imaging was used to determine changes in cortical reorganization in the
somatosensory cortex after anesthesia of an amputation stump produced by brachial
plexus blockage in six phantom limb pain patients and four pain free amputees. This
cortical reorganization was studied to examine whether the neurons rewired after the
loss of an appendage. Three of the phantom limb subjects experienced a virtual
elimination of current phantom pain. The Biraumber et al., (1997) result of the
anesthesia was a very rapid elimination of cortical reorganization in the
somatosensory cortex. In three phantom limb pain amputees pain was not reduced by

3. The Portrayal Of Women During The Most Famous
Works,...
William Shakespeare has written many major tragedies, most of which highlight
negative
stereotypes of women. In one of his most famous works, Hamlet, Shakespeare
portrays the
women in the play as being weak, dependent and subordinate to men. Throughout the
play, it
seems as though these women have no actual standing in society. They are shamed for
embracing their sexuality and their opinions are not respected or even taken into
consideration.
Gertrude s character is limited by guilt and she is made to feel apologetic for her
sexuality
throughout the play, solely because she is a woman and such actions are not
condoned. Ophelia s
life in this play is dictated by men. She is seen as incapable of making her own
decisions and
treated as though she needs her father and brother to guide her through life. The two
women are
presented in such ways that demean their character and only focus on them as beings
meant to
please men and do as they are told. Although many improvements have occurred
regarding
women s rights and the portrayal of women, the belief that men are superior to
women in all
aspects of life is still evident throughout Shakespeare #39;s play Hamlet in the
depiction of Gertrude
and Ophelia.
Gertrude is one of only two female characters in Hamlet. Throughout the play, she is

as though

5. Pension Benefits And Benefits Of Pensions
The topic to be discussed in this research paper is that of pensions. Pensions are an
important topic in the field of accounting due to all the specific accounting
methods and procedures that go along with them as well as the fact that pensions
are so widely used and can make up a large part of a company s expenses. Within
the topic of pensions to be covered in this paper fall the concepts of the types of
pension plans, pension obligations and plan assets, pension expense, as well as
various reporting issues. Pensions Pensions are a benefit that many employees
receive from their employers and come in the form of compensation that is
received after they are retired (Spiceland, Sepe, Nelson, 2013). Because these
pension benefits are a type of deferred compensation, there are certain ways that
these benefits must be accounted for. This means that pension benefits are
recognized as they are earned through an accrual basis. Aside from companies
providing pension plans, people sometimes also invest in things such as IRAs,
stocks, and bonds to create their own personal pension funds. The reason that many
companies offer pension plans is due to the fact that they can help provide a sense of
security for employees, increase employee satisfaction, or sometimes so that the
company can compete better in the labor market (Spiceland et al., 2013). Types of
Pension Plans Within the concept of pension plans fall two different types of pension
plans: defined contribution pension plans

The Pack Internship Grant Program was founded to expand access to high quality
internships for Nevada undergrads in all majors. How will you personally benefit
from an opportunity to complete a paid, local internship?
Currently, I am a sophomore studying Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at
the University of Nevada, Reno. As a college student, one of the most important
aspect of my education career is to gain different kind of experiences from
opportunities that are offer at the university. Personally, I believe that completing a
paid, local internship can give students, such as myself, the chance to gain valuable
work experience and build networks and connections, while applying knowledge and
skills in real life settings. Every type of experiences that exist, such as internships,
offer me the chance to enhance my strengths, understand the world around me, and to
push myself in continuing to develop as an individual to become successful in life.
For example, I was selected as an art intern for the Summer Business Institute
Program in Summer 2014. Throughout the eight weeks of exploring to arts, I had
an opportunity to work with a team of artists to create a mural and an art piece for
two local community centers in Las Vegas as well as organizing a civil

I will get to that, said, Mr. Washington. You see the native Americans were not
making fun of the new fighters, they were simply giving them a name that
explained to the other native Americans who they were. The buffalo was tough,
brave, and meant to be respected. So, therefore the black men were just like them
and that s why they called them that. These strong brave men were not only
fighters but they also had other jobs too. They had way more responsibility then
the white fighters. The Buffalo Soldiers had to herd cattle, escort settlers, and
railroad crews. They also, had to set up camp for the white armies and make roads
to travel on, but one of the greatest they did was they fought in the civil war. They
did a lot more than what we give credit to them. The buffalo soldiers have been
forgotten throughout history and some don t even know who they are. These men
are one of the greatest in African American history because they helped pave the
way for all equality and freedom for you and me. Now kids you see how important
the buffalo soiders are, said Mr. Washington. Yes, said, all the children. I didn t

9. The United States Government Spending
The United States Government SpendingIt is clear that the relationship between the
spending policy and the tax policy has dramatically changed over the past hundred
years. It has been noticed that the Democratic Party proposals show that increases in
spending or cut taxes have been paid with new revenue sources or by offsetting
spending reductions (Hungerford 1). For the Republican Party on the other side, tax
and spending decisions tend to show more favoritism for isolation from one other
and with little regard to any impact on deficits and federal debts (Hungerford 1).
Republicans pay for tax cuts and spending increases with more of financed sources
undergone during Republican administrations (Hungerford 1). With these
Democratic and Republican ways of dealing with spending increases and tax cuts,
many problems arise because, while the federal government is projected to run
deficits further into the future, the U.S economy is more focused on generating
considerable amounts of income growth far into the future. This is just another way
of saying that the real fiscal challenge in all of this is the political problem that
arises from raising revenues that are sufficient to meet the population s spending
needs (Hungerford 2). The authority of Congress to raise revenue to pay the debts
and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States that
comes from the Constitution Article I Section 8 is one that really needs careful

13. What Does Wood Aging Do To Wine
BARRELS
What does wood aging do to a wine? There are three aspects to consider, the wood it
is made from, the size and shape of the cask, and the age of the cask. Oak is the
preferred timber because of its strength and relative lightness, its cellular structure and
it is the taste components it contributes to wine.
Aging wine in small oak barrels accomplishes several things. Barrels add oak
nuances and flavors, similar to the spicing in a food dish. Thus, the choice of a
barrel is very important relative to size, source, degree of toasting, and the cooper s
barrel making technique. There needs to be a synergistic effect between the wood
and the wine.
The major factor influencing the flavor/aroma composition of oak cooperage is the
heating and toasting of the staves during barrel making. Toasting penetrates about
halfway into the stave, about 10 14 mm. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But more importantly, it provides the optimum surface area of oak to wine.
Smaller casks provide more oak contact, but are not cost effective. Lastly, the age
of the cask is an important factor. New oak contains the most flavoring compounds.
As the cask is used, tannins and other substances are leached out of the wood and
tartrate crystals from the wine build up on the barrel s interior, eventually causing
the cask to become inert. New oak also allows for more oxidation and inserts more
tannin. It also contains more softening substances from the cellulose of the wood.
The best French barrels cost about $800 each, the American oak costing about half.
One barrel holds enough wine for about 25 cases. Well treated barrels can be used
several times, especially for whites. Therefore, if a winemaker decides to use a
French oak barrel three times, each case of wine will cost roughly $14 more to
produce or $7 more a case with American

15. The Happiest Refugee Summary
Ahn had not left this oppressive environment, he would have grown up in extreme
poverty and would be a very different person due to the trauma that poverty causes.
Refugees are here to escape poverty and persecution; because they have
experienced severe trauma, they are at a much higher risk of psychiatric illness
than the general population. I believe that these statistics can be reduced if our
negative attitude towards marginalized groups changes. Because of the media and
government induced stereotypes, Australians often show disdain towards refugees.
This inhibits their adjustment to Australian society and creates further division
among us. The Happiest Refugee is a valuable resource in the fight against racism
because it shows that refugees share our values, embrace our culture and are eager
to contribute to Australian society, and I strongly support it s inclusion in the
Rochedale State High School English program. One of the reasons why I found
The Happiest Refugee to be enjoyable and impactful is the use of various aesthetic
devices; including vivid imagery and humour. Ahn does not simply tell his story;
instead, he uses descriptive and emotive language to paint a picture in the reader s
mind. This allows us to imagine that we were there and connect with the situation
emotionally. An example of imagery in this autobiography is when Ahn shows us
what it is like to be a boat person . He describes his traumatic experience at sea by
using language such as The sky
16. Catherine Howard Research Paper
For my research paper, I plan to write about the Boleyn/Howard family. I will be
focusing mainly on Henry VIII wives Anne Boleyn and her cousin Catherine
Howard. The time frame I look to examine is from the rise of Anne Boleyn and her
family to the fall of Catherine Howard and the aftermath of their executions and how
it affected the family left behind. I think that both the Boleyn s and Howard s were
very influential towards the middle and end of Henry s reign. Most prominent is
Anne Boleynwho has been polarized throughout history as either an innocently
executed wife or a malicious and ambitious she wolf who brought down Catholicism
in England. Whichever way you look at it Anne is one of his most remembered and
influential wives. For whatever... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catherine s quick rise and fall from favor shows just how unstable Henry had really
become in his final years. How he had no problem in executing anyone who
betrayed him, even his 18 year old wife. Catherine also represents the Howards
final attempt to gain control and power in England by placing another Howard girl
on the throne. During his reign Henry was known to keep favorites and
handsomely reward those who pleased him. For this reason, early on the noble
families of England vied for Henry s attention and rewards by trying to make the
ladies in their families his mistresses. However, that strategy changed when Anne
went from being his mistress to becoming queen of England. This meant that they
weren t just playing for money and power but they were now fighting for a place
on the throne. This became increasingly more difficult after Anne s execution when
Henry showed that no one was safe and wining the throne was a dangerous play.
Still, families like the Seymour and the Howards tried to gain power this way. For
the most part, the Seymour succeeded in this endeavor by giving Henry what he
most desired, a male heir. The Howards however failed with Anne and her daughter
Elizabeth and then with Catherine who though young and fertile gave Henry no
children and was later discovered as an

Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that by the end of the Second
World War the US had developed into a superpower. In the USA after World War 1
ended in 1918 there was a new hope and optimism which was an inevitable reaction
to war as people look for a better life. The first world war created a surge of energy
and ambition in the nation more so than in any other nation in the world. This new
found energy was created by the industrial power increased from government
encouragement as well as the introduction of mass production which gave cheaper
consumer goods and so helped lead into the American dream. The American dream
was also helped by the increase of wages which meant that they had more money to
spend on creating the dream American home and lifestyle, this extra money meant
that they could also have more freedom leading to the era being known as the Era

from small towns. In 1921 after the Wall Street Crash the few things that the
government did well are that they set up the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in

18. Ageing
4. Discuss the physical and psychological changes associated with normal ageing.
How can one minimise pathological ageing?
The process of aging has been around as long as life itself. All living organisms pass
through three broad stages from conception to death, which are maturation, maturity
and aging. Aging affects everyone because nearly everyone has the potential to grow
old and all the societies in which we live have older members (Macdonald, 1997).
Gerontology is the use of reason to understand aging. The term was used to refer to
the scientific study of aging, but nowadays it includes the study of aging using views
from other disciplines such as humanities, social policy and human services. To

In order to counter act this one must maintain regular and also suitable exercise. One
must take into consideration the exercise tolerance in relation to his/her current age.
Change to healthier lifestyle by quitting smoking as this can have a direct relationship
and can worsen the breathlessness. It is important to not mix mild shortness of breath
that does not affect normal daily activities with shortness of breath at low exercise
level and wheezing as these may be symptoms of chronic bronchitis, asthma or heart
failure.
Digestive System
A common change related to normal aging is changes that affect the digestive system.
The most common one observed in old age is constipation (Macdonald, 1997). In
order to minimise constipation it is essential or eat a fibre rich diet with more
vegetables and fruit. Also maintaining regular exercise can also reduce the chance of
developing constipation. Stools with blood or mucus are not part of normal ageing.
Urination
In normal ageing changes in urination also occurs. It is seen that there is more
frequent urination at night (Matteson et al., 1998). In order to minimise this
pathological aspect of normal ageing, it is suggested to avoid fluid intake one hour
before sleeping. It is important to distinguish between difficulty or pain while
passing urine as this may be due to urinary tract infections and for men as well as

The Story of Ruth Analysis
The book of Ruth is a small section, in the bible, located in between Judges and 1
Samuel. The story of Ruth shapes the foundation for the important scriptural figure
King David in a narrative format. In the story of Ruth the characters possess Godly
traits such as loyalty and honor which will overall, create the formation of an
important biblical figure with the liking of God.
Genre
The bible can be very hard to understand if it is not read in the correct manner. Each
book in the bible contains their own style of writing. Before you read a book in the
bible you should recognize the genre that is used. The reason why it is important to
have a clear understanding of the genre is because it helps one understand the
possible outcome of the story. For example one knows that a romantic genre story
will end with a blossoming relationship. Genre classification helps stories make
sense. The book of Ruth is written as a narrative genre. A narrative must have the four

Many of the principles of the SLI focus on the necessity for faculty to collaborate
with student affairs professionals to make student learning a campus wide priority.
George Kuh (1996) used the principles in the SLI to develop six principles to guide
institutions to integrate the curriculum and extra curriculum: generate enthusiasm for
institutional renewal; create a common vision of learning; develop a common
language; foster collaboration and cross functional dialogue; examine the influence of
student cultures on student learning; and focus on systematic change. The common
element in each of the six principles is campus wide collaboration.
The cultures and functions of academic and student affairs are different enough
that there is an accepted inclination for the two to remain separate. However, it is
critical to design unique and engaging ways to encourage personnel in the two
divisions to come together in the shared purpose of improving student learning. It is
important to facilitate discussion between the two divisions. As Baxter and Baxter
(2011) explain, we need to organize our institutions in a way that engages mixed
groups of people and forces us to venture outside traditional silos (p. 70). Before
academic and student affairs personnel can create meaningful collaborative programs
and services, they need to engage in cross divisional dialogue to discuss each other s
roles,

Classroom Management Plan
Establishing a well organized plan for classroom management, at the beginning of the
year, is essential for a peaceful and calm classroom that is conducive to instruction
and learning for students with a variety of academic, social, and behavior needs. Team
Green created the classroom management plan that follows. The collaborative group
agreed that the evaluation of the student and their behaviors are essential in
promoting positive desired behaviors. Room arrangement, classroom rules, routine
and transition, as well as positive reinforcement rewards/success of task should be
evaluated and adapted to encourage positive behavior.

Classroom Rules
Simple classroom rules created by the class will provide ownership and
understanding. A daily review of the rules will reinforce expectations. The first
week of each quarter will include a review of the explanations for the rules to
reinforce the importance of rules. They will be posted throughout the classroom as
reminders for the entire class. Johnny will have a visual representation taped to the
top of his desk for continual cuing of expected behavior. (Sprick, Garrison Howard,
1998).
All students will receive cueing when displaying minor disruptive behaviors. Students
that display more disruptive behaviors such as those causing the class to stop,
running around the room, throwing items in the room, or hitting will receive
consequences (giving up their job, not earning a star, may not participate in particular
activities) for their behavior. Students that display proper behavior will be reinforced
with encouragement. (Sprick, Garrison Howard, 1998).
Classroom Routine and Transitions
The use of routines and transition plans are essential in managing student behaviors.
We will develop routines and transition plans that deter disruptive behaviors, such as
Johnny s.
The beginning class routine will include playing quiet, calming music while

I started off with two dicot plants (pinto beans) and was able to observe the sprout.
In both dicot seeds the root sprout first followed by the stalk. Once the plants had
developed mature roots they were transferred to a pot of soil where they remained
for the rest of their time. As time passed one of the pinto beanplants dried out and the
other was fertilized producing a bean pod, which can be seen in the picture for week
14. This could have occurred because of the competition that plantfaced for sunlight
and water. The surviving dicot plant was the one that sprouted first of the two,
possibly giving it a slight advantage over the other plant. Being the first to sprout
allowed it to have more time to develop it roots as well as grow. The... Show more

The cross sections demonstrated the basic differences that distinguish a monocot
plant for a dicot plant. When looking at the cross section of the monocot stem you
can see that the vascular bundles are scattered. These vascular bundles consist of
only a phloem and xylem. The phloem is responsible for transporting soluble
compounds (food) created by photosynthesis, to the rest of the plant, especially
where they are needed. The xylem is important for the movement of water
throughout the plant. Another difference that can be seen by looking at the cross
section of at stem is that the ground tissue (parenchyma) is not partitioned into pith
and cortex. In the dicot stem cross section the vascular bundles form a ring and
they are made up of a phloem, xylem, and a cambium which divides the two. The
ground tissue (parenchyma) for a dicot is separate into a pith (nutrient storage and
distribution) and a cortex (conducting tissues). The Leaf cross sections reveal the
venation of each plant. For monocots, the veins appeared run parallel to each other,
while the veins for the dicot plant had no clear pattern. The root cross sections also
displayed differences between the groups belonging to the phylum Anthophyta. The
root cross section of a monocot is formed by vascular bundles that are arrange in a
ring. In the dicot root cross section, the xylem is at the center in the form of an

ANALYSIS OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN Lucas Castelo Branco HIST 2023
10/18/2017 The Kingdom of Heaven is an epic film directed and produced by
Ridley Scott, and written by William Monahan, filmed in Morocco. The story of the
Kingdom of Heaven is set during the Crusades of the 12th century, and is basically
about the life of Balian, a French blacksmith, who defends the Kingdom of Jerusalem
against the Muslims and reclaims the city from the Christians. In this story, I could
travel back in time to experience life during the era of the Crusades and learn more
about the perspective of duty between the Christians and Muslims. To better

The Crusades were a failure in their goal of conquering the Holy Land for
Christians. They cost a lot to the European nobility and resulted in thousands of
deaths. Nevertheless, these expeditions influenced great transformations in the
medieval world. They have weakened feudal aristocracy, strengthened royal
power, and made possible the expansion of the market. Eastern civilization
contributed much to European cultural enrichment, promoting intellectual
development. Never again was Jerusalem dominated by Christians, but the
movements on the way to the Holy Land expanded relationships with the known
world at the time. The first hour of Kingdom of Heaven is decisive for the rest of
the film. It is in these moments that we will meet Balian, a blacksmith who is
devastated after he lost his wife who had committed suicide. It is important to say
that suicide was considered to be an irredeemable sin, for example, the church
believed suicide was a road to hell. Balian has no prospects in life when he receives
a visit from Baron Godfrey of Ibelin. He introduces himself as Balian s father and
invites him to become a knight and defend Jerusalem, ruled by King Baldwin IV,
who is a leper hidden behind a mask of iron. Godfrey knows the difficult moment
that Balian is going through, so he introduces him to Jerusalem (presented in the film

AFAS 101 In the short story Going to Meet the Man by James Baldwin, we see
how psychological conditioning at a young age turned an innocent minded boy
into a full bodied racist. In this short story is filled cover to cover with extensive
racism and prejudices, the reader is invited to see how apathetic a crowd of people
can be in the face of a lynching. Through a mob mentality, a young Jesse transforms
from a young man with African descendant friends, to someone today defined as a
classic bigot. The largest attribution to Jesse s hatred towards blacks can be found
in his environment. In a post Civil War south, there is a great deal of anger and
bitterness towards northern ideals. When Jessy interrogates one of the ringleaders
of the singing debacle at the local prison, he tells the ringleader, You are going to
stop your singing, I said to him, and you are going to stop coming down to the
court house and disrupting traffic and molesting the people and keeping us from
our duties and keeping doctors from getting sick white women and getting all them
Northerners in this town to give own town a bad name! (Baldwin 233). Clearly,
Jessy is not referring to the ringleader specifically, or the even the entire group. Jesse
has been conditioned at a young age that Africans are nothing but trouble and must
be dealt with. When young Jesse has a moment of angst for the well being of his
friend Otis, his father replies Otis can t do nothing. He s too little....we just want to

In the final two years of the Second World War, Canadian operations was astonishing
from the simple growth and expansion of the RCN, working alongside Britain to
engage in and manage convoy protection. Canada s naval contribution was essential
over U Boat attacks on shipping, and because of such undertakings, Canadian naval
officers conducted an ultimately successful campaign to have Canadas efforts in the
Battle of the Atlantic acknowledged by the creation of an independent Canadian
command in the northwest Atlantic. In December 1942, Canada successfully won an
administrative battle to gain responsibility for the distribution of all intelligence
concerning convoys under Canadian control, and because of complex additions to the

Moving forward, it is also highly unlikely that Britain would have survived after
the Battle of Britain had the Royal Canadian Navy not been assisting merchant
convoys crossing the Atlantic from the US and Canada. The air effort presented
similar trends as the RCN in May 1945, there were 784 aircraft in Coastal
command, with 511 used against submarines and the rest for enemy attacks.
Approximately 153,000 flight personnel were trained out of a total of 239,761 that
were engaged in British and Commonwealth flying operations, a pivotal choice in
gaining air superiority victory over the sky would never have happened so quickly
without Canada s involvement. The RCAF famously worked with the RCN
throughout the Battle of Britain, the attempt by the German war machine to
destroy Britain s Royal Air Force (RAF) and prepare for invasion after already
conquering most of Europe, including France, which was one of Canada s first
campaigns during the first nine months or so of war. Founded in 1924, the RCAF
was the smallest of Canada s services when war broke out in 1939. Attempts to
expand and improve the force up until 1935 were futile, only growing from 569 to
1,031 personnel, just enough for the needs of war. The Second World War
undoubtedly established an aircraft industry and the progression of civil aviation
formed a reserve of skilled pilots from a developed training scheme established in
Canada. The inauguration of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP)
took place, a strategy conceived by Prime Minister King to train pilots and flight
personnel in Canada, so that the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) would remain a
safe distance away from the fighting in Europe and North Africa. This allowed for

plantation where his
Grandmother took care of him and other little children. His mother was a slave, and
he did not know his father. Through Frederick s early youth, he did not understand
the unfair and brutal acts of slavery. As a young child, he alluded the humiliating and
dehumanizing experiences typical of an African American that worked the
plantations. Fortunately he never witnessed the violent overseers beat their slaves till
they drew blood or take a slave s life without repercussion.
Although Frederick passed his childhood in relatively peaceful ignorance, the ugly
side of slavery introduced itself soon enough. It took one event for him to realize
the futility and finality of living a slave life and he feared he would walk that path

In religion, stigma is a word that has always held a significant cultural impact in
human rights throughout history, in particular a significantly discriminating effect.
However, in the last century we have globally experienced cultural shifts that have
redefined the word to a more general sense. Simply type in the word stigma on any
search engine on the web and phrases such as mark of shame and negative or unfair
are common terms to describe it. So why do I bring this word to your attention?
Stigma is a word that correlates to pain, and suffering and that is one of the most
influential aspects of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, better known as HIV. To
those living in developing countries with little to no access for proper care, the word
stigma is more than just a term, but rather a way of bringing humiliation and
alienating those affected by the virus. According to the United Nation s Article I of
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: All human beings are born free and
equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should
act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. Reading this, I cannot help but
wonder how frequently this right is violated throughout third world nations suffering
from health and economic crises, such as those highly affected by HIV in the Sub
Saharan region of Africa. In the following study, I will illustrate the issues of rights,
representation, inequality,

Since 1982, the National Institute of Mental Health, along with other reputable health
organizations has collected data that connects media violence, with violent acts.
Conclusions deduced from this data prove that violent programs on television lead to
aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs. Television
violenceaffects young people of all ages, all socio economic levels, and all levels of
intelligence.
Today s children view vast amounts of violence on television. A steady diet of death,
killings, torture, and other grotesque acts may be viewed on any day by vulnerable
youth. When children are young, they are impressionable to all their surroundings,

This association has been easy to support and is substantiated in every major
scientific report released in the last twenty years. It has become general knowledge
to professional counselors and educators that excessive and unsupervised exposure
to television violence increases the use of violence to resolve conflict, while it
desensitizes these youth to acts of violence. This exposure to violence in the media
makes viewers less critical of real life violence. Since the media often represents
violence as happy violence devoid of pain, suffering, and consequences, they are not
providing the audience with an accurate or realistic portrayal of violence. Many
studies have also confirmed a cumulative effect of exposure to violence as
researchers have traced patterns from childhood exposure to adult social behavior.
The National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence was in charge
of investigating these issues and making recommendations to the President. The
media s task force report was titled, Violence and the Media. Conclusions drawn
from this report show that real violence was caused in part by the desire of action
groups for media attention; and that violence in society could be reduced if the news
gave groups the ability to enhance their communication. A particular focus of the

Comparisons of Little Brother and 1984 Living in a society where the government is
constantly watching and monitoring everything a person does can cause many

government is doing, they want to take action into their own hands. In the
contemporary novel, Little Brother, and in the classic novel, 1984, this in one of the
main challenges that the protagonists have to go through and try to figure out how to
stop the government.

Throughout the contemporary and classic novels, there are a few similarities the
two books share. In both books, Little Brother and 1984, the protagonists are faced
with living in a society where the government has control on most of their life.
However, the two books are a little different in how to governement is controlling
their lives. In Little Brother, Marcus Yallow, has noticed that the government is
spying on the people by tracking their computers, phones, and even their cars. While
Marcus is noticing all of this going on many other people in the community have no
idea. In 1984, Winston Smith s town is being watched by telescreens that are placed

is the protagonist s braveness.

Christians and Muslims, which was known to be the world s first largest suicide
bombing to occur in mankind. Indeed, ever since that tragic experience the world
has seen a rise of such tactics over the following decades. With the bombings that
have occurred over time, researchers came up with the conclusion that most of these
bombings are caused by adolescents. For instance, Patrick Markey asserts in a 2016

important, because you make an impact in the drought. In California the drought has

but why are we still in a drought? Well, because since we were in the drought, we
need to restore the water and take it all, and after we do that we will have no extra

I think the audience liked it that way, very straight to the point. The audience of a
typical Shakespeare play has a wide social range. All kinds of people, from
ambassadors to apprentices came to watch them. The audience loved the special
use of, and play with language, and the rapid pace on stage. The culture of an
audience at that time was very oral, the spectators always had a witty comment up
their sleeve and did not hesitate to shout a response to the actors on stage. This
made the actors both actors and people, a certain duality was played at. All of the
actors of the Elizabethan time were men. It was against the law to allow women on
stage, at least in the big public plays. Women were by far the weaker sex, despite of
having a queen running the country.
The props used in this play were few but adequate. Both the props and the costumes
were well made and played an important role in making the play successful. Some
critics have said that this play is an attack on Puritanism, where Malvolio
represents the puritan who is quite disliked by everybody around him. The name
malvolio bears a strong resemblance to the Latin words mal voglio , which means
ill will. Maybe it is because the character Malvolio is so self absorbed and gullible,
that Shakespeare gave him this particular name? Maybe the critics were partly right?
