Etiological Causes Of Death s Poor Diets And Inactivity
Alice Sekimonyo
HLTH 3105
Dr Piper I have learned that etiological causes of death are not diseases but they are what make us
sick in the first place. Good examples of etiological causes of death incudes poor diets and
inactivity. An epidemiological scientific study of racism classified racismas being an etiological
factor for diseases and injuries. Since then, many others researches have been focused on its
measurement and how racism plays a major role in health disparities. Despite the lack of agreement
on the definition of racism, we cannot deny that racism is a factor that has affected the quality of
life of certain groups of people throughout the history. Oxford dictionary defines discrimination as
the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the
grounds of race, age, or sex (Oxford). Discrimination has been related to depression and anxiety
that lead to a poor general health outcome. The concept of racism can be defined as being
discriminated against because of one s skin color. In the 13th annual summer public health video
conference in minority health at the University of North Carolina Chapel, four presenters carefully
discuss about whether or not racism is really making us sick by looking at different approaches and
perspectives.
In order to understand how racism making us sick, it is important to first understands what social
determinants of health are and how they can impact our health. The WHO defines

The Effects of the Video Game Industry on Japan
Much in the world today is of Japanese origin. Indeed, Japanese influence can be seen all over the
worldВ—on television, in comic books, in video games, in electronics, in the film industry, and
even in music. In fact, currently, 60% of all the cartoon shows being broadcast on television the
world over are from Japan. (Croal) Indeed Japanese anime characters have established a
substantial base of fans in Europe and North America (Shuhei). Similarly, the Japanese video game
industry has been very successful in the world. It has proven to have many positive effects on the
world, even though many people have repeatedly tried and failed to vilify it. Perhaps one of the
most important industries in modern Japan, video games have both... Show more content on

His talents were soon realized for what they were, and his rising positions within the company
eventually led him to become a designer for games. His first game Donkey Kong was a smash
hit. In modern video games there has been a rising emphasis on music, especially since there
was none or very little in the video games of old, because it can alter the reviews of games,
leading to success or failure. This weight put on music makes jobs for composers, synthesizers,
and music directors, the soundtracks even selling as well as pop music. (Kohler) In fact, these
musicians work is so profitable to the industry (and indeed commonplace) that programmer
Fumito Ueda chuckled in response to a question regarding the idea of taking out even the music
from his mainly dialogue less game. He said, If I took out the music, it would be even harder to
bond with Ico [the name of the main character and the game itself], even if the players had
maximum sound effects. (Kohler, 253) Video game companies have also had to hire marketing
experts and people to work in their sales departments, and they have had to also send their games
to production houses where they are produced and made ready to sell. Stats of video game jobs

Escapism In Match Point
Match Point, the film which critics call a surprising rebirth (Neher 554) is Allen s darkest and
most misanthropic film, and tells the story of the Irish tennis player, Chris Wilton, who works in
a London high end club as a tennis instructor, when he meets Tom Hewett. Tom s sister Chloe, a
rather boring woman, shows interest in Chris and the two become a couple, and Chloe grants
him access to the upper class of London and a financially secure future. His life begins to skid
when he begins an affair with Tom s fiancГ©e Nola, a struggling American actress. Nola satisfies
his sexual desires, whereas Chloe only wants to have regulated intercourse in order to become
pregnant. For a while, Chris leads a double life but when Nola, not Chloe, becomes pregnant, she

In Match Point, Chris Wilton starts to play tennis because it was a way out of poverty and offers
a more glamorous life. When he decides not to pursue this career, he goes to London to work as
a tennis instructor, still not knowing what he wants to do with his life. Over dinner, he mentions
how he had to wash cars to make a living, similar to the life of Nola Rice. She escapes from her
rural life in Boulder Colorado, where she comes from a broken home. She tells Chris that she
never went to college, her sister is a drug addict, her father left her family early, and that her
mother, also an alcoholic, had to take care of the family, but could not hold any job. Therefore,
she sent Nola to beauty pageants, where her insecurity started. Nola, always known as the sexy
vamp, is in fact a vulnerable woman (one divorce and two abortions), who only wants to be loved
by a man. Chris and Nola both want to climb up the social latter, which indicates a deeper and
blunt character; they are hungry in ways the Hewett s will never need to be (Cooper

Childhood Depression And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity...
Childhood Mental Disorders, such as anxiety, depression and attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder, are chronic health conditions that present between birth and age 18.1 Mental disorders
are characterized as a combination of abnormal thoughts, emotions, and behaviors 2 that may
impair a child s functioning in school, at home, and in everyday life. They are caused by a
combination of biological and environmental factors i.e. a family history of anxiety and living
below the poverty line. CDC estimates that twenty percent of children in the United States currently
suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder3 yet 75 80% of affected individuals do not receive

$1 billion is spent annually on medical costs associated with children and adolescents attempted and
completed suicides, 90% of which are committed by mentally disordered individuals. Mental
disorders also impose devastating costs on children s social and emotional wellbeing by impacting
the child s ability to regulate impulses and emotions, understand feelings, develop empathy and
confidence, form relationships, and communicate effectively. Children with unidentified mental
disorders experience increased rates of involvement with the Juvenile Criminal Justice System. The
National Alliance of Mental Health estimates that more 70% of incarcerated youth have at least
one diagnosable mental disorder. Adolescents with mental disorders are also significantly more
likely to make lower grades and to drop out of high school; 10% of high school dropouts may be
attributable to untreated mental disorders.

How Associability Is Defined As The Links And Connections...
Associability is defined as the links and connections made between a stimuli and a response.
There have been many theories discussing what aspects of associability make it successful and
what can be done to clarify precisely how it works in an out of experiment setting. Two
predominant theories are to be discussed with compelling evidence for two very different
explanations of associability and how its change can be explained.
The first of these two theories is N.J. Mackintosh (1975). He refers to many past theories of
attention and how they are not suitable for discussing the associability of stimuli with
reinforcement (Mackintosh, 1975, p. 276) stating his new theory answers some unqualified
assumptions. Previous theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These relationships also interact with the second assumption he finds made by previous theories;
that stimuli compete for attention (Mackintosh, 1975, p.281). His discussion of overshadowing
and blocking, which I shall discuss later, lead him to his conclusion of relevance, where more
attention is paid to relevant stimuli and less to irrelevant stimuli such as where the stimuli only
leads to a predicted reinforcement (Mackintosh, 1975). Both this conclusion and the former, where
change of О± potential leads to a change in performance in an experiment have large impacts for
associability. They appear to imply that in cases of associative change where a subject s focus
switches from one thing to another, it is not the case that they do not have the mental capacity to
focus on both things but they merely attend to those that provide it with its most rewarding option
(ibid.).
Mackintosh s conclusions have drawn support, in particular M.E. LePelley and I.P.L. McLaren
(2003). They apply Mackintosh s theory to humans in an experiment where after being given a
list of potential allergens and outcomes, subjects are to assess which foods they feel a fictitious
Mr. X. (LePelley and McLaren, 2003, p.72) should avoid. The second stage involves Mr. Y. (ibid.)
and based on previous associations made, subjects are asked to assess for him too. Mackintosh s
(1975) predictions would be that

Black Texans Essay
When one thinks of African American history in the United States, images of slavery and the
antebellum south are what invariably come to mind. While these images are indeed apt and
applicable to understanding black history in the United States, as Alwyn Barr demonstrates in his
text Black Texans: A History of African Americans in Texas, 1528 1995, the history of African
Americans in the U.S. date farther back than slavery and encompasses regions other than what has
become known as the deep south.
Evaluating the book overall, it is evident that Barr s central purpose for writing the book was to
make clear how the black community and culture developed in Texas. While this is not implicitly
stated, the chronological context of the books ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because little historical discourse on blacks in Texas has been published, Barr must rely on
primary sources as his main focus for research. Although some secondary material is used,
especially for analysis of modern black communities in Texas, Barr widely utilizes primary
information. Seeking to assess the effectiveness of this method, it is evident that while some of the
information presented in the text is somewhat dry, primary source material was best suited to meet
the author s objectives overall. Because primary sources are the central focus of the work, the
integrity of what Barr writes cannot be refuted.
Examining how the book enhances the reader s understanding of Texas history, it could be
asserted that Barr s exposition provides a considerable amount of insight into the development not
only of the black community but also the development of the state in general. Barr shows that
blacks played an integral role in the development of Texas: a fact that is often overlooked by many
historians. Even though the book provides a considerable amount of insight, however, it is overall
quite dry. As such, the book would probably be useful for history students, graduate students and
instructors looking to discover more about Texas or black history.
Even though the text is dense at times, the author does a compelling job of presenting the

Ashmore v. J.P. Thayer Co.
Citation
Ashmore v. J. P. Thayer Co., 303 F. Supp. 2d 1359 (M.D. Ga. 2004).
Statement of Facts
Marcus Ashmore and Terrell Lee Green were maintenance workers for J.P. Thayer Co., Inc. under
supervisor Gene Fye. After a particular incident of harassment on January 16, 2001, Plaintiffs
reported Fye to Tricia Johnson, the Assistant Property Manager. At this time, Johnson did nothing
about the complaint. The harassment continued, and on January 26, Plaintiffs complained to the
Property Manager, Mary Frances de Rivera. In response, de Rivera verbally reprimanded Fye.
This, however, did not stop Fye s harassment. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant,
Plaintiffs hired an attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were
going to file charges of discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by
Defendant. This came three days after getting the letter and about a month after the initial
harassment complaints.
Procedural History
The Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.
The verdict of the jury found the Defendant liable and was in favor of the Plaintiffs. Defendant
then filed a motion for a new trial for judgment as a matter of law.
Issue Presented
Should J. P. Thayer Co., Inc. be held liable for the harassment of supervisor, Gene Fye.

real world, from the things that weigh on my mind, from my daily struggles. Music has always
been something I ve always enjoyed and know the most about since I was a young. Music in

to be a very important part of the musicworld. The history of The Rock Roll Hall of Fame
Museum also plays an important role in music. The Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum is in
Cleveland Ohio, on the shore of Lake Erie. The Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum was built with
money raised by The Rock Roll Hall of Fame foundation that was started in 1983. The foundation
had not decided on a city to put the Museum in. Above all the cities that had petitioned for the
museum to be built there, it was Cleveland that won with more than 600,000 signatures on the
petition. Not only did Cleveland have a very big fan support it is also the home of the radio man

How Does Shakespeare Use Metaphors In Romeo And Juliet
Language can change the way we read a passage. Authors write in a way that the reader can feel
a certain way. If authors didn t write their books like this reading would be boring. In Romeo and
Juliet Shakespeare wrote so that you could feel the love between them. In John Green s The
fault in our stars he uses metaphors. Martin Luther King, jr` a strong persuasive voice, he could
use this to make his speeches even stronger than they already were. Romeo and Juliet is a drama
about a boy and a girl different families who fall in love with each other. Shakespeare uses the
power of his love to show how strong their love is for each other. In scene 5, act 3 Juliet wakes
up to find her beloved Romeo dead next to her. She takes his dagger and turns it on herself. She
loved him so much that when she saw his dead body laying their she killed herself so that she
could still be with him. When Romeo sees Juliet for the first time he knows that she is the woman

He does this Because if you just read it you won t get anything from it. Some things in this book
you really have to think about and look at it s other meaning. For example, on page nine teen
Gus has the cigarette; this is a metaphor because he says that can only hurt you if you light it.
What this means is that you can have something deadly, but it won t hurt you unless you play
with it. Another example of this is when Hazel goes to het support group in the literal heart of
Jesus . Why does she say this? The support group is not in the actual heart of Jesus. The support
group is held in a church basement; the basement is shaped like a cross. The group meets in the
middle of the cross basement. When a you read a metaphor like this you have to think about it.
Authors use metaphors many times to make you think, Metaphors also give stories a little more

Disneyland and its Offerings
This is the place where every kid begs to go. This is the place where adults enjoy going also. It s
the place where dreams come true , Disneyland. Located in Anaheim, California, this popular
amusement park is known all over the world for its entertainment, park rides, Disney characters,
and so much more. Here, children laugh and play while adults enjoy tours or spend the day at the
spa. Either way, both parties will experience the time of their lives. There is so much scenery for
the eyes to enjoy here. From the bright lights, to the extravagant decorations, and to the tall castle
buildings; its elaborate factors cease to exist. This is what sets Disneyland apart from its fellow
amusement parks. The park continues to grow with new things each year. There are so many
awesome things that Disneyland rewards us with.
This tourist attraction was founded by Walt Disney in 1955 (Disneyland Amusement Park). When
this amusement park was first created it wasn t like other amusement parks at the time. Unlike
traditional parks, Walt Disney had a vision of not just having rides but making it a place where
Disneyland is known for its entertainment also. Walt Disney was a cartoon genius (Disneyland
Amusement Park). A lot of his works, most popular being Mickey Mouse, were brought into the
theme of the park. Bringing cartoons like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to the amusement
park brought in joy. While walking through the park one may encounter costumes of, Tinker Bell
and other Disney characters. For children and adults, seeing these cartoon characters depicted in
real life, reminds one of happier times. This stood as a trademark for Disneyland. An atmosphere
of optimism, patriotism, and fun are three of the many goals Walt Disney set to achieve
(Disneyland s History). With this in mind things needed to be fixed and changes needed to be
made. When the parked opened up in 1955, there were many speculations that the heavy investment
Disney put in to the park would not be beneficial in return (Disneyland Amusement Park). Walt
Disney spent a lot of money on his vision. Disney projected that he would need eleven

Elaboration Likelihood Model
When designing a persuasion campaign, multiple factors need to be considered. The Elaboration
Likelihood Model, can support the designing of a persuasive campaign. The model concludes,
individuals will be persuaded differently, based on their age, intelligence and self efficacy. It is
crucial to determine your audience, knowing your audience will enable understanding of already
established self efficacy levels of students. Proceeding to determining the self efficacy level of the

The elaboration likelihood model states that persuasion can be take two different routes, central or
peripheral. The central route requires a person to think critically about the argument proposed,

peripheral route does refer to the attempts at persuasion, in which the change in attitude is a result
associated with positive stimuli popularity, an attractive model or a millionaire, which could be
relevant to substance of the argument. Selling products by associating them with attractive models
or either by promoting that the product will result in social benefits. This is the result of peripheral

The plastic and cedar direct materials both had unfavorable flexible budget variances. It is
unfavorable because they under budgeted the cost of the direct materials they were going to

or they switched suppliers and had to pay more. The cedar also had an unfavorable price and
efficiency variance, while the plastic had an unfavorable efficiency variance. In order to
improve this, they need to try to stay consistent with their suppliers so that there is less of a
variance. They also need to watch market trends more to see whether people are wanting to buy
bird houses, because if they are, then they should budget a higher number of units sold, or vice

Modern-day Indian Breaking the Shackles of Caste and the...
Breaking the Shackles of Caste and the Past
Aravind Adiga effectively captures the true image of modern India through the story of the fictional
character Balram Halwai. The novel takes the reader through the struggles of class that exist in
India at a time when the country is undergoing rapid modernization and globalization. The novel
contradicts the exotic image of India that is generally represented in literature (for example, the
stories of Rudyard Kipling.) Instead the novel familiarizes us with the complications that have
emerged in modern India in the last half century post independence and the abolition of
untouchability.
Throughout the novel Balram Halwai, the protagonist and the narrator, alludes to the issue of
social mobility in the new social hierarchy of India. He discusses how the social hierarchy has
undergone massive changes since the colonial times. Like we learned in class, there is
considerable social mobility among the castes in India today (Week 5, Lecture 1). Adiga illustrates
this transition and clash of ideologies in relation to caste beautifully through the various characters.
On one hand is Mr. Ashok, who having being educated in America believes that the caste system is
a thing of the past and on the other hand is his father, who still believes that caste lines are rigid
and cannot be dissolved.
Balram (like most other characters in the novel) believes in strict caste hierarchy and that India in
the days of its greatness was a more orderly

Film Techniques In The Graduate
The film elements montage, subjective camera, and left to right and right to left to portray that

Throughout the film, the director uses a montage to prove that Ben is in a constant routine that he

When he gets off the plane at the beginning of the movie, he is moving in the opposite direction
of everyone else. This indicates the fact that Ben feels isolated from society and has not yet
found his role in it. Everyone around Ben has such high hopes for his future, but he does not
seem to care about it. Instead, he is going through life the opposite way of others after graduating
from college by lounging by the pool all day and being involved with a married woman. Ben is
very weak and indecisive and cannot seem to figure out what he wants to do with his life since
graduating. All of the choices that Ben makes seem to be very irrational and not very thought
out. For example, he drops everything and goes to Berkeley in hopes of marrying Elaine after
only going on one date together. Also, he brushes off advice concerning his future like when the
guy at his party tells him that he should invest in plastics. However, he seems to have no interest
in becoming successful or going to graduate school as he appears to be lost and traveling in the

When dealing with shortage of manpower is a situation a little easier to handle because more hours
could be offered to employees in an effort to maintain the productivity of the shop.
5. Outline a strategy for workforce diversity. A diverse workforce is very important for any
business to adapt to the always changing demographics. It is especially important for the coffee
shop to embrace diversity given the location of the business. My strategy would be first, to
develop a hiring strategy to make your workforce resemble the community you operate in. Another
easy practice to create a diverse workforce would be to ask existing employees for referrals. Last,
but not least, talking to the community organizations to help find candidates.
Provide diversity training in your workplace. Diversity training is a vital element of a diversity
initiative and signifies the chance for the Coffee Shop, as the employer, to inform and educate the
employees about diversity. The goal of diversity training is not only to create and increase
awareness of workplace diversity, but also to grow and boost skills among employees to help them
communicate more profoundly in the future. Differences in race, sexual orientation, education and
work experience can cause tremendous damage between employees and to the business as well.

Bromination Of Trans-Cinnamic Acid And Trans-Stilbene.
Bromination of trans cinnamic acid and trans stilbene
INTRODUCTION
Determining how a mechanism takes place is crucial in order to define a mechanism. In this
experiment, a mechanism was determined based on the purified product s melting point. This was
accomplished by comparing the acquired melting point with the one provided by Professor Link.
(Q1) When 0.252 g of trans cinnamic acid was mixed in 2.5 mL glacial acetic acid and introduced
to 0.434g pyridinium tribromide, the resulting product reflects an addition reaction. In general,
reactions take place to achieve its lowest Gibb s free energy because it s at this point where a
structure is most stable; in this case, the reaction is an addition of bromine into alkenes. (Q2) ...

The melting point range was close to the anti structure, but because it was a widened range it is
speculated that the syn structure was also present. (Q9) However, this does not mean the other
mechanisms are completely discarded. Upon recrystallizing the pure product, a gross mistake
potentially skewed the results; non DI water from the ice bath was introduced to the crystallized
product by mistake. Recrystallization of the pure product was redone, but random ions from the
ice bath could have infiltrated the crystal lattice of the pure product thereby widening the
melting range. Also, the melting range could have been affected by the temperature intervals
used; time was running out and the Digi Melt was programmed to increase in intervals of 10В°C
instead of 5В°C. This could have affected the melting range observed significantly; slow and
steady probes to be a better method. (Q10) Both the percent yield (106.5%) and recovery
(54.75%) are not ideal numbers; ideally, percentages should be close to 100% but not over or
under. As mentioned above, (in Q9), a gross mistake occurred where non DI water got into the
pure product as it was recrystallizing; the flask s buoyancy caused it to tip over and the non DI
water from the ice bath got inside the pure product. This affected the data as electrolytes from the
ice bath could now be part of the crystal lattice of the pure

Carol s Search For Power In Oleanna
In Christine Macleod s essay, The Politics of Gender, Language and Hierarchy in Mamet s
Oleanna , she uses an approach that differs from the common belief by critics that supports the idea
in which David Mamet comments about political correctness in his play titled, Oleanna . Through
the analysis of the play, along with numerous sources, Macleod argues her own idea that describes
usual spectators of the theatrical often dwelling on the antagonist s Carol s advantage over the
protagonist, John, as a result of her gender. In fact, Macleod argues that it is Carol s struggle for
power that truly places her in a negative light, resulting in this power being the true engagement
within the play. Despite holding a viewpoint which deeply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
While she is correct in saying that the grab for power within the play is fundamentally important
to the plot, she is incorrect in arguing that this is the key idea that Mamet wanted to achieve. For
example, she neglects the fact that most of Carol s statements revolve around calling John out
on his sexist remarks. Every accusation that Carol makes centres on the idea that John makes,
demeaning [...] sexist remark[s] and that they are pornographic . Carol truly believes that John
has exploited her and had intention to rape her. In her essay, Macleod completely ignores this
and discusses how the rape accusation was a linguistic distortion . She fails to realize the fact
that Carol is essentially naive, and gains power over her professor as she further believes that
she is sexually exploited. Carol especially becomes more powerful as she turns to her group for
guidance. If Carol truly believes that she is being harassed, her friends will believe her plea for
help and support her through it. Unless Carol s accusations are one large ploy by a very clever
group that lack sensible morals a feat that seems very unlikely against a professor who is about
to be rewarded tenure for 20 years of teaching than Carol s intentions were never to arrest her
professor, but to seek help with her education. Carol s lack of experience expresses how she
would be otherwise incapable of even attaining more power something she never wanted if it
was not for her group and her gender. The fundamentals of Macleod s ideas are that the story is
built on the struggle for a power a point that she cannot prove infallibly. Macleod s greatest flaw
in her essay is that she fails to realize that both John and Carol gained power through their
advantage of a combination of status in John s case, and then gender in Carol s case. However,
their level of power

Antwone Dream Analysis
Psychodynamic therapists find that free association is helpful in treating their clients because it
allows them to say whatever comes to mind. The client is encouraged to talk about anything and
everything seeing as it may help them accept any kind of limitations or discord they may have. This
process of treatment would not be the best route for Antwone s therapist to take. Antwone struggles
in creating conversation out of nothing and when it comes to talking about his issues, that process
is no different.
Dream analysis, however, could be an effective way for a counselor to treat the problems that
Antwone is having. As a currently angry individual, Antwone recalls some of the dreams he was
having when trying to sleep. The movie opens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many concepts that can be used to help conceptualize the problems that Antwone Fisher
experiences.
To begin conceptualizing Antwone s feelings through an Adlerian lens, a counselor might try to
spot inferiority feelings within the client. These feelings are always present and ultimately act as a
motivating force behind an individual s outward behavior. One could argue that Antwone s
inferiorities stem from the abuse he suffered at such a young age, which halted the average
development most humans encounter. In order for an individual to overcome these inferiorities,
they begin to act in compensative behaviors. Since Antwone s traumas began in infancy, he never
had any kind of stable environment and the one in which he was finally placed (the Tate s) caused
him to quickly feel inferior. Antwone may have ultimately developed an inferiority complex
because he was never able to compensate his inferiority feelings as an infant. The inferiority
complex that Antwone developed has prevented him from being able to cope with the demands of
life enabling him to use violence as a way to forget.
Antwone s problems can be further conceptualized when thinking about social interest and
community feeling. Social interest is being concerned about others just as much as an individual is
concerned about oneself. Community feeling is concerned with feeling connected to all of
humanity. Antwone, throughout the movie, is seen drawing, writing, and

and evil, and through the lines of the book take place the thoughts of criticism that flow through
the river of philosophy on the terrain of satire, is a short novel of François

In other words; Voltaire harmonizes philosophy, criticism and encountering with
the other
from the eyes of naГЇve Candide, the main character that darts himself to the adventures in the
name of love that he feels for CunГ©gonde and meets with people around the world with his deep
curiosity. So, in this essay; notions of philosophy, optimism and the approach to the other of
Voltaire, embodied in the main character Candide, are going to be the subject of discussion. Firstly,
to start with notions of philosophy and optimism, the character Pangloss is the key point.
Pangloss philosophy of optimism resembles the notions of German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm
Leibniz, as Leibniz stated that
I laid it down that God, having chosen the most perfect of all possible worlds, had been prompted
by his wisdom to permit the evil Büyükçulhacı

considered, the best that could be chosen.

Thematic Comparison of The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams is regarded as a pioneering playwright of American theatre. Through his plays,
Williams addresses important issues that no other writers of his time were willing to discuss,
including addiction, substance abuse, and mental illness. Recurring themes in William s works
include the dysfunctional family, obsessive and absent mothers and fathers, and emotionally
damaged women. These characters were inspired by his experiences with his own family. These
characters appear repeatedly in his works with their own recurring themes. Through The Glass
Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williamspresents the similar thematic
elements of illusion, escape, and fragility between the two plays, proving that although similar, the
themes within these plays are not simply recycled, as the differences in their respective texts
highlight the differences of the human condition.
The characters of A Streetcar Named Desire and The Glass Menagerie are bound to their own
hold on illusions as a means of coping. In A Streetcar Named Desire, the character of Blanche
exemplifies the hold of illusion when she says, I don t want realism. I want magic! Blanche
exemplifies the idea of delusion as a means of coping. In The Glass Menagerie, the character Tom
Wingfield sets the tone of the play with his opening monologue in which he says, I give you truth in

Different Sources Of Finance And Different Legal Systems

across countries (e.g. different sources of finance and different legal systems). In your answer,
summarise the differences and any similarities between the development factors of China and
Australia.
It seems that the key issue facing global financial markets and international investors is worldwide
accounting diversity as considerable differences exist across countries which inevitably leads to
chaos in global capital markets as different amounts are being reported on balance sheets and
income statements (Doupnik Perera, 2012, p. 23). This type of environment can create extensive

Source of funding is regarding who owns the shares in the most powerful listed companies within
each nation. The major sources of financing for business are either family members, banks,
governments, or shareholders (Doupnik Perera, 2012, p. 29). For example, due to being a
communist state with very little opportunity for private ownership, China s major company
financing is dominated by the Chinese government as well as their government controlled banks
(Fernando, 2010). This can be seen in one of China s largest companies, Petro China, as its
controlling shareholder, the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), is wholly state owned
(PetroChina, 2015). Sources of finance from governments and their government controlled banks
means that there is less pressure for public accountability and information disclosure (Doupnik
Perera, 2012, p. 29). In contrast, Australia runs a free market economy where private business
enterprises seem to dominate. This can be seen in one of Australia s largest companies, BHP, who
are privately owned by millions of dispersed shareholders such as private investors, superannuation
funds and corporations (Stockzoa, 2016). This is important to note as more information is
available and demand for disclosure occurs the more privately owned companies are dependent on
funding from the general population (Doupnik Perera, 2012, p. 30).

Questions On Non Financial Firms
1. Introduction
The 2007 2008 crisis started off in August 2007 as a subprime mortgage crisis primarily
concentrated in the United States but quickly metamorphosized into a global financial crisis where
financial institutions teeter on the edge of bankruptcy in many countries in addition to the United
States. A global economic crisis ensues in which nonfinancial firms around the world appear to
spiral downward as well. A key potential contributor to the plight of the non financial firms is the
financial crisis itself, in the form of a negative shock to the supply of external finance needed by
non financial firms. However, as the two quotes by some leading policymakers and scholars at the
beginning of the paper indicate, the idea that non financial firms suffer from a strongly negative
supply of finance shock is not universally shared. In addition, if non financial firms do not do well,
there can certainly be other causes, such as a contraction of demand for their products.
This paper has three objectives. First, it aims to develop a simple framework that can capture and
quantify the relative importance of the finance shock to the economic health of non financial firms.
Second, in a cross country context, it aims to investigate whether the responsiveness of the real
economy to a given finance shock varies by country features that the literature suggests that could
matter, such as the type of a financial system, the nature of a monetary and exchange rate regime, or
the extent

Essay on Message Sent To Children About Gender Identity
When discussing the meaning of gender identity, each and every person has a different view and
perception. Most times, these views are instilled upon them throughout their childhood whether
they are fully aware of it or not. As a result, some children feel forced to conform to the
stereotypical gender roles and identities defined by society. For me, however, that was never a
problem.
The many experiences I faced throughout my childhood played a significant and defining role in the
shaping of my gender identity. As a young child my favorite toys were dolls and stuffed animals,
and quite often my parents found me setting up tea parties or playing house. While my parents did

Although most of the time it was never a major problem, as we got older we found that we had
increasingly less in common due to the kinds of toys we played with and our differing interests
overall. He was into trains and anything sports related, whereas I loved arts and crafts and playing
with dolls. While we were always able to find something to do, it was if we had to cross a barrier of
discomfort to get to that point. In a sense, it was almost like those other toys were foreign to us.
As a child, I was under the impression that as a girl you wore dresses, loved the colors pink and
purple, and played with dolls. I am not sure if that was because those are the thing I chose to do
as a child, or if it was a result of the things I was surrounded by and heard while growing up,
although it was probably a combination of both. I distinctly remember the day my mom asked
me whether I wanted to take ballet or soccer. I adamantly told her that I wanted to take ballet
because soccer was for boys. She told me that both boys and girls played soccer, however, that
didn t change my mind. I was a girlie girl, and I don t believe anything anyone could have done
would have changed that. In third grade, there was a boy in my ballet class. While we were told
by our ballet teacher that many boys take dance classes, many of us girls found it strange at first.
He continued dancing at our studio for a few years, and I later

Social Pressure From Family And Time Spent On Aerobic...
Also, Figure 2 displays the link between perceived social pressure from family and time spent
participating in aerobic exercise per week. The relationship between these two variables was
very weak and insignificant, r(206)= .04, p=.558, as summarized in Table 1. The threshold
significant p value for data is p .05. From our data, we can conclude that the weak correlation
between social pressure from family and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise is likely
due to chance and is therefore insignificant. Lastly, Figure 3 shows the connection between social
pressure from important figures in the participant s life and the amount of time spent on aerobic
exercise. The link between our independent and dependent variable here was positive and weak,
r(206)= .17, p=.013, as summarized in Table 1. Although the relationship between social
pressure from important figures in the participant s life and time spent on aerobic exercise is
weak, this finding is significant. Since our calculated p value from our Pearson s correlation test
was very small, our positive correlational finding was not likely due to chance. Therefore we can
loosely state that as social pressure from important figures in the participant s life increases,
amount of time spent on aerobic exercise also increases. Discussion Due to how often young
people attend social events and functions, we predicted that social pressure would be a key
indicator for our participants exercise habits. We

population, the increasing terrorist threat, and a new state of mind in terms of what government
should look like. Each branch of the federal system plays a key role in controlling the populace.
The Executive branch handles day to day maintenance of the federal government, makes sure laws
are enforced and carried out, as well as represents the U.S. to foreign interests. The Legislative
branch passes laws and allocates funds for use in running the federal government and providing

On A Rainy Day By Tim O Brien
Literary Analysis On On A Rainy Day
Tim O Brien begins the narration by explaining the harsh reality of having to explain the narration.
In his depiction as a narrator, he expresses the emotional portrayal of the recitation with abysmal
descriptions such as embarrassment for all of us , feeling the shame , and trying to push it away .
Having mentioned his family s unawareness of his thoughts on the topic highlights the shame he
has endured. This is important in understanding the importance of the event because having not told
his family, those an individual presumably trusts with inner thoughts, enhances the depth of tone
and meaning of the story. Given the emotional impact within the plot, the reader is instantly forced
to picture the expressive imagery of the story. As the introduction unravels, the narrator expresses
his loss of courage and bravery he once believed all people are thought to inherit during their
childhood. As the theme of embarrassment is developed, a clear mental image of the severity of
having to fight a battle that is not your own is drawn out for the reader.
As a draft in the Vietnam War, O Brien talks of a war he hated . He defines this event in a dreadful
and confusing light. Conveying his personal dissatisfaction of the combat by stating the Five W s,
who, what where, when, why, which question the rationality and certainty, or lack thereof, of the
civil war. Many of his own convictions were displayed by continuous questioning of events in

better than being a somebody. To the poet anonymity is preferable to fame and fortune.
Dickinson implies that being a nobody has advantages, she would rather blend in with the crowd
than stand out and be judged or criticized. The poet insinuates that the way most of us feel in our
society and what our role is in it is easier to live in and control as long as we don t stand out and

audience Who are you? . In the first stanza the author begins with a claim in which she states that
she is a nobody; being a nobody is preferable to being a somebody. The poet begins this poems by
calling out her audience with the purpose of creating a relationship with them and relating to
those who feel like a minority in the society the reside in; she wants them to know that
occasionally being a minority is not a bad thing. Dickinson gives off the impression that being a
nobody is decent, private, and selfless without the need of being recognized by those around us. In
her eyes, somebody s are those who are loud, egotistical, and crave worships from their community.
The tone of this poem is mocking, the poet mocks those somebody s with bloated egos, who
believe they are above others and often need the admiration of

Atomic Bombs On Japan
On the 6th of August 1945, the American bomber, Enola Gay, dropped an atomic bomb over the
Japanese city of Hiroshima. Immediately, 80 000 people were killed. Tens of thousands more
died in the following weeks from wounds and radiation poisoning. On the 9th of August, another
bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki, killing between 40 000 and 50 000 more people. The
question is, was it necessary for the Unites States to drop the atomic bombs on Japan? In my
opinion, the United States was justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Japan. During the course
of the Second World War, the United States suffered the loss of more than 418 000 lives, both
military officials and civilians. This was one of the reasons why the United States wanted the

Essay on Male Circumcision Debate
Male circumcision has long been a debate with decisions based on cultural, ethnic, religious and
social preference of the parent. There are both benefits and risks associated with the procedure of
male circumcision. The procedure involves the removal of some or, the entire foreskin around the
penis. Neonatal circumcision is rising among English speaking countries and it is known now that
more than 80% of the male population has been circumcised. (CDC, 2006) This number is rising
however; studies show that there is insufficient evidence to recommend neonatal circumcision as a
routine decision. (AAP, 2006). Many debates of this procedure relate to the benefits versus the risk
and medical costs that the procedure entails. This paper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results of this study show that after 2 years there was a 53% less change of acquiring HIV
in the circumcised males. (Science Daily, 2007) This study does not seem valid to me due to the
fact that the age gap is very wide, the sexual practice and preference were not stated, doesn t
include number of partners, whether sex was protected or unprotected, and doesn t state whether
these men were sharing needles if using drugs. There were several other studies conducted that
showed an increase in risk of STD s with uncircumcised males and I also question the validity of
these studies due to the same questionable variables in the HIV studies. The most common risks
associated with neonatal circumcision include loss of penile sensation, bleeding, infection,
unsatisfactory cosmesis because of excess skin, skin bridges, and urinary retention. Most
complications are minor and studies show that there is a 0.2% to 0.6% complication rate. (WHO,
2009) More drawbacks of circumcision can include different elements that effect sexual function.
The removed foreskin is erogenous tissue that contains a number of nerve endings that can
contribute to the sexual response of the penis. When retracted, the foreskin provides loose skin on
the shaft of the penis, which facilitates sexual intercourse. Also, the foreskin is a protector of the
sensitive glans that can lose sensitivity from constant exposure

Emerson Nature
Since the beginning of time, man had lived harmoniously with nature; the two coexisted and
formed a bong that could never be severed. As this bond grew, it permeated mankind s soul in that
man needs nature and it is to their benefit that they utilize it to the best of their ability. Thereafter, it
became universally acknowledged that man needs nature. In Emerson s time the 1800 s many thing
had yet to be discovered, so when Emerson pondered and took a deeper look into nature, he noted
his discoveries in his essay: Nature . In his essay, he focuses in on the relationship between man and
nature which holds very true today.
First, Emerson points out that nature provides for man, as if Mother Nature is a commodity or a
valuable thing. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Deductive Bible Studies
One of the major things that I took from the readings is the process of approaching the scripture. I
have always been what I thought was a stickler for the scriptures, and learning what they are
trying to communicate, however as I have spent time reading Bible Study That Works , and
Inductive Bible Study I am beginning to discover that I am merely a novice when it comes to
studying the scriptures. I have always thought it was important to approach the scriptures from an
objective set of lenses, so that one is not miss interpreting the scriptures, but I did not realize how
important the inductive process was to studying. Based on what I have read, and what I have heard
in our lectures thus far, it appears that most of our current churches in this culture... Show more

One of the things that really stood out to me was this process of inductive study, and not
deductive study. As I look around at most of the mega churches across the United States, and
even the local UM churches I see this topical approach, where one is search for scriptures to
apply to this topical theme. The sad thing is that according to Bauer and Traina, we are really
missing out. They write about how deduction appears to have an end in sight, where as induction
cannot be contained. It is almost as this idea of deduction is for the simple minded, or one with
less time to ask the question why. Now this is just my observation from the outside, however it
seems like in our current culture this is what most Christians seem to gravitate to. This idea of
theme based teaching and study. I wonder is this because, they want a solution to their problem? So

Media Portrayal Of Women s Roles And Responsibilities Essay
For decades, media images have bombarded the minds of viewers. One of the images which has
had a strong influence on society is that of women. Movie stars and actresses have inclined women
to see their beauty and talent and encouraged them to follow in their footsteps. A strong desire to
emulate talented individuals, in action and dress, has shaped strong beauty and role diversification
in a short period of time. With the influx of women cast in moving pictures and (later) television
shows, the construction of inaccurate ideas concerning an ideal womans looks and responsibilities
has emerged. Yet, women and young girls continue trying to emulate the roles and images they see
on TV. American culture is saturated with messages in mass media and the effects are not always
positive on society. The media portrayal of the typical American women s roles and responsibilities
has transformed the ideology of what a woman should be. A sociological definition of genderis a
system of social practices creating and maintaining differences among people and organizing
unequal relations because of differences. As Taylor Chapman puts it, Mass media is especially
harmful to women because it constructs negative perceptions of women and reinforces them on a
daily basis (2011). An examination of the historical images portrayed in the movie and television
industries reveals an interesting representation of the women of an era and inequality in
responsibilities. The representations of

The Legacy Of The Emancipation Proclamation
When it comes to Abraham Lincoln people will accept anything as factual, which is why all the
myths of Lincoln have actually dominated history for so long. Many believe that the
Emancipation Proclamation is solely about honest Abe being a just man and freeing all the slaves
with his executive power as sitting president. Lincoln himself stated that it was actually a war
tactic strategically planned to cripple the south. If Lincoln s 1863 article is so dedicated to the
freeing of slaves then why were union states like Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri and
West Virginia allowed to still participate in keeping their slaves? And by virtue of the power, and
for the purpose aforesaid, I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said
designated States, and parts of States, are, and henceforward shall be free. which is an excerpt from
the Emancipation Proclamationitself which shows that a lot of people don t read it well enough to
notice that the slaves were an actual afterthought. Maybe it s because they are so caught up in the
notation that Lincoln was about slave s equality and nothing more.
The common myth that Lincolns parents left the slave state of Kentucky to head to Indiana ,which
was free at the time, because they were so against the idea of slavery, is nothing more but another
situation where we put two things together and make something completely out of context. We
want to believe so badly that Abraham was a savior sent from above with a

I was asked to be in the First Triumvirate this morning. So many thoughts are rushing through my
head now. Why would Ceaser want me in the First Triumvirate if I wanted him dead? Why
would they make something so unconstitutional? Why would Pompey join such a horrific group?
Now, you are probably wondering how did I get here and how did this all start, well this is where
it begins... I believe it all began when I was in my first legal case. I successfully argued my first
legal case defending a man charged with I parricide. When the trial began Erucius gave a long

Write An Essay On Adjustable Fabric Kidnapping
In September 2008, a two month old girl in Demorest, Georgia suffocated when she rolled into
the adjustable fabric siding of her bassinet, pressing her face into a pocket which formed near
the velcro fasteners. In January 2009, another death occurred due to the convertible close
sleeper/bedside sleeper bassinets manufactured by Simplicity Inc. The six month old girl in Fort
Worth, Texas appears to have been fatally entrapped in the bassinet bar opening created when the
velcro fasteners were not secured. The Simplicity 3 in 1 and 4 in 1 convertible bassinets, have
metal bars that are covered by an adjustable fabric flap. This fabric flap is secured by velcro
fasteners, which are supposed to be partially removed when the bassinet is turned into the bedside
/close sleeper mode. If the velcro fasteners are not properly re secured when the fabric flap is
adjusted, or if the consumer entirely removes the fabric flap exposing the metal bars, an infant can
slip through the opening between the lower metal bar and the mattress support and become
entrapped and suffocate or strangle. This is what happened to the two babies that died due to the...

Essay on Tone and Imagery in The School Children
Tone and Imagery in The School Children
Louise Gluck s The School Children may provide some shock for readers as it twists and turns
through a school day marked by eerie abnormalities. Gluck successfully uses visual imagery to
convey a deeper meaning to a fourteen line poem about children, teachers and parents. These three
groups come to life through the descriptive poem that allows readers to form their own conclusions.
Though Gluck s meaning is never clearly stated, her use of tone and imagery create an extremely
visual work with three dynamic sets of characters.
Gluck continuously presents the schoolchildren as simple, orderly creatures. She portrays them as
heading to school with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The teachers are described in only one other line in the remainder of the poem. In line ten, near the
work s conclusion, Gluck writes, And the teachers shall instruct them in silence (10). This line
obviously leaves itself open to multiple interpretations. Can readers conclude that the teachers are
instructing the schoolchildren how to be silent? Surely it is believable that the faculty created by
Gluck would be teaching a set of students neatly arranged as if they were stuffed dolls to continue
to be silent. Others could view the description as implying that it is the teachers themselves who are
silent in addition to being motionless throughout the poem. It would not be challenging to view the
irony in a cast of teachers who are silent and possibly unable to instruct.
Gluck s final set of

Austen s Diverse Presentations of Marriage Proposals in...
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be
in want of a wife. These are the infamous first words of Jane Austen s Pride and prejudice. It is a
beautiful, semi epistolary romance novel about the love and relationships in Regency Britain, set in
a fictional town called Meryton in Hertfordshire. It also tells a story about how even the most
perceptive people can quickly and wrongly judge people as proud or unloving, when in fact, they
are just shy and unable and unsure of how to communicate their feelings to each other. The Bennet
family has five daughters, the beautiful and elegant eldest, Jane, the intelligent and strong willed
Elizabeth, the uptight Mary and the two youngest, Kitty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His best friend Charles Bingley on the other hand is care free and falls in love at first sight of
Jane. He is not quite so rich or handsome, but is friendly and well mannered which brings him
friends wherever he goes.
The representations of marriage in Pride and Prejudice are varied from being out of spite, lust and
vengeance to being full of love, respect and infatuation. Chapter nineteen brings the first proposal,
the unwanted prospect of marriage to Mr. Collins. When Mr. Collins asks Mrs. Bennet for a
private audience with her daughter, Elizabeth anticipates what is coming and tries to excuse
herself with the excuse that will not only get her away from him, but she also tries to show her
mother that she is not interested in a man like him. ...I beg you will not go. Mr. Collins must
excuse me. He can have nothing to say to me that anybody need not hear. I am going away myself.
But, this comes to no avail.
In his speech, Mr. Collins presents three main ideas that he thinks represents marriage. His first
motive is that he thought that he should, as a clergyman, set an example to his parish of who and
when to marry. His second motive was that he thinks that it will make him happy. I am convinced
that will add very greatly to my happiness. Here, Austen uses My not Our, so that Elizabeth gets a
full understanding that he doesn t love her at all, and so makes it easier to reject him. It also shows
how insignificant marriage is in his

Loki could be reacting out of envy when he kills Baldr. Frigg works to give Baldr invincibility

  • 2. Etiological Causes Of Death s Poor Diets And Inactivity Alice Sekimonyo HLTH 3105 Dr Piper I have learned that etiological causes of death are not diseases but they are what make us sick in the first place. Good examples of etiological causes of death incudes poor diets and inactivity. An epidemiological scientific study of racism classified racismas being an etiological factor for diseases and injuries. Since then, many others researches have been focused on its measurement and how racism plays a major role in health disparities. Despite the lack of agreement on the definition of racism, we cannot deny that racism is a factor that has affected the quality of life of certain groups of people throughout the history. Oxford dictionary defines discrimination as the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex (Oxford). Discrimination has been related to depression and anxiety that lead to a poor general health outcome. The concept of racism can be defined as being discriminated against because of one s skin color. In the 13th annual summer public health video conference in minority health at the University of North Carolina Chapel, four presenters carefully discuss about whether or not racism is really making us sick by looking at different approaches and perspectives. In order to understand how racism making us sick, it is important to first understands what social determinants of health are and how they can impact our health. The WHO defines ... • 3. The Effects of the Video Game Industry on Japan Much in the world today is of Japanese origin. Indeed, Japanese influence can be seen all over the worldВ—on television, in comic books, in video games, in electronics, in the film industry, and even in music. In fact, currently, 60% of all the cartoon shows being broadcast on television the world over are from Japan. (Croal) Indeed Japanese anime characters have established a substantial base of fans in Europe and North America (Shuhei). Similarly, the Japanese video game industry has been very successful in the world. It has proven to have many positive effects on the world, even though many people have repeatedly tried and failed to vilify it. Perhaps one of the most important industries in modern Japan, video games have both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His talents were soon realized for what they were, and his rising positions within the company eventually led him to become a designer for games. His first game Donkey Kong was a smash hit. In modern video games there has been a rising emphasis on music, especially since there was none or very little in the video games of old, because it can alter the reviews of games, leading to success or failure. This weight put on music makes jobs for composers, synthesizers, and music directors, the soundtracks even selling as well as pop music. (Kohler) In fact, these musicians work is so profitable to the industry (and indeed commonplace) that programmer Fumito Ueda chuckled in response to a question regarding the idea of taking out even the music from his mainly dialogue less game. He said, If I took out the music, it would be even harder to bond with Ico [the name of the main character and the game itself], even if the players had maximum sound effects. (Kohler, 253) Video game companies have also had to hire marketing experts and people to work in their sales departments, and they have had to also send their games to production houses where they are produced and made ready to sell. • 4. Escapism In Match Point Match Point, the film which critics call a surprising rebirth (Neher 554) is Allen s darkest and most misanthropic film, and tells the story of the Irish tennis player, Chris Wilton, who works in a London high end club as a tennis instructor, when he meets Tom Hewett. Tom s sister Chloe, a rather boring woman, shows interest in Chris and the two become a couple, and Chloe grants him access to the upper class of London and a financially secure future. His life begins to skid when he begins an affair with Tom s fiancГ©e Nola, a struggling American actress. Nola satisfies his sexual desires, whereas Chloe only wants to have regulated intercourse in order to become pregnant. For a while, Chris leads a double life but when Nola, not Chloe, becomes pregnant, she threatens Chris... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Match Point, Chris Wilton starts to play tennis because it was a way out of poverty and offers a more glamorous life. When he decides not to pursue this career, he goes to London to work as a tennis instructor, still not knowing what he wants to do with his life. Over dinner, he mentions how he had to wash cars to make a living, similar to the life of Nola Rice. She escapes from her rural life in Boulder Colorado, where she comes from a broken home. She tells Chris that she never went to college, her sister is a drug addict, her father left her family early, and that her mother, also an alcoholic, had to take care of the family, but could not hold any job. Therefore, she sent Nola to beauty pageants, where her insecurity started. Nola, always known as the sexy vamp, is in fact a vulnerable woman (one divorce and two abortions), who only wants to be loved by a man. Chris and Nola both want to climb up the social latter, which indicates a deeper and blunt character; they are hungry in ways the Hewett s will never need to be (Cooper ... Childhood Mental Disorders, such as anxiety, depression and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, are chronic health conditions that present between birth and age 18.1 Mental disorders are characterized as a combination of abnormal thoughts, emotions, and behaviors 2 that may impair a child s functioning in school, at home, and in everyday life. They are caused by a combination of biological and environmental factors i.e. a family history of anxiety and living below the poverty line. • 6. How Associability Is Defined As The Links And Connections... Associability is defined as the links and connections made between a stimuli and a response. There have been many theories discussing what aspects of associability make it successful and what can be done to clarify precisely how it works in an out of experiment setting. Two predominant theories are to be discussed with compelling evidence for two very different explanations of associability and how its change can be explained. The first of these two theories is N.J. Mackintosh (1975). He refers to many past theories of attention and how they are not suitable for discussing the associability of stimuli with reinforcement (Mackintosh, 1975, p. 276) stating his new theory answers some unqualified assumptions. Previous theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These relationships also interact with the second assumption he finds made by previous theories; that stimuli compete for attention (Mackintosh, 1975, p.281). His discussion of overshadowing and blocking, which I shall discuss later, lead him to his conclusion of relevance, where more attention is paid to relevant stimuli and less to irrelevant stimuli such as where the stimuli only leads to a predicted reinforcement (Mackintosh, 1975). Both this conclusion and the former, where change of О± potential leads to a change in performance in an experiment have large impacts for associability. They appear to imply that in cases of associative change where a subject s focus switches from one thing to another, it is not the case that they do not have the mental capacity to focus on both things but they merely attend to those that provide it with its most rewarding option (ibid.). Mackintosh s conclusions have drawn support, in particular M.E. LePelley and I.P.L. McLaren (2003). They apply Mackintosh s theory to humans in an experiment where after being given a list of potential allergens and outcomes, subjects are to assess which foods they feel a fictitious Mr. X. (LePelley and McLaren, 2003, p.72) should avoid. The second stage involves Mr. Y. (ibid.) and based on previous associations made, subjects are asked to assess for him too. • 8. Black Texans Essay When one thinks of African American history in the United States, images of slavery and the antebellum south are what invariably come to mind. While these images are indeed apt and applicable to understanding black history in the United States, as Alwyn Barr demonstrates in his text Black Texans: A History of African Americans in Texas, 1528 1995, the history of African Americans in the U.S. date farther back than slavery and encompasses regions other than what has become known as the deep south. Evaluating the book overall, it is evident that Barr s central purpose for writing the book was to make clear how the black community and culture developed in Texas. While this is not implicitly stated, the chronological context of the books ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because little historical discourse on blacks in Texas has been published, Barr must rely on primary sources as his main focus for research. Although some secondary material is used, especially for analysis of modern black communities in Texas, Barr widely utilizes primary information. Seeking to assess the effectiveness of this method, it is evident that while some of the information presented in the text is somewhat dry, primary source material was best suited to meet the author s objectives overall. Because primary sources are the central focus of the work, the integrity of what Barr writes cannot be refuted. Examining how the book enhances the reader s understanding of Texas history, it could be asserted that Barr s exposition provides a considerable amount of insight into the development not only of the black community but also the development of the state in general. Barr shows that blacks played an integral role in the development of Texas: a fact that is often overlooked by many historians. Even though the book provides a considerable amount of insight, however, it is overall quite dry. As such, the book would probably be useful for history students, graduate students and instructors looking to discover more about Texas or black history. Statement of Facts Marcus Ashmore and Terrell Lee Green were maintenance workers for J.P. Thayer Co., Inc. under supervisor Gene Fye. After a particular incident of harassment on January 16, 2001, Plaintiffs reported Fye to Tricia Johnson, the Assistant Property Manager. At this time, Johnson did nothing about the complaint. The harassment continued, and on January 26, Plaintiffs complained to the Property Manager, Mary Frances de Rivera. In response, de Rivera verbally reprimanded Fye. This, however, did not stop Fye s harassment. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant, Plaintiffs hired an attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were going to file charges of discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by Defendant. This came three days after getting the letter and about a month after the initial harassment complaints. Procedural History The Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Breaking the Shackles of Caste and the Past Aravind Adiga effectively captures the true image of modern India through the story of the fictional character Balram Halwai. The novel takes the reader through the struggles of class that exist in India at a time when the country is undergoing rapid modernization and globalization. The novel contradicts the exotic image of India that is generally represented in literature (for example, the stories of Rudyard Kipling.) Instead the novel familiarizes us with the complications that have emerged in modern India in the last half century post independence and the abolition of untouchability. Throughout the novel Balram Halwai, the protagonist and the narrator, alludes to the issue of social mobility in the new social hierarchy of India. He discusses how the social hierarchy has undergone massive changes since the colonial times. Like we learned in class, there is considerable social mobility among the castes in India today (Week 5, Lecture 1). Adiga illustrates this transition and clash of ideologies in relation to caste beautifully through the various characters. On one hand is Mr. Ashok, who having being educated in America believes that the caste system is a thing of the past and on the other hand is his father, who still believes that caste lines are rigid and cannot be dissolved. Bromination of trans cinnamic acid and trans stilbene INTRODUCTION Determining how a mechanism takes place is crucial in order to define a mechanism. (Q1) When 0.252 g of trans cinnamic acid was mixed in 2.5 mL glacial acetic acid and introduced to 0.434g pyridinium tribromide, the resulting product reflects an addition reaction. (Q9) However, this does not mean the other mechanisms are completely discarded. Upon recrystallizing the pure product, a gross mistake potentially skewed the results; non DI water from the ice bath was introduced to the crystallized product by mistake. Recrystallization of the pure product was redone, but random ions from the ice bath could have infiltrated the crystal lattice of the pure product thereby widening the melting range. Also, the melting range could have been affected by the temperature intervals used; time was running out and the Digi Melt was programmed to increase in intervals of 10В°C instead of 5В°C. This could have affected the melting range observed significantly; slow and steady probes to be a better method. (Q10) Both the percent yield (106.5%) and recovery (54.75%) are not ideal numbers; ideally, percentages should be close to 100% but not over or under. As mentioned above, (in Q9), a gross mistake occurred where non DI water got into the pure product as it was recrystallizing; the flask s buoyancy caused it to tip over and the non DI water from the ice bath got inside the pure product. This affected the data as electrolytes from the ice bath could now be part of the crystal lattice of the pure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the analysis of the play, along with numerous sources, Macleod argues her own idea that describes usual spectators of the theatrical often dwelling on the antagonist s Carol s advantage over the protagonist, John, as a result of her gender. Every accusation that Carol makes centres on the idea that John makes, demeaning [...] sexist remark[s] and that they are pornographic . Carol truly believes that John has exploited her and had intention to rape her. In her essay, Macleod completely ignores this and discusses how the rape accusation was a linguistic distortion . She fails to realize the fact that Carol is essentially naive, and gains power over her professor as she further believes that she is sexually exploited. Carol especially becomes more powerful as she turns to her group for guidance. If Carol truly believes that she is being harassed, her friends will believe her plea for help and support her through it. Unless Carol s accusations are one large ploy by a very clever group that lack sensible morals a feat that seems very unlikely against a professor who is about to be rewarded tenure for 20 years of teaching than Carol s intentions were never to arrest her professor, but to seek help with her education. Carol s lack of experience expresses how she would be otherwise incapable of even attaining more power something she never wanted if it was not for her group and her gender. The fundamentals of Macleod s ideas are that the story is built on the struggle for a power a point that she cannot prove infallibly. To begin conceptualizing Antwone s feelings through an Adlerian lens, a counselor might try to spot inferiority feelings within the client. These feelings are always present and ultimately act as a motivating force behind an individual s outward behavior. One could argue that Antwone s inferiorities stem from the abuse he suffered at such a young age, which halted the average development most humans encounter. In order for an individual to overcome these inferiorities, they begin to act in compensative behaviors. Since Antwone s traumas began in infancy, he never had any kind of stable environment and the one in which he was finally placed (the Tate s) caused him to quickly feel inferior. Antwone may have ultimately developed an inferiority complex because he was never able to compensate his inferiority feelings as an infant. The inferiority complex that Antwone developed has prevented him from being able to cope with the demands of life enabling him to use violence as a way to forget. Recurring themes in William s works include the dysfunctional family, obsessive and absent mothers and fathers, and emotionally damaged women. For example, due to being a communist state with very little opportunity for private ownership, China s major company financing is dominated by the Chinese government as well as their government controlled banks (Fernando, 2010). Daniel Wilkie Case The three main directors involved in this case were Daniel Wilkie who was the chief operating officer, Timothy Mainprize who was the chief financial officer and Stephen Burroughs who was the company s manager (Lampe, 2005). The three directors were charged with charges of deceiving auditors and dishonesty. Wilkie was charged with two offences of dishonesty as a company s officer and misleading an auditor of the company, Mainprize was also charged with the same three offences and Burroughs was charged with a misleading a company s auditor offence. The three directors made the auditors and the investors of the company believe that it was adequately reserved. In other words, they made these auditors and investors believe the company had attained an $8.6 million profit whereas it had actually incurred a $ 19.1 million loss. Between 1 March and 6 May in the year 1998, Wilkie and Mainprize, on behalf of the company, arranged with General Cologne Reinsurance Australia, that they (FAI) would pay a premium of $67.5 million if they (General Cologne) would give back a reinsurance benefit of $65 million. Between 23 June and 26 June 1998, the same two executives made another deal with the same reinsurance company (General Cologne). This time FAI paid a premium of $89.7 million so that they could retain a benefit of $87 million. • 30. Questions On Non Financial Firms 1. Introduction The 2007 2008 crisis started off in August 2007 as a subprime mortgage crisis primarily concentrated in the United States but quickly metamorphosized into a global financial crisis where financial institutions teeter on the edge of bankruptcy in many countries in addition to the United States. A global economic crisis ensues in which nonfinancial firms around the world appear to spiral downward as well. A key potential contributor to the plight of the non financial firms is the financial crisis itself, in the form of a negative shock to the supply of external finance needed by non financial firms. However, as the two quotes by some leading policymakers and scholars at the beginning of the paper indicate, the idea that non financial firms suffer from a strongly negative supply of finance shock is not universally shared. In addition, if non financial firms do not do well, there can certainly be other causes, such as a contraction of demand for their products. This paper has three objectives. First, it aims to develop a simple framework that can capture and quantify the relative importance of the finance shock to the economic health of non financial firms. Second, in a cross country context, it aims to investigate whether the responsiveness of the real economy to a given finance shock varies by country features that the literature suggests that could matter, such as the type of a financial system, the nature of a monetary and exchange rate regime, or the extent ... • 31. Essay on Message Sent To Children About Gender Identity When discussing the meaning of gender identity, each and every person has a different view and perception. Most times, these views are instilled upon them throughout their childhood whether they are fully aware of it or not. As a result, some children feel forced to conform to the stereotypical gender roles and identities defined by society. For me, however, that was never a problem. The many experiences I faced throughout my childhood played a significant and defining role in the shaping of my gender identity. As a young child my favorite toys were dolls and stuffed animals, and quite often my parents found me setting up tea parties or playing house. He was into trains and anything sports related, whereas I loved arts and crafts and playing with dolls. While we were always able to find something to do, it was if we had to cross a barrier of discomfort to get to that point. In a sense, it was almost like those other toys were foreign to us. As a child, I was under the impression that as a girl you wore dresses, loved the colors pink and purple, and played with dolls. I am not sure if that was because those are the thing I chose to do as a child, or if it was a result of the things I was surrounded by and heard while growing up, although it was probably a combination of both. I distinctly remember the day my mom asked me whether I wanted to take ballet or soccer. I adamantly told her that I wanted to take ballet because soccer was for boys. She told me that both boys and girls played soccer, however, that didn t change my mind. I was a girlie girl, and I don t believe anything anyone could have done would have changed that. • 35. Social Pressure From Family And Time Spent On Aerobic... Also, Figure 2 displays the link between perceived social pressure from family and time spent participating in aerobic exercise per week. The relationship between these two variables was very weak and insignificant, r(206)= .04, p=.558, as summarized in Table 1. The threshold significant p value for data is p .05. From our data, we can conclude that the weak correlation between social pressure from family and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise is likely due to chance and is therefore insignificant. Lastly, Figure 3 shows the connection between social pressure from important figures in the participant s life and the amount of time spent on aerobic exercise. The link between our independent and dependent variable here was positive and weak, r(206)= .17, p=.013, as summarized in Table 1. Although the relationship between social pressure from important figures in the participant s life and time spent on aerobic exercise is weak, this finding is significant. Since our calculated p value from our Pearson s correlation test was very small, our positive correlational finding was not likely due to chance. Therefore we can loosely state that as social pressure from important figures in the participant s life increases, amount of time spent on aerobic exercise also increases. Discussion Due to how often young people attend social events and functions, we predicted that social pressure would be a key indicator for our participants exercise habits. We ... • 38. On A Rainy Day By Tim O Brien Literary Analysis On On A Rainy Day Tim O Brien begins the narration by explaining the harsh reality of having to explain the narration. In his depiction as a narrator, he expresses the emotional portrayal of the recitation with abysmal descriptions such as embarrassment for all of us , feeling the shame , and trying to push it away . Having mentioned his family s unawareness of his thoughts on the topic highlights the shame he has endured. This is important in understanding the importance of the event because having not told his family, those an individual presumably trusts with inner thoughts, enhances the depth of tone and meaning of the story. Given the emotional impact within the plot, the reader is instantly forced to picture the expressive imagery of the story. As the introduction unravels, the narrator expresses his loss of courage and bravery he once believed all people are thought to inherit during their childhood. As the theme of embarrassment is developed, a clear mental image of the severity of having to fight a battle that is not your own is drawn out for the reader. As a draft in the Vietnam War, O Brien talks of a war he hated . He defines this event in a dreadful and confusing light. Conveying his personal dissatisfaction of the combat by stating the Five W s, who, what where, when, why, which question the rationality and certainty, or lack thereof, of the civil war. Who are you? states that she believes being a nobody and unrecognized by a large population is often better than being a somebody. To the poet anonymity is preferable to fame and fortune. Dickinson implies that being a nobody has advantages, she would rather blend in with the crowd than stand out and be judged or criticized. The poet insinuates that the way most of us feel in our society and what our role is in it is easier to live in and control as long as we don t stand out and have respectable privacy. There are both benefits and risks associated with the procedure of male circumcision. The procedure involves the removal of some or, the entire foreskin around the penis. Neonatal circumcision is rising among English speaking countries and it is known now that more than 80% of the male population has been circumcised. (CDC, 2006) This number is rising however; studies show that there is insufficient evidence to recommend neonatal circumcision as a routine decision. (AAP, 2006). The results of this study show that after 2 years there was a 53% less change of acquiring HIV in the circumcised males. (Science Daily, 2007) This study does not seem valid to me due to the fact that the age gap is very wide, the sexual practice and preference were not stated, doesn t include number of partners, whether sex was protected or unprotected, and doesn t state whether these men were sharing needles if using drugs. There were several other studies conducted that showed an increase in risk of STD s with uncircumcised males and I also question the validity of these studies due to the same questionable variables in the HIV studies. The most common risks associated with neonatal circumcision include loss of penile sensation, bleeding, infection, unsatisfactory cosmesis because of excess skin, skin bridges, and urinary retention. Most complications are minor and studies show that there is a 0.2% to 0.6% complication rate. (WHO, 2009) More drawbacks of circumcision can include different elements that effect sexual function. The removed foreskin is erogenous tissue that contains a number of nerve endings that can contribute to the sexual response of the penis. When retracted, the foreskin provides loose skin on the shaft of the penis, which facilitates sexual intercourse. • 46. Media Portrayal Of Women s Roles And Responsibilities Essay For decades, media images have bombarded the minds of viewers. One of the images which has had a strong influence on society is that of women. Movie stars and actresses have inclined women to see their beauty and talent and encouraged them to follow in their footsteps. A strong desire to emulate talented individuals, in action and dress, has shaped strong beauty and role diversification in a short period of time. With the influx of women cast in moving pictures and (later) television shows, the construction of inaccurate ideas concerning an ideal womans looks and responsibilities has emerged. Yet, women and young girls continue trying to emulate the roles and images they see on TV. American culture is saturated with messages in mass media and the effects are not always positive on society. The media portrayal of the typical American women s roles and responsibilities has transformed the ideology of what a woman should be. A sociological definition of genderis a system of social practices creating and maintaining differences among people and organizing unequal relations because of differences. As Taylor Chapman puts it, Mass media is especially harmful to women because it constructs negative perceptions of women and reinforces them on a daily basis (2011). An examination of the historical images portrayed in the movie and television industries reveals an interesting representation of the women of an era and inequality in responsibilities. The Legacy Of The Emancipation Proclamation When it comes to Abraham Lincoln people will accept anything as factual, which is why all the myths of Lincoln have actually dominated history for so long. Many believe that the Emancipation Proclamation is solely about honest Abe being a just man and freeing all the slaves with his executive power as sitting president. Lincoln himself stated that it was actually a war tactic strategically planned to cripple the south. If Lincoln s 1863 article is so dedicated to the freeing of slaves then why were union states like Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri and West Virginia allowed to still participate in keeping their slaves? And by virtue of the power, and for the purpose aforesaid, I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of States, are, and henceforward shall be free. which is an excerpt from the Emancipation Proclamationitself which shows that a lot of people don t read it well enough to notice that the slaves were an actual afterthought. Maybe it s because they are so caught up in the notation that Lincoln was about slave s equality and nothing more. The common myth that Lincolns parents left the slave state of Kentucky to head to Indiana ,which was free at the time, because they were so against the idea of slavery, is nothing more but another situation where we put two things together and make something completely out of context. • 51. Write An Essay On Adjustable Fabric Kidnapping In September 2008, a two month old girl in Demorest, Georgia suffocated when she rolled into the adjustable fabric siding of her bassinet, pressing her face into a pocket which formed near the velcro fasteners. In January 2009, another death occurred due to the convertible close sleeper/bedside sleeper bassinets manufactured by Simplicity Inc. The six month old girl in Fort Worth, Texas appears to have been fatally entrapped in the bassinet bar opening created when the velcro fasteners were not secured. The Simplicity 3 in 1 and 4 in 1 convertible bassinets, have metal bars that are covered by an adjustable fabric flap. This fabric flap is secured by velcro fasteners, which are supposed to be partially removed when the bassinet is turned into the bedside /close sleeper mode. If the velcro fasteners are not properly re secured when the fabric flap is adjusted, or if the consumer entirely removes the fabric flap exposing the metal bars, an infant can slip through the opening between the lower metal bar and the mattress support and become entrapped and suffocate or strangle. This is what happened to the two babies that died due to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 53. Essay on Tone and Imagery in The School Children Tone and Imagery in The School Children Louise Gluck s The School Children may provide some shock for readers as it twists and turns through a school day marked by eerie abnormalities. Gluck successfully uses visual imagery to convey a deeper meaning to a fourteen line poem about children, teachers and parents. These three groups come to life through the descriptive poem that allows readers to form their own conclusions. Though Gluck s meaning is never clearly stated, her use of tone and imagery create an extremely visual work with three dynamic sets of characters. Gluck continuously presents the schoolchildren as simple, orderly creatures. She portrays them as heading to school with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The teachers are described in only one other line in the remainder of the poem. In line ten, near the work s conclusion, Gluck writes, And the teachers shall instruct them in silence (10). This line obviously leaves itself open to multiple interpretations. Can readers conclude that the teachers are instructing the schoolchildren how to be silent? Surely it is believable that the faculty created by Gluck would be teaching a set of students neatly arranged as if they were stuffed dolls to continue to be silent. Others could view the description as implying that it is the teachers themselves who are silent in addition to being motionless throughout the poem. It would not be challenging to view the irony in a cast of teachers who are silent and possibly unable to instruct. Gluck s final set of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Austen s Diverse Presentations of Marriage Proposals in... It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. These are the infamous first words of Jane Austen s Pride and prejudice. It is a beautiful, semi epistolary romance novel about the love and relationships in Regency Britain, set in a fictional town called Meryton in Hertfordshire. It also tells a story about how even the most perceptive people can quickly and wrongly judge people as proud or unloving, when in fact, they are just shy and unable and unsure of how to communicate their feelings to each other. The Bennet family has five daughters, the beautiful and elegant eldest, Jane, the intelligent and strong willed Elizabeth, the uptight Mary and the two youngest, Kitty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His best friend Charles Bingley on the other hand is care free and falls in love at first sight of Jane. He is not quite so rich or handsome, but is friendly and well mannered which brings him friends wherever he goes. The representations of marriage in Pride and Prejudice are varied from being out of spite, lust and vengeance to being full of love, respect and infatuation. Chapter nineteen brings the first proposal, the unwanted prospect of marriage to Mr. Collins. When Mr. Collins asks Mrs. Bennet for a private audience with her daughter, Elizabeth anticipates what is coming and tries to excuse herself with the excuse that will not only get her away from him, but she also tries to show her mother that she is not interested in a man like him. ...I beg you will not go. Mr. Collins must excuse me. He can have nothing to say to me that anybody need not hear. I am going away myself. But, this comes to no avail. In his speech, Mr. Collins presents three main ideas that he thinks represents marriage. His first motive is that he thought that he should, as a clergyman, set an example to his parish of who and when to marry. His second motive was that he thinks that it will make him happy. I am convinced that will add very greatly to my happiness. Here, Austen uses My not Our, so that Elizabeth gets a full understanding that he doesn t love her at all, and so makes it easier to reject him. It also shows how insignificant marriage is in his ... • 55. Baldr s Dichotomy The dichotomy between Baldr and Loki could have led to Baldr s murder. Loki could be acting out of jealousy. Everyone loves Baldr, while the other gods dislike Loki despite his utility to them. Loki also gives gifts to the gods. He gifts Odin his child, Sleipnir and gives Thor an enemy, the Midgard Serpent (39, 52). The gods distrust of Lokiprevents them from seeing Loki s contributions to society. Baldr does not give any gifts, yet he receives Frigg s protection (65). Loki could be reacting out of envy when he kills Baldr. Frigg works to give Baldr invincibility because of his dream of his murder (65). However, the text does not say Baldr can see into the future, so his dream should not have any effect on his safety.
