The black and white lighting is high contrast, with one side being very dark and the other side brightly lit, representing the pop/rock nature of the band's music. The clear background focuses attention on the singer as the main subject. The sharp focus on the singer and less focus on the other side shows his importance through depth of field.

When we look at the picture we can tell that the angle of view has been taken from a downwards
position. When we first look at the picture we are instantly draw to the lighting which is black and
white or in other words monochrome. As soon as we look at the picture we can tell that the lightings
going to play a big part in representing the image and the band. In the picture the lighting is very
contrasting due to one side being very dark and on the other side a bright light appearing. As a
viewer we can assume that the lightings made by stage lights which is why there’s a good contrast in
the picture. The lighting could represent the sort of music that Fall Out Boy play. Fall Out boy are
known to have a pop/rock feel about them therefore the high key lighting could represent the pop
side of Fall out boy while the low key lighting could represent the rock part of them. As we look at
the back ground we can see that it’s a clear background just showing the lighting. This could be the
photographer’s way of drawing the viewers’ attention towards the foreground of the picture which
shows the singer in Fall Out Boy. This makes the singer the main attraction in the picture which
suggests that it’s a vital part in Fall Out Boy itself.
As I have mentioned earlier the angle of view of the picture has been taken from a downwards
position. This could suggest that the photographer wants people to look up at the singer I awe, or in
other words he wants people to look at him like a god, like he owns the stage. This picture therefore
would apple to a lot of Fall out Boys fans but also Patrick Stumps (the singers) fans. From the angle
the picture is taken at we can see that it has clear definition due to the fact we can see a lot of detail
in the picture. When we look at the singer we can see very clearly what he’s doing and that he’s mid-
way singing and playing his guitar. This shows that clarity of detail in the photograph by showing
quite clearly what the singers doing. If we look at the low key lighting side of the image we can see
that the singer has a very sharp edge around him, showing the edge of his guitar and his outer body.
However if we look at the high key lighting side of the picture we can see that the singer body doest

2. stand out as much and blends into the back ground more. This once again shows that there’s a god
like feel towards the singer due to this bright light around him.
The picture very clearly uses depth of field by using a sharp focus on the main singer. We can very
clearly see what he’s doing like I’ve said before but the focus if very sharp on one side of the image
and then on the other side its less focused due to the lighting. Unlike The Beatles picture this
photograph would have been taken with a digital camera which means Todd Owyoung would of
relied heavily on editing software such as photoshop and he could also review his work on the spot
through viewfinder.
Overall I think that Todd Owyoung’s image has a lot of meaning behind it and the way he’s used the
lighting to represent the band and the singer is also very effective.
