2. The Last of the Real Ones
Our band will be called E.M.O
The genre of the song is Pop Punk/Emo, the
colour scheme is dark harsh colours as if its
based at night time to fit with the genre
Our target audience is mainly aimed towards
teenagers
The pace of the song is very slow and the
location of the video stays the same
3. Concept
A boy learns to skateboard and do tricks to
impress a girl
He fails at start but slowly improves
Gets the girl at the end
Performance intertwined with narrative
4. Influences
As an influence for our music video we
have looked at other music videos by Fall
out boy. We have taken some ideas from
the video Champions that we could use for
the overall feel and aesthetic of our video.
This video for Champions was not the
official music video, just a visualiser, so it
does not have a narrative, but allows us to
get an idea of how to shoot our video in a
skate park.
5. Influences
Another place we got influences for our music video
was just from looking at the band. Looking at things
like their clothing, style, colour scheme and
performance. These features help us to create a
similar look and feel for when we make our video.
6. Lyrics and Visuals
There is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals (serves to amplify
illustrate or contradict)
One of the lines in the song is ‘And then I found you’ We will link it to the visuals
by presenting him meeting a girl that he falls for. Also the line ‘ you were too
good to be true’ will link to the visuals because she is way out of his league and
he cant believe he’s met her. Another line ‘I will protect you’ will be shown
through visuals by other guys annoying her and not leaving her alone so he
comes over and tells them to leave her alone and so they all leave. During the
bridge of the song, the line ‘you drain the fear from me’ will be shown through
the visuals because he has been struggling to do tricks throughout the whole
music video and when he sees her there he is then able to do the tricks he’s
been trying to do.
7. Music and visuals
There is a relationship between the music and the visuals (serves to
amplify illustrate or contradict).
To show the link between the music and the visuals in our music
video, we will edit the shots so that some of them change on the beat,
and will get the stunts to match the tempo of the music. For example,
in the bridge when the music is slower, we are going to have the boy
preparing to do his stunt, and when the beat changes for the chorus,
he will start.
8. Genre
Genres may have their own style and iconography.
The genre is pop punk/Emo. Most music videos in this genre use
dark colours/lighting, which often match the dark lyrics of the
songs. Often, the videos show some aggression/violence. Artists
often dress quite smartly, for example Panic! At The Disco always
wear suits in their videos.
We will show the genre style by also using dark lighting and
colouring throughout the video. We will have some violence, shown
in the scene when the girl is getting annoyed by the other boys. We
will use the iconography by having the lead singer in a suit.
9. Close up
The close up is the predominant shot in a music video.
We will make sure to use the close up when filming our band and the
skaters, so that we use this music video convention. The close ups
are a very important factor to use in a music video because you get a
lot from them for example you can tell their emotions from their facial
expressions and it helps to show star iconography.
10. Star Iconography
The video may help to develop the artists star iconography (which then
becomes recognisable beyond the video)
Some of the members of Fall Out Boy have a distinct look, for example
Andy Hurley, the drummer, is covered in tattoos. Patrick Stump, the lead
singer, always wears a fedora. We are going to use this iconography in
our music video, the lead singer in our band will wear a fedora and the
drummer will be covered in tattoos.
