Thesis Statement For A Persuasive Essay
Crafting an essay, especially one centered around a persuasive thesis statement, can be a
challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in the need for a clear and compelling thesis
but also in the meticulous construction of arguments, evidence gathering, and the artful
presentation of ideas. To create a persuasive essay, one must navigate the delicate balance
between assertiveness and nuance, ensuring the thesis is strong enough to command attention but
flexible enough to accommodate counterarguments.
A successful persuasive essay requires in-depth research to support the thesis with credible
evidence. This process demands time and effort, as it involves scouring academic sources,
analyzing data, and synthesizing information into a coherent narrative. Additionally, honing
persuasive writing skills to effectively communicate ideas is an ongoing process, requiring
careful consideration of language, tone, and rhetorical strategies.
The complexity of writing a persuasive essay is further heightened by the need for a logical
structure that guides the reader seamlessly through the introduction, body, and conclusion.
Crafting a thesis statement that not only encapsulates the main argument but also serves as a
roadmap for the entire essay adds an extra layer of challenge.
In conclusion, writing an essay with a persuasive thesis statement is a demanding task that
involves a combination of research, critical thinking, and eloquent expression. Success in this
endeavor requires dedication, patience, and a keen understanding of the topic at hand. For those

The Pearl By John Steinbeck
Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the
need without ever reaching satisfaction. In the novella, The Pearl by John Steinbeck,
Kino lives with his wife, Juana, and his child Coyotito. The family lives in a small
village in a town where the Spanish colonized. Coyotito goes through something
striking and in order to fix it, Kino finds something life changing. Throughout the
story, Steinbeck shows that materialism and greed left unchecked can lead to
immoral behavior shown through the unnamed trackers, the doctor, and the main
character Kino himself.
Kino s attachment to the pearl causes him to destroy his marital relationship and
blind himself of the bad it has caused. An example is when Kino beats up his own
wife, Juana, on the beach. Juana once saw the pearl as hope, but now she views it
as evil. She tries to get rid of it and throw it back into the ocean because she couldn
t take it anymore. Kino, a once loving husband, turns angry and violent showed
when he says, Quietly he tracked her, and his brain was red with anger (58). He
follows her down to the beach and wrenches the pearl from her hands. He then
punched her in the face with his fist and when she fell onto the boulders, he kicked
her in the side. Kino allowed himself to love the pearl more than his own wife.
Also, Juana begs Kino multiple times to get rid of the pearl because she knows it is
causing evil and ripping apart their family. She says to Kino, I am
Dual Language Learners Are Children Learning Two Or
More
Dual language learners are children learning two or more languages at the same
time, as well as those learning a second language while continuing to develop their
first (or home) language (Dual language learning, 2008). The number of children
being raised in bilingual homes is large and growing, however the mechanism of
languagedevelopment in children from bilingual homes is not well described or
understood (Hoff et al., 2011). A large body of research has refuted the opinion that
dual language input may confuse children, and other research indicates that children
exposed to two languages can distinguish those languages from infancy, learn two
phonological systems, two vocabularies and two grammars (KovaВґcs Mehler,
2009a; Petitto,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goals for students in dual language education programs include high levels of
bilingualism and biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross cultural competence for
all students (Lindholm Leary, 2012). Dual language immersion programs integrate
language and academic content instruction in English and a partner language to
promote bilingualism and biliteracy.
Heritage languages refer to the languages spoken by immigrants and their children
and has recently come to be used broadly by those concerned about the study,
maintenance, and revitalization of non English languages in the United States
(Montrul, 2012). Heritage language learners contain a heterogeneous group ranging
from fluent native speakers to non speakers who may be generations removed but
who may feel culturally connected to a language (Deusen Scholl, 2003). A heritage
language program is any language development program that is designed or tailored
to address the needs of heritage language learners, and heritage language programs
may be at any level or setting and vary in terms of their approaches to teaching,
populations they serve, and other factors (Chao, 1997). Heritage language programs
have three major educational contexts: community based program, K 12, and higher
education. Heritage language schools are often created out of a community s desire
to pass on their language and culture from one generation to the next in order to
maintain connections within families and communities
History of Percussion Instruments Essay
History of Percussion Instruments
There are few certainties about the percussion family. No one can say how many
instruments it contains; few have agreed on playing techniques; and few could name
one orchestral piece specifically written with percussion in mind. However, one thing
is certain, percussion has been shown over time that it is not merely a matter of
beating out rhythm (
History of Percussion 1). The family of percussion instruments is the first musical
instrumentation introduced to the world. To this date there are countless percussion
instruments. Each group of instruments has a different ethnic origin and history in
different societies. From the shallow drums of fourth century B. C. to the giant cot ...

Mirlitons are those that the membranes are vibrated by the voice; some think that

The history of idiophones dawns very early in civilization.
Clappers were the earliest forms of idiophones. The Sumerians used these clappers in
3000 BC. Later on, Phoenicia derived castanets from the
Sumerian clappers. The Egyptian temples of 1100 BC used cymbals in acts of
worshiping their gods ( Percussion 655). There have been bronze bells found in
India dated back to 1000 BC. These are one of the earliest forms of percussion
discovered in physical form from India. Those who inhabited
India also used musical cups, which were forerunners of the popular musical glasses.
These musical cups were popular in India circa 800 AD. Western
Asia is responsible for the introduction of the gong in China near the sixth century
AD ( Percussion 656). Romans and Greeks used the increasing availability of brass
for their instruments. A cymbal was one instrument used frequently by both the
Greeks and Romans. The Greco Romans had an increased need for concussion
instrument. Bones became a popular use for concussion sounds ( Percussion 653).
Indians in the Americas were also users of concussion instruments. They used

Throughout history the unique and changeable Australian landscape has inspired a
diverse array of artistic responses. Impressios of its power and beauty, expressions
of individuals responses, symbolic religious orientation, the range of landscape art

in the artworks of Glover, Drysdale, Berkowitz and Reid.

The Red landscape is a perfect example of these themes. It shows the landscape
surrounding Mount Olga in the Northern Territory. The dead twisted tree trunks, and
extremely vivid colours express a strong mood of isolation and desertion. Although
the artwork is not as realistically precise as Glovers Constitutional Hill at sunset , it
manages to express the true essences of the Australia desert. There is a house and
washing blowing in the wind but there is no presence of human being, or anything
living for that matter. This gives a bleak, depressing feeling.

Lauren Berkowitz is a contemporary installation artist. Installation art can be
described as a three dimensional painting, sculpture, poem, and prose work, which is
usually transient and site specific. This very modern art practise makes Berkowitz s
expression of Australian landscape is completely different to the previous two artists,
Glover and Drysdale. Her work is made with an almost obsessive attention to detail
after painstaking research and, ultimately, total dedication to the moment of making.
Similarly both Glover and Drysdale were very focused and particular about their
artworks.
Unlike Glover and Drysdale, Berkowitz does not use paint at all, nor does she depict
the landscape realistically. Instead she
Leasing A SUV Essay
Leasing an SUV
Leasing a suv vehicle is an option for vehicle buyers. Some buyers will take a
buying option whereas others seem a better fit to select the leasing option. Know the
difference when making a major purchase. When buying an suv or any other vehicle,
the buyer takes ownership of the vehicle and pays the down payment, then pays
reoccurring notes every month until the balance is paid in full. If the lease option is
chosen then the buyer pays a lesser down payment in most cases, but the agreement
will have stipulations with the vehicle and the buyer will not own the vehicle.
The suv leasing terms for standard and luxury vehicles has general rules set in motion
that go along with the leasing agreement. The potential leasing individual will need to

Once the two to three years are up the buyer is able to trade for another vehicle that
suits their needs. The leasing option has the benefit of being able to change
vehicles every two to three years, the lease option keeps payment low, and you
have the luxury of driving a dream car rather than out right buying it. Of course, at
the end of the lease most buyers are given the option to purchase the vehicle. In
that case when the two to three year agreement has expired the purchaser is given
the chance to purchase the vehicle that they have been driving. Some individuals
fall in love with their suv, luxury car or truck and purchasing it would seem ideal
for them. Others simply would like a change. Maybe a luxury suv, car or truck
would seem intriguing to the purchaser. Economy may as have changed within the

Mncs in India
MNCs in India By A V Vedpuriswar[1] Introduction With a GDP growth of almost 7
percent1, India is one of the most promising and fastest growing economies in the
world. But despite the huge potential of the country, the performance of
Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in India has been decidedly mixed. Many
MNCs which have succeeded remarkably elsewhere in the world have yet to make a
significant impact in India. The market entry and penetration strategies that have
worked so well for these companies in other countries have been for less successful
in India. Many MNCs have struggled to understand Indian customers and come up
with suitable products and services. At the same time, some MNCs have done pretty
well for themselves. Why have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, MNCs which entered India since the 1990s have in general been
more aggressive and proactive in a liberalised business environment, than those
which began operations during the license Raj. Hyundai, Samsung and LG are
good examples. The older MNCs like Bata have also been handicapped by the
baggage accumulated over a period of time. Such companies are often at a
disadvantage due to their bloated manpower and inefficient manufacturing facilities.
Of the 50 plus[2] MNCs with a significant presence in India, the nine market leaders,
including British American Tobacco (BAT), Hyundai Motor, Suzuki Motor, and
Unilever, have an average return on capital employed of around 48 percent. Even the
next 26 have an average ROCE of 36 percent. The most successful MNCs in India
have some common characteristics. Resisting the instinct to transplant to India the
best practices of other countries, they have treated the country as a strategic market.
These companies have also taken a long term view. They have invested time and
resources to understand local consumers and business conditions. They have
understood that the price points that matter in India are different from those in other
countries. In a country where the middle and lower end segments are critically
important, affordability is a crucial factor. At the same time, some of the successful
MNCs have also realised that price is not the only factor driving
Cannery Row Themes
John Steinbeck returns to the Monterey area of California for Cannery Row, a story
of a few men living in California in the aftermath of the Great Depression,
specifically in an abandoned warehouse. Steinbeck wrote this book at the behest of a
WWII soldier who desired to forget the horrors of the war he just endured. Cannery
Row mixes multiple themes and tones together in order to bring together a
captivating narrative which has endured over time.
Cannery Row takes place in the cannery district of Monterey, California, following
the story of Mack and his friends as the rent a converted shack from Lee Chong, a

People who are described as whores, pimps, gamblers, and sons of bitches (1) often
band together to fight against problems, such as the influenza epidemic. Business
owners who are shown throughout the novel that money is a priority such as Lee
Chong and Dora deal as often in good will as they do with cash, helping the boys
out along their journey. At the heart of this community rests Doc, someone that
everyone is in some way indebted to along with being overall a good person and
becoming the soul of the community, as when he is wronged the whole town goes
into a negative state. Related to this is finding happiness without material wealth,
specifically with analyzing the story of Mack and the boys. If you throw out side

Battle Of Thermopylae Essay
Herodotus The Battle of Thermopylae
In the spring of 480 BC the Persian army from all parts of the vast Persian Empire
concentrated at Abydos, near the Hellespont, in order to attempt the second attack
against Greece. Preparations of this campaign, started by Darius, and continued after
his death in 486 BC, his son Xerxes, heir to the throne of the Persian Empire. These
preparations, except the concentration of land and naval forces, included a parallel
diplomatic and intelligence movements, with a view to breaking down the Greek
cities, and avoiding the creation of a Greek coalition, which could cause problems in
the attack of the Persian forces.
Main source for the Greco Persian wars is the Greek historian Herodotus.
Herodotus, known as the Father of History , was born in 484 BC in Halicarnassus,
Asia Minor, which at that time was under Persian occupation. He wrote the play
Histories around 440 430 BC, trying to discover the real causes of Greco Persian

Although Thermopylae constitutes a defeat of the Greeks, at least for the western
culture, they repeatedly receive praise for their participation in combat. It is clear
that the Greek strategy was to keep the Persians at Thermopylae and Artemisia
apparently did not want to hand over all Boeotia and Attica to the Persians. The
Greek position at Thermopylae, despite the small number of Greek troops, was
almost impregnable. While the Greeks managed to keep the Persians in Thermopylae
for even a short time, the Persians might have to retreat due to lack of food and
water. Thus, despite heavy losses, the destruction of a narrow Persian victory, tactics

Minimum Fines And Punishments For Drivers
Every person that has operated a vehicle before, or has seen a vehicle operated,
understands that while driving is a very convenient mode of transportation, it can
also be extremely dangerous for vehicle operators and people near the roads which
vehicles are operated on. These dangers are suppressed by the rules and regulations
imposed by our governments. While some laws on roadways seem to be a
nuisance to drivers, they are there for a reason, to keep us safe. One specific
roadway area that the government is very concerned with keeping safe would be
construction zones. Currently the fines and punishments for drivers who are
ticketed and/or are involved in accidents in work zones are higher than they are in
regular roadway areas. The question that this essay will explore is whether or not
these higher fines are appropriate. Traffic laws are the jurisdiction of the state
governments and because of this the laws imposed in work zones vary between
each state. Currently in Michigan all fines for speeding are doubled in work
zones. Speeding in Michigan s work zones can also result in increased points on
your license. Furthermore, if you injure or kill a worker in a work zone in
Michigan you face a $7,500 fine and 15 years in prison. About 32 other states also
enforce the double fine laws in work zones, but 24 states with these laws require
workers to be present. Missouri enforces one of the steepest penalties for worker
endangerment, including up to a $10,000 fine. While these
What Is The Importance Of Breakfast Essay
Importance of Breakfast The best breakfast contains more than just complex
carbohydrates. If you consume a protein drink along with your carbs, you ll not
only enhance glycogen storage but you ll also have insurance against any
breakdown of structural protein that occurs when aerobic intensity gets to be a bit
much If you regularly skip breakfast, break that habit right now! Breakfast is not
just another meal it is the meal. In fact, the word itself reveals its importance. It s
the first meal to break the fast. After three or more hours between dinner and
bedtime, and then at least six hours of sleep, your body is craving nutrients. This
would be an ideal time to have some protein mixed with some carbs. You need this
right now, because the instant you wake up, your brain needs fuel. And your brain
burns almost nothing but carbohydrates as a fuel source. (It also burns a very small
amount of fat). If you don t get some carbs into your system first thing, you run the
risk of forcing your body to convert amino acids from your muscles to carbs for use
as a fuel source. Can t handle a full breakfast first thing? At least have a scoop of
protein powder with a banana or strawberries mixed in a blender. Have the shake
and then wait a few minutes. By then you may be able to eat a little more solid food.

The Physics Of Galileo ( 1564-1642 )
An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion, with the same
speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. (Sir Isaac
Newton Law of Inertia)
Before the early 17th century, scientists were convinced that an object (pushed across
another surface), only came to a rest once the force/s behind it stopped working.
Galileo (1564 1642) a great Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer and
philosopher realised this was not the case. He concluded that the loss of such an
objects motion was caused not by the dissipation of its original energy, but rather due
to the interaction of a counteracting force known as friction. Understanding how
friction acts, and the factors that affect it has been a focal point of physics ever since.
Forces and Friction
Measured in Newtons and symbolised by F , a force, in its simplest terms, is a push
or a pull an interaction between one object and another that is responsible for
changes in the motion, direction or shape of the object/s affected. The greater the
force, the greater the impact it will have.
Not all forces affect objects in the same way however. Non contact forces are able to
exert a push or a pull upon an object despite a physical separation. Examples
included: gravity, magnetism, and electricity. Contact forces on the other hand, can
only affect an object through direct contact, such as air resistance, applied force, and
frictional force.
As a contact force, friction

What Are The Nonverbal Cues In The Wizard Of Oz
For as long as I can remember, I have been a fairly quiet person who wasn t too
keen on socializing with other people. Every time I found myself in a conversation
I would wonder what was on the other person s mind, and how they perceived me.
For instance, I attempted to decipher their true intentions, if they were honest, or if
they even liked me. Since I was so focused on those thoughts, I would often miss the
concept of the message, as well as the signs that could have clarified my concerns. It
is easier to distinguish and interpret another s probity by observing eye behavior,

This show is an in depth version of the movie The Wizard of Oz with a few minor
detail changes. However, I will be discussing the nonverbal interactions between
two of the main characters named Dorothy (Toto is always with her), and Roan. To
start with, Dorothy was ambushed from behind by Ronan who forced her into a
headlock, and started to strangle her with what seemed like intent to kill.
Although, Dorothy s life may have been on the line and she was crying, her eyes
were full of confusion. As if he was going to let Dorothy go, Roan pushed her
down to the ground. She sat there propped up against a wall, as she slowly shook
her head in disbelief with tears running down her face. Roan crouched down on one
knee to meet her sobs with a hint of care in his eyes, but he quickly averted his gaze
from hers, while holding a look of struggle on his face, as if he was fighting with
himself more than he was Dorothy. Suddenly, Ronan jumped to his feet, turned his
back towards Dorothy, and grasped his head with both hands. Though, the scene
continues, it was at this point that I knew through nonverbal cues Ronan was
assigned with what may have been the hardest task of his life; to kill Dorothy.
Evidently, there was some form of historical context between the two, whether it be
intimate or not is currently unknown to me. The nonverbal cues of this episode gave
me the impression that I had a fair understanding of the interactions of each scene.
However, without hearing the conversations that took place it was surprisingly
difficult to decipher the meaning of each scene. With that in mind, I do believe
focused observation of nonverbal cues helps improve effective listening by keeping
the attention of the audience on the speaker, which could result in the listener
becoming more responsive. Conversely, nonverbal cues should not be the main focus
for the listener, but instead the entirety
Essay On Mansfield Park
Abstract
The novel Mansfield Park is a record of the growth of Fanny Price and her
personality that is shaped by a house Mansfield Park. The structure of Mansfield
Park is severely built round the contrast between the girl s education and its
consequences. The career of the heroine Fanny defines a growth in awareness that is
capable of ensuring her self actualisation. Fanny Price not only takes in the
impressions of Mansfield Park but also assimilates them into her consciousness. The
novel shows her development from immaturity to maturity. This paper focuses on the
ordination of Fanny, expansion of her consciousness and the subtle interplay of three
aspects of Fanny s development.

This is what forms the central dilemma. Fanny is the heroine, but her fate depends
on Mary Crawford, hating the office and status of Clergyman. The novel was
published in 1814 and its impulse is not to forgive but to condemn. Its praise is not
for social freedom but for social status. Fanny Price is overtly virtuous and
consciously virtuous. Mary Crawford is the antithesis of any Fanny Price and she
is conceived to win the admiration of almost any reader. The strange and perverse
rejection of Mary Crawford s vitality in favour of Fanny s debility lies at the very
heart of the novel s intention. Fanny is a Christian heroine: it is therefore not
inappropriate that the issue between her and Mary Crawford should be concentrated
in the debate over whether or not Edmund Bertram shall become a clergyman. Fanny
sees the church as a career that claims a man s best manly energies but for Mary,
ordination is a surrender of manhood. In the 19th century England the ideal of
professional commitment inherits a large part of the moral prestige of the ideal of the
gentleman. Humility is obviously an appropriate virtue for the Christian heroine, but
equally important in Jane Austen s canon is, as always, the impulse towards
Pro Vaccination Cons
Another pro of vaccinations are that they protect others too. Imagine a child coming
to school who has an active case of Whooping Cough. (By the way, a school nearby
recently closed for a few days due to an outbreak of Whooping Cough.) The infected
child, (whose parents did not vaccinate) comes to school and infects other students in
his/her class. The teacher is also infected by the student. The students go home and
infect their parents and their younger siblings. The teacher goes home and infects her
children and her aging parents that she cares for. It s a domino effect. When we
vaccinate our children, we are protecting others that we love and care for. We protect
others in the community that has not been vaccinated themselves. It protects babies
who are too young to be vaccinated, the elderly, pregnant women, and persons in the
community with weakened immune systems for reasons such as chronic illnesses.
Are vaccinations safe? This is perhaps the biggest debate concerning vaccinations.
We have all heard stories in the news of the great controversy of vaccinations being
unsafe and possibly being the cause of Autism. What does the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) say about this matter? In order to be FDA approved, the
vaccination must go through an extensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Martin Luther s The Reformer
As a young student previous to this year I have not had much experience studying
Martin Luther the reformer. However, I found this book to be very helpful to study
the history of Luther. The author James M. Kittleson states on page fourteen The
primary purpose of this book is to tell the story of Martin Luther to readers who are
not specialists in the field of Luther studies and who have no desire to become
ensnared in the arguments of specialists. That is exactly what the book does, it felt
as if it was directed at a student such as myself, who has little to no knowledge of
Luther, and told not only of his personality traits but his life career. Kittleson starts
the reader off before Luther is born and takes him through his life s career all the
way to Luther s death. One thing that I found interesting in the book was rather
than start with Luther when he began to study theology, he began before Luther
was even born discussing the life of Luther s father. Luther was born as a peasant to
Hans and Margaretta Luder, the author says Luther s birth was a matter of such
insignificance that he and his friends later debated the exact year, (pg.31) meaning
that not even Luther himself knew when he was born because it was so
unimportant. Luther s father, Hans, was a very successful and loyal father who
played a heavy influence on his son s early life. Hans was a devoted man, the
morning Luther was born Hans rushed him to the Church of St. Peters to have him
baptized. Shortly
The Importance Of Interactivity In Online Learning
Interactivity in our lives is very important especially in the learning process between
learners and instructors and the learning content. Interaction can be used in different
teaching environments like formal and informal education. The learner can interact
with the teacher in order to get some knowledge. (Bernard et al., 2009; Ke, 2013) As
a student, the interaction is really the crucial element for their fundamental knowledge
and emotional development in traditional teaching methods. (Song and McNary
(2011)). Interactivity can be used in both entertainment and education, in particular
online learning. Due to the rapid expansion and progress of Technology and the
Internet, online learning became very popular in higher education. (Ke Kwak, 2013;
Wei Chou, 2014). It can enable learners and instructors to detour the daily or weekly
regular teaching methods and instead get their knowledge online. Online Learning
can also enable learners to get knowledge and skills over a variety of different
learning applications without having limits on time and space. (Allen Seaman, 2013;
Kaymak Horzum , 2013). As a result, interaction is one of the most important factor
for a successful learning experience. (Cho Kim, 2013; Garner Bol, 2011; Kang Im,
2013; Richardson Swan, 2003; Watson, 2013). A sub category of interaction is the
interactive video which is a new technology that integrates the management of
infomation and the desicion making of computers with the addition of
Charles Dickens Search For Money In Great Expectations
My dream was out; my wild fancy was surpassed by sober reality; Miss Havisham
was going to make my fortune on a grand scale (Dickens 146). Charles Dickens,
author of the novel Great Expectations, illustrates a scene in which Pip, the young
protagonist, ponders about the things he will be able to do with the fortune he just
received. His unrealistic expectations soon lead him astray and cause him to make
mistakes he never would have otherwise. With Pip s regretful actions in pursuit of
receiving riches from his secret benefactor, Joe s value of friendship over fortune,
and Biddy s wisdom despite her poverty, Charles Dickensshows that material wealth
does not improve one s morals. In his quest for wealth, Pip makes foolhardy choices,

It may have been about a month after my sister s reappearance in the kitchen, when
Biddy came to us with a small speckled box containing the whole of her worldly
effects, and became a blessing to the household (Dickens 130). Selflessly, Biddy
comes to help Pip s family care of the ailing Mrs. Joe. Biddy s invaluable assistance
without any expectation for material compensation elaborates that her cordial
manners are not influenced by wealth. You know best, Pip; but don t you think you
are happier as you are? (Dickens 135). Strolling leisurely outside, Biddy gives Pip
canny advice by discouraging him from becoming super wealthy. Biddy believes
that money cannot make one truly happy. Her prudent guidance displays Biddy as
wise and helpful even without the use of money, which adds on to Dickens theme
that wealth does not help one have better morals. Her kindness to Pip s family and
her astute suggestions to Pip demonstrate Biddy s grounded principles as part of the
theme that one s prosperity does not determine

Doctor Manette In A Tale Of Two Cities
The personality of Doctor Manette has greatly altered throughout the book due to
realizing he is capable of great feats. Doctor Manette was first terrified of the world
and needed people to guide him through daily tasks. After being released from
prison after almost two decades in pure isolation, all people and items of the world
were unknown and strange. To cope with his anxiety, the Doctor turned to
shoemaking, working for countless hours in the Defarge s tavern. Meeting his
daughter Lucie helped greatly decrease this peculiar behavior, but the Doctor still
did not have a sense of self. When asked if he would like to have a life similar to
what he had before he was imprisoned, the Doctor responded, I hope you care to be
recalled to life? And the old answer: I can t say (Dickens 57). It is clear that the
Doctor still believes and sees flashbacks from his horrors in prison, and therefore
does not know otherwise from it. He has been secluded from the outside world for
so long that he cannot make decisions for himself and does not know if he wants to
continue living... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Effectiveness Of Gibberellic Acid Experiment
Gibberellic Acid Effectiveness on different plant types
By: Oliver, ..., and ....
Introduction
This report will be analysing the effectiveness of Gibberellic Acid on different plants
to see if it helps them germinate faster. This experiment will be looking at the plant
types, Raphanus sativus (Radish), and Echinocactus grusonii (Cactus). It aims to see
if the Gibberellic Acid increases the rate at which seeds germinate. Then, if the
Gibberellic Acid does, this experiment will look at what ppm ration of GA
(Gibberellic acid) results in the fastest germination time. The hypothesis being
explored, states, The seeds containing a 500ppm of Gibberellic Acid will germinate
faster than one with more or less.

Because each group only did 2 bags for each GA concentration there is not enough
results collected. When an experiment like this is carried out, it becomes obvious
that more information is needed than was collected. This is due to the randomness
of plants. Since you can in no way control the germination of seeds, it means that
all the seeds may germinate slowly or quickly, because of something like
temperature. Because of this, the experiment would need to be carried out during
different times of the year and so forth. Another way that the experiment s method
could have been improved is if a better way of recording the results of the
experiments was used. The results table used to record any information was hard to
get access to and there was also different ways the results were written. Some groups
wrote down the number of germinations each day, while other groups wrote down the
number of germination which had taken place from the beginning of the
Abraham Lincoln s Assassination Of The United States
On April 14, 1865 President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes
Booth while at Ford s Theater. This is a widely known fact but many of the events
leading up to his death are obscure. Why was he assassinated? What was really
supposed to happen that dreadful night? What made the south so mad? How did this
affect the future of the United States? All of these questions have answers, the only
thing you have to do is look.
Let s start by getting to know our late president. Abraham Lincoln, our sixteenth
President of the United States, was elected on November 6, 1860. He only received
40% of the popular vote, none of which was from the South. Lincoln became
president during the highest conflict between North and South in ... Show more

He was also a Confederate sympathizer, vehement in his denunciation of Lincoln, and
was strongly opposed to the abolition of slavery in the United States. Booth and a
group of co conspirators originally plotted to kidnap Lincoln but later planned to kill
him, Vice President Andrew Johnson, and Secretary of State William H. Seward in a
bid to help the Confederacy s cause. Although Robert E. Lee s Army of Northern
Virginia had surrendered four days earlier, Booth believed the American Civil War
was not yet finished because Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston s army was
still fighting the Union Army. Of the conspirators, only Booth was completely
successful in carrying out his part of the plot. Booth shot Lincoln once in the back
of the head, and the President died the next morning. Seward was severely
wounded but recovered. Vice President Johnson was never attacked at all.
Following the assassination, Booth fled on horseback to southern Maryland,
eventually making his way to a farm in rural northern Virginia 12 days later, where
he was located. Booth s companion gave himself up, but Booth refused and was
shot by Boston Corbett, a Union soldier, after the barn in which he was hiding was
set ablaze. Eight other conspirators or suspects were tried and convicted, and four

Throughout The Bible, Jesus Is Known For Eating With The
Throughout the bible, Jesus is known for eating with the marginalized people in the
society. To save the sinners Jesus had to have contact with them. Through these
meals, Jesus created a connection with the marginalized groups and spread the word
of God. The last supper was the last meal that Jesus shared with his disciples before
his crucifixion. In my essay, I will discuss the painting The Sacrament of the Last
Supperby Salvador DalГ. I will discuss how the painting shows the divinity of Jesus,
displays Jesus, and interprets the last supper.
The Sacrament of the Last Supper by Salvador Dali is a large painting in the
National Gallery of Art. In the painting there a twelve sided, windowpane. The larger
windowpane is broken up into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first man has brunette hair and is wearing a white cloak. He taller than the
other two men. The next man s is wearing a yellow cloak. Additionally, just like the
second tallest man on the right of Jesus, a small portion of his neck is visible. The
next man, the shortest of the three men, has white hair and is wearing a white cloak.
He is in the same position as the shortest man on the right side of Jesus. His hands
are visible and clasped.
On the right side, the width, of the table there are two men. The first man has
brunette hair, is wearing a white cloak, and has his head bowed. The second mad
is also a brunette. He is wearing a white cloak. On the left side, the width, of the
table there are two men. Both men are brunette and have their heads bowed. On
the length of the table, with their backs to the viewer, there are two men. The two
men are sitting with a large space between them. They are both wearing long white
cloaks. On the table between these two men there are two small circular loaves of
bread. On the opposite side of the table, in front of Jesus, there is a cup of red wine.
To properly understand the painting, the viewer must understand what the painting is
depicting. Matthew 26:17 30 describes the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples.
The Gospel starts off with Jesus sitting at the table with his twelve disciples, just like
the painting depicts. Jesus tells his disciples that one man will betray him.
A Look into Calvin Klein’s Advertisements Essays
A Look into Calvin Klein s Advertisements
As a seductive young man looks into a camera a raspy voice, off camera, whispers,
You got a real nice look. How old are you? Are you strong? You think you could rip
that shirt off? That s a real nice body. You work out? I can tell. No, it s not straight
out of a steamy romance novel, though it could be. This is just one example of how
provocative Calvin Klein s advertisements have been. Although the ads boosted sales
for the Calvin Klein empire, it angered many parents, religious groups, and even the
media over its message, its image, and its legality.
There is no doubt the ads are in bad taste, but in advertising today, sex sells.

And that their advertising explodes on the media scene.
Calvin Klein eventually dropped the $6 million dollar campaign after the
advertisements were accused of violating child pornography laws. On September 8
the Justice Department began looking into claims that the ads used young models
posed in a provocative manner. A Calvin Klein spokeswoman stated that only one
of the models used in their ads was under the age of 18. The fifteen year old girl that
was in his ads was Bijou Phillips, whose mother was aware of the ad and was proud
of her daughter.
If the parents of the teen models allowed their children to pose for the
advertisements, who are we to blame the CK company for using them. Who are we
to look down on Calvin Klein s ads when you can watch any show on prime time
TV and see much worse than what the ads portrayed? Who are we to suggest that
the ads are suggestive when all we know is that, in advertising, sex sells and sells
big? Isn t Calvin Klein just giving the public what it wants?
Calvin Klein has publicly stated that the misunderstood ads had been intended to
convey the spirit, independence, and inner worth of today s young people.
Personally, I do not really buy that argument. Is he saying that the teenagers today are
always thinking about it, doing it, or discussing it. But, at the same time, I don t
think the public should automatically label him or his company as perverts for using
sex to sell
Physical Activity Is A Serious Problem
Lack of physical activity is a serious problem that the United States is having to
deal with daily in today s society. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood
Institute, physical activity is defined as any body movement that works your
muscles and requires more energy than resting (2011). Physical activity is
commonly associated with improving one s health, especially the cardiovascular
and pulmonary systems. The benefits supplementary to physical activity can apply
to people of both genders and all ages and races (NHLBI, 2011). These benefits can
include maintaining a healthy weight for one s age group, essentially making
everyday life easier, and lowering the risks of many diseases that can occur
anytime throughout a lifetime such as coronary heart disease (CHD), diabetes,
cancer, and even depression (NHLBI, 2011). Weight problems, such as being
overweight or even obese, are issues many struggle with in today s society. This
can establish long term effects such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and
overall unhealthy lifestyle. Being physically active for even a small amount a day
can decrease the risks of having these prominent issues. If physical activity is
taught to be a lifestyle early on in life, then it will become a routine and create a
more active, healthier society as a whole. Target Audience As mentioned earlier,
physical activity can be performed by everyone and can benefit everyone no matter
the gender, race, or age. In today s society, lack
Literary Elements Of Sherlock Holmes
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle utilizes many detail oriented literary elements to develop the
many adventures of the famous fictional British detective Sherlock Holmes and his
partner, John Watson. Long winded description and complex vocabulary are infused
into Doyle s writing to accentuate Holmes s great intelligence. By incorporating such
a heavy, educated tone upon the mysteries, the tales of Sherlock Holmesare expressed
as very complicated stories that challenge readers in comprehension as well as
encourage curiosity through puzzling cases. One of the most important literary
features of Doyle s works is the use of dialogue and conversations held between
characters, whether it be Holmes, Watson, a victim, and so forth. It seems that a key...

Another factor to consider is how Holmes is written to be asking Watson even though
he understands that Watson is not on the same page. This curious occurrence in the
interactions between Holmes and Watson may also elevate the status Holmes
imposes on the text and to the readers.
Not only can the dialogue bring life to the story, but it can tell the story itself, as
seen in many instances in which Holmes has wrapped up another mystery. Most
cases are concluded with a recollection of events and revealing hints that only
Holmes knew of, presented almost conversationally from Holmes to Watson. With
his first person account of the mystery, Doyle uses Holmes to clarify any
remaining confusion or questions that linger in readers minds as the chapter ends.
While it is repetitive after several cases, granting Holmes with such large chunks of
dialogue eliminates the need for boring, lengthy straight forward narration. A good
example of the use of retelling in dialogue in place for narration can be found in
The Red Headed League. A combination of complex writing and sophisticated
vocabulary also follow the genius detectives mysteries and help to represent his
intelligence through Doyle s skillful work. Each story is written with extensive
vocabulary as well as depth, which also alludes/attributes to Holmes himself.
Therefore, Doyle was careful to ensure that the professional nature of Holmes was
also conveyed

Your Best Life Now, By Joel Osteen
We all have bad things happen to us that require us to forgive, but famous people
are forced to either hang on to stuff or forgive in public. And because not forgiving
other people can affect our lives in a big way, it becomes obvious when famous
people are struggling with something from the past through their interviews and
public appearances. While that s not a fun thing for famous people, it is a good
thing for all of us. We get to see what the act of forgiving or not forgiving can do to
someone and apply those lessons in our own life.
The fact is that famous people have a lot of insight into forgiveness. Besides the

Chinese Movement In Canada Case Study
1858 denoted the beginning of progressing Chinese movement to the districts of

The Effects Of Racing On A Dirt Track
Racing Racing is always a thrill for me and for half of my family. It was always my
uncle, dad, grandpa and grandma, and I that had a passion for watching or actually
racing. My brother and my cousins and aunt didn t really care for it. Before each
race, I will have fear effect me. I always questioned everything while sitting and
waiting to start. I would ask myself if there is enough gas in the car or is the tires
good enough. I was always double checking before getting in and going out there. I
constantly see cars flip over or crash and get caught on fire. It scares me but its a
thrill. Racing on a dirt track has its benefits. Sliding and drifting on the track has
helped me learn to actually know what to do for when I m on an ice road... Show

We were all scared. My grandpa, dad and I running straight into the track. The only
thought there was in my mind was, he isn t okay. Making sure that he turns over
and lays on his back as someone calls 911, I left to go get the cart from the trailer.
As I left the track to get it, I start crying, fearing the worst. I run back the track and
have my dad help me put the car on the trailer cart and pull it back to the trailer and
run back to my uncle. As I got back to my uncle, he was talking some intolerable
words. After a few minuets, I heard my name from him. Reagan what happened to
my good luck charm? He said to me. Ever since his first race, he always had good
luck if I was with him. Saying that made me laugh. Not much of a charm today,
maybe next time. I remember saying to him. I was silently thanking him that
everything was going to be just fine and I didn t have to worry. That night he came
home, he only had a sprain wrist and a broken rib. The only other thing I was upset
about is they had to cut the jacket to get it off of him. That was my favorite racing
jacket.
This is like when Simon was killed, Ralph kept blaming everything on him and
Piggy, constantly freaking out about how they killed Simon. Piggy was the one to

Ko olau Mountains Watershed Partnership: Supporting and Sustaining Our Aina
The 100,000 acres of watershed protected by the Ko olau Mountains Watershed
Partnership serve as an invaluable resource. Without the support of the Partnership,
this amazing natural resource could be in imminent danger from a variety of threats.
Conserving our forests enables us to preserve the water supply that we depend on,
so actively working to sustain that supply by protecting the forests is in the best
interest of everyone who resides in or visits this paradise on earth. Through the
efforts of the Ko olau Mountains Watershed Partnership, we are able to maintain the
delicate balance needed to ensure the longevity of the watershed of the Ko olau
Mountains.
What Is the Ko olau Mountain Range Worth?
While you may not initially suspect that it s possible to place an actual dollar value
on this beloved Oahu mountain range, certain aspects of it can actually be described
in terms of monetary value. The drinking water that this forest supplies may actually
be valued at between $4.6 billion and $8.5 billion. The value of the habitat
surrounding the watershed can be valued at $567 million, and the aesthetic worth of

St. Johns Lutheran Church
For as long as I can remember, St. Johns Lutheran Church has been like a second
home. It is the church where I was baptized (for a second time), took first communion
and affirmed my faith through confirmation. I belonged at St. Johns. I was a member
of St. Johns.
As I entered adulthood, I had a natural instinct for organization and leadership and I
had a strong interest in using those talents to serve the church. I worked with youth
groups, participated in WELCA, served on the church council and it seemed there
wasn t a task I would not take on. Many people, myself included, anticipated the next
logical stop on my journey would be seminary.
But I didn t feel or hear the call at the time.
Nearly two decades later, I started to put the pieces of the puzzle together. It would
start with a simple but powerful statement, We are called to make disciples, not
members. That statement would lead me to reflect on and seek out a better
understanding of what it meant to be a disciple. That, in turn, led me to study and
reflect on the concept of servanthood. I realized that developing a more personal and
authentic relationship with Christ required more than just attending worship,
working in the church and simply believing in Him. I realized that living a Christ
like life required a different way of thinking, a different way of living.
The years that followed were filled with more questions than answers. It was a time
of skepticism about the work of the church and how much time
Understanding The Flow Dynamics Of An Aircraft
section{The Road to Transition.}
Understanding the flow dynamics of an aircraft in flight conditions is a very difficult
task. The process that the flow undergoes is complicated and many factors are
involved. The main understanding of this process is that it undergoes a transition
from laminar flow (linear, parallel streamlines) to turbulent (chaotic, mixed) one. The
region where this changes is called laminar turbulent transition. It is important to
understand the characteristics of the flow for prediction of this transition location.
Laminar flows are sensitive to adverse pressure gradients and are inclined to separate,
whereas turbulent flows create larger wall friction.

Reynolds cite{Reynolds1883} assessed this laminar turbulent transition by
performing experiments in a pipe. He did this by injecting ink into a pipe with a
water flow and observing the results. He noted that there were different regimes based
on the speed of the flow, laminar and turbulent regions. A parameter, which is named
after him, quantified this different behaviour of the fluid. The Reynolds number is the
ratio of the inertia forces over the viscous ones and it dictates the transition process.
We are interested in what caused this transition to occur and if there needs to be a
critical value for this transition to happen.
In aerodynamics many factors exist that contribute to the triggering of turbulence. In
a three dimensional boundary layer on a swept wing, various instabilities are
Appropriate Wildlife Management in Nicaragua Essay

Nicaragua is a Central American country in tropical region. It is surrounded by the
Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Because of the unique location, Nicaragua is
the home for various types of wild animals. Two species I will mention in this paper
are Baird s tapir and jaguarundi. They both live in rainforest ecosystem, which is the
natural home for them. Just as all other species live in Nicaraguarainforest, Baird s
tapir and jaguarundi are facing habitat loss issue. Baird s tapir is now endangered;
jaguarundi is currently not endangered but also suffer a lot from deforestation.

Nicaragua is the second poorest country of the western hemisphere and the poorest
country in Central America. Issues with poverty are mainly all Nicaragua cares right
now. Environmental issues such as deforestation are generally ignored by the
government because these problems are considered not urgent enough. However, the
government cannot neglect the importance of stopping deforestation. It is obviously
vital to this country. Tourism is a major part of Nicaragua s economy. Deforestation
is threatening this rising part of economy. Without the terrific environment and so
many wild animals, this is no way for tourism to keep developing in the future.
Therefore, protecting rainforest is not only critical for protecting wild animals, but
also critical for protecting the future of Nicaraguan economy. If the government do
not take real actions, it will be the doom for wild animals like Baird s tapir in near
future. Nicaragua is a poor country, but it still has an advantage about rainforest and
wildlife. Now it is slowly losing this advantage. Rainforest and wildlife should be the
symbol and hope for this country. Nicaragua cannot afford to lose them. They are
simply priceless.
There are many actions the Nicaraguan government should take in order to save
rainforest. Firstly, setting agreement with local

Grammatical Structure And Inflectional Morphology
Verb Subject Agreement Issues in Association with VSO and SVO Word Order
Patterns in Hijazi Arabic
Abrar Abdulrahman J. Alsanosi
California State University, Fullerton
1.Introduction Arabic belongs to the Semitic language family. It has a complex
syntactic structure and inflectional morphology. Throughout this paper, the main
variety of Arabic to be syntactically investigated is Hijazi Arabic which is spoken
mainly in the Hijaz region, the western coast of Saudi Arabia.
There are two basic types of sentences in Hijazi Arabic, the nominal sentence which
starts with a noun, and the verbal sentence which starts with a verb (Mohammad,
2000: 2). As in:

Importance and Relevance of Cultural Stories
Cultural Stories Cultural narratives reveal aspects of their indigenous culture while
at the same time reflecting universal truths. This paper examines three stories that
are germane to their native culture while also dealing with the universal theme of
individuation, the process by which one becomes aware of oneself, distinct from
other people. Each of the stories were written by authors from different cultures:
Hansel and Gretel was written by The Brother s Grimm in Germany, The Wolf and
The Lamb is an Aesop s Fable from Greece, and The Jungle Book is a set of stories
written by Rudyard Kipling in England. Although The Wolf and The Lamb and The
Jungle Book each feature animal characters, they are anthropomorphized to the extent
that they still incorporate the individuation process as a prominent trope. In each of
the stories, the main character undertakes the journey from innocence to experience
and must learn how to assert and defend himself in the face of danger and adversity.
Although Hansel and Gretel features two (eponymous) main characters rather than
one, the story still addresses the need for children to undertake the process of
individuation and fend for themselves rather than relying on one s elders. At the
beginning of the story, Hansel and Gretel are naиЄ°ve; they rely on their parents,
neither of whom can adequately care for them (they are cold and underfed), yet the
two children are also unable to adequately care for themselves. For example,

In this paper I am going to discuss about the implementation of the project
management and its execution in the project called Smart voice project in the

Introduction:
Project management is about planning and execution starting in view of the end. A
great arrangement contains objectives utilizing measurements, with ideal asset use
and reasonable calendar gauges. When a manager and his crew plan the results of
that process typically do not only concentrate on the problems that cause productivity
and quality issues. Nearly all plans emphasis only on project completion rather than

Portrayal Of Female Sex Workers
It is often hard for the average person living in great conditions with all the luxuries
this world offers like a nice car, big house, and a family to not stigmatize the
profession of female sex workers. Themes of religion, addiction, and shame
encompass the every day lives of the sex workers featured in the film Whores
Glory1. Are the sex workers working in Thailand, Bangladesh, and Mexico seen as
feminists? Do the women featured have control over their bodies? Finally, are
these women recognized by society as workers in the film? I will be analyzing the
production of the film through it s themes and support my argument that the film
Whores Glory1 is not feminist due to it s depiction of female sex workers.
Religion plays a major factor in the film by displaying how sex workers feel about
certain aspects of their profession. The different women featured from Thailand,
Bangladesh, and Mexico seek out religious practices to absolve them from
persecution from God. A cleansing of some sort like burning of sage in the
working room in Bangladesh, cleansing of black magic in Mexico, and a prayer to
Buddha in Thailand are all featured in the film right before their shift1. I found this
interesting because I felt that Glawogger attempted to portray a perception of
submissiveness to the profession by the sex workers through religious practices.
Why do women have to suffer so much? Isn t there another path for us? says a
Bangladeshi sex worker who expresses faithlessness to the

Psychology Today goes in depth on the most difficult of these relapse triggers to
cleanse from your life: friends and family members who use. They quote a common
AA saying that says, If you visit the barber shop often enough, you re bound to get a
haircut. Basically, if you keep visiting the same people and the same locations with
whom and where you used in the past, it s going to be hard to resist falling into old
patterns.
We re here to tell you that it is possible to eliminate these people and locations from
your life in a healthy manner. Call up or e mail your friends and tell them that you
care about them, but that you can t see them anymore, due to your dedication to
recovery. Nobody wants to make this step in their life, but it is one that you must
take if you want to start over again.
Make sure they understand it is nothing personal and that you would be more than
happy to see them if they quit using. In this way, you may even serve as a positive
role model that can help your friends dedicate themselves to sobriety. While you can
t force recover or sobriety on them, you d be surprised at how open they ll be if you
re honest and caring with them.
Making Your Daily Schedule About Recovery
Our lives are a mess of conflicting thoughts, actions, and responsibilities. This
confusion, understandably, causes us a wide range of emotional difficulties. Perhaps

Thesis Statement For A Persuasive Essay. Writing paper: Essay persuasive

  • 1. Thesis Statement For A Persuasive Essay Crafting an essay, especially one centered around a persuasive thesis statement, can be a challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in the need for a clear and compelling thesis but also in the meticulous construction of arguments, evidence gathering, and the artful presentation of ideas. To create a persuasive essay, one must navigate the delicate balance between assertiveness and nuance, ensuring the thesis is strong enough to command attention but flexible enough to accommodate counterarguments. A successful persuasive essay requires in-depth research to support the thesis with credible evidence. This process demands time and effort, as it involves scouring academic sources, analyzing data, and synthesizing information into a coherent narrative. Additionally, honing persuasive writing skills to effectively communicate ideas is an ongoing process, requiring careful consideration of language, tone, and rhetorical strategies. The complexity of writing a persuasive essay is further heightened by the need for a logical structure that guides the reader seamlessly through the introduction, body, and conclusion. Crafting a thesis statement that not only encapsulates the main argument but also serves as a roadmap for the entire essay adds an extra layer of challenge. In conclusion, writing an essay with a persuasive thesis statement is a demanding task that involves a combination of research, critical thinking, and eloquent expression. Success in this endeavor requires dedication, patience, and a keen understanding of the topic at hand. • 2. The Pearl By John Steinbeck Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction. In the novella, The Pearl by John Steinbeck, Kino lives with his wife, Juana, and his child Coyotito. The family lives in a small village in a town where the Spanish colonized. Coyotito goes through something striking and in order to fix it, Kino finds something life changing. Throughout the story, Steinbeck shows that materialism and greed left unchecked can lead to immoral behavior shown through the unnamed trackers, the doctor, and the main character Kino himself. Kino s attachment to the pearl causes him to destroy his marital relationship and blind himself of the bad it has caused. An example is when Kino beats up his own wife, Juana, on the beach. Juana once saw the pearl as hope, but now she views it as evil. She tries to get rid of it and throw it back into the ocean because she couldn t take it anymore. Kino, a once loving husband, turns angry and violent showed when he says, Quietly he tracked her, and his brain was red with anger (58). He follows her down to the beach and wrenches the pearl from her hands. He then punched her in the face with his fist and when she fell onto the boulders, he kicked her in the side. Kino allowed himself to love the pearl more than his own wife. Also, Juana begs Kino multiple times to get rid of the pearl because she knows it is causing evil and ripping apart their family. She says to Kino, I am
  • 3. Dual Language Learners Are Children Learning Two Or More Dual language learners are children learning two or more languages at the same time, as well as those learning a second language while continuing to develop their first (or home) language (Dual language learning, 2008). The number of children being raised in bilingual homes is large and growing, however the mechanism of languagedevelopment in children from bilingual homes is not well described or understood (Hoff et al., 2011). A large body of research has refuted the opinion that dual language input may confuse children, and other research indicates that children exposed to two languages can distinguish those languages from infancy, learn two phonological systems, two vocabularies and two grammars (KovaВґcs Mehler, 2009a; Petitto,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goals for students in dual language education programs include high levels of bilingualism and biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross cultural competence for all students (Lindholm Leary, 2012). Dual language immersion programs integrate language and academic content instruction in English and a partner language to promote bilingualism and biliteracy. Heritage languages refer to the languages spoken by immigrants and their children and has recently come to be used broadly by those concerned about the study, maintenance, and revitalization of non English languages in the United States (Montrul, 2012). Heritage language learners contain a heterogeneous group ranging from fluent native speakers to non speakers who may be generations removed but who may feel culturally connected to a language (Deusen Scholl, 2003). A heritage language program is any language development program that is designed or tailored to address the needs of heritage language learners, and heritage language programs may be at any level or setting and vary in terms of their approaches to teaching, populations they serve, and other factors (Chao, 1997). Heritage language programs have three major educational contexts: community based program, K 12, and higher education. Heritage language schools are often created out of a community s desire to pass on their language and culture from one generation to the next in order to maintain connections within families and communities

No one can say how many instruments it contains; few have agreed on playing techniques; and few could name one orchestral piece specifically written with percussion in mind. However, one thing is certain, percussion has been shown over time that it is not merely a matter of beating out rhythm ( History of Percussion 1). The family of percussion instruments is the first musical instrumentation introduced to the world. To this date there are countless percussion instruments. Each group of instruments has a different ethnic origin and history in different societies. From the shallow drums of fourth century B. C. to the giant cot ... Clappers were the earliest forms of idiophones. The Sumerians used these clappers in 3000 BC. Later on, Phoenicia derived castanets from the Sumerian clappers. The Egyptian temples of 1100 BC used cymbals in acts of worshiping their gods ( Percussion 655). There have been bronze bells found in India dated back to 1000 BC. These are one of the earliest forms of percussion discovered in physical form from India. Those who inhabited India also used musical cups, which were forerunners of the popular musical glasses. These musical cups were popular in India circa 800 AD. Western Asia is responsible for the introduction of the gong in China near the sixth century AD ( Percussion 656). The dead twisted tree trunks, and extremely vivid colours express a strong mood of isolation and desertion. Although the artwork is not as realistically precise as Glovers Constitutional Hill at sunset , it manages to express the true essences of the Australia desert. There is a house and washing blowing in the wind but there is no presence of human being, or anything living for that matter. This gives a bleak, depressing feeling. Her work is made with an almost obsessive attention to detail after painstaking research and, ultimately, total dedication to the moment of making. But despite the huge potential of the country, the performance of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in India has been decidedly mixed. Many MNCs which have succeeded remarkably elsewhere in the world have yet to make a significant impact in India. The market entry and penetration strategies that have worked so well for these companies in other countries have been for less successful in India. Many MNCs have struggled to understand Indian customers and come up with suitable products and services. At the same time, some MNCs have done pretty well for themselves. Why have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, MNCs which entered India since the 1990s have in general been more aggressive and proactive in a liberalised business environment, than those which began operations during the license Raj. Hyundai, Samsung and LG are good examples. The older MNCs like Bata have also been handicapped by the baggage accumulated over a period of time. Such companies are often at a disadvantage due to their bloated manpower and inefficient manufacturing facilities. Of the 50 plus[2] MNCs with a significant presence in India, the nine market leaders, including British American Tobacco (BAT), Hyundai Motor, Suzuki Motor, and Unilever, have an average return on capital employed of around 48 percent. Even the next 26 have an average ROCE of 36 percent. The most successful MNCs in India have some common characteristics. Resisting the instinct to transplant to India the best practices of other countries, they have treated the country as a strategic market. These companies have also taken a long term view. They have invested time and resources to understand local consumers and business conditions. They have understood that the price points that matter in India are different from those in other countries. In a country where the middle and lower end segments are critically important, affordability is a crucial factor. At the same time, some of the successful MNCs have also realised that price is not the only factor driving

Steinbeck wrote this book at the behest of a WWII soldier who desired to forget the horrors of the war he just endured. Cannery Row takes place in the cannery district of Monterey, California, following the story of Mack and his friends as the rent a converted shack from Lee Chong, a local grocer. Battle Of Thermopylae Essay Herodotus The Battle of Thermopylae In the spring of 480 BC the Persian army from all parts of the vast Persian Empire concentrated at Abydos, near the Hellespont, in order to attempt the second attack against Greece. Preparations of this campaign, started by Darius, and continued after his death in 486 BC, his son Xerxes, heir to the throne of the Persian Empire. These preparations, except the concentration of land and naval forces, included a parallel diplomatic and intelligence movements, with a view to breaking down the Greek cities, and avoiding the creation of a Greek coalition, which could cause problems in the attack of the Persian forces. The Greek position at Thermopylae, despite the small number of Greek troops, was almost impregnable. Minimum Fines And Punishments For Drivers Every person that has operated a vehicle before, or has seen a vehicle operated, understands that while driving is a very convenient mode of transportation, it can also be extremely dangerous for vehicle operators and people near the roads which vehicles are operated on. These dangers are suppressed by the rules and regulations imposed by our governments. While some laws on roadways seem to be a nuisance to drivers, they are there for a reason, to keep us safe. One specific roadway area that the government is very concerned with keeping safe would be construction zones. Currently the fines and punishments for drivers who are ticketed and/or are involved in accidents in work zones are higher than they are in regular roadway areas. The question that this essay will explore is whether or not these higher fines are appropriate. Traffic laws are the jurisdiction of the state governments and because of this the laws imposed in work zones vary between each state. Currently in Michigan all fines for speeding are doubled in work zones. Speeding in Michigan s work zones can also result in increased points on your license. Furthermore, if you injure or kill a worker in a work zone in Michigan you face a $7,500 fine and 15 years in prison. About 32 other states also enforce the double fine laws in work zones, but 24 states with these laws require workers to be present. Missouri enforces one of the steepest penalties for worker endangerment, including up to a $10,000 fine. While these

Breakfast is not just another meal it is the meal. In fact, the word itself reveals its importance. It s the first meal to break the fast. After three or more hours between dinner and bedtime, and then at least six hours of sleep, your body is craving nutrients. This would be an ideal time to have some protein mixed with some carbs. You need this right now, because the instant you wake up, your brain needs fuel. And your brain burns almost nothing but carbohydrates as a fuel source. (It also burns a very small amount of fat). If you don t get some carbs into your system first thing, you run the risk of forcing your body to convert amino acids from your muscles to carbs for use as a fuel source. Can t handle a full breakfast first thing? At least have a scoop of protein powder with a banana or strawberries mixed in a blender. Have the shake and then wait a few minutes. The Physics Of Galileo ( 1564-1642 ) An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion, with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. (Sir Isaac Newton Law of Inertia) Before the early 17th century, scientists were convinced that an object (pushed across another surface), only came to a rest once the force/s behind it stopped working. Galileo (1564 1642) a great Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher realised this was not the case. He concluded that the loss of such an objects motion was caused not by the dissipation of its original energy, but rather due to the interaction of a counteracting force known as friction. Understanding how friction acts, and the factors that affect it has been a focal point of physics ever since. Forces and Friction Measured in Newtons and symbolised by F , a force, in its simplest terms, is a push or a pull an interaction between one object and another that is responsible for changes in the motion, direction or shape of the object/s affected. The greater the force, the greater the impact it will have. Not all forces affect objects in the same way however. Non contact forces are able to exert a push or a pull upon an object despite a physical separation. Examples included: gravity, magnetism, and electricity. Contact forces on the other hand, can only affect an object through direct contact, such as air resistance, applied force, and frictional force. As a contact force, friction

Every time I found myself in a conversation I would wonder what was on the other person s mind, and how they perceived me. For instance, I attempted to decipher their true intentions, if they were honest, or if they even liked me. Since I was so focused on those thoughts, I would often miss the concept of the message, as well as the signs that could have clarified my concerns. This show is an in depth version of the movie The Wizard of Oz with a few minor detail changes. However, I will be discussing the nonverbal interactions between two of the main characters named Dorothy (Toto is always with her), and Roan. To start with, Dorothy was ambushed from behind by Ronan who forced her into a headlock, and started to strangle her with what seemed like intent to kill. Although, Dorothy s life may have been on the line and she was crying, her eyes were full of confusion. As if he was going to let Dorothy go, Roan pushed her down to the ground. She sat there propped up against a wall, as she slowly shook her head in disbelief with tears running down her face. Roan crouched down on one knee to meet her sobs with a hint of care in his eyes, but he quickly averted his gaze from hers, while holding a look of struggle on his face, as if he was fighting with himself more than he was Dorothy. Suddenly, Ronan jumped to his feet, turned his back towards Dorothy, and grasped his head with both hands. Though, the scene continues, it was at this point that I knew through nonverbal cues Ronan was assigned with what may have been the hardest task of his life; to kill Dorothy. Evidently, there was some form of historical context between the two, whether it be intimate or not is currently unknown to me. The nonverbal cues of this episode gave me the impression that I had a fair understanding of the interactions of each scene. However, without hearing the conversations that took place it was surprisingly difficult to decipher the meaning of each scene. With that in mind, I do believe focused observation of nonverbal cues helps improve effective listening by keeping the attention of the audience on the speaker, which could result in the listener becoming more responsive. Conversely, nonverbal cues should not be the main focus for the listener, but instead the entirety

Mary Crawford is the antithesis of any Fanny Price and she is conceived to win the admiration of almost any reader. The strange and perverse rejection of Mary Crawford s vitality in favour of Fanny s debility lies at the very heart of the novel s intention. Fanny is a Christian heroine: it is therefore not inappropriate that the issue between her and Mary Crawford should be concentrated in the debate over whether or not Edmund Bertram shall become a clergyman. Fanny sees the church as a career that claims a man s best manly energies but for Mary, ordination is a surrender of manhood. In the 19th century England the ideal of professional commitment inherits a large part of the moral prestige of the ideal of the gentleman. Humility is obviously an appropriate virtue for the Christian heroine, but equally important in Jane Austen s canon is, as always, the impulse towards

Kittleson states on page fourteen The primary purpose of this book is to tell the story of Martin Luther to readers who are not specialists in the field of Luther studies and who have no desire to become ensnared in the arguments of specialists. That is exactly what the book does, it felt as if it was directed at a student such as myself, who has little to no knowledge of Luther, and told not only of his personality traits but his life career. Kittleson starts the reader off before Luther is born and takes him through his life s career all the way to Luther s death. One thing that I found interesting in the book was rather than start with Luther when he began to study theology, he began before Luther was even born discussing the life of Luther s father. Luther was born as a peasant to Hans and Margaretta Luder, the author says Luther s birth was a matter of such insignificance that he and his friends later debated the exact year, (pg.31) meaning that not even Luther himself knew when he was born because it was so unimportant. Luther s father, Hans, was a very successful and loyal father who played a heavy influence on his son s early life. Hans was a devoted man, the morning Luther was born Hans rushed him to the Church of St. Peters to have him baptized. Shortly

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, physical activity is defined as any body movement that works your muscles and requires more energy than resting (2011). Physical activity is commonly associated with improving one s health, especially the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems. The benefits supplementary to physical activity can apply to people of both genders and all ages and races (NHLBI, 2011). These benefits can include maintaining a healthy weight for one s age group, essentially making everyday life easier, and lowering the risks of many diseases that can occur anytime throughout a lifetime such as coronary heart disease (CHD), diabetes, cancer, and even depression (NHLBI, 2011). Weight problems, such as being overweight or even obese, are issues many struggle with in today s society. This can establish long term effects such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and overall unhealthy lifestyle. Being physically active for even a small amount a day can decrease the risks of having these prominent issues. If physical activity is taught to be a lifestyle early on in life, then it will become a routine and create a more active, healthier society as a whole. Target Audience As mentioned earlier, physical activity can be performed by everyone and can benefit everyone no matter the gender, race, or age. In today s society, lack

Most cases are concluded with a recollection of events and revealing hints that only Holmes knew of, presented almost conversationally from Holmes to Watson. With his first person account of the mystery, Doyle uses Holmes to clarify any remaining confusion or questions that linger in readers minds as the chapter ends. It is the church where I was baptized (for a second time), took first communion and affirmed my faith through confirmation. I belonged at St. Johns. I was a member of St. Johns. As I entered adulthood, I had a natural instinct for organization and leadership and I had a strong interest in using those talents to serve the church. I worked with youth groups, participated in WELCA, served on the church council and it seemed there wasn t a task I would not take on. Many people, myself included, anticipated the next logical stop on my journey would be seminary. But I didn t feel or hear the call at the time. Nearly two decades later, I started to put the pieces of the puzzle together. It would start with a simple but powerful statement, We are called to make disciples, not members. That statement would lead me to reflect on and seek out a better understanding of what it meant to be a disciple. That, in turn, led me to study and reflect on the concept of servanthood. I realized that developing a more personal and authentic relationship with Christ required more than just attending worship, working in the church and simply believing in Him. I realized that living a Christ like life required a different way of thinking, a different way of living. The years that followed were filled with more questions than answers. It was a time of skepticism about the work of the church and how much time
  • 45. Understanding The Flow Dynamics Of An Aircraft section{The Road to Transition.} Understanding the flow dynamics of an aircraft in flight conditions is a very difficult task. The process that the flow undergoes is complicated and many factors are involved. The main understanding of this process is that it undergoes a transition from laminar flow (linear, parallel streamlines) to turbulent (chaotic, mixed) one. The region where this changes is called laminar turbulent transition. It is important to understand the characteristics of the flow for prediction of this transition location. Laminar flows are sensitive to adverse pressure gradients and are inclined to separate, whereas turbulent flows create larger wall friction. Reynolds cite{Reynolds1883} assessed this laminar turbulent transition by performing experiments in a pipe. He did this by injecting ink into a pipe with a water flow and observing the results. He noted that there were different regimes based on the speed of the flow, laminar and turbulent regions. A parameter, which is named after him, quantified this different behaviour of the fluid. The Reynolds number is the ratio of the inertia forces over the viscous ones and it dictates the transition process. We are interested in what caused this transition to occur and if there needs to be a critical value for this transition to happen. In aerodynamics many factors exist that contribute to the triggering of turbulence. In a three dimensional boundary layer on a swept wing, various instabilities are

Environmental issues such as deforestation are generally ignored by the government because these problems are considered not urgent enough. Deforestation is threatening this rising part of economy. Without the terrific environment and so many wild animals, this is no way for tourism to keep developing in the future. This paper examines three stories that are germane to their native culture while also dealing with the universal theme of individuation, the process by which one becomes aware of oneself, distinct from other people. Each of the stories were written by authors from different cultures: Hansel and Gretel was written by The Brother s Grimm in Germany, The Wolf and The Lamb is an Aesop s Fable from Greece, and The Jungle Book is a set of stories written by Rudyard Kipling in England. Although The Wolf and The Lamb and The Jungle Book each feature animal characters, they are anthropomorphized to the extent that they still incorporate the individuation process as a prominent trope. In each of the stories, the main character undertakes the journey from innocence to experience and must learn how to assert and defend himself in the face of danger and adversity. Although Hansel and Gretel features two (eponymous) main characters rather than one, the story still addresses the need for children to undertake the process of individuation and fend for themselves rather than relying on one s elders. At the beginning of the story, Hansel and Gretel are naиЄ°ve; they rely on their parents, neither of whom can adequately care for them (they are cold and underfed), yet the two children are also unable to adequately care for themselves. Portrayal Of Female Sex Workers It is often hard for the average person living in great conditions with all the luxuries this world offers like a nice car, big house, and a family to not stigmatize the profession of female sex workers. Themes of religion, addiction, and shame encompass the every day lives of the sex workers featured in the film Whores Glory1. Are the sex workers working in Thailand, Bangladesh, and Mexico seen as feminists? Do the women featured have control over their bodies? Finally, are these women recognized by society as workers in the film? I will be analyzing the production of the film through it s themes and support my argument that the film Whores Glory1 is not feminist due to it s depiction of female sex workers. Religion plays a major factor in the film by displaying how sex workers feel about certain aspects of their profession. The different women featured from Thailand, Bangladesh, and Mexico seek out religious practices to absolve them from persecution from God. A cleansing of some sort like burning of sage in the working room in Bangladesh, cleansing of black magic in Mexico, and a prayer to Buddha in Thailand are all featured in the film right before their shift1. Why do women have to suffer so much? Isn t there another path for us? says a Bangladeshi sex worker who expresses faithlessness to the
