Essays About Teaching
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essays About Teaching" can be a challenging endeavor,
presenting a unique set of difficulties. The complexity arises not only from the need to articulate
thoughts coherently but also from the depth and breadth of the subject matter itself. Teaching is
a multifaceted domain, encompassing various theories, methodologies, and evolving educational
paradigms.
One of the challenges lies in navigating through the vast literature on teaching and education to
distill key insights and relevant information. The field is dynamic, with ongoing research,
changing pedagogical approaches, and diverse perspectives that require careful consideration.
Balancing the theoretical underpinnings with practical examples and real-world applications adds
another layer of complexity.
Moreover, expressing personal reflections and experiences related to teaching can be both
introspective and demanding. Articulating thoughts about one's teaching philosophy, strategies,
and the impact on students involves self-awareness and the ability to communicate effectively.
Crafting a compelling essay on teaching also requires the skill to engage the reader, making the
topic accessible and interesting. Striking the right balance between academic rigor and a
conversational tone can be challenging, as the essay should appeal to both educators and those
with a general interest in education.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Essays About Teaching" is no easy feat. It demands a
thorough understanding of educational concepts, effective communication skills, and a reflective
approach to personal experiences. However, for those seeking assistance or looking for
professionally crafted essays on various topics, it's worth exploring resources like

Recitatif Analysis
Although James Joyce s The Dead and Toni Morrison s Recitatif were written in
two completely different eras, and each narrative sets out to accomplish its own
doing, we can draw clear parallel s, as well as contrasts that undoubtedly
accompany those. We are able to find similarities in underlying themes employed
by both James Joyce, as well as Tony Morrison. One of the most evident parallels
we are able to draw between the two texts lies in the recognition of reflection and
sentiment, paired with the growing disparity as the characters reflect back upon
their past. Reflection is a crucial part in accepting who we are and how we got
where we are, it is easy to be preoccupied in the trials of day to day life and neglect
to give ourselves moments of disengagement and privacy amidst our own journeys.
Speaking on the prevalent theme of reflection, evident in both texts we can clearly
see the emotional toll that derives from the characters concealed sentiments of
nostalgia. In both texts, much of the rhetoric is centered around this omnipresent
sense of regret and rumination that appears to plague the characters and does seem to
somewhat distract them from completely living in the present. The divergence
between past and present is more apparent in Toni Morrisons Recitatif , because the
story encompasses a larger span of Twyla and Roberta s lives, from the point in
which they are eight years old, being first introduced as roommates at St Bonny s,
up until after Twyla s son graduates high school. The story begins with the two
young girls being dumped at St Mary s by their respective mothers, both of which
were equally ill equipped to raise children. Roberta s motherwho was sick and Twyla
s who: liked to dance all night (pg. 132). The story then chronicles the girls leaving
the orphanage and the series of subsequent chance encounters which follow. Upon
each meeting the girls are given a chance to contemplate their past, which brings up
controversial topics for both, in particular the friction that accompanies the rhetorical
question: What the hell happened to Maggie? (pg. 147). Characterized as an
outsider, Maggie is a mute kitchen helper working in St Bonnies, however she plays
an integral part of the

African-American In Motion Pictures
African American In Motion Pictures
How did African Americans enter film? When did they? African Americans had a
hard time entering film. Who are some successful black actors today in Hollywood?
According to the sources I ve read, American Americans had a very complex time in
the history in the American motion industry. In the early 20 s, things like the Civil
War were still being discussed. Society wanted African Americanto stay in their
place, so they were given roles such as criminals, servants, and other negative roles.
Society wanted to keep the social order. Most roles that were played by African
Americans were played in an all black casted film. In movies like this, Blacks were
given more positive and diverse roles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

diversity, not seeing more than one race. That s why Disney has created more
princesses with different cultures and ethics. Mainly, we used to see more Caucasian

Not only do we see diverse of race on animation film, we hear the diversity. We hear
people like Jennifer Lopez , Beyonce , and Eddie Murphy in animation films today .
This begins to show the change in history of animation film. We have diverse of races

What Is The Theme In Psalm 23
The heart is the greatest weapon any warrior holds because when it is connected to
God it makes one undefeatable. David, who had a heart for God, would create some
of the most beautiful symbolic themes in his psalms by combining his faith and love
of the Lord with everyday settings that he was familiar with during his time. The
symbolic theme of Psalm 23identifies Davidas both a shepherd and sheep by creating
a peaceful mood through the tranquil settings.
Theme
Although this psalm is often recited at funerals or solemn occasions, the original
theme that David established in Psalm 23 is faith and assurance in the Lord. This
is determined by the very first line of this poem David allows the reader to see
himself as a servant of the Lord and not the great King of Israel, The Lord is my
shepherd, I lack nothing (Psalm 23:1 NIV). As David continues Psalm 23 , he starts
building on the assurance of putting his full trust into God. The use of the words
made and lead explains that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His metaphorical use of saying that the Lord is a shepherd, while considering
himself a sheep is very ironic because he is combining his past life experience with
the theme and settings of this psalm. David describes the detailed work a shepherd
must do to provide security and disciple his flock by saying the Lord s rod and
staff comfort me (Psalm 23:4 NIV). As a shepherd David understood the
importance of finding his lost sheep, because without the protection of their
shepherd they would have to face the world alone. David carefully reflects this into
the mood of Psalm 23 , so the reader can gain an understanding of how God will not
let His sheep stray too far. David allows the reader to gain a true sense of feeling
protected and guided because he states that God s hands will guide them
Essay On Stephen Curry
We may have one of the best all time NBA shooters playing right before our eyes.
That player is none other than Stephen Curry. It has been apparent mostly this year in
the season he is currently playing with the Golden State Warriors. With the NBA
being quite contemporary, Stephen Curry has done things never before seen on the
basketballcourt. There have been many NBA legends in awe and left speechless
because of the talents of Curry. Stephen Curry has proven to best the best shooter in
NBA history by having a great work ethic, inheriting genes from his father, and
having the team he has around him.
The work ethic that Stephen Curry has developed over the years has really benefited
him greatly. Steph s mindset and determination to become better than he already is

The team that Curry has is a record setting team that fits to his playstyle. Curry s
teammates helped him flourish to the special player he is today. Curry has
teammates that are willing to sacrifice their points to help the team win and vice
versa. According to the chart in NBA.com (Stephen Curry Career Stats), it
portrays how many assists Curry has produced. An assist is where a player passes
the ball to another player who then scores. Curry has averaged 6.9 assists
throughout his entire career and he has played with the same team all those years.
Those plays involve an intricate set of movements that so far have been successful
for Curry s teammates. There are some who would say that those plays can be run
for any player and have the same outcome. The matter of fact is that specific types
of players have different types of roles and abilities. And Curry s teammates have
proven to execute plays and compliment Curry s playstyle

He also taught me that you also needed to be courageous because life is tough and
you need the courage to stand up to it and get the job done. Last he taught me to
have honor in whatever I do because I did it and no one can take that away from
me. That s also why I joined the military to honor my father and be an inspiration to
my kids like he was to me. Finally he was a husband to my mother where I learned
many things from him. One thing is that it is harder to be honest than to lie and
that lies can have devastating effects on a marriage so it s always better to just be
honest. He also taught me that we are human and we are not always right no
matter how much we think we are right. Last he taught me to be strong because
being a husband means to be the rock in the relationship and you have to be there
for her no matter what situation is going on. This is why I see him as my dad not
just my father because he is a great father which taught and inspired me to be a great
father. He was a great soldier which taught and inspired me to be the best person I
can be. Finally he was a great husband which inspires me to keep being a great
husband. I love my dad and I hope he will stay around for as long as he

Introduction
Solvent extraction is dependent on the two liquids having different polarities so that
they do not mix with each other (Example Crude oil and water). When these two
liquids are mixed together they form separate layers, these two liquids would
therefore be described as immiscible.
A lot of organic acids cannot be dissolved in water although can be dissolved when
placed in organic solvents. However, their sodium salts are soluble when mixed with
water and insoluble when mixed with organic solvents. This is mostly down to the
salts being ionic and the acids are almost completely undissociated. Sodium salts can
be formed by the reaction of an organic acid with aqueous sodium hydroxide.
RCOOH + NaOH пѓ RCOO Na + H2O
Aim
The aim of the experiment was to purify an organic acid and to synthesise crystals of
the organic solvent. These crystals would then be used to determine the melting point
and to calculate the mass of the sample obtained.
Experimental
20cm3 of organic acid was measured in a measuring cylinder and transferred to the

Argumentative Analysis Of Richard Wright s Native Son
Argumentative Essay on Native Son Richard Wright made a film adaptation called
Native Son , speaking on a time frame where segregation was still present in 1940 s
of Chicago, a man was accused of murder. This film took a quick wrong turn when
something unpredictable happened causing conflicting views. In addition to this
racism played a great deal in his crimeto be found guilty. In addition to this racism
played a great deal in his crime to be found guilty. The purpose of this essay to
examine Richard Wright s film adaptation of Native Son and his innocent crime in
regards to racism, violence, and poverty, to discuss view of points of whether he is
guilty or innocent.
In the film Native Son by Richard Wright, Bigger Thomas is the main character of
this film. In the begging Bigger had to kill a rat, he lived with just is sisters and
mother meaning he had no father figure in his life. Bigger went straight to the
streets with his friends to plan a robbery on the Bum s store. They felt like since the
owner was a white male they needed to bring guns; the plan fell threw. Bigger gets a
job offer from the Daltons family, he goes to watch a movie about the daughter Mary
Dalton. Leads to Bigger finding out that Mary is dating a communist and that herself
is rebelling against her family. After the movie he met up with his friends again and
when one of them are late Bigger gets full of anger bringing out a knife of his friend.
After the argument with his friends Bigger goes
Aerobic And Anaerobic Cellular Respiration
Aerobic and Anaerobic Cellular Respiration Respiration describes sequences of
enzyme catalysed biochemical reactions within cells to produce life sustaining
energy (Turtle, 2015). Muscle activity relies on biochemical energy from Adenosine
triphosphate (ATP), a high energy molecule in cells which stores and supplies
energy. To make ATP, a muscle cell (Myocyte) utilises Oxygen provided by
Myoglobin (a muscle fibre oxygen binding protein) and breaks down glucose in
aerobic cellular respiration. The chemical reaction yields Carbon dioxide, water and
energy.
Structure of glucose molecule (BBC, 2014) Glucose (C6H12O6) + Oxygen (6O2) =
Carbon dioxide (6CO2) + Water (6H2O) + ATP Energy
To yield energy ATP is broken down, with the aid of ATPases, into Adenosine
diphosphate (ADP), a phosphate and energy.
ATP вћ™ ADP + Pi (phosphoric acid) + Energy
A sequence of Glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, Krebs cycle and Oxidative
Phosphorylation linked oxidation reduction (Redox) biochemical reactions are
involved in respiration. Glucose is stripped of electrons which are added to oxygen
and reaction releases tiny amounts of energy that drives ATP formation.
(Horne and Bear, 2014) In the cytoplasm, Glycolysis involves the breakdown of a
six carbon ring glucose molecule and requires a two ATP investment but yields 4
ATP, two three carbon ring pyruvates and two energy rich NADH. B vitamin NAD+
combines with energised electrons and a hydrogen to create stored energy that

Do Violent Video Games Cause Violent Behavior Essay
Do violent video games cause behavioral problems? For years this topic has been
highly debated amongst parents and the players. Violent video games do cause
behavioral problems because they alter a gamers mind.
Risk factors are a major part of behavioral problems. A risk factor of behavior
problems are behaviors that are harmful, disruptive, and impulsive. A majority of
researchers say that it is unlikely that playing violent video games will cause a child
with no other risk factors to turn into an extremely violent person(Lee). This being
said, violent video games are a common risk factor among adolescents (Cooper).
Personal background, peers, neighborhoods, and genetics are other common risk
factors. Combined, these risk factors can cause violent behavior to occur (Calvert).
Continually being exposed to violent acts will eventually lead to violent behavior.
Exposure to violence will cause some form of violence to develop over time.
Unnecessary violence, such as video games, are causing problems that would
otherwise not be an issue. For example, in one study, 161 nine through twelve year
old s and 344 college students were randomly assigned to play either a violent or
nonviolent video game throughout a specific amount of time. The participants played
a game against the computer in which they set punishments levels for their
opponents. Those who played the violent games appeared to have harsher
punishments than those who played nonviolent games (Cooper).
Children often imitate the actions of characters from games they play and find it
difficult to separate reality from fantasy. Kids are changing the way they think. Says
Dr. Gentile. He explains that long term exposure to this media can potentially lead to
changes in both thinking and behavior. Generally speaking, when children play these
games they really enter into the spirit of things. In many of these games, one must
play as a specific character throughout the game. From beginning to end, the player
is required to make decisions as if he/she was actually that character, facing new
challenges and completing quests with every new section of the game. These games
require the player to be an active participant, allowing them to decide the destiny of

The Treatment Of The United States
Andy was embarking on his second semester of his junior year in college. After a
long bout with a cold and the sudden emergence of a protruding mass on his chest, he
knew something was not right. Within a week, he received devastating news a
diagnosis of an aggressive form of bone cancer. The treatment regiment included two
years of chemotherapy and radiation. The extensiveness of his cancer made surgical
treatment impossible. After just his first dose of chemotherapy, he became septic and
spent six weeks in an intensive care unit followed by weeks of rehabilitation.
Although he had been optimistic about continuing to attend classes and staying
involved with campus organizations throughout the treatment course, a disabled
immune system and countless days in the hospital prevented this. His friends and
peers became distant because his appearance and prognosis made them
uncomfortable and speechless. He eventually relied on his mother and closest friends
to take him to appointments because of increasing weakness and chronic pain. When
his world was virtually turned upside down and he eventually lost much of his
independence, Andy started to display symptoms of major depressive disorder.
According to the DSM 5, individuals who have a major depressive episodewithout
history of mania are diagnosed with major depressive disorder (Comer, 2014, p.
175). Five or more symptoms of a major depressive episode must be present for a
diagnosis. Andy s symptom presentation included
French Calendar Dbq
During the French Revolution the National convention had many reasons for
adopting the calendar. The peasants and clergy members had different reactions to
the new calendar, some were positive and some negative. This change took place
after King Louis в…©в…Ґ and his wife Marie Antoinette were imprisoned and later
executed. And before Emperor Napoleon took over. There were many reasons that
played a role in the adoption of the new calendar. The reasons effected the way the
French people felt about the calendar. One document that stood out that had
significant reasoning was document 1. The third estate of ChИѓteau Thierry was
basically writing a list of demands that some of the citizens wanted the new calendar
to include. One thing they demanded that there would be less religious holidays.
Another reason this document was significant was because the third estate had...

Another reason people think the Catholic Church was mad is the less religious
holidays the less the clergy members make. To stop this from happening the church
created the calendar of saints. This calendar was an important significant because it
show the difference in power the catholic church had between the Renaissance and
the French revolution had drastically decreased. It can be inferred that clergy
members believed that the 7 day week was sent from god and that it was a sin to
change that. The economic crisis that France was in played a huge role in the
desire for a fresh start. France was in major debt after losing the 7 years war which
didn t help their economic system. This lead to inflation which cause bread to be
so expensive that the peasants couldn t barely afforr. So in that aspect the 10 day
week was good because it allowed them to make more money. These are all
significant reason of why the new calendar was adopted as well as reaction to the
calendar that the documents don t

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Development
Emily Bradshaw
Professor David Iannaccone
Introduction to Psychology
December 4th, 2014
Abstract
In this research paper, I explained what Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory of
development is and why it is important for the developing child to overcome said
conflicts. I also talked about the different effects of not overcoming the conflicts
Freud had determined that would lead to adult behaviors.
Over the years, Sigmund Freud has created many theories involving many different
ideas in the psychological world. One theory that stood out to me throughout our
journey in introduction to psychology is Freud s developmental theory. Freud s
development theory is the influence that sexual growth has on personality
development from birth to adult life, with the phases of sexual maturation designated
as oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital. (psychosexual development. (n.d.). The
American HeritageВ® Stedman s Medical Dictionary. ) This theory stood out to
me the most because I feel that Freud has a very unique idea of how we, as
humans, develop and how almost every stage refers to a different growth, yet all
involve sexual ideas. Sigmund Freud was said to believe that once a child reached
adulthood at eighteen years of age that they were fully grown. Many psychologists
have went against this theory however to discover that humans do not stop growing
at eighteen. All the stages of psychosexual development have a conflict in which has
to be resolved or the child will have

The Importance Of Information On Computer Systems
Visual detection tools are also used by attackers to make a phishing message seem
real to an extent that even those users with knowledge about computer systems are
easily duped. The phishers are able to make use of syntax to make unreal
information seem like what is expected by the user (Dhamija, Tyga and Hearst,
2006). Computer users should also equip them with knowledge regarding security
indicators such that they are able to distinguish messages delivered in a secure way
from those that are not. Fraser conducted an experiment that contained a DNS Server

The information is mainly obtained from public sources. The kind of information an
attacker requires is that of his target s web servers, name of domain servers and mail
servers. The scanning phase entails the attacker familiarizing himself with the targets
systems in order to identify any loopholes in the system. The attacker then exploits
the available points of weakness in a target s system to create a threat that is likely
to ensure that the system behaves in a manner that the attacker intends (Fraser,
2017). The attacker then uses information obtained to cause distress among his
targets. Security researchers and attackers have both identified ways of determining
security related weaknesses on systems. The researchers and attackers are also able
to automatically create codes to manipulate the vulnerabilities. Today, only those
vulnerabilities that have previously been detected are able to be prevented.
However, most desktop machines and laptops often succumb to attacks that have not
been witnessed before (Skoudis, 2009). The attackers are able to detect flaws in
systems before manufacturers can come up with ways of controlling them. Security
analysts insist that the increased cyber attacks are due to use of automated tools
called bots by the attackers. The attacks involve use of a large number of
compromised computers to initiate attacks via internet in swarms (Wilson, 2003).

The Notion Of Lex Sportiva
The notion of Lex Sportiva in many ways mirrors the nature of the debate regarding
its subject matter. Two academic schools of thought have debated since the 1980 s
as to to the role of national legal systems within sporting contexts. More recently
however, the debate has changed to one which questions the validity of Lex Sportiva
or global sports as a genuinely distinguishable, and unique branch of law. As Gianni
Infantino has suggested both politicians and legal scholars have discussed the much
vexed question of the so called sporting exception. Academic Ken Foster has claimed
that Lex Sportiva is even more niche, arguing that legal principles applied to sporting
circumstances do not necessarily amount to the formation of Lex... Show more

As Siekmann and Soek have suggested the CAS is responsible for the development
of a new and useful jurisprudence derived from its awards . One could justifiably
argue that the CAS fills the gap between sporting governing bodies and traditional
legal systems in the sense it will hear matters of purely sporting significance.
Simply, those cases that do not fall within the remit of traditional legal judgements.
This somewhat intermediary role is illustrated in Football Association of Serbia v.
UEFA, in which the Serbian football association wished to contest the awarding of
a point sanction during qualifying for the 2016 European Championships. Clearly
in this case there is no breach of European community law. Yet, the CAS enables a
bespoke service to challenge sporting judgements regardless of the opinion of
traditional legal systems. Therefore one may justifiably argue that the CAS is a
quasi judicial body that successfully provides a reference on the unique nature of
sporting regulation and codification. However as James has suggested The UK has
no formal definition of sport and consequently no formal definition of sports law
perhaps meaning that lex Sportiva is a not as clearly defined as previously
assumed. As late as the 1980 s the laws relationship with sporting contexts was
typified by a piece meal, ad hoc approach to legislation
Triple Bottom Line Accounting Concept And Framework

by John Elkington in the mid 1990 s, and has since changed the way for profit, non
profit and government agencies measure the sustainability of their initiatives and

the specific needs of an organization. The framework is comprised of three parts,
which are: social (People), environmental (Planet), and financial (Profit), commonly
referred to as 3Ps. This framework does spark debate regarding the ethical problems
behind measuring, quantifying and accounting for social and environmental

Financial measures in the Triple Bottom Line accounting framework should follow
the common financial accounting guidelines, Generally Accepted Accounting
Principle s, and International Financial Reporting Standard s. The financial measures
in the Triple Bottom Line accounting framework however are not under as much
scrutiny as the Environmental and Social measures, though there is debate over
certain ethical aspects of Financial Accounting as a well. Financial Accounting in a
business is usually not changed in a dramatic way, when a company decides to
adopt the TBL framework. Some changes that financial records might reflect include
an increase in expenses related to environmental or social care, a decrease in
expenses that reflect a detriment to the society or environment (i.e. Transportation
Expense), a possible increase in revenues as a result of customer support of the
adoption of TBL.
Triple Bottom Line accounting brings light to the importance of accounting for
Environmental measures, as it helps a company track their ecological footprint and
make plans to improve it. A company can be profitable for several years, however if
Where To Start In High School
2. Where to begin?
Well I would begin at a high school because, I would be harder if u go ahead without
knowing what you did first. This would give me enough time to learn more about
computers and start studying them by figuring out how they work it might be hard
but worth it and what each and every part of the computer does. You can begin to use
computers at school or take classes to help you. You can learn many things like
programming, animating, website making and other stuff like that. You can even do
after school programs or ask a teacher for help and help.

Affordable Care Act
Health care is one of the major political issues facing the nation today. Most
industrialized countries have national healthcare system, while the United States only
provide coverage for those who are eligible under government programs like
Medicare and Medicaid. As the cost of health care to continue to increase, many
question the role of the government while other blame insurance companies for
increase in premium.
The United States spend entirely to much money on health care compared to other
industrialized countries. Yet, other countries achieved far better health for more
people at less cost, according to OECA. Of the 34 countries rated by the OECD
study, the United States ranks #1 in health care spending per capita and #1 in

According to CNN reporter Anderson Cooper, Christiana Turner was sexually
assaulted by two men after being slipped knockout drugs in her drink at the bar. She
took anti AIDS medicine prescribed by her doctor for proper precautions. But never
developed an HIV infections. Months later she was denied coverage. Turner was
told by her insurers that the HIV medication raised too many questions. She was also
told to remain AID free for the next three to four years (Ivory, 2015).
The Affordable Care Act help prevent cases like this from reoccurring. Now, your
health premiums is based on your age, state, and whether you smoke or not (Ivory,
2015). The idea was to get more people insured. Some like that idea, while others
didn t, and probably always will be opposed to getting more people insured. Many
who criticize the ACA complain of increased costs for their insurance. These are
typically self employed and earning too much to receive subsidies.
Although the ACA have made progress, many still question whether or not this
new law is working. The law is too complicated for people to understanding their
coverage. The ACA is not perfect , but at least the U.S. has taken one step toward
reducing the disparities between rich and poor and providing health coverage to
everyone (Gruber, 2011). In this paper I will discuss the benefit of the ACA and the
affect it will have on provider reimbursement.
Effects of
Jewish People During The Holocaust
The Holocaust was one of the most acknowledged genocides due to hundreds of first
hand accounts from Jews in the form of diaries, memoirs, and statements from the
people themselves. Among these Jews were Anne Frank, Leon Leyson, Jeannine
Burk, Yitzhak Rudashevski, David Rubinowicz, and Moshe Flinker. Some of these
Jewsaccounts were analyzed by Jacob Boas in his book, We Are Witnesses. Anne
Frank s experience during the Holocaustgenerally differed from other Jews in
hiding because of her family s situation and the luck they had. Her daily life and
lasting emotional effects strongly contrasted from Jewish people who lived in
ghettos and small rooms, like Leyson and Burk. Anne s access to food and supplies
and the aid and support from others depended on her family s ability to plan and
think ahead. She and Rudashevski were able to establish a sense of normalcy in their
lives while living as Jews that often faced persecution, although they turned to
different activities to divert their attention away from the mass deaths occurring
around them. Through their words and writings, the world has observed the different
experiences and reactions of the Jews who faced the abhorrent racial discriminations
from Nazis and gentiles.
Daily life for Jewish people during the Holocaust largely varied, depending on mainly
their luck and their ability to think ahead. Anne Frank, according to the information
given from her diary and the play, lived in a large attic compared to unfortunate
Summary Of Walker Percy sThe Loss Of The Creature
Progression 1 Close Reading Walker Percy s essay, The Loss of the Creature, points
out a growing problem with the state of humanity: People have lost their ability to
evaluate worth on their own, in what Percy refers to as their sovereignty. Percy
delivers his message without most of the technical jargon one would expect. In doing
so, the problem he points out seems like something that is accessible to the average
person, rather than a concept that is far from our understanding. To begin his
inquiry of life and sovereignty, Percy argues why a person can t see the Grand
Canyon for what it is. Percy tells the story of a famous explorer, Garcia Lopez de
Cardenas, who was astonished by his discovery of what is now known as the Grand
Canyon. Percy briefly describes The Grand Canyon, and then he asks a question that
might confuse readers at first. Percy asks, Does not one see the same sight from the
Bright Angel Lodge that CГЎrdenas saw (Percy 1)? The anticipated answer that
most readers would say is yes, but as one reads on, Percy argues otherwise. In
following up on his question, he attempts to make his point clear by assigning the
label P to Cardenas Grand Canyon experience. (Percy 1) He argues that when
sharing the value of P with millions of sightseers, each person doesn t receive the
same experience of Cardenas, result in one millionth of its worth. By using values to
demonstrate worth, Percy says that experiences can be added to and taken from them.

Analysis Of Hershey Corp. And Tootsie Roll
Financial Statement Analysis Project Hershey Corp. Tootsie Roll Industries
Liquidity
Based on the ratio analysis performed, it appears that the Hershey Company s
liquidity is sufficient to meet cash needs and current obligations. The current ratio
and current debt coverage ratios were decreasing from 2002 through 2004, which
corresponds to an increase in short term debt and a decrease in cash on the Company
s balance sheet over the same periods. Hershey attributes the increase in debt to
corporate consolidations, capacity expansion, and modernization and efficiency
improvements. Outside of the increase in debt, accounts receivable turnover and
average days collections appear to be steady, which indicates that Hershey is able to

Profitability
Hershey s ratios indicate that the Company s ability to earn income is increasing
across the periods analyzed. Increasing profit margins and gross profit rates indicate
that the Company is managing its costs effectively. Increasing return on assets
indicates that the Company has been effectively using its assets to generate earning
power. The Hershey Company appears to be profitable and is effectively managing
costs and resources to generate increased income and provide greater return to its
investors, demonstrated by increases in return on equity and earnings per share.
Although all of Tootsie Roll s profitability ratios decreased slightly between 2002
and 2004, the results appear fairly consistent. This Company appears to provide a
steady profit and rate of return to its investors. Its profit margins and return on equity
are slightly higher than that of Hershey, although both companies appear solid in
their ability to generate profits. The stock price has also fluctuated less, providing a
steady price/earnings ratio. This is another indicator of a strong, steady performance
by Tootsie Roll Company, and stable profitability results.
As of 2008, Hershey Company still appears to be providing strong investor returns.
Although its profit margin has decreased, its gross profit rate has remained steady,
indicating that the Company is still effectively
Sudden Death In Denver, A Day To Remember
Sudden Death In Denver, A Day To Remember. January 8, 2012 dawned Cristal
cold in Denver. The snowfall from the night before had vanished, giving way to
bright sunshine. The winter sun began its slow ascension above the Rocky
Mountains, as if to glimpse over the upper deck of Mile High Stadium at the
spectacle to come. It was cold. However, the chances of the Broncos proceeding to
the second round of the NFL playoffs were even colder.
Quarterback Tim Tebowhad assumed the helm of a struggling Bronco team that
was sporting a 1 and 4 record in late October. They looked to be out of sorts and out
of answers. With early elimination from the playoffs approaching, Denver fans were
demanding that Tebow be given a chance to save the season.

In week 11 against New York, It took a gut check do or die 80 yard drive to beat the
Jets with little time remaining. In week 14 against the Bears, a fumble late in the
game ignited a flurry of Bronco points, allowing a heart stopping victory over
Chicago at the gun.
Denver was riding the momentum of a six game winning streak. Tebow and the
Broncos had become a national phenomenon. They were bucking the law of
averages. Yet no one could see beyond the horizon and the adversity that lay ahead.
Denver went on to lose their last 3 games, giving the Broncos an 8 and 8 record. It
appeared that footballs version of Cinderella had now struck midnight. True to form,
however, another miracle occurred for the 2011 Broncos. Despite their record,
Denver would proceed to the first round of the playoffs against the vaunted Pittsburgh
Steelers. Despite being playoff bound, a bleak cloud engulfed the team. The critics
had reemerged, proclaiming that Tebow and the Broncos had no chance against the
superior Steelers. They raged on about how Tim Tebow would meet his Waterloo on
that cold playoff Sunday.
Yet once gain and for the last time, the determined Broncos refused to follow the
script against Pittsburgh. Tim Tebow was quick and decisive from the opening
whistle. He was accurate his passes tried and true. Scanning the field with confidence,

Student Athlete Vs College
There is time for work, and there is time for play. Everyone knows that, because
everyone has been told at least once before. At some point, there comes a time
where you must choose between the two. For a student, the decision can be
simple. Spend a night at the library to finish that final English paper, or spend a
night out with friends to relieve some stress. For a student athlete, the choices are
not exactly the same. For a student athlete, there may not even be a choice at all!
Game days fall on test days, classes end as practice starts, and a night out with friends
is better spent asleep in your bed. If you ask any athlete receiving scholarship, play
time is not really play at all, it s more like work. The second we pick up a ball in...

Especially when I got to college. How could this 18 year old kid be taking this many
classes and still have time for practice, let alone time with friends? As I was working
to finish a 5 page paper, the lacrosse guys were working to finish a 5 mile run. Why
on earth would one choose this path if they both led to the same result? I never
understood, until I talked to one of them. Matt was a freshman at Illinois State
University, coming from his hometown of Naperville. Matt was also late for
class... He stumbled in, looked towards the teacher for any sign of pity, and finally
found a spot in the desk next to me. I could tell by his team jacket and sweaty hair,
that he had just come from lacrosse practice. Hey man, do you play lacrosse here? I
asked. He looked at me with almost a sigh of relief; he now had someone who
understood his struggle. I do! he replied, Our first game is this Saturday! Without
beating around the bush, I whispered, How do you have time to do schoolwork,
and lacrosse? He laughed, I actually have a job too if you can believe it. Out of all
of them, lacrosse is the only one that keeps me in check. It doesn t really feel like
work to me, it s just something that I really enjoy . The realization came to me at
once after these words. The same way I felt about writing a paper was the same way
Matt felt about lacrosse. It wasn t work; it was finally a chance to play! Sure, both
take a lot of long hours and dedication, but where we choose to allocate this
dedication is what makes us the individuals that we are! I guarantee Matt couldn t
write a better English paper than myself. I also guarantee that I couldn t keep up with
him during a 5 mile run. We are
Juan Rulfo s Pedro Paramo
The main universal theme of Pedro Paramo is that death is inevitable. This is
shown by the fact that everyone is dead in Comala. The author of Pedro Paramo is
Juan Rulfo, he was born in Sayula, Mexico. His book collections such as The
Burning Plain (1953) and the book Pedro Paramo made him a big literary figure.
In Pedro Paramo, Juan is sent on a journey to find his father (Pedro which who the
book is written after) who sent his mom away because she kept asking continually
to see her sister. Juan gets to Comala where he meets Abundio (the Mule driver)
who sends him to Dorotea. Juan ends up dying of fear from the voices and shadows
and dead people. Juan Rulfo, author of Pedro Paramo, uses symbols such as sleep,

Canada s Multicultural Dynamic
Canada s multicultural dynamic presents the country with a unique perspective
unlike no other. The nation is made up of citizens with different heritages, traditions
and practices that have positively integrated into Canadian society ever since the
government began to acknowledge diversity within the country. This paper will argue
that multiculturalismrepresents a qualitatively better approach to ethnic diversity than
did the Canadian immigration and cultural policies that preceded it. Restricted
immigration and aboriginal assimilation negatively affect the larger picture of
Canadian culture in comparison to public policy supporting multiculturalism.
The idea of Canada being a multicultural society has arguably been around since the

They had no choice in the matter and children were going to be taught how to
assimilate into Canadian society. This was done through the implementation of a
residential school system and therefore be forced to lose ties to a culture they knew
their whole lives. They continued to be segregated socially, silenced politically, and
marginalized economically (76). The Canadian government in this period was vested
in decreasing diversity while promoting assimilation and limiting the multicultural
character of Canada (Davis 70). A political shift in ideals favoring multiculturalism
was necessary before the government continued to make decisions that would
compromise their integrity as well as continue a developing racist and prejudiced
society into the future.
It was not until the 1960s when previous assimilation and limited diversity began to
change. The federal decision to move away from ethnic intolerance and assimilation
saw the beginnings of diversity tolerance for Canada. The government was left with
no choice but to tailor their mandates around the shifting opinions of Canadians.
Increasingly, Canadians found the old policy incompatible with the liberal and
democratic values of Canada (71) along with increased disaffection with the policies
of assimilation on the part of minatory ethnic groups themselves (71). Social
standards were changing amongst the general public.
Theme Of Ignorance In Noah s Go Hitler
Naturally occurring ignorance in society is described by Robert Proctor as a
...sense of native or originary state implies a kind of deficit, caused by the naivete of
youth or the faults of improper education or the simple fact that here is a place where
knowledge has not yet penetrated (Proctor 6). This naГЇve state described by Proctor
s appeal to logos is present through all societies and could be viewed to be a prompt
for learning, leading to knowledgereplacing the ignorance in the place. This natural
state of ignorance is exemplified through Trevor Noah s Go Hitler in which the kids
involved simply don t know the connotation behind the name Hitler. Noah s narrative
depicts these kids playing music at a Jewish school representing their culture at a
cultural festival with a lead dancer named Hitler.... Show more content on

The staff at the festival shut it down and an argument ensues because the people
playing music think that the Jewish audience disapproves of their cultural taste in
music when they are actually appalled by what they perceive is them praising
Hitler. This situation exemplifies Proctor s proposed natural ignorance in which the
people playing music didn t understand the issue due to the fact that they had a lack
of knowledge about what was happening in Europe during World War II. This
conflict of interests in Noah s article illuminates Proctor s main point that ignorance
should not be accepted but rather explored in order to grow into knowledgeable and
leave the state of natural
Cleopatra Research Paper
Cleopatra: The life and legend When the name Cleopatra is uttered in the west it is
most likely to be greeted with recognition. In western cultures this last Queen of
Egypt is a popular subject for stories. A tale told in many ways, Cleopatra s story
has been told in literature, plays, and movies. She is even a popular subject in art.
Her s is a story about an exotic woman who used sex and cunning to get what she
wanted. It is a story about murder, seduction, and manipulation. It is the classic tale
written as a warning about all women with power. It was a story told by her
enemies after her death. Cleopatra was not a simple seductress, she was an
intelligent and at times ruthless woman, she was one of the great rulers of Egypt.

She was a descendant of the greek Ptolemy I who was a friend of Alexander the
Great, who had conquered Egypt a few centuries before her time, and was a general
in Alexander s army (Hawass 2010:16). Upon the death of Alexander the Great
Ptolemy I took control of Egypt and started the Ptolemaic dynasty (Hawass 2010:16).
Cleopatra VII, was born in 69 B.C.; she was the second daughter and child of
Ptolemy XII, who had five legitimate children in all (Roller 2010:3). During the
first few years of Cleopatra VII s life marked a fairly quiet time in the reign of her
father; but during this time he gave an extensive amount of money to Roman
leaders as a payment for their support of his leadership and help in controlling the
Egyptian people (Roller 2010:18 21). Ptolemy XII began taking loans from a
Roman banker to help support this habit, and imposed heavy taxes on his people
which caused a revolt and strike of farmers. Despite all this influx of revenue
Ptolemy continued to spend exorbitant amounts on both gifts for Roman leaders
and for his own lavish tastes, feeding his debts to Rome (Roller and Roller
2010:21). Due to the unrest of the now starving people in Egypt of that time, and
the fact that Ptolemy XII let his brother Ptolemy of Cyprus fall, watching silently as
Cyprus became a Roman territory, there was an uprising in 58 B.C. (Roller 2010:22).
So Ptolemy XII escaped Egypt and the revolt of his people by fleeing
Diverticulitis
Diverticular disease has two separate manifestations. The subtle signs and symptoms
of diverticulosis are important to understand because many people who have this
problem are asymptomatic, but often this diverticular disease can lead to a more
serious condition known as diverticulitis. In diverticulosis, there are diverticula
present, but they do not cause any symptoms. In diverticulitis, which will be
discussed in detail, the diverticula are inflamed which can lead to other serious
consequences for the patient (Gramse, 1983). Diverticulitis is a bugling protrusion of
a mucous membrane through the wall of the colon(Marrs, 2006). These saclike or
pouch protrusions have the potential to cause inflammation, obstruction, infection, and

Fifteen percent of the remaining patients develop symptoms of their diverticulosis,
while the remaining five percent develop diverticulitis. The symptoms of
diverticulosis are often hard to differentiate and determine because they are often
nonspecific symptoms, such as simple abdominal pain that is relieved by moving
their bowels (Marrs, 2006). Once inflammation occurs, the diverticulosis is
progressed to diverticulitis. This inflammation occurs from the large number of
bacteria that target the areas of weakened gastrointestinal wall and combine with
undigested foods. It is still unknown today why some diverticula became inflamed
while others do not. There are some theories surrounding this issue that states the
inflammation occurs only when the erosion of the colon wall is so bad that the body
s immune system is unable to protect such a large, disrupted area. In some cases, the
inflammation gets so bad and infection co exists. This combination can result in the
enlargement of the infection, allowing it to extend into the abdomen and become
peritonitis when it infects the lining of the abdomen (Unknown, 2010). Diverticulitis
is often classified as either uncomplicated and mild or complicated and chronic.
Regardless of the classification of the disease, pain is the main symptom. Since
diverticulitis occurs most often in the Sigmoid colon, the pain associated with
diverticulitis occurs most often in the lower, left quadrant of

Symbolic Interactionism And Illegal Immigration
With Symbolic interactionism, the truth is seen as social, created interaction with
others. Most symbolic interactionists trust a physical reality does in reality exist by
an individual s social definitions, and that social definitions do create to a limited
extent or connection to something genuine. People subsequently don t react to this
reality specifically, yet rather to the social comprehension of reality. People in this
manner exist in three substances: a physical target reality, a social reality, and a
remarkable reality. The point of view of symbolic interactionismgives understanding
of the everyday workings of illegal immigration. Interaction of subjects with illegal

The System Of Collective Rights
A lot has been said about the Brazilian system for the protection of collective rights,
of its innovations in terms of procedure, and especially the possibility of protecting
interests that in the past could not reach the Courts. However, it seems that the
effectiveness of its execution is not discussed to the same extent.
In general, the specific injunctions are preferred due to the very nature of the rights
involved. However, not rarely it ends up being unsuccessful, so that the pecuniary
reparation remains.
In these cases, it seems that the system created a safeguard, by predicting that the
amount from convictions in class actions, or the leftover values after individual

Next, the Diffuse Rights Defense Fund (FDD), a reference for the analysis for funds

the strongest and unified. It is about analyzing its configuration, operation, origin and
application of the amount of money that it is assigned to allocate.
Again, based on the comparative study it is investigated what the doctrine considers

The Beaufy of Puerto Rico Essay
My research paper will be about Puerto Rico and its importance to the spanish
language. It is located in the Caribbean sea, southeast of Florida. It is home to many
US citizens in its beautiful tropic landscape. In this paper I will explain the important
aspects of the Puerto Rican government, the people, and the lovely food.
GOVERNMENT
The capital of Puerto Rico is San Juan. Puerto Rico is a United States Territory under
commonwealth status. Some of the major differences between the 50 states of the
US and Puerto Rico is that Puerto Rico does not share the same federal tax, but does
have similar government income tax rates. Puerto Rico does have authority over its
internal affairs. Also Puerto Ricans cannot vote in Presidential or ... Show more

The Spanish colonists provided an entire new selection of food to the Taino s. The
spanish conquistadors brought pigs, chicken, many new vegetables, wheat and
sugar cane. These new items of food from the spanish had a major impact of
modern day Puerto Rico food. Another group of people to influence the food of
Puerto Rico was the African slaves. Juan Garrido was a free African Spaniard man
who was the first African to live in Puerto Rico. Garrido was the first person that
taught the Taino s who to grow wheat properly. Africans are believed to be the ones
that brought rice into the Taino diet. A Puerto Rican breakfast mainly consists of
some sort of pastry or bread and a coffee and milk. Breakfast is not major meal in
the Puerto Rican diet. Two pastries are Mallorca and quesito. Mallorca is a light
pastry bread with sprinkled sugar on it. Quesito is a common pastry. It is a flaky,
puff pastry wrapped around sweetened cream cheese. It is extremely delicious. No
Latin American breakfast would be complete without a cafe con leche. Appetizers
play a major role in Puerto Rican food. Tostones are fried plantains. A plantain is a
long green banana. Bananas are a main Puerto Rican food. ANother popular Puerto
Rican food is Mofongo. Mofongo is a mashed mound of plantains. Seafood, meat, or
vegetables is added to this dish. It is usually made with fried green plantains that are
mashed together in a pilГѓВіn (a mashing utensil),
Being An Effective Leader For Your People
When asked to envision myself in a future leadership role, the first thing that
comes to mind is my future self as a first class midshipman, simply because that
will be the first actual role I will get to assume. Exactly what billet I would hold is
hard to say, but I do not believe the position is all that important. What is important,
I feel, is how you treat those around you and those under you. However, for the sake
of writing, I will assume I will be a squad leader. Throughout this course, we have
discussed multiple parts of leadershipthat are central to being an effective leader.
While each part we have studied is different, they all have the same idea: being an
effective leader for your people. I will best be prepared to succeed by putting to
practice these different parts and focusing on their development for the future.
Specifically, those leadership traits I would aim to develop are the ability to reflect
better and servant leadership. An important part of leadership, as we deemed, is one
s ability to reflect: to learn from previous or current situations, and to put to practice
what you have learned. Reflection does not have to be a long, drawn out process
that requires hours of your time or journaling. Though these things can be a part of
reflection, reflecting only has to take a moment. The point of reflection is to analyze
a certain situation by taking a step back, looking through a different scope, and
realizing that which could have been done differently.
Air Mass Research Paper
Identify the different air mass types, their origins, and their characteristics
There are five primary air masses in the earth s atmosphere. They are polar, tropical,
arctic, continental and maritime. Each have unique origins from around the world.
These air masses have their own characteristics such as warm, cold, hot, dry and
moist. I will describe each type of air mass including their origin and characteristics.
In addition, I will cover what happens when these air masses combine.
The first air mass I will cover is the polar (P) air mass. Polar is formed poleward of
60 degrees north or south. It is typically cold or cool in temperature. The tropical (T)
air mass is formed within about 30 degrees of the equator. Its characteristics are ...

The official definition of weather is the condition of the atmosphere at a particular
location and moment. Current weather reports are constantly given and are always
changing. They usually include temperature, humidity, dew point, pressure, wind
speed and direction, cloud cover and precipitation. The difference between weather
and climate is that weather is for a specific moment in time, whereas climate is over
years and years. Meteorology is defined as the study of weather and climate.
Meteorologists look at both the long term climate of areas as well as recent weather
Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis
Pre implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is a procedure couples use to test the
normality of their offspring s genes. This procedure is used for couples that have a
known risk of passing on a genetic abnormality to their offspring. PGD is used all
around the world to help couples become pregnant with healthy babies that aren t
diagnosed with a genetic disease passed down from them. PGD is used to select an
embryo that isn t affected by a genetic disease such as cystic fibrosis. PGD is
available to test for single genedisorders, translocations, inversions, chromosomal,
aneuploidy or X linked disorders. Pre implantation Genetic Diagnosis is a procedure
used prior to implantation to help identify genetic defects within embryos. This
serves to prevent certain genetic diseases or disorders from being passed on to the
child. The embryos used in PGD are usually created during the process of in vitro
fertilisation(IVF). When used to screen for a specific genetic disease, its main
advantage is that it avoids selective pregnancytermination as the... Show more content

are cultured in the laboratory.
At day 3 of the embryo development, a small hole is made on the outside shell of
the embryo (the zona pellucida) with a delicate laser beam. On day 5/6, an embryo
biopsy is performed. By this time, the embryo should have reached the blastocyst
stage which consists of an inner cell mass (forms the foetus) and trophectoderm cells
(forms the placenta). The trophectoderm cells should have herniated through the hole
made in the outer shell of the embryo on day 3 in which these cells (approximately
five cells) are collected for analysis.
The biopsied cells are transferred to a small tube for genetic testing. Due to the time
taken to perform the genetic testing, the embryos must be frozen after the
HIV Infections in African American Males Essay
HIV infections in African American Males have been a national growing problem
since the early 1990 s. According to CDC, in the United States, there are more than
1 million people living with HIV. 48 percent are afro American males between the
ages 13 44(CDC, 2007). It is estimated that around 1 million people in the United
States will be diagnose with HIVin the up coming year with the lifetime risk of
becoming infected is 1 in 16 for black males (CDC,2007). However, there is growing
concern about the disproportionate increase of HIV among adolescent African

Pros And Disadvantages Of Proportional Representation

Stephen Harper s government believed he could exploit the financial advantage
that was unavailable to his opposition by calling an early election in order to
increase the possibility of winning as many single member districts as possible and
in turn, the federal election. However, because of other factors such as his own
policies (Syrian refugee crisis and his policy on the Niqab), he appeared to have
made some politically incorrect choices, which therefore ended the Conservative
government s ruling of Canada. Had the Canadian government employed Proportional
Representation instead of the First Past The Post system, then the Conservatives
would have still had more in the current affairs of Canada, except for simply being the
opposition. By carrying out various research, it has become apparent that the structure
of the Canadian parliamentary system certainly has its advantages, however at the
same time it is not the structure and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There in itself lies one significant advantage for Harper, as under the parliamentary
system, he could call the election whenever he wanted. However even with this
system having this advantage, with regards to a financial gain, there is no limit in
the presidential system. What this menas is that even with the presidential system,
Harper could still outspend his opposition and would have therefore been in a
similar position as the one under Canada s current system. In this instance, it is
shown that both systems would still achieve the same outcome, which is also
reflected by Nelson Wiseman, a politics professor at the University of Toronto If
there s a strong appetite for change...there will be a swing. (Armstrong, J. 2015, July
30). This indicates that regardless of what system Canada was governing with, the
ultimate outcome would have still been the same, due to the fact that the citizens
wanted change (Terry Milewski; Jean Pierre Kingsley,

Similarities Between Scrooge And Bob Cratchit
Scrooge s clerk, Bob Cratchit had a clear view of the vexation clearly shown on
Scrooge s face as he snatched up a ruler with such vigour that the child who had
begun to recite a Christmas carol frantically scrambled away. He had been looking
through the key hole of the counting house. Bob Cratchit felt a small drop of pity for
the youth but many a child had been warned of Scrooge s frosty temper particularly
upon ChristmasEve.
When the long awaited hour to finally shut up the counting house arrived, Scrooge
unwillingly alighted from his wooden seat and wordlessly signalled to Bob Cratchit
that it was indeed closing time. Bob Cratchit unlike Scrooge unhesitatingly
extinguished his candle and quickly placed his tattered hat upon his head.
The Red Convertible Summary
The Red Convertible by Louise Erdrich is a short about the lives of two Chippewa
brothers living on an Indian reservation in North Dakota. Erdrich uses the symbol of
red to show emotions associated with red and the setting which allow readers to
understand the text while providing opportunity to read a lot more into the story. Color
associations varies with many different cultures. Although Erdrich created a Native
American story, she draw readers of different backgrounds to find some relationship
with colors. There are two specific connotations of the color red. The first are positive
associations which include passion, strength, and love. All these notions are seen in
the story, often connected to Lyman. Lyman is the one who is lucky and had good
luck with numbers .l. He had passion for money and was usually strong. The readers

What Is The Increased Diversification Of The
Undergraduate...
The increased diversification of the undergraduate student population in the United
States higher education system has been well documented (Barefoot, 2002;
Hutchinson, 2010; Pascarella Terenzini, 1998), and has resulted in greater access for
marginalized populations (Kuh, 2008). Specifically, the number of undergraduate
student parents has risen from around 3.2 million in 1995, to 4.8 million in 2012
amounting to 26% of the total collegepopulation (Institute for Women s Policy
Research, 2016). Despite this burgeoning group, student parent success as measured
by retention rates are alarmingly low; only one third attain a degree or certificate

One could infer a culture that is both steeped in tradition and history as well as a
community that fosters advancement and growth. As such, one of the key tenants of
UMTC s mission is to provide access to resources to help individuals and
organizations respond to their changing environments (UMN, 2008). Applied in a
student parent context, one can distinguish this mission through the Student Parent
Help Center (SPHC) and the resources it provides undergraduates with children.
Established in 1967 as an academic support program for low income students, HELP
(Higher Education for Low Income People) was initially charged with providing
services for traditionally underserved populations (UMN, n.d.). However, with
various programs forming across the university in the late 1980 s to address
underrepresented students (TRIO, among others), HELP began to focus exclusively
on the specific needs of student parents. Today, the Student Parent HELP Center (now
within the greater Office of Student Affairs) works to eliminate the challenges student
parents face while completing their first Bachelor s degrees. A secondary mission is
to encourage participation in higher education among teen parents in the greater
metro area (UMN, n.d.). Accordingly, this mission could not be more relevant: from
2004 2012, the student parent population increased by 61% in the plains region of the

Rudolf Virchow s Impact On Modern Biological Sciences
Rudolf Virchow could be considered one of the greatest biologists of 19th century,
and perhaps even of all history. His abundance of work is also mostly accurate,
sparing a couple minor and major misconceptions. He has even received an award
for his efforts. This pathologist has greatly impacted modern biological sciences.
Before one learns his achievements, it is imperative to know his early years. On
October 13, 1821, Rudolf Virchow was born in rural Pomerania, an area in Prussia.
He lived as an only child (Kearl, 2015). As a child, he had a fascination of the
natural world. Virchow earned a great education because of his gift of intelligence (
Virchow, Rudolf Carl, 2015). Originally, Virchow sought to be a pastor. He

One of his biggest discoveries is the formation of cells. In 1855, Virchow stated
that cells are made from other cells, which is still proven to be true today. He is not
considered the first person to state this, but once he suggested this many other
scientists took this thought seriously. Prior to this, it was understood that
imbalances in the body produced a substance called blastema, which caused cells
to be made. He is attributed to performing the first organized autopsy, which is now
a common medical practice. The discovery of Leukemia is also accredited to him.
In 1847, Rudolf and a fellow physician, Benno Reinhardt, published their own
scientific journal. In said journal, the two asserted that medical practices should be
based on only well proven science. The duo rejected several contemporary medical
practices that had been around for ages, such as Galen s use of humors which was
later proven to be incorrect (Doc, 2015). He later began to publish textbooks such
as Cellular Pathology (Titford, 2015). Virchow also was an advocate of the
improvement of public health for all social classes. In the medical science field,
Virchow made an abundance of other discoveries. He published more than 2,000
scientific books and papers throughout his life, mainly in microscopic pathology. The

And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor
Dostoyevsky
The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels
No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a
variety of different characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the
emphasis on the internal events and the inner mental life of its characters, that this
type of the novel is probably one of a kind in which characterization is more
prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate from earlier
epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this
genre was a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for
his other novels, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers
Karamazov, this text offers a take on characters of his fascinating short novel The
Gambler which was written in 1866. Two topics are woven within the zealously
intricated storyline. The one is desperate longing for a distant woman and the another
one is a passion for gambling that Dostoyevsky himself at the time was struggling
with. At the same time, the novel was inspired by the topic ... Show more content on

Royal Caribbean s Anthem Of The Seas
Overview
On February 2016, Royal Caribbean s Anthem of the Seas sets sail off the East
Coast of New Jersey with more than 6,000 passengers and 1,500 crew members on
board (Almasy, 2016). The passenger ship sailed into a storm which threatened the
lives and safety of everybody on board. According to CNN and other news
agencies, a lawsuit was filed in a Miami federal court alleging the captain s
negligence in sailing into a well publicized and forecasted storm. In another case,
Royal Caribbean s Explorer of the Seas was on a 10 day cruise in January when a
fast moving bug left nearly 700 passengers and crew stricken with vomiting and
diarrhea. The CDC reports that this is the highest number of sick people reported on
any cruise ship in two decades. Yet, in another report, the Eastern Star went down
during a storm killing more than 450 people. It s the deadliest boat disaster in
China in almost 70 years Cruise Line Safety: In the last 5 years, approximately
1000 people have died on cruise ships which ran aground or sank (Ahmed, 2016).
Ironically, there are a lot of people who will never get to experience of going on a
cruise because of the fear driven by reports like the aforementioned. In actuality,
cruise vacations have a higher percentage of satisfied customers than any other
vacation experience. There are a number of compelling reasons why a cruise would
be an ideal vacation for family and friends. Taking a cruise can have many different

  • 2. Recitatif Analysis Although James Joyce s The Dead and Toni Morrison s Recitatif were written in two completely different eras, and each narrative sets out to accomplish its own doing, we can draw clear parallel s, as well as contrasts that undoubtedly accompany those. We are able to find similarities in underlying themes employed by both James Joyce, as well as Tony Morrison. One of the most evident parallels we are able to draw between the two texts lies in the recognition of reflection and sentiment, paired with the growing disparity as the characters reflect back upon their past. Reflection is a crucial part in accepting who we are and how we got where we are, it is easy to be preoccupied in the trials of day to day life and neglect to give ourselves moments of disengagement and privacy amidst our own journeys. Speaking on the prevalent theme of reflection, evident in both texts we can clearly see the emotional toll that derives from the characters concealed sentiments of nostalgia. In both texts, much of the rhetoric is centered around this omnipresent sense of regret and rumination that appears to plague the characters and does seem to somewhat distract them from completely living in the present. The divergence between past and present is more apparent in Toni Morrisons Recitatif , because the story encompasses a larger span of Twyla and Roberta s lives, from the point in which they are eight years old, being first introduced as roommates at St Bonny s, up until after Twyla s son graduates high school. The story begins with the two young girls being dumped at St Mary s by their respective mothers, both of which were equally ill equipped to raise children. Roberta s motherwho was sick and Twyla s who: liked to dance all night (pg. 132). The story then chronicles the girls leaving the orphanage and the series of subsequent chance encounters which follow. Upon each meeting the girls are given a chance to contemplate their past, which brings up controversial topics for both, in particular the friction that accompanies the rhetorical question: What the hell happened to Maggie? (pg. 147). Characterized as an outsider, Maggie is a mute kitchen helper working in St Bonnies, however she plays an integral part of the

David, who had a heart for God, would create some of the most beautiful symbolic themes in his psalms by combining his faith and love of the Lord with everyday settings that he was familiar with during his time. The symbolic theme of Psalm 23identifies Davidas both a shepherd and sheep by creating a peaceful mood through the tranquil settings. Theme Although this psalm is often recited at funerals or solemn occasions, the original theme that David established in Psalm 23 is faith and assurance in the Lord. As a shepherd David understood the importance of finding his lost sheep, because without the protection of their shepherd they would have to face the world alone. David carefully reflects this into the mood of Psalm 23 , so the reader can gain an understanding of how God will not let His sheep stray too far. David allows the reader to gain a true sense of feeling protected and guided because he states that God s hands will guide them

When these two liquids are mixed together they form separate layers, these two liquids would therefore be described as immiscible. A lot of organic acids cannot be dissolved in water although can be dissolved when placed in organic solvents. However, their sodium salts are soluble when mixed with water and insoluble when mixed with organic solvents. This is mostly down to the salts being ionic and the acids are almost completely undissociated. Sodium salts can be formed by the reaction of an organic acid with aqueous sodium hydroxide. These crystals would then be used to determine the melting point and to calculate the mass of the sample obtained. • 11. Aerobic And Anaerobic Cellular Respiration Aerobic and Anaerobic Cellular Respiration Respiration describes sequences of enzyme catalysed biochemical reactions within cells to produce life sustaining energy (Turtle, 2015). Muscle activity relies on biochemical energy from Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a high energy molecule in cells which stores and supplies energy. To make ATP, a muscle cell (Myocyte) utilises Oxygen provided by Myoglobin (a muscle fibre oxygen binding protein) and breaks down glucose in aerobic cellular respiration. The chemical reaction yields Carbon dioxide, water and energy. Structure of glucose molecule (BBC, 2014) Glucose (C6H12O6) + Oxygen (6O2) = Carbon dioxide (6CO2) + Water (6H2O) + ATP Energy To yield energy ATP is broken down, with the aid of ATPases, into Adenosine diphosphate (ADP), a phosphate and energy. ATP вћ™ ADP + Pi (phosphoric acid) + Energy A sequence of Glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, Krebs cycle and Oxidative Phosphorylation linked oxidation reduction (Redox) biochemical reactions are involved in respiration. Glucose is stripped of electrons which are added to oxygen and reaction releases tiny amounts of energy that drives ATP formation. (Horne and Bear, 2014) In the cytoplasm, Glycolysis involves the breakdown of a six carbon ring glucose molecule and requires a two ATP investment but yields 4 ATP, two three carbon ring pyruvates and two energy rich NADH. B vitamin NAD+ combines with energised electrons and a hydrogen to create stored energy that

  • 13. Do Violent Video Games Cause Violent Behavior Essay Do violent video games cause behavioral problems? For years this topic has been highly debated amongst parents and the players. Violent video games do cause behavioral problems because they alter a gamers mind. Risk factors are a major part of behavioral problems. A risk factor of behavior problems are behaviors that are harmful, disruptive, and impulsive. A majority of researchers say that it is unlikely that playing violent video games will cause a child with no other risk factors to turn into an extremely violent person(Lee). This being said, violent video games are a common risk factor among adolescents (Cooper). Personal background, peers, neighborhoods, and genetics are other common risk factors. Combined, these risk factors can cause violent behavior to occur (Calvert). Continually being exposed to violent acts will eventually lead to violent behavior. Exposure to violence will cause some form of violence to develop over time. Unnecessary violence, such as video games, are causing problems that would otherwise not be an issue. For example, in one study, 161 nine through twelve year old s and 344 college students were randomly assigned to play either a violent or nonviolent video game throughout a specific amount of time. The participants played a game against the computer in which they set punishments levels for their opponents. Those who played the violent games appeared to have harsher punishments than those who played nonviolent games (Cooper). Children often imitate the actions of characters from games they play and find it difficult to separate reality from fantasy. Kids are changing the way they think. Says Dr. Gentile. He explains that long term exposure to this media can potentially lead to changes in both thinking and behavior. Generally speaking, when children play these games they really enter into the spirit of things. In many of these games, one must play as a specific character throughout the game. From beginning to end, the player is required to make decisions as if he/she was actually that character, facing new challenges and completing quests with every new section of the game. These games require the player to be an active participant, allowing them to decide the destiny of their

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Development Emily Bradshaw Professor David Iannaccone Introduction to Psychology December 4th, 2014 Abstract In this research paper, I explained what Sigmund Freud s psychosexual theory of development is and why it is important for the developing child to overcome said conflicts. I also talked about the different effects of not overcoming the conflicts Freud had determined that would lead to adult behaviors. Over the years, Sigmund Freud has created many theories involving many different ideas in the psychological world. One theory that stood out to me throughout our journey in introduction to psychology is Freud s developmental theory. Freud s development theory is the influence that sexual growth has on personality development from birth to adult life, with the phases of sexual maturation designated as oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital. (psychosexual development. (n.d.). The American HeritageВ® Stedman s Medical Dictionary. ) This theory stood out to me the most because I feel that Freud has a very unique idea of how we, as humans, develop and how almost every stage refers to a different growth, yet all involve sexual ideas. Sigmund Freud was said to believe that once a child reached adulthood at eighteen years of age that they were fully grown. Many psychologists have went against this theory however to discover that humans do not stop growing at eighteen. All the stages of psychosexual development have a conflict in which has to be resolved or the child will have

The kind of information an attacker requires is that of his target s web servers, name of domain servers and mail servers. The scanning phase entails the attacker familiarizing himself with the targets systems in order to identify any loopholes in the system. The attacker then exploits the available points of weakness in a target s system to create a threat that is likely to ensure that the system behaves in a manner that the attacker intends (Fraser, 2017). The attacker then uses information obtained to cause distress among his targets. Security researchers and attackers have both identified ways of determining security related weaknesses on systems. The researchers and attackers are also able to automatically create codes to manipulate the vulnerabilities. Today, only those vulnerabilities that have previously been detected are able to be prevented. However, most desktop machines and laptops often succumb to attacks that have not been witnessed before (Skoudis, 2009). The attackers are able to detect flaws in systems before manufacturers can come up with ways of controlling them. Security analysts insist that the increased cyber attacks are due to use of automated tools called bots by the attackers. The attacks involve use of a large number of compromised computers to initiate attacks via internet in swarms (Wilson, 2003). The use of

One could justifiably argue that the CAS fills the gap between sporting governing bodies and traditional legal systems in the sense it will hear matters of purely sporting significance. Simply, those cases that do not fall within the remit of traditional legal judgements. This somewhat intermediary role is illustrated in Football Association of Serbia v. UEFA, in which the Serbian football association wished to contest the awarding of a point sanction during qualifying for the 2016 European Championships. Clearly in this case there is no breach of European community law. Yet, the CAS enables a bespoke service to challenge sporting judgements regardless of the opinion of traditional legal systems. Therefore one may justifiably argue that the CAS is a quasi judicial body that successfully provides a reference on the unique nature of sporting regulation and codification. However as James has suggested The UK has no formal definition of sport and consequently no formal definition of sports law perhaps meaning that lex Sportiva is a not as clearly defined as previously assumed. Financial Accounting in a business is usually not changed in a dramatic way, when a company decides to adopt the TBL framework. Summary Of Walker Percy sThe Loss Of The Creature Progression 1 Close Reading Walker Percy s essay, The Loss of the Creature, points out a growing problem with the state of humanity: People have lost their ability to evaluate worth on their own, in what Percy refers to as their sovereignty. Percy delivers his message without most of the technical jargon one would expect. In doing so, the problem he points out seems like something that is accessible to the average person, rather than a concept that is far from our understanding. To begin his inquiry of life and sovereignty, Percy argues why a person can t see the Grand Canyon for what it is. Percy tells the story of a famous explorer, Garcia Lopez de Cardenas, who was astonished by his discovery of what is now known as the Grand Canyon. Percy briefly describes The Grand Canyon, and then he asks a question that might confuse readers at first. Percy asks, Does not one see the same sight from the Bright Angel Lodge that CГЎrdenas saw (Percy 1)? The anticipated answer that most readers would say is yes, but as one reads on, Percy argues otherwise. In following up on his question, he attempts to make his point clear by assigning the label P to Cardenas Grand Canyon experience. (Percy 1) He argues that when sharing the value of P with millions of sightseers, each person doesn t receive the same experience of Cardenas, result in one millionth of its worth. By using values to demonstrate worth, Percy says that experiences can be added to and taken from them. Next, Percy

I never understood, until I talked to one of them. Matt was a freshman at Illinois State University, coming from his hometown of Naperville. Matt was also late for class... He stumbled in, looked towards the teacher for any sign of pity, and finally found a spot in the desk next to me. I could tell by his team jacket and sweaty hair, that he had just come from lacrosse practice. Hey man, do you play lacrosse here? I asked. He looked at me with almost a sigh of relief; he now had someone who understood his struggle. I do! he replied, Our first game is this Saturday! Without beating around the bush, I whispered, How do you have time to do schoolwork, and lacrosse? He laughed, I actually have a job too if you can believe it. Out of all of them, lacrosse is the only one that keeps me in check. It doesn t really feel like work to me, it s just something that I really enjoy . The realization came to me at once after these words. The same way I felt about writing a paper was the same way Matt felt about lacrosse. It wasn t work; it was finally a chance to play! The nation is made up of citizens with different heritages, traditions and practices that have positively integrated into Canadian society ever since the government began to acknowledge diversity within the country. This paper will argue that multiculturalismrepresents a qualitatively better approach to ethnic diversity than did the Canadian immigration and cultural policies that preceded it. The Canadian government in this period was vested in decreasing diversity while promoting assimilation and limiting the multicultural character of Canada (Davis 70). A political shift in ideals favoring multiculturalism was necessary before the government continued to make decisions that would compromise their integrity as well as continue a developing racist and prejudiced society into the future. It was not until the 1960s when previous assimilation and limited diversity began to change. The federal decision to move away from ethnic intolerance and assimilation saw the beginnings of diversity tolerance for Canada. The government was left with no choice but to tailor their mandates around the shifting opinions of Canadians. Increasingly, Canadians found the old policy incompatible with the liberal and democratic values of Canada (71) along with increased disaffection with the policies of assimilation on the part of minatory ethnic groups themselves (71). Upon the death of Alexander the Great Ptolemy I took control of Egypt and started the Ptolemaic dynasty (Hawass 2010:16). Cleopatra VII, was born in 69 B.C.; she was the second daughter and child of Ptolemy XII, who had five legitimate children in all (Roller 2010:3). During the first few years of Cleopatra VII s life marked a fairly quiet time in the reign of her father; but during this time he gave an extensive amount of money to Roman leaders as a payment for their support of his leadership and help in controlling the Egyptian people (Roller 2010:18 21). Ptolemy XII began taking loans from a Roman banker to help support this habit, and imposed heavy taxes on his people which caused a revolt and strike of farmers. Despite all this influx of revenue Ptolemy continued to spend exorbitant amounts on both gifts for Roman leaders and for his own lavish tastes, feeding his debts to Rome (Roller and Roller 2010:21). Due to the unrest of the now starving people in Egypt of that time, and the fact that Ptolemy XII let his brother Ptolemy of Cyprus fall, watching silently as Cyprus became a Roman territory, there was an uprising in 58 B.C. Fifteen percent of the remaining patients develop symptoms of their diverticulosis, while the remaining five percent develop diverticulitis. The symptoms of diverticulosis are often hard to differentiate and determine because they are often nonspecific symptoms, such as simple abdominal pain that is relieved by moving their bowels (Marrs, 2006). Once inflammation occurs, the diverticulosis is progressed to diverticulitis. This inflammation occurs from the large number of bacteria that target the areas of weakened gastrointestinal wall and combine with undigested foods. It is still unknown today why some diverticula became inflamed while others do not. There are some theories surrounding this issue that states the inflammation occurs only when the erosion of the colon wall is so bad that the body s immune system is unable to protect such a large, disrupted area. In some cases, the inflammation gets so bad and infection co exists. This combination can result in the enlargement of the infection, allowing it to extend into the abdomen and become peritonitis when it infects the lining of the abdomen (Unknown, 2010). Diverticulitis is often classified as either uncomplicated and mild or complicated and chronic. Regardless of the classification of the disease, pain is the main symptom. Since diverticulitis occurs most often in the Sigmoid colon, the pain associated with diverticulitis occurs most often in the lower, left quadrant of

However, for the sake of writing, I will assume I will be a squad leader. Throughout this course, we have discussed multiple parts of leadershipthat are central to being an effective leader. While each part we have studied is different, they all have the same idea: being an effective leader for your people. I will best be prepared to succeed by putting to practice these different parts and focusing on their development for the future. Specifically, those leadership traits I would aim to develop are the ability to reflect better and servant leadership. An important part of leadership, as we deemed, is one s ability to reflect: to learn from previous or current situations, and to put to practice what you have learned. Reflection does not have to be a long, drawn out process that requires hours of your time or journaling. Though these things can be a part of reflection, reflecting only has to take a moment. The increased diversification of the undergraduate student population in the United States higher education system has been well documented (Barefoot, 2002; Hutchinson, 2010; Pascarella Terenzini, 1998), and has resulted in greater access for marginalized populations (Kuh, 2008). Specifically, the number of undergraduate student parents has risen from around 3.2 million in 1995, to 4.8 million in 2012 amounting to 26% of the total collegepopulation (Institute for Women s Policy Research, 2016). Despite this burgeoning group, student parent success as measured by retention rates are alarmingly low; only one third attain a degree or certificate within six years of enrollment (Gault, Reichlin, Reynolds, Froehner, 2014; Miller, Gault,... As such, one of the key tenants of UMTC s mission is to provide access to resources to help individuals and organizations respond to their changing environments (UMN, 2008). Applied in a student parent context, one can distinguish this mission through the Student Parent Help Center (SPHC) and the resources it provides undergraduates with children. Established in 1967 as an academic support program for low income students, HELP (Higher Education for Low Income People) was initially charged with providing services for traditionally underserved populations (UMN, n.d.). However, with various programs forming across the university in the late 1980 s to address underrepresented students (TRIO, among others), HELP began to focus exclusively on the specific needs of student parents. Today, the Student Parent HELP Center (now within the greater Office of Student Affairs) works to eliminate the challenges student parents face while completing their first Bachelor s degrees. A secondary mission is to encourage participation in higher education among teen parents in the greater metro area (UMN, n.d.). Accordingly, this mission could not be more relevant: from 2004 2012, the student parent population increased by 61% in the plains region of the United States (where UMTC
  • 51. Rudolf Virchow s Impact On Modern Biological Sciences Rudolf Virchow could be considered one of the greatest biologists of 19th century, and perhaps even of all history. His abundance of work is also mostly accurate, sparing a couple minor and major misconceptions. He has even received an award for his efforts. This pathologist has greatly impacted modern biological sciences. Before one learns his achievements, it is imperative to know his early years. On October 13, 1821, Rudolf Virchow was born in rural Pomerania, an area in Prussia. He lived as an only child (Kearl, 2015). As a child, he had a fascination of the natural world. Virchow earned a great education because of his gift of intelligence ( Virchow, Rudolf Carl, 2015). Originally, Virchow sought to be a pastor. He abandoned this thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of his biggest discoveries is the formation of cells. In 1855, Virchow stated that cells are made from other cells, which is still proven to be true today. He is not considered the first person to state this, but once he suggested this many other scientists took this thought seriously. Prior to this, it was understood that imbalances in the body produced a substance called blastema, which caused cells to be made. He is attributed to performing the first organized autopsy, which is now a common medical practice. The discovery of Leukemia is also accredited to him. In 1847, Rudolf and a fellow physician, Benno Reinhardt, published their own scientific journal. In said journal, the two asserted that medical practices should be based on only well proven science. The duo rejected several contemporary medical practices that had been around for ages, such as Galen s use of humors which was later proven to be incorrect (Doc, 2015). He later began to publish textbooks such as Cellular Pathology (Titford, 2015). Virchow also was an advocate of the improvement of public health for all social classes. In the medical science field, Virchow made an abundance of other discoveries. He published more than 2,000 scientific books and papers throughout his life, mainly in microscopic pathology. And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of different characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events and the inner mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in which characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate from earlier epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this genre was a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for his other novels, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers Karamazov, this text offers a take on characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866. Two topics are woven within the zealously intricated storyline. The one is desperate longing for a distant woman and the another one is a passion for gambling that Dostoyevsky himself at the time was struggling with.
