𝕴𝖓𝖙𝖗𝖔𝖉𝖚𝖈𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓:
 Theophrastus was a Greek philosopher and student
of Aristotle
 He was born in 370 BC in Eresos.
 Most important of his books are two large botanical
treatises, Enquiry into Plants and On the Causes of
Plants
 Also known as Father Of Botany due to his extensive
writings and contribution on plants study.
𝕭𝖔𝖙𝖆𝖓𝖞:
 It is the branch of Science that deals with the
research of plants and plant like organisms. This
explain importance of vegetation for existence
of the world. Plants are the progenitors and
enhancers of most energy and food chain. They
can act as main source of various Components
Such oxygen Food and medicine.
𝕮𝖔𝖓𝖙𝖗𝖎𝖇𝖚𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓:
 The greats of the Theophrastus and Aristotle Were both working diligently
to discover and Characterize Plants in the 4th Century BCE.
 His noteable ideas Prosleptic, hypothetical syllogisms ,Modus
ponens and modus tollens.
 He serves in field of Ethics, grammar, history, logic, metaphysics, natural
history, physics and botany.
 His major contribution to Botany is the classification of Plants.
𝕮𝖑𝖆𝖘𝖘𝖎𝖋𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓 𝖔𝖋 𝕻𝖑𝖆𝖓𝖙𝖘 𝖇𝖞 𝕿𝖍𝖊𝖔𝖕𝖍𝖗𝖆𝖘𝖙𝖚𝖘:
 Theophrastus Classified Plants into four Categories on the basis of
their growth habits, Stem Structure and leaves.
• Herbs • Shrubs • Subshrubs • Tress
 He divided Plants into two groups trees and herbs. Within these he further
Classified Plants their Stem Structure and leaves, Such as woody herbaceous
Stems and Simple compound and Lobed leaves. He also distinguish between
monocotyledons and dicotyledons based on Seed leaves in the embryo .
 Theophrastus Classification System was one of the earliest organize and
understand the vast diversity of Plant life on Earth.
𝕮𝖑𝖆𝖘𝖘𝖎𝖋𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓 :
 Plant taxonomy is the discipline of the discovery, identification,
Characterization Classification and naming plants. This is of One of
the most important aspects of taxonomy.
 The taxonomy of Plants Can be Classified hierarchically Fellows.
They are:
 Kingdom Phylum Class  order Family Genus  Species
 Botany is the field at biology that deals with detailed view of
function and Structure of Plants, Characteristics, existence,
adaptation, evolution.
 It deals with the Plant anatomy ,cell biology, ecology, Bryology, Plant
biotechnology Plant genetics and many more.
𝕾𝖀𝖇-𝕮𝕷𝖆𝖘𝖘𝖎𝖋𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓:
 Herbs: They are the plants whose Stems are Soft green and perishable. They have a
very short life Span of one season. Herbs are Plants which not contain woody stem.
Example: Rice ,Tomato and Sunflower etc.
 Shrub: A woody Plant that has Several stems and is Smaller than most trees. It is
small or medium-sized perennial Plant.
Example: Highbush blueberry, Red raspberry etc.
 Subshrub: A is Subshrub or dwarf shrub is a Short Shrub woody Plant. It is often
used interchangeably with "bush". They with have woody Stems except for the
terminal Part of growth which is Killed back annually.
Example: Hardy Fuchsias etc
 Tree: A tree is Perennial Plant elongated Stem a with an or trunk Usually supporting
branches and leaves.
Example: Ever green Tree and maples etc.
𝕺𝖇𝖏𝖊𝖈𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓𝖘:
 Classification was not based on Clear and Consistent system of
Characteristics. Instead his Classification Was based on variety of
Features including the Plant’s Form, size and habitat. This a System
led to that was difficult to use and not very informative.
 Theophrastus's Classification was based a limited number of Plants
that he had Personally observed.
 Despite these objections on Theophrastus’s classification was
influential and helped in laying down the Foundation of the botany.
