Impact Of King Kalakaua On The Hawaiian Renaissance
A changing Nation
The Hawaiian renaissance was a time period in Hawaii s history that influenced many people
during that time. King Kalakaua created conflict between the Hawaiians and Americans. The
United States of America failed to recognize Hawaii s opposition to annexation and created
compromises that made a big impact on how Hawaii flourished culturally, politically, and
economically.
Hawaiian Monarchy was slowly dying due to their powers being taken away. Hawaiian Culture
was beginning to get lost from society because more and more people were being drawn to
foreign beliefs and ways of life as the haole population continued to grow, this is initially when The
First Hawaiian Renaissance had begun. Compromises, many made by King Kalakaua, ... Show

The Hawaiian Renaissance also gave natives an opportunity to fight for what they knew was right
about preserving the Hawaiian culture forever. This provided an avenue for people who did not
know Hawaiian culture to witness, and at the same time, understand what it took to preserve the
culture. Lastly, the Hawaiian renaissance had further pushed the United states to find ways to take
away what rightfully belonged to the Hawaiians, including culture, in means of agreements that
were not written on just formal documents but done without consent. Regardless, it had also
drawn Hawaii as nation under the United States. The conflicts and compromises made during
this Hawaiian Renaissance completely changed what people now know as Hawaii, and it is
truly an important aspect of what it came to be today and how the culture of Hawaiians was
preserved. People all over the world, especially those who know nothing about Hawaii or even
America, should all learn about this major time in Hawaii s history where people fought against
the eradication of their culture, as their way of life. The Hawaiian renaissance is too vague to be
compared to a personal problem in life, but it shows how with a conflict and many compromises,
many things can

Literary Point Of Forshadowing In Monkey s Paw
The author of The Monkey s Paw, W.W. Jacobs uses many literary techniques to create suspense.
The story is about an old man named Mr. White who gets a monkey s paw with magical powers,
he wishes for 200 pounds. He also loses his son during the process. To create suspense and convey
the point of the story Jacobs uses literary techniques such as, mood, imagery, and foreshadowing.
One of the first techniques he uses is foreshadowing. Before Sergeant Major Morris gives Mr.
White the paw, he describes the fakir who cursed the paw, he said, He wanted to show that fate
ruled people s lives and those who interfered with it so did their sorrow (paragraph 26). This
evidence reveals that the paw is cursed by a fakir who wants to teach people a lesson about
interfering with fate when they wish for things that aren t destined to happen. Because of this the
reader can conclude that the wishes will not have the desired outcome. In addition, when the
whites inquire more about the paw, Morris throws it into the fire and warns them of the
consequences after Mr. White quickly retrieves it (paragraph 31 and 44). The reader can infer
from this that Morris doesn t want Mr. White to have the paw. However, Mr. White reaches his
hand in the fire and risks burning himself to retrieve the paw. You can also tell from this that
Morris had such a bad experience with the paw that he wants to destroy it. After that, Mr. White
asks Morris about the first person to have the paw, Morris s response was

Animal Farm Journal Entry Analysis
Roughly a century after Napoleon s rule of Animal Farm, a young pig stumbled upon a dusty
leather bound diary hidden away in the straw strewn loft of the ramshackle barn. The same barn
which held those legendary meetings from long before. With a tentative trotter, the youngster filed
through the delicate pages, unconvering a story which to that point had remained untold. The story
of a raven from the days of old and his quest to lead his animal brethren to the religious truth
unfolded before the pigs eyes the story of Moses. The following are the most significant entries
from his account of life on Animal farm.
Entry 1: Jones came home today grumbling about the animals and his farmhands again. At least he
took the time to throw me some scraps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ve overheard some animals suggesting that I do not help with laboring on the farm. This angers
me greatly, as I am participating in the only work that truly matters. Not everyone thinks I m a
crazy bird though, some sheep and chickens have come to the light, and we are meeting regularly
to discuss our beliefs and theology. I am ahppy to see that my journey back to Animal Farm was
not frivolous.
Entry 5: This is a dark day. The pigs have gone too far. I was greatly pained when some of my
most loyal followers came to me in anguish as they knew they were going to be executed by
Napoleon and his dogs. All I could do was offer spiritual guidance to ensure that they found their
way to Sugarcandy Mountain. It has become clear to me that my true mission on this farm is to
minister to these evil, demonic pigs. If they can be converted, this whole farm can still be saved!
Entry 6: It has been quite some time since I ve written here. It feels as though it s been decades
actually. Time passed, and with it, many of my followers and friends. To this point, my ministry
to the pigs has proven fruitless. Not one animal actually seems to hear my truth anymore, I have
been permanently labelled a crazy old bird. Well, at least I will end up on that mountain some day.
I will never forget those lives I saved, and what I saw in those

Essay about Describing Dunkirk
Describing Dunkirk On the 20th May 1940the allied troops were trapped by the Germans on the
Northern coast of France. The allies consisted of the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F), the
Belgian Army and the ten best divisions of the French Army. It was on this day that Churchill
gave the command for the evacuation to take place, to Britain by ship, following advice from Lord
Gort (leader of the B.E.F). Rommel was advancing from the north and Degaudier from the south
trapping the troops. The evacuation was organised by Admiral Ramsey and codenamed Operation
Dynamo with the main objective to rescue as much of the B.E.F as possible. This evacuation began
on May 27th from the beaches of Dunkirk.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important factor in arguing Dunkirk as a defeat is that 68,111 men from the B.E.F were
killed, wounded or taken prisoner during the evacuation. The cost of replacing the B.E.F s
equipment would be astronomical for the government and for their part in the evacuation the
Navy suffered 243 ships sunken (including 6 important British destroyers with 19 left damaged)
and the RAF lost 474 aircraft. Source 3 supports the view of Dunkirk as a British military defeat.
It is a photographic source showing Dunkirk after the evacuation displaying a deserted beach
littered with equipment, corpses and debris. Off the shore are broken half sunken ships with
those that have become beached, one possibly a military boat and also many smaller vessels.
The photograph of the dead soldiers shows military defeat as the objective was to rescue the
B.E.F and would be very demoralising for the British public. The large boat could belong to the
navy and would be very valuable, loss of this would be very expensive, along with the rest of the
abandoned equipment. The source seems reliable as it is first hand primary evidence. It is useful
for showing defeat as it displays what it looked like at Dunkirk after the evacuation. Its also backs
up my own knowledge as the B.E.F lost 68,111 men and you would expect bodies on the beaches

Who Is An Outsider In Othello
Throughout William Shakespeare s career as a playwright, many of his plays contend with the
issue of an outsider, whether as the focal source of tension that compels the plot forward or as a
minor subplot that is craftily interwoven into the framework of the entire play. This is a concept
that is reflected in Shakespeare s Othelloand The Merchant of Venice. However, the word outsider
must first be considered in relation to each of Shakespeare s plays. For the purpose of this paper,
an outsider is an individual that is not wholly accepted within a particular group; in the case of
Othello and The Merchant of Venice, this particular group is the Venetian elite, who are
predominately Caucasian and adhere to Christian beliefs. Consequently, this... Show more content

As many of the Venetians [are] Christian (MV 1.3.39), Shylock is subjected to religious
discrimination because he [is] a Jew (3.1.54). This is significant because Shylock is forced to face
a number of abuses at the Venetian elite. For this reason alone, Shylock is spit on (1.3.123) and
called [a] dog (3.1.125) just because of the religious beliefs he adheres to conflicts with the beliefs
of the Venetian elite. Where Shylock is constantly laughed at (3.1.51) and mocked at (3.1.51) by
Antonio, a member of the accepted Venetian elite, for being a religious outsider, this indicates that
the Venetians view Shylock and, by extension, the entire Jewish religion as an embodiment of the
devil. As the Venetian elite believe Shylock is an evil soul producing holy witness / Is like a villain
with a smiling cheek (1.3.97 98) that disrupts the accepted religion in Venice, this demonstrates that
a religion difference is justifiable reason to discriminate Shylock. The extreme instances of unfair
treatment that Shylock withstands from the Venetians because of his religious beliefs denotes him
like Othello as an outsider in Venice. The dualities of acceptance extends only to those individuals
who do not threaten the scarcity of that which the Venetian elite hold most dear to them: purity and
Christianity. As Othello and Shylock both threaten these aspects, the illusion of acceptance
bestowed upon them by the Venetian elite shatters and leads to the harsh discrimination and
denotation as outsiders in Venice. Incidentally, where the Venetian elite believe that Othello and
Shylock are outsiders for their racial and religious identities, Othello and Shylock sustain this belief
by depicting themselves as the stereotypes that are associated with them,

The Scientific Techniques Used For Experimentation...
The scientific techniques used for experimentation throughout the ages can spark controversy. In
the The Island of Dr. Moreau, vivisection becomes the island s culture. There are many aspects of
vivisection that continuously overstep the rights of animals and the morals of humans. Dr. Moreau
s lack of sympathy for inflicting pain as well as the undeveloped jungle in which they experiment
in also raises questions in how ethical this practice is. From a moral standpoint vivisection could be
seen as wrong because of: the sanitary conditions of the island and the assumed lack of anesthesia
used on animals during vivisection. The ethics of vivisection and other scientific techniques
become increasingly controversial and continue to go over the boundaries of human capability and
morals. Harmful scientific techniques against animals are underrated because the scientific
community and public do not establish the status of animals and their rights to proper treatment.
The culture of vivisection became more about creating fears than the reality of the situation. The
question of monsters or miracle became anew in this novel as Pendrick s initial fear of the beast
men changed to a peculiar interest later on in the text. (Framing the Future, 194) (Island of Dr.
Moreau). Pendrick s first awakening after the shipwreck came with thoughts and theories of torture
that awaited him. Seeing the beast men only added to his curiosity and fright. His response towards

Family Guy Racism
The corpus to be analyzed consists of the most controversial episodes of an internationally popular
and long running adult animation show called Family Guy. This show represents cultural attitudes
and embodies how the youth of today see themselves and others, as well as influencing viewers.
Some messages in this popular show, and others like it, underscore prejudices and racist attitudes in
our society, showcasing the discrimination that minorities and some ethnicities face. Furthermore,
these shows actually serve to strengthen existing prejudices, increasing these attitudes in viewers.
The target audience of Family Guyis primarily youth in their teens and young adults (it also slants
mostly male). This age group is of course more impressionable than others, being in their formative
years; the messages in the television that they watch, then, have a particularly strong effect on their
perceptions of raceand ethnicity. In the Family Guy episode PTV , Osama bin Ladenis depicted
humorously recording a threat to America, using a rubber chicken and other slapstick humor; he
goes on to make a joke that someone used a doctor s note to get out of a suicide bombing. This
joke is highly offensive, propagating a bigoted point of view of Arab, Middle Eastern, and South
Asian (hereinafter AMESA ) worlds, which are often perceived as being barbaric, untrustworthy,
anti democratic, violent, and filled with religious militants (Hughey and Muradi 2009). Shows like

The Reaction To The Emancipation Proclamation
Reaction to the Proclamation
The Proclamation had little impact on slavery. The Proclamation only applied to places where it
was under Confederate Control. The Proclamation was condemned in the South and debated in the
North. Abolitionists criticized Lincoln for not going far enough. The Proclamation did nothing to
free people who were enslaved in the border states. So, slaves in the Confederate states that were
controlled by the Union s force were not affected. Northerners feared that all freed people coming
to the North would cause a lot of unemployment. The Northern Africans response was way more
positive. Abolitionist Frederick Douglas said:
We shout for joy that we live to record this righteous decree.
There was no immediate end to slavery.
African Americans Join the War and African Soldiers
The Emancipation Proclamation had two different immediate effects. The Proclamation inspired
Southern slaves to free themselves by escaping to the protection of Union troops. This encouraged
Africans to join the war. When the Civil War began, Africans volunteers were not allowed to join
the Union army until July of 1862. In July of 1872, Congress authorized Lincoln to accept the
announcement in the Emancipation Proclamation that Africans could now join the Union Army. In
1865 over 180,000 African Americans had been enlisted in the Union Army. More than half of the
soldiers were from the South. The Africans from the South that became soldiers fought for others

The Idea Of The Absurd

Definition of Absurdism abВ·surdВ·ism /Й™bЛ€sЙ™rdЛ
ЊizЙ™m, Л€zЙ™rd / noun 1. The
belief that human beings exist in a purposeless, chaotic universe.
The idea of the absurd is seen in many existentialist works, particularly in the works of Albert
Camus. Absurdity is the notion of contrast between two things. As Camus defines it in The Myth of
Sisyphus:
The absurd is born out of this confrontation between the human need and the unreasonable silence
of the world
This view, which is shared by fellow French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre, is that humanity must
live in a world that is and will forever be hostile or indifferent towards them. The universe will
never truly care for humanity the way we seem to want it to. The atheist view of this statement is
that people create stories, or gods, which in their minds transcend reality to fill this void and attempt
to satisfy their need.
Now Let s Begin...
... In many works of art there are many emphasizes of the absurdity of an individual s existence
while there are, at the same time, many things encouraging that idea that life s meaning is from
what the individual makes of it. Through this, a person may feel a stronger sense of

Analysis Of Paul Bigelow s The Algiers Motel Incident
If you have a good sized used bookstore in your town, you might find a paperback copy of John
Hersey s 1968 best seller The Algiers Motel Incident, a report on the events at the center of
Kathryn Bigelow s new film. So when the ads claim that Detroit is telling an untold story, what
they really mean is Tis new to thee. And yet I suspect that it will not seem new, nor old, to most
audiences only all too familiar. Bigelow s film is the nearest thing I can think of to an American
counterpart of Paul Greengrass s docudrama Bloody Sunday. In its first act (of three), Bigelow
approximates Greengrass s pseudo verite style, immersing us in the buildup to the 1967 Detroit
riots with jumpy immediacy, with great help from her Zero Dark Thirty editor, William
Goldenberg. Over time, we are introduced to the characters who will converge on the Algiers
Motel, including the members of the Dramatics, an aspiring soul act whose gig at the Fox Theater
is abruptly cancelled by the riots; a reckless cop (Will Poulter) who s allowed back on the streets
after shooting a looter in the back despite orders not to fire at looters; and a securityguard(John
Boyega) whose uniform gives him some immunity from suspicion on the part of white police and
National Guard troops.

The Effects of Concussions on Human Beings
The Effects of Concussions on Human Beings.
Did you know, that someone suffers from a brain injury every 21 seconds (Haas)? Children get
concussions all the time, and most of the time they go unnoticed. The majority of concussions
happen when one is playing a sport such as football, hockey, or lacrosse. Many famous athletes
have had their careers, even their lives cut short due to concussions. Brain damage and death can
result from serial concussions (Schafer). When one suffers from a concussion, one s brain needs
time to recover physically and mentally. Between 2002 and 2006, statistics showed that 52,000
people died from concussions and about 275,000 were hospitalized (Fundukian). Everyone s
recovery process is different ( Injury and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two main long term effects of a concussion: post concussion syndrome and second
impact syndrome. Second impact syndrome is when one receives a blow to the head before the
brain is completely healed. This results in swelling of the brain, and that can result in a fatal
death. The main reason that people suffer from this is they do not get the proper amount of rest
that they need before they go back and play whatever sport they were playing. Since 1984, more
than twenty people have died from second impact syndrome (Caroline M, et al.). Anyone who
receives a second concussion that is moderate to severe after they have had a first one should sit
out from their sport for at least a month to avoid second impact syndrome. Second impact
syndrome seems to be rare with patients, but the chance of getting second impact syndrome is
higher in people who play football, soccer, baseball, or basketball, and ski or who box. Another
more common long term effect of a concussion is post concussion syndrome. Post concussion
syndrome is a side effect of a concussion, and it may last for weeks or even months. Athletes who
suffer from this side effect must not return to sports while experiencing the symptoms. If one
constantly gets concussions while playing this sport, they should consider not playing that sport for
a while. Symptoms of postconcussive syndrome include memory and concentration problems,

Walkerton Water System Case Study
The Walkerton water system was supplied by three groundwater wells: wells 5, 6, and 7.
Contamination into the drinking water supply was through Well 5. Well 5 was a shallow well,
and all of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn
from an area of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the
surrounding bedrock, made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock
(O Connor, 2002, pp.166).
The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two
standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated
that in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. There is a greater risk
of bacterial contamination in dead ends, because water does not adequately circulate in them and
may become stagnant (O Connor, 2002, pp.57). The water system had a reserve capacity of 20
hours. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One important purpose of the chlorine residual is to retain a capacity for disinfection in treated water
as it moves throughout the distribution system. Another is to provide a way to determine whether
contamination is overwhelming the disinfectant capacity of the chlorine that has been added to the
water (O Connor, 2002, pp.14).
Well 5 was supplied by a groundwater source that was under the direct influence of surface water.
For such sources, the Ontario Drinking Water Objectives, required the continuous monitoring of
chlorine residuals and turbidity (The requirement for turbidity monitoring was to take four samples

The Collegiate Athletic Association Of College Athletics
The NCAA continues to prohibit payment to its student athletes, while its member universities
continue to seek new ways to increase revenue from the athlete s accomplishments. The National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is the nonprofit governing body of college athletics.
The primary task of the NCAA is to oversee the actions of all student athletes and universities to
verify that both parties abide by the rules and regulations within the principles of amateurism,
defined by the Association. However, the NCAA has been ruthlessly exploiting the athlete s
talents in the hopes of maximizing profits. The NCAA and its member universities carry little
concern regarding the success of student athletes, currently; their priorities have become profit
oriented. In the rapidly growing industry of College Athletics, a one sided business relationship
has evolved between colleges and student athletes. Former University of Connecticut basketball
standout Shabazz Napier has recalled his experience as a collegiate athlete in a statement: there
have been hungry nights where I m not able to eat, and yet I m still forced to play to the best of
my abilities. After I noticed my jersey being sold I felt like I should get something in return. [1]

The execution of the Apartheid framework in 1948 influenced the socio; monetary, mental and

GLOBULINS There are various plasma globulins which have been identified in the blood plasma
1)О‘1 globulin: also known as transcortin. It binds to a number of steroidal drugs such as cortisone
and prednisone so also known a corticosteroid binding globulin
2)A2 globulin: also known as ceruloplasmin. It generally binds to vitamins A, D, E and K and also
to cupric ions.
3)О’1 globulin: also known as transferrin and it binds to ferrous ions.
4)B2 globulin: it binds to carotinoids.
5)Y globulin: It generally binds to antigens.
METHODS FOR MEASUREMENT OF PPB
Many successful methods to measure the degree of plasma protein binding of drugs have been
derived. All these method work by physically separating the unbound drug from the bound drug and
calculating the relative fractions.
Some beneficial techniques to measure plasma protein binding are:
a)Equilibrium dialysis
b)Ultrafiltration
c)Ultracentrifugation
d)Microdialysis
e)Gel filtration
f)Circular dichroism
g)Microspheres of albumin
There are some other techniques also which are utilized to a lesser extent such as micro extraction
and optical biosensors such that they could be used for highly protein bound drugs. None of the
methods could be judged as superior over others as all these methods possess some advantages as
well as disadvantages.

Eve Above Adam Gender Roles
Eve Above Adam:
Deconstruction of Gender Roles in the Context of Detective/Crime Novels
At first glance Ted Dekker s Adam appears to be the typical crime novel. There is a detective
(male) obsessed with solving a mysterious string of murders, ruined marriage, a subordinate female
coworker, and of course all of the victims being female. It is not long before the reader realizes
something is different about this text. The first clue is that the killer is labeled Eve, a traditionally
female name associated with the mother of humanity. The second clue is that the supposed strong
male protagonist is exhibiting reactions to stressful situations that are traditionally considered
effeminate. In addition to this, the male serial killer isn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As is to be expected from a crime novel, the criminal s victims are all initially female. These are
however, not even secondary characters, and is when we look at the more prominent female
characters that tradition is thrown to the wayside. Heather Clark, Daniel s ex wife, is first
introduced as being a woman who was powerless to stop her husband s obsession with a serial
killer. She is even depicted as being so dependent that she becomes obsessed with her husband.
This leads to a subsequent obsession with Eve and Heather s own amateur detective work.
Ironically it is Heather that serial killer communicates with, not Daniel. In fact, the serial killer
communicates through her to Daniel. Heather is the one that receives the warning that if Daniel
tries to stop Eve, he will die (Dekker, 23 24). The reiteration the notion that the male characters
need to go through female characters for the information to gain importance, means that without
the female characters the story could not continue. Later in the novel Daniel is captured by the
serial killer and his wife Heather goes to save him. However, she soon discovers that that Daniel
is possessed by Eve and calls a priest, Father Seymour, to try and save him (Dekker, 315 326).
Heather, not Daniel the supposed detective character, is the one who thinks to call the priest. She
realizes his importance in stopping Eve and Alex, Daniel however is still adamantly against the
very idea of supernatural involvement. With the help of Lori Ames and the Priest, Daniel is
eventually rescued and becomes dependent on Heather as a support system following the

the very few known facts about Raynaud s disease, it is not a disease that should be overlooked
for the fact it affects approximately five to ten percent of Americans. (WebMD, 2005 2016).

The most common reason why Raynaud s phenomenon occurs is because of exposure to the
cold. In the cold, it is normal for the body to narrow the small blood vessels to the skin and to
open the blood vessels to the inside part of the body to keep the body warm. But with Raynaud s,
the body restricts blood flow to the skin more than it needs to. (WebMD, 2005 2016). Other
reasons consist of taking certain medications, using vibrating power tools for a number of years,
excessive smoking, having emotional stress, caffeine, trauma, circulatory problems, drug use,
exposure to some chemicals or toxic substances, or having frostbite could be factors that could
contribute to getting Raynaud s disease. There are many triggers, but the basic cause of Raynaud
s disease is still not known. There has been a link established between Raynaud s and some
autoimmune diseases. Raynaud s may also signal damage to the blood vessels caused by
occupational injuries. (Raynaud s Association, 2016). An example of an occupational injury that
has been previously discussed is using vibrating power tools over the course of several years.

such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
From the article How Much Does Facebook Advertise Cost? by Marc Prosser published on July 13,
2013 it states that,
With Facebook, you get to choose what you want to pay for advertising. You will never pay
more than the maximum amount that you bid to have your ad appear or be clicked on. However,
the bidding process is competitive. If you bid too low, your ad will never be seen.
On average, companies spend about $24.00 daily per site to advertising through Facebook,

similar actions and attitudes to those expressed by Derek and Danny. The movie is not a far cry
from what is currently taking place in our society today.
Overview of the Movie
American History X tells a tragic story that focuses on two brothers, Derek and Danny Vinyard.
The movie begins with a startling flashback scene in which Danny interrupts his older brother
Derek and his girlfriend having sex to tell him that there is a black man outside trying to break
into Derek s car. Next we see Derek run outside and shoot and kill two African Americans and
attempt to kill another driving away. Derek is in his early twenties and Danny is 16 years old.
Danny witnesses the entire transaction.
In the next scene, it is the day Derek is released from prison, and Danny is in the principal s
office because he wrote a paper on Mien Kampf arguing for Hitler as an outstanding civil rights
activist. He is instructed by the principal, who is African American, to write another paper on his
older brother Derek. As the movie progresses, the viewer learns more about the lives of Danny
and Derek. Their father was a fireman who was killed by a black man while trying to put out a
fire in a black community. Derek and Danny live in an area of California that is run by violent
gangs. After his father is killed, Derek joins D.O.C., which is a Neo Nazi, white supremacist group.

of the backed up orders. When there is a supplier constraint then it has a long lead time,
unreliable, and/or substandard quality. This is what is happening at the manufacturing plant
because of how overdue the products are by the time they are finished. Since they have so many
backed up orders it causes for the potential of making money to decrease and the likelihood of
those customers to come back to the plant for more services to decrease. When Alex is on the hike

The Real Estate Market Of 2008 Is Notorious For Sparking...
The real estate market in 2008 is notorious for sparking one of the largest housing bubbles in
history. In order to understand the housing market during the bubble you need to recognize the
events that caused it. This was simply an economical failure from the hands of some of the most
well known financial institutions and the Government. Going back to 1997 to 2006, if you take a
look at the Case Shiller Home Price Index (the leading indicator for the US housing market
residential prices), you will discover a rise in nominal home prices of 188%. Although there is not
a lot of consensus that uncovers what sparked the housing bubble, countless people have spoken
their opinion in regards to this: misguided monetary policy; government policies pushing home
ownership, consumer speculation of rising home prices, and lower housing supply. These examples
can t fully explain the crash, but they can provide insight as to what may have happened or at least
contributed to it. This article goes into depth on some of the explanations to the housing bubble and
how the burst of it eventually led to the credit crisis which sparked the entire recession in 2008.
Starting back in 1997 when the residential prices began to appreciate into 2003, the rising home
prices can be examined through economic fundamentals. These fundamentals explain the price of
buying a home in relation to rentals and interest rates meaning that the housing market was not
overvalued. Post 2003 2004, the

Hammett Greed
I believe Hammett is sending a moral message or reminder about the relentless pursuit of wealth.
When Spade discovers that the woman he loves had gunned down his partner, he must put his
allegiance to his moral code above his romantic impulses. Your comrades and your moral code are
more important than your physical gratification. It is a lesson that I believe many of us have
forgottenA very prominent theme within the novel is greed. It is the motivation behind every
action in the story. The three villains, Brigid, Gutman and Cairo consistently seek the riches to be
gained from the falcon. In the process, Brigid murders Spade s partner, while the other two go on
a wild goose chase and end up empty handed. As a result of their hunger for money, Gutman is...

I believe the author put forth this theme effectively. Hammett depicts the evil of greed by
displaying betrayal, violence and misery that it breedsThe tone of the novel is dark and cynical.
Since Hammett was a real life detective, he had first hand experience on how detectives act and
talk. The Maltese Falcon s full of slang words, and has a sharp rhythm and biting tone in the
dialogue. The author s extensive familiarity with detective work allows him to effectively create
an overall dark and cynical tone. This can be seen in the passage where Hammett is describing
different noises: a telephone ringing in the darkness, bedsprings creaking, fingers fumbling
against the wood, something thudding on the carpet, and finally a man s voice. This detailed
description of a series of sounds creates a feeling of uneasiness and evokes a foreboding feeling that
something bad is about to happen.Sam Spade is a tall, blond, pleasantly satanic looking, hard
boiled detective. He is suspected of killing Thursby along with Miles Archer in order to marry Iva.

Analysis Of The Book Hello Latasha
Hello Latasha, I hope everything is well with your son and I understand your lack of posting
because I believe family comes first no matter what. I am happy to see that the brownie is back
in the story and you have done a great job switching between first and third person. I am still in
love with the first sentence because it really draws you into the story and makes the reader
understand exactly how the mood is feeling. It also shows the reader a glimpse into the setting
and what kind of conditions this place had. There were a couple of mechanical things I would
like to point out to you that I feel can be fixed easily with a good reread. The first thing I noticed
was the story switches between past and present tense; something I tend to do all the time and
can easily be read over, but can be confusing for some readers. The second thing I noticed was a
bunch of run on sentences that created paragraphs; what I mean is that it may look like a
paragraph, but it s actually two very long sentences that can be cut down into shorter sentences.
The last mechanical thing I noticed was some punctuation and grammar errors that can be
spotted with a grammar website like Paperrater or Grammerly. I am #1 when it comes to
screwing up grammar and punctuation so I use both of them to check my piece and even then I
still miss stuff. Usually at that point I hand it off to my sister. Have a family member, friend,
coworker or even stranger read your piece you will get and idea of where

Rhetoric 101
The Longest Yard
(Stereotypes and all)
What our society has become truly amazes me every day. The things we watch and enjoy as a
culture are sometimes highly offense. I choose to look at the movie The Longest Yard for an in
depth look at stereotypes in our society. After watching and studying this movie I can only ask
myself one question: What have we become? The Longest Yard is a movie about a former NFL
MVP quarterback (played by Adam Sandler) jailed for joyriding his girlfriend s car. Crewe
(Sandler) is forced by the jail s warden to create a football team to play the very guards that lord
over them. Yes, The Longest Yard movie was very funny and entertaining to many audiences, but it
featured many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet the movie depicts the guard s team as thus. They are all of Caucasian descent and act like the
stereotypical white male athlete. They curse, take steroids, and readily look for reasons to attack
the inmates. There is, yet again, another hidden stereotype. Do all Caucasian athletes act that way?
Not at all, for everyone is different and nobody is the same person. The guards in The Longest
Yard are also aggressively racist. They look to attack the black males of the prisonat all times and
act in any way to evoke a response from them. Yet this movie still can make anyone laugh. The
overly aggressive nature of the guards is so unrealistic that many audiences found it hysterical.
Maybe this is why the inmates of the movie were even funnier to watch.
The inmates in the prison are very comical to watch and study. They are portrayed heavily as
uneducated idiots. One side character in the movie sees a sign for football try outs and says, What
are football tree outs? this brings a great laughter from the audience as it is a funny portrayal of
prison stupidity. This truth is that no prison s inmates are that uneducated for they have libraries
and education materials in almost all prisons. The inmates, not unlikely the guards, show very
aggressive and vengeful attitudes and play with much anger during the game. You can see this in
Crewe s intro in the prison. He is stared at intensively by everyone in the prison and treated harshly.
The most comical type of

The Effects Of Aerobic Exercise On Pregnancy
Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Pregnancy Aerobic exercise is another fantastic type of physical
activity for pregnant women. It is a great alternative for mothers who are apprehensive about
resistance training. Aerobic exercise guidelines for mostly sedentary pregnant women state that
they should perform at about 60% 70% of their heart rate maximum, and guidelines for active
pregnant women suggest they perform at about 60% 90% of their heart rate maximum (11). The
United States guidelines supports exercise throughout the full nine months of pregnancyas a positive
decision for expecting mothers (2).
Just a handful of gains made while aerobically exercising during pregnancy include maintaining
weight, less complications with delivery, a shorter labor, a decrease in stress, less back pain, a
decrease in arterial stiffness, improved posture, increased self confidence, improved insulin
sensitivity and glycogen storing, better sleep, a decreased risk of preeclampsia, decreased pelvic
girdle pain, and an increased quality of life (6, 9, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 23). It is also important
to acknowledge that mothers who exercised 3 months before they became pregnant experienced
even more advantages with a significant decrease in pregnancy discomforts (9). In two separate
studies made up of 43 and 37 pregnant women, mothers participated in a moderate aerobic exercise
program. In the first study mothers were trained with general exercise machines, and in the second
mothers performed

Two Theories of Literacy Development
In this task I am going to identify 2 different theories of language development I am going to be
doing, Naom Chomsky and Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget According to Piaget, language development is
related to cognitive development, that is, the development of the child s thinking determines
when the child can learn to speak and what the child can say. For example, before a child can say,
This teddy is smaller than that one , she/he must have developed the ability to judge differences in
size. In Piaget s view, children learn to talk naturally when they are ready without any deliberate
teaching by adults he thinks children pick up language by repeated behavior. From doing his
research into children s language and how they think,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Concrete Operations Stage, this stage was believed to have affected children aged between
seven and eleven to twelve years old. During this stage, the thought process becomes more
rational, mature and adult like , or more operational , although this process most often continues
well into the teenage years. Piaget claims that before the beginning of this stage, children s ideas
about different objects, are formed and dominated by the appearance of the object. For example,
there appears to be more blocks when they are spread out, than when they are in a small pile.
During the Concrete Operational Stage, children gradually develop the ability to conserve , or
learn that objects are not always the way that they appear to be. This occurs when children are
able to take in many different aspects of an object, simply through looking at it. Children are able
to begin to imagine different scenarios, or what if something was to happen. This is because they
now have more operational thought. Children are generally first able to conserve ideas about
objects with which they are most comfortable. Once children have learnt to conserve, they learn
about reversibility . This means that they learn that if things are changed, they will still be the
same as they used to be. For example, they learn that if they spread out the pile of blocks, there are
still as many there as before, even though it looks different! Formal Operations Stage

U.s. Covert Operations Enacted During The Soviet...
In the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, former President George W. Bush gave a
speech that resonated with millions of people. America was targeted for attack because we re
the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world, said Bush. This rhetoric became
a popular opinion which still lasts today. However, it is misleading. The true events that
produced the 9/11 attacks are not realized by most Americans. In reality, the September 11th
terrorist attacks were a product of the history of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East,
particularly regarding the covert operations enacted during the Soviet occupation of
Afghanistan. To understand the complicated sequence of events that led to 9/11, one first must
understand how United States foreign policy is made and enacted. U.S. foreign policy is largely
made by a very select group of officials, including the President. This is referred to as the deep
state . The deep state is the idea of a government within the government that enforces federal
actions and has the ability to override public policy. No one is elected for the position, and there
are certainly no checks and balances. These actions include covert operations, which are secret
operations that may even be illegal. The illegality of these operations and the entire organization
are protected via cover up. Ultimately, the deep state allows special interests to dominate and
corrupt U.S. foreign policy. The impact of these special interests is

How Does Wart Use Power In The Moat
When Wart is turned into a perch to explore the moat, the concept of might is right is first
examined. While transformed into a fish,Wart meets Mr. P. Mr. P is the king fish in the moat
and has a very corrupt view on power over others. He tells Wart that Power is of the individual
mind, but the mind s power is not enough. Power of the body decides everything in the end, and
only Might is Right (White 45). Wart is hypnotized by the impact of Mr. P s words and learns
that power is an intimidating thing. Mr. P is the epitome of unjust power being forced over the
fish of the moat. He is portrayed as an unflattering king and Wart begins to be introduced to the

He is scared by the pressures of power and is intimidated based off his past experiences. Earlier in
the novel, while talking to the badger he says, I should have liked to go to war (White 187).
Through his experiences with Merlin, he now believes that ruling in a noble way is more
important than intimidating the people one rules over. He adapts the mind set and ideals of his
teacher, Merlin. Merlin consistently believes that jousting and tilting are foolish and childish. He
passes his ideals on to Wart through showing him how foolish it is to joust when he takes Wart to
see King Pellinore and Sir Grummore fight for no reason. He shows Wart that bravery isn t what
he was traditionally taught and bravery is really shown when one has knowledge and a just mind
set. White develops this motif through the theme that power corrupts and one must rule with
equality and bravery in order to be a strong leader. This theme is explored and embodied through
Merlin and his teachings. Through Merlin, Wart learns what it means to be a capable and
knowledgable leader. With his strong militaristic background and intellectual experiences, Arthur is
given potential to be a wise

Interview with a Manager

Introduction: Leadership is understanding people and involving them to help you do a job. That
takes all of the good characteristics, like integrity, dedication of purpose, selflessness, knowledge,
skill, implacability, as well as determination not to accept failure (Burke 1995). The purpose of this
paper is to interview a manager from an organization and find out the leadership styles she uses to
effectively manage the staff there. This paper also looks at the approach she uses toward
employment satisfaction, how she motivates the employees and analyzes the different approaches
she uses in her job. The manager that I interviewed works in Loui CafГ© in Penn University. Her

If everyone worked equally aiming towards the same goal, the employees will be satisfied with
their job and in turn the customers will be happy with the service they received. Laura L. Paglis
and Stephen G. Green states in the article, Leadership Self Efficacy and Managers Motivation for
Leading Change that leadership efficacy helps in building the relationship of the manager with the
employees, gaining their commitment to the organization to change goals that have been set, and
overcome any problems that they face along the way. It has been found that managers with higher
self efficacy are more likely to initiate efforts into achieving the set goals for the organization
(Paglis et al, 2002).
Ms. Hill works as a transactional leader in the cafГ© as she sets goals and rewards or punishes the
employees according to their performance in the job. She helps them achieve their potential by
training them to work effectively. While aiming for customer satisfaction, she also makes sure that
the employees are satisfied with the work environment and the co workers they work with and
gives them employee benefits appropriately. Mark A. Griffin, Malcolm G. Patterson and Michael A.

  • 2. Impact Of King Kalakaua On The Hawaiian Renaissance A changing Nation The Hawaiian renaissance was a time period in Hawaii s history that influenced many people during that time. King Kalakaua created conflict between the Hawaiians and Americans. The United States of America failed to recognize Hawaii s opposition to annexation and created compromises that made a big impact on how Hawaii flourished culturally, politically, and economically. Hawaiian Monarchy was slowly dying due to their powers being taken away. Hawaiian Culture was beginning to get lost from society because more and more people were being drawn to foreign beliefs and ways of life as the haole population continued to grow, this is initially when The First Hawaiian Renaissance had begun. Compromises, many made by King Kalakaua, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hawaiian Renaissance also gave natives an opportunity to fight for what they knew was right about preserving the Hawaiian culture forever. This provided an avenue for people who did not know Hawaiian culture to witness, and at the same time, understand what it took to preserve the culture. Lastly, the Hawaiian renaissance had further pushed the United states to find ways to take away what rightfully belonged to the Hawaiians, including culture, in means of agreements that were not written on just formal documents but done without consent. Regardless, it had also drawn Hawaii as nation under the United States. The conflicts and compromises made during this Hawaiian Renaissance completely changed what people now know as Hawaii, and it is truly an important aspect of what it came to be today and how the culture of Hawaiians was preserved. People all over the world, especially those who know nothing about Hawaii or even America, should all learn about this major time in Hawaii s history where people fought against the eradication of their culture, as their way of life. The Hawaiian renaissance is too vague to be compared to a personal problem in life, but it shows how with a conflict and many compromises, many things can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Literary Point Of Forshadowing In Monkey s Paw The author of The Monkey s Paw, W.W. Jacobs uses many literary techniques to create suspense. The story is about an old man named Mr. White who gets a monkey s paw with magical powers, he wishes for 200 pounds. He also loses his son during the process. To create suspense and convey the point of the story Jacobs uses literary techniques such as, mood, imagery, and foreshadowing. One of the first techniques he uses is foreshadowing. Before Sergeant Major Morris gives Mr. White the paw, he describes the fakir who cursed the paw, he said, He wanted to show that fate ruled people s lives and those who interfered with it so did their sorrow (paragraph 26). This evidence reveals that the paw is cursed by a fakir who wants to teach people a lesson about interfering with fate when they wish for things that aren t destined to happen. Because of this the reader can conclude that the wishes will not have the desired outcome. In addition, when the whites inquire more about the paw, Morris throws it into the fire and warns them of the consequences after Mr. White quickly retrieves it (paragraph 31 and 44). The reader can infer from this that Morris doesn t want Mr. White to have the paw. However, Mr. White reaches his hand in the fire and risks burning himself to retrieve the paw. You can also tell from this that Morris had such a bad experience with the paw that he wants to destroy it. After that, Mr. White asks Morris about the first person to have the paw, Morris s response was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Animal Farm Journal Entry Analysis Roughly a century after Napoleon s rule of Animal Farm, a young pig stumbled upon a dusty leather bound diary hidden away in the straw strewn loft of the ramshackle barn. The same barn which held those legendary meetings from long before. With a tentative trotter, the youngster filed through the delicate pages, unconvering a story which to that point had remained untold. The story of a raven from the days of old and his quest to lead his animal brethren to the religious truth unfolded before the pigs eyes the story of Moses. The following are the most significant entries from his account of life on Animal farm. Entry 1: Jones came home today grumbling about the animals and his farmhands again. At least he took the time to throw me some scraps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I ve overheard some animals suggesting that I do not help with laboring on the farm. This angers me greatly, as I am participating in the only work that truly matters. Not everyone thinks I m a crazy bird though, some sheep and chickens have come to the light, and we are meeting regularly to discuss our beliefs and theology. I am ahppy to see that my journey back to Animal Farm was not frivolous. Entry 5: This is a dark day. The pigs have gone too far. I was greatly pained when some of my most loyal followers came to me in anguish as they knew they were going to be executed by Napoleon and his dogs. All I could do was offer spiritual guidance to ensure that they found their way to Sugarcandy Mountain. It has become clear to me that my true mission on this farm is to minister to these evil, demonic pigs. If they can be converted, this whole farm can still be saved! Entry 6: It has been quite some time since I ve written here. It feels as though it s been decades actually. Time passed, and with it, many of my followers and friends. To this point, my ministry to the pigs has proven fruitless. Not one animal actually seems to hear my truth anymore, I have been permanently labelled a crazy old bird. Well, at least I will end up on that mountain some day. I will never forget those lives I saved, and what I saw in those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay about Describing Dunkirk Describing Dunkirk On the 20th May 1940the allied troops were trapped by the Germans on the Northern coast of France. The allies consisted of the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F), the Belgian Army and the ten best divisions of the French Army. It was on this day that Churchill gave the command for the evacuation to take place, to Britain by ship, following advice from Lord Gort (leader of the B.E.F). Rommel was advancing from the north and Degaudier from the south trapping the troops. The evacuation was organised by Admiral Ramsey and codenamed Operation Dynamo with the main objective to rescue as much of the B.E.F as possible. This evacuation began on May 27th from the beaches of Dunkirk.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An important factor in arguing Dunkirk as a defeat is that 68,111 men from the B.E.F were killed, wounded or taken prisoner during the evacuation. The cost of replacing the B.E.F s equipment would be astronomical for the government and for their part in the evacuation the Navy suffered 243 ships sunken (including 6 important British destroyers with 19 left damaged) and the RAF lost 474 aircraft. Source 3 supports the view of Dunkirk as a British military defeat. It is a photographic source showing Dunkirk after the evacuation displaying a deserted beach littered with equipment, corpses and debris. Off the shore are broken half sunken ships with those that have become beached, one possibly a military boat and also many smaller vessels. The photograph of the dead soldiers shows military defeat as the objective was to rescue the B.E.F and would be very demoralising for the British public. The large boat could belong to the navy and would be very valuable, loss of this would be very expensive, along with the rest of the abandoned equipment. The source seems reliable as it is first hand primary evidence. It is useful for showing defeat as it displays what it looked like at Dunkirk after the evacuation. Its also backs up my own knowledge as the B.E.F lost 68,111 men and you would expect bodies on the beaches where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Who Is An Outsider In Othello Throughout William Shakespeare s career as a playwright, many of his plays contend with the issue of an outsider, whether as the focal source of tension that compels the plot forward or as a minor subplot that is craftily interwoven into the framework of the entire play. This is a concept that is reflected in Shakespeare s Othelloand The Merchant of Venice. However, the word outsider must first be considered in relation to each of Shakespeare s plays. For the purpose of this paper, an outsider is an individual that is not wholly accepted within a particular group; in the case of Othello and The Merchant of Venice, this particular group is the Venetian elite, who are predominately Caucasian and adhere to Christian beliefs. Consequently, this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As many of the Venetians [are] Christian (MV 1.3.39), Shylock is subjected to religious discrimination because he [is] a Jew (3.1.54). This is significant because Shylock is forced to face a number of abuses at the Venetian elite. For this reason alone, Shylock is spit on (1.3.123) and called [a] dog (3.1.125) just because of the religious beliefs he adheres to conflicts with the beliefs of the Venetian elite. Where Shylock is constantly laughed at (3.1.51) and mocked at (3.1.51) by Antonio, a member of the accepted Venetian elite, for being a religious outsider, this indicates that the Venetians view Shylock and, by extension, the entire Jewish religion as an embodiment of the devil. As the Venetian elite believe Shylock is an evil soul producing holy witness / Is like a villain with a smiling cheek (1.3.97 98) that disrupts the accepted religion in Venice, this demonstrates that a religion difference is justifiable reason to discriminate Shylock. The extreme instances of unfair treatment that Shylock withstands from the Venetians because of his religious beliefs denotes him like Othello as an outsider in Venice. The dualities of acceptance extends only to those individuals who do not threaten the scarcity of that which the Venetian elite hold most dear to them: purity and Christianity. As Othello and Shylock both threaten these aspects, the illusion of acceptance bestowed upon them by the Venetian elite shatters and leads to the harsh discrimination and denotation as outsiders in Venice. Incidentally, where the Venetian elite believe that Othello and Shylock are outsiders for their racial and religious identities, Othello and Shylock sustain this belief by depicting themselves as the stereotypes that are associated with them, ... • 11. The Scientific Techniques Used For Experimentation... The scientific techniques used for experimentation throughout the ages can spark controversy. In the The Island of Dr. Moreau, vivisection becomes the island s culture. There are many aspects of vivisection that continuously overstep the rights of animals and the morals of humans. Dr. Moreau s lack of sympathy for inflicting pain as well as the undeveloped jungle in which they experiment in also raises questions in how ethical this practice is. From a moral standpoint vivisection could be seen as wrong because of: the sanitary conditions of the island and the assumed lack of anesthesia used on animals during vivisection. The ethics of vivisection and other scientific techniques become increasingly controversial and continue to go over the boundaries of human capability and morals. Harmful scientific techniques against animals are underrated because the scientific community and public do not establish the status of animals and their rights to proper treatment. The culture of vivisection became more about creating fears than the reality of the situation. The question of monsters or miracle became anew in this novel as Pendrick s initial fear of the beast men changed to a peculiar interest later on in the text. (Framing the Future, 194) (Island of Dr. Moreau). Pendrick s first awakening after the shipwreck came with thoughts and theories of torture that awaited him. Seeing the beast men only added to his curiosity and fright. His response towards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Family Guy Racism The corpus to be analyzed consists of the most controversial episodes of an internationally popular and long running adult animation show called Family Guy. This show represents cultural attitudes and embodies how the youth of today see themselves and others, as well as influencing viewers. Some messages in this popular show, and others like it, underscore prejudices and racist attitudes in our society, showcasing the discrimination that minorities and some ethnicities face. Furthermore, these shows actually serve to strengthen existing prejudices, increasing these attitudes in viewers. The target audience of Family Guyis primarily youth in their teens and young adults (it also slants mostly male). This age group is of course more impressionable than others, being in their formative years; the messages in the television that they watch, then, have a particularly strong effect on their perceptions of raceand ethnicity. In the Family Guy episode PTV , Osama bin Ladenis depicted humorously recording a threat to America, using a rubber chicken and other slapstick humor; he goes on to make a joke that someone used a doctor s note to get out of a suicide bombing. This joke is highly offensive, propagating a bigoted point of view of Arab, Middle Eastern, and South Asian (hereinafter AMESA ) worlds, which are often perceived as being barbaric, untrustworthy, anti democratic, violent, and filled with religious militants (Hughey and Muradi 2009). • 13. The Reaction To The Emancipation Proclamation Reaction to the Proclamation The Proclamation had little impact on slavery. The Proclamation only applied to places where it was under Confederate Control. The Proclamation was condemned in the South and debated in the North. Abolitionists criticized Lincoln for not going far enough. The Proclamation did nothing to free people who were enslaved in the border states. So, slaves in the Confederate states that were controlled by the Union s force were not affected. Northerners feared that all freed people coming to the North would cause a lot of unemployment. The Northern Africans response was way more positive. Abolitionist Frederick Douglas said: We shout for joy that we live to record this righteous decree. There was no immediate end to slavery. African Americans Join the War and African Soldiers The Emancipation Proclamation had two different immediate effects. The Proclamation inspired Southern slaves to free themselves by escaping to the protection of Union troops. This encouraged Africans to join the war. When the Civil War began, Africans volunteers were not allowed to join the Union army until July of 1862. In July of 1872, Congress authorized Lincoln to accept the announcement in the Emancipation Proclamation that Africans could now join the Union Army. In 1865 over 180,000 African Americans had been enlisted in the Union Army. More than half of the soldiers were from the South. The idea of the absurd is seen in many existentialist works, particularly in the works of Albert Camus. Absurdity is the notion of contrast between two things. As Camus defines it in The Myth of Sisyphus: The absurd is born out of this confrontation between the human need and the unreasonable silence of the world This view, which is shared by fellow French philosopher Jean Paul Sartre, is that humanity must live in a world that is and will forever be hostile or indifferent towards them. The universe will never truly care for humanity the way we seem to want it to. The atheist view of this statement is that people create stories, or gods, which in their minds transcend reality to fill this void and attempt to satisfy their need. Now Let s Begin... ... So when the ads claim that Detroit is telling an untold story, what they really mean is Tis new to thee. And yet I suspect that it will not seem new, nor old, to most audiences only all too familiar. Bigelow s film is the nearest thing I can think of to an American counterpart of Paul Greengrass s docudrama Bloody Sunday. In its first act (of three), Bigelow approximates Greengrass s pseudo verite style, immersing us in the buildup to the 1967 Detroit riots with jumpy immediacy, with great help from her Zero Dark Thirty editor, William Goldenberg. Over time, we are introduced to the characters who will converge on the Algiers Motel, including the members of the Dramatics, an aspiring soul act whose gig at the Fox Theater is abruptly cancelled by the riots; a reckless cop (Will Poulter) who s allowed back on the streets after shooting a looter in the back despite orders not to fire at looters; and a securityguard(John Boyega) whose uniform gives him some immunity from suspicion on the part of white police and National Guard troops. Second impact syndrome is when one receives a blow to the head before the brain is completely healed. This results in swelling of the brain, and that can result in a fatal death. The main reason that people suffer from this is they do not get the proper amount of rest that they need before they go back and play whatever sport they were playing. Since 1984, more than twenty people have died from second impact syndrome (Caroline M, et al.). Anyone who receives a second concussion that is moderate to severe after they have had a first one should sit out from their sport for at least a month to avoid second impact syndrome. Well 5 was a shallow well, and all of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn from an area of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the surrounding bedrock, made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock (O Connor, 2002, pp.166). The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated that in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. There is a detective (male) obsessed with solving a mysterious string of murders, ruined marriage, a subordinate female coworker, and of course all of the victims being female. It is not long before the reader realizes something is different about this text. The first clue is that the killer is labeled Eve, a traditionally female name associated with the mother of humanity. The second clue is that the supposed strong male protagonist is exhibiting reactions to stressful situations that are traditionally considered effeminate. These are however, not even secondary characters, and is when we look at the more prominent female characters that tradition is thrown to the wayside. Heather Clark, Daniel s ex wife, is first introduced as being a woman who was powerless to stop her husband s obsession with a serial killer. She is even depicted as being so dependent that she becomes obsessed with her husband. This leads to a subsequent obsession with Eve and Heather s own amateur detective work. Ironically it is Heather that serial killer communicates with, not Daniel. In fact, the serial killer communicates through her to Daniel. Heather is the one that receives the warning that if Daniel tries to stop Eve, he will die (Dekker, 23 24). The reiteration the notion that the male characters need to go through female characters for the information to gain importance, means that without the female characters the story could not continue. Later in the novel Daniel is captured by the serial killer and his wife Heather goes to save him. However, she soon discovers that that Daniel is possessed by Eve and calls a priest, Father Seymour, to try and save him (Dekker, 315 326). Heather, not Daniel the supposed detective character, is the one who thinks to call the priest. She realizes his importance in stopping Eve and Alex, Daniel however is still adamantly against the very idea of supernatural involvement. The most common reason why Raynaud s phenomenon occurs is because of exposure to the cold. In the cold, it is normal for the body to narrow the small blood vessels to the skin and to open the blood vessels to the inside part of the body to keep the body warm. But with Raynaud s, the body restricts blood flow to the skin more than it needs to. (WebMD, 2005 2016). Other reasons consist of taking certain medications, using vibrating power tools for a number of years, excessive smoking, having emotional stress, caffeine, trauma, circulatory problems, drug use, exposure to some chemicals or toxic substances, or having frostbite could be factors that could contribute to getting Raynaud s disease. There are many triggers, but the basic cause of Raynaud s disease is still not known. There has been a link established between Raynaud s and some autoimmune diseases. Raynaud s may also signal damage to the blood vessels caused by occupational injuries. (Raynaud s Association, 2016). This was simply an economical failure from the hands of some of the most well known financial institutions and the Government. Going back to 1997 to 2006, if you take a look at the Case Shiller Home Price Index (the leading indicator for the US housing market residential prices), you will discover a rise in nominal home prices of 188%. Although there is not a lot of consensus that uncovers what sparked the housing bubble, countless people have spoken their opinion in regards to this: misguided monetary policy; government policies pushing home ownership, consumer speculation of rising home prices, and lower housing supply. These examples can t fully explain the crash, but they can provide insight as to what may have happened or at least contributed to it. The guards in The Longest Yard are also aggressively racist. They look to attack the black males of the prisonat all times and act in any way to evoke a response from them. Jean Piaget According to Piaget, language development is related to cognitive development, that is, the development of the child s thinking determines when the child can learn to speak and what the child can say. For example, before a child can say, This teddy is smaller than that one , she/he must have developed the ability to judge differences in size. The Concrete Operations Stage, this stage was believed to have affected children aged between seven and eleven to twelve years old. During this stage, the thought process becomes more rational, mature and adult like , or more operational , although this process most often continues well into the teenage years. Piaget claims that before the beginning of this stage, children s ideas about different objects, are formed and dominated by the appearance of the object. For example, there appears to be more blocks when they are spread out, than when they are in a small pile. During the Concrete Operational Stage, children gradually develop the ability to conserve , or learn that objects are not always the way that they appear to be. This occurs when children are able to take in many different aspects of an object, simply through looking at it. Children are able to begin to imagine different scenarios, or what if something was to happen. This is because they now have more operational thought. Children are generally first able to conserve ideas about objects with which they are most comfortable. Once children have learnt to conserve, they learn about reversibility . This means that they learn that if things are changed, they will still be the same as they used to be. For example, they learn that if they spread out the pile of blocks, there are still as many there as before, even though it looks different! Formal Operations Stage ... This rhetoric became a popular opinion which still lasts today. However, it is misleading. The true events that produced the 9/11 attacks are not realized by most Americans. In reality, the September 11th terrorist attacks were a product of the history of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, particularly regarding the covert operations enacted during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.
