This document summarizes four major waves of change throughout history: the pre-agricultural wave, the agricultural wave, the industrial wave, and the emerging green wave. Each wave brought changes in energy sources, technologies, and modes of distribution. The agricultural wave saw the rise of settlements, craftsmanship, and early forms of transportation and warfare. The industrial wave was powered by coal, gas, oil, and electricity and brought factories, mass production, and global transportation and trade networks. Now a green wave is emerging based on renewable resources like solar and wind power along with new technologies and global distribution systems.
