Examples Of Team Sensemaking
Accordingly to Jensen (2009) sensemaking within a team is affected by the team s team process.
The team process can be described as team members individual act that transform inputs into
outcomes through cognitive, verbal and behavioral activities to organize work and achieve
collective goals (Marks et al. 2001).
Team sensemaking is defined as the process where a team manages and coordinates its efforts to
explain and understand a situation and anticipate future situations, often during unclear conditions
(Klein et al, 2010). Klein et al (2010) further argues that team sensemaking is not a new kind of
sensemaking, it is rather the coordination of the team members when seeking data, synthesize the
data and then disseminate inferences. Through co creation of knowledge and social negotiation of
inferences, the outcome of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept is similarly defined as collective sensemaking by Albert and Hayes (2006) who
define it as sensemaking by a group of individuals both in established and ad hoc situations who
collaborates on a specific task or mission. The outcome of collective sensenmaking is similarly
to the outcomes defined by Klein et al (2010) a shared awareness, knowledge, understanding and
interaction between the collaborators (Albert Hayes, 2006). The concept of collective
sensemaking will be explained in more detail in the next the section. Klein et al (2010) further
argues that team sensemaking is a process that contributes to the larger process of team adaption.
Klein et al (2010) developed a model on team adaption, using concepts on a similar team
adaption model by Burke et al. (2006). The model by Klein et al (2010) of team adaption consists
of three concepts for reaching operational success which is building a picture, building a plan and
executing a plan. The model of team adaption by Burke et al (2006) propose an

Early and Present Leadership of the Democratic Republic of...
As the topic suggests, my paper will be based on the early and present Leadership of the
Democratic Republic of Congo. This paper will be based on the effect these regimes had on the
social and economic standard of Congo. That is the focus will be on a timeline basis; how things
evolved from the colonial era of Congo, to the post colonial era and to the status quo.
My reason for choosing these topic is, Congo can be considered as developing state or under
developed state depends on what your personal view of the criteria s that qualifies a state as a
developing state or an underdeveloped state; unlike its western counterpart: example the United
States, Great Britain and European states. Now the question is; could the under development of
Congo be as a result in the poor leadership Congo have had in time past? Is Congo in the right part
to archiving infrastructural development and increasing the social economic status? Can the
present leaders do anything different to expedite development? Or are they moving at a good
pace? These and more are questions that arises from a topic like this.
By the end of this research paper, all the questions asked in the previous paragraphs will be
answered, and also I will include some of my personal taught on what political modules Congo
should adopt in order to foster its economy and social standard.
This paper would not be complete without briefly looking at the history of Congo. Why is this
important? A brief history will be the map to

The Theme of Nature in Frankenstein Essay
In 1818 Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelley. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein brings a
creature to life. The creature kills William, Henry Clerval, and Elizabeth. Victor had promised to
make a female creature for the creature, but he did not fulfill his promise. This makes the creature
enraged. The creature runs away and Victor follows him. Victor gets on a boat with Walton. Victor
dies and the creature comes and is very sad that his creator has died. The creature says that he must
end his suffering and he jumps into the ocean. In the novel Frankenstein, Shelley uses the theme of
nature to show how it is like the characters of the story and how it affects the characters. The theme

The creature also wants to be noticed. The mountain is very beautiful, but during the storm it
may look scary. The creature is can be beautiful through his acts of kindness, like helping people,
but also is unattractive and can look and be grotesque. In the essay, Frankenstein and Mary
Shelley s wet ungenial summer , Phillips states, Some of her descriptions were later
incorporated into her novel. In another letter to her sister Fanny, on June 1st 1816, Mary wrote:
The thunder storms that visit us are grander and more terrific than I have ever seen before. We
watch them as they approach from the opposite side of the lake, observing the lightning play
among the clouds in various parts of the heavens, and dart in jagged figures upon the heights of
Jura, dark with the shadow of the overhanging could, while perhaps the sun is shining cheerily
upon us. (Phillips 3) Many of Mary Shelley s ideas came from nature. A storm similar to this one
was seen by victor. She uses this storm to describe how Victor sees the creature. Victor thinks the
creature is violent at times and beautiful at others. In addition, the creature causes destruction like
an avalanche. Shelley writes, In a thousand spots the traces of the winter avalanche may be
perceived, where trees lie broken and strewed on the ground; some entirely destroyed, others bent,
leaning upon the rocks of the mountain or transversely upon other trees. The path, as you ascend

Signs and symptoms of sepsis are often nonspecific and include the following: Fever, chills, or
rigors, Confusion, Anxiety, Difficulty breathing, Fatigue, malaise, Nausea and vomiting. It is
important to identify any potential source of infection. Localizing signs and symptoms referable to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Strip Mining
ABSTRACT
Mining is the extraction of profitable minerals or other geographical materials from the earth,
normally from a metal body crease. Digging forms include prospecting for metal bodies,
examination of the benefit capability of a proposed mine extraction of the coveted materials.
Mining actually implies extraction .Our Mother Earth has heaps of assets profound inside her and
mining is the strategy for separating all these significant assets from the earth through various
means. There are distinctive techniques to separate these assets which are found in various

пѓ Strip Mining :
Stripping or strip mining is the evacuation of overburden or waste materials from open pit surface
mines. The procedure includes machines, for example, stripping scoops, basin wheel excavators, or
drag lines to strip away the stone and reveal the profitable metal that is being mined.
Significant minerals, for example, coal, ironstone, or limestone are revealed by a scoop that
burrows long strips or a machine that cuts and throws the overburden from the pit with a specific
end goal to uncover the metal. The stripping scoop normally sits on of the surface it is mining and
is moved forward as the burrowing propels.

Summary Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine
Louise Erdrich s book, Love Medicine is said to be an authentic narration when it comes to Native
American life. This essay looks at the similarities between the love triangle that is depicted in
Erdrich s novel, along with the male female relationships which are described in Ruth Landes
ethnographic study of Ojibwe women and gender, which was first published in 1938 (Introduction).
Parallels between the two books certainly exist. One is even able to substitute the characters of
Nector Kashpaw, Marie Kashpaw, and Lulu Lamartine, into an almost identical situation in Landes
book The OjibwaWoman, due to the similarities.
Louise Erdrich herself is a recognized member of the Ojibwe tribe. She also runs an independent
bookstore in Minnesota along with her daughters. The name of the bookstore is Birchbark
Books; it specializes in Native American books, jewelry, and arts. Part of the description on the
website reads Birchbark Books provides a locus for Native intellectual life. We are native owned
(Louise Erdrich is an enrolled Turtle Mountain Chippewa) and our staff is of either Native
background, or exceedingly Native friendly .
Ruth Schlossberg Landes, author of the book The Ojibwa Woman is a cultural anthropologist
from New York City. Landes received her B.C. from New York University along with her Master
s degree in social work. Later, she earned her Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University.
During the 1930s at the age of twenty three, as part of her doctoral studies, Landes traveled to
Fort Frances, Ontario to research the lives of Ojibwa women. She pursued her studies aided by a
woman of mixed Scotts Cree descent named Maggie Wilson. Wilson, who grew up amongst the
Ojibwas was also known for her broad knowledge of Ojibwa customs and beliefs. Like other Native
American groups, the Ojibwa were victims of colonization and systematic oppression. Much of
their land was usurped by the government. In addition, many of the Ojibwa cultural traditions were
banned or white washed. All these factors combined resulted in the marginalization of the tribe and
the erosion of their culture.
On account of Love Medicine being the title of Louise Erdrich s book, it makes sense, to begin
with, its description as

The Unconverted Self By Jonathan Boyarin Essay
In The Unconverted Self, author Jonathan Boyarin reexamines the relationship between Christian
Europe and the world around it, especially in the context of interreligious dialogue as a means of
defining Christian identity. The common school of thought, as presented in this book, is that
European identity reaches modernity after 1492 with the discovery of the radically different
culture of Indigenous Americans (p. 9). Boyarin argues that this is untrue, as this belief operates
under the incorrect assumption that the European people were a homogenous population (p.9).
Instead, Boyarin seeks to move beyond the concept of two separate Europes, and proposes instead
that this othering that was so critical to define Christian identity was already occurring in pre
contact Europe (p. 1). For this, Boyarin looks to the Jewish and Muslim populations of Europe as a
replacement for the Indigenous American peoples. He asserts that this sense of the other
threatening Christendom existed far before 1492, and outlines the ways in which this conflict in
religious dimensionality was vital to the formation of Christian identity. Boyarin s volume presents
a concise read that reexamines existing scholarship and recontextualizes historical events to create
a convincing argument, as well as provide questions for future scholarship to build upon. However,
there were aspects in this book that were lacking, causing it to be an almost tedious read at parts.
The Unconverted Self uses the history

Gun Violence And Control Gun Control In The United States
Humanity... All of my suffering on this world has been at the hands of humanity, particularly
women. It has made me realize just how brutal and twisted humanity is as a species. All I ever
wanted was to fit in and live a happy life amongst humanity, but I was cast out and rejected,
forced to endure an existence of loneliness and insignificance, all because the females of the
human species were incapable of seeing the value in me. This is the story of how I, Elliot
Rodger, came to be. This is the story of my entire life. It is a dark story of sadness, anger, and
hatred. It is a story of a war against cruel injustice...This tragedy did not have to happen. I didn t
want things to turn out this way, but humanity forced my hand, and this story will explain why

with increasing regularity in the United States. Mass shootings are violent incidents that involve
firearms with multiple people ending up dead or injured. In the United States, the subject of mass
shootings inspires strong debates about various issues leading to such incidents such as guns,
mental health, and media and how it influences violence. The proposal for this problem revolves
around controlling gun ownership a sensitive topic, addressing mental health, and minimizing

M Night Shyamalan Stereotypes
In the movie, Unbreakable, directed by M. Night Shyamalan the main character David Dunn has
a sharp intuition, better than average strength, and a natural immunity to getting injured or sick,
rather than superpowers that his son and Elijah Price believe him to have. To begin with, David
Dunn has honed his instincts to sense danger due to his current position as a security guard.
From many years as a security guard, David has gained the ability to sense criminals. However,
this is not a supernatural talent since one can guess who is a potential criminal by using
stereotypes. For example, the man David assumed to have a gun was wearing a camouflage
army jacket and people with that type of style are usually violent or like to show off. In addition,
David could have smelt alcohol from the person in the army jacket. As for being able to guess the
color of the gun handle, David himself said that he had a one out of two chance of guessing
correctly and he could have gotten a glimpse of the gun when he turned around for a double take.

David was able to lift three hundred fifty pounds during his workout with his son. The fact that

physical strength is important to him. His earliest show of strength was when he pulled the car
door off its hinges after he was in a car accident with Audrey, his present wife. People can
perform great physical feats when in emergencies, like a car accident, due to adrenaline.
Moreover, David was a star football player at the time, so he was also in his physical prime.

Pros And Cons Of Abortion In India
Abortion is one delicate subject when it comes to debating about it because of people religious
beliefs and the controversy surrounding it. But what people don t know that in many parts of the
world abortion is a big part of their daily life choices. And by that, I mean that most people tend to
have abortions, depending on the sexof their baby, because of their belief system. China and India
are one of the major countries that prefer males over females because men are the ones that are
always in power in the household and also they are the ones that tend to inherit the majority of the
family s benefits. China has one of the highest abortion rates, along with that they have the lowest
femalepopulation. Throughout my research, I ve learned a lot about sex selective abortion one of
those things that it s traveling to other parts of the world.
The reason I chose to write my report on sex selective abortion is that I saw a documentary called It
s a Girl: The Three Deadliest Words in the World I found it to be intersecting since this was my
first time ever hearing about. I couldn t understand why? Throughout the documentary, you learn
mainly how women in China and in India are being neglected and are forced into having an
abortion because of the sex of their baby. IN INDIA, CHINA AND MANY OTHER PARTS OF

Historical Capitalism And The Context Of Historical...
Over time, capitalism has become one of the most dynamic economic systems that have ever
existed. Not only has it been successful in bringing the entire world into a solitary framework, it has
also shifted the economic state, primarily focusing on maximizing profits for the owners. This is
evident as presented throughout Frederick Engels Theoretical. Engels peers deeper into the
fundamental context of capitalism; however, in order to do this, he must develop a better
understanding of its inconsistencies and how it has impact the overall development of the world.
The notion of historical materialismis addressed when further analyzing the overall context of
capitalism. According to Engels, he argues that historical materialism starts from the principle
that production, and with production the exchange of its products, is the basis of every social
order... (Engels, 1959: 292). In simpler terms, historical materialism is a system of production and
exchange which have always been the driving forces in social and political changes. It addresses
that in every society, wealth is distributed and divided into classes or orders dependent upon what
is produced, how it is produced, and how the products are exchanged (Engels, 1959: 292). However,
Engels does not see historical societal changes independent of the economic system corresponding
to it. He believes that historical materialism is not something that only concerns capitalism, it
involves itself with all economic systems, from

The Outcome Of Two Major Railroad Strikes
Identify and describe the outcome of two major Railroad Strikes. The two major Railroad
Strikes were the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and Railroad Shop workers Strike of 1922. The
Great Railroad Strike of 1877, was due to workers not being happy about the pay cuts that were
being made by their employer so often. Northern Railroads began cutting salaries and wages.
Because of various railroads cutting wages by 10% back to back, workers were not willing to
continue working under those conditions. Not only were the wages of the workers being cut,
the amount work of work given to the employees increased and the employer did not hire
additional workers. This then caused railroad employees to respond by taking control of the rail
yard switches, and blocking movement of trains. Throughout various cities such as Baltimore,
Pittsburg, St. Louise, and Chicago, Violent acts began to occur. Many people died throughout
the cities. The strike cause the country s commerce to become paralyzed and pushed governors
in different states to utilize militia members to reopen rail traffic. This action also helped set the
stage for violence that would occur later in the 1880s and 1890s. The Railroad Shop Workers
Strike of 1922 affected everyone in the country. This strike occurred because of the pay cut of
seven cents to the wages of the railroad workers. Approximately 400,000 rail shop workers from
various unions were on strike because the cut was announced by the railroad labor board. When

Trinity To Nazienzus Essay
The Trinity to Nazienzus is absolutely essential in his Five Theological Orations, and in them he
defines the Father is the Begetter and the Emitter; without passion of course, and without reference
to time, and not in a corporeal manner. This means that though numerically distinct there is no
severance of Essence. Christ is not subordinate to the Father, and the Holy Ghost is not subordinate
to the Father or the Son; the Godhead is Triune in unity and is of the same substance. Even though
the Holy Spirit and the Son are from [the Father], though not after Him, they still share the same
essence as Him in the Trinity. This is an important distinction, because any part of the Godhead that
has not existed for all time would not be Godby definition. Nazienzus explains this by saying that
the cause is not necessarily prior to its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He goes so far to say that the notion of Two Sons, one of God the Father, the other of the mother
warrants the loss of adoption into God s Kingdom. God and man have two distinct natures, just as
the body and the soul are two distinct natures, but there are not two sons or two gods in the person
of Jesus. This is valid because it adheres to scripture, and because the alternative is heresy. There
are plentiful examples of the divinity of God, one being John 8:58, where Jesus proclaims to the
dismay of the Pharisees before Abraham was, I am, which caused them to try and stone Him for
what they considered blasphemy. His humanity can be seen in Matthew 4:2 where He hungered
after fasting for 40 days and nights, and in Mark 15:37 where the human person of Jesus died on
the cross, even though his deity descended to Sheol. This shows the validity of the Trinitarian
model, which means that the Three are One and the same in Godhead, as Christ is still the fully
functioning second person of the

BRAND BUILDING BLOCKS
Building Strong Brands: Why Is It Hard?
It is not easy to build brands in today s environment. The brand builder who attempts to develop a
strong brand is like a golfer playing on a course with heavy roughs, deep sand traps, sharp doglegs,
and vast water barriers. It is difficult to score well in such conditions. Substantial pressures and
barriers, both internal and external, can inhibit the brand builder. To be able to develop effective
brand strategies, it is useful to understand these pressures and barriers
Different factors that make it difficult to build brands are shown in the figure above. The first,
pressure to compete on price, directly affects the motivation to build brands. The second reason, the

2. Proliferation Of Competitors
New, vigorous competitors come from a variety of sources. A host of food categories have
watched Weight Watchers and Healthy Choice enter their markets through brand extension
strategies. In the snack category, Frito Lay has seen regional brands expand and Budweiser s
Eagle brand break out of its niche to become a major competitor. New product forms that provide
real alternatives for the customer have encroached the soft drink market, bottled water, carbonated
water, fruit based drinks, and new age drinks, among others.
Additional competitors not only contribute to price pressure and brand complexity, but also make
it much harder to gain and hold a position. They leave fewer holes in the market to exploit and
fewer implementation vehicles to own. Each brand tends to be positioned more narrowly, the target
markets become smaller, and the non target market becomes larger. Efforts to market to a broad
segment thus become more difficult in the face of the complex brandscape Further, some new or
desperate competitors may be motivated to take risks or attempt unusual approaches. The result can
be destabilization of the competitive dynamics. There is also an enhanced motivation to copy
anything that is successful, in part because the risks of

3D Art Case Study
1.The 2D manuscript painting on vellum of The Limbourg Brothers from the February calendar
was a beautiful lively artwork. The painting illustrates the frigid winter air by using the white
colors of the snow to cover the landscape. Proportion is used to portray the far distance at which
the center village lies. The individuals in the painting are also larger in size than the animals to
give a more realistic representation. The artist uses lines to create the edges of the farm building
built of wood. The top of the calendar uses a half circle shape in which to illustrate the dates.
Emphasis is given to the top of the calendar that displays the dates using a dark blue and gold color
to depict the night sky with constellations. The 3D sculpture... Show more content on

This 3D sculpture is providing balance with its symmetrical borders that surround Saint Mark.
Emphasis is placed on the center of the sculpture where Saint Mark is situated inside the empty
space off the sculpture. The 2D I found least aesthetically pleasing was the Flemish oil painting of
Jan Eyck, Portrait of Giovanni Arnolfini and Giovanna Genami. Although painted with an
astonishing level of realism, his use of proportion when painting the hands is disproportionally
small and seem flattened. This illustrates how marriage back then did not require the presence of
a priest or minister. The 3D German gothic Pieta made from polychromed wood was a disturbing
sculpture. The heads of the Virgin Mary and Jesus are larger than their bodies. Anatomical details
are exaggerated to emphasize the suffering Jesus endured. Repetition within the sculpture takes
form in the flowers of the pedestal in which the Virgin Mary sits. These flowers contrast with the
gruesome blood pouring from the body of Jesus. Overall this sculpture lacks color and looks like it
has a rough texture. These artworks all correlate to one another because they are within the 15th

A Biography of Benjamin Franklin Essay
A Biography of Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin was born into modest circumstances. With sixteen brothers and sisters, there
was no room for selfishness. He learned early on the importance of putting others before himself
and did not have excessively ambitious plans for the future. As a child, Franklin ...had a strong
inclination for the Sea, but his father would not hear of it. He ended up indentured to an older
brother, who began his life as a printer. He was a hard worker but preferred to read books,
conquer new subject matter, and engage in debates with other young scholars. His hard work did
pay off in the financial sense later in life, but of more importance to him was the knowledge and ...

Summary Of Nature s Metropolis By Cronon
In the novel Nature s Metropolis by William Cronon, the author examines the city of Chicago in the
context of the environmental and economic factors that has made it a trade center. Additionally, the
novel presents the case for a looser definition of nature in relationship to urban centers emphasizing
the interconnectedness of both spaces and the role of environmental and anthropogenic factors in
shaping them. Interconnectedness to the point that Cronon encourages readers to view the cityand
hinterlands related to it as a multitude of overlapping market and resource regions (Cronon 278).
Viewing the landscape through this anthropocentric lens where all spaces are involved in the
economics of the region elucidates the relationships present and breaks down the abstract walls
between city and hinterland. This essay will critically... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without sunshine, ecosystems would be confined to abiotic elements and mostly bacterial
organisms and the economy would not exist sans the people that drive the exchanges that make it
possible. Conversely, sunshine is converted into food for plants which can then be consumed by
another organism (and another organism...etc.) or converted into building materials. In either case,
the sunshine is converted into something with some market value which is what Cronon describes
as the wealth of nature despite the permutations it may go through before it s final use (Cronon
150). Consequently, economy is reliant on the ecosystem in which it exists and of which it is a
part and vice versa. For example, the prevalence of logging would vary by location and time of
year and the forests in the area would accordingly have different appearances (Cronon 156 157).
This meant that the people in an area adapted to their surroundings based on the shared pressures

The Death Tax and the Death of Family Farms Essay
Relief from high inheritance taxes expires at the end of December, 2012. In the article A Storm of
Estate Taxes Threatens Farm Country, Lynne Finnerty says that the new estate tax exemption will
drop to one million dollars and the tax rate will increase to fifty five percent (Finnerty). Lowering
the estate taxexemption while increasing the rate may consequently cause the liquidation of many
multigenerational family farms and an ultimate decrease in the world s food supply.
Comprehending the effect of estate taxes on farm families requires a general understanding of
farm economics. In Illinois, for example, there are 76,000 farms and more than 28 million acres of
farm land. Therefore, the average farm size is 368 acres, including... Show more content on

In Kill the Death Tax, the author states, The estate tax falls hardest on those who maintain a
family business or farm. When the cost exceeds cash assets, the estate tax can force family
business owners and farmers to sell in order to pay the tax ( Kill the Death Tax ). Unfortunately,
there are journalists and politicians who attempt to convince the American public that this
problem does not exist. Senator Bernie Sanders writes in Tax Code Must Stop Coddling the
Rich, Some Republicans argue that eliminating the estate tax would save family farms and small
businesses. Not true, though this argument has been tried before (Sanders). A simple analysis of
farm economics proves that Senator Sanders is misleading the American public. In 2012, a 368
acre farm inheritance in Illinois would create an estate tax bill of $623,920. The same farm
planted to corn, has the potential to generate an income of $17,664, which is obviously not
enough cash to pay the tax. Therefore, the only solution may be to sell part of the farm ground in
order to pay the tax, which could hinder the viability of the farming operation. In addition to
bankrupting family farms, the mere existence of the death tax is unfair. Assets that are liable to
estate taxes involve money that is being taxed for the second and sometimes third times. It taxes
assets which have already been subject to the federal payroll, income and/or capital gains

Wealth is something that not all people have, but most typically want more of it. There are many
people on Earth that wish they had more wealth, and there are even a select few that have too
much. The Gospel of Wealth by Andrew Carnegie is all about what should be done when there is
too much wealth held by an individual. Carnegie begins his essay by describing how the disparity
of wealthhas changed over the years. He also describes how wealth has simply grown in general
over time. Carnegie states, What were the luxuries have become the necessaries of life . He then
goes on to discuss ways that excess wealth accumulated by any one person can be spent or

Salvador Dali Surrealism
From what I noticed in this poem, I read it as the man in the poem is not happy about winter and
the snow with cold weather. When the man says Snow on the flowery almond tree I read that as
the man saying that the snow is covering up all the good stuff on Earth. With Snow on the snow I
read that as more snow is covering up the good things on Earth. The same thing applies to whern
he says It is like flowering almondtree under the snow about how the snow is covering up all of
the good things in the world. It s too cold this afternoon in the world is saying that that afternoon
almost all of the good things in the world are all completely covered in snow and that no one is
able to see then and experience them. When the man says But I open the door to my dog and he
comes into the warmth this shows him as saving his dog from the cold and allowing his dog to
to enter warmth with the rest of humanity. The speaker (persona) for this poem is named
Salvador Dali. This poet is what is known as a surrealist. A serrealist is an artist or writer who is

Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the town of Vinci. He was more than a painter

Antoine Arnauld s Argument Analysis
In objection to Descartes reasoning behind his attempt to establish that what is true, is clear and
distinct perception, Antoine Arnauld argues his reasoning is circular. Before explaining why
circularity is evident, I will first consider what Descartes truth rule really consists of. After
establishing cogito ergo sum , Descartes uses the same logical terminology in which the cogito was
established, to attempt to find other truths in the external world. However, as the is no causality
between cogito and external truths, some further proof is required for Descartes. This is at the point
Descartes introduces the argument for Gods existence and hence, we get the truthrule established.
He argues that God exists and is not a deceiver, in which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Descartes distinction between what we perceive clearly and distinctly, and what we remember
having perceived clearly and distinctly. In order for something to be certain, it must at least have
duration in the mind. This means that even when not concentrated on, it is still knowledge with the
potential to be certain. Some beliefs, on the other hand, can be certain without God s existence for
their truth, but only for as long as they are concentrated on. Such beliefs are clear and distinct, and
therefore true, when thought of and not dependent upon a non deceiving God that would assure us
of their truth. Their truth is established by their being clear and distinct when concentrated on. The
contradiction lies with what Descartes considers eternal truths , that geometrical facts, such as the
area of a circle is equal to ПЂr^2, or the fact that three angles of a triangle are equal to two right
angles, are all only true because of Gods existence and non deceptive nature. This with
consideration to Descartes response to Arnauld, leaves up with the implication that an eternal truth
is only true once we clearly and distinctly perceive it, and then not true, when the attentiveness of
geometric truths leaves our mind; sounding like a

Irish Nationalists Struggle for Independence from Britain
Irish Nationalists attempted to establish continuity with what they believed to be appropriate or
suitable aspects of Irish history and culture. These attempts lead to both the revival and invention of
a culturally distinct Irish heritage not associated with British rule in order to justify a sense of
nationhood and to support the Irish struggle for Independence (Hobsbawm in Laurence, A p176)
(Laurence, A p.160).
Whilst there is no single definition of Irish Nationalism, as the various groups and movements

the early government had little interest in preserving an Ireland associated with British rule. As did
the creation of the Ancient Monuments Act in 1929 which preserved and protected pre 1700

Whilst later efforts were made restore Dublin Castle and the transformation of Kilmainham hospital

restorations were not taken until after Ireland joined the European Union in 1973. These efforts
were again not un pragmatic as the early Irish government has little funds for restoration but the
timing is also significant and perhaps shows a coming to

Coronary Artery Disease Research Paper
Abstract
The heart is composed of four chambers, the right and left atrium and the right and left ventricles.
This important muscle is used to pump and create pressure to circulate blood throughout our
bodies2. It is important for our heart to properly function because it helps blood deliver important
nutrients and oxygen to the rest of our body. The heart is located in between the lungs (2/3 slightly
tilted to the left), in the central portion of the thorax2. The atria collect the blood versus the
ventricles which pump out the blood to the rest of the body. In order for the heart to properly
function is must also receive enough oxygen and proper electrical stimulus. The coronary arteries
are in charge of distributing adequate amounts of oxygen to the heart2. The heart s nodes help the
heart function with electrical impulses which allow the heart to contract. These are also known as
the pacemakers of the heart. Failure to properly function can result in a heart attack.

How the Increase of R Certified Movies is Impacting American Society Imagine a family walks
into a movie theater and is trying to figure out what movie they want to see; the mother wants to
see the hot new chick flick movie that is rated PG 13, the daughter wants to see the cute new
children s movie that is rated G, but the father has absolutely no interest in either and wants to go
see the exciting new R rated action movie. The family debates the issue at hand and analyzes
whether the R rated movie is appropriate for their daughter to watch. The first thing that must be
understood is what qualifies a movie for an R certification. This R certification can be issued
because of many different reasons for example; clear and convincing actively flowing blood (not
a puddle or a bit of red makeup on an actor), frequent use of vulgar language, nudity, and clear and
convincing drug use (Rebecca, 2010). To fully understand where the Motion Picture Association
of America comes from with their certifications, there must be some background knowledge of
the former certification system called the Hays Code. The Hays Code was implemented in 1930
and, while it may not be used anymore, inspired the Motion Picture Association of America s
certification system; the Hays Code is religion based, several of the ideas have been reformed
today, and moralistic in fact, one of the general principals is No picture shall be produced that will
lower the moral standards of those who see it. Hence the

Descriptive Essay On Hiking
Over the summer, my family and I drove up to Maine in order to visit my grandpa and relax. For
the past couple of years, my dad and I have planned a few days to go hiking. We got into hiking a
couple of years ago when we first discovered Tumbledown Mountain. After our first hike together,
we were entranced by the beauty of nature and peacefulness that we were eager to plan more. This
became a tradition because my dad and I rarely get to spend a lot of time together due to our busy
schedules.
When arriving at Tumbledown Mountain, I was surrounded by brown and reddish leaves that were
scattered on the ground. The trees around me were filled with luscious, vibrant, green leaves that
enchanted my eyes. In addition to the leaves and trees, there was a lot of moss growing on tree
stumps that looked like a small blanket covering an infant. Wild, white mushrooms were also
growing out of the ground, which gave the ground a pop of color. Taking a step out of the car
and onto the leaves, sounded like fire crackling at a camp fire. The sound of the leaves made the
hairs on my arm stick up and filled my skin with small goose bumps. At first the smell of the woods
was unfamiliar, but I soon got used to it and felt at ease. It felt like I was in my own fantasy
where I could escape my troubles and focus on each little detail in the woods.
The path leading up the mountain looked like a never ending hallway. With our hiking shoes and

that we utilize some of the resiliency builders including perceptiveness, being aware of exactly
what is happening, maintaining a sense of humor ( a recent physical move of an entire organization
into another work site has us labeling water fountains BHSI only and CBH only ...really?).
One of the strengths of this organization is also one of its weaknesses. We have a set criteria for
those that want to access our services, however during the recent economic crash we relaxed our

this change is most apparent surfaces after the bad guys left and the narrator was left plunged in the

intense story, Boyle has successfully integrated the elements of characterisation and setting to

The Political Forces Of Colombia
Colombia has been struggling with internal conflict for most of its 204 year history. Since the
late 1800s the main reason for conflict would be divisions between bipartisan political forces.
Bloody civil wars dot the history of Colombia but perhaps the most significant period in
Colombian violence would be the clash between the Colombian Liberal Party and the Colombian
Conservative Party in the 1940s. This would culminate into one of the bloodiest civil wars in the
country s history, which would simply be called La Violencia (The Violence). The Colombian
Liberal Party had maintained hegemony in Colombiathrough the 1930s and 40s, politically
sidelining the Colombian Conservative Party. The presidential elections of 1946, however, would
change this. Liberal candidates, Gabriel Turbay and Jorge EliГ©cer GaitГЎn, would split the vote
and, therefore, cause the victory of Mariano Ospina PГ©rez, a member of the conservative party.
The conservatives had suffered condemnation from the liberals since 1930 and now that the latter s
power had manifested in Colombia the tides would shift toward conservative retaliation. Peasants
armed by the Colombian Liberal Party sprung up in order to wage war on the government. This
marked the beginning of a notable rise in political resentment toward either party by their
counterpart. The catalyst that would spark the intense period of violence was the assassination of
Jorge EliГ©cer GaitГЎn, a wildly popular liberal presidential candidate who was

contamination and deliver the right amount of solution each time (John Husler: 1983).
The use of paper chromatography to separate plant pigments from spinach leaves worked very well.
The pigments were separated into five distinguishable groups and were then placed in solution. As
past experiments have shown, the most polar pigments would stay near the bottom of the paper,

did not have much variation in their absorbances. All pigments except pigment five were able to
absorb large amounts of light in the four hundred to five hundred nanometer ranges and then
increased absorbance slightly around six hundred sixty nanometers. The pigments had minimal
absorbance between the five hundred and six hundred sixty range. All of the pigments followed the
expected absorbances from Figure 7.13 in the laboratory manual except pigment one which is the
anthocyanidins. The absorbance values and graphs can be matched to the same pigments in a
similar experiment performed when separating carbohydrate groups through chromatography

would have been expected to transmit the ranges that it absorbed, and reflect those that were
transmitted. Chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotenoids, and xanthophylls all followed their

Flood Assessment
PURPOSE
The purpose of this report is to geologically evaluate the potential hazards for flooding in Hazard
City. This report will include a detailed historic and extrapolated Stream Gauge Data Worksheet, as
well as a graph of the Discharge Frequency Curve expected on Clearwater River. The report will
provide Hazard city with my scientific analysis, conclusions, and provide recommendations
concerning potential flood damages.
METHOLODOGY
The methodology used was to utilize the Recurrence Interval formula (R) = (N+1)/M, to determine
the recurrence interval and magnitude of historical floods provided on the Stream Gauge Data of
Peak Flood Discharges on Clearwater River in Hazard City. Also, I reviewed the flood insurance
map to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason for this scientific assumption is that the Downtown area, which is inundated with
impervious covered surfaces, will produce runoff, especially in the event of a flash flood, and will
meet in this same area along Clearwater River near Ralston (Keller, 2008, p. 269).
Information that was used to develop my conclusions were relative to the history of Clearwater
River such as the average normal discharge of 40,000cfs, the fact that the river can accommodate
55,000cfs before flooding will occur, and that with every increase of 2600cfs the river rises one
foot. For example, this information helped to determine that four of the thirteen noted Peak
Flood Discharges listed on the worksheet were not at flood stage as the river is able to
accommodate discharges less than 55,000cfs. However, nine of the thirteen Peak Flood
Discharges listed on the worksheet were at flood stage or drastically above; with the maximum
rise of 17.77 feet above and a discharge rate of 101,200cfs. The average discharge rate of the top
three noted floods per information on the Stream Gauge Data of Peak Flow Discharges is
93,613cfs, which is resourceful later in determining the extrapolated 75 year flood.
CITY COUNCIL CONCERNS
1. What is the recurrence interval of floods in Hazard City?
The average recurrence interval of floods in Hazard City is 1 in 7.14 years; with an average flood
discharge rate of 78,885cfs and a magnitude of 7. The typical flood in Hazard City

Price Variations Of A New Mobile Products
The above figure discloses that: Price variations of two products nearly share the same trend;
they all represent a declining trend. In the former 14 sessions, price variation is more flat; but
since then, the range of depreciation enlarges. Prices of mobile products always show a rather
wider range of declining no matter at former phase or latter phase. According to above analysis,
retailers begin to apply discounts to promote sales after new products are revealed as a new mobile

The Presidential Debate At Longwood University Essay
The Vice Presidential debate, held at Longwood University on October 4th, was between the
Democratic candidate, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, and Republican candidate, Indiana Governor Mike
Pence. Specific issues were asked about by the moderator, Elaine Quijano, such as specific qualities
of the candidates that would make them good leaders if tragedy were to occur. However, the
candidates used much of their allotted time to target the opposing presidential candidate and would
then interrupt their opponent multiple times throughout their answer. Comparing the citizenship
qualification of the United Statesto Germany may be helpful in solving the current immigration
problems facing our country. The Vice Presidential debate showed the differences in opinion on
immigration; the Republican campaign looks to build on the current enforcement only policies and
the Democratic campaign seeks to secure the country while attempting to help immigrants and their
families.
The Republican candidate, Donald Trump, has shown an openly negative opinion of immigration,
specifically of Muslims and Mexicans. The common remark people remember is Trump s
promise to build a massive border wall, which would be devastating to the economy. Mike Pence
focused his reply to the question of immigration on the safety of American citizens being the top
priority. He also stated that their party would suspend the Syrian refugee program because it is too
complicated to know if a person is associated with the Islamic

Pop art was a direct response to the commercial and consumer society of modern time . Explain
why this might be true.
Pop art was an art formed by artist expressing their views on modern day society. Pop art
originally emerged from England in the fifties; although it was not exploited in England, in fact
during the fifties it wasn t very well implemented. In the sixties, in New York, pop art began to
have a high prospective. Many artists soon realized that pop art could be expressed in a variety of
forms, this soon related to its commercial use. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1961 Roy Lichtenstein made use of the Ben Day dots . This was the first time an artist had used
this device. Lichtenstein exploited this and turned it into a signature for himself on his paintings of
cartoon characters.
Many Pop artists have attempted to and inspired an impersonal approach in to work trying not to
offend any community. Although in many circumstances pop artist did impose their own views in
their work, Pop artist took this opportunity to criticize society.
Quadrant 1982: The piece of art work on the left which Andy Warhol had created criticized the
way society is fixated on money. Warhol was an idealist. He had managed to survive W.W.II., he
realized the important values of life. The Quadrant symbolized how society had always been.
It shows the $ symbol in four different colors. This translated to people as different times but the
same agenda, money.
The Ben Day dots led the way for commercial use of pop art.
Lichtenstein used this to his advantage and exploited it. The Ben Day dots was an efficient use in
advertising. This device allowed unique paintings and large scale posters to be created. The more
striking pop art was created by Roy Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein manipulated the way we see day to
day objects and cartoon drawings.

his work. He often read comic magazines to be inspired for

The major attractions for tourists are the Sydney Aquarium and the Chinese Garden. According to
the video the total number of visitors in darling harbor last year was 27.9 million out of which 3.8
million visitors is on transit and the remaining 24.6 million are from interstate or overseas.
The location of the Radicor hotel attracts both business travelers as well as tourists. Considering the
number of visitors it is comprehensible that competition between hotels, cafes and restaurant would
be very high. Hotels have to go beyond excellence to attract customers as in such a location with so
varied visitors it is a challenge to meet the expectations of everyone and maintaining the customer
service level.
The Radicor Hotel takes pride in providing quality and excellence to its guests and stakeholders.
Marcus Vesty the world renowned chefruns the Abbey restaurant located on the ground floor of

Breeder s Own Pet Foods Case Summary
After receiving feedback from dog food brokers in the Boston, Massachusetts area, the executive
team at Breeder s Own Pet Foods, Inc. (BOPF), uncovered a market growth opportunity to market
and sell their primary brand of frozen dog food at the retail level. BOPF hired Marketing
Momentum Unlimited (MMU) to assist them in discovering whether it was in BOPF s best interest
to launch that brand in Boston as a test market.
Problem Identification Several problems were identified during the market assessment. One is
education, in that BOPF must find a way to educate consumers on where to find their brand of
frozen dog food. The three main types of dog food (dry, canned, and treats) are mainly found in the
dog food aisle, but BOPF s brand will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Biology And Reading Comprehension Exams
At the start and finish of a school year, a group of Italian third and fifth grade students with
diverse sociocultural levels underwent two studies in which their concurrent and predictive
validities of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) and Raven s Colored Progressive
Matrices (CPM) were investigated. The focus of the studies was on their math and reading
comprehension exams. The NNAT study is a nonverbal measure of general ability... intended to
assess cognitive ability independently of linguistic and cultural background. (1 Pearson) The
CPM study is also a nonverbal test but, conversely, it measures the subjects reasoning abilities.
These nonverbal studies were helpful in presenting meaningful data for forecasting the
academic performance of students with diverse sociocultural levels. The studied group consisted of
253 participants. The participants characteristics were the following: (1) their average age was 9.4
years (with a standard deviation of 1.1 years of age), (2) 130 were female and 123 were male, and
(3) 126 were in the third grade and 127 were in the fifth grade. Their Family Cultural Status (FCS)
characteristics were the following: (A) Low: consisting of 86 participants (34% of the total pool of
subjects) (1) their average age was 9.5 years (with a standard deviation of 1.0 years of age), (2) 38
were female and 48 were male, and (3) 39 were in the third grade and 47 were in the fifth grade; (B)

Values Is The Core Being Of Who You Are And Influences How...
Values are the core being of who you are and influences how you conduct yourself. Your values
are guidelines for making important decisions such as who to marry, what type of career to
pursue and the list goes on. Values are grown from the time you are an infant into adulthood and
do not change drastically, but can change in priority as you go through life. As Johnston (2014)
states, Much research indicates that while our attitudes and interests may change as a result of
life experiences our values remain relatively stable (p. 14). The only way we know what drives us
to do what we do are to stop and take a look at ourselves, take time to assess and hone in on those
things that are most important.
In taking the Distinguishing Your Values assessment, it is evident that the most important values
to me are working under pressure, variety, security and stability along with environment and
supervision. A clean, uncluttered environment at work is very important to me as it allows me to
work efficiently. Repetitive or monotonous work can be very boring and cause burnout which is
why variety is another value I appreciate. It helps to keep things balanced and interesting. Variety
also lends to cross training and allowing one to work more than one job area promoting growth
for each individual within a team. Moreover, it builds employees with a broader base of
experience to be a better asset to the company. Managers and peers have commented that I perform

Misconceptions Of Being Naturally-Exploring Organic Compounds
Organic sulfur is found in nature in trace quantities. Although MSM is a naturally occurring sulfur
compound, the microscopic amounts occurring naturally in food are too small for extraction to be
sufficient for commercial production.
In fact, all organic sulfur is a manufactured product. There are different manufacturing processes,
some better than others.
Contrary to some misconceptions, commercially available organic sulfur does not come from
wood, plants or fossil fuels.
You simply can t just squeeze organic sulfur from a tree, extract it from plants or remove it from
fossil fuels. Rather, a chemical reaction is required to make organic sulfur.
The most natural organic sulfur would be to mimic the formation, function, and structure

Simulation Based Teaching Of Fluid Balance Interpretation...
Simulation Based teaching of fluid balance interpretation and prescription of intravenous fluids
Problem Identification Interpretation of the fluid balance of hospitalized patients and prescription
of intravenous fluids is one of the core clinical skills required for the practice of medicine in
almost every specialty. Failure to follow the best practice guidelines can result in increased
morbidity and mortality in cases of under prescription, over prescription or from prescribing the
wrong type of fluids as highlighted in the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and
Death (NCEPOD) report about the perioperative mortality 1999. [1] The report emphasized on the
importance of fluid prescription and recommended that it should be considered as important as
drug prescription. National guidelines exist for the best practice regarding this matter where it
reports that about 20 % of patients receiving IV fluids suffer an unwanted effect , additionally
those guidelines are supported by local protocols within the individual NHS institutes. Moreover,
most trusts employ a NICE lead for the implementation of the fluid prescription guidelines in
addition to supervising an ongoing auditing process to evaluate local practices. [2]. Despite the
importance of the issue and the resources allocated to the topic; the task of fluid prescribing is often
left to the least trained members of staff to perform, such as the foundation trainees with very
limited training in the subject.

Compare And Contrast Hunger Games And Divergent
The Hunger Games and Divergent demonstrate an exaggerated view of the extremes, society has
come to, to minimise the drastic effects and repercussions that the present has caused this future
dystopian society.
Both the societies of THG and Divergent similarly tried to minimize the problems in their world.
This is the illusion of goodness, to the fact that they have solved all problems, they have used the
segregation of their people using physical boundaries, keeping their people divided or the
unknown away.As the mayor is recalling the events of the past, he says that The result was
Panem, a shining Capitol ringed by thirteen districts, which brought peace and prosperity to its
citizens. This uses a metaphor to emphasize and exaggerate that the shining Capitol is
surrounded and followed by the other separate 13 districts. With the illusion that Panem the
Capitol is the greatest and has saved them (the other districts) and shows how the land of Panem
has segregated their people, of high and low classes. While Beatrice is getting ready for her
aptitude test she says that it will help her choose ... which of the five factions I belong in. ... I
will decide the rest of my life; I will decide to stay with my family or to abandon them. The

Genetically Modified Foods Debate
Many consumers do not wish to eat food that has been dosed with pesticides because of the
possibility of health hazards. However, genetically modified foods are quite capable of helping
eliminating the utilization of harmful chemical pesticides. Due to this, many farmers choose and
prefer to plant biotech produce because of this benefit. In recent news, Sudan decided to take part
in planting a type of these crops, Bt cotton. The production of Bt cotton has led to a decrease in the
amount of insecticides used by 50%, reducing the risk of exposure to these chemicals. In China, the
use of Bt cotton has led to a reduction of 78,000 tons of pesticide which covers about a quarter of
what China has sprayed. (ISAAA, http://www.isaaa.org/resources/publications/briefs/44
/executivesummary/default.asp) Furthermore, the uses of these types of biotech crops allow a
reduction of risks associated with agricultural waste run offs. GMOs in these countries show how
they are beneficial especially for preventing environmental and human contact damage.
As the population on the world continues to increase rapidly, soon farmers will need to find a
way to grow crops in unsuited areas. This is where GMOs come in. A company, Dupont Pioneer,
released eight versions of its customarily bred Aquamax corn and found that it boosts yields up by
7% in drought conditions compared to regular grown corn. Additionally, interbreeding the
genetically modified food such as the Aquamax corn with ordinary corn can

  • 2. Examples Of Team Sensemaking Accordingly to Jensen (2009) sensemaking within a team is affected by the team s team process. The team process can be described as team members individual act that transform inputs into outcomes through cognitive, verbal and behavioral activities to organize work and achieve collective goals (Marks et al. 2001). Team sensemaking is defined as the process where a team manages and coordinates its efforts to explain and understand a situation and anticipate future situations, often during unclear conditions (Klein et al, 2010). Klein et al (2010) further argues that team sensemaking is not a new kind of sensemaking, it is rather the coordination of the team members when seeking data, synthesize the data and then disseminate inferences. Through co creation of knowledge and social negotiation of inferences, the outcome of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept is similarly defined as collective sensemaking by Albert and Hayes (2006) who define it as sensemaking by a group of individuals both in established and ad hoc situations who collaborates on a specific task or mission. The outcome of collective sensenmaking is similarly to the outcomes defined by Klein et al (2010) a shared awareness, knowledge, understanding and interaction between the collaborators (Albert Hayes, 2006). The concept of collective sensemaking will be explained in more detail in the next the section. Klein et al (2010) further argues that team sensemaking is a process that contributes to the larger process of team adaption. Klein et al (2010) developed a model on team adaption, using concepts on a similar team adaption model by Burke et al. (2006). The model by Klein et al (2010) of team adaption consists of three concepts for reaching operational success which is building a picture, building a plan and executing a plan. This paper will be based on the effect these regimes had on the social and economic standard of Congo. That is the focus will be on a timeline basis; how things evolved from the colonial era of Congo, to the post colonial era and to the status quo. My reason for choosing these topic is, Congo can be considered as developing state or under developed state depends on what your personal view of the criteria s that qualifies a state as a developing state or an underdeveloped state; unlike its western counterpart: example the United States, Great Britain and European states. Now the question is; could the under development of Congo be as a result in the poor leadership Congo have had in time past? Is Congo in the right part to archiving infrastructural development and increasing the social economic status? Can the present leaders do anything different to expedite development? Or are they moving at a good pace? These and more are questions that arises from a topic like this. By the end of this research paper, all the questions asked in the previous paragraphs will be answered, and also I will include some of my personal taught on what political modules Congo should adopt in order to foster its economy and social standard. The mountain is very beautiful, but during the storm it may look scary. The creature is can be beautiful through his acts of kindness, like helping people, but also is unattractive and can look and be grotesque. In the essay, Frankenstein and Mary Shelley s wet ungenial summer , Phillips states, Some of her descriptions were later incorporated into her novel. In another letter to her sister Fanny, on June 1st 1816, Mary wrote: The thunder storms that visit us are grander and more terrific than I have ever seen before. We watch them as they approach from the opposite side of the lake, observing the lightning play among the clouds in various parts of the heavens, and dart in jagged figures upon the heights of Jura, dark with the shadow of the overhanging could, while perhaps the sun is shining cheerily upon us. (Phillips 3) Many of Mary Shelley s ideas came from nature. A storm similar to this one was seen by victor. She uses this storm to describe how Victor sees the creature. Victor thinks the creature is violent at times and beautiful at others. In addition, the creature causes destruction like an avalanche. Shelley writes, In a thousand spots the traces of the winter avalanche may be perceived, where trees lie broken and strewed on the ground; some entirely destroyed, others bent, leaning upon the rocks of the mountain or transversely upon other trees. • 9. Summary Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine Louise Erdrich s book, Love Medicine is said to be an authentic narration when it comes to Native American life. This essay looks at the similarities between the love triangle that is depicted in Erdrich s novel, along with the male female relationships which are described in Ruth Landes ethnographic study of Ojibwe women and gender, which was first published in 1938 (Introduction). Parallels between the two books certainly exist. One is even able to substitute the characters of Nector Kashpaw, Marie Kashpaw, and Lulu Lamartine, into an almost identical situation in Landes book The OjibwaWoman, due to the similarities. Louise Erdrich herself is a recognized member of the Ojibwe tribe. She also runs an independent bookstore in Minnesota along with her daughters. The name of the bookstore is Birchbark Books; it specializes in Native American books, jewelry, and arts. Part of the description on the website reads Birchbark Books provides a locus for Native intellectual life. We are native owned (Louise Erdrich is an enrolled Turtle Mountain Chippewa) and our staff is of either Native background, or exceedingly Native friendly . Ruth Schlossberg Landes, author of the book The Ojibwa Woman is a cultural anthropologist from New York City. Landes received her B.C. from New York University along with her Master s degree in social work. Later, she earned her Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University. During the 1930s at the age of twenty three, as part of her doctoral studies, Landes traveled to Fort Frances, Ontario to research the lives of Ojibwa women. She pursued her studies aided by a woman of mixed Scotts Cree descent named Maggie Wilson. Wilson, who grew up amongst the Ojibwas was also known for her broad knowledge of Ojibwa customs and beliefs. Like other Native American groups, the Ojibwa were victims of colonization and systematic oppression. Much of their land was usurped by the government. In addition, many of the Ojibwa cultural traditions were banned or white washed. All these factors combined resulted in the marginalization of the tribe and the erosion of their culture. On account of Love Medicine being the title of Louise Erdrich s book, it makes sense, to begin with, its description as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Unconverted Self By Jonathan Boyarin Essay In The Unconverted Self, author Jonathan Boyarin reexamines the relationship between Christian Europe and the world around it, especially in the context of interreligious dialogue as a means of defining Christian identity. The common school of thought, as presented in this book, is that European identity reaches modernity after 1492 with the discovery of the radically different culture of Indigenous Americans (p. 9). Boyarin argues that this is untrue, as this belief operates under the incorrect assumption that the European people were a homogenous population (p.9). Instead, Boyarin seeks to move beyond the concept of two separate Europes, and proposes instead that this othering that was so critical to define Christian identity was already occurring in pre contact Europe (p. 1). For this, Boyarin looks to the Jewish and Muslim populations of Europe as a replacement for the Indigenous American peoples. He asserts that this sense of the other threatening Christendom existed far before 1492, and outlines the ways in which this conflict in religious dimensionality was vital to the formation of Christian identity. Boyarin s volume presents a concise read that reexamines existing scholarship and recontextualizes historical events to create a convincing argument, as well as provide questions for future scholarship to build upon. However, there were aspects in this book that were lacking, causing it to be an almost tedious read at parts. The Unconverted Self uses the history ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Gun Violence And Control Gun Control In The United States Humanity... All of my suffering on this world has been at the hands of humanity, particularly women. It has made me realize just how brutal and twisted humanity is as a species. All I ever wanted was to fit in and live a happy life amongst humanity, but I was cast out and rejected, forced to endure an existence of loneliness and insignificance, all because the females of the human species were incapable of seeing the value in me. This is the story of how I, Elliot Rodger, came to be. This is the story of my entire life. It is a dark story of sadness, anger, and hatred. It is a story of a war against cruel injustice...This tragedy did not have to happen. I didn t want things to turn out this way, but humanity forced my hand, and this story will explain why (Blum, Jaworski, 2016, p. 408). These were the words of Elliot Rodger before killing six people and injuring fourteen at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mass shootings have occurred with increasing regularity in the United States. Mass shootings are violent incidents that involve firearms with multiple people ending up dead or injured. In the United States, the subject of mass shootings inspires strong debates about various issues leading to such incidents such as guns, mental health, and media and how it influences violence. Night Shyamalan the main character David Dunn has a sharp intuition, better than average strength, and a natural immunity to getting injured or sick, rather than superpowers that his son and Elijah Price believe him to have. To begin with, David Dunn has honed his instincts to sense danger due to his current position as a security guard. From many years as a security guard, David has gained the ability to sense criminals. However, this is not a supernatural talent since one can guess who is a potential criminal by using stereotypes. For example, the man David assumed to have a gun was wearing a camouflage army jacket and people with that type of style are usually violent or like to show off. In addition, David could have smelt alcohol from the person in the army jacket. As for being able to guess the color of the gun handle, David himself said that he had a one out of two chance of guessing correctly and he could have gotten a glimpse of the gun when he turned around for a double take. But what people don t know that in many parts of the world abortion is a big part of their daily life choices. And by that, I mean that most people tend to have abortions, depending on the sexof their baby, because of their belief system. China and India are one of the major countries that prefer males over females because men are the ones that are always in power in the household and also they are the ones that tend to inherit the majority of the family s benefits. China has one of the highest abortion rates, along with that they have the lowest femalepopulation. Throughout my research, I ve learned a lot about sex selective abortion one of those things that it s traveling to other parts of the world. The reason I chose to write my report on sex selective abortion is that I saw a documentary called It s a Girl: The Three Deadliest Words in the World I found it to be intersecting since this was my first time ever hearing about. • 15. Historical Capitalism And The Context Of Historical... Over time, capitalism has become one of the most dynamic economic systems that have ever existed. Not only has it been successful in bringing the entire world into a solitary framework, it has also shifted the economic state, primarily focusing on maximizing profits for the owners. This is evident as presented throughout Frederick Engels Theoretical. Engels peers deeper into the fundamental context of capitalism; however, in order to do this, he must develop a better understanding of its inconsistencies and how it has impact the overall development of the world. The notion of historical materialismis addressed when further analyzing the overall context of capitalism. According to Engels, he argues that historical materialism starts from the principle that production, and with production the exchange of its products, is the basis of every social order... (Engels, 1959: 292). In simpler terms, historical materialism is a system of production and exchange which have always been the driving forces in social and political changes. It addresses that in every society, wealth is distributed and divided into classes or orders dependent upon what is produced, how it is produced, and how the products are exchanged (Engels, 1959: 292). However, Engels does not see historical societal changes independent of the economic system corresponding to it. • 16. The Outcome Of Two Major Railroad Strikes Identify and describe the outcome of two major Railroad Strikes. The two major Railroad Strikes were the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and Railroad Shop workers Strike of 1922. The Great Railroad Strike of 1877, was due to workers not being happy about the pay cuts that were being made by their employer so often. Northern Railroads began cutting salaries and wages. Because of various railroads cutting wages by 10% back to back, workers were not willing to continue working under those conditions. Not only were the wages of the workers being cut, the amount work of work given to the employees increased and the employer did not hire additional workers. This then caused railroad employees to respond by taking control of the rail yard switches, and blocking movement of trains. Throughout various cities such as Baltimore, Pittsburg, St. Louise, and Chicago, Violent acts began to occur. Many people died throughout the cities. The strike cause the country s commerce to become paralyzed and pushed governors in different states to utilize militia members to reopen rail traffic. This action also helped set the stage for violence that would occur later in the 1880s and 1890s. The Railroad Shop Workers Strike of 1922 affected everyone in the country. This strike occurred because of the pay cut of seven cents to the wages of the railroad workers. Approximately 400,000 rail shop workers from various unions were on strike because the cut was announced by the railroad labor board. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Trinity To Nazienzus Essay The Trinity to Nazienzus is absolutely essential in his Five Theological Orations, and in them he defines the Father is the Begetter and the Emitter; without passion of course, and without reference to time, and not in a corporeal manner. This means that though numerically distinct there is no severance of Essence. Christ is not subordinate to the Father, and the Holy Ghost is not subordinate to the Father or the Son; the Godhead is Triune in unity and is of the same substance. Even though the Holy Spirit and the Son are from [the Father], though not after Him, they still share the same essence as Him in the Trinity. This is an important distinction, because any part of the Godhead that has not existed for all time would not be Godby definition. He goes so far to say that the notion of Two Sons, one of God the Father, the other of the mother warrants the loss of adoption into God s Kingdom. God and man have two distinct natures, just as the body and the soul are two distinct natures, but there are not two sons or two gods in the person of Jesus. This is valid because it adheres to scripture, and because the alternative is heresy. There are plentiful examples of the divinity of God, one being John 8:58, where Jesus proclaims to the dismay of the Pharisees before Abraham was, I am, which caused them to try and stone Him for what they considered blasphemy. His humanity can be seen in Matthew 4:2 where He hungered after fasting for 40 days and nights, and in Mark 15:37 where the human person of Jesus died on the cross, even though his deity descended to Sheol. Proliferation Of Competitors New, vigorous competitors come from a variety of sources. A host of food categories have watched Weight Watchers and Healthy Choice enter their markets through brand extension strategies. In the snack category, Frito Lay has seen regional brands expand and Budweiser s Eagle brand break out of its niche to become a major competitor. New product forms that provide real alternatives for the customer have encroached the soft drink market, bottled water, carbonated water, fruit based drinks, and new age drinks, among others. Additional competitors not only contribute to price pressure and brand complexity, but also make it much harder to gain and hold a position. They leave fewer holes in the market to exploit and fewer implementation vehicles to own. Each brand tends to be positioned more narrowly, the target markets become smaller, and the non target market becomes larger. Efforts to market to a broad segment thus become more difficult in the face of the complex brandscape Further, some new or desperate competitors may be motivated to take risks or attempt unusual approaches. The result can be destabilization of the competitive dynamics. There is also an enhanced motivation to copy anything that is successful, in part because the risks of ... The painting illustrates the frigid winter air by using the white colors of the snow to cover the landscape. Proportion is used to portray the far distance at which the center village lies. The individuals in the painting are also larger in size than the animals to give a more realistic representation. The artist uses lines to create the edges of the farm building built of wood. Although painted with an astonishing level of realism, his use of proportion when painting the hands is disproportionally small and seem flattened. This illustrates how marriage back then did not require the presence of a priest or minister. The 3D German gothic Pieta made from polychromed wood was a disturbing sculpture. The heads of the Virgin Mary and Jesus are larger than their bodies. Anatomical details are exaggerated to emphasize the suffering Jesus endured. Repetition within the sculpture takes form in the flowers of the pedestal in which the Virgin Mary sits. These flowers contrast with the gruesome blood pouring from the body of Jesus. Summary Of Nature s Metropolis By Cronon In the novel Nature s Metropolis by William Cronon, the author examines the city of Chicago in the context of the environmental and economic factors that has made it a trade center. Additionally, the novel presents the case for a looser definition of nature in relationship to urban centers emphasizing the interconnectedness of both spaces and the role of environmental and anthropogenic factors in shaping them. Interconnectedness to the point that Cronon encourages readers to view the cityand hinterlands related to it as a multitude of overlapping market and resource regions (Cronon 278). • 26. The Death Tax and the Death of Family Farms Essay Relief from high inheritance taxes expires at the end of December, 2012. In the article A Storm of Estate Taxes Threatens Farm Country, Lynne Finnerty says that the new estate tax exemption will drop to one million dollars and the tax rate will increase to fifty five percent (Finnerty). Lowering the estate taxexemption while increasing the rate may consequently cause the liquidation of many multigenerational family farms and an ultimate decrease in the world s food supply. Comprehending the effect of estate taxes on farm families requires a general understanding of farm economics. In Illinois, for example, there are 76,000 farms and more than 28 million acres of farm land. Therefore, the average farm size is 368 acres, including... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Kill the Death Tax, the author states, The estate tax falls hardest on those who maintain a family business or farm. When the cost exceeds cash assets, the estate tax can force family business owners and farmers to sell in order to pay the tax ( Kill the Death Tax ). Unfortunately, there are journalists and politicians who attempt to convince the American public that this problem does not exist. Senator Bernie Sanders writes in Tax Code Must Stop Coddling the Rich, Some Republicans argue that eliminating the estate tax would save family farms and small businesses. Not true, though this argument has been tried before (Sanders). A simple analysis of farm economics proves that Senator Sanders is misleading the American public. In 2012, a 368 acre farm inheritance in Illinois would create an estate tax bill of $623,920. The same farm planted to corn, has the potential to generate an income of $17,664, which is obviously not enough cash to pay the tax. Therefore, the only solution may be to sell part of the farm ground in order to pay the tax, which could hinder the viability of the farming operation. In addition to bankrupting family farms, the mere existence of the death tax is unfair. Assets that are liable to estate taxes involve money that is being taxed for the second and sometimes third times. It taxes assets which have already been subject to the federal payroll, income and/or capital gains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Antoine Arnauld s Argument Analysis In objection to Descartes reasoning behind his attempt to establish that what is true, is clear and distinct perception, Antoine Arnauld argues his reasoning is circular. Before explaining why circularity is evident, I will first consider what Descartes truth rule really consists of. After establishing cogito ergo sum , Descartes uses the same logical terminology in which the cogito was established, to attempt to find other truths in the external world. However, as the is no causality between cogito and external truths, some further proof is required for Descartes. This is at the point Descartes introduces the argument for Gods existence and hence, we get the truthrule established. He argues that God exists and is not a deceiver, in which... In order for something to be certain, it must at least have duration in the mind. This means that even when not concentrated on, it is still knowledge with the potential to be certain. Some beliefs, on the other hand, can be certain without God s existence for their truth, but only for as long as they are concentrated on. Such beliefs are clear and distinct, and therefore true, when thought of and not dependent upon a non deceiving God that would assure us of their truth. Their truth is established by their being clear and distinct when concentrated on. The contradiction lies with what Descartes considers eternal truths , that geometrical facts, such as the area of a circle is equal to ПЂr^2, or the fact that three angles of a triangle are equal to two right angles, are all only true because of Gods existence and non deceptive nature. This with consideration to Descartes response to Arnauld, leaves up with the implication that an eternal truth is only true once we clearly and distinctly perceive it, and then not true, when the attentiveness of geometric truths leaves our mind; sounding like a ... This important muscle is used to pump and create pressure to circulate blood throughout our bodies2. It is important for our heart to properly function because it helps blood deliver important nutrients and oxygen to the rest of our body. The heart is located in between the lungs (2/3 slightly tilted to the left), in the central portion of the thorax2. The atria collect the blood versus the ventricles which pump out the blood to the rest of the body. In order for the heart to properly function is must also receive enough oxygen and proper electrical stimulus. • 42. Paper Chromatography Lab This experiment demonstrated the separation of pigments based on relative polarity and proved to be a substantial way to separate compounds. The results were much like that of an experiment performed, which separated carbohydrates in a very similar method with the use of paper chromatography (Inome, Y., Yamamoto, A.). Proper pipetting technique, which is described by John Husler, was also demonstrated in this experiment. The technique was followed as to prevent contamination and deliver the right amount of solution each time (John Husler: 1983). The use of paper chromatography to separate plant pigments from spinach leaves worked very well. The pigments were separated into five distinguishable groups and were then placed in solution. As past experiments have shown, the most polar pigments would stay near the bottom of the paper, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It showed us which wavelengths of light each pigment was able to absorb. However, the pigments did not have much variation in their absorbances. All pigments except pigment five were able to absorb large amounts of light in the four hundred to five hundred nanometer ranges and then increased absorbance slightly around six hundred sixty nanometers. The pigments had minimal absorbance between the five hundred and six hundred sixty range. All of the pigments followed the expected absorbances from Figure 7.13 in the laboratory manual except pigment one which is the anthocyanidins. The absorbance values and graphs can be matched to the same pigments in a similar experiment performed when separating carbohydrate groups through chromatography (Inome, Y., Yamamoto, A.). Since pigment one is supposed to reflect a blue or violet color, it would have been expected to transmit the ranges that it absorbed, and reflect those that were transmitted. • 43. Flood Assessment PURPOSE The purpose of this report is to geologically evaluate the potential hazards for flooding in Hazard City. This report will include a detailed historic and extrapolated Stream Gauge Data Worksheet, as well as a graph of the Discharge Frequency Curve expected on Clearwater River. The report will provide Hazard city with my scientific analysis, conclusions, and provide recommendations concerning potential flood damages. METHOLODOGY The methodology used was to utilize the Recurrence Interval formula (R) = (N+1)/M, to determine the recurrence interval and magnitude of historical floods provided on the Stream Gauge Data of Peak Flood Discharges on Clearwater River in Hazard City. Also, I reviewed the flood insurance map to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason for this scientific assumption is that the Downtown area, which is inundated with impervious covered surfaces, will produce runoff, especially in the event of a flash flood, and will meet in this same area along Clearwater River near Ralston (Keller, 2008, p. 269). Information that was used to develop my conclusions were relative to the history of Clearwater River such as the average normal discharge of 40,000cfs, the fact that the river can accommodate 55,000cfs before flooding will occur, and that with every increase of 2600cfs the river rises one foot. For example, this information helped to determine that four of the thirteen noted Peak Flood Discharges listed on the worksheet were not at flood stage as the river is able to accommodate discharges less than 55,000cfs. However, nine of the thirteen Peak Flood Discharges listed on the worksheet were at flood stage or drastically above; with the maximum rise of 17.77 feet above and a discharge rate of 101,200cfs. The average discharge rate of the top three noted floods per information on the Stream Gauge Data of Peak Flow Discharges is 93,613cfs, which is resourceful later in determining the extrapolated 75 year flood. CITY COUNCIL CONCERNS 1. What is the recurrence interval of floods in Hazard City? The average recurrence interval of floods in Hazard City is 1 in 7.14 years; with an average flood discharge rate of 78,885cfs and a magnitude of 7. The typical flood in Hazard City ... The Presidential Debate At Longwood University Essay The Vice Presidential debate, held at Longwood University on October 4th, was between the Democratic candidate, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, and Republican candidate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence. Specific issues were asked about by the moderator, Elaine Quijano, such as specific qualities of the candidates that would make them good leaders if tragedy were to occur. However, the candidates used much of their allotted time to target the opposing presidential candidate and would then interrupt their opponent multiple times throughout their answer. Comparing the citizenship qualification of the United Statesto Germany may be helpful in solving the current immigration problems facing our country. The Vice Presidential debate showed the differences in opinion on immigration; the Republican campaign looks to build on the current enforcement only policies and the Democratic campaign seeks to secure the country while attempting to help immigrants and their families. The Republican candidate, Donald Trump, has shown an openly negative opinion of immigration, specifically of Muslims and Mexicans. The common remark people remember is Trump s promise to build a massive border wall, which would be devastating to the economy. Mike Pence focused his reply to the question of immigration on the safety of American citizens being the top priority. • 50. Values Is The Core Being Of Who You Are And Influences How... Values are the core being of who you are and influences how you conduct yourself. Your values are guidelines for making important decisions such as who to marry, what type of career to pursue and the list goes on. Values are grown from the time you are an infant into adulthood and do not change drastically, but can change in priority as you go through life. As Johnston (2014) states, Much research indicates that while our attitudes and interests may change as a result of life experiences our values remain relatively stable (p. 14). The only way we know what drives us to do what we do are to stop and take a look at ourselves, take time to assess and hone in on those things that are most important. In taking the Distinguishing Your Values assessment, it is evident that the most important values to me are working under pressure, variety, security and stability along with environment and supervision. A clean, uncluttered environment at work is very important to me as it allows me to work efficiently. Repetitive or monotonous work can be very boring and cause burnout which is why variety is another value I appreciate. It helps to keep things balanced and interesting. Simulation Based teaching of fluid balance interpretation and prescription of intravenous fluids Problem Identification Interpretation of the fluid balance of hospitalized patients and prescription of intravenous fluids is one of the core clinical skills required for the practice of medicine in almost every specialty. Failure to follow the best practice guidelines can result in increased morbidity and mortality in cases of under prescription, over prescription or from prescribing the wrong type of fluids as highlighted in the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) report about the perioperative mortality 1999. [1] The report emphasized on the importance of fluid prescription and recommended that it should be considered as important as drug prescription. National guidelines exist for the best practice regarding this matter where it reports that about 20 % of patients receiving IV fluids suffer an unwanted effect , additionally those guidelines are supported by local protocols within the individual NHS institutes. Moreover, most trusts employ a NICE lead for the implementation of the fluid prescription guidelines in addition to supervising an ongoing auditing process to evaluate local practices. [2]. Despite the importance of the issue and the resources allocated to the topic; the task of fluid prescribing is often left to the least trained members of staff to perform, such as the foundation trainees with very limited training in the subject. ... However, genetically modified foods are quite capable of helping eliminating the utilization of harmful chemical pesticides. Due to this, many farmers choose and prefer to plant biotech produce because of this benefit. In recent news, Sudan decided to take part in planting a type of these crops, Bt cotton. The production of Bt cotton has led to a decrease in the amount of insecticides used by 50%, reducing the risk of exposure to these chemicals. In China, the use of Bt cotton has led to a reduction of 78,000 tons of pesticide which covers about a quarter of what China has sprayed. (ISAAA, http://www.isaaa.org/resources/publications/briefs/44 /executivesummary/default.asp) Furthermore, the uses of these types of biotech crops allow a reduction of risks associated with agricultural waste run offs. GMOs in these countries show how they are beneficial especially for preventing environmental and human contact damage. As the population on the world continues to increase rapidly, soon farmers will need to find a way to grow crops in unsuited areas. This is where GMOs come in.
