Stigmas, judgments, and misconceptions surround the newest generation of today s society,
cleverly named the millennials, like a virus. This particular generation is often subject to criticism
and even mockery, both justified and not justified. Similarly, the generation that is focused on in the
events of the novel Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis has been given the title of entitled. This conception
is shown through various characters and their respective developments, such as Jim, Dixon, and
Bertrand. As Amis develops these characters, we begin to see why their reputation is both justified
and not justified, and Amis leaves most of that interpretation open to the reader. Rather than forcing
character traits by explicitly telling the audience how each character thinks, he uses point of view
to open up major character decisions to the reader.
In order to look at the general feelings and actions of characters through the lens of entitlement, it is
important to define such a vague and often overused term. A TIME Magazine article, titled The Me
Me Me Generation, focuses on why millennials are the most narcissistic, self centered generation in
the history of western civilization. This attitude spreads not only among the upper and middle
classes but reaches as far as those living in poverty, who are selfish but for entirely different reasons

The Black Aesthetic is a form of cultural expression that solidified itself during the Black Arts
Movement that was meant to exemplify black pride and reformation, culture, and community.
Many works that arose out of the Black Arts Movement depicted the role and responsibilities of
the black artist. Ralph Ellison claimed in his essay, The World and the Jug that he did not want
to be seen as a Negro artist but rather just an artist. This was understandable because he wanted
to be known for his talent rather than as a figurehead for his people but since then, there has
been a lot of significant historical and cultural development to this argument. After The World

art, especially within the museum. Authenticity has some definite, and some more vague

In the University of Alabama s performance of A Chorus Line, the performers tackled this
infamous piece for its dramatizations of what actors and performers endure in the line of work
