Publishers want results—and it’s up to you to get them. In today’s world, your video needs to be in several places simultaneously, with great hooks bringing users back to your Web site. In this session you’ll learn how to become a hyper-syndicator, publishing your video to devices including cell phones, laptops, and televisions. Video publishing may start with an embed code, but so much more is possible—and this session will show you how to take advantage of the best opportunities available.
Podcasting: Get It Online — National Press Club PresentationRichard Harrington
What is a podcast and how can it help my organization reach people online?
At this month's "Get It Online" lunch discussion, learn what a podcast is and why both communicators and journalists are increasingly using them to successful reach niche audiences. This informative session will share secrets on creating professional looking video for podcasting and other video-sharing technologies.
Podcasting is another name for audio and video blogging. The general idea is that you post audio or video content that someone can subscribe to. You are essentially creating a channel, one that you add audio, video, or print content to so it can be automatically downloaded to a subscribers’ computer or media player. All of this can occur without the need for email blasts, people logging onto websites, or expensive shipping bills.
Additionally, podcasting is much more affordable than streaming and web video options. Podcasting uses a distributed model, so instead of everyone coming to your website and clicking (then wanting to watch the video at the same time), podcasts download in the background automatically. This means that podcasts are there, waiting to be watched whenever and wherever the consumer wants them.
At a Spectrum Leadership Institute session at ALA's annual conference in Anaheim, CA, research specialist Kathryn Zickuhr will discuss trends in technology access and use among various demographic groups, and what these changes might mean for libraries.
Director Lee Rainie gave a keynote at the NFAIS annual conference about the way the internet and mobile connectivity have transformed the worlds of networked individuals. He discussed how normal life has changed in the past decade because of three revolutions in technology: 1) the spread of broadband; 2) the rise of mobile connectivity; and 3) the emergence of technological social networks. He will discuss trends and likely future developments in technology that will shape the way people learn, share, and create information.
Using data from both the Infinite Dial study from Edison Research and Triton Digital and a separate study from the Research Moms at Edison Research, Moms and Media features points on social media behaviors and device ownership as well as how today’s technology applies to their children.
The report showcases new tracking data about social networking, smartphones, Internet usage and online audio. It highlights how smart speakers are working their way into moms’ repertoire, and how other media fits into their busy days. In addition, for the first time in Moms and Media, we explore how moms feel about children using technology and new media.
More than any other medium, the Internet is crucial for getting through even just a typical day. In Moms and Media 2018, we see just about every mom has Internet access. According to the research, 98% of moms have Internet access from any location, which means they can get online either at home, work, school or a library. Reinforcing the Internet’s importance, 70% of moms report that they get online in two or more locations.
