1. The Result of Repentance

Matt 18:23-34
A certain king, ask for an account update.
And he found one account that was 10,000 in arrears.
So, the king commanded this account holder and his family
be sold and payment be made.
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him,
saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with
compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his
fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he

2. laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay
me that thou owest.
29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and
besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will
pay thee all.
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison,
till he should pay the debt.
Word of this made it back to the merciful king.
32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto
him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt,
because thou desiredst me:
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy
fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the
tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
In 1223 Genghis Khan had expanded his Mongol
empire from China to the Black Sea.
Under the command of Subutai (sue-bhtai) they
readied for a third invasion of Georgia.

3. (A country at the intersection of Europe and Asia,
home to the Caucasus Mountains)
With a well-seasoned fighting force of 20,000,
Subutai, descended the Caucasus Mountains.
However, unlike the previous engagements with the
country of Georgia, and it’s king George IV, this time a
coalition force of 70,000 troops made up of five
armies met him.
At first the Mongols charged, but were repelled. The
coalition decided to hold their ground and wait for the
Mongols to die of starvation.
Low on supplies and unable to outmaneuver his
opponent, Subutai secretly sent bribes to the Kipchak
army (a Turkish nomadic people), who made up most
of the fighting force.
Subutai appealed to them as fellow nomads with
whom he had no quarrel.
In the middle of the night the Kipchaks left for home.

4. Subutai immediately charged the remaining troops
and defeated them.
However, he didn’t stop there, he ordered his
horsemen to chase after the Kipchaks, who were now
slowed in their retreat by the baggage train of
treasures he had given them as a bribe.
The Mongols slaughtered the Kipchaks as well and
expanded the Mongol empire to the border of Russia.
An unfaithful ally is destined to reap
what he has sown.

In our text Jeremiah understands Israel has been
unfaithful to their God and devastation has been
commanded. But unlike man, God will show goodness
to any individual who will seek Him in humility.

22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed,
because his compassions fail not.

5. The reoccurring theme in this chapter
is Hope,
we find it mentioned five times.
Lam 3:17-18 his hope had been in prosperity, when
that was gone so was his Hope.
Lam 3:21,24 in poverty he realized God was a greater
Hope than prosperity
Lam 3:26 because God’s salvation is so great it is a
Hope worth quietly waiting for.
Lam 3:29 he knows total submission to God,
regardless of circumstances, is the assurance of Godly
Hope
God offers three things to a humbly repentant man.
I. Relief- It is of the LORD'S mercies…
Ps 25:10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and
truth unto such as keep his covenant and his
testimonies.

6. Eph 2:4-5 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his
great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us
together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Jas 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first
pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be
intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without
partiality, and without hypocrisy.

the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be
cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
9 And I will bring the third part through the fire,
and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try
them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and
I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they
shall say, The LORD is my God.

7. Prov 17:3 The fining pot is for silver, and the
furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
Isa 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with
silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
Mal 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming?
and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is
like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
Mal 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of
silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge
them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the
LORD an offering in righteousness.
Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth
temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the
crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them
that love him.
1Pet 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much
more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it
be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and

Ps 86:15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of
compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and
plenteous in mercy and truth.
Ps 111:4 He hath made his wonderful works to be
remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of
compassion.
Mic 7:19 He will turn again, he will have
compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities;
and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the
sea.
Luke 15:20 And he arose, and came to his father. But
when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him,
and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck,
and kissed him.

9. Mal 3:16-17 16 Then they that feared the LORD
spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened,
and heard it, and a book of remembrance was
written before him for them that feared the LORD,
and that thought upon his name.
17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in
that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare
them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
God’s offer to a humbly repentant man is: Relief,
Refinement and Recognition.
“He Paid A Debt He Did Not Owe”
He paid a debt he did not owe
I owed a debt I could not pay
I needed someone to wash my sins away;
And now I sing a brand new song, “Amazing Grace”
Christ Jesus paidthe debt that I could never pay.
But he goes way beyond just paying our debt of
sin,
he gives us the Hope of becoming valuable for Him,
if we stay humble and pliable in his hands.
