How shall we sing the
LORD'S song in a strange
land
Text: Ps 137:4
4) How shall we sing the LORD'S
song in a strange land?
Here the theological mind meets the
crossroad of visual reality.
Ps 137:1-3
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat
down, yea,
we wept, when we remembered
Zion.
2) We hanged our harps upon the
willows in the midst thereof.
3) For there they that carried us
away captive required of us a
2. 2
song; and they that wasted us
required of us mirth, saying, Sing
us one of the songs of Zion.
Ps 137:4
4) How shall we sing the LORD'S
song in a strange land?
I. By seeing the way ahead is
the way forward.
Exod 14:10, 15
And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the
children of Israel lifted up their
eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians
marched after them; and they
were sore afraid: and the children
of Israel cried out unto the LORD.
Exod 14:15
3. 3
And the LORD said unto Moses,
Wherefore criest thou unto me?
speak unto the children of Israel,
that they go forward:
Ps 77:19-20
19) Thy way is in the sea,
and thy path in the great
waters, and thy footsteps are
not known.
20) Thou leddest thy people
like a flock by the hand of
Moses and Aaron.
Ps 137:4
4) How shall we sing the LORD'S
song in a strange land?
4. 4
II. By Seeing Pastmiracles as
probable for present
problems.
Mark 6:47-52
47) And when even was come, the
ship was in the midst of the sea, and he
alone on the land.
48) And he saw them toiling in
rowing; for the wind was contrary unto
them: and about the fourth watch of the
night he cometh unto them, walking
upon the sea, and would have passed
by them.
49) But when they saw him walking
upon the sea, they supposed it had been
a spirit, and cried out:
50) For they all saw him, and were
troubled. And immediately he talked
with them, and saith unto them, Be of
good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
5. 5
51) And he went up unto them into the
ship; and the wind ceased: and they
were sore amazed in themselves
beyond measure, and wondered.
52) For they considered not the
miracle of the loaves: for their heart
was hardened.
2Cor 10:5
5) Casting down imaginations,
and every high thing that exalteth
itself against the knowledge of
God, and bringing into captivity
every thought to the obedience of
Christ;
Ps 137:4
4) How shall we sing the LORD'S
song in a strange land?
6. 6
III. By reprimandingyour
human mind.
2Cor 1:8-10
8) For we would not, brethren, have
you ignorant of our trouble which
came to us in Asia, that we were
pressed out of measure, above strength,
insomuch that we despaired even of
life:
9) But we had the sentence of death in
ourselves, that we should not trust in
ourselves, but in God which raiseth the
dead:
10) Who delivered us from so great a
death, and doth deliver: in whom we
trust that he will yet deliver us;
Rom 12:2
2) And be not conformed to this
world: but be ye transformed by
7. 7
the renewing of your mind, that
ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will
of God.
Conclusion-
Only a mind superior to this world can
“sing the LORD’S song in a strange
land”.
Phil 2:5
5) Let this mind be in you, which was
also in Christ Jesus:
1Cor 2:16
8. 8
16) For who hath known the mind of
the Lord, that he may instruct him?
But we have the mind of Christ.
