- Because of the great discrepancy between the “ have ” and “ have-not ” nations of the world, this is often referred to as the North-South Gap
- The 20% of the world ’ s population that controls nearly 85% of the total wealth of the world lives almost exclusively in the industrialized nations of the Northern Hemisphere (in addition to Australia and New Zealand) However the POOREST 20 per cent of people in the world are concentrated in the southern hemisphere.
- The Northern countries have the majority of the wealth, the highest standard of living, and the greatest industrial development, BUT less of the population. In comparison, the Southern countries have the bulk of the population, BUT less wealth, standard of living, and far less industrial development.
