This is similar to the vice president who also serves as signed artists' liaison to the other departments at the label, making sure that arrangements are made for the recording of albums and that all accounting issues are handled in a timely manner. The A&R is the division of a record label that is responsible for talent scouting and the artistic and commercial development of the recording artist. Promotion spread the word on artists upcoming events so they gain publicity. Sales get people to buy merchandise and albums released by people signed for the record label.
