1) King Louis XIV wanted to kill the leader of the Jesuits, Aramis, and pursued Christine despite her being engaged to Raoul. 2) Aramis hatched a plan with two other musketeers, Athos and Porthos, to replace King Louis with his identical twin brother Philippe, who was imprisoned in the Iron Mask. 3) They succeeded in freeing Philippe and teaching him to impersonate the king. However, their attempt to make the switch at a masquerade ball failed. King Louis later imprisoned Philippe again with the Iron Mask.
