Previously, movie theaters had independently produced trailers for upcoming films. The National Screen Service, created by Herman Robbins, received and distributed films and their trailers to theaters from studios. Throughout this era, the film industry began developing and allowing more director interpretation. Stanley Kubrick redefined the idea of a trailer through his films. Steven Spielberg's Jaws became the largest film release in history due to Universal's large promotion budget across multiple platforms.
