2. THE CIVIL WAR EXILE

Spanish Civil War (1936-
1939) between
nationals and
republicans.

Finished with the victory
of Francisco Franco.

Between 1938 and 1939
the number of people
who wanted to exile from
Catalonia increased.

3. PASS OF MANRELLA

It was a route to the exile.

Situation: the Pyrenees.

Many important people took this way to the exile.

Famous artists: Pau Casals and Pablo Picasso.

Politicians: Lluís Companys and Manuel Azaña.

4. NEGRIN'S HOUSE

Built from 1937 to 1939.

When Juan Negrín was
the president.

To hide paintings of the
Prado museum and gold
from the Spanish bank.

The house was hidden to
avoid Franco's attack.

Nowadays it is
abandoned.

5. THE MUME

Exile Memorial Museum,
located in la Jonquera.

Space for memory,
history and critical
reflection.

Opened in 2008.

One of its aims is treating
the exile
as a global phenomenon.

Exiles were common in
Europe in the XXth
century.


Officialy known as the
Deffensive Organization
of the Pyrenees.

It takes 500 km from the
Cape of Creus
to the Basque country.

Built between 1943 and
1950.

Composed by nearly
5000 bunkers.

The bunkers were never
operative.
