A 3-hour workshop was held at the Evening High School of Aigaleo on November 17th, 2016 regarding the use of historic photographs and other visual materials in studying European History. The workshop featured presentations by history teachers on using visual sources and a student presentation titled "A picture is worth a thousand words" where 10 students presented moments from Greek and European history through photographs. Photographs provide important windows into the past both for their aesthetic qualities and the data within, and when used with other sources can provide a balanced look at history not possible through words alone.

Teachers from Italy and Croatia attended the second Transnational Meeting for the Erasmus+ READ in Europe project in Hvar, Croatia. They defined the calendar and activities for the second project year, including student exchanges between partner countries in October, March, and April to focus on creative writing and interviewing authors. The teachers also participated in writing and team-building workshops led by a local writer, toured historical sites on Hvar Island, and experienced the cultural heritage, food, and landscapes of the area.

Margaret Atwood hands over the inaugural manuscript for «Scribbler Moon».
Atwoods´s contribution to the project was celebrated in a special two-part event: a public walk through the Future Library Forest in Oslo, and an in-conversation with the artist Katie Paterson held in the Deichmanske Library. In addition to the conversation, Atwood and Paterson also did a interactiv book signing for the 50 first who signed up.
About the project:
Scottish artist Katie Paterson has launched a 100-year artwork - Future Library - Framtidsbiblioteket - for the city of Oslo in Norway. The prizewinning author, poet, essayist and literary critic Margaret Atwood has been named as the first writer to contribute to the project.
A thousand trees have been planted in Nordmarka, a forest just outside Oslo, which will supply paper for a special anthology of books to be printed in one hundred years time. Between now and then, one writer every year will contribute a text, with the writings held in trust, unpublished, until 2114. Tending the forest and ensuring its preservation for the 100-year duration of the artwork finds a conceptual counterpoint in the invitation extended to each writer: to conceive and produce a work in the hopes of finding a receptive reader in an unknown future.

Six employees from Drammensbiblioteket visited the joint library Sambiblioteket in Härnösand, Sweden on November 5-6, 2012 as part of a culture development project. They toured the facilities including the entrance, info desk, adapted literature section, newspaper area, and various rooms on the upper floors. The success of Sambiblioteket was attributed to consensus on the joint library concept, flexibility in space and staff use, and the partnership providing creativity. The visit was inspiring and important for understanding joint libraries and continuing development at Drammensbiblioteket.

UW Microbiology Research Paper on Biofilm Formation in P. aeruginosa
This document summarizes research on the role of phenazines, specifically pyocyanin, as an electron transporter in Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms. Studies show that pyocyanin can cycle between oxidized and reduced states, transferring electrons from NADH and allowing Pseudomonas to survive in low-oxygen environments. Research also found that pyocyanin production increased and intracellular NADH levels decreased under low oxygen conditions. Additional experiments demonstrated that pyocyanin overexpression led to more robust biofilm colonies, while pyocyanin knockout mutants generated less developed colonies. UW Microbiology Research Paper on Biofilm Formation in P. aeruginosa

Capturing the semantics of documentary evidence for humanities research
Identifying and curating documentary evidence from textual corpora is an essential part of empirical research in the humanities.
Initially, we discuss "themed" evidence - traces of a fact or situation relevant to a theme of interest and focus on the problem of identifying them in texts. To that end, we combine statistical NLP, background knowledge, and Semantic Web technologies in a hybrid approach. We illustrate the method's effectiveness in a case study of a database of evidence of experiences of listening to music. We also evidence its generality by testing it on a different use case in the digital humanities.
Finally, we ponder the applicability of knowledge extraction techniques to automatically populate a database of documentary evidence and discuss the challenges from the point of view of scientific knowledge acquisition.

Museums and libraries were established as repositories of memory, initially as rarity-cabinets and archives by rich collectors in the 16th century. These resulted in the museum and library archives as public institutions of the 18th century with a mission to educate their visitors (Dilevko 2004). During the 19th century the past was defined as the product of “intellectual enactment and study” (Benett, 2004, p.2). Today, the use of Virtual Reality (VR) applications in Archaeology and Museology and the ever-increasing development of interactive software and new technological platforms have provided museum and library archives and historical collections with a new space of contact to their users. In other words, Museums, libraries and institutions of memory have been challenged to find new forms of dialogue with their users and have turned to VR technology to entertain and inform their audience.

There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
