Dyadic PsychologyDyadic Psychology
• Social Psychology is concerned with how humans think about
each other and how they relate to each other. …it involves the
formal study of social behavior and the mental processes that
pertain to such social behavior.
• ..Clinical Social Psychologists study topics such as social
influences on individual behavior (e.g. belief formation,
attitudes, stereotypes, persuasion, conformity, etc…) Also,
Social Cognition integrates Social and Cognitive Psychology in
order to help discover how people process, remember, and
clarify/or distort social mores, e.g., the psychopathology or
sociopathology of ‘unequally yoked.’
• …In a specialty Social Psychology, such as, clinicians in
Dyadic Psychology,… the focus of their research is on
controlled dynamics that is pertinent to understanding the
nature of successful, lasting coupleships, egalitarian
communication styles, in the ‘Equally Yoked’ or ‘unequally
yoked’, and self-esteem, etc.

““Dyads”Dyads”
• Math – dyads are binary relations.
• Chemistry – dyads are bivalent elements.
• Biology – …is a double chromosome from meiosis.
• Dyadic Psychology:…Dyadic-a pair + Study of mind
– Equally yoked couples who share the same ‘civil identity’
and are said to pair or pair-off (verbs), normally a male
and female bonding for the purpose of making and rearing
children. However, to couple-up means to become at best
engaged and marrying just to have sex. Clinically, if
twosomes have been verified as ‘equally yoked’ mates,
then they're sometimes called a mated equally yoked pair
or, in clinical research science, just an ‘equally yoked’
dyad.(41)
- Liberal Arts and Humanities -- Liberal Arts and Humanities -
““Equally Yoked”Equally Yoked”
• “Equally” …alike…or the same.. i.e., to
the same degree of (as with a ‘like’ or
‘the same’ “civil identity” or a
premarital/or marital couple).
• “Yoked” ……attached to do work…
enjoined together.. …more figuratively,
to do (relationship) work… united
together in the work of a marriage.. …
especially with a mutual “civil
identity” ..as ‘One’ (a coupleship) (7)

““Coupling-Up”Coupling-Up”
“UnequallyokedUnequallyoked”
• Deviant social
mores.
• Perverse motives.
• Diverse ‘civil
identities’ for
aberrant
coupling-up.
“EquallyokedEquallyoked”
• The very same
civil identity – a
social mores.
• Nearly equal or
very similar civil
identities.
• Abiding in ‘true’
family values for
extending family
lineage.
“In-equallyokedIn-equallyoked”
• Incestual
relationships-with
a marital outcome.
• Enmeshed
distance family
relationships.
• Maybe 1st
or 2nd
cousins resulting in
marriage.

Bible Counseling
• One on campus study asked students who were
clearly ‘equally yoked’ (and ‘unequally yoked’):
“…do you spend a specific amount of time in exploring,
investigating, and considering faith, spirituality, and
beliefs?”
The ‘unequally yoked’ spent less time than the ‘equally
yoked’ couples identified in the study.
PrayerPrayer
• A campus survey inquired of ‘equally yoked’ (and
‘unequally yoked’) student - couples:
“…do you pray, contemplate spiritual concepts, and
meditate throughout the week?”
The ‘equally yoked’ couples‘ seemed to be more
involved in prayer, contemplation, and meditation,
the survey results suggested.
-RLGNS 101
Bible Counseling
FellowshipFellowship
• When campus interviews about ‘fellowship’ were
conducted - the ‘equally yoked’ couples scored about
the same as ‘unequally yoked’ couples :
“…The interview asked: do you attend events, get-
togethers, and events together? ”
The ‘equally yoked’ couples‘ and ‘unequally yoked’
were scored and the results that were recorded more
even. Because the interviewers choose couples ‘on
campus’ as well as those ‘off campus’ and suggested
that further studies need to be conducted.

MentorshipMentorship
• A small study on campus investigated whether
‘equally yoked’ couples or ‘unequally yoked’ student
(and those living out in the community) members
were being mentored:
“…do you have spiritual mentors, pastoral teachers of
discipleship, or marital role models for your faith as a
‘couple’?”
The ‘equally yoked’ couples‘ proved to be were more
involved in working with a pastor, ministrial leader,
or marriage mentors.

• Another campus survey inquired of ‘equally yoked’
(vs ‘unequally yoked’) student - couples:
“…do you pray, contemplate spiritual concepts, and
meditate throughout the week?”
The ‘equally yoked’ couples‘ were more involved in
prayer, contemplation, and meditation, the survey
results suggested.

“…“…by God’s …grace…”by God’s …grace…”
• “…the finding/meeting and enjoining of
couples who comprise an ‘equally yoked’
coupleship is completed only by the power of
God’s love, the principle of reciprosity, and
grace…”
