three occasions for prostitution in the last 2 years. Tiffani has recently been court
ordered to reside in a group home with counseling. She has a continued desire to be

Family Dynamics: Tiffani indicates that her family worked well together until 8 years
ago. She reports that around the age of 8, she remembered being awakened by
music and laughter in the early hours of the morning. When she went downstairs to
investigate, she saw her parents and her Uncle Nate passing a pipe back and forth
between them. She remembered asking them what they were doing and her mother

on several occasions. Tiffani also recalls significant changes in the home's
appearance. The home, which was never fancy, was always neat and tidy. During
this time, however, dust would gather around the house, dishes would pile up in the
sink, dirt would remain on the floor, and clothes would go for long periods of time
without being washed. Tiffani began cleaning her own clothes and making meals for
herself and her sister. Often there was not enough food to feed everyone, and Tiffani
and her sister would go to bed hungry. Tiffani believed she was responsible for
helping her mom so that her mom did not get so overwhelmed. She thought that if
she took care of the home and her sister, maybe that would help mom return to the
person she was before.
Sometimes Tiffani and her sister would come downstairs in the morning to find empty
beer cans and liquor bottles on the kitchen table along with a crack pipe. Her parents
would be in the bedroom, and Tiffani and her sister would leave the house and go to
school by themselves. The music and noise downstairs continued for the next 6
years, which escalated to screams and shouting and sounds of people fighting.
Tiffani remembers her mom one morning yelling at her dad to “get up and go to
work.” Tiffani and Diana saw their ...

This book is dedicated to my parents who made the utmost sacrifice and supported me in my journey to the United States at the age of 15. Without my two loving parents I would not be where I am today; a tenured High School History Teacher working in the most impoverished neighborhood in New York City, the South Bronx, where I help students that dropped out of high school achieve their goal and receive a high school diploma. The reason that I feel like I am in the right place for my job is because just like these "lost" students, I was going through a tough transition myself as I left my impoverished 3rd world country and decided to embark on a journey by myself across the ocean for a better opportunity. The toughest students are sometimes the best ones because they either have a goal in mind and they want to succeed, or they are not ready and are very honest with themselves and their teacher and decided that education is not in their cards at that moment of time. I feel that these students are marginalized from society because of their socioeconomic status and it is important that they realize that there is light at the end of tunnel, just like for me my parents decided to leave their pretty cushy jobs to try and support me and my brother in the United States. That is why I decided to publish this book, to show that in each of one there is hope for a better future and we must take in account that life will not always be easy and will throw unexpected moments our way.

WALMART SCENE
(It’s quiet and crowded)
(We hear loud voices in the distance)
(We’re on the bread isle. There are quite a few people on the isle. On the far left shelf there’s bread and on the far right there are little Debbie snack cakes and goodies, this is center. Directly across from the bread are the frozen pizzas and other frozen food items.)
(A woman in her early 40’s is searching for the right bread to buy.)
(She is wearing a nice pair of jeans with a black and white striped shirt and UGG boots because it’s cold outside.)
(She is having a conversation with her daughter quietly when all of a sudden her daughter starts speaking louder.)
DAUGHER
But, please?
(She groans anxiously)
MOM
(She glances at her daughter in annoyance)
NO! And I mean no.
(She begins reading the bread labels)
DAUGHTER
But mom, it’ll only take a…. (Mom interrupts)
MOM
(She drops the bread and immediately turns to her daughter)
N.O. NO means no! I don’t care how unfair you think it is I’m not letting you!
DAUGHTER
(She pauses)
(She groans)
You always do this mom! Every time we go somewhere you never let me leave from under your arm! When are you going to let me grow up?!
(Both voices continue to get louder)
MOM
Don’t get that attitude with me young lady or I’ll whoop you right here in front of all of these people!
(Everyone is staring at the two)
DAUGHTER
Oh, that’ll make you look like mom of the year. Wouldn’t it?! I’m not a child anymore!
MOM
Stop! You’re making a scene!
(She grabs her daughters arm)
That’s it we are leaving and I’m telling your father!
(Suddenly it seems as if time has stopped. Everyone has stopped what they
were doing and are just staring at the two arguing)
DAUGHTER
I don’t care. The hell will he do? He’s probably cheating on you anyways. If I were him I know I would!
(a longer pause)
(Everyone is in awe)
MOM
(she looks shocked and upset)
Th-That’s it! I’ve had it with your mouth! You’re grounded! Keep your mouth shut and don’t say anything else to me. I don’t know what’s wrong with you. Let’s go!! NOW!!
(They both walk away, the mother pushing the cart, leaving the bread behind, ashamed and embarrassed they walk with their heads down and fail to make eye contact)

3. The Dancers is a
story/drama written by Alberto
S.Florentino Jr. It is all about a typical
Filipino family composed of
Father, Mother and Children or Siblings.
It is a story of a poor family who
struggles in the harshness of poverty.
Because of poverty, Mang Tomas (the
father) wants his youngest daughter-
Nenita to join her sister Rita and make a
living at a young age as a club dancer.
The older brother –Tony does not
approve to his father’s decision and the
youngest sibling –Juanito seems
become submissive and no longer argue
with them. As well as their Mother does
not approve to her husband’s
decision, but then Mang Tomas
persistently insist because for him he
has the right and he has the authority to
decide for his daughters being their
father.
6. Mang Tomas (static)

PSYCHOLOGICAL:
• A high-handed Father.
• An idle husband/ Father.
• A wicked Father/husband.
• Selfish
• Disrespectful
• Useless.
• Sinful.
MORAL:
• Mang Tomas is not a good example to his family. He is immoral by tolerating his
daughters to dance at the club/salon even to go with the Chinese. He seems right for
himself even he is not, he doesn’t know how to listen to his son and wife.
(static because from the start to end of the drama/dialogue his character as a father insisting
his family to send his daughter Nenita to the salon/club was still the same and he was
victorious in sending his daughter at the salon/club at the end of the drama.)
7. Mother (static)
PHYSICAL:
• She is a woman.
• An old woman.
• Wife of Mang Tomas.
• Her heart gets weaker and weaker everyday.
• Age (didn’t mention in the story).
SOCIAL:
• Market vendor.
• From a poor family.
• Catholic (affiliation).
PSYCHOLOGICAL:
• An industrious mother.
• A very loving mother.
• Religious
• A devoted Mother.
• Caring.
MORAL:
She is a good wife to her husband and a good Mother to her
siblings. She always praying for their safety and praying to
give them strength everyday. She always worry about her
