4. THE UGLY DUCKLING
SCENE 1
NARRATOR: It´s a beautiful summer day …. the sun shine warmly on an old house
near a river.
MOTHER DUCK: I´m happy because my babies will be born.
(When suddenly she hears a sound “tchick, tchick, tchipk”)
LITTLE DUCK: (Cuak, cuak, cuak) Mommy, mommy, mommy …..
MOTHER DUCK: (Surprised) One of my babies is not born yet.
LITTLE DUCK: Mommy looks ….
MOTHER DUCK: (Very anxious) What happens?
LITTLE DUCK: Ohh…. What an ugly duck!
MOTHER DUCK: Shut up. He is beautiful too.
SCENE 2
NARRATOR: The next day mother duck takes all her little ducks to the river.
MOTHER DUCK: Come on! Let´s go to the farm yard.
LITTLE DUCK: No mommy. I don´t want to go there.
MOTHER DUCK: Ohh…. We have to baby, we need to go to the farm so I can present
you to some friends.
LITTLE DUCK: (She´s complaining) No …. Uhmm, uhmm, uhmm.
UGLY DUCKLING: (The ugly duckling swims faster than her sister. He returns to talk
to her) Let´s go sister. I want to meet new friends.
LITTLE DUCK: I don´t talk to ugly ducks ….. Uggg, uggg, uggg.
UGLY DUCKLING: (Very sad) Why do you treat me like this? You are my sister.
LITTLE DUCK: Noooo. You are very ugly. You can not be our brother.
MOTHER DUCK: (Very angry) Please, be quiet. You can not bully your brother.
5. SCENE 3
NARRATOR: The farm yard is very noisy.
MOTHER DUCK: (Very happy) Look at my beautiful babies.
(Speak louder) Rooster, hen, pig and farmer come here and look of
them.
(Very enthusiastic) Children introduce yourself.
NARRATOR: The mother duck moves away to greet the rest of her friends on the
farm.
LITTLE DUCK: My name is pretty duckling 1.
UGLY DUCKLING: I´m pretty duckling 2.
HEN: (She peaks the ugly duckling) Really, pretty? You are very ugly.
ROOSTER: (He flies over the ugly duckling) I agree with my wife.
PIG: (She bites the ugly duckling) You are the ugliest duck I´ve ever seen.
FARMER: (He kicks the ugly duckling) I don´t want ugly ducks in my farm.
UGLY DUCKLING: (Alone) I´m very sad. Nobody wants me, nobody loves me.
SCENE 4
NARRATOR: At last one day the ugly duckling decides to run away. He comes by a
river and start crying when a wise frog ask him.
FROG:Why are you crying?
UGLY DUCKLING: (He is crying) Because I´m ugly and nobody loves me.
FROG: Why do you think you´re ugly? Beauty is inside you and not in your physical
appearance.
UGLY DUCKLING: (He is crying) But nobody think like that. Everyone hates me
because I´m ugly.
FROG: Little duck, concentrate on the positive. You must have a special ability which
differentiates you from the rest.
6. UGLY DUCKLING: (Stop crying) Well …. I swim very fast, faster than my sister.
FROG: Well, then! You must practice that so you can improve and feel proud of
yourself. You could even participate in the Animal Olympics.
UGLY DUCKLING: (Very interested) Really?
FROG: Of course, I´ll train you if you like ….
UGLY DUCKLING: (Very happy) Thank you, Mr. Frog!
NARRATOR: After a long and hard training the little duck, could swim like any other
animal and he decided to enroll in the Animal Olympics.
SCENE 5
NARRATOR: Mom duck was so sad because she realized that her ugly duckling had
running away and asked to her other child ….
MOTHER DUCK: (Very anxious) Have you find your brother already?
LITTLE DUCK: I asked the rooster and the hen but they didn´t know anything.
MOTHER DUCK: (Very sad) So, what can we do?
LITTLE DUCK: But, I asked the pig and she told me that he is living with Mr. Frog!. I
think he´s going to participate in a speed competition.
MOTHER DUCK: (Very happy) We must go! I miss him very much …..
LITTLE DUCK: Yeah, I do too.
7. SCENE 6
NARRATOR: It was the day of the competition, every single animal on the area was
present. The racers were preparing and the ugly duckling was too until…
MOTHER DUCK: (Very excited) My son!
UGLY DUCKLING: (Very surprised) Mom! What are you doing here?
MOTHER DUCK: I was very worried. Why did you leave me and your sister?
UGLY DUCKLING: (Very sad) It’s just… You never loved me.
MOTHERDUCK:(Very angry) What are you saying? Ofcourse we love you…Right girl?
LITTLE DUCK: (Very ashamed) Yes, we love you, brother.
MOTHER DUCK: You can see…. I told you.
LITTLE DUCK: Come home.
MOTHER DUCK: You see? Come home with us.
UGLY DUCKLING: But, mother, I have to do this race. I have practiced a lot.
MOTHER DUCK: (Very happy) Ok, my son. But remember it doesn’t matter if you win
or lose. We are proud of you already. We love you.
THE END …..
