The Constitution!
1. Executive Branch:Headed by the
president. The president carries
out federal laws and recommends
new ones, directs national
defense and foreign policy, and
performs ceremonial duties.
Powers include directing
government, commanding the Armed
Forces, dealing with
international powers, acting as
chief law enforcement officer,
and vetoing laws.
Legislative Branch:Headed
by Congress, which includes
the House of Representatives
and the Senate. The main task
of these two bodies is to make
the laws. Its powers include
passing laws, originating
spending bills (House),
impeaching officials (Senate),
and approving treaties
(Senate).
Judicial Branch: Headed by the
Supreme Court. Its powers include
interpreting the Constitution,
reviewing laws, and deciding
cases involving states' rights.
THE THREE BRANCHES
OF GOVERNMENT
2. The system of checks and
balances
With checks and balances, each of the three branches of government can limit the
powers of the others. Each branch “checks” the power of the other branches to make
sure that the power is balanced between them. This can benefit because, since they
all have equal power, one branch cant make an incredibly unreasonable descicion.
Congress may pass laws........but the President can veto them.
The President can veto laws.......but Congress can override the veto with a 2/3 vote.
The President and Congress may agree on a law..........but the Supreme Court can declare a law
unconsitutional.
The President can appoint Judges and other government officials.......but Senate must approve
them.
Supreme Court judges have life terms.......but they can be impeached .

national government and left much
of the power with the States.

This document can be even more
improved!! We will add a Bill of
Rights also!! The rights will
include:
Right to bear arms!
Jury Trials!
Eminent Domain!
Many more!!
