The Negative Effects Of Homework
Have you ever been overly stressed or stayed up all night because of homework? Well according to
Dr. Craig Canapari, sleep deprivation and severe stress in students is caused by early school start times
and heavy homework amounts. This not only affects teenagers, but it is also an issue for younger
children. 90% of teenagers are sleep deprived, which can have various consequences pertaining to
their health, safety and overall well being. About 15% of teenage students have over 2 hours of
homework per night, some even having 3, 4 or even 5 HOURS OF HOMEWORK! I recently sent out
a survey to my classmates and I discovered that 36.8% of my classmates were spending an hours to an
hour and a half on homework. I also found out that 31.6% of them were spending 2 hours or more on
their homework, which is more than the recommended amount for children our age. Some may think
this is helpful to their academic career, but it can actually be very detrimental. In fact, students can
stay up doing homework for so long that they become sleep deprived and when you are sleep
deprived, it becomes very challenging to retain information. So really, when students are doing hours
of homework and aren t retaining any information because of sleep deprivation, every single benefit
that a homework assignment may have to offer is lost! Many people believe that homework is helpful,
not harmful, but this is a lie. In fact, there is not much evidence to suggest that homework for students

Mobile Phones Is The Identity Of A User Essay
EXISTING PRODUCT Since the origin of Mobile phones, the only thing that has not developed
much in mobile phones is the SIM card i.e. Subscriber Identity Module Card. It is a device which has
user identity, network authorization data, personal security keys, contact lists and text messages.
Functionality of the SIM card: Identification of a User: The International Mobile Subscriber Identity
programmed on the SIM card, is the identity of a user, which is linked to a mobile number.
Authentication of a User: A unique response is provided by each user based on International Mobile
Subscriber Identity. By matching this response with network a legal user is logged on to the network
and he or she can now use the services of the mobile service provider. Applications: Provides basic
information on demand for m commerce, chatting, cell broadcast, phonebook backup, location based
services etc. Storage: To store phone numbers and SMS. The first SIM cards were the size of credit
cards, then the telecom companies reduced the size several times over the years. SIM Card History
However, they have not made any significant efforts to avoid it, which is resulting in increased size as
well as weight of mobile phones. And it can be clearly seen that, the size of integrated circuit in SIM
card is still the same even after 25 years of its discovery. Environmental Impacts because of product
use and end of life phases were evaluated as follows: Previously, the SIM cards were made from

Disadvantages Of Phonology
INTRODUCTION
In India the current scenario is changing very fast, it is absolutely critical that every child has the
fullest opportunities to become an accomplished reader. It is important that every member of society
should able to read and write. Without these skills, a person will have to face enormous social,
personal, and economic limitations in today s complex and information flooded world. In the current
situation, demands for accurate reading writing skills are greater now than at any previous time in
history.
Phonology, broadly speaking, is that sub discipline within linguistics concerned with the sounds of
language . More narrowly , phonology proper is concerned with the function, behaviour and
organisation of sounds as linguistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of reading development has different levels of phonological awareness within words:
syllables, onsets and rimes, and sounds. Good readers look for familiar letter patterns as one strategy
when attempting to decode or spell unfamiliar words they use familiar sound chunks from known
words, not just individual sounds (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981). Thomas Gunning 1974
reported that students look for pronounceable word parts .This chunking / grouping of sounds makes
the reading and writing process much more effective and efficient. This letter pattern learning is based
on familiar syllable or rhyme patterns as well as sound clusters and individual sounds. This ability
helps child to find out inside words for syllables, rhymes, and individual sounds. Child has to
segment, blend, and manipulate syllables, onset and rime, and sounds of a particular word; this ability
makes the child successful in using letter sound knowledge effectively for reading and writing
(Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981; Maclean, Bryant, Bradley, 1987). The phonological
awareness skills of segmenting and blending are the most highly correlated with beginning reading
acquisition (Snow 192).
Students who may be at risk for reading difficulty often have poorer levels of phonological awareness
than others (Stanovitch Cunningham, Cramer, 1984). Although related, phonemic awareness is
different from auditory discrimination, phonetics, and phonics. The young child has the ability to
notice, mentally grab hold of, and manipulate different sound smallest chunks of speech (Hodges
Harris, 1995; Tunmer, Herriman, Nesdale, 1988; Yaden Templeton,

Connotation In My Papa s Waltz
The waltz, originated from areas of Vienna and the alpine region of Usually, a waltz is an elegant,
ballroom dance. Most of the time, people just revolve in circles with one step per beat. The boy in this
story misunderstands that the waltz he is in is positive, but in reality, it isn t even close to a positive
waltz.
Theodore Roetheke uses connotation throughout the poem, My Papa s Waltz to evoke a negative
feeling and make us feel sorry for the boy because of how confused he is by the situation he is in.
Theodore Roetheke says in his poem, The whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy, but i

the fact that his dad is a drunkard

Theme Of Stigma In Tennessee Williams
Tennessee Williams (1911 1983) is one of the most highly known American dramatists of the
twentieth century. He has depicted several protagonists who are discriminated against and deals with
the issues of stigma.
What is stigma? According to Cambridge Dictionary, stigma is when people disapprove of something,
especially when this is unfair, and to treat someone or something unfairly by disapproving of them. In
the plays of Tennessee Williams the members of stigmatized groups violate the norms established by
the dominant group and, as such, are marked by the resulting social stigma. These members of
stigmatized groups may be called the marked and the ones who stigmatize, may be referred to as the
markers. Marked individuals are diminished, blemished, or imperfect in the eyes of others with far
reaching results which dehumanizes them. Stigmatized characters by Williams differ from the
privileged characters he created in terms of appearance as well as behavior. In The Glass Menagerie, A
Streetcar Named Desire Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Summer and Smoke and Suddenly Last Summer
Williams characters are discriminated against and easily identifiable as the Marked.

Aesthetics, what is beautiful or appealing, plays an important role. In general, less physically
attractive people are more likely to be stigmatized in the plays. One reliable indicator of physical
attractiveness is facial symmetry, or the degree to which the left and right sides of the face are mirror
images of each other. Williams sketches characters after characters with facial disfigurement that do
not meet this standard and are likely to be stigmatized. He portrays the American culture, in which
slimness is emphasized and overweight people become the targets of discrimination. Similarly, a
central component of the old age stereotype is a decline in physical attractiveness and mobility which

Of The Rate Of Reaction Of Peroxydisulfate Ion With Iodide...
The objective of this experiment is to be able to measure the rate of reaction of peroxydisulfate ion
with iodide ion. Students will be allowed to calculate the reaction order, partial order and rate constant
of four different reaction solution. Furthermore, observe and record the time when the color changes
when KI solution (potassium iodide), starch solution, Na2S2O3 solution (sodium thoisulfate), KNO3
solution (Potassium nitrate) and EDTA solution is mixed in an Erlenmeyer flask. Measuring a reaction
rate is not only significant to this experiment or chemistry but also in real life. For example, according

The Characters Of Education In Atticus Finch And Bob Ewell
During the Great Depression in the 1930 s over twelve million people were unemployed causing
people to become poor and homeless. The Great Depression affected those who had education and
worsened the living conditions for those who were less educated. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird,
Harper Lee compares two completely different people, Atticus Finch and Bob Ewell to display how
education affected different social castes in society. In the 1930 s the Great Depression came along as
a tragic era making education forgotten as America faced other issues. At this time, Atticus, a white
man and a father of two kids strives to portray an example of how important education is in a time of
struggle. On the other hand the character Bob Ewell is, a white man, is poor and extremely ignorant to
the value education and believes it has no effect on society. Atticus and Bob are men of different
beliefs and values. [Through the characterization of Atticus Finch and Bob Ewell the readers can
believe compassion is reached through education, which a man with compassion and education for
their community can lead to humanity.] Atticus is a well educated man as he demonstrates outstanding
habits through his actions. After, Scout asks why Atticus is defending Tom Robinson he say, For a
number of reasons, the main one is, if I didn t I couldn t hold up my head in town, I couldn t represent
this county in the legislature, I couldn t even tell you or Jem not to do something again. [...] Scout,
simply by the nature of the work, every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him
personally. This one s mine, I guess (Lee 56). Atticus, a man of great knowledge proves how respected
he is in Maycomb County. He points out that only men with knowledge and education are able to take
on a big responsible such as the one he is given. The purpose of this quote is to signify the importance
of education and how it lead him to such a high position in society. Compared to Bob Ewell, Atticus
contains the sification of how to action in times of importance. This affects the way people view
Atticus because now he s accepted and known as The Lawyer for Tom Robinson. For example, after
scout tells Atticus she doesn t want

Beowulf Positive Impact
To numerous people a hero is a person with supernatural gifts and great gallantry. It is someone that
would save lives and help make the world a better place like Superman for example. A list of these
mainstream heroes can extended a mile long, however, that is not the case in reality. Real world heroes
are seen much differently from fictional characters. People are labeled heroes based on two words:
positive impact. They are looked up to because they have helped a community or even a single person.
It can be anything from being a mentor for kids in need to going to battle for a country. The oldest
story in the English language told about a man, a hero, whose name was Beowulf. Similarly, there is a
woman, a real hero, whose name was Erin Gruwell. Although these people are from two completely
different time periods, they have both made positive impact. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sexuality In Media Analysis
Sexualization of females has always been a problem. Many of the commercials from the 60 s to the
2000 s depict women as nothing more than sexual beings to sell a product. We often see commercials
that deal nothing with the topic of sex use it as a means of a way to sell products. In my presentation I
used two videos one with Paris HIlton and the other with Scarlett Johannson. They each are
advertising two well known companies one fast food restaurant and the other a well known appliance.
In my essay I will explain how sexuality in media affects adolescents, the percentage between men
and women being sexualized and the affect it has on young girls. Although many of the women who

Saying Farewell To A Faithful Pal Analysis
Animals in Human Society Change in our lives is based off internal and external forces. Everyone
enjoys company with a friend like a pet that make changes interesting and significant. Every new
experience can make a person change; sometimes the change is negative, other times it is positive;
either way, there is no avoiding change. Animals are unpredictable, protective, and helpful in our
everyday lives. In the memoir on, Saying Farewell to a Faithful Pal, John Grogan shares how animals
can be odd and unpredictable. Marley was a chewer of couches, a slasher of screens, a slinger of
drool, a tipper of trash cans (Grogan,pg 150, pp 6). This made the owner s life more interesting and
exquisitely hard. The author had to deal with a dog with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He leaped all over me, he cursed and growled, snarled and screamed( Steinbeck, pg 146, pp3). This
cause the author to be surprised that his calm dog can protect him from wild bears. Being protective
can be helpful in an everyday standard. In the autobiography ,Dogs Make Us Human, from Animals in
Translation, by Temple Grandin and Catherine Johnson. Max had trained himself to monitor his
mistress s blood sugar levels even while she was asleep (Grandin, pg 154, pp 5). This tells that pet can
be helpful in a certain way without the help of a human or a trainer. This showed that Max really cared
about his owner s health. Animals are everywhere to help in human society. Having a pet is really
unpredictable, but that can be helpful to an owner that can keep them safe. The story is this essay tells
reasons how animals impact our live in a negative and positive way, they are not only part they are
family that help us through life. Like today there are animals that help people through tough times like
ESA dogs (Emotional Support Animal) that help kids get over their fear of dogs. We are now in a
society that depend on animals as much as animal depend on

Passover In Jewish Culture
Passover is, without a doubt, one of the most sacred holidays in Jewish culture, and in this reflection
paper, I will take a look at the history of Passover and other important Jewish holy days, then I will go
over how attaining my first Passover affected me. The holy day, know as Passover, has its origins in
Exodus 12, which tells the story of how the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt by the Pharaoh who had
begone to fear them, because of how fast their numbers were increasing. So, after several years of
slavery and oppression, God made Himself known to a man named Moses. God instructs Moses to go
tell the Pharaoh to let God s people go free. The Pharaoh of course refuses. So, God strikes the people
of Egypt with ten different plagues. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this section of the paper, I would like to go over how Passover is celebrated today. For some Jews,
the celebrations last for seven or eight days. Many Jewish families clean their houses thoroughly
during this time to remove all traces of leaven. In many Jewish homes, the children can take part in a
special search for any leftover leaven. On the evening right before the Passover begins, Jews have a
special service called a Seder. Seder takes place over a meal with family and friends in the home. The
Seder plate is made up of a lamb shank, a roasted egg, a green vegetable to dip in salt water, some
bitter herbs and horseradish, and a paste of chopped apples, walnuts, and

The Ancient Greek Gods

Ancient Greeks used the big three Gods to explain the weather, ocean, and death work. This paper
describes the stories of the lesser known gods and goddesses. Dionysus Dionysus is the Greek god of
Wine. Dionysus was not a god when he was first created he was a mere mortal demigod which is half

Effects Of The Silver Bow Creek Copper
Copper is another pollutant that at very high levels is toxic and can cause vomiting, diarrhea, loss of
strength or, for serious exposure, cirrhosis of the liver (Pure Water Services). In order for copper to
metabolized the heavy metal zinc is needed. Zinc helps with copper breakdown but too much zinc can
cause a copper deficiency which can also cause problems such as anemia. While copper has some
severe side effects there have not been any cases that are related to cancer. In most cases throughout
the Silver Bow Creek copper is not thought to be a severe threat to the community.

As people began to realize the damage done by the pollution of the environment nearly fifty years had
passed. By this time the contaminated tailings and toxins released from the smelters and chemical
treatment facilities had reached an outrageous numbers. With the help of the great flood of 1908 these
pollutants covered the Silver Bow creek banks from Butte all the way to the Milltown Dam. In 1911
the Anaconda Company began extensive cleanup efforts by implementing the use of warm springs
ponds as a water treatment facility (Citizens Technical Environmental Committee, 4). These ponds
were developed initially with the thought that they would be able to catch polluted tailings before they
were able to reach the Clark Fork River. There was an estimated 2,400 acres of warm springs ponds
built between the years of 1911 and 1959 (Citizens Technical Environmental Committee, 4). The
settling ponds were created to hold the mining wastes, acting as a dam so that the metals did not end
up in the Clark Fork River. The tailings are then covered over with lime to prevent them from leeching
back into the environment. This series of warm springs ponds provides treatment to the water in such
a way that the environment can cleanse the water of pollutants on its own instead. This treatment
method is accomplished with the water being further cleansed as it is transferred from pond to pond.

The Case Of Ehrlich Coker
On December 5, 1971, Ehrlich Coker was to have allegedly raped and stabbed a young woman to
death. Less than a year later, he kidnapped and raped a sixteen year old female. There was an
additional victim in which he tortured the young woman and abandoned her in a wooded area. After
his apprehension, Mr. Coker pled guilty to the offenses. He was sentenced by three separate courts to
three life terms, two 20 year terms, and one 8 year term of imprisonment (Brody Acker, 2010, p. 57).
While Mr. Coker was serving his sentences at the Ware Correctional Institution, he escaped the facility
on September 2, 1974. On the evening of his escape, he is to have allegedly broken into the home of
Allen and Elnita Carver and held the couple hostage. During this altercation, Mr. Coker is thought to
have committed the act of rape against Mrs. Carver and abducted her from the home, utilizing the
couple s car. Mr. Carver was able to free himself and notify law enforcement. The car, along with Mrs.
Carve and Mr. Coker was located. Due to the events that occurred on this particular day, Mr. Coker
was charged with escape, armed robbery, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping and rape (Brody Acker,
2010, p.54). During Mr. Coker s trial on his new charges, his defense argued that their client was

is a naturally calling that transcends both education and standard conformity. The only authority
deserving one s allegiance is that which is freely and knowingly granted to the led by the leader in
response to, and in proportion to the clearly evident servant nature of the leader (Greenleaf, 2002). In

The Engineer s High Privilege
Former US President and mining engineer Herbert Hoover summed up the engineering field as a
calling when he wrote, Engineering is a great profession. There is a fascination of watching a figment
of the imagination merge through the aid of science to a plan on paper. Then it moves to realization in
stone or metal or energy. Then it brings jobs and homes... Then it elevates the standards of living and
adds to the comforts of life. That is the engineer s high privilege. Although, this interpretation from
Hoover is a great representation to the definition of engineering, the highest priority should stem from
the glorification of God, the Creator. Utilizing such God given gifts and transforming creation into an
image of new, should be done to exemplify Him and give to the greater good of society (Matthew
5:16, Jeremiah 29:7).
We are witnesses to great benefits to mankind stemming from contemporary engineering development
, according to the Bulletin of Engineers. They further cite that nuclear and space age that we live in,
encourage the vigorous progress of science. And human technologies are developing very fast.
Mechanization, automation and computerization of production processes have lessened the hazards to
human physical integrity, but in spite of that state the Engineers, man s psychic and moral integrity in

Sleep Apne The Cessation Of Respiratory Airflow
Apnea is defined as the cessation of respiratory airflow. Sleep Apnea is a growing disorder affecting
children and adults without discrimination to age, gender, race or sex. There are three main categories
of apnea: central, obstructive, and mixed. Although there are many forms of sleeping disorders Central
Sleep Apnea(CSA) is classified to be a less common sleeping disorder characterized by life threating
health conditions not limited to death if not diagnosed in a timely fashion and treated to prevent or
reduce the symptoms that cause the apnea threshold Pac02 levels to increase or decrease with
cessation of airflow during sleep. Central sleep apnea can increase the risk stroke, diabetes, obesity,
and high blood pressure. Only ten to fifteen percent people with sleep disordered breathing are
classified as having Central Sleep Apnea. Common sign and symptoms of Central Sleep Apnea
include trouble staying awake, shortness of breath, abnormal breathing patterns during sleep, and
sudden awakenings coupled with shortness of breath. Central Sleep Apnea occurs when there is a
decline in respiratory effort and as a result of inadequate medullary responsiveness or poor muscle
coordination for breathing. Central sleep apnea can be split into more than one main category
depending on the underlying conditions that contribute to the specific disorder. Depending on which
type of central sleep apnea a person has, a doctor will recommend therapy, medications, or surgery to

Animal Domestication History
Looking back at the history of animal domestication, dogs were the one of the first animals to be
victimized. Evidence dates back to about 15,000 years ago. Even in the early ages, dogs were deemed
as sincere guardians and hunters. They have played a vital role in the history of warfare starting from
ancient times.
Dogs were used by Egyptians, Persians, Slavs, Romans and Greeks. The Molossus dog was thought to

The hind legs are firm and bulky whereas the front legs are relaxed and flexible. This permits faster

as 35,000 hertz. One of the essential qualities that dogs have is their loyalty. They are always
defending and protecting their handlers. Working dogs possess the ability to detect change in the
environment and react to it accordingly. The are able to detect those changes that human beings are
unable to, making them more efficient and reliable. They are trained to act as an alarm for any sort of
incoming danger. Patrol dogs are aggressive dogs that attack the provoker and relentlessly bark to
warn the people nearby. Explosive dogs have an acute sense of smell and hence are trained to
differentiate between the various explosives and drugs. The tradition of use of military dogs is still
alive in the modern world. As of 2011, 600 police dogs took part in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Juvenile Competency to Stand Trial Essay
Juvenile Competency to Stand Trial The Supreme Court has long considered competency to be a right
of the criminal defendant in court. In many areas, insanity has been a criminal defense with a
significant history. However, in the early part of this century, adult protections, including the
competency requirement and common defenses like insanity, were not added into the juvenile court
system. Because juvenile courts were established to protect juveniles from the rigors of adult court
and punishments in adult facilities, states focused on achieving proceedings more compatible with
juveniles needs. Over the last decade, many state legislatures have offered better options and
procedures for handling delinquent juveniles. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, they can understand that defendants are charged with offenses and that the consequences
can be serious. Also, it is around this age when youths think of a right as belonging to them, and that
they can waive it or use it. The big question is their ability to deal with abstract legal concepts that are
grasped by most adults. Even at ages 14 to 16, only ¼ of youths described a right as an entitlement.
For example, when a police officer says to an arrested juvenile, you have the right to remain silent,
groups of youths described it as, you can be silent unless you are told to talk, or you have to be quiet
unless you are spoken to. Age by itself is a bad indicator of whether youths have reached an adult
level of knowledge of the legal process. Juveniles have various types of thinking and emotional
disabilities; thus, it takes them longer to reach their adult like potential. Also, many courts and many
people believe that youths that have been repeatedly arrested and exposed to court trials have a better
understanding of legal matters. Current research does not support this. Some juveniles will definitely
learn from these experiences and may even become advanced in the understanding of the trial process;
others will learn nothing at all. Therefore, just because a youthful offender is a repeated one, it does
not mean that he/she will understand the trial process and his or

Business Rules and Business Intelligence
Business Intelligence projects start out as a simple report or request for an extract of data. Once the
base data is aggregated then the next request usually is about summing data or creating more reports
that have different views to the data sets. Before long complex logic comes into play and the metrics
coming out of the system are very important to many corporate wide citizens. Centrally managed
business rules enable BI projects to draw from the business know how of a company and to work with
consistent sets of business logic – they are what add the intelligence to business intelligence. (pg14)
Once reports are no longer a straightforward representation of base data they begin to depend more
and more on business rules. The term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to achieve a consistent business definition across an organization the individual departments
need to share and become aware of how this data can heavily influence what they know to be true and
how other interpret what is true. It helps to drive consistency by encoding business logic and can be
defined as a specialized version of business rules. According to the article only 20% of organizations
practice MDM as a separate solution. (pg15)
An independent business logic component should look like a set of rules that are shared among
departments that directly interface with the business users and IT systems, eliminating the need for
developers to write programming code. Experts call such a thing a business rules engine but there
different schools of thought on the term. Some people think that it is a software application that can be
used to capture to business know how and can interpret operational data to gain insight. Others think
that it resembles something akin to AI (artificial intelligence) or expert systems that interpret the
implications of business rules on a set of data. Whatever method is chosen as path forward it is
important that businesspeople can review the existing rules and make modifications to a rules engine.
The rules should be documented and formulated in a natural language (language that a plain speaking
business person can understand) so that a business

Gender Inequality In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Sexuality over Centuries
And though she be but little, she is fierce (3.2 335). This was said in A Midsummer Night s Dream.
This represents the life women have of being perceived as small, objects, and as pointless. But as the
time has gone by, women have proved to be a fierce as the Presidents of the United States. When it
comes to looking at women and how they have been interpreted, the one question I have has to be why
Shakespeare was against the female gander. He was a man who was raised in the 16th century so he
has seen the roughness the women have to bear. He seen deal with men having numerous rights, the
feeling of cross dressing to get what they desire, and also fight for their own individual rights.
Looking into Shakespeare s work and interpreting his meaning behind the treatment of women, there
are many forms that take place from feminist actions to the appearance that is showing women,
including men, living on their daily lives.
Women in the 16th century lived a life greatly different than the women of today. The normal
occupation for women at the time was marriage and motherhood (McDonald 253). The women lived a
very rough life with only two basic tasks, they only cleaned the house and took care of ... Show more

Sex Crimes And The Law Essay
The topic that we talked about in the class, Sex Crimes and the Law that really interested me was the
topic of rape. After having the guest speaker that was a Temple student really bothered me and I
thought about it for days. For starters, I think it is absolutely scary that she was rapped on Temple
University s campus, to be exact in Peabody hall and absolutely nothing was done to help her. This is
bothering me the most because I am a Temple student, this happened in her own room, no one helped
her, and her rapist is still out there. I feel horrible that no one even tried to help and most people even
made it seem like it was her fault by saying things such as you know you wanted it . No one wants to
be rapped and the victim should never be to blame. This poor girl tried to kill herself multiple times. I
believe that no one should go through this trauma alone or even go through it at all. Since our guest
speaker, I have gone on a binge of watching Law Order: SVU and even through about becoming a
special victim unit detective for my career. Another reason that the topic of rapped bothered me was
because just recently one of my friends came out and said that she was raped by her boyfriend. No one
even knew this happened until she made it public on Facebook. For the longest time she was drawn
back and really did not hang out with the group and now I know why. The guest speaker really helped
me to understand, just to be there for her. When she wants to talk she will and not

The core arguments of Hershey Company in this case are very clearly stated. Senator Steve Hershey
used their company s Trade Dress on multiple campaign signs for multiple elections. In 2002, Mr.
Hershey was running for commissioner of Queen Anne s County in Maryland. He used a design for
his campaign that looked very similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper. The background was
brown, the lettering was white, and the font was bolded in all capital letters. In 2010, Steve Hershey
used a design that looked even more similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper than the one he had
used previously. This campaign sign had a brown background, white bolded font, all capital letters,
and included a white border. In 2014, Steve Hershey used a campaign logo with a two toned brown
Maryland flag background, his last name in all capital bolded letters, similar font, and underneath
read, state senate. Despite having the same name, Steve Hershey is not affiliated with The Hershey
Company in any way. The Hershey Company believed that Steve Hershey s use of their Trade Dress
could cause confusion amongst the general public. When the Hershey Company contacted Steve
Hershey for the first time in 2002, they wrote him a letter asking him to stop using the Hershey s
Trade Dress. In 2010, The Hershey Company contacted Mr. Hershey again and urged him to stop

Great Anthropocene Essay
A Great Anthropocene or a Utopia
An Eco modernist manifesto states that we need a good Anthropocene, which demands that humans
use their growing social, economic, and technological powers to make life better for people, stabilize
the climate, and protect the natural world (Page 7). In order to protect the natural world, we should
stay away from nature and give more land back to the nature world, instead of letting human society
goes along with nature in harmony. The new technologies would allow us to achieve much more from
a limited amount of land. Thus, humans have the opportunity to re wild and re green the Earth (Page
14) and will achieve a great Anthropocene.
I also deeply love and emotionally connected to the natural world, and I really hope what the
manifesto proposed could come true. I agree that by using new technologies, we can make what
impossible become possible, we can be more efficient, and we can allowing more room for non human
species (Page 18). However, I doubt that would happen, though I believe it could. First, it s not easy to
access these new technologies. Currently, they are not as cheap as the author described. Second, when
the new technologies fail, they might bring more significant disaster to the nature world. Third,
whether we can achieve a great anthropocene is more a humanity issue that a technology issue in my
view.

The Pentacle is an amulet, or talisman, that is disk shaped and inscribed with a pentagram. To be clear,
the pentacle is a pentagram with a circle around it. If the shape differs in any way, meaning the
pentagram is surrounded by anything but a circle, and if the shape inside the circle is not a pentagram,
then it is not a pentacle. The pentacle is a five pointed star surrounded by a circle. The points represent
the elements, and is often used in ceremonial magick for evoking spirits, protection during rituals, and
spells. The Pentacle is used as an altar tool, or worn as a piece of jewelry for protection. It is one of
four elemental tools; the chalice, athame, and wand that practitioners of witchcraft use when creating
rituals and spells. The Pentacle is generally found in the middle of most altars, objects such as crystals
or tools may be placed on it to be consecrated and charged. Rich in history, the Pentacles oldest known

Latino Gender And Gender Diversity
In 2013, Latinos accounted for only 4.9% of the roles in the top 100 films of the year. From the
beginning, Hollywood had always been dominated by white men and women. However, as time
progressed there was a very slight change in cultural and ethnic diversity. Though it is more likely
now than ever to find a Latino or Latina in a Hollywood film, their roles are often small, stereotypical,
and almost entirely unimportant. As if it wasn t hard enough to get any role in any Hollywood film
regardless of ethnicity, Latinos have to endure playing a harshly demeaning role. Latino men are often
cast as comedic relief and play gardeners, janitors, or thugs. Latino women are often cast as maids or
mistresses. Aside from this, when women are cast as mistresses they are often submissive to their
white male partners, meaning that not only are these roles ethnically demeaning, but also sexist. Along
with Latino female sexualisation, though, Latino men are also heavily sexualized. Both Latino women
and men have to deal with the exploitation of their culture for stereotypical roles in a movie. However,
these are only some of the vicious patterns that attribute to the everlasting ethnic misrepresentation in
the biggest part of mass media, Hollywood.
Latinos are some of the main consumers of pretty much any media. They re the ethnic group that visit
movie theaters most and they invest so much of their time and money to keep media outlets such as

War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells Essay example
War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
Homo Superior?
War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells is a fiction story written about war and mankind s coming of age. It
is also a philosophical novel with many deep meanings underlying the shallow looking one hundred
eighty eight page book.
The subject of this novel is Science Fiction and there are not many that can even compete with Wells
in terms of how superior his word descriptions are. He simply does wonders with the imagination of
the reader.
Obviously the whole book is about the struggle mankind faces, but it is not always with aliens, they
are actually more of a good way to represent what Wells really believed. He believed man is
dominant, yet should remember how big the universe is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case the setting is perfect on account of the humans having a small sense of hope in their
machinery, but not enough technology to really compete.
Characters are not a big part of this book. The main one, who never reveals his name, is the only one
who in fact does not always go with the craziness of the public. He does have his moments of running
away screaming and hiding, but he learns more about himself, mankind, and the aliens than anyone
else in the book. He has loved ones in England and hates the aliens for what they do to his home, yet
he understands what the aliens are trying to do. First person is a good way to write this kind of book
because the reader knows exactly what a regular Joe would be thinking at a time like this. Another
reason Wells is such a great author.
Other characters are the aliens, who seem to be ugly heads that talk with their minds. The physical
characteristics they possess are far different from humans and they never communicate with the
humans.
The last character worthy of note is the artillery man the main character meets towards the end of the
book. The two seem to agree on the way things will work out, and both would rather live than die
fighting. They play many games together, eat and talk and even spend the night out in the English
countryside together.
Without this man, the book does not exist and there is no story.

Constructivism In International Relations
In international relations, constructivism is regarded to be the starting point of the institutionalization
of values that leads to the development of collaborative behaviors within the international community.
Constructivism is based on the following core principles:
1. states are identified as main actors in the international system;
2. states are conceptualized as socially constructed entities;
3. states pursue different objectives and comply with different principles and norms, which affect and
exert influence on state behavior.

In the recent years nanoscale sensors have become more and more popular. When making a

Tin oxide gas sensors have been manufactured in the form of thin foils in which nanosized grains are
screen printed onto prefabricated electrons, followed by torching at high temperatures. These sensors
can easily detect substances like hydrogen, vapour particles emitted by alcohol, oxygen, and
dangerous gases like carbon monoxide [2 3]. This technology is desirable because it has a large
number of advantages: small dimensions, low production costs, low power consumption, on line
operation and high compatibility with microelectric processing. Moreover the necessity for gas
sensors is very important due to the fact that many kinds of gases are emitted from various sources
into the places where we work, where we live or in the outdoors. Many of these gases are dangerous to
human beings and also to the environment [4]. Furthermore most gases have a very low concentration
therefore sensing devices must be able to detect the presence of this hazardous gases very effectively
and monitor them so that no life threatening problems develop. Therefore this technology has a wide
range of appliation, from industrial applications to household safety.

Poetry of Alfred Lord Tennyson Alfred Lord Tennyson is one of the most famous British writers in
history. Throughout his life, he experienced many hardships while he was writing the poetry he is
famous for. The main subject as well as the message of Alfred Lord Tennyson?s poetry was greatly
inspired by events in his own life.
The poet Alfred Lord Tennyson was born in the town of Somersby in Lincolnshire in 1809 and died in
1892. His early life was not a pleasant one. Some would conclude that ?The early experience was not
for Tennyson a single one, it was a snarled web of family feud, bitterness, genteel poverty,

on the memory of his close friend which Tennyson describes ?But the tender grace of a day that is
dead / Will never come back to me.? 12 The author Christopher Ricks writes about this in a book
about Tennyson stating ??The time is well Lafreniere 5 nigh come when . . .? Those few words

Britain, allied to France by a more loosely worded treaty which placed a moral obligation upon her to

Britain, declared war on Germany on 23 August 1914.
In short, Italy was committed to defend Germany and Austria Hungary only in the event of a defensive
war; arguing that their actions were offensive she declared instead a policy of neutrality.
Gavrilo Princip, Ferdinand s assassin and member of the Black Hand secret societyWhat was intended
as a strictly limited war a brief war between accuser and accused, Austria Hungary and Serbia, rapidly

Berlin (and certainly Vienna, which quickly became alarmed at spiralling events in late July and
sought German reassurances).
Bismarck, first Prime Minister of Prussia and then Chancellor of the German Empire (once he had
assembled it), set about the construction of Germany through high politics judiciously assisted by war
against Austria and France. The resulting war lasted just seven weeks hence its common title The
Seven Weeks War and ended with the complete dominance of the supremely efficient Prussian
military. Bismarck s creation of a unified Germany was of direct relevance to the outbreak of war
some 43 years later, since it resulted in the assembly of the key alliances that later came into play.

In Praise of Folly Erasmus Dichotomy
The Silenus box is a case carved like an ugly Silenus that can be opened to reveal beautiful, precious
objects (Erasmus 43, footnote). This box appears in Erasmus Praise of Folly as a metaphor for the
central claim in the novel, which is that that which appears to be Folly (ugly) externally, is wise
(precious) within. Erasmus reveals this dichotomy on three levels: in the image of the box itself, in his
genuine praise of Folly, and in the structure of the novel as a whole.
Erasmus, using the female voice of Folly, introduces his reader to the image of the Silenus box early
in the text, thereby allowing his reader to carry the image with her for the rest of her time reading (and

To do this, she abruptly inserts the word conversely (43), and continues with a long backward list. Life
will turn out to be death; beauty will become ugliness, and so on, she says (43). In this backwards list,
good outsides cloak bad insides. She then uses this inverted list as a springboard to celebrate wise
appearances (although this is the exact opposite of the central message of the book, which is the
celebration of foolish appearances).
She declares that esteemed members of the community are truly members of her (Folly s) clan, and
that all they have of wisdom is its appearance. Kings and great courtiers... find suitable pretexts within
which they can steal from their citizens and live in luxury so that downright injustice at least has some
appearance of justice (107 8). Popes, cardinals and bishops also behave artificially. They play their
roles with theatrical pomp and ceremonies, but as much as they abide by the superficial demands of

Backdrop Addresses Cowboy Analyses
Backdrop addresses cowboy by Margaret Atwood The male hero could be said to be portrayed in
Atwood s poem Backdrop addresses cowboy by the cowboy. The cowboy is a clichéd symbol of
masculinity made famous by the Western film industry of America. One can immediately conjure him
up, square jawed and handsomely rugged in Stetson and spurred boots, galloping around on his trusty
steed rescuing damsels in distress with whom he intends on riding off romantically into the sunset
with. This is however not the cowboy that we are confronted with in the poem. In the first stanza he is
described as starspangled and porcelain which are both terms for decoration or ornament. That his grin
is porcelain in line 4 shows fixedness, like a doll ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first half of the poem addresses the cowboy which we can tell by the words of address you and
your while the second half while still addressing the cowboy is contemplating the speaker, the
metaphorical backdrop s position in relation to the cowboy. The backdrop could be a metaphor for the
rest of us, the seemingly unimportant ones, the background upon which the cowboy plays his life. The
backdrop is aware of the cowboy s real nature and is calling the cowboy on it. Instead of watching...
when the shooting starts... I am elsewhere (line 24) This could be said to belittle the cowboy, that
instead of hands clasped in admiration at his performance of violence which the cowboy may think
heroic, the I has better things to do. In the title the backdrop is also given a capital while the word
cowboy is not, making him seem inferior when usually a backdrop would be what is unimportant in
comparison to an actor. The I of the poem is also described as something the cowboy wants but cannot
have confronting you on that border you are trying to cross in lines 27 and 28 and the thing you can
never lasso in line 30. This shows that the cowboy is not infallible and once again puts the backdrop in
a superior position to the cowboy. The speaker

The Secret Life Of Bees Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The Secret Life of Bees is about a fourteen year old girl who lost her mother when she was four. Ever
since her mother died, her father T. Ray, short for Terence Ray would abuse her. Rosaleen is the maid.
She acts as a motherly figure toward Lily. Lily, the fourteen year old girl, and Rosaleen, run away to
Tiburon, South Carolina after she finds a picture of her mother with Tiburon on the back. They find a
pink house after they see honey with an exact same picture on it as one that Lily has. They find that
three sisters, May, June, and August Boatwright live there. As they stay there, they feel more and more
like they belong there. The movie has added and taken away some parts and scenes in the book, but
also, there are some similarities.
Similarities:
Between the book and the movie, there are some similarities. For instance, when Lily goes out to the
orchard and finds some of her mother s things. Also when T. Ray puts out grits and Lily kneels on
them. Then there is when Rosaleen gives Lily a birthday cake. Also when Lily and Rosaleen run away,
they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I enjoyed the book more than the movie because it gave more time and detail into the story. The movie
felt like it moved really fast, forgetting many of the important parts that were shown in the book. The
book flowed nicely, giving the reader a chance to feel like they are in the story, but the movie didn t
give me a chance to understand these characters. I feel like if I watched the movie first, I would not
understand the characters and their emotions as much as when I read the book first. Finally, I would
have included the daughters of Mary and Mary Day more in the movie. Without it, it would be harder
for the watcher to understand what the purpose of them is. All in all, I enjoyed the book much more
than the movie due to its amount of detail and spacing of

Comcast Packet Forgery
Comcast Packet Forgery case in 2007 explains how network neutrality received public visibility. In
May 2007, Comcast installed a new software/tool on its networks which conveniently and selectively
interfered with some of Comcast customers TCP/IP connections. A Comcast subscriber Robb Topolski
ran a tool called a packet sniffer which was used to seed files on BitTorrent and discovered that
unexpected TCP RST packets were causing inbound connections to his computer to die. Based on his
observations, he speculated that Comcast may have been responsible for this interference. Computers
use TCP as a standard protocol to exchange information on the Internet. When a computer receives
TCP packets which it believes it should not have received or when it thinks it has closed a connection
but keeps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many cases, the surge of forged RST packets will cause software to fail in its attempts to do
something a user asks of it. For instance, a BitTorrent client elsewhere on the Internet may fail in
downloading a rare document that is available as a BitTorrent seed from a Comcast user. In the case of
a typical Gnutella node, RST forgery will destroy the node s ability to discover and establish proper
communications with other parts of the Gnutella network. Gnutella connections are generally started
in either direction: Comcast user connects outwards, or other Gnutella nodes connect inwards. In both
of these examples, Comcast s packet forgery prevents the transfer of data rather than delaying it.
Hence, the characterization of Comcast s packet forgery as delaying certain traffic is only true under
special conditions, and is definitely not true in general. According to the white paper two conditions
that maybe considered

  • 2. The Negative Effects Of Homework Have you ever been overly stressed or stayed up all night because of homework? Well according to Dr. Craig Canapari, sleep deprivation and severe stress in students is caused by early school start times and heavy homework amounts. This not only affects teenagers, but it is also an issue for younger children. 90% of teenagers are sleep deprived, which can have various consequences pertaining to their health, safety and overall well being. About 15% of teenage students have over 2 hours of homework per night, some even having 3, 4 or even 5 HOURS OF HOMEWORK! I recently sent out a survey to my classmates and I discovered that 36.8% of my classmates were spending an hours to an hour and a half on homework. I also found out that 31.6% of them were spending 2 hours or more on their homework, which is more than the recommended amount for children our age. Some may think this is helpful to their academic career, but it can actually be very detrimental. In fact, students can stay up doing homework for so long that they become sleep deprived and when you are sleep deprived, it becomes very challenging to retain information. So really, when students are doing hours of homework and aren t retaining any information because of sleep deprivation, every single benefit that a homework assignment may have to offer is lost! Many people believe that homework is helpful, not harmful, but this is a lie. In fact, there is not much evidence to suggest that homework for students below high school ... Mobile Phones Is The Identity Of A User Essay EXISTING PRODUCT Since the origin of Mobile phones, the only thing that has not developed much in mobile phones is the SIM card i.e. Subscriber Identity Module Card. It is a device which has user identity, network authorization data, personal security keys, contact lists and text messages. Functionality of the SIM card: Identification of a User: The International Mobile Subscriber Identity programmed on the SIM card, is the identity of a user, which is linked to a mobile number. Authentication of a User: A unique response is provided by each user based on International Mobile Subscriber Identity. • 4. Disadvantages Of Phonology INTRODUCTION In India the current scenario is changing very fast, it is absolutely critical that every child has the fullest opportunities to become an accomplished reader. It is important that every member of society should able to read and write. Without these skills, a person will have to face enormous social, personal, and economic limitations in today s complex and information flooded world. In the current situation, demands for accurate reading writing skills are greater now than at any previous time in history. Phonology, broadly speaking, is that sub discipline within linguistics concerned with the sounds of language . More narrowly , phonology proper is concerned with the function, behaviour and organisation of sounds as linguistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process of reading development has different levels of phonological awareness within words: syllables, onsets and rimes, and sounds. Good readers look for familiar letter patterns as one strategy when attempting to decode or spell unfamiliar words they use familiar sound chunks from known words, not just individual sounds (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981). Thomas Gunning 1974 reported that students look for pronounceable word parts .This chunking / grouping of sounds makes the reading and writing process much more effective and efficient. This letter pattern learning is based on familiar syllable or rhyme patterns as well as sound clusters and individual sounds. This ability helps child to find out inside words for syllables, rhymes, and individual sounds. Child has to segment, blend, and manipulate syllables, onset and rime, and sounds of a particular word; this ability makes the child successful in using letter sound knowledge effectively for reading and writing (Bradley, Bryant, 1983; Lenel Cantor, 1981; Maclean, Bryant, Bradley, 1987). The phonological awareness skills of segmenting and blending are the most highly correlated with beginning reading acquisition (Snow 192). Students who may be at risk for reading difficulty often have poorer levels of phonological awareness than others (Stanovitch Cunningham, Cramer, 1984). Although related, phonemic awareness is different from auditory discrimination, phonetics, and phonics. The young child has the ability to notice, mentally grab hold of, and manipulate different sound smallest chunks of speech (Hodges Harris, 1995; Tunmer, Herriman, Nesdale, 1988; Yaden Templeton, ... • 6. Theme Of Stigma In Tennessee Williams Tennessee Williams (1911 1983) is one of the most highly known American dramatists of the twentieth century. He has depicted several protagonists who are discriminated against and deals with the issues of stigma. What is stigma? According to Cambridge Dictionary, stigma is when people disapprove of something, especially when this is unfair, and to treat someone or something unfairly by disapproving of them. In the plays of Tennessee Williams the members of stigmatized groups violate the norms established by the dominant group and, as such, are marked by the resulting social stigma. These members of stigmatized groups may be called the marked and the ones who stigmatize, may be referred to as the markers. Marked individuals are diminished, blemished, or imperfect in the eyes of others with far reaching results which dehumanizes them. Stigmatized characters by Williams differ from the privileged characters he created in terms of appearance as well as behavior. In The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Summer and Smoke and Suddenly Last Summer Williams characters are discriminated against and easily identifiable as the Marked. Williams sketches characters after characters with facial disfigurement that do not meet this standard and are likely to be stigmatized. • 8. The Characters Of Education In Atticus Finch And Bob Ewell During the Great Depression in the 1930 s over twelve million people were unemployed causing people to become poor and homeless. The Great Depression affected those who had education and worsened the living conditions for those who were less educated. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee compares two completely different people, Atticus Finch and Bob Ewell to display how education affected different social castes in society. In the 1930 s the Great Depression came along as a tragic era making education forgotten as America faced other issues. At this time, Atticus, a white man and a father of two kids strives to portray an example of how important education is in a time of struggle. On the other hand the character Bob Ewell is, a white man, is poor and extremely ignorant to the value education and believes it has no effect on society. Atticus and Bob are men of different beliefs and values. [Through the characterization of Atticus Finch and Bob Ewell the readers can believe compassion is reached through education, which a man with compassion and education for their community can lead to humanity.] Atticus is a well educated man as he demonstrates outstanding habits through his actions. By this time the contaminated tailings and toxins released from the smelters and chemical treatment facilities had reached an outrageous numbers. With the help of the great flood of 1908 these pollutants covered the Silver Bow creek banks from Butte all the way to the Milltown Dam. In 1911 the Anaconda Company began extensive cleanup efforts by implementing the use of warm springs ponds as a water treatment facility (Citizens Technical Environmental Committee, 4). These ponds were developed initially with the thought that they would be able to catch polluted tailings before they were able to reach the Clark Fork River. There was an estimated 2,400 acres of warm springs ponds built between the years of 1911 and 1959 (Citizens Technical Environmental Committee, 4). The settling ponds were created to hold the mining wastes, acting as a dam so that the metals did not end up in the Clark Fork River. The tailings are then covered over with lime to prevent them from leeching back into the environment. This series of warm springs ponds provides treatment to the water in such a way that the environment can cleanse the water of pollutants on its own instead. This treatment method is accomplished with the water being further cleansed as it is transferred from pond to pond. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then it brings jobs and homes... Then it elevates the standards of living and adds to the comforts of life. That is the engineer s high privilege. The shelving in the library is a good representation of horizontal lines. It stands out in the space and makes it look as if the space is full. I think the shelving is a point on emphasis in the library, it also makes the viewers eyes move along the space. Sleep Apnea is a growing disorder affecting children and adults without discrimination to age, gender, race or sex. There are three main categories of apnea: central, obstructive, and mixed. Although there are many forms of sleeping disorders Central Sleep Apnea(CSA) is classified to be a less common sleeping disorder characterized by life threating health conditions not limited to death if not diagnosed in a timely fashion and treated to prevent or reduce the symptoms that cause the apnea threshold Pac02 levels to increase or decrease with cessation of airflow during sleep. Central sleep apnea can increase the risk stroke, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure. Only ten to fifteen percent people with sleep disordered breathing are classified as having Central Sleep Apnea. Common sign and symptoms of Central Sleep Apnea include trouble staying awake, shortness of breath, abnormal breathing patterns during sleep, and sudden awakenings coupled with shortness of breath. Central Sleep Apnea occurs when there is a decline in respiratory effort and as a result of inadequate medullary responsiveness or poor muscle coordination for breathing. Central sleep apnea can be split into more than one main category depending on the underlying conditions that contribute to the specific disorder. Dogs were used by Egyptians, Persians, Slavs, Romans and Greeks. The Molossus dog was thought to be the most powerful dog by the Romans and underwent intense training for war. In many areas, insanity has been a criminal defense with a significant history. However, in the early part of this century, adult protections, including the competency requirement and common defenses like insanity, were not added into the juvenile court system. Because juvenile courts were established to protect juveniles from the rigors of adult court and punishments in adult facilities, states focused on achieving proceedings more compatible with juveniles needs. Also, it is around this age when youths think of a right as belonging to them, and that they can waive it or use it. The big question is their ability to deal with abstract legal concepts that are grasped by most adults. Even at ages 14 to 16, only ¼ of youths described a right as an entitlement. For example, when a police officer says to an arrested juvenile, you have the right to remain silent, groups of youths described it as, you can be silent unless you are told to talk, or you have to be quiet unless you are spoken to. Age by itself is a bad indicator of whether youths have reached an adult level of knowledge of the legal process. Juveniles have various types of thinking and emotional disabilities; thus, it takes them longer to reach their adult like potential. Also, many courts and many people believe that youths that have been repeatedly arrested and exposed to court trials have a better understanding of legal matters. Current research does not support this. Some juveniles will definitely learn from these experiences and may even become advanced in the understanding of the trial process; others will learn nothing at all. This represents the life women have of being perceived as small, objects, and as pointless. But as the time has gone by, women have proved to be a fierce as the Presidents of the United States. When it comes to looking at women and how they have been interpreted, the one question I have has to be why Shakespeare was against the female gander. After having the guest speaker that was a Temple student really bothered me and I thought about it for days. This is bothering me the most because I am a Temple student, this happened in her own room, no one helped her, and her rapist is still out there. • 29. Latino Gender And Gender Diversity In 2013, Latinos accounted for only 4.9% of the roles in the top 100 films of the year. From the beginning, Hollywood had always been dominated by white men and women. However, as time progressed there was a very slight change in cultural and ethnic diversity. Though it is more likely now than ever to find a Latino or Latina in a Hollywood film, their roles are often small, stereotypical, and almost entirely unimportant. As if it wasn t hard enough to get any role in any Hollywood film regardless of ethnicity, Latinos have to endure playing a harshly demeaning role. Latino men are often cast as comedic relief and play gardeners, janitors, or thugs. Latino women are often cast as maids or mistresses. Aside from this, when women are cast as mistresses they are often submissive to their white male partners, meaning that not only are these roles ethnically demeaning, but also sexist. Along with Latino female sexualisation, though, Latino men are also heavily sexualized. Both Latino women and men have to deal with the exploitation of their culture for stereotypical roles in a movie. However, these are only some of the vicious patterns that attribute to the everlasting ethnic misrepresentation in the biggest part of mass media, Hollywood. Latinos are some of the main consumers of pretty much any media. He does have his moments of running away screaming and hiding, but he learns more about himself, mankind, and the aliens than anyone else in the book. He has loved ones in England and hates the aliens for what they do to his home, yet he understands what the aliens are trying to do. First person is a good way to write this kind of book because the reader knows exactly what a regular Joe would be thinking at a time like this. Another reason Wells is such a great author. Other characters are the aliens, who seem to be ugly heads that talk with their minds. The physical characteristics they possess are far different from humans and they never communicate with the humans. The last character worthy of note is the artillery man the main character meets towards the end of the book. This technology is desirable because it has a large number of advantages: small dimensions, low production costs, low power consumption, on line operation and high compatibility with microelectric processing. Moreover the necessity for gas sensors is very important due to the fact that many kinds of gases are emitted from various sources into the places where we work, where we live or in the outdoors. Many of these gases are dangerous to human beings and also to the environment [4]. Erasmus, using the female voice of Folly, introduces his reader to the image of the Silenus box early in the text, thereby allowing his reader to carry the image with her for the rest of her time reading (and ... Folly, being folly, goes on from her initial description of the box to give the majority of her list backwards (although she begins correctly), claiming that if the list goes in one direction, it must, of course, go in the opposite direction as well (she s a woman you can t expect her to be reasonable (28)). To do this, she abruptly inserts the word conversely (43), and continues with a long backward list. Life will turn out to be death; beauty will become ugliness, and so on, she says (43). In this backwards list, good outsides cloak bad insides. She then uses this inverted list as a springboard to celebrate wise appearances (although this is the exact opposite of the central message of the book, which is the celebration of foolish appearances). She declares that esteemed members of the community are truly members of her (Folly s) clan, and that all they have of wisdom is its appearance. Kings and great courtiers... find suitable pretexts within which they can steal from their citizens and live in luxury so that downright injustice at least has some appearance of justice (107 8). Popes, cardinals and bishops also behave artificially. They play their roles with theatrical pomp and ceremonies, but as much as they abide by the superficial demands of their positions, ... • 42. Backdrop Addresses Cowboy Analyses Backdrop addresses cowboy by Margaret Atwood The male hero could be said to be portrayed in Atwood s poem Backdrop addresses cowboy by the cowboy. The cowboy is a clichéd symbol of masculinity made famous by the Western film industry of America. One can immediately conjure him up, square jawed and handsomely rugged in Stetson and spurred boots, galloping around on his trusty steed rescuing damsels in distress with whom he intends on riding off romantically into the sunset with. This is however not the cowboy that we are confronted with in the poem. In the first stanza he is described as starspangled and porcelain which are both terms for decoration or ornament. That his grin is porcelain in line 4 shows fixedness, like a doll ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first half of the poem addresses the cowboy which we can tell by the words of address you and your while the second half while still addressing the cowboy is contemplating the speaker, the metaphorical backdrop s position in relation to the cowboy. The backdrop could be a metaphor for the rest of us, the seemingly unimportant ones, the background upon which the cowboy plays his life. The backdrop is aware of the cowboy s real nature and is calling the cowboy on it. Instead of watching... when the shooting starts... I am elsewhere (line 24) This could be said to belittle the cowboy, that instead of hands clasped in admiration at his performance of violence which the cowboy may think heroic, the I has better things to do. In the title the backdrop is also given a capital while the word cowboy is not, making him seem inferior when usually a backdrop would be what is unimportant in comparison to an actor. The I of the poem is also described as something the cowboy wants but cannot have confronting you on that border you are trying to cross in lines 27 and 28 and the thing you can never lasso in line 30. This shows that the cowboy is not infallible and once again puts the backdrop in a superior position to the cowboy. The speaker ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie felt like it moved really fast, forgetting many of the important parts that were shown in the book. The book flowed nicely, giving the reader a chance to feel like they are in the story, but the movie didn t give me a chance to understand these characters. I feel like if I watched the movie first, I would not understand the characters and their emotions as much as when I read the book first. Finally, I would have included the daughters of Mary and Mary Day more in the movie. Without it, it would be harder for the watcher to understand what the purpose of them is. • 46. Comcast Packet Forgery Comcast Packet Forgery case in 2007 explains how network neutrality received public visibility. In May 2007, Comcast installed a new software/tool on its networks which conveniently and selectively interfered with some of Comcast customers TCP/IP connections. A Comcast subscriber Robb Topolski ran a tool called a packet sniffer which was used to seed files on BitTorrent and discovered that unexpected TCP RST packets were causing inbound connections to his computer to die. Based on his observations, he speculated that Comcast may have been responsible for this interference. Computers use TCP as a standard protocol to exchange information on the Internet. When a computer receives TCP packets which it believes it should not have received or when it thinks it has closed a connection but keeps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many cases, the surge of forged RST packets will cause software to fail in its attempts to do something a user asks of it. For instance, a BitTorrent client elsewhere on the Internet may fail in downloading a rare document that is available as a BitTorrent seed from a Comcast user. In the case of a typical Gnutella node, RST forgery will destroy the node s ability to discover and establish proper communications with other parts of the Gnutella network. Gnutella connections are generally started in either direction: Comcast user connects outwards, or other Gnutella nodes connect inwards. In both of these examples, Comcast s packet forgery prevents the transfer of data rather than delaying it. Hence, the characterization of Comcast s packet forgery as delaying certain traffic is only true under special conditions, and is definitely not true in general. According to the white paper two conditions that maybe considered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
